Democrats Jump on Ney’s Plea Deal
In the wake of Rep. Bob Ney’s (R-OH) guilty plea, Democrats are bringing back the "culture of corruption" charge and challenging House Republicans to give back the more than $472,000 in campaign contributions Ney has made to them. "Ohio and all of America is ready to move on from the wave of corruption that has plagued Washington under Republican leadership," said Congressman Rahm Emanuel, Chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "Americans are ready for a new direction this November because it’s time for a Congress that will put the American people’s interests ahead of the special interests." "We knew this day was coming and now that Ney has decided to trade the back room for the courtroom, will Ney’s Republican beneficiaries do the right thing and return his tainted money?" asked Bill Burton, communications director of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "Ney has sent hundreds of thousands of dollars to his Republican friends, and his case shows how widespread the corruption is in Washington. It’s time for new leadership and a new direction in Washington because American families deserve honest leadership and an end to the story of corruption in power." Check out the long list of those coming under fire for accepting contributions from Rep. Ney.

Corruption smells like poop wherever it pops up — whether from a good Republican like me or from a good Democrat like you (assuming that you are). In either case, when WE THE PEOPLE insist that they be shown their room at the Big House — we win.

You can clean up a lot of this kind of mess by taking the lobbyists out of the picture. I will admit that groups have every right to have their opinion heard. Having your opinion heard should never be based on how much money you have to throw around. An opinion, idea, should stand on its own merits, not on how much time you can buy from a Congress person.
