U.S., Germans Fear Terror Attack
U.S. and German officials fear terrorists are in the advanced planning stages of an attack on U.S. military personnel or tourists in Germany. Law enforcement officials tell the Blotter on ABCNews.com that U.S. air marshals have been diverted to provide expanded protection of flights between Germany and the United States. "The information behind the threat is very real," a senior U.S. official told ABC News. Photos Terror Threat in Germany German Interior Minister Wolfgang Schauble told reporters, "The danger level is high. We are part of the global threat by Islamist terrorism." Of particular concern, according to U.S. and German law enforcement officials, is Patch Barracks, the headquarters for U.S. European Command, near Stuttgart. Click Here for Full Blotter Coverage. Security at all U.S. military and diplomatic facilities has been increased in the last month following reports that suspected terrorists had conducted surveillance of the Patch Barracks facility. "The attack would be designed to create high numbers of casualties among both Germans and the U.S. military," said ABC News consultant Richard Clarke, a former White House counterterror official. The 9/11 hijackers planned their operation out of Hamburg, Germany, and the country continues to be known as a staging area for al Qaeda and groups affiliated with it. "There are 300 to 500 people who are suspected to be part of al Qaeda cells in Germany," said Col. Andrew Pratt (Ret.) of the George Marshall Center in Germany. "In a democratic state like Germany, you just can’t go out and arbitrarily arrest people because they are under suspicion," Pratt said. German officials have called for enhanced police powers to keep suspected terror groups in check. Several radical Islamist groups have threatened violence unless Germany withdraws its troops from the NATO force in Afghanistan. A radical Islamist group in Iraq took a German woman and her adult son hostage in February, threatening to execute them if Germany did not pull its troops out of Afghanistan. The two are still being held. Late last month, the U.S. Embassy in Berlin issued a statement saying that security was being increased at the embassy and other consular facilities "in response to a heightened threat situation." The statement also urged "Americans in Germany to increase their vigilance and take appropriate steps to bolster their own personal security." A spokesperson at Patch Barracks said they were not aware of any specific surveillance on the location, and they are not under any more specific surveillance than other U.S. facilities in Germany. "As a response to the U.S. Embassy Berlin’s recent warden message, all U.S. military installations in Germany are urged to exercise increased viligance," they said in a statement to ABC News. When asked today about ABC News’ report of a terror threat in Germany, State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said, "I don’t have anything new on that." He continued, "There was recently, within the past couple weeks…a warden message that went out from our embassy asking people in-country to exercise extra vigilance and caution although, at that point, they didn’t have a specific, credible threat, but they were quite concerned." I wonder if these leaks of information by American and German officials are intended to cause a disruption to the cell planning attacks.

Old news. I was in Germany 3 weeks ago and they were warning everyone to check the US embassy website for information relating to potential terrorist alerts. Once again the media oversells the story with the use of the word “imminent”.

I thought there was no War on Terror. I wonder if they hate us because of Bush? I wonder if Pelosi can find time to go meet with them? Maybe she can come home and tell us there will be peace in our time? Perhaps if Israel just gives up more land they will stop for a while. Maybe is we all convert to Islam they will let us live. Liberals always feed the sharks hoping to get eaten last.

this is not a scare tactic, to make us afraid; but rather a notice that hey we are still fighting a war against terrorists around the world, and we are winning. Brendan may be right too, in that this small leak could be part of a good plan to catch them while disrupting them.

You got it!
Create FEAR as he did throughout his REIGN.

Heaven forbid they alert the potential targets (tourists) so that they can be more aware of their surroundings. Would David Smith rather the attacks happen, so he can blame the powers that be for NOT warning everyone?

Germans need to rediscover that Islam is far from just another religious belief and the people planning these attacks have in mind a radical makeover of Germany in the mold of Iran or Saudi Arabia.
How many bodies will have to pile up before Germans awake from thier sleep?

It’s funny how some people can interpret information like this as the government trying to squash our freedoms. The fact is the terrorists really are trying to harm us and our way of life, but all you can think about is how horrible our government is for pointing it out.

It’s a sign they have “chatter” but no hard intel. Something they finally learned from 9/11. Only a dipstick Dem would think it’s just a scare tactic. They would much rather see the proof jumping from 70 floors up..

actually, this is in response to the coming G8 protest in germany. they have already begun ‘terror sweeps’, arresting people, knocking out servers, et cetera – this terrorist threat is really nothing more than calling german and US citizens (who are planning on making their voices heard in front of the G8) terrorists in order to distort public percpetion. don’t you people know what’s going on in the world at all?

Yeah the usage of words like “imminent” is a sure fire way to sell fear, newspapers, memberships to the NRA. The fact of the matter is they have no idea how to battle terrorism properly. Leaking information only makes the government spend money foolishly and hapharzardly to “prepare” for a war with no boundaries. The media cannot win the wars only swift action using protected intelligence. Learn from the Israelis, they understand Terrorism better than anybody.

Amazing…darned if they do, darned if they don’t. Criticize the government for announcing it because “they just want us to beg them to save us.” But if they don’t announce it and it happens and it’s discovered that “the government knew before hand” then all the blame gets heaped on the government for not doing anything or warning anybody. Looks like no matter what, people find a way to complain.

In the 80s, when communist terrorists were rampaging through Europe, the people found the best way to fight them was to deny them dvertisement, deny them recognition, deny them their 15 mintues in the sun. In other words, not ignore them, but not REACT to them. Bush, Blair and the neo con crowd is so reactionary that Al Qaeda has played them to their advantage. WAKE UP, AMERICANS/WORLD: Terrorism thrives on creating news and destruction and fear. This is nothing new. I’ve had a brother and a newphew-in-law stationed in Germany for several years now and they have always been warned about such actions, especially since 9/11. It’s one of the reasons they don’t live on base, they live quite some distance from cities in small villages where strangers are easily noticed as everyone knows everyone else.

here’s my take…these are irrational people who are stupid because their plans are often foiled. i think we need to make them uncomfortable at all times and attack them if we are attacked…placing some fear in them is the only way to slow down/stop savages- as in the wild.

Seems obvious. Just listen to and understand the terrorists. All they want is for us to give in and accede to all of their demands everywhere and at all times.
Take a lesson from the Spanish. Surrender, retreat, and welcome Muslim terrorists with open arms. The least we can do is vote to cave in.
They will then be grateful, appreciate and love us, giving peace a chance.

Considering terrorism has been around since BEFORE the TIME OF CHRIST. What makes ANYONE believe that the Bush Administration (or anyone) can be rid of it?
It will continue to be employed by desperate groups in their fight. BUT, how effective will it be all depends on OUR governments reaction and the media.

What will it take for Americans to see that some of our “ideals” are not applicable in the modern world. Sure it would be nice to have the luxury of judging people by their individual actions instead of their race, nationality, or religion. However, these specific circumstances dictate that the percetage of Muslims that mean us harm is too high to allow any more of them in our country. We should immediately start deporting all the illegals and those that are here temporarily. A single attack with WMDs because of our ideals could cost us hundreds of thousands of lives and bring down our economy. Just how stupid are all of you! I understand that it would be nice to have that idealistic world. Do you understand that your children could be killed because of your stupid grip on that fantasy!

Liberals are fools. If you warn them, it’s a Big Brother Scare Tactic, if you don’t warn them and an attack happens, then you’re incompetent and responsible for everyone’s death.
THE REAL PROBLEM: Liberals are cowards. Warnings like these from the intelligence community doesn’t SCARE me… they make REAL Americans (and REAL men and women of character) vigilant, smart and ready to fight. Just like the video clerk in New Jersey who recognized a possible problem with fanatic jihadists, called it in, and stopped the terror attack.

