The Pizza Connection; Easy Access to Fort Dix
The six men charged with planning an attack to kill several hundred U.S. soldiers at Fort Dix, N.J., thought they would have easy access to the base by pretending to deliver pizzas. In a criminal complaint filed this morning, an FBI agent writes that "SERDAR TATAR’s father owned a restaurant near Fort Dix and made deliveries onto the base." The father, owner of Super Mario’s Restaurant, told ABCNews.com today that his staff often made pizza deliveries on to the base and to the nearby McGuire Air Force Base. The complaint says Tatar was able to acquire a map of Fort Dix, labeled "Cantonment Area Fort Dix, N.J.," and gave it to the five other men arrested by the FBI. Officials say the map was used by pizza delivery men to find their way around the base. According to the complaint, Tatar "described a place at Fort Dix they could target that would cause a power outage and allow for an easier attack on the military personnel there." "What we are witnessing here is kind of a brand new form of terrorism," said J.P. "Jody" Weis, the special agent in charge of the FBI’s Philadelphia field office, at an afternoon press conference. "They operate under the radar…they strike when they feel it is right whenever that might be." Video Officials Call Fort Dix Terror Plot ‘a Brand New Form of Terrorism’ Tatar’s father told ABCNews.com he talked to his son only yesterday, and there was no indication of anything unusual, no indication that his 24-year-old son harbored a deep hatred of the United States. "There’s something wrong here," the father said. "I came here from Turkey in 1992, and this is my country. I love this country." He said his son had not worked at the restaurant for at least a year, and he believed his son was working at a 7-11 convenience store in Philadelphia. The criminal complaint tells a much different story, describing Tatar as suspicious of the FBI’s undercover operative who infiltrated the group. Last November, Tatar allegedly contacted a sergeant in the Philadelphia police department to check the name of the undercover informant. The complaint quotes Tatar as telling the undercover operative, "Whether you are or not (FBI), I’m gonna do it. Know why? It doesn’t matter to me, whether I get locked up, arrested or get taken away, it doesn’t matter. Or I die, doesn’t matter, I’m doing it in the name of Allah." "Allah Akbar," meaning "God is great," was a phrase the men arrested knew well. According to the federal complaint, an investigation was launched 17 months ago after a photo shop clerk alerted authorities to a video brought in by one of the suspects with "disturbing" content on it. The video "depicted 10 young men who appeared to be in their 20s shooting assault-style weapons at a firing range in militia-like style while calling for jihad and shouting in Arabic, ‘Allah akbar,’" the federal complaint says. The investigation, through electronic eavesdropping and the confidential informant who had infiltrated the group, soon determined the men were serious in their intent to attack a military base using automatic weapons. The plot never reached an operational phase, but the alleged cell members had finished their surveillance and selected Fort Dix as their target. Tatar, along with Mohamad Ibrahim Shnewer, 22, Eljvir Duka, 23, Dritan Duka, 28, and Shain Duka, 26, is charged with "plotting to kill as many soldiers as possible" in an armed assault on Fort Dix. The sixth man, Argon Abdullahu, 24, was arrested on related charges of aiding and abetting the possession of illegal firearms. Shnewer, regarded as the group’s ringleader, said he wanted to kill at least 100 soldiers. "My intent is to hit a heavy concentration of soldiers…This is exactly what we are looking for. You hit four, five or six Humvees and light the whole place [up] and retreat completely without any losses," he was recorded as saying. Shnewer, who was born in Jordan, is employed as a Philadelphia cab driver. Eljvir, Dritan and Shain Duka are brothers, all of whom were born in the former Yugoslavia and are illegally residing in the U.S. They run a roofing business together. Abdullahu was also born in the former Yugoslavia and is employed at a Shop-Rite Supermarket. As for Super Mario’s Restaurant, its chef, Joseph Hofflinger, 35, quit today after finding out the news that the restaurant’s owner was the father of one of the suspected terrorists. Video See the Chef and Hear in His Own Words Why He Quit When asked by reporters as to why he quit, Hofflinger said, "Because I won’t work for somebody that has any ties or admission to terrorists." He continued, "My son is in the 82nd Airborne. I won’t work for a place that supports terrorism so I’m out." This post has been updated.

Why isn’t it mentioned that these were Jihadists???? No mention of radical Islam except for the last sentence linking them to Allah…. THIS is why we don’t take our news from ABC. On GMA they were identified as Albanian… FACE the facts. They are jihadists intent on doing harm to US military. THIS should be story number ONE

I feel we should not spend the time and money for a lengthy trial. try them and get it over, we don’t need to support them for the rest of their life.

Great reporting, except you conveniently forgot to include weather these terrorist were here illegally or not. Nice!
I think based upon on current social climate it would be beneficial to concerned citizens that you would include this information, don’t you think? Unless the editorial climate for your network is more interested in protecting the rights of Illegals then protecting US citizens. Your bias will no longer go unnoticed. Also it should not take a concerned citizen to ask the right questions and get the information that is most beneficial to the public.
Oh yeah just in case you were concerned (which I doubt) 3 of the men were here illegally.
Very disappointed

I did my basic training on that base back in the mid 80′s. I remember back then getting a pizza delivered only to have the drill sergeant take it from us because it was contraband. But you couldn’t get off that base much less get on to it. To think that we have such big holes in our security on our bases is scary. I could only imagine how big of a massacrer this could have been had not an attentive clerk not noticed the video.
I’m sure our soldiers on our various bases will no longer be able to have pizza delivered to them…

Susan..the Islamic connection was not mentioned because it does not the fit the ‘Drive By Media’ template. The DBM template is that Bush is the cause of all terrorism and the poor terrorists are just victims of US aggression.

