FBI: Iraqis Being Smuggled Across the Rio Grande

The FBI is investigating an alleged human smuggling operation based in Chaparral, N.M., that agents say is bringing "Iraqis and other Middle Eastern" individuals across the Rio Grande from Mexico. An FBI intelligence report distributed by the Washington, D.C. Joint Terrorism Task Force, obtained by the Blotter on ABCNews.com, says the illegal ring has been bringing Iraqis across the border illegally for more than a year. Border Patrol officials in the area said they were unaware of the specifics of the FBI’s report, and federal prosecutors in New Mexico told ABCNews.com they had no current cases involving the illegal smuggling of Iraqis. The FBI report, issued last week, says the smuggling organization "used to smuggle Mexicans, but decided to smuggle Iraqi or other Middle Eastern individuals because it was more lucrative." Each individual would be charged a fee of $20,000 to $25,000, according to the report. The people to be smuggled would "gather at a house on the Mexican side of the border" and then cross the Rio Grande into the U.S., the report says. "Unidentified individuals would then transport them to train stations in El Paso, Texas or Belen, New Mexico," according to the FBI document. A spokesman in Albuquerque said the FBI had "no viable information" that could lead to a case. Until recently, the United States has kept its doors all but shut to the estimated two million refugees fleeing the violence in Iraq. Until this year, the country had taken in fewer than 800 Iraqi refugees, according to the State Department. This May, the Bush administration pledged to resettle 7,000 Iraqi refugees here by the end of the year. This post has been updated. Click Here for Full Blotter Coverage.

The last paragraph makes me shake my head in frustration at an otherwise useful story.
What on earth do you think Iraqis and other Middle Easterners sneaking into the US has to do with refugees fleeing violence in Iraq? Apples and oranges.
If Middle Easterners are coming all the way to Mexico and paying 25k to sneak across the US border, they’re not coming for a career move. Get your head out of the sand.

Real nice. The smuggling of potential terrorists right under the nose of our brilliant commander in chief. Maybe Bush, McCain, and Ted Kennedy can explain all about the advantages of this special kind of “diversity.”
One more 9/11 and I think this country will have had its fill of political correctness, naivety, and general stupidity & incompetence on the part of politicians and bureaucrats.

We have known this has been going on for years now , yet you run this story as though it is a revaluation.
You should be using this space to demand a closure to the BORDER !!
PLEASE DO YOUR PART ON STOPPING THE NEXT ATTACK INSIDE OUR BORDER .This is by pardinson , “OUR” safety .

If one American is killed because George Bush and Michael Chertoff and the Congress and Senate have failed to secure our borders, they should be brought up on complicity to commit murder charges.

Brian Ross appears to be carrying the water for the Administration. Believe me that there are no Iraqis coming over the Mexican border. This is a ploy by the Bushies to set up the next false flag operation on US soil. The revolution is coming soon . . .

If we would have started building the fence on 9/12/01 we wouldn’t have this problem. But because we’re soft and cave in to every crybaby and special interest group we are vulnerable.
All the lefties and the hate America first crowd must be real proud of their accomplishment. The responsibility for the next attack rests squarely on their shoulders.

I think the FBI report goes a long way to substantiating the claim that AQ may use Iraqi AQ to attack in the US, and soon.
I don’t understand how you manage to contrive the story into something about immigration and refugees from Iraq.

We need these Iraqis to perform tasks that Americans are not willing to do!

This is precisely why George Bush must be impeached immediately. He doesn’t care about the security of the united states.
I don’t think the democrats have any answers but Bush has had almost 6 years since 9/11 to close the border. He has failed and violated the oath of his office. He must leave.

Having read these comments what comes to mind is the question of what’s more scary? The outside threat of terrorism, or the inside threat of totalitarianism? People are calling to completely seal off the US borders? What, build a wall around the entire United States? Just the southern border, how about the Canadian border? Create a military police state? Anybody remember the Berlin Wall??? Is that what you want? Shoot anyone who tries to cross over??? Bring up Bush on murder charges??? In case you haven’t heard, Bush OK’d a plan to increase the Border Patrol numbers by 30,000. We already have the military deployed along the border. What more do you want, military check points on every road and highway in the US? Gee, we can be just like the old Soviet Union. Do you have your traveling permit and papers in order comrade??? You don’t mind if we search your vehicle at gunpoint do you, since you have nothing to hide???

Posted by: randy | July 17, 2007, 3:48 pm 3:48 pm

This is impossible. Everybody KNOWS that “We’re fighting them over there so we won’t have to fight them over here”. So obviously, all the terrorists are over there, not here. This is just more liberal mainstream media…Rush and Sean told me so.

Posted by: wilder5121 | July 17, 2007, 3:49 pm 3:49 pm

The Border Patrol, there every day, are “unaware” of such a smuggling operation. Federal prosecutors in New Mexico have no such cases. The FBI in New Mexico has “no comment”.
In the context of these past couple of weeks of totally unsubstantiated “booga booga” propaganda emanating from the oligarchs in Washington, it’s clear that yet another false flag operation is in the works.
When did the former United States become a land of zombies willing to believe anything just because the government said so? When did transparent propaganda become confused with “news”?

SEAL OFF THE BORDERS. If Israel can do it and be successful, so can we. I’m afraid this country is headed for a civil war if our ‘leaders’ continue to sellout. We, the people, are getting fed up.

As a campaign worker for Bush in both elections, he has lost my support over this immigration nonsense! Wow. Middle easterners coming across the Mexican border. Who would have thought THAT would happen?! Until we secure our borders and start sending the criminals back to Mexico and wherever else they came from, we are fooling ourselves thinking that we have ANY Homeland “Security!” You want to come to the U.S.? Get in line in YOUR own country!

Posted by: Me | July 17, 2007, 3:51 pm 3:51 pm

Yay, something else to blame bush for. If I’m not mistaken, aren’t most of the Democrats the ones who pushed to keep our borders open? I hope I am wrong because all these people wouldn’t have anything to complain about.

