White Power Leader Indicted by U.S.
The leader of one of the world’s largest and most active neo-Nazi/white supremacist organizations, the National Alliance, has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Utah. Shaun Walker, the chairman of the National Alliance, and two other members of the group were charged with conspiring to interfere with the civil rights of two minority men in Salt Lake City in 2002 and 2003. According to the FBI, the National Alliance, headquartered in West Virginia, has an established record of robberies, murders and bombings. Last year in an interview with ABC News at the National Alliance compound, Walker said, "We stand for white people, it’s pretty simple." The indictment alleges that Walker and others sought to provoke fights and arguments in public places to make minorities "afraid to appear in public, work and live in and around Salt Lake City." Also charged with Walker were Travis Massey, 29, the group’s Utah spokesman, and Eric Egbert, 21, of Salt Lake City. Federal marshals will transport Walker from West Virginia to Salt Lake City where he will be arraigned. No one at the National Alliance compound could be reached for comment. The Anti-Defamation League applauded the indictments. "The arrests send a powerful message to the racists and bigots who believe they can get away with targeting minorities," said Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director. Read the Indictment for Shaun Walker, Travis Massey and Eric Egbert.

It’s about time this hate monger gets behind bars. Although claiming to be an “American” this is the most un-American attitude a person could have. My hat is off to Utah.

Just curious….when will the mayor of New Orleans be indicted for attempting to intimidate whites who wish to move there and upset the status quo in his ‘chocolate’ (his word) city? Oh, that’s right… NEVER! Double standards make me sick.

I wonder what part of “We the people…” Shaun Walker does not understand? I also wonder what race issues Shaun Walker will take with him when he gets to Heaven’s gate and finds that Saint Peter is NOT caucasian! What is Walker thinking when he preaches hatred and violence, when he should be preaching about love, forgivness and appreciation of each other’s differences? God made us each different in order to learn from (and respect) one another.

It never ceases to amaze me that there are still people out there with such hateful attitudes. I truly don’t think there is anything wrong with being proud of your heritage but taking it to the point that you feel the need to harass and try to intimidate other humans for their heritage is totally unacceptable. GROW UP!!!

Thank you for getting one more idiot off the streets. And to think this country is a big melting pot and idiots like that want to cause more confusion. For all we know, they might not even be fully white, Utah is home to a lot of indians! What idiots. This country needs unity, not seperation!

>>The indictment alleges that Walker and others sought to provoke fights and arguments in public places
So this is all it takes: “provoking fights and arguments in public” to bring the full weight of the federal government down upon your head, with the posssibility of spending 20 years behind bars. Where has our liberty gone?
Posted by: Ausus | June 13, 2006, 2:14 pm 2:14 pm
Pretty selective “hate crimes” indictment. And the extradition is a bit over the top.
Meanwhile for others it’s still simply free speech to harrass pregnant woman in front of Planned Parent clinics, grafitti the property of Arab-American store owners with messages of hate, bash gays, descecrate churhes and Mosques…
Running this guy through the wringer is fine…but let’s enforce the same laws with the same enthusiasm for all people who (as the indictment stands,) “provoke fights and arguments in public places to make minorities afraid to appear in public, work and live…” anywhere.
It happens all the time, everywhere.
Why so much particular attention to this one faction?
Why hardly any at all in the countless others, until someone gets beaten or shot?
This place gets more curious all the time.

Why are some people so hung up on the color of someone’s skin?? We are all the same – equal and should be treated that way by all. There is absolutely no tolerance for anyone acting or thinking any way other than that.

It’s amazing to see that such hate still exist today in America. But keep in mind this hate exist not only within whites but a WIDE variety of minority groups too. Education on equality and equal understanding of human rights is what is missing within all of these hate groups. Maybe the closer we get to more of a mixed culture, then the less will see of such obvious hate within our country and throughout the world… The internet has helped us move towards a more united organization, but we still have a long way to go. I hope years of taught hate can thin out to educated rights for all who call themselves civilized humans.

I wish everyone could be black or asian or gay or some minority for a month or so and let me know if you think racism is dead.

To the ‘Nikki P’ posting, I recall that the Mayor of New Orleans apologized for his choice of words and also explained that he meant ‘chocolate’ as a mixture of all races.
I’m in support of making sure all races have equal rights. However, sometimes things can taken out of context and misinterpreted.

It’s amazing how hard people will look for differences between themselves and others! I mean, why skin color as the big differentiator? Why not height, straight teeth vs. crooked, or foot size? These folks are ignorant. I’m glad they got one off the streets for now. Just FYI to those who peddle hate: Genetically speaking, all human DNA is 99.999997% the same. We are so close it is almost imperceptable on broad cellular level. That small percentage difference means we have some variety in shapes, size and color of person. No inbreeding ;-) You’d think we’d be glad we’re not all the same!

