D.C. Lawyer Demands ABC News Keep His Client Secret

The lawyer for a "government witness" in the federal prosecution of Jeane Palfrey, the accused D.C. Madam, is demanding his client’s name not be broadcast by ABC News. In a letter to ABC News, Steven Salky of Zuckerman Spaeder in Washington, D.C., said he has "reason to believe" that his client might be named in this Friday’s "20/20" report about the alleged prostitution ring. But Salky did not identify who his client is. THE BLOTTER RECOMMENDS Photos D.C. Madam Affair Unfolds in Pictures Blotter D.C. Madam Wants Washington Clients to Testify Blotter Senior Official Linked to Escort Service Resigns Click Here to Check Out Brian Ross Slideshows ABC News has made contact with an extensive list of men traced to phone records of Palfrey’s escort service business. In his letter to ABC News, Salky claimed broadcasting his client’s name would violate a court order preventing "Ms. Palfrey from engaging in acts or actions against Government witnesses." The court order, issued March 22 by Federal District Judge Gladys Kessler, ordered Palfrey to stop her lawsuit against a number of former employees of her escort service.  She alleged they had breached their employment agreement by having sex with customers.  Palfrey says her service only provided "legal, fantasy sex" and not any actual sexual intercourse. Judge Kessler said Palfrey’s lawsuit was "harassment" of a government witness and ordered her not to engage in any "similar acts."  Prior to the court order, Palfrey provided four years’ worth of phone records to ABC News. She said she wanted to "stand up to the government" and "show the hypocrisy of the situation that’s going on." ABC News did not pay for the records or agree to provide research to Palfrey or her legal team. One customer, Randall Tobias, resigned last week as deputy secretary of state after confirming to ABC News he had placed calls to the escort service to have "some gals come over to the condo for a massage." Tobias denied there was any sex involved. He resigned prior to any public mention of his name.

If she is going down for this let the the Johns go down as well. Release the list and let the chips fall. This is going to get out in the open one way or the other so ABC should just get it over with. I love seeing all of the conservative pundits basically go on rants about how releasing the names would be some moral violation. Isn’t using an escort service a moral violation? If they really didn’t do anything wrong why are so many people protesting so loudly?

Well, well, well, this should come as no surprise. Once again the adage about throwing stones and living in glass houses. I am sure we will never really see “the list”

I totally agree. Release the list.
And what would be even more humorous is hearing a liberal defend their freedoms no matter how egregious the acts.
At least we know that its not James McGreevey.

I think the list should be released so all can know who is involved. Especially if there are high government officials involved. (Which I’d guess there probably are).
Even though I do not agree that prostitution should be illegal, I think since it is, the public has the right to know. Especially since it is a federal lawsuit, and I pay my federal taxes.
ABC should just post the list and be reporters again. Not government whips like all media seems to be becoming lately.

Sadly all can fail in thier ideals. To call one a hypocrite opens up the countercliam of hypocrisy (hypocritical hypocrite?) Let the guilty fall for their actions. Name calling is as a somewhat immature action. Have you noticed that all can be called ahypocrite as some time? Hypocrisy is not setting a high goal, and failing to meet it. LET THE GUILTY FALL FOR THEIR ACTIONS, let us call the mis-deeds what they are, wrong.

If a news organization can release the horrible tapes and manifesto of the young man who killed so many at Virginia Tech, then this is a no brainer…

Posted by: Kim | May 2, 2007, 2:13 pm 2:13 pm

I think the media world has become scared to report the news. Our politicians are sooooo powerful these days and have so many people, organizations, and businesses in their pockets we can’t get the ‘real’ news, only what Bush and his cronies want us to know. Only what makes them look good. No real news! This is real news folks! If they didn’t take pubic office, I’d say “hey, leave them alone.” But they did take it. Therefore, their lives are public. Of course they don’t want us to know. Tough! It’s our right as the Americans who elected them! ABC news has always been my #1 choice. I’ve always felt like they were different, than say FOX. I hope they don’t fall into the norm as far as the news goes. Stand up boys and girls! Give us news!!

Expose them all. If they didn’t do anything illegal why was Ms. Palfrey arrested? I knew some of them would hire lawyers to find loopholes. Their lawyers probably have been clients too. lol They are all dishonest liars, have committed crimes and should not be in positions of power over the lives of others. Their families deserve to know what kind of men they really are, even though it will be painful. Imagine the diseases they could bring home to their families. They probably are the type who brag about their illegal acts, harass women and call them derogatory names, meanwhile they are busy dialing up escort services. I can’t wait to pop open a cold one and watch 20/20 Friday night. LMAO!!!!!

I for one won’t be watching. Name them all or name NONE. And why only 4 years worth of records since this started in 93? Smear some, cover the butts of others? No dice. All or nothing. You lost a viewer until you do that.

How sad is all of this, we have our young boys over in Iraq fighting a losing battle and losing so many innocent lives and these crooked politicians are having the time of their lives, so they thought. Let no stone be unturned, expose them all ABC.

Kip,
The right that “we” have is to know who did is if public money was used.
if it was not the I agree with you “we” do not have any right to know who is on the lists.

Uhh guys? The client this lawyer is refering to is one of the madam’s ex-employees. Not someone from The List. Read the article. Not to say I don’t want to see The List in the light of day. But we should all pay more attention to what is being discussed before ranting.

well, americans are finally wakeing up to what the rest of the world knew all along, that these guys in power in washington, are nothing but crooks, for those who did not know the government is the biggest organize crime unit in the world, it’s ok to gamble when they sanctioned it but not when you set up a site in another country, now they get caught with their pants down and they cry foul, like someone said earlier name names, post the list get back to reporting the news and not filtering it to apeased the Bushies and the likes.

These are not mutually exclusive perspectives. I absolutely agree that there is a strong voyeuristic component on the part of the public at large. However, I do also believe very firmly that holders of public office should be held accountable when they break the laws they have sworn to uphold. While I lament the former, it does not preclude the latter. (Whether or not the latter will actually come to pass, is a question about which I’m far more cynical, alas…)

It doesn’t matter whether this is viewed as legal or illegal activity – No one should be above the law.
Enough of the Heidi’s and Jeane’s dragged through the media, courts and doing jail time – if the John’s weren’t buying there would be no sale.
If the Madame and her ladies go down, then it is only fair the John’s go down too, every single, step of the way.

One question I have — undoubtedly most of the people on the list probably engaged in inappropriate behavior. But apparently her phone number was a local one. How can ABC be sure that every number on that list was made purposely. In other words, what if someone was trying to call Blockbuster, for instance, (as Howard Kurtz points out) misdialed a digit and got the madam? Or what about a somebody’s son, living at home, makes a call while his folks are away. How does ABC verify, and do they even have an obligation to verify?