To those who think this announcement is meant to scare you into giving up your liberties, it is the TERRORISTS who have caused that. If they had not attacked us on 9/11, you would still have every liberty and freedom you had then (and largely still do). But the security of the people of a nation is EVERYTHING. Without it, what good is liberty when you can be blown away and there is nothing to provide retribution for that? The sooner you all realize that the 10% of Islam (100 MILLION!) that wish us harm are the enemy and that we MUST fight back, the sooner you will realize that we MUST change our mindset.

While Islam might be a “religion of peace” the extremists (since you do not like the term terrorist) are not peaceful. They have one purpose, to make converts. To them it’s a choice on our part, we either convert or we are the enemy and therefor must die.

My child is all to aware of the terrorist and what they can do. I will not say male/female or what they specifically do but I can say that my child protects this country DAILY from the scary terrorist.
If you think terrorism is a joke, live Europe…anywhere in Europe… it has been a reality there long before 9/11 made it real here.
Every person in the military knew what they were getting into when they took their oath, and tourist should be aware that not everyone thinks America is as great as most of us that live here do. BUT, if my child and others the US government have knowledge that there is imminent danger and they did NOT tell you… you would scream later that “they knew and hid it.”
Take your pick, a government that protects (at a cost!) or a government that does nothing. You do not get to choose at your convienence. You should choose and live with the decision.
Me, I choose a government, that for all of it’s shortcomings, does what it can to make sure we are safe…even when that means my child misses Christmas, bitrhdays etc with the family that respect their decision to PROTECT the people that apparently do not want protection.

Muslims are peaceful peace, much like Christians are. The problem is that EXTREMISM takes over. In ANY aspect, extremism is dangerous. Whether you are a Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, etc. It doesn’t matter. We don’t (nor shouldn’t) judge an entire portion of the population b/c of the actions of a bad few. That’s what the Rush Limbaugh listeners and mouth-breathing Fox news watchers, chicken hawks and living room commandoes all can’t grasp. The twin towers didn’t come down because we have a Super Bowl. They came down because we occupy Saudi Arabia, sacred ground to the Muslims. The radicals will NEVER rest while we are there. This reminds me so much about World History through the ages and how Governments will demonize a group of people and create widespread fear to force the people to allow their Governments to behave in ways they would never have allowed otherwise.
What is surprising is that it still works.

Well, now that the terrorists know that, they’ll try something else. Way to encourage a more effective assault by showing them the game plan. Does anyone there think, for a moment, of checking such sensitive information with a security agency to see if it could be potentially harmful? It’s not the government that’s making feel unsafe, it’s ABC

I think terrorists are real but I also think this is an attempt to take our freedoms away. I think it is both and I think that both our own government and the terrorists are the enemy. There is only one solution: bring back laissez faire government and the most devestating war ever on the people who try and take this from us.
Posted by: John | May 11, 2007, 1:04 pm 1:04 pm
It is silly to be skeptical of threats. The individuals who justify their violence against any other human including the United States…is looking for a “story line” for their actions. We all need to keep our eyes and ears open and be prepared for the type of devastation we see around the world. America is not going to be safe from all of that but we are capable of preparing for our survival. Preparation is not a day in and day out act of fear. It is a responsible action and the ability then to put that fear aside and move on in our daily lives making life good for all.

The fact of the matter is that the boogeymen we face today are a result of our unnecessary foreign interventions of old. We are just perpetuating this and increasing the possibility of more boogeymen by unecessarily expanding the conflict.
Right now in Iraq you have the “pro war” Republicans and the “anti war” Dems playing chicken with soldiers lives because none of them wants to be the one to cut and run. The Dems want a slow withdraw plan so it kills the Republicans in 2008 and the Republicans are beating their chest until around September when the majority of them plan to fold their hand. Our troops are in the middle of this political game and it makes me sick. If this is how Congress and the President want to fight this war, pull them out now. These are the political signals I am getting, most people not blinded by party get this feeling too.
Iran is not a significant threat to us unless we want them to be. The Shiite groups will not attack us here unless we attack or provoke them. Why do we give Israel three billion dollars if we have to put out their fires for them? Besides Iran helped us in the Afghanistan War and the war on Al Qaeda up until Bush’s “Axis of Evil” speech. The Axis of Evil speech was stupid because it drew unnecessary battle lines. The tough talk didn’t work, it just made more of a mess. Iran yanked assistance on the War on Al Qaeda and the administration slowly began to beat the war drums. Then we unfortunately invaded Iraq and surrounded Iran by two borders. Not to mention that all of this helped elect Amanutjob or whatever his name is. So we have Iran surrounded at two borders, we are calling them Evil, and making ultimatums with no will to enter into talks. Now this might seem like pressure to you, but our history at dealing with third world nations is fickle and especially after Gulf War I, where the State Department told Saddam that we don’t get involved in Arab border disputes and then proceeded to attack them after they solved their border dispute, what credibility do we have? There are alleged terrorist acts going on right now in Iran by radical sunnis. Are we involved in this? I wouldn’t put it past us. It sure looks like somebody wants war. Gen Wesley Clark got a ruler across the wrist saying that New York money is for war with Iran. AIPAC was ringing Congressmen’s phones when they heard that Iran was going to be decoupled from the Iraq War Funding. Iran is not suicidal, islamofascism is an oversimplistic talking point. Sunni Wahabbi Radicals attacked us on 9/11. Some utopian change the middle east dream reminds me of the Bolsheviks preoccupation with “permanant revolution”, which the Neocons believe in.
North Korea, Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran are all places we intervened in before and we will again unless we make a fundamental change in foreign policy. Talking points cannot change that. The Global Caliphate is empty rhetoric. Al Qaeda has not even taken governmental control of one country, they are guerilla fighters and ill equipped at offensive wars of empire. This is just a ghost story to scare you. The second Al Qaeda assumes control of one country they will be vaporized. They cannot run countries from exile like defensive guerilla wars. We must be mindful of our enemies. We must concentrate our resources on Al Qaeda.
Finally Iran has had much investment by China, who owns alot of our debt, and Russia, who we feel we have a right to tell them how to run their own country. If we dump on China’s oil investments, what’s to say they wouldn’t retaliate with economic warfare. What happens to a fiat currency when their dollars get dumped? How you going to kill Al Qaeda when there is unrest in our own streets and China is laughing all the way to Taiwan. Also what grew out of Germany when their currency went to hell? That is why we do not need unecessary wars.
The Cold War is not over because we never withdrew our troops, the Soviets did, but we are still fighting the battles of the Cold War. The Soviets withdrew not on their own terms, but because they could not keep their empire. Are we going to go the way of the Soviets or are we going to end the Cold War on our own terms?

I go back to the same thing every time someone talks with dread about al Qaeda or any other terrorist group….we (the US) lose 35,000 +/- lives on our highways each year, 400,000 lives from smoking/smoking related illnesses. We lose approximately 800 from storms and about 1000s from accidents (falling, usually) in the home. Violent crime and car accidents kill thousands of our youth every year. So far our fight against terrorism has accounted for about $500 +/- 100 billion dollars of our funds since 2001 (it depends on direct vs indirect costs)… What the greatest number of lives that can reasonably be lost from a terrorist attack…3000? 10,000? 50,000?
ould_be_10_times_worse_than_911)
….Let’s say 100,000: that’s 3 years of carnage on our highways and 3-4 months of smoking. Where’s our “War on Cars” or the “War on Tobacco”?
Add it all up and the lives lost on 9/11 barely surpass the murder totals for the 6 highest cities for murder in America in 2005 (one year
alone) (354, Det, 377, Phil, 334, Hou, 448, Chi, 489, LA, 539, NY) The bottom line is al Qaeda is a drop in the bucket… The real issue is $$$, power, and influence. No more, no less.
We “tremble” in fear of these guys yet think nothing of hopping in our car for a 5 mile trip to Wal-Mart…. Calculate the odds. Rand once calculated that you stood a 6000 time greater chance of being hit by lightning than by being a terrorist victim…go figure.
Don’t get me wrong, any life lost is tragic but it’s tragic whether it’s a car accident victim, a terrorist victim, or an American, an Iraqi, or an Inuit that fell in and drowned.
An extract from:
http://psweb.sbs.ohio-state.edu/faculty/jmueller/RNRHVD.pdf (A paper presented at Havard University in 2004)
“the number of people worldwide who die as a result of international terrorism is generally only a few hundred a year, tiny compared to the numbers who die in most civil wars or from automobile accidents. In fact, until 2001 far fewer Americans were killed in any grouping of years by all forms of international terrorism than were killed by lightning. And except for 2001, virtually none of these terrorist deaths occurred within the United States itself. Indeed, outside of 2001, fewer people have died in America from international terrorism than have drowned in toilets.24 Even with the September 11 attacks included in the count, however, the number of Americans killed by international terrorism since the late 1960s (which is when the State Department began its accounting) is about the same as the number killed over the same period by lightning–or by accident-causing deer or by severe allergic reaction to peanuts. In almost all years the total number of people worldwide who die at the hands of international terrorists is not much more than the number who drown in bathtubs in the United States.”
AND
The Center for Disease Control reported 3,482 drowning deaths in the United States during the year 2000. That statistic did not include boating related accidents, which in the year 2002 for example, accounted for 701 additional deaths.
AND