The Ethnic Albanian identity of the Islamic terrorists in this storyis going to be burried very quickly because the US is pushing for these same Islamic radicals to have Independence in Serbia’s Kosovo. The US is acting like it is afraid of these people. Something smells VERY bad here. These people are our enemies by their own choosing yet we are acting like they are good. Watch how this gets burried, IMMEDIATELY!

OK, they believe in their version of Allah. Here in the US, we have Christians who blow up other Americans, in the name of JESUS. The latest school shooting starred a fella who compared himself to JESUS! Should we lock up all the good Christians now? This is about despair and rage, not GOD. Lets address the real problem and stop being ignorant.

The plot failed because too many people were involved and one turned in the others. 9/11 should have also failed because it was an intricate plan with many players, but the authorities were caught totally offguard. One lunatic, like the Va. Tech killer, has a much greater chance of success than a group that has to share their plans with others.

I enjoyed reading many of the comments in regards to this situation and if these individuals are truly terrorists, then it’s a great thing that we stopped them! However, I am quite reserved with radical comments of shooting to kill these people and the advocacy of violating our laws in bypassing the legal process as it is the best safeguard in getting truth to the public and protecting the integrity of our republic. The fact is, we lock up too many people (over 700,000 people arrested for marijuana for simple possession in 2006) and we chould have much more space in jail for real criminals. Our nation has compromised it’s values of justice and liberty for chains of security by the patriot act and many other obscure powers that were never intended for the government to behold. We are not being defeated by a small fringe group of terrorists, but rather within by ineffective leadership who sell fear and not empower the people to unite to watch together. Also, my concerns are deep in regards to our federal and local governments because on the federal level, we attack and overthrow a government in Iraq without articles of war which is also another violation of the Constitution and upon the voice of reason. I hope and pray that America wakes up and demands the cowards who run our country to step down. We need new leadership and people of character who will be honest to the people and lead the world by peace than by violent assertions.

This is pure and simple a matter of illegal entry and terrorism. This is what the press and the liberals did not want. Now you have a border being crossed by terrorists and that scares everyone. We all knew it was going to happen. Not if, just when. Now lets see the illegals march in the streets. I don’t think there is alot of sympathy anymore.Matter of fact this might just wake up everyone, we are in serious danger.HERE!

Here’s a wake-up for the poster that said: “9/11 should have also failed because it was an intricate plan with many players, but the authorities were caught totally offguard.” — Moussoui was caught 8/14/01 or a FULL month before 9/11. France, Russia, Isreal, Germany etc. AND our own Minnesota FBI BEGGED to interrogate him, only OUR GOV’T was ON VACATION for ALL of August, taking it easy after 7 months on the job.. THAT’s why 9/11 wasn’t foiled.

All people who came from the middle east in the last 15 years need to be checked out closely. If they show they have a hatred for our country then they should go back to the country they came from. We should not be tolerant of people who are hear using our resources and hate us…

I hope there is a wake up call in all of this. If al qaeda were to begin targeting our homeland, we’re no where close to being prepared.
The recent mall shooter was a radical islamist from the Balkans.
Too many people in this country, and worse, in our government are in denial.
They’re at war with us, it appears we’re not at war with them.
We need to change our immigration approach and stop importing our enemy.
It’s time for the democrats to stop acting like sleazy politicians and start acting like leaders in war time.
Better yet, we all need to stop voting them in to office and we don’t need to worry about whether they change. They can go join the enemy at that point for all I care.
The answer lies in all of us, it’s time to start doing the right thing. Support leaders who understand what we face.

CNN has reported that several of the six are ILLEGAL ALIENS. Many of the other media don’t want to mention that fact..why? Because our illustrious Senators like Kennedy, Reid, Specter are about to reintroduce an illegal alien AMNESTY bill that would allow virtually all 12-20 million illegal aliens currently present with immediate temporary residency, amnesty from prosecution or deportation and a path to citizenship. Let’s not forget that the good Senators also want us to provide them with amnesty for all the identity theft/fraud felonies many have committed in order to work here illegally. Let’s not forget they also want to let them have access to social security and even in-state college tuition benefits not universally available to all U.S. citizen students. SECURE THE BORDER, ENFORCE THE LAW, NO AMNESTY, NO TEMPORARY RESIDENCY, NO PATH TO CITIZENSHIP. Enough is enough.

I am strictly agnostic but don’t think my Born Again neighbors are plotting to attack a Base or are taking flying lessons. The most important point is WHAT IF THIS REALLY TOOK PLACE? It would be another mini 9/11 in a US military base, at home. It would be painful and humiliating and cause us to be reactionary.

Mike Mundy,
All religions are the problem. People are killing each other over ancient books and beliefs which should not survive an elementary school education.
The only difference between fundamentalist islamics and the majority of the christians in this country is that the islamics ACTUALLY BELIEVE what they read in their holy books.
Read the old testament and tell me how peaceful christianity is.
“Christianity preachs total peace and even love of your enemies” – 800 years or so of the inquisitions?

Very scary… I live 2 seconds down the street from Fort Dix. Worked on base during 9/11 as well.
When 9/11 happened, the base shut itself down for several days until they could tighten security (before 9/11 you could drive through Fort Dix without being stopped to show ID… you didn’t even have to be military to pass through). Prior to 9/11, the base wasn’t technically operating… at one point the barracks were being used to house Kosovo refugees. So, it was quite a project for them to upgrade security… it’s 1000 times more secure now than it was then. It’s just ashame that now they even have to worry about getting food delivered (there are next to no food choices available on base which is why most chose to order off base).
Now Fort Dix is being converted to a Megabase… obviously making it more of a target. Luckily, this plot was able to be halted… but it really makes me wonder if this is just a glance of things to come.