How sad that congress battles among themselves while we are losing our borders. Sen. Reid and Sen. Kerry are blinded by anger and hate for Bush. I’ve always felt the USA could never be defeated by external powers – we will defeat ourselves from within. When is the last time the Reps and Dems worked together to accomplish anything important? The future looks grim.

As long as the Dept of Justice keeps putting Border Patrol Agents in jail for doing their jobs the bigger the problem gets. Homeland security is nothing but an empire building job creating government boondoggle organization to destroy this country. Living in southern New Mexico we see the results of these clowns. The Congress of this country abets this criminal endeavor. God help us all.

Randy, 30,00 troops along the border is a joke when they’re being arrested on a regular basis for doing their job! Their hands are tied just like our soldiers’ hands are tied in Iraq and Afghanistan. It’s for show, Randy. Bush has to look like he’s doing something. He actually is seeking no borders – one continent. It’s in the works. He’s following in his Dad’s footsteps. We have NO border patrol.

Had the Americans’ rulers lived up to the reputation given them by their own Left, they would have taken the oil fields of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, and Iran, rather than tie themselves down in trying to reform broken countries. They would have made the turnover of Saudi wealth a condition for the Saudi “princes’” lives. They would have increased their wealth while impoverishing their enemies. They would have paid for their wars, their recovery from 9/11, and their border security from their new oil revenues, and they would have annexed OPEC’s former power to their own.
That the Americans’ rulers didn’t take this course is evidence they’re not the crafty men their Left says they are. Instead, their lack of flexibility impairs their prudence in defense of liberty.

First, Probably Bush and Neocons are lying to us to get support to stay in Iraq to “fight them over there, not here.” Its all manipulation and lies. IF not, he is completely incompetent if this has been “going on for one year” and the border patrol knows less than Abc news. If THAT is the case, bush and cheney should be impeached. Word…

Border control throughout the West is fast becoming an issue of national survival. How can we possibly continue to exist as long as we accept millions upon millions of 3rd world foreigners into our midsts each year? Do we have no interest in national and cultural survival?
The nations of the 3rd world MUST be forced to face the issues in their own countries. As long as the West serves as a relief valve the required societal pressures won’t build to critical mass such that change can take place. It is in the best interest of the 3rd world as well as ourselves if we shut the doors.

Just another story to go along with Chertoff’s gut feeling. Scare the people silly and then watch them give up everything to secure their safety. The freaking border patrol is unaware of this so called behavior. Show some evidence, until then this is nothing more than propaganda.

I’m afraid the legacy of the Bush administration and the other Democrats might be another 9/11 that will be 3-4 times worse than the first one. While we spent hundreds of billions of dollars fighting terrorists in the Middle East, Bush and Congress left our back door open for the terrorists to walk in freely and then attempted to give amnesty to 12+ million, failed to secure the border, and virtually guaranteed that potential terrorists would be lost in the shuffle. Just great!

Please tell me someone didn’t just say we can close off our borders as easily as Israel. Ask families of those killed by suicide bombers in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa how well “totally sealed borders” worked to save their loved ones. Have you considered the complexity of such a completely absurd thought, given geographic size disparities, greater relative oceanic borders, trade differential (i.e., infinitely greater port traffic) in the U.S.? Israel is 1/25 the size of Texas alone. Your comment only serves to illuminate the vast reactionary ignorance of they average American, and is an embarrassment to the rest of us who call ourselves Americans.

We are geographically isolated from all the people that intend to do us harm. It is completely unfathomable to me that we act like we are powerless to control illegal entry into this country. Secure the borders (2 of them). Freeze immigration, prosecute illegal immigration, deport everyone that appears on a terrorist watch list, prosecute those that preach destruction of America and Americans (sorry PC people – that’s a crime) etc. This is so insane it is pathetic. Mexico screams if we encroach 12 inches into their country. Why are we such wimps? We owe the world nothing. It seems everybody else comes first except for American citizens and we are being sold out. I just don’t understand why.

They’re asleep. Sad to say, but everyone will be awake when the terrorists, who surely are in this country already, strike, and strike again. Those peace-loving people, they.

Seems like when politicians smell money these days it’s like when sharks smell blood. Forget you – the electorate! They all are working to fill their own coffers.
How on earth do these same politicians keep getting re-elected over and over again when they keep doing stupid and wrong things against good, loyal and patriotic American citizens? When are we going to flat VOTE OUT all the incumbents? Lets do it this next election cycle!

I want Chertoff and Gonzalez fired – NOW! We have been screaming to the Bush administration to protect our borders and to enforce our immigration laws. But NO, Chertoff refuses to build the fence – only 13 miles have been built and that measley 13 miles is the wrong type – not a double fence as was designed. Attorney General Gonzalez not only does NOT prosecute those who violate our immigration laws, he uses illegal alien drug smugglers as witnesses against our Border Patrol Agents in order to shut them down and protect the illegal aliens and drug smugglers – and TERRORISTS SMUGGLERS!! Chertoff openly scoffs and said the job was too big. Chertoff should have been fired long ago – he is worse than Tom Ridge on border security and that is saying a lot. If the terrorists hit us, Bush, Gonzalez, and Chertoff must be held accountable for openly endangering our citizens and refusing to uphold our immigration laws. But, why wait?

This is not just a Bush issue with the border! Aren’t you people just a little sick of both parties not securing the border. Lets hope someone runs on the independent party that cares about what the American people have continuously stated and that CLOSE OUR BORDERS NOW, then lets figure out what to do with the illegal problem.

And you think all of sudden we’re going to stop the flow of people? Pul-eeze, wake up!! Our borders our porous and always have been. SEALING OFF THE BORDER IS THEE BIGGEST issue we need to deal with. Bush is a traitor to this country because he doesn’t want it any more. He wants a continent, not a country. Get the vision, people. Vote in the next election for someone who still actually wants a country. Let’s see…who would that be… WE must save this country or it’s done for. America is going to be the next fallen Roman Empire. A third world country.