That does it! Effective today I declare a “War on the Five Gallon Bucket”!

Imminent threat? So, what the liberals say we can’t racially profile people, we can’t be proactive because we aren’t sensitive enough to “their” struggle. I beleive that they should get what they get, and one day hopefully soon people will wake up and see what is going on. At that point I really would not want to be a Muslim anywhere on the face of this planet.

If the US warns of an imminent attack Liberals scream that Bush is just trying to scare people.
If the US doesn’t warn of an imminent attack and it happens Liberals scream that Bush should have warned them.
If the US does anything to figure out if an attack is imminent Liberals scream that Bush is Hitler and we’re all living in one big concentration camp.
If the US does nothing to figure out if an attack is imminent Liberals scream that Bush is incompetent and asleep at the wheel.
If the US does anything to prevent an imminent attack from occurring Liberals scream that Bush is running concentration camps full of innocent people.
If the US does nothing to prevent an imminent attack and it happens Liberals scream that Bush should have prevented it.
See a pattern here?

Round up all the Muslims and send them back home. It’s that freaking simple. Sure there are good ones, but the number that want to change our way of life and the number that woud do us harm it too large to take a chance in a world of dirty bombs, chemicals, and biological weapons. Our ideals are not longer applicable. We can CHOOSE to protect our culture, way of life, and families if we allow ourselves to use our intelligence and common sense instead of allowing the left to convice us that we are bad people for wanting to be safe by kicking them all the hell out!

Marine Corps University: Corporals Noncommissioned Officers Program CPL 0302 Jan 99
Objective of terrorists:
b. Cause the Government to Overreact. The government often overreacts to acts of
terrorism by instituting special anti-terrorist laws allowing searches without warrants, holding
people in custody without charge, or modifying the rules of evidence. These actions are seen by
the people as violations of their rights and may create an atmosphere more sympathetic to the
terrorist.

I find it interesting that the liberals are so woreried about gov’t intruding in thier personal lives (patriot act, etc), but have no problem looking to or wanting the gov’t to pay for thier personal choices (welfare, universal healthcare, etc).
I seem to recall that the terrorist attacked us several times under Clinton’s Reign. But liberals always fail to acknowledge that and put all blame on any attacks on Bush.
Peace has always come at a cost of lives. I am thankful that people in the past and present are willing to pay the ultimate price so complete idiots can say whatever they want regardless of how stupid or contrived those comments may be.

I think the point David may be trying to make is that the true weapon of terrorists is fear. And how do you defeat that?
For every terrorist Bush kills, he creates a martyr that spawns more terrorists. The only true way to defeat terrorists is to not be afraid of them. If they commit or conspire to commit a terrorist act, you take them out. Otherwise, your life, your government and your philosophy should not be dictated by terrorism.

Germany frequently arrests people for suspicion of Nazi support/propoganda, surely that could be extended to Jihadists?
Honestly, this suprising anyone is shocking – every country in the world is at risk of jihadists, every single country (even Iran or Syria or Saudi Arabia) is at risk.
I’m just glad by 2008 when Bush goes, the Jihadists will stop the attacks and start building schools and hospitals and we can all go back to a peaceful world run by a Clinton – like ’92 – ’00!

The scary thing is that there are enough Americans with their heads in the sand to have elected a Congress that wants to guarantee a repeat of Vietnam. That is, politicians trying to armchair quarterback the war when it should be the Commander In Chief and military personnel in the field calling the shots! I wish people would realize that it’s not 1069 anymore. Grow up!!!

Bush has the lowest approval rating in US history??? Not only is that not true, but Harry Truman, (the beloved president of many) had an approval rating 5% lower than bush’s! WHY? People died while he was president. Thats why Bush has a low approval rating, our young service people are dieing! Its a horrible thing, but in the end it is for a just cause to eliminate those who want to anonymously kill people. In the long run of history, Truman was justified and commended for his presidency as will Bush. The cause and effect of this or any war will not be seen for years to come. So long as we dont just pull out like the Dems are trying.

Get real people! The people you call Islamic Radical are the bi-product of years of U.S. conspiracies that you ignorant Americans support by electing the idots that have run D.C. for decades. If you had the slightest clue as to the atrocities the U.S. goverment has committed “In your Name” directly and indirectly, you would (a) be disgusted and (b)understand that this is about revenge for those past atrocities. Unfortunately for the “We want it fast, now and our way” citizens of America, these “so called radicals” have the patients to wait until you think it’s over. You want them to stop, then go to D.C. and demand “YOUR” government to come clean and apologies for it’s actions. Then you might have a chance at the beginning of true peace. Otherwise America is going to continue to be attacked as retribution for our own crimes, and we deserve it.

Maybe George Bush should summon Tom Cruise to the White House. This way, we can get the Scientology space aliens to zap the Islamo nuts with a death ray, and rid the entire world of the Muslim scourge.
Really though, to be more practical, the CIA should do a black op and spike the water supply of the Middle East…sterilize all the women so they can’t breed future whacked out crazies. Hmmm, this may work.

See….Bush is evil! He’s planning this because his approval ratings stink! See….Nancy Pelosi is evil! She doesn’t think we’re in danger of being attacked by terrorists! See…see….see…
It’s exhausting. There should be no political divide on matters like this, or the aborted Fort Dix attack, or the aborted airliners attack, etc.
The jihadists want to kill Westerners, as many as they can, to instill fear and to move our political agenda.
It’s really quite simple. Why don’t we quit all the infighting and come to realize that we’re all on the same friggin’ team, folks.

Shawn,
There is a lot of truth to what you say, but you are misunderstanding Islam. It is an aggressive religion. If we were to totally withdraw from the middle east, say “FU” to Israel, and concentrate on alternative energy, they would still try to undermine western values/countries and engage in violence wherever they migrate. The west is not compatible with Islam and someone has to have the courage to tell that truth. We need to throw them all out (definitely not let an more in). The risks are too high.

Americans are generally clueless about geopolitical events. They do not understand who really runs the world and why things like terrorism happen. I think we can all agree here that events like 9/11 are impossible unless elite powers in America gave the green light. What is completely laughable is that people believe that WTC 7 collapsed just because of fire. No steel structures had ever collapsed by fire alone before 9/11. Get a dose of reality and realize WTC 7 was brought down by explosives! And why would they keep diesel fuel in a building like that? Diesel fuel is kept in tankers, not buildings in the middle of a city where office workers go everyday!

David didn’t write that the threat wasn’t real, just that it’s being widely reported several weeks after it was made known.
For those unaware, in the US the word ‘imminent’ has a very specific meaning in regards to threats, and for the media to use it when the government isn’t can be considered sensationalism.