Some good points being made. However, sad to say there are obviously some bleeding heart types as well who seem to sympathize with these extremists. It’s not hard to see why the U.S. could have problems trying to stop these nut cases when you have individuals siding with them and helping them out in some way or another. I see more than a few “sympathizers” who could be in for a very rude awakening if they are not extremely careful where they place their priorities. These nut cases will use any and all methods at their disposal to meet their goal and that includes eliminating anyone who might have knowledge of what they intend to do.

Look folks, the bottom line is this…. You can fool the American people some of the time, but not all of the time. The fact is is that there are nut case Jihadists out there to do us harm. So much so, they will dies themselves in order to kill Americans. So my point is, that unless the Democrats WAKE FREAKIN UP! They will get their ASSES kicked in 2008. This issue will not go away and the safety and protection of the American people in our own backyards will be the dominating issue in the elections. Whenever Hillary or Obama open their mouths, watch their brains fall out. They are too hell bent on destroying Bush and the “War on Terror”, that it will defeat them in November ’08!

Andrew, you’re comments are stupid. If you’re going to make broad historical statements, at least support them with a relevant example. Simply saying, “fact” does not prove it. Who says you are a credible source? Maybe you should learn a bit about making a historical argument before you start claiming history as a base for your argument.

4of the suspects are Albanians from the Serbian province of Kosovo and Metohija. Initially the media were reluctant to write their identity and referred to them as “Yugoslav nationals”. That’s what they do when the perpetrators of a crime are not Serbs. Just to hide the truth from the American people that we bombed the wrong side in 1999, when Clinton, trying to deflect attention from his sex scandals, decided to bomb a friendly Christian nation – Serbs.

well, after millions of wiretaps the feds discover a new terrorist plot after a copyguy turns them in. I’m proud to see our new policies are working! Of course the fact that a few illegal muslim immigrants are roaming around Jersey didn’t get anyone’s attention is a bit disconcerting, but Go FEDS!

Illegal immigration isn’t a problem? Pull your heads out of the sand. If this happens once, it is to many times. When are we going to stop illegal immigration? When soldiers die here or when families die in shopping malls? Good catch FEDS!

We let the Genie Out of the Bottle in 1999, bombing Yugoslavia for the wrong reason and bringing Genie here.
It’s convenient to plot anything in US as there are a lot of people like those who got just arrested.

Tatiana, Didn’t they say they wanted to kill soldiers headed to Iraq (among other targets considered)? Ft. Dix is a stopover for many troops heading out. How many soldiers from Ft Dix were involved with the Nato bombing? Didn’t the father of one say they had been in the US before the Kosovo war? Wasn’t it the phase “Allah Akbar” that led to the tip? Whatever it is you do, I don’t believe it is detective work.

Ethnic Albanians are invariably Muslim, as was the youthful terrorist who shot up the mall in Utah recently. Didn’t know he was Muslim? They buried that information quickly didn’t they? That is because the US was duped into “saving” the ethnic Albanian Muslims and their Al Qaeda cohorts in Bosnia/Serbia. With US help most of the Christian Serbs have been ethnically cleansed from Bosnia, the historic churches are systematically being desecrated and destroyed and more jihadist fighters are being trained and infiltrated into Iraq to murder our troops and even other Muslims. Our government went in on the wrong side in Bosnia. The post WW 2 Nuremberg Trials lasted 9 months, the trial of Milosevic went on for 4 years and still failed to prove Serbian genocide of the ethnic Albanians. We have sown to the wind and are reaping the whirlwind.

It is time for fathers to take a wider role in their childrens life. In other words, fathers who come here from other countries with moslem faith should be aware that the Jihade or terrorist are looking for the young men and brain washing them to do their dirty work. Mothers need to unite, we mothers need to unite all over the world. Demand peace, demand dialogue. We are many, men are few and mothers are stronger willed not easy to fool, men are. This kind of ignorance is seen even in our own American culture. “Oh no, not my son” “Oh, I don’t understand?”, well wake up fathers because this is a new world order and the order for today is to kill. Moslums unite, change the attitute while you can. Fathers must take a wider role in knowing what their young sons are doing. check in just like we ask our kids to check in. Its getting to the point where Service personnel will be targeted no matter where they are at. Its time to change the way we do business in those areas. But it is also time for mothers to march for peace. To change what has not changed. Mothers all over the world, unite, peace walk, march together against the hatred in which men are showing. Even here in our own country. We must show love and compassion but also insist and put our foot down, enough is enough. Mothers everywhere, go on strike, walk, march for peace where ever you are. To all those who keep comparing Islam and Christianity go do some reading. Before you defend Islam, read the Koran. Only in a book as sacred as the Koran will you find specific instructions on the proper size of a stone to be used to stone an individual (see stoning of women/honour stonings). All religions do indeed have extremists. Islam just seems to have a ton more. One Muslim going into a university in Baghdad and shooting 30 students would be buried on page 2. Another difference: the Christians committing these acts are extreme nutjobs; the Muslims in Iraq who blow themselves up on a daily basis are not insane at all; they are merely following the guidance of Islam, the religion of peace. “Islam” means submission. The Koran says peace will not be achieved until the installation of the caliphate/Sharia law and the world submits to Islam. So stand by and defend them, enjoy your stoning.

Exactly when would you decide its necessary to fight to defend your country? law enforcement IS fighting
We know for a fact from our enemy that this is their stated goal. Lots of crazies have said the same for years.
you don’t sacrifice liberty for security and you want to use education and law enforcement that works better than the trillion dollar quagmire in iraq which is making matters worse.

