Biden’s Wife Bikes Through Iowa

ABC News’ Sunlen Miller reports: While Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., was in Washington, D.C., Wednesday attending to congressional duties, his wife, Jill Biden, was rolling though the Iowa campaign trail on her bike.

Wearing a ‘Joe Biden for President’ t-shirt, Dr. Jill Biden cycled from Aplington to Cedar Falls, Iowa in the ‘Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa,’ or RAGBRAI, for short.

Jumping in for one day of the week long race, Mrs. Biden rode with three campaign staffers, one of whom was her niece. They called themselves "Team Biden."

While still stretching in her hotel room, Mrs. Biden spoke to ABC News over the phone about joining the ride.

"I’ve been out here in Iowa all summer long and everyone talked about it. I thought, I’ve got to be a part of it, and the people were wonderful," she said.

"People responded to our Biden t-shirts and they came up to me and said, ‘I support your husband’," Mrs. Biden said. "The people like to see the families of the candidates."

Mrs. Biden, an avid exerciser, called the twenty-seven mile bike course a "challenge," joking, "I thought I was in pretty good shape … but I’m a runner, not a biker!"

It’s worth noting that all of the candidates, both Democratic and Republican, were invited by Lance Armstrong to participate and only John Edwards showed up.