To Courtney:
So let me get this straight– you think that the only thing contained within the indictment is “afraid to appear in public, work and live in and around Salt Lake City.” Maybe thesmokinggun.com can obtain the ENTIRE contents of the indictment to put your mind at ease. In the meantime lets just stick w/ this article because the part where it said, “according to the FBI, the National Alliance, headquartered in West Virginia, has an established record of robberies, murders and bombings.” must have slipped past you. Shaun Walker is the “leader”, which means the leader must be held accountable. You know sort of like Kenneth Lay & Enron?! Although an indictment was absolutely necessary, I personally am not excited about the indictment because an indictment doesn’t necessarily translate into prison for a very, very long time (to be continued . . .) And besides, I’m sure the “devilish looking” Shaun Walker has been personally grooming someone to take over his “evil throne” (you know like abu al-zaqwari). So, unless the ENTIRE organization is dismantled & either deprogrammed or imprisoned on a deserted island, what good does it do?
Posted by: K | June 13, 2006, 8:24 pm 8:24 pm
John – If a white person says something inappropriate,it’s called racist. If a black person says something inappropriate, why do you say it’s “..taken out of context and misinterpreted.”? So, basically your saying double standards are OK. No, double standards are not OK. Racist is racist, doesn’t mater who says it, what the context is, or how the person tries to explain it away later.

The first people here in this country were the Native Americans. Yet, we all come from around the globe. That’s what makes this country great. We are from the same human race. I can’t understand why the color of your skin makes one any different.

Now say it with me everyone. . .
Americans are from America, Africans are from Africa, Europeans are from Europe, Mexicans are from Mexico, Chinese are from China etc. Good Job!
Now, black & white is the color of crayons & other objects– okay!
Everyone in America except for, Native (originating in a particular place or in the vicinity) Indians migrated (minus those brought against their will) here. America is not owned by any particular group of people, therefore if there is something that an African, European, Mexican, Chinese etc. doesn’t like about someone else who was born or lives in America, feel free to return to your ancestral land because last I checked those countries are still on the map.
Class dismissed!!

For all you folks who are calling: “hey, no fair, black people say blah blah blah and no one cares, but when white people form an armed paramilitary whose organizing principle is that they are fundamentally superior to some other people everyone cries foul….” – you are sad, adolescent dummies. Stick to Rush and Ann, and the company of other people who suffer your affliction, and stop pretending that you deserve a voice in public at all – you gave up that right when you gave up on learning and understanding things, rather than having knee-jerk, hysterical, emotional reactions to whatever comes your way, like children ages 4-9 often do. Shut up until you’ve grown up. I agree with some conservatives in that children should be seen and not heard much of the time.
Posted by: tom | June 13, 2006, 10:18 pm 10:18 pm
Concerning ‘Chocolate City’–It was a term used in a lot of funk songs in the 70′s to describe a place where Black people enjoyed living. It’s been used to describe D.C., L.A., and more recently Atlanta. It wasn’t a comment intended to “scare” Whites away. It was intended to bring Blacks back who lost everything and are “scared” of returning. New Orleans has a rich history (for all racial backgrounds) and had a lot of music/art festivals, cultural events and traditions that Black people enjoyed. Nagin was just saying that those activities would return. Nevertheless, it was a poor choice of words because people who had never heard of “Chocolate City” assumed it was based on the removal of and discrimination towards White people. That would be Black supremacy and just as wrong as the practices of White Power groups.
Posted by: LO | June 13, 2006, 10:26 pm 10:26 pm
I agree. What Nagin said was mess up and rediculous. But let’s see. #1 He apologized for his actions. and #2 We do have freedom of speech. And just because we have that freedom of speech, doesn’t mean a particular group should go around harrassing minorities and still strive for supremecy.
What year is it again? 2006 oh ok. It is very sad to see bigots, racists, and ignorance still floating around today.

I am continually amazed at how stupid most Americans are. The atrocious spelling and grammar in this country is beyond my comprehension.
Yet, these are the same people who rise up against bigotry and racism. First learn how to communicate in an effective, intelligent manner. I cannot take seriously the comments of anyone who cannot speak proper English or use proper grammar.
There is no doubt that Mr. Walker is the misguided product of a racist culture, but if you are going to engage in a debate, learn to use the power of the written word to your advantage… not to Mr. Walker’s!

These guys are losers. Their achievement is falling behind people of color and they are worried. If they were so superior, they would have got ahead of other people in a land of equal opportunities without having to declare themselves superior.
These are very dangerous people that can break apart the harmony and social fabric of our society. I think they should go to jail until they are rehabilitated.

Racism refers to various belief systems maintaining that humans can be separated into various groups based on physical attributes and that these groupings determine or influence cultural or individual achievement or the essential value of human beings. The persons, organizations, and factions that still exist today should be dissembled immediately.