I personally am thrilled that you are sharing the names; the past three election cycle sand running up to the current administration all we heard-we will clean up the Oval office; The current administration used discriminatory issues to win elections; Foley-Haggerty and all the rest. Nate Mishkin — Since she apparently gave only four years worth of records to ABC (which seems kind of odd), does the judge’s order prohibit her from from giving ABC the rest? Again, it seems kind of odd that she would just give them partial records.

There is far, far too much evil being hidden in Washington today. The politicians are basically thumbing their noses in our (the people, their bosses) face. Look around the office as I am now. How many people in a professional environment can do that and get away with it? I say “release the hound!”

Posted by: JoeOffice | May 2, 2007, 4:13 pm 4:13 pm

I suspect that when all this comes out there will be embarrassment on both sides of the aisle. Sex certainly knows no idealogy. However, I see no reason to protect the clients that engaged in this business. If you are ashamed of your behavior, then you shouldn’t be doing it in the first place. Besides, in this day of sexually transmitted deseases, wives have a right to know if their husbands are putting their health at risk as well as being unfaithful.

I’m having a hard time waiting for your 20/20 show. I look forward to seeing the names of some of the pious government employees that have tried to lord it over us. I only hope ABC doesn’t hold back too much or too long so the courts don’t gag you before you get it all out. Keep up the good work, you owe us after that mockudrama you showed about the Iraqi War and the fake Clinton stuff you used. This goes a long way in redeeming yourselves in my eyes.

I think Brian Ross is doing the right thing. He is investigating the list, and he will report on what is newsworthy. If a politician, political appointee, or policy level civil servant is on the list, I think that easily qualifies as newsworthy.
As far as the poster who wouldn’t want to hire a doctor or lawyer that patronizes prostitutes, why do you depend on others for this information? Wouldn’t it just be easier to ask your doctor or lawyer yourself? Why this roundabout means of gathering consumer information when you haven’t bothered to take the easiest and most direct route?
At any rate, I’m finding the lot of you who want an unabridged list released to be ethically challenged and in no position to criticize the ethics of Brian Ross or anyone at ABC.

Wow, reading the opinions of the common folk is very revealing on what is happening in our country, we complain and complain but when it comes down to it, we really don’t do anything about it. I mean where were the american public nearly 4 years ago when they reelected this President and in doing so giving his cronies 4 more years of disgusting behavior, with no incentive to to clean up their act. Are we so blind? Can we not see that the politicians that we elect into office mirror ourselves and how hypocritical we are. No matter who will be exposed in this latest news fiasco, it will not change anyone’s position in the long run, because the american people allows this to happen time and time again, so don’t blame the Bible or put down morality, we as a people deserve what we get in Washington no matter what the political party may be, because we are those people we put in office.

Hold on Olga. What is this “We” elected this administration?
I didn’t vote for these yahoos and I was also busy warning people not to vote for these yahoos. But nobody listens to bleeding heart liberals these days. The fact is that half of this country is like this. Pretending to be something they are not while the only thing they care about is their mortgages and SUV and the lifestyle they live. This administration fed into the greed that half of all Americans seem to demonstrate in their carelessness of the consequences of mindless consumerism and immediate gratification. Which is essentially the forces at work here.
I did not elect these people. I will take responsibility for my country as an American Citizen but not for Gitmo, the Iraq War, the limiting of rights, the debt, the dead Iraqis, nor the lies of the WMDs, nor anything else this obviously depraved administration dishes out.

student in tn…
theres some difference between the latest washington powerbrokers of the past 4 years (or so)
and those of the more distant political past.one outstanding difference ,since politicians of old KNEW they lived in glass houses, they didnt throw too many stones but evidently todays bright and upcoming hooker hiring politico has never heard that maxim.
its one thing to be holier than thou, but if you talk the talk, you must be able to walk the walk,as they say. from mark foley on down its just one debaucle after another for the moral majority, and i think ms palfrey just wanted to let the mainsteam in on one more, just for good measure. more than 4 years of records might make some of her actual FRIENDS look bad, imo.
although im not so sure democrats as a whole (aka liberals) are generally held to such a high moral standard as the republicans/conservatives,who mostly purport to be the moral conscience and compass for this country.

Posted by: nate_mishkin | May 2, 2007, 6:02 pm 6:02 pm

How can ABC, having obtained the list, release it only selectively?
It’s either news or it isn’t. (I think it is).
I don’t see how a news organization can put itself in the position of trying to decide which people on the list get “outed” and which don’t.
On what journalistic merit would such selective release be made? I mean, they’re either on the list, or they’re not, right? ABC has already named one, and he’s resigned.
To be perfectly honest about it, I think this entire scandal is repulsive. I mean, thousands are dying in Iraq – and we’re sitting here gnashing our teeth over who got laid.
I understand the outrageous hypocrisy of it all – but really, we shouldn’t give a damn who’s on the list.
But it’s out. So – now, why play favorites?

Posted by: Al | May 2, 2007, 6:19 pm 6:19 pm

I don’t see anything wrong in releasing some of the names. Didn’t the republicans run on familiy values and morals? Didn’t they feel that a sexual encounter was enough to impeach a president, and let’s not say it was because he “lied”. If they had houded him on this he would haven’t had to try and cover it up. I would be interested in seeing if any republican preaching others follows “Do as I say, not as I do”.

ANYONE connected to an anti-gay, “pro-life,” “protecting marriage,” or “family values” platform or administration should have his name released.
If a guy hasn’t preached or profited-from a platform or set of policies that are inherently privacy-invading, then he should have a right to his own privacy, since he’s not invading anyone else’s.

A very smart lady! Im sure she knew that would happen and that is why she got the list out before she was told not to. Oh please please please reveal the list.
I’m sure everyone will deny any wrongdoing (money for sex) and that’s just the point.
What goes on between adults, even when it involves money, is no one’s business but their own.
The “johns” will deny everything… so they’ll be OK.
Ms. Palfrey will make her point… sexual fantasy is not illegal and there is no evidence of paid sex…
And, best of all, even though they deny it, a bunch of powerful Republicans will be revealed as the hypocrites that most of us already knew they were, since paid sex or none, I’m pretty sure their churches and faith communities don’t support the use of escort services for massages and fantasies, any more than they support their use for prostitution.
All is for the best in this most perfect of perfect worlds.

Wake up America. DEMAND BETTER POLITICIANS. Don’t elect a Giuliani or a McCain. Don’t elect an Obama or another Clinton. Open your eyes. If you are all about free market, small government, personal responsibility, and the federal government doing what it was SUPPOSED to be doing and providing for the common defense, there’s a candidate in the running right now that fits that bill. And guess what Republicans (now now dems, don’t make it a reason for not voting for him), he’s in your party. Vote Ron Paul, Texas-R for president. We all do the wrong thing. So…if I tell you what is right and do wrong I’m a hypocrite and you would love to expose that fact? Why? To justify your failures? That’s your problem…not mine.

