Statement from Southcom on the Allegations of Abuse at Gitmo

Southcom released the following statement today on the allegations of abuse at the Guantanamo Bay detention center:

USSOUTHCOM investigates abuse allegations at Guantanamo

DORAL, Fl. — Gen. John Craddock, commander of U.S. Southern Command, today directed an
investigation into recent allegations by a Marine paralegal of detainee abuse at Joint Task Force
Guantanamo detention facilities.

An Army Colonel has been appointed to conduct an investigation in accordance with Army
Regulation 15-6.

The investigation is consistent with U.S. Southern Command’s policy to investigate credible
allegations of abuse at the JTF-GTMO detention facilities.

The purpose of this investigation is to establish the facts and circumstances surrounding the
allegations and determine compliance with policies and procedures.