Posted by: joe | July 17, 2007, 4:25 pm 4:25 pm

Our government just recently told us that the terrorists are plotting to get into the U.S. We all know the easiest way to get in is just to walk across the border with the other millions of illegal immigrants. We know that our government is not putting a fence up and now they’re telling us that middle easterner’s are now and have been smuggled across the border. That’s like hiring a security company to guard your estate and build a fence around your estate to help secure it. Then a few weeks later they tell you that they have information that bad guys are plotting to break into your estate.
Then a few weeks later you realize they don’t even have one percent of the fence put up. Then on another day they tell you that some of the bad guys have already and still are coming onto your estate. Question, at what point do you fire the security company. Why are we paying all this money for security? The reason this is happening is because we can’t fire the people in our government that run our security, as easy and as quick as we can fire a private security firm.

Iraqis have been sneaking across for over a year?! We should have had massive security down there when that information was found out. As an American citizen I am outraged that we have been put in such a vulnerable position. There is a solution to terrorism but we haven’t followed Israel’s example. Whoever said something about the Berlin Wall- Yes we need a freaking wall but it should have been put up years ago. Time for an Americans First party.

Meanwhile, Clinton did absolutely everything he could to put our country in this situation. Cuts to our military, cuts in our intel, not going after Osama in 97 and signing a preferred trading treaty with China which now has 60%+ of our manufacturing and is a communist country who in itself is conducting a secret war against the US. For all you Republicans accusing Democrats of pushing for illegal immigrant amnesty: Yes…some of them do and they’re WRONG. But let’s not forget, it was RONALD REAGAN who pushed through the 1986 amnesty of 3 million illegals…and GEORGE W BUSH who tried pushing through this latest amnesty for 12 million. It seems to be REPUBLICAN presidents who are doing the pushing…and if they didn’t, this issue wouldn’t be an issue. I was there when Reagan did this in 1986, I was furious then and still am…and that’s why I’ll NEVER vote for a Republican again. Ever.

Posted by: wilder5121 | July 17, 2007, 4:34 pm 4:34 pm

Hey Stuart,
In case you haven’t heard, the number of illegal immigrants in our country has tripled since 1995 from 5 million to somewhere between 12 million and 20 million, not counting 300,000 babies born per year who are illegally granted citizenship based on a gross misinterpretation of the 14 amendment. Since 1970, more than 30 million legal and illegal immigrants have settled in the U.S., representing more than one-third of all people ever to come to America’s shores. Since 1990, the United States has averaged 500,000 new illegal immigrants per year. Since 2000, we have added more than 1 million new legal immigrants per year. The present level of immigration, both legal and illegal, is significantly higher than the average historical level of immigration. The National Research Council estimates that by 2050, current immigration policies will cause the population of the United States to be fully 80 million larger than without immigration, triple the population growth that would take place naturally without immigration. In less than 50 years, 2050, the U.S. Census Bureau projects that immigration will cause the population of the United States to increase from its present 288 million to more than 400 million.

A group of radical Islamic terrorists have been smuggled into the U.S. by Mexican coyotes who don’t care because they are paid good money. The group eventually splits up into smaller cells that go on to attack Americans in shopping malls across the country.

Has anyone ever thought that it is strange that the Bush family is close to the Saudi Royal Family, that 45% of foreign fighters (AlQuida) in Iraq are Saudi’s. Why did we really invade IraQ?? Why did our military quit the hunt for Osama Bin Laden? Why has George Bush fought so hard to keep the border with Mexico open, knowing that not only Mexicans and drugs, but other things too! Like terrorists, weapons, explosives? Or as a well known terrorist boasted that he would smuggle a Nuclear Bomb into the United States across the border with Mexico and detonate it! George Bush did sign a bill to build a 200 mile fence, but no money to build it!

Posted by: Sandman | July 17, 2007, 4:39 pm 4:39 pm

Julie asks “Why would terrorist use the Mexican border to cross into America when they could just drive across the Canadian border?”
Answer: Think about it, a terrorist does not want to be known, face on film, monies carried not questioned about and what ever weapons not confiscated.
Terrorists don’t want us to know how many are arriving, where they are going or staying. Coming up from South America where they have a few bases now, is the perfect route for them.

Posted by: Ron | July 17, 2007, 4:39 pm 4:39 pm

Posted by: Mark | July 17, 2007, 4:40 pm 4:40 pm

The reason the border isn’t secure right now is because the drug trade (90% of the cocaine alone entering the U.S. comes across the Mexican border) is more important than securing our borders. Stop the drugs, the border will mysteriously become secure. :-) There are too many government servants on the take unfortunately. It’s sad. You can’t make the drugs legal, because then alot of people (lawyers, judges, court professions and politicians, etc.) would be out of their money. Very sad. I have my horse and lantern (one by land two by sea) ready and standing by :-)

It’s interesting and sad that most of the posters here made the assumption that Iraqis sneaking into the US must be terrorists. I know there are tens of thousands of Iraqis that live in Metro Detroit, many of them Catholics. Christian Iraqis have always faced persecution in Iraq, and that has only heightened over the past four years. They are stuck in the middle of the Sunnis and the Shiites and there is now no place for them to hide. Many Iraqi refugees are probably trying to get to the U.S. to join relatives who are among the tens of thousands of Iraqis living in the U.S. Remember people, there were no “Iraqi terrorists” involved in 911, and Al Qaeda is made up largely of non-Iraqis. Iraqis are too busy fighting their own civl war in Iraq ro become “terrorists” targeting Americans on American soil. So many of these comments reflect the ignorance of uneducated Republicans who still cling to the notion that Iraq had anything to do whatsoever to 911. Whenever there is civil war, there are refugees. They have to go somewhere – why wouldn’t some of them be trying to come here? It doesn’t make them terrorists. You may want the borders to be secure, but don’t assume that Iraqi refugees are terrorists. That’s just plain stupid.

I did some longline fishing in the Bering Sea. We could put out several miles of line in a few hours. It seems like you could do the same on the U.S. side of the Rio Grande as a temporary, relatively inexpensive barrier until the ‘fence’ gets finished in 3025. Of course, instead of poly rope, maybe a bouy supported barbed rope/net barrier of some sort. Not impenetrable, but effective in slowing the pace substantially. The only boaters using the waterway are protesters to the fence from what I’ve read.