Posted by: buhk | May 2, 2007, 10:14 pm 10:14 pm

Actually, we don’t all fail to practice what we preach because some of us don’t preach. Especially when the preaching is made upon untenable moral or political ground. Therein lies the diff.

The reason people assume it’s chock full of Republicans is because every study shows that they get it more often than democrats (they also donate much more $). I think it comes down to talking about something versus doing something.
Release the whole list from all years, not just the last four. That’s the only way to assure that the info is legit without any agenda. My personal hope is that David Gregory is on that list.

Geez buhk, you sound like a Republican. “Just because I do something illegal or immoral doesn’t mean I should have to answer for it!”

Posted by: Tom | May 2, 2007, 10:25 pm 10:25 pm

I think every one of those names should be released. If it were a list of poor smucks you can believe it would be all over the place. Go ahead post it. Let’s see the names of the politicians Left and Right, the K Street lobbyists, the lawyers, the power brokers, the journalists, the Reverends…
This could be fun, everyone thinks it’s great when it’s the other guys’ ox getting gored.
On the other hand, be careful what you wish for because you might just get your wish.

Don’t ya love the way just about everyone ASSUMES the list is a DC “who’s who” for the Republican Party; as if Democrats never get involved in illegal activities (Barney Frank, Jefferson, Feinstien, etc).
I can’t wait to see how your tune changes to “wheres the respect for Privacy” if names like Clinton, Obama, Reid, Pelosi, Kennedy, Stephanopolis, Rather, Gore, and Murtha end up on the list.

Posted by: kellyj | May 2, 2007, 10:32 pm 10:32 pm

I would agree Buck. All of “Washington” is a slithering slime hole. This isn’t new though. Remember the first presidential Messiah Kennedy. What’s different today is that it a whole lot easier to expose it all. I’m all for it. Public embarrassment is one of the most powerful tools a societial group has to enforce societal norms. (I won’t say morals and values for obvious reasons :^) )

Reading the comments from liberals just confirms how they have no other agenda then to hate George Bush. They immediately bring up his name even though he has nothing whatsoever to do with this. Some liberals on here are so confident that only names of Conservatives are going to come out that I hope they are ready to chastise the names of the liberals on the last as fast as they are to chastise Conservatives before the list is even released. It’s a shame the list only goes back 4 or so years and not all the way back to the beginning, 1993. I’m sure some of Clinton’s cronies names would be on it. Did Monica Lewinsky work for the D.C Madam???

This scandal gives us another peek at how the Administration has been staffed with people who can’t live their lives the way they have preached we should live our lives.
We already know that the Clinton Administration had their scandals. But they did not come into office to tell us how to behave.
The Johns and the whores are both equally guilty. Publish the list. The government isn’t going after the Johns.
I for one would favor legalized Prostitution. But since we make it illegal, lets make both parties public and make them both pay with public shaming.
Let the chips fall where they may.

While they have no problem destroying reputations belonging to commoners, the Washington media is significantly more circumspect about soiling those belonging to the bi-factional ruling party. This media-political complex is much more interested in protecting its own than in reporting the truth or even making money.
After all, a little silence at just the right time can be worth a lot more than a scoop or two.

We need to know each and everyone of these weasels. How many politicians, police officers, and corporative slime balls are involved and setting up a double standard for their families and the rest of society. You know what I am more concerned is the safety of the lady to be honest. I doubt that she is not safe behaving like a rat. I doubt that these patriarchs allow a lady to destroy what these patriarchs all their lives worked hard for. I am sure they deserved a little break, right? :-))) (their wives sure deserve a break too).

Not sure what I am missing, but this company, and many more like it, advertise and list their information in the yellow pages. Escort services are not against the law. Ms Palrey, as she claimed, ran the legal service. She is sueing her employees that breached their agreement and cost her the business. Why, other that to smear, would you think you should see who used a leagl services when no crime has yet to be proven?
On another note, as dems/repubs are 50/50, I bet ABC holds on to the names of the dems and only outs the repubs. yep, they are biased

Posted by: Fred | May 2, 2007, 11:00 pm 11:00 pm

I would just like to reiterate something already mentioned….last time I checked, there were both Democrats and Republicans in Washington. Sex scandals seem to be about one of the only bipartisan endeavors in Washington…So I think some people are going out on a limb to say that it will be a Republican scandal, or that this will somehow be further fodder against the war….WHAT IN THE HECK DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH THE WAR????? I swear the Left is getting more shrill, more petty and more incoherent every day.

Kelly said: “Don’t ya love the way just about everyone ASSUMES the list is a DC “who’s who” for the Republican Party; as if Democrats never get involved in illegal activities ”
Kelly, the difference is that Democrats don’t go around labeling people with “Scarlett Letters” and shaming them into non-existence when they happen to do something that is sexual (as if that’s a bad thing). However, the Republicans ABSOLUTELY do this. Their fundamental (and quite frankly wrong) extreme right views of their own perceived (and flawed) version of morality is what is destroying them.
They (the Republicans) CREATE AND PERSIST THEIR OWN SHAME, and force their version of morality on everyone else. This turn of events is quite fitting, and to be expected. IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN in the near future, too, until the right-wing wackos let go of their egos and see the larger picture.

Posted by: Think | May 2, 2007, 11:13 pm 11:13 pm

How much do you want to bet that we’ll have some sort of “breaking news diversion” to keep the media folks busy if it looks like the names will be made public.

Let me get this straight. Republicans are immoral and Democrats are…amoral.

Posted by: Buck | May 2, 2007, 11:20 pm 11:20 pm

It’s really simple why I want the names released. No, I am not a Dem nor a Republican. I am a moderate but that’s besides the point. The point IS that I am a man for justice. Meaning, rich and powerful people (I am rich but not powerful mind you) can get away with so many things while the average person gets away with nothing. It is appalling how there are more audits of poor citizens than there are of the wealthy. It is appalling how the US Attorney’s office arrested the steroids supplier but are VERY reluctant to name names of his buyers. Please, do you think this is because they are afraid of a wrong name bein leaked?? Come on!! People, they found PERSONALIZED CHECKS of some people who wrote checks to the steroids supplier. Was there just a case of someone stealing those personalized checks and putting their John Hancock on it? I think not.
Som this leads me to this scandal. We know a lot of ‘holier than thou” people frequenting this escort service and thought they should get away with it because of who they are. Well, damnit, I am sick of it. I am sick and tired of people thinking they are above the law. If they want to throw this madam lady in the slammer, fine. She deserves it. But, damnit, find the people who ILLEGALLY paid for her employees’ services too. IT’S ONLY FAIR..

Posted by: Joseph | May 2, 2007, 11:32 pm 11:32 pm

I find it interesting that so many of you are assuming that the majority of people on the list are conservatives. But then, with ABC releasing the names, I expect the majority to be names that can hurt the current administration, and certainly not any of their beloved liberals whose asses they are always covering. Can anyone say “the senior Senator from California will now take the stand in her corruption trial” Haven’t heard much about that on the 3 nets.

