McCain: Abramoff ‘way too influential’ in Washington
ABC’s Teddy Davis reports: When asked by ABC News today whether the new Abramoff report calls into question the veracity of earlier White House efforts to downplay the number of contacts with lobbyist Jack Abramoff, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) said that he has not had a chance to see the the House Government Reform Committee’s report while adding: "I believe that Mr. Abramoff’s influence with both the Congress and the White House was inappropriate, and I’ve said that many times."
"It’s very clear," said Sen. McCain, "that Mr. Abramoff and his lieutenants were way too influential here in Washington."
Sen. McCain’s Indian Affairs Committee was instrumental in the Abramoff investigation.
