Terror Rocket Launcher Stolen from Aussie DOD

An audit of the Australian Defense Force has concluded a shoulder-fired anti-tank rocket seized during raids on a Sydney man with alleged links to terrorism was stolen from Australian army stocks. The weapon was seized in a raid linked to a plot to blow up an Australian bridge and nuclear reactor. The man arrested was charged with 17 counts in connection with stealing the weapon. He is currently awaiting trial. Defense Minister Brendan Nelson admitted the M-72 anti-tank weapon recovered by police in last year’s raids had come from military stocks, an Australian newspaper reported. Anti-terror police are hunting for six more of the weapons, five of which they say were sold to terrorists and all of which they believe came from the military’s stock, according to the Sydney Morning Herald’s Monday edition. The revelation is the latest embarrassment for the Australian military, which is still recovering from the fallout after they temporarily lost the body of Private Jake Kovco, the only Australian casualty in Iraq. I am sure some of the current US military hardware are on the blackmarket now. I am also sure that some of it has been used against American troops in Iraq. When this lethal stuff is massed produced it is impossible to keep an accurate accounting for it. This type of weaponry is getting easier to get by the day.

Tom Vaitys- yeah well our spare parts for jet fighters often get 3rd partied and sold to Iran- I hope we don’t do that with the Minuteman Missles. They should put software on weapons that our intel has a code for and can punch in to render them useless when in the hands of bad guys.

If LAX can lose a few hundred ID badges and uniforms, I doubt that our military can account for all of our shoulder fired missiles etc. Maybe we should have spent some of the money screwing up Iraq on Homeland Security.

“They should put software on weapons that our intel has a code for and can punch in to render them useless.”
Your opponents would just get the codes for your missiles then…