Posted by: PWR | May 2, 2007, 11:37 pm 11:37 pm

Joseph – didyou just declare the legal escort business is now illegal. They thought they could get away with something which is NOT illegal – hence they are listed in the yellow pages. Unless, that is, you know for sure they crossed the line. Grow up and stop asking rich.

Posted by: William Jeffrees | May 2, 2007, 11:53 pm 11:53 pm

Fred, you are painting a very broad brush there. First, why don’t you get off your high horse. Second, there are many people out here in the good ole USA who want to know the names and, by gosh, are neither conservative nor liberal. Wow, what a shocker. Third, I don’t want to know their names because I have some political agenda or I enjoy seeing peoples’ lives ruin. I want the names released because our Justice system, for some reason, only prosecutes one side. They want to get the drug pushers, the pimps, the madams, the gun runners. Fine, but why do they neglect the other side? Especially when that other side involves a bunch of high flying, largely white guys (I am white by the way)? We know the answer to that. I say that they completely let the cat out of the bag. Also, why do we arrest madams and pimps? Let’s say, to deter the institution of prostitution. Okay, wouldn’t this be better served if not only did the cops arrest the facilitators, but also the buyers?? Wouldn’t that help deter people since it would send a message that the clients will be prosecuting to the full extent of the law JUST LIKE the pimps and madams? I think that would make the most sense.

Posted by: Sean | May 2, 2007, 11:54 pm 11:54 pm

Why should hiring an escort be against the law IN THE FIRST PLACE? Why should anyone else care — better yet — what business is it of anyone else if Person A willingly hires a willing Person B for sexual services? If the Republicans didn’t make such a big deal about (and strict laws against) stuff like this, they wouldn’t be on the verge of public humiliation like they are now. I personally can’t wait for the 20/20 report.

Posted by: Eric | May 2, 2007, 11:55 pm 11:55 pm

Eric, two things:
1) Don’t be ridiculous. Republicans and Democrats crafted the laws, dude. Unless you can prove, by way of Senate votes, that more Republicans voted for tougher sentences on prostitutes than Dems than your point is not founded on any semblance of reality. *I don’t affiliate with a party so I am not biased
2) I am looking forward to the list too

There should be automatic double punishment for law enforcement who break the law.
There should be automatic triple punishment for the people who write the laws but refuse to follow them.

I bet you also know that she is outing those who WILL HELP her defence that no illegal activity occured. Do you think she would call those who engaged in sexual activity, since as you know by getting it for free, 2 people engage in the act and all the feds need to do is give her immunity to testify – read Pozner’s and Dodd’s book on Cross Examination. I think they still teach the science and techniques of getting one side to testify against the other.
She is outing those who engaged in the legal side – those who engaged in the illegal side would HURT her defense.
Again, congrats on the appartment. I value your thought a little more now.

hmmm hookers and “hoes”. nothing new really, i think maybe its been called the worlds oldest profession, likely for good reason. in the bible theres lots of that going on , and prostitution on the whole was pretty much condoned/ignored by the church at that time.
according to the bible, jesus had close friends who were prostitutes ,so what they are doing today apparently isnt that big of a sin. and anyway,as the good book says, ” he who is without sin ,let him cast the first stone.” that being said, the paid civil servant(who usually has to swear some sort of binding duty oath, usually suffixed by “…so help me god” etc) who may be using taxpayer funding for their “massages” is entirely subject to the taxpayers’scrutiny and should be held accountable if guilty.

Wow, you just showed your true colors as a high-falluting snob. Sorry making 90,000 a year is a mere pittance for you. I am only 25 and all. Maybe I will do better next year. Secondly, again, do you think every single person on that list just had a massage? Third, don’t try to brow beat me. I wasn’t saying anything about what evidence she would try to use to legitimize her business and what strategies would best help her defense. I was just saying that you are totally blinded if you think that simply because she advertized in the paper means her employees did not SOMETIMES provide sexual favors.

Posted by: Joseph | May 3, 2007, 12:31 am 12:31 am

Hence her lawsuit against those ladies she employeed for violating their employment agreement and engaging in illegal activity. Read the entire story – you are going to have a hard time in a case if you select your point to fight – I would have loved to oppose you.
If her employees did SOMETIMES provide sexual favors, why do you feel the world is entitled to the names of ALL of the clients given you have no clue who engaged in illigal activity.
The world has moved beyond witch hunts, public hangings, etc.
PS – I agree with outing the names of those who have been verified in illegal activity.

For all you Libs out their trying to justify this as a Republican/Conservative scandal because they are the ones who make such restrictive laws…get a clue.
Jeane Palfrey is charged inder the RICO statutes enacted in 1970 by a DEMOCRATIC controlled Congress (both House and Senate) and signed into law by Nixon. She was running a criminal organization. If you don’t like the laws…petition the new DNC Congress and get the law changed. Until then, enforce the Laws.
Of course, as soon as the DC Chief for ABC News is found to be on the list they (ABC) will suddenly become hypersensitive to the need for privacy and not tainting the Jury Pool.

I am so disgusted by the way this case has been handled. If you are going to make an example of her, but not the johns, you’ve done nothing to stop this from happening again. Why trash her, when she was performing a service that the men obviously lined up to get. If the men get to say “It was just for massage” and get a pass, then she should to. Otherwise, the case should be handled “To Catch a Predator” style, where public shame and humiliation is the biggest deterrent. Release the names! Then you might get some true reform. I hope ABC has the guts to do it.

I’ll be surprised if any dems, let alone high-profile types will be outted by ABC News. Not because they don’t do this sort of thing themselves. Just the underlying tone of this story gives me the impression that it’s politically motivated against republicans.
Having your lawyer try to stop the report does seem more like a democrat thing to do though. Donno if the Rs would try that sort of thing. Just sounds like something a Clinton person would do.

I’m certain Jesus Christ would want this done. Forget that forgiveness stuff. Wow, this is interesting. So, if this suit is successful if one is on the list one only need to turn state’s evidence to keep your name secret.
Hmmm, what about after the trial — will these ‘witnesses’ be kept secret in perpetuity?
Will there be any oversight by the government of the prosecutor to make sure that he does not favor one political party over another when he accepts ‘witnesses’ who will then remained unnamed?
Will there be a scramble by the men and women on the list to become ‘witnesses’?
Is it ethical to protect only the people who cooperate with the prosecution while allowing the others to be named?
Is this not a situation that is wide open to political abuse?