After experiencing alot of less than admirable circumstances, I hardly believe that the overall majority of Christians including myself that you refer to are the “terrorists” we are fighting much less that anyone else is worrying about. Question: Are you an atheist, a radical Islamic fundamentalist, a Communist, a Socialist, or just a left-wing knee-jerk liberal? U guys have no idea what u are talking about…I have lived for a while in the Balkans and Kosovo which is 90% Albanian…Albanians are our number one ally in the Balkans. Just because there might be a few Albanians that want to do harm, just like there is on any other country, that doesn’t make Albanians terrorists. Besides, the population in Albania and Kosovo is not entirely mmuslim. There is about 30% Christians. I have always said that we were right to bomb the Serbs in the 90s and will say again because I have been there during the Yugoslav wars and have personally seen the genocide and massacres committed by the Serbian army and paramilitary forces. Dave J.- Unless you are in the military, watch yer mouth pal. I have many members in my family that have served proudly in the armed forces here so that you can spout your back handed comments about the military (e.g. reduced entry requirements, etc.). If you do like the freedoms of speech that the military paid the ultimate price to ensure that you can exercise, at least do these people a favour and do not spit in their faces. Better yet, I suggest you spend extended time living under a totalitarian regime overseas, engage in some free discussion, and then tell us how bad it is to be in America now.

Finaly the police the secret services and everybody who gets paid to protect this country have done their job well if not excellent. Having in mind the success that the British police had in operation Crevice (not so long ago) this is actually 2:0 for the good guys !! But there is one thing that bothers me.
I can’t understand why the media here in the States is trying so desperately to hide the nationality of these terrorist by using the confusing geographical location “Former Yugoslavia”. These men are Albanians from the southern Serbian province of Kosovo (together with one Turkish national). All of them are muslims and in the so called “Former Yugoslavia” they comprised a minority (only 8% of the population) while the rest of the nations were (and still are) Christians
(Croats,Serbs,Slovenes,Montenegrans,Macedonians etc.). I am afraid that something else is happening here. The media and officials are highly embarrased because these are the same people they helped 8 years ago when Serbia was bombed during the attempt by the Albanians to secede this Serbian southern province. How history tends to repeat itself
( anyone remember Afghanistan !!!!!!)

Radical Islamists are a cancer! It really doesn’t matter what country they come from. There are SOME African-Americans here in the good USA who traditionally were brought up in the Christian faith at one time, but some have turned their back on Christianity for “Allah”. I have noticed this trend like it is a fad. Look at Faracon- talk about a hater of Christians and Jews! Americans only want to keep vigilant of extremists and terrorists. Muslims are killing women and children in Darfur-do you think the media will say why there is so much killing there? Not!

The notion that you can convert people in to Islam by threats or acts of violence is a joke. How long do you want to subjugate your women, your children and us infidels in the name of Islam?
Who is the victim here? Muslims or non-Muslims?
All you proud muslim women who wear the veil are offering gateway to this kind of terrorism. You need to take off your veil and burn your bras. Then only your men will understand the catestrophic atrocities that they are indulging in the name of Islam. It is only a matter of time these atrocities will turn against you and your children.

Mark Wahlberg (love the way you hide behind an actor’s name rather than a variant of your own), if you want to see the rampant anti-Christian sentiment in Moslem countries, try and open a business there and say you are a Christian. Watch the unfair taxes that you have to pay because of your faith as well as the possible violence waged against you as well as bias. These stories are not hard to find if you Google them or talk to people when you travel to that region. And “jihad” is a word used by Mohammed, that pragmatic, pro-gay, pro-women, religous leader.

When the Left forced withdrawal in Vietnam and the South soon were faced with invasion what proceeded from that was something close to 3 MILLIONN people slaughtered for being things like Doctors! That is the international left at its core. That blood is on the hands of the same leftist who are leading the forth column in our country and internationally against the war in Iraq.
Those who were freed because of American efforts in the Cold War (including Vietnam) should be consulted as to the relevance of international leftist action to better individual lives.
To conflate Christians in this country with Islamic Jihadists is the most ignorant reactionary disingenuous turn of thought that one could make given the evidence everyday in news source from around the world.
Obviously if these men entered the country from the Mexican boarder then the issue of illegal immigration is important to the story. That boarder needs to be shut… then we can talk about what happens to the illegals here. Bush has not done so for 6.5 years and votes are the reason… so I can not excuse him.

I remember how Henry Kissinger at that time (he opposed the war) said that during the civil war in Kosovo about 2,000 people died from both sides. For some reasons (!!!) Clinton’s administration called it genocide and took the Albanian side. The result now: almost all Serbs are kicked out from their land. If that is what Clinton wanted, then he got it.
But we are paying for his decision now

I think the American government should review some of their policies, when it comes to dealing with those from the
Middle East and otherwise. They know they’re being watched, so they take their time while planing, they don’t rush. they plant families like you plant spies, and this families live a normal life and blend in with the society, they live a trouble free life that condiuts their mission(terror). You’ll only get to know who they realy are when they perpertrate the acts that they’re known for. Some of them are were asigned to help spread islam in America, build Mosques, thereby setting a platform for terrorist orgnisations. It may take them years but they don’t care, cause thats their best weapon. We can avoid this only if we do the right thing and on time.

But if they get hold of Americans they butcher them like cows. American had the chance to kill Osama, but they considered him being a priest and what his host would have thought. Why?.

I am of Puerto Rican and Italian decent my parents both born in US. I do not fly Italian and Puerto Rican (I know Puerto Rico is an American Territory) flags on my rear view mirror. I love my country America. Why do you hate us so much?
Why come here if you hate us? I don’t get it.