I would just like to point out that America’s problem with terrorism today, is due to the Republican policy of the last few decades. Two separate Bushes starting two separate wars on Iraq is the only reason why today their are Iraqi’s sneaking into America with terrorism on their minds. On top of all the excuses for the Iraq war that have been proven baseless, we just find out this week that Al Qaeda is back up to pre 9/11 strength. The Republicans had a monopoly on our government for the first five years after 9/11 and look how much they got done! I can’t understand how their can be so much angst against liberals right now when the whole time frame from 9/11 till last November they didn’t have any say in our government.

What terrorist, almost all of the supposed 9/11 terrorist were later proven to be alive and well. Mr Atta was well known to both FBI and CIA. My bet is that if there are real live terrorist in the US they have been here with the knowledge of the US government, and more than likely have been trained by the same. If you ever spent any time on the MEX / US border as I have down around Douglas, Az, it is a common occurrence to watch foot traffic cross the border within 100 feet of Border Patrol officers, with 0 interference. The US government didn’t care then and it dosen’t care now. Did you know that less than 1% of Homeland defense day in day out activities has anything to do with terrorism. Then, what about the next 10-15 million who are found to be here illegally in the next few years? Legalize them too so we know who they are? Come on! It’s got to stop now!

Throw every bum that voted for amnesty out regardless of party. We will secure our borders if we have to do it ourselves. Bush won’t protect us because he wants an EU style treaty with Canada and Mexico. We should go into Mexico and topple that government and annex Baja to Calif. to pay for the millions of people living off the dole.

Worthy of a repeat: Bush is a failure. If he wanted to, with the stroke of a pen, he could militarize the border in the short term while a fence is built. Case closed. But he wants one country from Mexico’s southern border to the Pole and WILL NOT protect and defend this country.
The fact is, there is NOTHING we can do about it- the fate of this country is in the hands of people who are betraying it. Instead of statesmen, we have politicians. Instead of patriots, we have traitors…

843 miles of double-layer fencing was authorized last year.
–Since then, only 13 miles of fencing has been built.
If that isn’t shocking enough…
NONE of those 13 miles are double-layer — the very type of fence authorized by Congress and proven to work on the border! Not only is the Administration dragging their feet to build the fence, the little bit of fence they are building isn’t what was promised to the American people! The reason why they are not securing our borders is that no one wants to have to deal with what is going to happen in our cities and suburbs once the drugs are cut off. The dirty secret is that most illicit drugs in the US come over the Mexican border. We have over ten million severe drug addicts in the US and when their drug supply dries up over a period of a month, it is going to be an ugly scene. Cities will burn. The politicians don’t want this to happen on their watch so they are in the absurd position of looking for a way to secure the borders and still let the drugs through.

The last country that I remember that lost total control of it’s own borders, was the last dynasty of China. That allowed the British to smuggle opium into China by the shipload. It totally destroyed the country. Why should we allow the USA to be destroyed from within this way. unrestricted emigration and drugs smuggled into our country will destroy the country. Wait until we get thirty or forty car bombs going off in NYC, Boston, Disney world, Ect. during Macys Thanksgiving parade, A Rock concert, or at a school. Wake UP! Mine the border if you have to, but put an end to a porous border.

A sure-fire way to get elected President is to run on this one issue: illegal immigration. The VAST majority of Americans have had it with the utter disregard for border security, but the media scarcely give this fact any attention. If one of the candidates makes securing our borders the central issue, I guarantee that candidate will win in a landslide. And the always-ignorant media will be aghast at how such an overwhelming victory could have occurred.
Are you listening, Fred Thompson?

Undoubtedly, we will be attacked again. The question is how bad will the attack, or attacks have to be before EVERYONE IN AMERICA is on the same side again. Does it have to be nuclear? Multiple-nuclear? At some point, all the libs and all the far righties will be united. It’s scary to think that one day that might happen, but it will. Will it be too late though?
Some day, when America is nearly crippled through attacks launched by foreigners on our home soil, the people will take back justice. The solution will be simple then. Look at the person to the left of you, to the right of you, what do you have in common with them? Are they your friend? What religion are they? Where do they come from? Where do you come from?

I have read many many of the comments here. Some make me laugh, some make me angry and some I agree with. However, the fact of the matter is that our boarders and our country is getting out of control. I believe another 911 attack will happen here again and maybe soon. Locking down the boarders isn’t the solution but letting the people that guard them is. Our very own police and border agents actually are handcuffed. They are not allowed to do much if anything. This is crazy. Let the people do the jobs as they were trained to do here and in everywhere else and the problem will go away fast. If not, I believe we will be headed towards another Revolution in our time.

We deported lots of illegals after WWII and later in the 60′s when the government put bounties on illegals. We can do it again. I live in Texas and on 9/11 I went to the Border at Del Rio; it was NEVER closed, that day nor any other. It doesn’t seem like our Government has the will to keep the USA sovereign. (See: Old Roman Empire)

This proves that refusing to deal with illegal immigration isn’t a solution. There was much glee defeating Bush’s Surrender American Sovereignty Act. Bush finally got democrats to work with him. Doing nothing isn’t facing the problem ether. We know what people are against. Removing twelve million people is a monumental task. We don’t have the resources: guards, buses housing. Leaving these people to starve in Mexico may reflect conservative values; this doesn’t reflect American or Christian values.

We’ve all the seen the videos and heard all the news about people jumping, walking and driving across the border for about what 30 years now? But it’s funny how we always blame whatever Administration and President (Bush, Clinton, Reagan, Carter hey even Teddy Roosevelt) but we (all Americans) never really do anything. It easy to say whats wrong and what needs to be done (just like Democrats always do) but what about fixing it! No doubt, smuggling over the border is one way to get terrorist into this country, but since AQ has millions of dollars to accomplish its mission, don’t you think they could come up with a more secure and less risky way of doing it?