Posted by: Gotham | May 3, 2007, 2:25 am 2:25 am

Unless I’m reading all the documented ‘facts’ of this story wrong, most people posting here are making ill-informed comments.
ABC was not provided a list of names, but a list of phone numbers going back four years. From what I’ve read, there wasn’t a magic ‘black book’ of names like other famous ‘madam’ scandals. ABC has been trying to attach names to these 10-15K numbers. My guess is they are discovering some of the names by either calling the numbers and/or doing reverse look-ups on-line.
Many of these numbers could be dead-ends by now, not found in reverse look-ups, or recycled to someone else, and yes that could mean recycled to a prominent person who actually never did call the escort agency.
Now, for all those complainig about only ‘four years of records, and not all of them’. I would imagine given her own instructions to ‘employees’ to immediately delete all phone records, that she also did the same. If she deleted all her phone bills, she may have requested past bills from her phone company and four years of records may have been all that was available.

Posted by: steelguts | May 3, 2007, 5:05 am 5:05 am

Exposure should be a part of the reporters obligation. Otherwise we can assume that coverups rule the day. The problem is that members of both side of the government will have their careers smeared and their greatest asset squandered; POWER. They will hold on relentlessly. And since they both have losses to this exposure, pressure is doubled.
That is why we have a free press…release it all, every last name they can get…and the truth shall set you free.
If you have nothing to hide, you shouldn’t care. If you are concerned, you ought to be exposed for your behavior. Cowards and cons…let them try to hide behind their lawyers. Toss the names to the air and let them try to collect them…

Posted by: Ty | May 3, 2007, 5:27 am 5:27 am

Unfortunately, it will be a select list of “johns” who are released. I am for all or nothing. 4 years worth of calls is HUGE, however how many names will actually be released. Consider they need to take commercial breaks and only have so much air time. They will have to be choosy.
I personally enjoy a body message (no happy endings however) I pay around $50.00 an hour for one. My local Chiropractor’s office has several message therapists. Never thought about an escort service. Perhaps next time my back hurts and I am out of town?
If its legal its legal. Lets not pre-judge customers simply because they are either rich or powerful. If they engaged in activities that are deemed illegal, crush their nuts, if not lets not attempt to destroy them. The argument that of course they are dirty just doesn’t cut it. If I could afford to have a hot chick give me a message when I was out on the town and its not against the law, I’m all for it.
I think the “Madam” is using a very clever ploy to defend herself from criminal prosecution under the Rico statutes. Remember she is being accused of organized crime and racketeering, not simple prostitution.
I for one won’t be watching the show. I believe it will be just another purpose driven witch hunt where if a glimmer of truth shines thru it is more by accident than design.

If they have cheated on the spouce, girl friend etc. Then the hurt party has a right to know. If the have children then they also have a right to know before they hear it from a classmate. This is a shocking story and ABC YOU NEED TO RUN IT NOW… IF YOU DON’T MAYBE A WDC JUDGE WILL STOP YOU IN KEEPING WITH THE COVERUP’S. So Give it to them ABC and its about time someone get’s something out that is good news. I am sure she did not give it to FOX because they are so anti everyone. As Bill O’Reilly said today Fox is #1. Let’s stick to facts. There’s nothing good about being immoral on either side of the aisle. However, the difference between the two sides is that Randall Tobias did the right thing and resigned. When is the last time you saw a liberal stand up like a man and take responsibility for their immoral actions.

You folks still don’t get it do you. No one controls the media. The media controls you. They have become the “big brother” you all fear. They give you half the truth and half the facts, all the time. They add to thier reporting, plenty of inuendo and lots of facial expression with an occasional rolling of the eyes. This is done to gain ratings and increase profit. Keeping groups of Americans pitted against each other makes for exciting news. And you all love to flock to the latest news stories to find out who is “out to get you”. Anyone who “calls” the media out on this, is smeared and slandered. Me, I came from a “news” background. I just sit back and laugh. The pen is mightier than the sword!

About 10 years ago we were told that someone’s personal life has no bearing on his or her public life. My how things have changed. Having said that, I say release the names. What elected officials do speaks volumes about their stand on certain issues. I believed the same 10 years ago, btw.

The sad thing is they should just make prostitution legal and get this out of the way lol. Maybe we should send her “escort” service to Iraq to “service” our troops!!! I really dont see why this is big news. Prostitution should be legal. It makes far more sense for a man to vist these ladies than to start up an affair and eventually destroy their marriage. With a pro it’s pay as you go and no embarrassing phone calls to the wife. Of course men go to escorts, worldwide, and there is no reasonable country that penalizes that except us.

It seems, if one can believe the internet, that the BIG story is just hype, and only 2 names will be added to the one man already “outed”. This makes one think that either the list did not contain the names of people that ABC wanted to smear, or that it contained the names of those ABC wanted to protect. I suppose ABC could get Dan Rather to do this piece to give it even more cradability.

Posted by: Darwin Bonaparte | May 3, 2007, 9:34 am 9:34 am

And here’s more to discourage the outraged liberal moralists –
“Part of the reason why the “20/20” segment may end up being so tame is that there were serious discussions within ABC News over the legal and ethical questions involved in identifying men on Palfrey’s client list. Questions such as: What makes a public figure a public figure (and worthy of mention on the broadcast)? Does merely having your phone number appear in Palfrey’s phone records prove that you used her service? What if you called Palfrey’s service only for a massage (as Tobias claims) or female companionship? How can the network prove that sex actually took place? And is ABC being used by Palfrey to do her dirty work?”

ABC already released a couple of Republican names. It would be the height of hypocrisy to not release ALL the names. Wives, husbands – whoever. I think everything should be legalized. Why not legalize, drugs (alcolhol/tobacco are already), prostitution, or whatever. If its a consenting adult, who cares. Let them make their own choices. That is what liberty is about.
But… don’t force what you think is right down my throat or on to my children. If I don’t think its right, I don’t think its right. Its none of your business if I think that way because I follow a faith system. Maybe I don’t think its right because it destroys one’s body, spreads disease, or puts other people at risk to be hurt. Maybe I think that anything unnatural is just wrong.
Anyway… I don’t care about the list. Washington is nothing but a bi-partisan pit of corruption, greed, and selfishness. Nothing will ever change, and nothing will ever get better.
All I can hope for is a huge asteroid to come hurtling in to wipe out the human race. Maybe then people will wake the frack up and realize what a savage, child race we really are. Oh wait! Then it will be too late because of the big rock falling from the sky. Oh well.

There will be plenty of folks on both sides. Some of the “ladies” are probaly well married and/or have careers of interest. But the facts remain – our government chose to go after this women (not rich enough to be a Kerry wife), so let it all out. No one is presumed guilty just because they are on the list – but let them defend themselves as this lady has to defend herself!

I like the comments by so many conservative pundits on the necessity of government carte blanche when it comes to peering into our personal lives and communications. They basically say that if you did nothing wrong than what are you afraid of. The same logic should then appear in the present situation. If you didn’t do anything illegal than what the heck. I’m sure their wives will be understanding. They were just helping some colege kids with their tuition and single moms with their living expenses.