Maybe ABC News should have a special day called “Hug a Islamofacist Beheader Day.” I’m sure it would be far more acceptable to the lawwwwwyers at ABC News than something evil like “Celebrate White Inventors’ Day” or “Celebrate Jonas Salk Day,” etc. Farrrrr more acceptable.

I am disappointed with the media reporting errors stated as facts. Today it was reported that a group of young men allegedly had intentions of attacking Fort Dix. The men were reported as Albanians from the former Yugoslavia. The problem is that Albanians are not one group. There are several ethnic groups of Albanians considered as a whole. I would appreciate it be made clear that the fact that they are Macedonian Albanians does not reflect on all ethnic Albanian belief. They have always considered themselves apart from the rest of the ethic Albanian groups. Altogether, it was unnecessary to mention that they are Albanian. It is difficult enough to make the world understand that Albanians do not share the views of those whom mean harm. My brother, who was born and raised in New York, was actually confronted today regarding the fact that those men were referred to as Albanian. His friends called them “your people”. The only response my brother was able to give is “They’re not my people.” It feels like a deliberate action made by the media in order to give their terrorists a name. All I ask is to make it clear or not mention it at all.

Mark–Review Second Sudanese Civil War. Northern Islamic Arabs killed and starved almost 2 million Christian and Non-Christians in the 80′s and 90′s. They insisted on Sharia Law(sever limbs, stoning for offenses) and finally suceeded with Saddam’s and Osama Bin Laden’s help. Those who oppose the Iraq war should also review the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998, which President Clinton signed into law.

Dear PAB,
I am neither Albanian nor Serb, I am American and I love my country… I just jumped to the conversation because i saw some Serbs taking advantage of the story and making Albanians look bad. I know for a fact that Albanians don’t hate us they are our number one ally. I know so because I have been there and Albania has committed its own troops on the war against the terror in Iraq and Afghanistan… There is only a handful of people who want to do harm in every country, just like there is in ours and they should be punished for it. They don’t represent the view of all Albanians and not all of them were Albanians, some of them were Turks and Jordanians…

Read the old testament and tell me how peaceful christianity is.
“Christianity preachs total peace and even love of your enemies” – 800 years or so of the inquisitions?
Adam,
First, the Old Testament is the book of Jewish and Muslim believers; Christians are defined by the New Testament.
Second, the Inquisition lasted from 1476 to 1834. During that time, somewhere between 3,000 and 5,000 people were executed. In other words it was 360 years, not 800 years, and all the tribunals in that time barely equaled 9/11.
Lastly, what does what happened 500 years have to do with this incident? Your comments are irrational and bigoted. There is no reason to attack Christians.

For those of you who believe that Islam has no relation to Christianity, the Koran is based on the Bible as well as the Torah. And for those who think only the Koran describes violent instructions, have you read the Old Testiment? Obviously not. Terrorism is not religously motivated. It is politically motivated masked by religion.

As a life-long resident of New Jersey and a proud citizen of the United States, I take exception to tonight’s evening news calling this terrorist cell “Home Grown”. Particularly, when the same report later indicated that these men had been “in the country for years”, but neglected to indicate just how many years – they were, by your own report, not born here and as such are clearly not “home grown”. I can appreciate a desire to “get the story out” quickly, but more importantly, would appreciate a true reporting of the facts. I’d also like to congratulate and salute Joseph Hofflinger for quitting his job at the pizza shop, and standing by his convictions, his country and his son. He is what I would call a “home grown hero”.

Quite sad to see how American media portrays jihadists as from ex-Yugoslavia, knowing full well they are Albanians born in Kosovo. Too bad we want a independent Kosovo for Albanians…same people that tried to kill our soldiers. Sad to see our foreign policy at work.

I dont know what article you all read but the one I read at the top of this post does say 3 were here illegally. I am from a family with soldiers serving and losing lives in all the conflicts, but my intolerance of your intolerant and idiotic statements does not make me unamerican. Yes this country has a lot of problems and some of them are from Christian factions in this country. I can support the troops and not support the war as right. Most of you seem to be blowing hot air and not dealing with the real issues.

I am just frustrated with all the foreigners who hate us. I should have said in my post…I don’t understand people who come here and then bash us while they are here. Not necessarily Albainians and serbs. We are being invaded by foreigners who do not understand the pride most of us have in our country. We do not necessarily agree with everything our politicians do. As a matter of fact Both of our political parties are not anywhere in line with the majority of Americans. They pander to every group they meet with the exception of the working class citizen. With that said, I normally stay out of these forums. But ABC put me over the edge with the “Home grown Terrorist” line. The media is 99% to blame for the demise of pride in America.

This is not sense. Aaron thinks illegal means that the guys came through Mexico or Canada. Why not by sea in a Vessel or by plane with a visa. When anyone comes with a visa and stays beyond the the deadline the Goverment gives you at the airport then you becomes illegal.
The terrorist from 9/11 were here legal, they came with a student visa. So does it matter if they were legal or not. What about the others , they are US citizens.

Let’s be clear about this, Albanians are responsible for this attempt on American military lives, not the Serbs, the same Albanians that were backed by the Clinton administration + Nato during the 90′s Kosovo “Liberation” Movement. Ironic? No. History repeating itself? Yes.

Sorry fellow Americans. Our recent history is full of Christian terrorist attacks. To blame Islam on our current situation is laughable. We have been blowing up and shooting each other very well, for a long time, all by ourselves. This is a FACT!!! Some Christians have used the bible to murder and destroy individuals for hundreds of years. FACT!!!! I am a christian and former soldier. I also like living in reality. If we are to solve this problem, we must be honest and locate the real issues.

