Rare Blue Diamond Found in South Africa Mining company Petra Diamonds found a rare 29.6-carat blue diamond in South Africa in the Cullinan mine, near Pretoria, the nation's capital. In a statement, Jan. 21, 2014, Petra said it's a vivid blue with "extraordinary" tone and clarity.