Let the average American do it, if they are willing to stand the terrain or temps in the desert, then we’ll see how important it is to them! Let all Americans guard their border, I’m quite sure the rate of illegals crossing the border would drop after they are treated to some real American hospitality. But really since most Americans are lazy and care only about themselves, they’d probably go out and hire cheap labor replacements to do the job for them, maybe some illegals could do it cheaper?

We need to grow up and start saying “no” to the mental babies in the country. It is costing us far too much in so many policy areas.

I live in the New Mexico area, not far from Chaparral, N.M.,
I wonder when the U.S. government is going to get serious about protecting the American people from terrorism?
The border must be closed off first, then those that break the law by hiring illegals have to be stopped. I am a Mexican American who was born an American citizen and I feel that no one can condone breaking the laws of this nation. Terrorists are free to cross the border and people that are my neighbors have to be concerned about their security because the federal government refuses to do its job to protect us. The two Border Agents should not be in prison, they had every right to stop the drug smuggler and take away one employee from the blood thirsty drug terrorists from Mexico.

We have had several administrations over 20+ years to deal with this problem but we have had only one administration since 911. Furthermore, Bush has shown a total inability to control any border (Iraqi or US). If we get hit by a terrorist that has crossed the Mexican border then he should be impeached.

And this is new? Various Islamist groups have been shipping whoile terrorist cells into this country via India, using the H1-B and L1 visas, for years now. They, in turn, have stolen everything from the plans for the B1 and B2 bombers to our stealth technology, to knowledge of our entire infrastructure (inclusing information on banking, telecommunications, and power grids). Someday, and remember these are *very* smart people, well educated engineers, who have had unfettered access to virtually all of our technology, they will simply turn out the lights and wreck havoc here. You can thank Bill Gates, Hillary Clinton, Senator Kennedy, Dick Cheney, George W. Buch, and the entire gang of globalizers and “free traitors” for this.

Is this a surprise? We’ve been hearing stories like this in CA ever since 9/11, and the numbers are increasing.
Border Patrol agents have been told NOT to do their jobs, and when they do, they get into trouble. It’s ridiculous.
I have read many posts here that believe that it will take another 9/11 to wake up the US Citizens. I don’t know about that–the US Citizens are far too wrapped up the left wing-set-up–after the dumbing down of education and the removal of historical fact from our school curriculums, all the average American citizen seems to care about is the news on Paris Hilton, the rap-music culture, and the self-serving goverenmental handouts. The average American citizen doesn’t understand politics, taxes, socialism, the European Union and the pushed-for (and the reason our borders are not closed) upcoming American Union.
Clinton and then Bush made agreements with the Mexican and Canadian governments to keep the borders OPEN– “HELLO”. That’s why you’ll never see them closed anytime soon.

It just blows me away that the twin towers have now been attacked twice by muslim extremists and yet there are still american citizens that want open borders. My sister was in the towers both times and luckily survived.Unfortunatly some of my close friends died on 9-11.These people obviously want to end are way of life.It is inevitable that we will be attacked again and more americans will die.We are the only country in the world that has open borders. All I can hope for is that when we are attacked again in this country it will be the sons, daughters and friends of the left wing open border people that die in the attack.Maybe then they will realize the reality of whats going on.BUILD THE FENCE!!!!!

This is no big deal. It’s simply hard working illegal immigrants coming across the border doing jobs Americans don’t want to do, like nuke American cities. It’s dirty work, but if your an Islamist, somebody has to do it. Let’s be sure to get some Iranians in, too, or the job may not get done. Grab a lawn chair and a beer, have a comfortable seat outside and watch that beautiful mushroom cloud bloom over your city.
This is dereliction of duty and dereliction of the Oath of Office by the President, Congress and the Senate and heads of divisions in The Office of Homeland Security.
Open borders = no country. That’s what they are giving us at the very least. I’m afraid what we will get will be very much worse than simply no country.

We are having the longest presidential race in our history.
Security is not on the minds of the democratic contenders. Why do I say that? Name one bill that has PASSED and been signed that was authored by Obama, Clinton or Edwards (before he quit the Senate). Just rhetoric. They are more interested in getting elected than actually doing something that might be controversial.
Also, listen to Harry Reid. He now sounds like Schumer…. neutered. I can not believe he comes from the West. He needs to turn in his boots.

All of you who believe that these are poor innocent Iraqi’s fleeing an unjustified war in their country are foolish, and seemingly accepting that illegal immigration is OK if it’s for a good reason. Wake the hell up! They’re all illegal immigrants -and should be dealt with as such. Catch them and DEPORT them! The story demonstrates how insecure our borders are, and anyone who thinks this is O.K., or thinks this is some part of a grand plan by the Bushies should put down the Bong!

All the more reason to bring the troops home from Iraq, and anywhere else in the world! We need them here to patrol the borders, provide security at airports, and be a constant reassuring presence to the United States citizens on our own soil. We appreciate their sacrifice over the last 6 years; we’d appreciate them more if they were protecting us at home!

If an elected official lives beyond middle class then he is not protecting and serving america, he is a buisness man serving himself and that is how this whole thing started. The border, the war, and everything else that makes life harder on the american taxpayer..oh, and taxes too.

That’s odd? To cross the Rio Grande into Chaparral, NM, they would already have been in the US for the past 20+ miles or so and passed through 4 to 6 other towns which I’m sure all have bus stations. Oh, the Belen bus station is another 150 or 200 miles on up the Rio Grande, almost in Albuquerque? This story is short on just about everything.

So many Americans want things fixed, but they dont do anything but whine about it in blogs. So, join the Border patrol, join the US military join your local Police agency, organize boycotts against companies who actively hire illegals, you might even try VOTING. Make a difference and stop complaing about politicians doing nothing. I am not against immigration, I am against ILLEGAL immigration. I am for English as a national language too. I cant believe I have to “Press 2″ for English in my own country. If you think we should be diverse try going to France and insist everything there be written in English just for you and have the French press 2 for French. Go to any non-English speaking country and insist on that and see what happens. The real truth is, non-Americans/illegals should not be afforded the same rights and privledges as Americans. To lower our standards like that is a slap in the face to every military man and women who served and those who died defending the rights and freedoms of Americans, not illegal aliens. To sum it up, I went to Bank of America the other day and read a sign, “Happy 4th of July” in Spanish and English. What is happening to our country? Is it still really our country? Thanks!

