A New Gun in Town

There is a new gun in town: a Swiss minigun the size of a key fob that can shoot an eye out, according to an Intelligence Bulletin from the Baltimore, Md. police obtained by ABC News.

Police officers face weapons of every description every day — from "Hello Kitty Key Chains" that  turn out to be razor sharp knives to guns concealed in cigarette packs.  ABC News regularly reports on the phenomena. But this gun is unusual even in that mix.

It is advertised as the smallest fully functional revolver in the world. But it packs an outsized punch.

According to the Swiss manufacturer’s website, "This firearm is a scaled-down model of the much acclaimed and mystical Colt Python with all the same features as are found on the real size gun."

Police officers have been advised to watch out for the gun, which fires miniature ammunition that could take an eye out at close range.

"The manufacture of this exceptional miniature revolver has only been possible by exploiting the incomparable expertise and latest technologies of the Swiss Watch and Jewelery Industry, upon which its worldwide reputation is built. Our revolver and its ammunition are 100% Swiss made,"  the manufacturer states.

Get real…..It seems the only real damage is to put an eye out, if you can take the time to aim and be a marksman. I think the same can be accomplished by using an ice pick. Apparently a body shot would be like a bee sting. So here we go again with the media panic. Enter the gun control wackos proclaiming there’s another dangerous weapon in the hands of criminals.

I think I’m gunna buy 50 of these, and go on a bank robbin spree. Cause 50 is more menacin than just 1, plus, think of how many eyes I could put out at once.

Yep, elections are coming and the anti gunners are digging for anything to get a Democrat back in the White House to push gun control. Brian Ross will print anything.

Looks like a new assault weapon to me.
This article looks like a Brady bunch press release.

Has ABC gone Liberal? It’s Gun Control Activism Supreme when one has to waste time reporting on such an item! One can be harmed with a “cap-gun” too…if one gets one’s finger caught in the hammer! Give it up…!

Gimme a break. I recall watching The Three Stooges many years back. How many times did Moe try to poke Larry or Curly in the eyes with his fingers? OK, so just cover your eyes if someone shoots that pea-sized revolver at you.

Please don’t let the TSA know about this or the security checkpoints at airports will come to a standstill. I’m sure you could slip one of these through the metal detector setting it off.

The more closed-minded will go off on political rants to serve and protect their positions but this is really more about a comment on the sad state of the world when the efforts to miniaturize a “100% Swiss made” anything, produces a weapon of any type. Having been in the field of ophthalmology for over 25 years, I can only say, it’s easy fodder to make jokes about losing an eye – as long as it’s not yours. The manufacturer should be ashamed of their contribution to the perils faced by our police, children and society as a whole.

Posted by: R Brassard | August 7, 2006, 1:26 pm 1:26 pm

Has anybody from the press ever tried firing a short-barrelled “Saturday night special” and realized how difficult it is to aim even something that small? Next time I feel murderous I think I’ll start running with scissors. It’s a lot cheaper and easier poking eyes out that way than trying to get someone to get close enough and sit still long enough for me to aim this little gun. Maybe I could sharpen the end of it…

Wow, I sure could have used this 35 years ago when all the neighborhood kids had bb gun fights. The cartridge probably holds one grains of powder, enough to leave a red mark from a distance of one foot. The most dangerous thing in our bb gun fights was to gain the high ground in town, which was the church steeple, as it was infested with honey bees and it actually had bats in the bellfry.

Posted by: Bernie | August 7, 2006, 1:36 pm 1:36 pm

Oh my. Where is Moore and Sauros. They ought to be all over this one. Head line their anti-gun agenda with the UN. Ya know, doesn’t anyone have anything better to do. Let’s concentrate on the actual terrosists in this country and eliminate them. Though that little gun might look useful enough to hijack a plane or blow up a building. Let’s put an all alert PBB out to look for these and spend enormous amounts of money on search and seizure. To heck with our energy crisis and $4.00 a gallon gas. I think that might be the least of my worries.

Get off your Rush Limbaugh rope-a-dope and read the articles for what they say, not that filtered old, “liberal agenda” mess you could pull out of a box of Wheaties.
You’re hatred for a different view than your own has robbed you of another chance to read an article for what it is, not what you can find in it.