If the number is for pizza delivery, well, I guess that one is probably innocent.

ABC needed to up their ratings anyways and the hype of this list might do the trick. I personally boycott ABC (and most network tv for that matter) as purveyors of ‘toilet tv’. They cater to the lowest common denominator of watcher, rather than trying to raise their viewership to a higher level of sensibility.
No sense telling them to be ashamed of themselves…they have no shame.

Posted by: Radiant Times | May 3, 2007, 10:27 am 10:27 am

Frankenlennon
Its all about the hate because people who do things that other people think are wrong want us to accept it as right.
A good example would be the lady talking to Mrs. McGreevy on Good Morning America this morning that said… the homosexual activist want everyone to accept homosexuals as normal and okay, especially the “faith” community.
Its okay for the left to say and do whatever they want, but the left want the right to live without the freedom of speech, freedom of faith, and freedom to live the way they want.
So if they can bring down the last bit of political power we have, then they can force their lifestyles and way of thinking on us. They want to gag us, and take away our rights.
All I have to say is they can pry my guns and Bible out of my cold, dead fingers.

Anarkhos,
The article does not specify whether the anonymous client was a former employee of the D.C. Madam, only that the client would be a witness in the D.C. Madam’s case against her former employees. This leads me to believe that the client is instead a John. If it were a former employee, as you suggest, the anonymous client would be listed as a defendant rather than a government witness. Regardless, I think we should do some research, out those in politically appointed and elected positions, and spare the rest. Lord knows we have enough moral trumpeting these days–nobody should be the moral arbiter of all.

Yo! Jim!
Bleeding heart liberal here! The only thing you proved with those quotes is that people suspected Saddam had WMD’s and that’s far different than conducting an investigation and presenting false evidence to the UN. Not that the UN is all that great. However, any government is an attempt to bring order to the chaos of human nature.
This administration not only presented false evidence but ALSO then conducted a war incompetently. I really have been on the fence about, “Should we have gone in or should we have not?” I think we should have gone in finally after running into an Iraqi-Kurd young woman. She lived in Iraq during Saddam’s reign. Kurds that were arrested were taken to the desert and given a choice of getting shot in the head or going into a swimming pool. Brace yourself how’s this for a little head game. If you walked into the swimming pool it was fool of an acid that devoured your body. Only the person to be executed didn’t know this. Because sometime Saddam would let people go just to keep them guessing. After learning of this little fact I thought, “It was the right decision to go in, but man, has Bush and his cronies effed up.” We could wipe out Hitler, a far more dangerous character in History. We won the cold war, and yes my bleeding heart liberal self will give credit to the American president that won it – Reagan. He brought the USSR to their knees through an arms build up they couldn’t afford. Fortunately, at the end the USSR had two very good men to lead them, Gorbachev and Yeltsin. So we go against Saddam and can’t rebuild Iraq. We went in without adequate planning or men. We needed to throw everything at Saddam.
But Bush made the fatal mistake that is precedented in History time and time again. Don’t fight a two sided war. We should have went into Afghanistan, finished the job there by getting Bin Laden and stablizing the country. THEN go in and get Saddam. He spread himself too thin and the first rule of fight a battle is about supplying the troops. Our troops have been poorly supplied in both these conflicts.
BTW – I didn’t like Reagan economic policies. Deregulating the banking industry and business has only caused the rich to get richer and the poor poorer. And as every two-bit economist knows: If you don’t have a strong middle class – you don’t have a strong economy. His economic reforms set the stage for the decline of the US. Taxing a strong middle class could have kept a strong military.
signed the two-bit economist

Why not legalize prostitution- controlled by the government- 50% tax and 50% to the owner of the establishment and while we are at it- legalize pot too. We would make enough money to not only pay off the national debt, but end income tax as we know it today. Just like during prohabition- people still got alcohol- and made people like the Kennedy’s rich- legalizing pot and prostitution would clean up the streets too. No more bad drug deals, prostitutes would be given a certificate of health and checked for aids etc. Bill Clinton could be the first secretary of sin commerce.

There is no “list” of names. There is a list of phone numbers. In order to match names ABC is doing something called “data mining.”
Which is kind of odd, as only last year Brian Ross himself is quoted, on this website, with an opinion piece that came out this practice. But of course, that was the government seeking to identify terrorists.
I wonder how many JOURNALIST PHONE NUMBERS are on the list. I guess we’ll never know because there is NO WAY those names would be made public.

You know,
I am really waiting for a true liberal guy to stand up and say,
“Yo, I am single, I don’t ever want to marry and don’t want children. These are my choices as an adult male living in the good ol’US where freedom rings. I don’t believe prostitution should be illegal. I understand that I contacted an escort service. I understand that with an escort service, sex is left up to the discrimination of the lovely lady of the night and the risks of a sexual encounter are between me and the lady. I have no one to lie to and I feel no shame. I am on the list and will gladly testify that Jeane Parfley had no knowledge I was going to try to seduce one of her escorts. Give me my fine for my misdemeanor, suspend my sentence and give me my community service.” and take a stand.
But that’s not going to happen that’s fantasy, can I make a living supplying that fantasy?
NO.
Another fantasy. A Religious Republican stands up and says,
“I committed hypocrisy. I have a loving wife. I had a fantasy I felt she would never grant me. So I weakened and went to an escort agency. I am ashamed of my self, I put her at risk for a STD. I have a lot to work out with my wife and children. I also have a lot of apologizing to do to the tax payers of the United States. I am not worthy of this office. I will gladly testify that Jeane Parfley had no knowledge I was going to try to seduce one of her escorts. My hypocrisy should not be criminalise this woman. May Jesus and God forgive me.”
Bleeding heart liberal self will acknowledge that at least Tobias came close.

“Hi, we are a bunch of sex loving, greedy, selfish pigs. We don’t care that we are on the Madam’s list. We really don’t care about America, the people, our families, or anything else but us.
We like being in Washington because we get to have power, be treated to everything expensive, get lots of money for being the way are, and then don’t give a hoot about the poor, down trodden, and powerless.
Up your’s America. We’ll continue doing what we want, when we want. It doesn’t matter what party you vote for, because we are all the same. Oh yeah, the party system is rigged in our favor anyway.”

Support naming them all! No sex was ionvolved, so where is the problem in naming those who ordered a massage, just like ordering a pizza?

Posted by: mudala | May 3, 2007, 11:31 am 11:31 am

The bottom line in this scandal is that ABC has a bunch of phone numbers that belong to people who may or may not have used this service. The problem for ABC is that, unless they get a confession from any of these people they cannot *prove* that any of their “quarry” actually used the service or used the service illegally. So, the question for ABC becomes “Do we run with these names with no proof that anything illegal — or anything at all — ever came from a phone call?” If they do that, they are faced with ethical and legal problems. Especially the latter.
For all those who are convinced that all those who called or used this service are “moral majority” types, that’s just stupid. And you are as hypocritical as you claim these hypothetical “johns” are. But the power of ideological self-righteousness is overpowering sometimes.
Finally, this whole brouhaha is another symptom, as some others have pointed out, of the media pandering to the lowest cultural denominator — namely those voyeuristic types who take pleasure in witnessing other people’s failings and downfall, while cloaking it in feigned moral outrage.