This article is propaganda to increase the budget for homeland insecurity and to take away more civil liberties for those of us who live in this used-to-be-great country. If securing the border for security is really the issue, then why is that the longest border we share is so very very much ignored. In addition, human trafficking is still a common practice out of many Asian countries, and the majority get shipped over here to the great U.S. of A.
This whole article is a waste of time and is just a diversion to steer the public away from the real issues. This is our governments scare tactics in full effect. The real war is removing the wool over America’s eyes.

Hey Andy, your July 17th post actually says “if one American is killed because George Bush and Michael Chertoff and the Congress and Senate have failed to secure our borders, they should be brought up on complicity to commit murder charges.”
Dude…you can’t be serious. Do you actually think this whole terrorit problem is that simplistic? George got em mad and now they want to get us, but George can’t stop them? Come on…that is ridiculous, if you actually studied the issue at hand, its been going on for YEARS under many administrations, both republican and democrat. The Senate & House share equal “blame” for playing politics with this whole issue…and its been going on and developing for many years. If Bush is “complicit”, then so is Clinton, Bush senior, Reagan, Carter etc…and all of the Senators and House that have “played politics” with this stuff for the past 20 years or so…simplistic arguments serve no purpose other than to deny that a long time stratedgy of Muslim extremists has been to de-throne the USA and the Western European nations and Isreal (of course), they see us as “infidels” againest what “they believe” Allah wants…and “in their minds” blowing up innocent people thru terrorist acts is perfectly legit…fear is their weapon…and no peaceful resolution is an option “to them”…so stop blaming and playing the victim bro…enter the discussion with some knowledge, some facts, some clue of an idea about what is really going on. You sound like a 3rd grader…

The real problem with illegal immigration and unprincipled politicians, who won’t act to defend America, is that they are more interested in being reelected than doing what’s best for America. They don’t want to be be on record voting to control the border if they think they might lose a few Latino votes. McCain has pandered to illegals for years. Don’t expect Congress to defend this country unless threatened by the electorate in an election within the next year or so.

Posted by: Fred | July 17, 2007, 7:24 pm 7:24 pm

I can’t think of anyone on either side of the aisle who’s been against securing the border, the whole immigration debate was over what to do about the illegals already here (the ‘amnesty’ debate). Yet somehow, the failure of a Republican White House and Congress from 9/11 until last November to secure the borders is the Democrats’ fault?
Own and recognize your hate, people. On both sides, I hear nothing but haters who would rather let Osama Bin Laden go free than say a kind word about Clinton or Bush (depending on which side of the aisle you hail from).
Both parties are ultimately bloated, self-serving and incompetent. Hate away, it just makes us weaker as a nation.

How to get Washington, D. C.’s attention. Schedule a massive, nation wide, “Blue collar” sick week which will reduce income tax owed to the federal gov. All taxpapers in America should go on strike until the borders are secure.

Any illegal foreigners that are caught should have a choice. They can serve 10 years in the military or return to their country of origin. Mexico should be billed for the billions our country shells out for all of these illegals. If they are coming from other countries, then bill those countries also. When the Miss World or whatever it was beauty pageant was held in Mexico City, the audience booed Miss USA. If that had happened in our country and we were the host we would still be apologizing to the offended country. Oh but that’s right, we are Americans – the rule is we can be offended but we can’t offend. We must be politically correct and watch what we say at all times. I don’t appreciate my hard-earned tax dollars going to someone who hates me and can bring over there 8 children, grandma, 5 sisters and 9 brothers but that is exactly what we are all doing. They’re not picking fruit folks, they’ve got a sweet deal and so do any other illegal foreigners. How about amnesty for us Americans that OBEY THE LAW.

Posted by: Chi Vikos | July 17, 2007, 7:35 pm 7:35 pm

Let’s see now. We had more than 30 years to create a system to prevent hijackings by making locked cockpits mandatory. Our government ignored credible warnings from all over the world about a 9-11 attack. We failed to properly track A/Q or persons within this country with known terrorist backgrounds, incredibly ignoring flight training by these individuals. On 9-11, the air force never scrambled to protect the Capital, one building collapsed even though the jet fuel exploded outside the building, another (WT7) collapsed uniformly, although never hit by a plane, etc. etc. Was anyone held accountable for these massive failures throughout the government? Would a real leader get us in a costly no-win war against a country who really had nothing to do with the attack? No, a real leader would have laid waste to the top echelon of our intelligence agencies, the military and FBI; researched where the A/Q cells were and gone after them; shut the borders and done everything possible to prevent infiltration. The world would have applauded and understood ‘special ops’ around the world to go after the terrorists. This is not a Dem vs Rep issue. Unfortunately, we have become a nation of paranoid gutless sheep. We elect the same people from the same parties over and over, yet we are suprised at the results? It is clear to me that a majority of people in this country no longer believe in our constitution or our individual liberties in the Bill of Rights – what a shame

For Tom and everyone else:
Not only did we round up the Japanese, but also the Germans in WWII (see Crystal City, Texas); all in the name of National Security. We deported all illegals the US could find so the troops coming home could have jobs, too. If the US wants to, it can do it again. We have the resources (if we’d use them) and the technology to secure our borders and NATION as a whole (we mustn’t forget about the Heartland). For the naysayers: I live in Texas and see what illegal immigration is about firsthand. And I volunteered and served in the US Army. This is not about racism, it’s about our sovereignty.

I honestly don’t know what to make of this story and/or the FBI report. Is the report intended to be some kind of pro-war, scare tactic propaganda? Or is it anti-immigration reform, anti-Mexican propaganda? It could be FBI incompetence in the writing of the report? Or perhaps it’s incompetence on the part of ABC and/or Brian Ross in reporting about the report.
But at this point, all I know with certainty is that there are absolutely **no** train stations in either El Paso, Texas or Belen, NM!?!?! Bus stations, yes. Train stations, no. You can get an Amtrak ticket from both locations, but the trip incorporates taking a Greyhound bus to a train station (i.e., the one Albuquerque).