Posted by: realer | May 11, 2007, 1:29 pm 1:29 pm
It makes no sense to create the false choice of either you with Bush or with the terrorists. They are not mutually exclusive. One can validly believe that the terrorists are evil and that Bush is a terrible president. If McCain or Giulani were elected in 2000, I don’t believe we’d see the level of violence we have seen since the beginning of the Iraq occupation. Perhaps if Bush was focused on fighting actual terrorists instead of red herrings like gay marriage, abortion, and stem cell research, our country would be a safer place. Interesting how almost all the hijackers were Saudi and we then go after Iraq. And still, Bush can’t find bin Laden, and he still bends over for the Saudi royal family. I agree that the world has become a more dangerous place, and we should be scared. However, Bush has shown himself time and time again that he is not the solution. I never thought I’d say that I don’t care who wins the election in 2008, but at this point, any administration would keep us safer than this lot of incompetant buffoons.

Progressives like Noam Chomsky and Molly Ivins have been telling us about the American military war machine for years. What is really cool about Noam Chomsky is that he questions authority and doesn’t want to accept the propaganda about what really happened on 9/11. The Bush illegal war in Iraq was only possible if the people believed that 9/11 was the result of 19 hijackers and jet airplanes.
There are many really cool progressive Web sites that prove it was more than likely squib charges that brought down the WTC, and the use of holograms convinced many (but not us really cool progressives) that it was jet airplanes being flown into the building.
Chomsky won’t accept the propaganda and other really cool progressives like me and Sean Penn and Randi Rhodes are all onto the lies of the Bush regime.

During the months Bush was reported to be building up ships, equipment and troops into the Middle East…I expressed my belief that Bush was going to make Suddam a target in order to get revenge on him for his attack on his father’s life. Once he had the troops fighting in Afhganistan, it was clear to me that Bush had a motive and once into battle it was near impossible for our country to stop him. I believe he has used the military in this region to have the security around while he and all of his oil buddies tapped the oil wells. It was a misuse of our sons and daughters, fathers and mothers and a violation of public trust. All of these are impeachable acts and again as I predicted in those early months of deployment…it has been a manipulation between political lines during the last couple of years before election. Shame on Bush, Chaney, the Senate and House and us to follow the prediction of those in power that Americans are dumb and slow and will get paralyzed in making the changes that should have come in 2002-2003.

Yes, it certainly IS President George W. Bush’s fault and he should apologize, and he should have a time out, and he should see a psychiatrist, and he should get Ritalin, and take up Yoga, and eat Vegan, and smoke dope, and believe that Senator Obama offers something new and different.

Those that think that this is just a ploy by Bush will be the first to complain about how the government didn’t do anything to prevent an attack once an attack is made.
Just more liberal hypocrisy spewed by the appeasment-minded left winger who are weak on terror.

Liberals are reputed to be intelligent people who weigh facts before they decide whether something is true or not. But when it comes to terror, they simply will not accept the possibility that it exists. Someone simply is trying to scare us. What scares me in fact is the way liberals “think.”
Posted by: mhr | May 11, 2007, 1:34 pm 1:34 pm
Why is it that every time the Bush Administration wants its way, they come up with all of these scare tactics? This is only a tool to get the American people to pressure their Congressional Reps to approve their war spending bill. This Administration is a farce! They lied and manipulated their way into office in 2000, again in 2004 and they have lied to us the entire time. It is hard to believe anything that any of them say!! Why don’t we fear the coming hurricane season while New Orleans still sits in ruin?

We need to think on a larger scale, a historical scale. We have been resting on our laurels for several centuries. Riding the wake of past crusades. Christians have pushing Muslims out of our lands for hundreds on years, before liberal factions and their “mommy” mentality. I believe we as Christians, not as politicians, must unite for a common goal to push back the Muslims again, whatever means necessary. We have a duty to protect our lively hood, our way of life on our own land and we will have to do this with a new “Global” Crusade. We must not be tolerating Muslim hatred in our own land. Europe and America has become a festering stew with Muslim parasites. We must not give in, we have only just started.

Once some of you can get over the politics of Republicans and Democrats and who’s to blame maybe you can have a sensable conversation on the topic. If the Democrats were in office would the situation be different here? Nope, sorry. And guess what the terrorists, Al Qaeda killed many Americans on Sept. 11th and threaten to do it again all over the world, whether you are a Republican or Democrat so wake up, part of the way to defeat this is together, not divided amongst party lines to see who can get elected and to see where the popularity polls are at the time. If I were looking at this country from an outside point of view I would be laughing….. at Republicans and Democrats alike.

The only thing that scares me about all of this is that many Americans are so closed minded even with the facts infront of them. Perfect example was Rosie’s support of the conspiracy theory of 9/11. We all are AMERICANS! Doesn’t matter right or left. We all have to meet in the middle to protect our way of life!

A reporter in Azerbaijan was convicted and jailed this month for insulting Islam by saying that Christian teachings were based on peace and tolerance while Islamic values were not. I had to laugh out loud when I read the following sentence from a news report on this event:
“Soon after the article appeared, an Iranian cleric – angered by its depiction of Islam as a violent religion – offered his house to anyone who killed the journalists, Reuters reported on Friday.”

Let us not forget, America had no enemies in the Middle East before the birth of the state of Israel. It is Zionist control of our government, and our government’s unwavering support of Israel that have inflamed the Muslim world’s intense hatred for the U.S.

Dear Lord. This is a teaser story on a blog that is ultimately designed to get you to watch the ABC Evening News tonight. Make up your minds…do you all despise the “drive-by” media, or don’t you? One of the people quoted here is Richard Clarke, so NOW you believe what he has to say when it fits YOUR worldview? Good Grief!
If this is indeed an ongoing plot, anmd you believe that the actions of the media undermine the terror-prevention actions, then why aren’t you outraged at Matt Drudge and ABC News for drawing attention to an ongoing investigation? If they hadn’t made any arrests and didn’t want to tip the other side off, they’re sure tipped off now…which is exactly what the President says everytime he rejects the notion of a “timeline for withdrawl.”
For pete’s sake…if everyone on the Right spent 1/10th of the energy they spend on demonizing liberals on informing the public of the real threats, you might actually get somwhere.

Query: The Fort Dix Six were uncovered because a clerk alerted the authorities. How come we NEVER hear about a Moslem who had been approached by terrorists to join them, declined the invitation and alerted the police?
Do the terrorists have 100% success in enlisting others to join them OR no “moderate” Moslem wants to rat out his fellow Islamist?
Just asking.

“Considering terrorism has been around since BEFORE the TIME OF CHRIST. What makes ANYONE believe that the Bush Administration (or anyone) can be rid of it?”
Are you kidding me? Islam was based on the writtings of Mohamed, a supposed “prophet” that came AFTER Jesus died. Wow, left wingers re-writing history again. Get a clue. These people do not understand diplomacy, they understand violence and death. It is unfortunate, but that is the truth. They have been at war for hundreds of years with each other, diplomacy stopped being an option many, many years ago. There are two options here, give in to them and let them push their will upon you, or fight back and use all force necessary to keep you sacred “Seperation of Church and State”, ever seen the governments of oppresive Islamic regeims?
Liberals need to come to face reality, they need to see that this world is a negative place with extremists that want people dead becaus ehtey are not Islamic. And sadly, sitting down with them over pita bread, humus, a couple of incense sticks, and a big fat doobie will not solve this problem. If it is that easy, go talk to them, I am sure they would love to have you.

