Rice Wallops Clinton and Pelosi in Poll
ABC News’ David Chalian Reports: Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is clearly seen as far more powerful than Hillary Clinton or Nancy Pelosi according to a new Quinnipiac University poll. People polled were asked to choose the most powerful woman in the country today of those three female political heavyweights.
Forty-five percent of those polled chose Rice compared to 29 percent who chose Clinton and 23 percent who said Speaker-to-be Pelosi was the most powerful woman.
Among Democrats, Clinton edged ahead (a statistical tie, actually) of Rice in the poll. Thirty-four percent of Democrats polled said Hillary Clinton was the most powerful woman compared to 33 percent of Democrats who said that about Secretary Rice.

Fat chance that she is more powerful. Anyone in the Bush Administration that has kept a low profile as she has, can now start to speak. The failed policies of this Administration can only make someone as her seem brighter than they are, But! Not really. She has never been tested on her own, because she has hid from the spotlight and the top officials have rehearsed their chorus of support for the Mideast and Iraq. I am sure all of you know where those policies are going. If you don’t, they are going down to nothing but termoil.

I think the polls are right (not the democrat’s poll) of course, I would say that the most powerful womam in the USA today is Barbara Bush followed very closely by Condy Rice, of course, she is not only powerful but is also very intelligent and smart.

I think ABCNews has put a misleading (and perhaps even disingenuous) title for this story that suggests Rice is more popular. Wallops? Please… I often have the feeling we’re just being duped into clicking when I read through articles online. So in fact Quinnipiac University says that Rice is seen as more powerful than Clinton & Pelosi by a group of Republicans that they polled. Fine. Are we even sure they worded it in such a way that people weren’t just choosing who they felt had the more powerful personality?

Mike,
You spelled Condoleezza’s name wrong. It’s Condi, not Condy. You also said “Very intelligent and smart”. That is the same thing, there is no need grammatically to state that twice. Also, Democrat is a proper noun and should be spelled with a capital letter D. The reason the Republicans do not support education is because they do not want to lose their voters.

Condi vs Hillary in 2008 would be the election of a lifetime for everyone.

Just because Condi hasn’t been “in the spotlight” doesn’t mean she doesn’t wield a large amount of power relative to the other two women.
Hillary and Pelosi are part of representative bodies of government, where power is quite divided. This is quite true for Hillary, as a junior Senator. Even in Pelosi’s case, as leader of a house of government, her power is dependent on the support of a majority of her colleagues. Additionally, their influence rarely extends beyond the water’s edge.
Condi, on the other hand, need only convince the President (one man) of a policy decision for it to be enacted. Moreover, the President already defers somewhat to her judgement in matters of state. Her position as head of the diplomatic corps means her influence spreads to other global leaders, in addition to the POTUS, the most powerful leader in the world.

This is indeed misleading. a) The poll doesn’t ask who people prefer, only who is “more powerful.” Naturally many people think the Sec. of State is more powerful than a Senator or a Congresswoman (the latter is still not well known). b) there are two Dems and one Republican. So the responses of the Democrats are split — they add up to 52% — while the Republicans are channelled to one choice.
The poll has nothing to do with a possible presidential race. Condi isn’t even viable. (And–foreign policy experience is not a political asset: ask Presidents Carter, Reagan, Clinton and Bush Jr.)
This is bad polling and worse reporting.

Quinnipiac University poll……What EXACTLY was the wording in this poll?
Perhaps people were under the impression of who was most powerful in terms of RANK in the govt.

Peter, I’ll agree with the majority of your post, but I’m going to claim instead that this was bad reporting and worse polling.
Anyone who claims that Clinton is the most powerful woman in American Government doesn’t understand American Government. I think there’s a legitimate argument between Condi and Pelosi. But why would you poll it? Generally polling is done when public opinion is important. Public opinion in this question is utterly irrelevant. I just don’t understand. Terrible Poll.

Power or Leadership are two different items .. Killing and
injuring American soldiers based on lies and misleading info from
our President is not justified as
power ..Ask the widows and wives of the injured ..who they will
select as their leader ..

I would never vote for Rice. She was head of the NSA, which Richard
Pearle said, was thought to be the most competent NSA team turned ou tobe the most incompetent teamfor the past half century. And I still remember her
disgusting image when she talked about the Evil of Axis.

Is Rice, who could not get her return calls, the most powerful???

This is a very very bad polling and worse worse reporting. How could you have two Dems and only one Republican for your polling??????

It is time that the news media started filing Quinnipac polls in file 13 (the trash can)!
Every poll they issue is suspect and more often… in our estimate…than not… incorrect!
Condeleeza Rice powerful? We have her on tape lying through her teeth espousing aims and proposals
harmful and opposed to the interests of all Americans!
If this was known to the same people Quinipac is polling over and over again…we wonder how angry they would be with their poll “results”!

Rice is #1 only because of her position. In a survey of presidential hopefuls, she’d definitely score lower than Clinton.

If animals were included in the poll. I would prefer supporting a Rooster, Wolf .. or better yet a majestic Cobra! They’re a clever lot, believe it or not. Hold it, gone over the edge, have I? Blame too many polls, military experts and political pundits. If I did it.

Of what value would it be to an American, Boer, Hottentot or Jew if Rice wields more power than Hillary? Is the political debate in the media that shallow in the States? I’m embarrassed on the behalf of my US media colleagues. Why does’t the question read: Who has killed more; Bush and Cheney as they search for free oil fields in Iraq or Osama bin Laden.
I’m ashamed that the US media has stooped to the gutter in support of a regime presided over by history’s most moronic and empty-headed government in Washington.
Shame on ABC, shame on the US media fraternity for kowtowing to a dimwit!
