Candidate for Senate Gambled under Fake Name
A senatorial candidate has admitted he used a phony name when he gambled at an Indian casino. Alan Schlesinger, the Republican candidate for senator in Connecticut, is now being urged by fellow Republicans to consider dropping out of the race.
Schlesinger said he went by the name Alan Gold at Foxwoods Resort Casino to avoid detection as a card counter and to receive a special casino card that rewards patrons with meals and merchandise.
Schlesinger admits to using the bogus name but said he did nothing inappropriate and used the card because he wanted privacy.
"I didn’t want anyone to say I was bias for or against the tribe, and I didn’t want to be on the mailing list," Schlesinger said.
He also says blackjack players do not have to report their names because Indian Casinos do not prohibit card counting.
Judd Everhart, a spokesman for the governor said, "Governor Rell is disturbed by this new information and believes that Alan Schlesinger should seriously consider whether he should go forward with his campaign."
GOP State Chairman George Gallo agrees. "In light of the allegations brought against him, he should assess and reassess his candidacy."
The allegations first surfaced in a letter sent to the governor’s offices by Bradley Beecher, a former cop assigned to casino enforcement.
Admitting he still occasionally gambles, with a hint of sarcasm, Schlesinger said he has no intentions of dropping out of the race. "I re-assessed it for a couple of seconds and will continue on as candidate."
If he stays in the race, Schlesinger will face Sen. Joe Lieberman, who plans to stay in the race whether or not he wins the Democratic nomination.

How does the liberal left press get the info that he’s a card counter. Anyone could count cards and I doubt he is proficient at the art. This is bogus crap. Also anyone can get a comp. card for extras at casinos depending on how much one gambles and time spent on the machines. This is his private life, he can use what ever name he wants.

As usual, the right-wing noise machine is quick to action (and defend anyone with a (R) behind their name) and slow to comprehension. The article states plainly:
“He also says blackjack players do not have to report their names because Indian Casinos do not prohibit card counting.”
Unless he was tossing in a non-sequitur for no real reason I think it’s safe to assume that he was indeed counting cards.

gambling? big deal. card counting? more power to you. getting a comp card in a different name? doesn`t that take a fake id.? when i got mine at foxwoods i had to show a licence. how the heck did he do that?

getting a fake card without and id, is kinda tricky but i have several. I usually just imply that im in a hurry, say I dont want a card because i dont want mail, and if they persist, say i will only get one if i dont have to give my address, if they ask for an id, i tell them forget about it, but usally they hand me a peice of paper that has all the info spots, and you proceed to fill it with bogus information. It also helps to be pushing a couple black chips into the betting spot while you do it, since that will imply that you are a VALUABLE customer, and they wouldnt want to offend you. If your young like me it helps to show your id to the dealer imediatly prior to play so the floor person doesnt ask to verifi your age and see your different name.
And who the f is attw with his notions that card counting is a crime? casinos hold an advantage over millions of peopel everyday, and your totally impliiing that ONE player who turns the tables on a casino for a small profit by appliing his intelligence is an evil misguided individual. If you knew that all the aces had been dealt from a shoe, you also would probibly leave the table, if not his fault that your too ignorant to pay attention to what cards have been dealt and how they effect your chances of winning money. Ill bet youv lost thousands in casinos and your just jealous fo his talent.
