Not So ‘Happily Ever After’
‘Eternal bliss’ ended today for 30 people arrested in a million dollar marriage-for-hire scam.
This morning agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) made over twenty arrests in four states in what DHS officials are calling a sophisticated marriage-for-hire ring. Sham marriages and false documents were forged for a price between $8,000 and $16,000 to make it look as if immigrants were already married to Americans. Immigrants would be one step closer to getting green cards and other benefits. Officials say as many as 1,000 people participated in the ring, which netted more than a million dollars in illegal prceeds. Among those charged in an indictment unsealed in federal court today is a former U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service employee, alleged ringleader Phillip Browne of Brooklyn and Florida. Browne, who is now in custody, allegedly approved green card applications for illegal immigrants. The charges include visa fraud and money laundering. According to a Department of Homeland Security official, this is the first major case for the agency’s "Document and Benefit Task Force" which was created in April to combat document and benefit fraud. The task force reaches across the country with offices in Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Los Angeles New York Newark, Philadelphia and St. Paul.

ICE actually arrested someone? I’m amazed. Too bad the main-stream media is so close to the Bush administration because many conservatives are really enraged at the situation with ICE being so under-staffed and seemingly ineffective. Also in the case of the US Border Patrol they desperately need more detention facilities. Back in the old days the media use to cover that type of thing. Meanwhile the Minutemen “vigilantes”, as liberals call them, stopped 27 Iraqi illegal aliens from entering the US at the southern border the other day. Of course under “catch and release” most will soon be going free – in the US.

marriage fraud can be stopped tomorrow. how? by denying benefits-the ability to remain in the country-to anyone. make the spouse return to their home country and apply there, it will stop bogus marriages overnight

Pffffft … the concept of forging the documents is totally stupid, and shows limited criminal intelect. It’d have much more clever to charge the people, but have them get legally married.

That catch and release is a terrible thing they’re doing. It also bothers me that Congress couldn’t even agree to fund tighter border security while they debate what to do with the 12 million illegals here already. Just shows that much of our leadership doesn’t really have our best interests at heart.