The record holder for highest approval rating? President George W. Bush, who topped out at 90% in the immediate aftermath of 9/11. His father is the runner-up, with an 89% rating during the first Gulf War. Harry Truman scored 87% in April, 1945, following FDR’s death and during the final stages of World War II. FDR achieved 84% after Pearl Harbor.
The all-time worst numbers belong to Harry Truman (23%), who also holds the record for the biggest range in approval rating. George H. W. Bush eventually sank to 29%. Carter hit 28%, and Nixon was at 24% before he resigned.
Posted by: Tony | May 11, 2007, 1:46 pm 1:46 pm
Here is the bottom line that nobody will tell you. Before 911 and even through today, this country is not prepared for a major terrorist attack. Conventional, chemical, biological, radiological, or nuke, such an attack would put decimate our economy and society. NYC and DC are(were) probably the best prepared cities to deal with such the 911 attacks due to their emergency preparedness and response planning. Take this to a city like Boston or Philly, or other city that does not have such resources and the results would be much worse. Bush made a decision that it is better to fight terrorists on someone elses turf than to be attacked here at home. All the fighting about bad intel and the war is pointless. Yes, it was a bad sales job on getting us into the middle east, but long term US policy (regardless of administration) has been to position enough assets in the region to stabilize the region. The only problem is that up to about four months ago, we were fighting with one hand tied behind our back. This is the one lession we did not learn from Vietnam. If we are going to fight, do what ever is required to win. FDR, Patton, Ike and McArthur, etc all knew this.

Can anyone be sure when Phillip Zelikow and Jaime Gorelick, author of the FBI walls memo were the only one allowed from the 9/11 commission to see Bush’s classified documents. Google their names, that whitewash was a huge waste of money, that’s why there are people who have these conspiracy theories.
What do you say we find common ground and have a real independant investigation of 9/11 and put these conspiracy theories to rest, right?

ARSailorMom, says, “It’s comforting to see all the comments regarding “remember when..”. I thought the world had been proliferated with liberals that think a hug will make all the bad go away.”
Sorry, but you can’t fix anything with bombs and invasions and murder and rape any more than you can with hugs. WHY have conservatives allowed themselves to be defeated by terrorist thugs? They live in absolute terror all the time. Christianity will be gone? We’ll be gone? That is so WEAK! Liberals would never let terrorists control us that way. I am not afraid of them, and I’m not willing to throw away my liberties for them! You are.

“People need to wake up. Terrorism is government sponsered. Investigate 911 for yourself, facts are facts, the twin towers were brought down by bombs.”
Fred… are you serious??? Were you in NYC on 9/11? Did you know anyone there? Did you run for your life when they came crashing down? Were all of your things destroyed by potentially toxic ash? Did you weep for weeks for losing a loved one who couldn’t escape in time? No?? Well I did all of the above things and I can tell you most definitely that planes did in fact fly into those buildings that day… I saw them. Up close. I do not believe the gov’t bombed anything. Perhaps they were a little lax in seeing the warning signs… however, I do not now nor will I ever believe that the gov’t did that to the towers.

Just about the time the Saddam statue was being pulled down by US tank, we were treated to TV reports showing peace activists driving around in jeeps and trying to pursuade Iraqis that the war was unjustified, the Amis are not their friends but were there to rob them of their oil, and they should set up a resistance. That story aired just one day, and then disappeared as though someone gave the order. Does anyone else remember that episode on CNN?
Take your own point from the above

Oh, I see…this is a Bush Admin. attempt at spreading fear, even though his buddies at ABC News reported it – they certainly love to help his cause.
Here’s the bottom line: Liberals in the U.S. are faggots and are destroying my (once) beloved country from within – maybe that’s why they appease Islama-Fags…because they all are out to ruin America. Ever see a liberal anti-war protest? A lot of winners present, huh? Liberals and terrorists go do yourselves a favor and go fuck yourselves. I’m the furthest thing from a Redneck, I’m far more successful than any Liberal ever will be, but it sure is fun talking shit like this. Hey Libs – go have a cryfest with that masculine bitch Harry Reid on your side…”Hey, wait a minute. How dare you question my patriotism! Questioning authority is the most patriotic thing you can do!” Oh, fuck off.

I firmly believe that, were our Founding Fathers alive today, they’d be highly upset with the way the country has been run for the past several decades. My gut instinct is that they’d grab their rifles and ammunition and storm the steps of the White House, the Congress, and the Supreme Court buildings to hunt down and hang anyone even remotely associated with ‘government’ these days, then start over. This country is being sold down the river to greedy corporations and politicians. California is already a Third World state. This WON’T happen in South Carolina! We’re armed, and our powder is dry.

The Muslims have hated the United States since we were founded. Remember the flack about that congressman from Minnesota being sworn in on the Koran? He was right. It did belong to Thomas Jefferson, but Jefferson had it to discover everything he could about Islam. Why? There were Muslim pirates attacking American shipping (remember this was the 1800′s) because we were infidels. They can’t stand our country because we are a free people. With them, it’s totalitarianism, fascism, and/or Islam or it’s nothing.

The democratic government is trying to pull our troops out of Iraq before they can finish their work, which will dishoner those that died in that fight. They want to bring everybody home and let the Iraqies handle things on their own. Handling things on their own is what brought on 9/11 and other such attacks. We have to stay involved in order to protect our rights and freedoms, in order to keep them in their own country instead of ours. Give it away?

It seems to me that every time President Bush looks especially bad, and gets horrific ratings, and desperately needs support there is another imminent attack warning. My take on all this is we are playing right into the terrorist plot. We are draining our treasure and military in an unwinnable war in Iraq. How easy will we be to attack when all of our military and national guard is sucked into Iraq. We will be in debt for this for generations, we will be very easy to pick off later. They are patient, don’t you think? I can’t believe that the powers that be can’t figure this out. What a mess they have got us in to.

It’s just time for you to wake up, America, you have plenty of time to sleep. There was a report a few days ago about arrests taking place in Germany because people were anti-globalists.

The Federal Reserve creates money out of thin air to budget George Bushs war with Iraq. The constitution prohibits anything but gold and silver currency, yet the American dollar is a fiat currency (intrinsically worthless) which means the Federal Reserve is an unconstitutional private bank.

Dierdre,
Fire can and does soften/melt steel structures, particularly if there is no way for the heat to escape. How do you think blacksmiths made steel components in the middle ages? The steel used in these structures was likely a 36ksi ferrite/pearlite microstructure with a melting point of around 2750F. But bear in mind that the steel will lose much of it’s yield strength long before it melts, which will result in the collapse of the structure. It won’t take long with the massive amount of fuel in the wings and few exits for the heat for the temperature to spike up higher than the flame-tip temperature. Also, don’t forget the structural damage surrounding the airliner impact. This compounds the stresses imparted to the adjacent, undamaged structural supports that were only exposed to fire.
But, hey, what do I know, I’m only a metallurgist that works in accident reconstruction and insurance claims/subrogation…

The reasons for 9/11 are the following. Americas economy is now on the verge of collapse. It produces nothing anymore. The Fed Reserve has printed too much money and the currency is being debased too quickly. If America has access to the oil in the Middle East it can take away the control from OPEC and control the global economy. Then it will charge China and India whatever it likes for oil. This is what Wolfowitz meant when he said the Iraq war will pay for itself. 9/11 provided the means to go into Afghanistan and Iraq, and maybe Iran next. This comment was deleted before, maybe it will stay up now.

Terrorists are real, though I am not afraid of them. Bush is hardly an Einstein, but he did not creat this mess. I think history will show that though it was a poor effort in the end, at least he had the right idea and the balls to try and take the fight to them.

Evidently one of the FT. DIX “6″ actually contacted a police officer at the local station to report his suspicions about someone asking for a map of FT. DIX, yet this guy gets arrested also as a “terrorist”?
What gives, I thought that Terrorists generally do NOT go to the local police, but try to keep their activities covert.
This is sounding like another bogus entrapment story. The Albanian community in the U.S. must feel really peeved at this point.

People who believe that the US government blew up the Trade Centers instead of terrorists are some of the dumbest and most hilarious people I have ever heard. One of their leaders was on TV the other day saying that there is no Bin Laden but just a series of actors the US has trained to portray this fictional character. I was literally on the floor rolling with laughter. You padded room dwelling people are always good for a laugh but not for much else.