Kudos to Utah, but let’s get to the core issue here. These people are NOT patriots. They are TERRORISTS. No different than the PLO, the IRA, Al Queda, Hamas, Red Brigades, or the Earth Liberation Front. These men and women are direct descendants of KKK leaders and their ilk who BOMBED CHURCHES in the 50’s and 60’s in this country. People back then lynched whole families and used the law to deny poor, helpless minority people the freedom they said was a God given right-as far as their own kids were concerned. The supremacists train in forms of extreme survival, armed and unarmed combat-okay, no problem, these days anybody with any sense of self-preservation does that. The problem is, these people recruit just like the IRA, disseminate information just like the ELF, and blow up daycares in Oklahoma-just like Hamas. Then they go home to our suburbs. They turn into the loan officer, who says you don’t qualify, or the police officer who puts your brother in the hospital, or the fireman who says he just couldn’t get your child out in time. They are professional, many are military trained(look at the photo in the above article sucking up to white soldiers). To be honest, after looking at articles like this, I’m a little less inclined to complain if homeland security and the NSA wants to mop these people up.

Steve, When will Bush and his cronies be indicted for cutting money for levee maintenance three years running, knowingly and with forethought leaving the poor people of New Orleans to drown, imprisoning them in a dead city for days with no food, water, sanitation, or medical care, dispersing them around the country far from family, friends, and loved ones, then turning these refugees he created out on the streets? Meanwhile he steered aid to rich white people and business owners, and GOP stronghold Mississippi. You and your friends only reveal your own ignorance of current affairs when you post such nonsense. I’d say its a clear case of too much Fox News.

Although reprehensible to many, BEING A RACIST is not illegal. Bringing the full force of the federal government down on an organization merely because of its’ beliefs, is a slippery slope.
I suppose that a state full of mormans ought appreciate that.
If this organization supposidly is linked to bombings, murders, and robberies, then why does the federal government have to settle for a doubious case, in order to prosecute it?
I hope that the federal prosecuters listen to some gangster rap songs while they are still in their prosectutorial zeal.

I propose that racist organizations — like any other zenophobic, bigotry pandering and promoting organizations, whether ideological or religious or other — are a refuge for insecure, panicky paranoids and exploitative sociopaths, with the latter finding the organization a convenient and irresistible source of income and power. Often the members relieve their fear or anchored sense of intimidation by demeaning, attacking and/or destroying those they fear and their things of value and conceal from themselves their own self doubt, usually relating to their individual social or socioeconomic worth or rank, by making a claim of superiority for themselves and right to privilege based on their group identifications and not on their individual merit. It is no suprise that these white supremacist groups are invariably involved in robbery, murder and anti-social, criminal weapons use and that the leaders live off membership and criminal proceeds going to the groups.

It’s sad that so many of you have been so brainwashed by diversity propaganda that you’re blind to the larger issue: Shaun Walker and his two cohorts are being tried solely for their politics.
Why didn’t the purported “victims” press charges for assault three years ago? Why didn’t the state of Utah press assault charges three years ago? Why did the Feds wait three years to make a stink of this?
The indictment, which I’ve posted on my site, provides a possible answer. The indictment refers several times to a “nameless” fourth person. Now, why would that fourth person remain “nameless”? Possibly because he’s an informer. A former National Alliance member named Keith Cotter was arrested earlier on unrelated charges, and is believed to be cooperating with the Feds to save his skin. The Feds price: Bring down Shaun Walker. Under those circumstances, how can you trust an informer?
If you people really think Shaun Walker deserves to go to jail for 20 years just for tossing out a few racial slurs during a couple of bar fights, then you are thinking like Soviets instead of like Americans. And this wouldn’t surprise me – the Soviet Union didn’t die in 1991, it just changed its address.

Something is real fishy when the prosecutors decide to wait 4 years before prosecuting a case. These men are being tried for thought crimes and nothing more. Hopefully the judge will see through the prosecutors political motives and dismiss the case.

Keith – You’re absolutely right. Judge Alba has apparently seen through this and released two of the accused on their own recognizance, although putting them on a short leash.
However, I’m concerned about the large gaps in time between recent comments. I sincerely hope this site isn’t censoring comments supporting Shaun Walker if they are worded in civil fashion. Censorship skews the final results and would put ABC News in the position of unwittingly misleading the public, contributing to the growing anti-media bias in America.
Posted by: Anchorage Activist | June 15, 2006, 6:21 pm 6:21 pm
The glaring mystery here is why, if according to the FBI these two have an established record of robberies, murders and bombings, they haven’t been indicted on these charges. And certainly before this.
Instead they’re indicted on what in any other state would amount to a misdemeanor or at best some sort of endangerment.
I don’t think ABC or the press in general are censoring anything.
But I don’t believe they or we have been given the complete story.
Something is out of balance with this case. The dots just don’t connect and there are huge gaps in the logic stream.

Thoughts to ponder:
Being racist might not be illegal, but acting contrary to law on the basis of racism constitutes a hate crime.
Prejudice is born of ignorance. Educating each other is the only way to effectively eliminate the root cause.
The White House resident not only uses improper english but in fact makes up his own words and word forms.
Freedom of speech is limited by the laws of this country, ie. libel, slander, defamation of character.
