Ellen DeGeneres to Host the Oscars
Ellen DeGeneres will host this year’s Oscars. “It’s official: I’m hosting the #Oscars! I’d like to thank @TheAcademy, my wife Portia and, oh dear, there goes the orchestra,” she tweeted today. The Academy is “thrilled,” with the choice, producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron said in a statement. DeGeneres, 55, last hosted the Oscars in 2007, becoming the first openly gay person to do so.

Caught on Tape: Bear Steals Dumpster
Watch out for bears in Colorado Springs! A bear hungry for a snack was caught on camera dragging a restaurant’s dumpster away from its usual spot. The restaurant owner said their Dumpsters weigh about a half a ton each.

Piece of Jesus’ Cross Found in Turkey, Archaeologists Say
Archaeologists in Turkey say they found a piece of the cross used to crucify Jesus while digging in the country this week, Turkey’s Hurriyet Daily News reports. While digging at the Balatlar Church in the Black Sea province, they found a chest containing several relics believed to have been part of the crucifixion. “This stone chest is very important to us. It has a history and is the most important artifact we have unearthed so far,” head of the excavations, Professor Gülgün Köroğlu, told the Daily News.