To Brian O….well put. The overall technocratic/corporate agenda has been one of world wide exploitation since the first trade routes were established and armies began to march behind then in front of the merchants. People will move, must move to areas of greater opportunity and social benefit. Sadly the operant conditions have been exploitation and neglect with not moral or long term concern for indigenous peoples or species.
Ya bloody well need a market to sell to so doesn’t it make sense to protect and nurture every possible citizen and future consumer….to everyone’s benefit!

This country is finished. Like the fall of Troy and Rome. It is inevitable. Every Empire must end. So the Earth, will fall. $20,000??? Iraqi refugee don’t have Two DOLLARS much lest 20K. They’ve left Iraq with little and used that to survive in Syria and Jordan, and Turkey and Egypt.
It’s way, way past time to patrol and control our border. Its time for Washington to care about our safety and security, and quit dwelling (and trying to distract us)on the sleezy habits of some of our congress.

Anyone, esp in Texas, hear about a huge transportation corridor being planned, four football fields wide and running from ports in Southern Mexico up into Canada? A way to bypass the union workers in California ports, it will allow more Chinese containers and Mexican truck drivers to flow swiftly into the country? It would also bypass a lot of OSHA regulations, etc. While I do not agree clerical workers in the US ports should pull down $100K/yr., I worry about terrorists messing with or hiding in containers, and also sub-professional Mexican truck drivers on our roads.

Could you really blame the Iraqis even if they actually were sneaking into our country to try to do harm?! We are COLONIZING their country and KILLING their children!! If someone invaded the US for no REAL reason (no WMD in Iraq and they were NOT involved in 9-11) I can tell you for sure we would be angry enough to take “terrorist” action ourselves.

the defeated immigration bill offered $5000 for each illegal to expedite the naturalization process and the smugglers are charging $20,000 to $25,000 per middle easterner that they’re smuggling over the border? not only are the constitutional (common defense) rights of every american citizen being threatened, but our own congress is trying to replace the english speaking u. s. population with non-english speakers to get votes and grow government.
there’s serious moral hazard and illegal activity going on in washington d. c. being perpetrated by each and every supporter of the immigration bill that got killed. they’re in league with the drug and human smugglers. the immigration bill supporters are the true criminals in the united states.

Living in the Southwest US, I have seen the constant increase and flow of all types of illegals, OTM, and believe me, they are causing much more American death and destruction than all the soldiers lost in Irag. Murder is rampant in some areas that were peaceful just a few years ago. Rapes are rising. Thefts, car wrecks via drunk driving and car jackings increasing, etc. etc. Oh yea, hospitals, schools, and county/state budgets are bursting. It wass more like a quiet terrorist movement that isn’t so quiet anymore. Across America small towns to large cities are paying a huge price for this invasion, and my current city is bursting at the seams with over 300,000 illegals. What was middle class, quiet neighborhoods are now slums and crime infested multi-national, enter-at-your-own-risk lands.
I am sadden to think that it is going to take a mushroom cloud over an American city before we collectively wake up to the reality of the enemy at our gates. Or, a national uprising and maybe civil war. Either way, America is poised to fall or die a cancerous death if something serious and soon isn’t done. Myself, I am prepared for the day I have to fight to reclaim my country.

Most of you are right, but every 20 years we’ve kept dolling out amnesty, Republican or Democrat in office…1964, 1946 and so on. But yes, you can blame the open borders crowd for failing in this area, that includes most liberals and a few Republicans(they aren’t conservatives trust me.)

If all of you who have posted are really as concerned as you say you are, then you must take this issue further by requiring your congressmen and women, your Senators, and your presidential candidates to fully define their position on border security.
The people rose up in a historic move to stop the immigration bill, yet the national media refuses to question our elected officials and candidates. Why has the media been so silent when it is obvious that border security is so important to the American people? We need to hold the media to the fire so that they hold our elected officials to the fire on this issue.

LISTEN UP MY FELLOW AMERICANS!!!
We are all being hood-winked. All of this partisan bickering (Left vs. Right, Dem. vs. Repub.) is designed to keep us fighting amongst ourselves so our attention is focused away from the truth in D.C. These professional polititions are all rich and getting richer by the minute at our expense. They ALL are beholden to special-interest groups, big campaign donors and fat-cat CEO’s. We are so obsessed with hatred for “the other side” that when they try to cram a bill down our throats that will somehow benefit THEMSELVES (i.e. the most recent resurrection of immigration “reform”) we all stand in awe at the “bi-partisan” cooperation to do something “important for the country”. The members of congress have to start raising $$ the DAY after their election in order to get re-elected. Who do you think they are really working for up there, WE the People or is it whoever can get them the most cash for their re-election campaign??
There is a simple solution…. TERM LIMITS. We need to get these entrenched, self-serving PROFESSIONAL polititions out of office. The Founders intended for the congress to be made up of “citizen legislators” who would serve for a little while and then go back to their lives afterward to make room for new people with new ideas.
WE THE PEOPLE need to start demanding term limits in the same fashion that we killed the amnesty bill last month. Let’s stand up and take OUR COUNTRY back!!

What does King George have to say about this? Why can’t we bring our troops home, secure our own borders and deal with our own “insurrgents”. It would be nice to know that the congress and the president held as much esteem for American democracy as they do for Iraqi democracy.
DOWN WITH KING GEORGE!!!!!! lET’S TAKE BACK AMERICA, THIS IS A GOVERNMENT OF THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE AND FOR THE PEOPLE. Those that are in this country illegally are breaking the law,
they are not entitled to a defense, education, welfare and health care – they are entitled to be deported ASAP!
Does anyone do their job or do they just watch every thing go to hell in a handbasket and then report it? Why isn’t the FBI stopping them? Why isn’t the border ppatrol stopping them? Why are the American people putting up with this crap!

