I am seriously shocked that he hasn’t received some form of sentencing- I’m a pretty reasonable and sympathetic guy when it comes to punishments (bringing down manslaughter terms etc) but on this I am the complete opposite.
The more you see of the text conversation, which grows steadily more and more disturbing and it progresses, the more infuriated you become that the government doesn’t care at all.
P.S. I know of course this isn’t relevant or his fault but the kid took an inordinately long time to catch on. Also it kind of creeps me out that he’d open up so much to an adult online.

Uh, they weren’t minors. The age of consent in D.C. is 16. So he was really just being creepy.

There is also another aspect, legally speaking, did ABC get legal authorisation to publish the IM messages? In other words, permission from Foley AND the underage people involved? If not, then they are in breach of US privacy laws.

Irrespective of Foley and what he did or did not do… the question I want answered is this:
IF what FOLEY did was so reprehensible (and do not get me wrong here, it was reprehensible) why does ABC not recant from broadcasting the IM messages? Are they not in the same boat for broadcasting such messages as Foley himself?
To my mind, they are now no different.

Some states have done a relatively good job of mapping out predators, however, some firms have developed software that tracks them far more effectively.

The simple reason that this is a political issue is because Republican members of congress knew about it and did nothing. And quit being hypocrites. If a Democrat did it, it would be just as political. When something wrong is done by a politician, it is going to be political. Wake up and pull your head out.

Are you people here as sick and twisted as those that victimize children? I am disgusted to see what is a human issue and more so, a child welfare issue being turned into a political issue. I have read very few responses about the well being of not just those affected here but those affected nationally and internationally for life because of being victims of sex crimes against children. The issue isn’t limited to Dems and Pubs, this is issue isn’t black or white or rich or poor. Everyone one is affected and all children are potential victims and need to be protected! It doesn’t matter his role in life, politician, teacher, engineer, sales clerk, anyone can be a child predator. Those that look at this for a political platform and that look at this for political gain are as sick and twisted as the predator here and exploit these children in the same way for their own satisfaction!

This guy sounds like the typical internet predator. The kind that teenagers my age run into all the time, always asking sick questions. This story is made more horrendous by the fact that a man of such power would make those kind of comments. Its kinda scary that a person so influential could act that way.