Their tactics were those of the terrorists, but they were planning to attack a valid military target, and we are at war. They are not terrorists, they are spies and saboteurs and therefore by the terms of the Geneva convention, they are not protected by it… Unless of course they were wearing their uniforms…

I am a Catholic Albanian native, and have been in this country legally for several years now. I can tell you that Albania is the most peaceful country in Eastern Europe. It is safer in my city than it is here. 1st of all, Albania and Kosovo are 2 completely different countries. They have their government. We have ours. It has been that way for over 10 years. 2nd of all, can any of you Albania-haters even tell me where Albania is? I will go fight for America before any Liberals will. Get your facts straight.

Based on what I have read here, a bucnh of arguing people who have no grasp on the concept of compromise, I am beginning to dislike many Americans also. America needs to start working together in government. Democrats and Republicans need to start to make more compromises and work towards fixing this nation. The current generation in power is completely shafting the future generations. I am 18 years old. My generation and I have the responsibility of fixing the Climate, winning the war on terror, and fixing our economy, thanks a lot old people.

Most of the language being used in quite a few of the posts above are filled with rage, hate, fear, loathing, disgust and menace.
I think a reasonable arguement could be made by the Christian posters that the New Testament is the most accurate portrayal of modern Chrsitianity… but not when their words are so closely aligned with the vengeful, fearful, rage filled God of the Old Testament under Who’s guidance so many acts of barbarism were committed.
I know it’s probably not to be found here, but I hope someday I will be able to read the posts at the end of a news article and see different opinions being expressed with both candor and rational thoughtfulness, whatever the religion, creed, political affiliation of the poster may be.

I really want to respond to something that Mark said, about the failure to prove genocide against the ethnic Albanians. I’m going to say this as nicely as possible, i was there when this was happening, my family sheltered another family that excaped from Kosovo. The genocide was real, they killed thousands of innocent civilians just for the fact that they were muslim and Albanian, they buried people alive, they tortured them, raped their women, killed their children threw hundreeds of them in holes they dug up and left like that just because of the fact that they were muslim Albanian’s. This also went on in Bosnia, they massacred a whole village of people because they were muslim, now if you tell me that this isn’t genocide, or a war crime then you have problems. Now just because those four idiots decided to do something like this based on their thoughts and beliefs which i guarantee you are not shared by 99% of people, dosen’t mean that ethnic Albanians are out to get anyone. Remember the Korean kid, in Virginia Tech? We didn’t say oh Koreans are out to get us, it was obvious that he had mental problems, and you know what, if you ask me its the same with these people, its not an ideology its a mental illness.

What protections are in place when some of these “Jihadists” decide to strike a shopping mall, sporting event, or celebrity gala? It doesn’t surprise me these people are here among us, the only thing that surprises me is the target. This was obviously a suicide mission, so I would not be surprised to see a softer target as the next choice, say, a nightclub bombing. We need to be vigilant EVERYWHERE.

Thank you! (Mike | May 8, 2007 11:53:59 PM).
I lived in Bosnia for some time working with Stabilization Forces (SFOR). I worked on Eagle Base in Tuzla providing communications for US Forces. I made many friends there. Most were Muslim, some were Serb, many worked on base with us. They were definitely not extremists.
I lived off-base in the local community. I drove freely around the country. The only real concern for my personal safety was land mines left behind during combat.
Media portrays what will keep people’s interest. That’s what sells. The “bad” in everyone fills that need. That’s a problem with all of us.
We should be smart enough to realize that a particular religion, ethnicity, or affiliation is not the issue. The issue is not Muslim or Christian. The issue is the extremist in every group or organization.
(Written by a former US Army soldier with a belief in one god. NOT written by an extremist. :) )

It is so easy for these people who would do us harm to enter and remain in this country. Countless illegals are stopped everyday by law enforcement and it is the Federal Government that is sitting on its hands. They have a hands off attitude when it comes to state, county or locals stopping illegals. They tell LE officers to let them go and to contact the local INS reference their illegal status. In the eighties foreign nationals were given the same rights as natural born citizens! Why!!!??? It used to be if you were an illegal, you were arrested, transported to the nearest international transportation facility and deported to the home country. Caught again and it was a direct trip to a federal prison and upon release they were deported again. The Federal Government at this time has neither the will nor the means to deal with illegals so they have adopted the head in the sand method.
9/11 will be small in comparison when these people will have enough manpower and material in place to cause this country significant damage. When it happens, and it will, the greatest noise with be the “Harumphing” in Washington on who dropped the ball.
The jurisdictional lines need to be dropped, inter-agency bickering to stop and everyone get on the same page and get the job of eliminating safe entry and haven for all illegals. It’s time America concerns itself with its citizens first and not political and world whimsy.

Pab, it is alright to be ethnocentric in a way. America has been built on multi-cultural heritage. It is also normal for someone to be proud of their heritage. Albanians and Serbians are not the only ones. There are the Irish, Italians, and hispanics. America celebrates it together on St.Patrick’s day, Columbus Day, and even the Puerto Rican day parade. Unfortunately, these fools forgot their heritage. They were only looking for their 15 minutes of fame. I am sure they still don’t realize what they have done.