You sound just like the rest of the neocons out there that just want to keep us down and think we are stupid enough to buy into this terrorist nonsense. The only way for everybody to be protected from terrorists anywhere is for everybody to be armed all the time. Molloy, above, gives a coherent, rational explanation as to why the WTC fell as a result of plane impact. He goes on to say, “But, hey, what do I know, I’m only a metallurgist that works in accident reconstruction and insurance claims/subrogation…”
He must be “one of Them,” right conspiracy nuts?
Seriously, if a house catches on fire, does all the wood turn to ash before it falls? Or does the wood burn a bit, get weakened, and cause the structure to come down? Just a guess, but I’d say the latter is what happens. The steel in the WTC didn’t have to melt to cause the buildings to fall. It only had to be weakened. To believe otherwise is to be guilty of ignoring evidence to fit a predetermined hypothesis.
Am I supposed to believe that the same guy who supposedly orchestrated the biggest conspiracy in the history of the US, is also the same guy who couldn’t have planted a few chemical weapons in Iraq? Riiiight…

Actually, David Smith is accurate. The motivation of the terrorist is to instil fear in the population of a country to the point that the population believes their government can no longer protect them. Then the population is motivated to change the government in a way that the terrorists cannot do with direct warfare with the government. In effect, the terrorist recognizes the natural divide between the government and the governed and uses that split to their advantage. A divided enemy can be beaten- especially if you are able to turn them against themselves.

Peter,
Actually that money does not come from thin air, it comes from the U.S. Bonds that Bush sell’s to China at full cost to suport his war. If they were to get frisky and want to cash in the TRILLIONS of U.S. Bonds they own out right, the U.S would cease to exist. Ask yourself why and then ask yourself if Jefferson was right for us to insite revolution on this currupt government.
If the citizens of America weren’t so busy dealing with their presonal lives, they might figure out how much of their freedoms they have really lost.
The Federal Reserve creates money out of thin air to budget George Bushs war with Iraq. The constitution prohibits anything but gold and silver currency, yet the American dollar is a fiat currency (intrinsically worthless) which means the Federal Reserve is an unconstitutional private bank.

Scott said: “The motivation of the terrorist is to instil fear in the population of a country to the point that the population believes their government can no longer protect them.”
What a load of crap. Only the paranoid right-wing extremists in the US are afraid of the terrorists, or more precisely, the fear-mongering done on behalf of terrorists by the government. The Republicans are ALLOWING Al Qaeda to dictate their foreign policy. They are playing into the hands of the fear because it is profitable for them. They want to keep the troops in Iraq because this is what Al Qaeda wants. Their entire foreign policy outlook is based on REACTING to the terrorists instead of ignoring them as is usually appropriate, or going after the LEADERSHIP (i.e. Bin Laden) as is always appropriate. Everything the Bush administration has done in the ‘war on terror’ is a complete failure, but it is designed to be that way. You cannot have unlmited war profits without an unlimited war from which to profit.

People who critize the Iraq war, are, by and large, merely observing an irrefutable fact: the war is going poorly for us and for the iraqi people. It’s simply true. No spin needed.
And I love my country. I have plenty of self-esteem. And I hate and truly fear terrorism.

Also, if you don’t believe terrorism is real why don’t you go live in one of these other countries and see how long you actually get to enjoy freedom or your own life! Probably not long! If you don’t enjoy protection in America..move out! As for President Bush, I much prefer him over a President who preferred intern’s in blue dresses and playing with cigars! If he would have been doing his job 9/11 may never have happened. - back to the point -
We are being told about about these planned attacks, because we were not told about the attack that happened on 9-11. Bush had a security report that stated it was going to happen.

I’m tired of all the party politics and extremes on both sides, “liberals” and “neocons.” Your agendas and your parties’ spin machines are likely clouding your own reasoning. People should not complain about these announcements. I doubt they are designed to manipulate, except perhaps those that are exaggerated by the media to generate more TV viewing revenues. The threat announcements by the government are given because they are real and were requested. If they were not announced, next time something happened, you’d be complaining that it should have been posted. Meanwhile, “we need to get tough” statements are ridiculous. Do you think we haven’t been? That’s what we’ve been doing by getting into Iraq and it has backfired.

Never said finance was my thing, but i also notice you didn’t dispute the fact that this war is finance by those bonds sold to china and that they really do own a good chunk of our assess as a result.
Question though, China’s ecomony is booming and and with that prosperity we will see an increased valuation of their currency… at least evetually. How then “oh wise one ” does your theory of their economy deteriorating pan out if their actually doing far better than the US globally?
By the way, you only have a job trading stocks because I design, build and secure the machines that allow you to! My remarks were general though so if you feel offended maybe the shoe did fit all to well…huh?

In response to the inane comment above about the WTC towers being “brought down by bombs,” please obtain and review the recent issue of “Popular Mechanics” which conclusively demolishes every single shred of “evidence” that supposedly supports this ridiculous conspiracy theory. 9/11 was the work of Al Qaeda and its allies, and the damage was inflicted solely by hijacked airliners controlled by radical Islamic terrorists.

See? That’s excellent libertarian thinking. Why continue World War I and II thinking (and spending) when the enemy is far-flung and every bit as vicious as any past enemies of democracy. But to house troops in Old Europe and elsewhere is no longer a viable use of taxpayer money. If Germany wouldn’t mind allowing us to keep the hospitals and one airfield to land those requiring medical help, then we could close the garrisons and bring ‘em home.

Even a left wing president like Roosevelt understood that extreme times require extreme measures.
He was correct to round up the Japanese and Italians because even if 99.9% of them were honest hard working people, the .01% that weren’t were a major threat to the US.
We look down on that kind of behavior now, but that’s because we’ve had the luxury of no enemy that could kill hundreds of thousands of Americans or bring down our economy like 1 Muslim extremist with a WMD. We are in Roosevelt’s shoes again, but this time we are making a very big mistake.

Just asking, but what war in this country’s history had so many opponents before it ever got started? My guess is that after Bush won (or was “selected,” if you must) in 2000, ANYTHING he did was going to have an kneejerk opposition, and not least of which was and is aided and abetted by the news media, print, broadcast, internet all.

Please scroll back to read X.Q. Huang, a Chinese said about some American people. I agreed with X.Q. Huang. I am Vietnamese American. I love this country and want all of us to protect our country, our love ones. I have seen here most of American have spelled “the hatred” to their president, their own country. They just wanted to blame Bush, blame everyone. What’s a shame!!! I am sick and tired to read those nonsense words from spoiled American who should learn ‘if one day terrorists won, we are all beheaded like others’, should learn how to unite their people, learn how to support their country, learn how to support Bush no matter what. Bush is trying the best to do his job. It is a very hard job! If you do not support your president, please try to be nicer because he is protecting your homes, your love ones. Bush does not give me any thing and I am collecting unemployment, but I will support him, support our troops. If you go to live in China or in Russia, or other countries you will appreciate what you have here in America! Please Wake up Americans!

A Klinger, I agree that terrorism is a serious problem. What I can’t understand is why the Administration chooses tactics to fight terrorism that, in effect, are actually encouraging recruitment of more terrorists.

Doug,
How can you say what you say….. The reason more people haven’t died in terrorist attacks is because of the things our homeland security and GW have done to prevent the very thing. We should be greatful The US is as safe as it is… The only reason it is because of the things we have in place to prevent such attacks. If we didn’t have the preventative measures we would have experienced A whole different post 9/11… count your blessings and be greatful for what our leaders and government has done to keep us all safe

Ralph wrote, “Just as in the US, more people will die of lightning strikes in Germany than terrorism.”
Are you channeling Al Gore? That statement is complete nonsense! The year is not half over, yet you actually believe that lightning will kill more people in Germany than terrorists? I hope nobody gets hit by lightning, but the chances are greater that some jihadist will off a group or bring down a German building. You can stop an army arranged along set battle lines, but you cannot stop a single attempt to wound or kill if he or she is determined to do it.