What truly is sad is everyone on here believes what a lady pimp says. She says she didn’t know her girls were having sex with clients and when she found out she fired them. So the only records that she has is someone paid for a personal escort. Nothing else to it innocent until proven guilty, if this list is released without actual proof of what took place these people will be guilty in the eyes of all Americans, ruining lives of people rich or not.
I am a conservative. Someone earlier stated ABC should publish the list and quit letting bush and his cronies dictate what is put into the news, making themselves look better. It is my understanding that Bush is not well liked in this world. kinda strange considering he dictates over the news media. Well what am I thinking he destroyed the twin towers and New Orleans(extreme sarcasm intended.

If Joe Blow gets arrested for prostitution his name ends up in the newspaper, in some areas on billboards, and even an episode of “COPS”. No reason why the elite and powerful should be treated any differently.

Posted by: mike | May 3, 2007, 11:41 am 11:41 am

Lets destroy a few hundred lives so that the leering public can feel morally superior. A pimp is resorting to blackmail and the ‘morally correct’ are eager to assist. ABC will selectively edit out any of its Democratic allies and we can all have a good time (ala Mark Foley) pontificating about Republican hypocrisy.

Posted by: skep41 | May 3, 2007, 11:46 am 11:46 am

The Liberal Congress and the main stream media work together to feed Americans their version of current events. I am confident that only Republicans names will be leaked. Their goal is political, not news. How would the DNC react when Hillary’s or Reids name appeared on the john list. Try and spin that one liberals.

Posted by: Al | May 3, 2007, 11:46 am 11:46 am

Mike, and others who compare this with guys getting busted for prostitution — those guys get busted because they are caught soliciting. In other words, the cops have proof that they actually engaged in *illegal* behavior. In this case, they don’t. And even if they could prove that illegal behavior took place, I would imagine that for most of them, the statute of limitations for soliciting (a minor offense legally) has well passed for most of these guys anyway.
Finally, most of the posters on this board don’t understand the charges against Palfrey — she is charged under the RICO statutes for running a criminal enterprise. She is not being charged for what her clients may or may have done. And before you feel too sorry for her, she was offered a plea deal that would have required her to serve only 4 months. Rejecting that offer was really stupid, considering the evidence prosecutors have against her. And that evidence will more than outweigh any forced testimony by her clients.
And wouldn’t it be ironic if some fo these guys she outs, and whose lives are ruined, feel like they have nothing to lose and testify that, yes, they did have illegal sex with her employees? Overall, she and her attorney have been too cute by half in this.

Contrary to what liberals want to believe, both parties have corruption in them. It’s not just limited to the conservatives. If ABC is going to name names then it needs to be the democrats as well as the republicans but as we all know the three networks do their best work demonizing the conservatives. They never say anything nasty about the liberals. What’s it going to be this time? Fairness on both sides or just slam the right?

A commodity is a commodity. Make it legal and tax it like everything else. There’s no shame in smoking, drinking or gambling. Why should there be shame in having sex for money. It works both ways for men and women alike.

i think they should only release the names of those who have actually broken the law. this is just a phone list, right? is calling the number a crime? before we start throwing names around, we should make sure we’re throwing the right ones…

Posted by: david | May 3, 2007, 12:32 pm 12:32 pm

To the very first posting from tony… are you honestly saying that this “list” only contains the names of conservatives? that quite possibly is the most niave and partisan assumption ive heard in quite awhile. people from all political persuasions will be on that list.
Frankly, hats off to this chick, if theyre (the gubment) going to play out this hipocritical drama, then make sure all the players come to light, the government has a way of finding lesser-ups to blame for their sins and use as “fall guys”, this is one time that BS isnt going to play out… so let the good times roll.

Posted by: Kess | May 3, 2007, 12:37 pm 12:37 pm

I hate to disappoint some of the posters on here, but I’m pretty certain that the list will contain a combination of liberals AND conservatives. Enough already with your “anti-Administration, he’s not my president, I didn’t elect these hypocrits” talk. This isn’t about politics. ABC wants to release the list for ratings. Plain and simple. I, for one, do not trust any network to edit the list. Show it all (unless ordered by a Court not to list certain names) or don’t show it at all. In the end, let’s remember that this is not entertainment. Actions (good and bad)have consequences, but I feel sorry for the families of these idiots for the public humiliation that will inevitably follow.

Posted by: dmts | May 3, 2007, 12:49 pm 12:49 pm

I think they should air it and reveal everyone on this list. Maybe there will be many members of Congress on it that will have to resign in disgrace and be replaced with people who aren’t career politicians beholden to any party bosses and still in touch with the desires of their constituents. Maybe we’ll get some people there who actually have some principles on which to stand, and not just be there with their hand out to lobbyists and the like to enrich themselves at taxpayer expense!

The names shouldn’t be released at all given the assumption of guilt based on nothing more than phone records.

Many of these comments show people who confirm the fact that there is a double-standard in our society when it comes to Conservatives vs. Liberals. Comments like “those who ran on a moral platform should be exposed and those who did not run on a moral platform should remain private” is basically saying that if I agree with your ideology you can stay private, but if I disagree with your ideology, you should be exposed. I happen to believe that there is one standard for all. Fair treatment means all or none are exposed (all the way back to 1993). I wouldn’t give a plugged nickel for ABC’s censorship of the list, selecting who is outed and who is not. Since ABC is a liberal organization, obviously it would be high-ranking conservatives (if there are any more on the list). I seriously doubt they would relesae certain high ranking liberals, if there are any on the list. As a conservative, I personally would want ALL exposed, including top Republicans, if they are on it, but only if going all the way back to 1993 when it was started. However, being in law enforcement, I also know that the agency having your phone number could be the result of a misdialed number or other plausible explanation. The telephone numbers do not indicate which person made the call, just the subscriber of the number (unless it was specifically from a client list). It also does not indicate that the person ever met with anyone or even paid a dime for a massage or sex or anything.

Posted by: Mike | May 3, 2007, 1:57 pm 1:57 pm

Palfrey should have handed over the list to an independent news organization that is not beholden to anyone in the government. ABCNews will try to report a “fair and balanced” list to be safe, and out an equal number of dems and republicans, even if the list is much more of one party than the other. Give us percentages!!!!!

