A Message From Bob

Bob’s colleagues received the following message from him today: I am moving on to outpatient treatment and I can’t tell you what a blessing it is. Though I know there is still a long road ahead, it’s nice to be feeling more like myself again – laughing with family, reading bedtime stories and reminding my kids to do their homework. I don’t know how I’m ever going to thank everyone for all they have done for me – the military doctors who saved my life and all the doctors and nurses who have treated me; my wife and children, my family and my dear friends who have committed themselves to helping me in my recovery. And all of you, for your seemingly endless support and the love you’ve shown my family. I have been moved beyond words by the letters, the cards and the genuine good wishes I have received from our viewers. They are a source of strength and a constant reminder of why I am putting all my effort toward getting back to work with you. For now; I am a loyal viewer – proud to watch all of you do what you do best. Elizabeth Vargas updated viewers on last night’s broadcast. Thank God for the great photo and coegent message that indicate Mr. Woodruff’s ongoing recovery from his war injury. I happen to support the president as far as the war is concerned but whether any of us support or oppose it, we are all Americans and can applaud the recovery of a fine man who put himself in harm’s way rather than sit in a chair in New York. Our prayers continue for a complete recovery and return to the news program.

Thank you so much for updating us not only with words, but with pictures of how you are doing. We have missed you very much, and personally, I was thinking the worst. Now that I have seen your remarkable recovery and how you continue to strive to make it back to the newsdesk (We hope!), I have renewed hope for your recovery. While I don’t support the President, I FULLY support and love the troops and the brave news correspondents who risk their lives to make America proud. Thank you ABC for updating us. Hurry Back Bob!

Dear Mr. Woodruff: You look wonderful!!! I was thrilled to see your pictures and see that you are doing so well. I have been praying for you and your family. And, I’m certain that being home with your family is the best place for a full recovery. I’m grateful to our troops who fight for us everyday and for our news correspondents who put their lives in danger to bring us those stories. I wish you continued progress in your recovery and can’t wait to see you sitting next to Elizabeth Vargas again!

Hi,
When I told a doctor friend of mine about Bob Woodruff’s injury, my friend told me that Bob woulnd’t be back on the news. Instead, we’d all see him five or so years from now somehow quite changed. Now that this isn’t the case, my hope is that Mr. Woodruff will continue to feel compelled, as he did in Iraq, to report what’s really going on in the world.

Dear Mr. Woodruff: It is good to hear that you are making strong progress in your recovery. Elizabeth and your approach to bring the important news to us from the places where the news is happening is essential in a free society. I hope when you are ready to run to your desk that you and ABC news will continue to flow the news as you had began to do.
Your profession is a honorable and important one and not without risks. I hope and pray that when you are ready to resume your work that you will be able to tell the story of your personal travil but also that of our fellow Americans wounded in war throughout the ages and how they are doing.

Tell Bob Woodruff that I dont care if he has a third eye and has to speak through one of those electronic voiceboxes, I want him back on the air ASAP, okay?
Anybody tough enough to go into the middle of a war, take a bomb blast and come back is an inspiration to everyone who has lost someone or who has an injured loved one from the war.
Goooooo Bob!

Mr. Woodruff,
It amazing how one can get caught up in the life of someone that I do not know personaly.
I pray for the best for you and your family.
Take your time. Enjoy your family. I don’t know if you are a man of faith or not. If you are continue to put your faith in God.
I will look forward to seeing you again on the news.

Bob, you are looking great! The silence surrounding your condition created an uneasiness concerning your recovery. It’s great to see your smile. May God continue to work a miracle in your life.

I find it interesting that now after you had an injury in a warzone maybe the coverage will change a little bit.
The peace-nik presentation by Walt Disney (ABC) is almost if not worse than CNN’s converage.
Realism is one thing, toning it down is something else. I notice the coverage of the tornado damage is just as interesting as the coverage of Shock and Awe on Fox News.

Bob, It is such a relief to see your photos. As we are watching you and your co-workers each night you become almost a part of the family. I was very distressed for the injuries to you and Doug. Best wishes for a fast and speedy recovery. Good luck with the kid’s homework, I know that is not a battle easily won.

Dear Bob, Lee and family: You have been in our hearts and prayers ever since we heard of your near-tragic accident in Iraq. To see your photos and read your words of hope was truly an answer to prayer for us. We do not support Mr. Bush, but we do support all men and women who put themselves in harm’s way every day in Iraq. Thank you for the very fine journalism and reporting you and Elizabeth have done, particularly after the very sad loss of your friend and colleague Peter Jennings. We hope to see you back soon. Hi Bob,
It was so good to see those wonderful pictures of you, with your wonderful smile and big eyes. Now that you are back home with your lovely wife Lee and the kids that is the best treatment you can have for a speedy recovery.
Can’t wait to see you back on air again, maybe when Elizabeth takes her maternity leave you will be ready to go on air and beat Katie in the ratings—because we know you will. Just get well, and the rest will fall in line. Elizabeth has done a great job, but we want to see the both of you back.

Thanks to modern science, Bob is doing well and recovering nicely. Since I am not a religious person, instead of “praying”, I will instead donate to charities that help further medical science. I would encourage other readers to do the same. Continue to get well, Bob!

Hope you return before Elizabeth goes on maternity leave.

Your courage to report the news as it truly happened is surpassed by your ongoing courage to not just survive, but return to your place at
ABC. Two Oregon septuagenarians still watch ABC every night with eager anticipation for your return. God Bless you and heal you. Dr. and Mrs. Robert G. Kaufman

Dear Bob,
I sustained a severe TBI while studing in France in 1990. I became a Theta Chi at N.S.U. in Natchitoches, Louisiana in 1992. While a still suffered from my head injury, I graduated college with a BA in History & a Historic Peservation minor. Although I could not do a lot of things well, I focus on things that I could excell in. I was good at lending a helping hand” as our brothehood taught us! If I could do anything for you brother, please let me know. Good luck to you with your recovery and the future you have with your family, friends and with your God above.
My heart goes out to you while I do my work for our country @ the Springfield Armory National Historic Site, in Springfield, Massachusetts. May you find peace in your healing, remember, it is the small things that really matter in this life, and I love all of my brothers. David

Dear Bob, I grew up in Bloomfield Hills, right across the street from Vaughn School. I went to Brookside School. From the time I first heard about you I’ve felt that little connection. We are all praying and hoping for your recovery most complete recovery. We continue to send supportive thoughts to you and yours, Susan

Dear Lee, (sorry for the familiarity)
My son-in-law has pretty severe brain injury due to complications after being in Iraq for 15 months in 2003-04. Going through this whole experience with my daughter–Landstuhl, Walter Reed, P.Alto. TBA Center…has been amazing in a Twilight-Zonish way, as you well know. I wrote you a letter months ago, but had no idea how to get it to you. Can you email me to give me an address to which I could send it? I know that the few times my daughter was able to talk with other wives in her place, it was very helpful, but those have been few and far between. Even now, two years later, during the rehab. phase, she has only commiserated with very few wives. Perhaps you might find this a good contact for you. I sincerely hope you and your husband are doing well, and that Thanksgiving, soon coming up, is wonderful for you. –bgb