You’re right. There probably would have been a kneejerk antiBush reaction for whatever he did, by some people. As I pointed out, people are too into their political side to even think straight about it, much like rabid football fans. Unfortunately, it is not from a kneejerk antiBush reaction that it looks like the approach to Iraq was a big mistake.

All of you so-called “informed” people should really try reading up on the patriot act, and read up on how all your rights are now non-existant. This isn’t an issue about democrats vs. republicans or liberals vs. conservatives, any of you that think so are fools! Both sides have proved to be faliures (1993/2001) Do some research, maybe you’ll learn something for yourself as opposed to relying on fox news or the drudgereport.

All large buildings such as WTC#7 have emergency generators. Sometimes they run on natural gas, but most often they are diesels. The complex I work in is so large that it has 9 emergency generators and diesel fire pumps. Each has a fuel tank which holds between 250 to 1,250 gallons of diesel fuel. If you don’t think that burning diesel fuel can melt steel…you are wrong! Just look at the bridge in California that collapsed recently when a tank truck crashed and exploded. The supporting steel melted and the bridge fell down.
How do I know this? I have 34 years experience in operating and maintaining
1.5 million plus square foot buildings. I have been an Plant Operations Supervisor since 1989. You shouldn’t opine on things you have no knowledge of. Burning diesel fuel stored in fuel tanks deep inside machinery rooms located in large buildings can definitely melt steel if they catch fire and are not quickly put out. Oh yeah, I’m a navy vet too. The terrorist threat it very real as 9/11 proved.

Linda, I agree that there is an element within Islam that wants to subvert Western Civilization. The disagreement I have with Conservatives is in how to accomplish this. As Iraq shows, marching over there and planting our flag on their soil actually INCREASES their hatred and drives more people into the terrorists’ ranks. Instead, I think we need fight this war from within their ranks, in other words, I think this calls for more of a CIA operation than a military one.

Folks, we created Al-quaida as a group to destabilize the middle east. Bush and co., complicit with certain groups of people around the world, are trying to create a globalist agenda. What you see and hear in the news is mostly propaganda. The only thing is the Americans think that their leaders would not propagandize. Think again. Bush Family/Clintons are not on your team. They are all about money and power and their father is the father of lies. They could care less about the troops and less about a constitutional republic under God!

Lotsa comments on this article. Nothing wrong with a warning. A word to the wise is sufficient. It fits the pattern to plan attacks against those countries who have troops in Afghanistan.
I bet the 9/11 victims would have liked to have such a warning; some of them might have heeded it, but they probably wouldn’t have stayed home from work.
There isn’t much victims can do. It’s up to law enforcement and people who give tips like the one who told about the plan to kill people at Fort Dix.

I will never understand why we did divert our attention from Afghanistan, where the monster still laughs at us. Not one Iraqi on the planes that flew into the WT towers.
Something is very wrong with that picture.
AND I agree, all the money so endlessly wasted in Iraq and squandered by unsavory characters, should have gone into protecting our border, harbors and item shipped into the US. If we would not have gone into Iraq, we still would have the Worlds respect, instead of giving birth to more and more terrorists. The brave young man that are stationed in Iraq are not fighting terrorism, they fight a civil war, that we, by large, created.
Blindless faith to a leader of a country promotes dictatorhip. And fear will make the population almost accept anything.
Hitler knew that.

Iran leader is a person who plays a drum and also screams for help. He is the one is going to take his country and his people down. Iran people should remove him from power before Iran’s nuke destroys its own country.

Uh, no, they want 12 million lawbreakers (illeagal aliens) to be allowed to coerce the U.S. to bow to their demands. Well, let’s see maybe the liberals are afraid that the government will take away their constitutional right to own guns? Darn! wrong again. The liberals want the government to take away our last little way to defend ourselves. Oh wait,I know..The liberals are afraid the government might infringe on our traditional foundation values that place God and family ahead of State. It is truly a shame that in this political election arena that not one of the democratic (or, republican for that matter)candidates have taken a greater stand for their own position on how to actually fight terrorism. Why won’t the democratic senate and congress stand up now for a solutions instead of figuring out how much money to spend on campaigning. People are dying, alerts are raising, anger is mounting, fear is building. Yet, we stand idly by waiting for 15(?) candidates to debate over promises they intend to deliver, “If we vote for them”. Understanding that I do not have the answers on what is the right way to handle terrorism but I certainly do not want our elected leaders decisions based on which direction the poll is pointing. I am still not convinced who will truly make a diffference in this time we are living in. Guess we will see who raises enough to buy the golden ticket. Until then, the evening news will help calm my nerves while reporting on the latest terrorist attack.

I agree with closing the US borders, but only once all US citizens, psychopathic marines, US corporations, etc., have returned home. Then shut the borders, isolate them, and don’t let any of them out. The world would be a far happier and much more peaceful place without Americans. Maybe move Israel there too, and then the whole of the Middle East can rebuild and live in peace.

Oh please, stop with the attacks on people’s patriotism because they are not tractable sheep and can think. Liberals or Democrats are not pacifists, they are just not as gullible and naive as you seem to be. Mark Twain said “Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it.” You do not seem to be able to discern the difference between country and government. This government does not deserve the support of the people because it holds the people in contempt. If you were truly sensible, you would not be supporting it or its policies.

I think this alert is definitely part of criminalizing legitimate G8 protests upcoming in the beginning of June. This way people planning on voicing concerns at the G8 can be bundled in with terrorists and have their rights betrayed. Look at recent German news of police raids on facilities organizing protests in Bremen, Berlin and Hamburg. These aren’t terrorists, but the goal is to just fudge the lines for more fearmongering and repression.

I agree with Twae-ji Post. I haved lived in Germany for 4 years now. The security forces here have triple the amount of people at Entry points now, but no one will tell us what specifically the threat is. So living in a country with many soft targets and having been here in the mid 80s (we had a very active terrorist threat then “Red Army Faction” the threats/attacks were almost weekly)I can only continue go about life as I usually do. I know I am 100 times safer here than in any large U.S city. I do not know how this very unspecific threat degenerates the commentary into the left vs right banter. I suppose we see only what we want and any new information only reinforces what we already think.

Unless you live right up the autobahn
from where Americans like me and you could be attacked anyday now, you really truly don’t know what you’re talking about. Around every big holiday (religious and American) we are in real danger. Sometimes they lock down the bases. Your parents beg you not to go out at night for fear that they’ll get that phone call telling them you’ve been kidnapped by terrorists. It must be really easy to be sooo f***ing forgiving when you’re sitting in your nice, cozy living room watching the news from Smalltown, Surburbia, USA. The fact is we are threatened all the time. Usually, it just doesn’t make CNN. If they’re blasting this all over news networks around the world, this is something I will take seriously. Especially living right next door.

My husband is currently serving in Iraq, which leaves me and our 2 children living in Germany…alone. 1st let me start by saying that Americans are neither liked or supported here-only tolerated. Do I feel safe here? NO! We have very little knowledge of what’s going on around us- only what info we receive from the government controlled television station(Armed Forces Network). And that information is very limited and CONTROLLED. As far as the info that security has been heightened in the last month- I have not taken notice of this-aside from the VERY vague message that scrolled at the bottom of our televisions- w/ NO additional information.Does anyone realize that the “security” companies that “guard” our gates are staffed by German’s and very probably other nationalities? How safe does this seem? If and when American’s living in Germany are attacked I for one will not be surprised.

