Is There a Correct Place to Breastfeed?

Yesterday on our webcast Nancy Cordes asked women if they thought breastfeeding should be done in a certain place and in a certain way. Around the country nursing mothers calling themselves "lactivists" staged a "nurse-in" to show support for a woman who was kicked off her flight for nursing in her seat. We invited you to let us know what you thought about public breastfeeding, and you have responded. Join a lively debate here.

Yes. There is a time and a place for breastfeeding. The time is whenever the baby is hungry and the place is any place that the mother and baby has a legal right to be.
A mother should take reasonable measures to be disreet if possible – and I know it isn’t always possible. Bathrooms and hot blankets are NOT reasonable requests for discretion. And the age of the child does not matter either – newborn or preschooler, it is all the same to me.
If one is offended all one needs to do it look away – as I do when my overweight, hairy neighbor is mowing his lawn shirtless. He has a legal right to do so and to complain would be offensive.

The place is anywhere. When the baby needs to feed that is the place.

Whenever, where ever Mom and Baby are, whenever baby needs to nurse!!!! The baby’s basic need for food and nurturing certainly is much more important than American adults’ learned aversions to seeing a woman feeding a baby in the normal manner.

I believe a mother and child have the right to breastfeed wherever and whenever the baby decides. I breastfed my first daughter until she weaned herself at 13 months where ever she was hungry. If that was at the mall or restaraunt. If others were offended then I would make sure they realized they could overt their stares. They were not made to look at my child eating. Our culture has demoralized and perverted the breast. Look how often you see half naked or fully naked breasts on magazines and tv. That is seen as okay and normal. But womens breasts were not made for that purpose. They were ment for nurturing and nurishing infants and young children.