Why do so many of the posters on this site assume that the Bush administration is more worried about this than the Dems? After all, the Dems have a “former” Klansman in a major position of power in the Senate, they have Barney Frank, whose apartment was once used to RUN a male prostitution ring, and Mr. “Cold Cash” Jefferson, from Louisiana, in the House, as well as the lurid legacy of sexual, alcohol, and drug indiscretions of both the Clintons and the Kennedys. (Only heaven knows why. I don’t find him attractive but a LOT, I mean a LOT, of my female friends do. It is uncanny.) Whoever this lot is on the phone records that actually patroned the service were losers that need to pay. My boyfriend can take me out for a night on the town for less. To Lee;
One suspects the right wing is more concerned about this than the left because the right wing has claimed, is claiming, and will likely continue to claim, a self-righteous “higher moral ground” than the left. Decrying the immorality of others, and making personal sexual conduct a yardstick of fitness [to serve], leaves one open to more damage when one’s own pecadilloes hit prime time.

The problem with Josh’s proposal to legalize prositution because it is “human nature” is that there are many things that our sinful human nature may desire but that are ultimately harmful to both society and the individual. The decision to visit a brothel may seem like an act that has no consequences beyond that of the individual involved but, in fact, sexual relations outside of marriage (paid for or not) have serious consequences to society (divorce, disease, drug use, single parent homes, poverty, increased crime, etc.). I know that people get tired of what they see as self righteous moralizing by so-called “Bible thumpers” but God Himself has laid down these prohibitions not to take the fun out of life but to make life better, to protect us, and to make life MORE joyful. People who go to a prostitute have a serious problem in their relationships with both God and others. Just like those who seek refuge in drugs or alcohol, they are trying use a quick and empty thrill to temporarily deaden the pain in their lives. It is like trying to patch the cracks in the second floor walls in an attempt to “fix” flaws in the house’s foundation. Ultimately, the cracks just get worse and worse because the real problem is never faced.

Before I started reading comments on blogs and news sites, I naively thought there was some hope for the world. But how can a democracy work with an electorate like the sample above?
Here’s what I realized one day several years ago. How often does it happen that someone examines all sides of some policy question and then thoughtfully concludes that the way best to proceed for all concerned is even slightly different from the way that’s best for the thinker personally?
If people were rational this would be common but in reality it basically doesn’t happen. Everybody rationalizes such that whatever is best and most comfortable for them personally seems best overall. And they will argue for it energetically.

Posted by: lou | May 3, 2007, 4:16 pm 4:16 pm

The list should not be posted, period. Why? Because there are too many unknowns. For public officals, it’s just as damaging to be falsly accused as to be found guily of such a crime. It would be irresponsible for a news network to list names without proper & indisputible evidence those individuals participate in illegal activity.

Doesn’t matter which side of the party line they fall on, the legislators should have no more immunity from disclosure in this case than any John Doe—who would, by the way, have no chance in hell of not being disclosed. If they are clean in the first place, they shouldn’t be trying to hide the truth. Always has been too much ego and too much lying in Congress. I say “give ‘em hell,” publish the list for everyone to see whose lying and who isn’t.

I say publish them all. But considering how rabidly left-winged ABC News is do you really think they’re going to publish any names of prominent liberals, the hands that feed them? Not a chance, they must protect their own. You are a fool to think that all the names on this list are conservatives. That is the absurdity of all of this. All they care about is destroying anyone who is favorable to President Bush, it’s their template. Men who patronize prostitutes are despicible…name them all or don’t name any. Wishful thinking I know.

It’s ironic that many of these guys who use escorts are so ugly that no sane women would want to have sex with them anyway and that certainly includes politicians. So, patriachy created esocort systems and other systems because they wouldn’t get laid at all. Patriachy sure is interested to underpay women, keep them socially inferior, no matter how much they study (it’s freaking hard to pay the bills these days) to such an extend that the needs of ugly men will always be met. As a result, there maybe never be equality therefore.
Legal escort service, buwahahahaha! The system works well for these dickheads patriachs.
I sure love men, but not hypocrits!

A couple of points -
Not everyone in DC is a politician. Only relevant because many on this list seem to think that only politicians are going to be publicly tarred.
Anyone mentioned will be assumed to be guilty of soliciting a prostitute whether they did or not. If an abortion clinic illegally performed services, it would be highly unlikely that we would all be screaming to have ABC release a list of clients. While it is likely that the customers were using the service to hire prostitutes, the prosecutors most likely only have evidence in a handful of cases.
We have all purchased something that we don’t want to be made public (could be porn, could be Preparation H, could be a book on topic A, B or C).

Great job Ok! The federal government needs to get tougher on this INVASION, on our southern border. The illegals should be given 90 days to sell their assets and get out. After which time if they stay, they should have their assets confiscated and be charged with a felony, a year in jail, and deportation with no hope of obtaining legal status in this country. A second offense should be five years mandatory followed by deportation. Also all free healthcare, and taxpayer benefits should be removed.

Those articles gave much insight into the personality of Palfrey and make one question her reliability with regard to tendancies to embellish the facts far beyond the edges of the envelope.
Apparently, she is a paranoid ex-confict with a history of stalking given to illustions of granduer. I hope not too many people will become victims of this “looney-tunes” character.

The real story here is the connection between K Street/Abramoff types using lobbying/PAC money to provide sexual favors via services like Pamela Martin Associates to prominent politicians and political appointees to get them to vote or craft policy that benefitted their clients. This is what Carol Lam was investigating Dusty Foggo (#3 at CIA) for, and the reason she was fired. That is why the majority intuitively know that this scandal is more GOP than DEM; the GOP over the last 6 years have perfected the corruption of our elections, legislation and the politicization of government activities for partisan gain. I am sure that there are DEMs involved, but the impetus was the nexus of Rove, Abramoff, and obscene amounts of lobbying money to corrupt our political process and government agencies.
Regarding the ridiculous “I just got a massage” defense; why would someone pay $300 for an “escort” to massage them when a legitimate, licensed massage therapist charges about $100 for the real deal?

Assuming that there is absolutely no doubt about any of the information provided and reviewed, it would be enormously entertaining political theatre if ABC chose to release the names of those persons who appeared in Madame Palfrey’s lists.
America might even ultimately learn a few things from the spectacle and obtain an education about:
1. The origins of sex addiction for men and women (i.e., shame, shame, and more shame);
2. How a session actually works (i.e., distorted narcissistic perception allowing the man to think the “show” is for and about him/the escort’s equally narcissistic desire to be in control of getting attention);
3. The cure for sex addiction (i.e, the elimination of shame and the return to ordinary, every day desire. Sorry, the shame based cures of the religious right would not be useful here).

One thing is always that one of the most prevalent incentives for using your cards is a cash-back or rebate provision. Generally, you’ll have access to 1-5% back in various buying. Depending on the credit cards, you may get 1% again on most purchases, and 5% back on purchases made using convenience stores, filling stations, grocery stores and also ‘member merchants’.
