Journalism at Its Worst

A report by the Center for Media and Democracy found that 69 TV stations across the country were passing off corporate and government video news releases as actual news reports.

The stations, including some in New York and LA, never disclosed the source of the material to viewers.

"I think it’s atrocious journalism for a news outlet to run wholesale something that was produced outside the news outlet by a private corporation with their own private agenda," says Jonathan Adelstein, a Commissioner at the Federal Communications Commission.

Although it is mostly a question of some news stations being cheap, it brings discredit to all of broadcast news.

There is nothing automatically wrong with this practice – if it was not deceptive, but just added as a visual enhancement.
It should be judged on a case by Case basis – and accessing the effect each video had on the journalism piece