I have to clear some of this for a lot of you reading these news. Several items in this story do not connect and are a bit out of place. First let me give you the big picture that will bring some extra info for you. Kosovo has a status that will be decided shortly. They want full independence from Serbia. The names of the alleged attackers are albanian, that’s true, but you need to know the fact that these are the first “albanian terrorists” that attack like this. Now the only thing they know for sure now is their origins and their name. Do you know how easy is to get a fake albanian passport or a passport belonging to former Yougoslavia??? They could very well not be albanian at all, just happend to have used a fake one to get in the US. Option 2: Since Kosovo is fighting hard to get western government approval for full independence, especially from the Bush administration, doesnt it seem a bit weird that kosovars would take these action towards a country that could possibly decide their fate??? If you think of fanatic religious extremists, albanians are definetly not in that category. As an Albanian, I am not really proud to say, but it’s true we are known more for other illegal trades, like drugs etc but in no way extremist religous fanatics. We albanians have our issues but we put our own national pride before any religion.
Posted by: Filan Fisteku | May 9, 2007, 3:26 am 3:26 am
It amazes me that not once on this report was any mention of the illegal alien status of some of these terrorists. It is not only an indication of bias, but a transparent manipulation of news. As for people who have commented asking why it would matter if they were here illegally, it matters just as much as their ethnicity or religious background, both of which are clearly noted. One last note, there is a comment about “how easy” it would be for us to be attacked. That is a very naive and somewhat ignorant point of view. While there are many vulnerable spots in our country, there is enough vigilance to catch plots as they ready themselves for an attack. Whether it is as they attempt to arm themselves with guns or explosives, or they take steps to “learn” about their targets, there is a good chance to catch them. This incident is proof of that. One thing we do need to put more effort into, is our border/immigrant entry security. We simply must stop the entry of illegal immigrants. A little more honesty in news reports from ABC would also help.

I agree with filan above. What people do not realize is that albania is a post-communist country and as such religion was forbidden for the past 50 years. Hence, albanians in Albania do not give a crap about any religion. Over 80% are not affiliated with one religion or another. Religion in albania is more of a label that people recall from their grandparents rather than a true religion.
These guys are from former yugoslavia–north of albania. No one can be too sure which province of former yugoslavia. And if they are ethnic albanians from the province of kosovo, then most certainly (100%) these guys do NOT represent the views or interests of other ethnic albanians who were saved by the US during the 1999 genocide. Ethnic albanians in kosovo are eternally grateful to the US for saving their women, man, and children. And more importantly, the province’s fate now depends on the US’ support. So why would they do such a stupid thing? Do they not want independence? we all know that’s not true. who doesn’t want independence from a country that oppresses you? so what is left? These guys are not albanian in the first place!!! But rather, they are serbs–the same who committed the genocide–the same who do not want to loose Kosovo land. and they’re trying to blame it on albanians of course. If this won’t work to push the US against Kosovo what would?

So some of them were here illegally? Keeping track of who is coming and going, and guarding our borders should have been taken seriously at least by 9-12-2001.
What’s it gonna take? Virginia Tech and now this? These guys could more easily have gotten their AK’s and M16′s at a Virginia gun show. The gun rights advocates seem unwilling to sacrifice an inch to keep military firepower out of the hands of terrorists. “Sacrifice” in this “War on Terror” is limited to the few decent, trusting young people who flocked to join our military when we were attacked. The “Patriot Act” seems to target mainly free speech and association. When are we going to get serious about gun control? I am not a pacifist. I feel I have the right to own a handgun and a shotgun to defend my family. I don’t need military firepower to do that.

I have one problem with your post. Those guys were under FBI investigation since January 2006. FBI had about 15 months to track down all guys involved in the plot to the days when they were wearing diapers. So please don’t make any hints that they are Serbs. No one is going to buy that.

When Serbs (who are Christians) were fighting Albanian terrorists in Kosovo, you called them “Rebels for independence” and were supporting them against Serbs. I posted a blog before stating my opinion on how many people were attacking the Albanians for what these four people did, now there is something else that I want to say. I heard some people write that these people might not be Albanian because they wouldn’t risk Kosovo’s independece. I do believe they were Albanian, but that has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with what they did, they could not care less about Kosovo’s independence, they did this for their own gratitude, so please don’t tie their ethnicity into this because it has absolutely nothing to do with what they wanted to do. (by the way as someone stated above, they aren’t even from Kosovo.)

In response to the overwhelming number anti-illegal immigrant posts in conjunction with this story, I would like to point out that half of the arrested suspects are legal aliens. The claim that allowing illegal aliens into the country will open us up to internal attacks is preposterous. Need I remind everyone that, 9/11 aside, all other acts of terrorism against the United States in recent history have been from Americans (i.e. Timothy McVeigh, Ted Kaczynski, etc.)? Attacks aren’t limited to radical Muslims, either. Eric Robert Rudolph, an American and a Christian, was responsible for the bombings of a number of abortion clinics and homosexual nightclubs, but you might remember him better from the bombing at the 1996 Olympics in Georgia. Terrorists are not exclusively Muslim nor non-American, so please stop in perpetuating and defending the stereotype to support unrelated political beliefs.
Posted by: Laid-Back Discontent | May 9, 2007, 5:47 pm 5:47 pm
Andrew, although McVeigh was raised in the Roman Catholic tradition, his faith gradually lapsed as an adult. He engaged in no meaningful religious activity during the final years of his life, and described himself as an agnostic.
As for your radical, RATM-inspired beliefs regarding the propensity of *Americans* for terrorism, I would say: *regardless* of any validity your views may have (very little, I’m happy to say — but that’s an aside), we don’t need to accept or excuse the horrific violence regularly committed by radical, transnational Islamists — or offer them the comfort of moral equivalence.
P.S. *Wherever* they win, the liberals are the first to suffer. Keep this in mind as you rush to redirect our attention to the majority Christian population — whom you so distrust, yet ironically rely upon for protection.