The “Truth Teller”, I think you still do not understand or your “hatred” confused you. Everyone please do not let “hatred” overcomes you. “Hatred” is a symbol of “Evil”, a symbol of “demolisher” as middle east people are facing now. I do not like politics and I do not care about politicians. I always support and behind my parents any under circumstances. I do the same to the country where I live where I have a family, love ones. I would help my father to deal with the fact and fix it rather than judging, cursing and seeing him sinking in water. I see Bush as simple as I see in my family. No matter what Bush did, if it is too late to fix then would you give him your good advices… rather than showing the “hatred”, it does not make any better just make the country looks like “hell”. To the US Military Spouse: First, I salute your husband (and all the troops) in Iraq and you and your family for your service and sacrifice. However, your comment that Americans are not liked or supported here is simply untrue. After 14 years here (most of them quite near major US military sites), I am celebrated as an American far more often than not. Learning German made all the difference. Were you here on 9/11? I was in NYC and returned here to an overwhelming amount of support and sympathy. This latest threat report is measured — we must all, as citizens — simply go about our lives with determination and grit. Germans are as fearful of an attack as an American, believe me.

If you live in America and you do not support your country, your president, and your troops, you let radical Islamists get over you. There will create more terrorists here in your country as we just knew they did it because they admired whatever radical Islamists did. What would happen if the US were able to stop or drastically reduce the importing of Middle East oil??? Yes, we need to fight the terrorist’s on their soil, but what would happen if we were able to unravel their funding and the funding of Iran and other countries that hate the US & Western World? Perhaps we are fighting in the wrong field and should put more effort (here at home) into credible energy solutions as well as conservation. I have to admit that I voted for Bush, but will never vote for a big oil candidate again, be it Republican or Democrat!!! Let’s end the partisanship and be Americans first. I live in Germany, not to far from Stuttgart. This threat is very real and frightening. I can’t believe it finally hit the news, there have been whispers for well over a month now but NO official information. Thank you ABC. I personally do not believe that dissemination of information causes widespread panic, as our government fears. I beleive, however, that information gives us power and reminds us that we must be vigilant in our daily lives and not lacksidasical. I feel this information benefits Americans all over the world. Some of the American families are really freaking out, it is quite humourous to behold. As I said, this should not instill fear, but in so many it does. In this case, the terrorists have already won. I can’t help it that I live in Germany, the Army sent us there. I can do all I can to protect my family while still living my daily life.
Please keep all Americans around the world in your thoughts and prayers, especially those fighting for your freedom.

To the military spouse: My husband is also in the military and I wish you much luck during this deployment. Deployments are tough while living in another country.
I must say that I TOTALLY DISAGREE with you on your statement about our support in Germany. I live in Heidelberg and I belive that the Germans very much accept and appreciate Americans. We have not only gotten a warm welcome in Heidelberg but in numerous other cities in Germany. We don’t know a lot of German but we have certainly tried to learn the language and culture. Yes, Germany is different from the states and the German’s are very different but different is NOT bad or negative in any way. I was told when moving to Germany that “Germans may seem rude at first but once you make friends with them them, they are the best friends you’ll ever have.” During my husbands recent deployment my German neighbors were as wonderful, actually, much better than my American neighbors. My German friends are phenominal! I have several friends that have decided to live in Germany once they got out of the military.
My best advice to you is to change your attitude. I don’t mean that to sound harsh, I say that out of compassion. YOU are the ONLY person that can change the way you feel about something. If you feel scared and disliked then CHANGE that feeling. Think positive things, find what you like about Germany. Make an effort to meet Germans and get to know them. The people in Germany LOVE kids, let your kids get to know the German’s as the wonderful, kind, intelligent and fabulous people that they are. If you don’t change the way you feel, you will stay locked in your house or on the kaserne where you live and you will never experience all of the wonderful things that Germany and Europe has to offer you and that my dear, will be such a shame.
Come on, I know you can do it!!!!

The U.S. military has no business in Germany. If the German government wants to enrage the entire Arab world by supporting and taking sides with the terrorist state of Israel, I think the Arab / Moslims will take every opportunity to get even and only the German people will suffer.

Hey, You are right! You either go with Bush or go with “Terrorists”. Do you have a choice? yes, pick one. Go with Bush you may keep your head up otherwise, keep your head tight.

Didn’t ABCNEWS (or was it Drudge) say that these attacks were ‘imminent’? I wonder if this definition of ‘imminent’ is the same as the one used to describe Saddam’s ‘imminent’ use of WMD. The right-wing extremists in our country sure do have a way with words (even redefining them when necessary).

I grew up in the U.S. believing I was free to come and go as I pleased and now we’re supposed to be afraid to go outdoors! As for Germans-they seem to be more free than we are–at least they don’t take their shoes off at airports….
There are times when I wonder why I stay here….

We have to choose between Bush and the terrorists? How idiotic. Bush is a terrorist. If that is my only choice, themn I’m taking my marbles and going to play with someone else.

The middle east can’t even have babies without birth defects right now, due to depleted Uranium rounds, the radiation is so bad in the Middle East, when a woman gives birth they no longer ask if it’s a boy or a girl, they ask if its normal.

Well, Scott, if you think Bush is a terrorist, if you do not appreciate what you have here in America, if you do not respect your leader then go to middle east and live there for a while then compare “your TRUE FEELING” about terrorism/terrorists. I really dislike Americans who live in their soil, who have not done good things for their country except “BS”, “complaint” and “blame”,… others. Those should learn a very hard lesson for themselves. I also dislike Europeans who criticize America, criticize Bush should learn a very hard lesson too. Well, if Bush take American soldiers home, forget about Iraq or other middle east countries, if terrorists overcome Iraq, then terrorists overcome other countries, soon they get to Europe, wow! please do not “cry” for help. Do not ask Bush for help…anyway, maybe a little too late for it… SO Please wake up and try to be nicer.
love America

After much consideration, I feel we have no recourse but to SUE THE PUBLISHERS OF THE Quran or Koran.
Much trouble has been produced by this book which included lying ,cheating, false oaths, cutting off heads (SMITE the NECK of the UNBELIEVER!)
All in name of a Crescent Moon God who condones and urges. I don’t think the “Book of Satan” or whatever is used for “Black Masses For Lucifer” is as bad as the Quran so suing the publishers out of business whould be doing a great service for the entire world!

DAVID- Rest easy, we will continue to protect you best we can.
PAUL- Could you be wrong about G-8? You see, unfortunately there is more than one group of bad-guys and the vast majority are not as interested in the G8 as you seem to think. Dar al-Islam is a whole different objective. Wish you were right; it would be a lot easier to deal with folks angry over economic policy.
SIMMON G- Where the heck have you been buddy? Come on over and give us a hand, we could sure use your help! It is important to protect folks like David, those who live securely in innocence. By the way, just what is your experience and qualifications fighting terrorism and have you ever served anyone other than yourself?
ERIC- Again, there is more than one group of bad-guys in the world. Sometimes, several groups can use the same tactics to achieve Dar al-Islam. You got to think in a bigger sense guy, but your catching-on.

A German newspaper printed that US and German authorities had been aware of this threat since April 20, 2007. Nothing has changed since. So, ABC, it is old news.

Thank you “Smileypeach”. My son will be going to Germany the end of the month. He brought the ABC news about immenent attacks in Germany to my attention. Of course, I immediately said, stay here. He still wants to go. Having lived in Germany myself before moving to California, I have to confess, Germany seems to be quite a bit safer. Not as safe as it used to be. But the entire world is more dangerous. Don’t let the threats of terrorism and those low life “killers” put a rift between the Europeans and the Americans. We have similar values.
Hope my grammar is correct.

Sorry, getting a little carried away. To US Military spouse. Could the problem be you and your attitude towards the people of the country you currently reside in? How about letting go of your anti-German attitude. You want to blame a whole nation for your situation? And Mike, I hope your son stays safe. The best of luck to your family.

Gee, Americans, violence, and murder…
Who’d of thunk it?

“I don’t have anything new on that.” He continued, “There was recently, within the past couple weeks…a warden message that went out from our embassy asking people in-country to exercise extra vigilance and caution although, at that point, they didn’t have a specific, credible threat, but they were quite concerned.”
Um. What?