A Swiss company made a tiny gun. Nothing more, nothing less. Why are you all getting all left and right?
It is funny that the Swiss, the Kings of Being Nutrual have no problem with their country creating and selling fire arms of any size. It’s ironic, really.

You guys are missing the point. The manufacturer didn’t need to make it fire for it to be a work of art. It looks like a toy and could be very attractive to a 3 or 4 year old. Putting out an eye is doing harm — serious harm. But we don’t want to place any control on weapons like this, ’cause it’ll make a great hunting weapon — good for shooting ants.

HA! I saw thiw earlier, and actually considered buying one, but it was too expensive. people are asking why even make one at all, or why it has to fire to be a piece of art. It is made by swiss watchmakers to show off thier craftsmanship. It fires miniscule ammunition that you can only buy from them. People are worried that a kid will get ahold of it, because thye will be attracted to it because it looks like a toy. Guess what, it’s extremely rare, handmade, and costs over $1000 dollars. You can get one made of gold and encrusted with jewels if you want.

This “weapon” is much less threatening than the average BB gun found at Walmart- having a comparable projectile velocity, inferior rate of fire and a smaller cartridge. Considering the fact that BB and Pelet guns are often entirely plastic with lead ammunition and no explosive gunpowder they are undetectable by metal detectors and much more threatening. Why dont you write a story about that. The minigun is nothing more than an interesting suvenier for gun fans.

I think the Baltimore police department should immediately invest in glasses. After all, there is a distinct possibility that these evil guns will be used in drive by shootings.
If it is made akin to a Python it will only have 6 shots. Thank god it is not magazine fed. After all, it is the 7th shot that is really deadly (or just painful).
Congress should immediately investigate. I want oversight. I want a new law… we will call it the MAWB. The micro assault weapons ban. Time to tune up the metal detectors, invest in rubber gloves for body cavity searches. This madness of micro dust shooting guns has got to stop. Our children’s corneal well being is at issue.

It’d be a pretty comical Weaver Stance..hold between thumb and forefinger, then squeeze with forefinger of other hand…
Ooooooh, I’m shaking with fear, or maybe that’s just my eyes rolling in an attempt to save themselves

For 6,300 Swiss francs this gun can be yours. 6,300 Swiss francs translate into roughly $5,000 American dollars. The bullets alone are $7. each.

The Democrats and the Liberals shouldn’t be very worried about this device since they’re eyes are either closed or their heads are buried in the sand (or any other orifice that could hold a pea brain).
It’s time to pull your head out!
I’m not sure a thug would spend $500 on a gun built for Barbie.

Do anyone know if this gun is available in a magna-ported version?
I have found that in spite of using a
standard two handed weaver stance
the muzzle climb is “harsh”.I also need pricing on night sights and pacmyr grips….thanks

I think it is interesting to note that this revolver is “not importable” to the U.S. It isn’t large enough, according to U.S. law. I guess out collective eyesight is safe. The really funny part is that Canada allows it’s importation.

I only have one question about this gun…. how would you pull the trigger? I mean you would probably have to use a stick or a loop of twine. I dont see how anyone above the age of 18 months could get their finger in the trigger guard.

For the price of this quasi-harmless little novelty junk, I can get about 7 brand new Glocks or 2 brand new Benelli M3 Super 90s! They can keep it for all I care. I can punch somebody in the face and do more damage than this over glorified little key chain!

from the manufacturers website
“The power of the SwissMiniGun Cal. 2.34m/m ammunition is just less than 1 joule.
We would like to take this opportunity to inform journalists who are interested in writing articles about our product that the power of most airguns or BB guns, which are in many countries freely on sale, can exceed over 10 times the power of our ammunition.
We do not wish to find on the web the same kind of nonsense article we have found lately.
Therefore, journalists are very welcome to contact us for any further information. Thank you.”
1/10 the power of a bb-gun, and it’s illegal in the U.S.
What a waste of an article.

I am fascinated at just how much time our politicians are willing to spend to protect the collective public from things like steroids in baseball and doll size artillary but could give a damm less about wall street destroying our economy on what will soon be found to be a scale beyond anyones comprehention. But hey, whats really more important. Home runs and RBI’s of course.