This is so depressing. First, my professor said that America is one of the most racist countries in the world. Then, my brother comes home and his dean tells his class not to trust muslims. They’re trained to be nice but are actually evil. Then he looks at my brother and suggested to the rest of the class not to trust even their friend. Tell me, what should my opinion be? How should I feel? Everyone hates me and I’m innocent. Yes, it is true. I am muslim and of Albanian decent. No, I am not a radical. I’m from a sect of Islam that do not wear the hijab. We’re open to all faiths. We also consider Jesus as a very important figure in Islam. Almost everyone I know is educated and not vullnerable to cults. That’s what I see these people as. Many Middle Esatern muslims do not accept us. I once had a friend from the Mid East. Her mother called me a piece of sh** fake muslim just because I did not agree with her. (BTW, I’m not saying that everyone in the Mid-East is like this) Mohammed preached about going with the times and not segragating ourselves into our own group. Basically, fanatical ideas are like an orthodox religion. I;m not a fanatic. I love being American. When I visited the Balkans, I received special treatment because I’m American; except from Northern Montenegro. A woman from Cetinje was very unhappy an American was siting in her chair. I honestly don’t know what to feel right now.

How is it humanly possible that ABC would run this story in the bad taste of emblazoning it with not one but two CALIFORNIA PIZZA KITCHEN ads?

The MSM never wants to acknowledge any relevant facts that since CLINTON launched his war on Serbia, the crooked Albanian Muslim mafia that deals in the international sex trade/kidnapping, drug-smuggling, and pornography have run rampant. It was the Serbs at Kosovo that kept Europe from being turned into a Muslim stronghold against the Ottomans–not the Albanians. These Muslim s are all crooks. From Musharraff to the mullahs in Iran and the corrupt “royals” in Saudi Arabia. They are hypocrites, all have Swiss bank accounts, snort coke and engage with prostitutes–some double-standard. And they pretend to be oh so pious!!! PLEEEZ! When will the MSM wake up??

It is disgusting that you bleeding heart libs always push out Timothy McVeigh as the poster child for anyone who is relgious in America. If you had really seen things for what they are, McVeigh did not believe in God towards the last years of his life and was not conservative. He was a radical and was executed by the US Government. How come we never execute the radical sheiks and Muslims we capture? It must be the white guilt thing. Like that naive fool, Colin Powell or George H. W. Bush, thinking that helping the tsunami victims or liberating Kuwait would somehow make us love in the eyes of Muslims!! How loved are we in that part of the world? Not much, and it doesn’t matter how much we do…the ignorant and superstitious Muslim masses–”the Muslim street”–and the uneducated demagogue Wahhabist imams, the corrupt totalitarian fascist regimes, and their sycophantic press (al-Jazeera) that have infiltrated almost all of the mosques. These clowns make sure we are always their bogeyman. Everyone blame Amerca and whitey. By the way, all you liberal billionaires and MSM, je pose une question: who still practises and defends slavery, female genital mutilation, and honor-killings via throat-slitting as a proud part of their culture? Not some yahoo from Appalachia, but the Arab and Musselman culture. Wake up.

Matthew, I enjoyed your rant, but there is something that you do not realize. First, Milosevic and several other members of the Serbian government were proven to be involved somehow with the Serbian mafia. What do you think Arkan was? A soccer club ownwer? Give me a break. They tried to keep the borders for themself so that they can continue their drug trafficing. From what history tells us, Serbs fell pretty quickly to the Ottomans. If you do not read much, you can always watch Crni Gruja. He makes great fun of Ottoman occupation in Serbia. Another thing, if it is any country that would hate America, it would be Serbia. They seem to still be bitter. As for Albanians from whatever country, they support America 100%.

This is a legitimate effort in the Global War on Terrorism…not the illegal occupation of Iraq!

Put these men on trial, convict them, and send them to Egypt and let them take their heads off.

Her mother called me a fake muslim just because I did not agree with her.

Didi,
It’s clear to see that you are a freedom-loving Muslim and folks like you are in a unique position because you are more likely to overhear or notice something suspicious that may help prevent a terrorist attack in America (or even overseas)!! Radical Muslims like your Middle Eastern friend’s mom may say something suspicious in front of you that she wouldnt say if she was with non-Muslims!! If you would have had any sincere reason to believe she or anyone in her family was/is involved in planning or conducting a terrorist attack, you should call the FBI or go to their website to leave an anonymous tip that could help prevent another 9/11!! Thanks for being an American, the country needs more good folks like you!!
BTW, ignore the rants of your leftist professor, who is only providing cover (not necessarily intended) for Jihadists to do their evil deeds, so can blame it on Prez Bush if and when another terror attack occurs on American soil!! It’s because of good folks like you, who HAVE prevented another 9/11 so far by contacting police or FBI with their valuable info!!

Didi,
It’s actually nice to finally hear from an american muslim who loves being an american. Our country is in a very serious predicament, regarding the safety of it’s people (and don’t think for one minute that does not include you and your family). Many non-muslim americans have lost their trust for muslims here, due to the existence of “sleeper cells” who can at a moment’s notice, go from being ordinary integrated members of our society to crashing planes into buildings or seeking to kill innocent people. Our predicament is how to tell these people apart from people like yourself. The eight men picked up for the incidents in London and Scotland were doctors and I doubt any of their patients EVER imagined that they would go from saving lives to attempting to take innocent lives. I don’t believe there is a perfect solution to this problem that could ever be fair to someone like yourself, because all such solutions involve probing more deeply into the lives and daily activities of people of middle eastern descent. I believe we all realize that there are others like yourself out there who have become the unwilling victims of a fight to keep the country secure. Keep up your faith as an american and let others know how you feel. That is the best way that anyone’s patriotism can be demonstrated and as long as a person really believes in this country, it shouldn’t be such a chore to do. Thank you for writing in and showing the world the face of a proud muslim-american. We can all learn alot from people like yourself.
Mark