“Justin case” is exactly right: infiltration across the Mexican border has been going on for some years — mainly by Hizbullah affiliates and couriers. As the situation morphs and we continue to see closer association between Hamas and Hizbullah, it is very likely we’ll see operatives of “al-Qaeda in Iraq” (aQI) start to use the smuggling infrastructure Hizbullah has built up over the years. This is because Zarqawi dispatch about dozen or so from Iraq last year to open a front in Gaza. Although Hamas insist they’re not infiltrated by al-Qaeda, the facts on the ground say otherwise.
All that said, it’s virtually impossible to stop infiltration without establishing a police state that would pass Stazi standards. Frankly, it’s better to let them use the known route, rather than force them to devise another method. So long as we know where they’re coming in, they can be observed, tracked and accounted for. Close that avenue and then you have no idea where they’re going to come in — just that they’re coming in.

Revolt is what the government wants. We have security and other major issues that are being ignored on purpose. The majority of Americans are screaming for something to be done about illegals comming across the border, corruption in government, an unfinished war, and yet our government is literally and intentionaly turning a deaf ear. There is a reason for this and it is so clear Ray Charles could see it. Our government which is part of the so called New World Order must consolidate North America including Mexico. This is the North American Union and part 2 to the European Union and the 2nd step to a one world government. A one world government has been a goal for many year but those behind the scene know that it must be done in steps and that the American people will never agree to this. Marshall Law must be delcared by some means so the the constitution and bill of rights are suspended. The social engineers at work know what issues are hottest and what the flash point is that will provoke the desired response. Insurection or a revolt is the only excuse they need. At that point we Americans can be legally subdued by our government by whatever means they deem necessary. Whatever rights we are granted after that will come as a combination of european and american law. The country as we now know it will not exist.

If “Iraqis and other Middle Eastern” individuals are being brought across the Rio Grande illegally by Mexican or other nationals then we certainly have serious internal crisis at the “clear and present” phase. I just wonder, how many, and were and when their targets will start popping up. How long has the feds known about this crossing, and who is sponsoring them when they arrive? I have been informed of potential training bases in deep Central or South America for Middle Eastern terrorist and this scenario fits right in to that information, if it is true.

Posters on this site are laughably misguided. Here’s the thing–If Al Quaeda has operatives that are capable enough to escape detection for (even days) before committing terrorist acts, Al Quaeda won’t risk capture of such operatives by having them cross the U.S./Mexico border. Capture an Iraqi on the border? Do you idiots really think that these detainees wouldn’t be packed off immediately to Guantanamo? And here’s another shocker–They might not have accents. Or even BE Arabic. There are muslims on every inhabited continent. And they’re not all Arabic. Remember the blonde kid from Marin County who decided to become a Jihadist. Duh, guys.
Its much easier for Al Quaeda just to let terror recruitees (previously undetected) fly to the U.S. Al Quaeda ain’t gonna ship in someone who doesn’t speak at least passable English and who is previously known to have ties to terrorism. These boys (or girls) can move freely across our borders. “Border security” is not going to stop the flow of Al Quaeda personnel into the U.S. In fact, it will likely have no impact, one way or another. Unless you simply stop allowing any movement of planes, trains, ships, or cars into or out of the country. Wheat bound for Russia? Forget it. Like Asian-made electronics? Fuggedaboudit. Want to try a weekend in Cozumel or Bermuda? Not so fast, anti-American! Get real, guys. There is no way to gain security, other than by increasing our spend on intelligence and enhancing our ties to intelligence communities outside the U.S. The border thing is useless.

Take off your rose colored glasses. We are not the only country on this planet. 1. Does it make sense to shut that down immediately or watch learn follow it out and follow it back. That would explain why they did not want it shut if we are observing, monitoring, and learning. Is it possible that we want them to continue this way because we are successfully watching, if we shut it down we don’t necessarily know their next route in, but they will somehow.
2. Is this how we keep stumbling on to these plots.
3. If we keep talking about this does it help us or jeopardize our success remember how valuable codes and code breaking were in WWII.

as usual the general uninformed public schooled majority misses the point by a mile here. dont blame anyone for the immigration problem except you and your neighbors. youre the ones who hire these people or in some way allow them to be hired (as in ,by a contractor,to build your house…or by an expensive restaurant,to cook your food, or etc etc…)just pay your american neighbors and SUPPOSED friends a fair wage and youd never have to worry much about terrorist illegal aliens sneaking in among the uncounted masses of mexicans, but nooooooo, save a penny to spend a dime, penny wise, pound foolish etc…americans in general are money grubbing/no ethics rude and thoughtless, and those birds are coming home to roost soon for sure.
only when the carrot turns into a stick will this illegal immigration “issue” begin to get turned around, until then its just a laughably simplistic and easily solved problem.DONT HIRE ANYONE THAT HASNT LIVED IN YOUR COMMUNITY FOR LESS THAN 10 YEARS,OR THAT CANT SPEAK ENGLISH.THAT WILL SOLVE THE IMMIGRANT PROBLEM IMMEDIATELY!!

I think this country needs another majopr terrorist attack to wake the American people up.
It’s absolutely insane that the border is basically open and thousands of people are just walking in every month.
I am glad that I have no children to leave this pathetic countries future to.

This must be a slow news day at ABC. The “revelation” that anybody would be sneaking into this country from Mexico is obvious to the point of being ridiculous. What’s in store for the rest of the week — stories on sunshine and clouds?
The flow of illegal aliens (of all kinds) is more like a flood. Washington has thrown down the WELCOME mat and we are just so-o-o-o screwed.
Living about 7 miles from the border makes me an expert, unfortunately.

Bruce Delay a local talk show host on KFAQ 1170 Tulsa, OK and myself just returned from Narco, AZ. The Border Patrol there is trying to do the best they can with what little tools and support they have. Morale is very low and continues to decline. There is no fence on the border once you leave the observable areas. Four strands of barb wire can’t be considered a fence. They don’t need smugglers to help them across the bordern, they need the smugglers to show them where the border is. Border protection is a political farce as are the politicians who push it and say we have it.

Posted by: Claude | July 17, 2007, 11:05 pm 11:05 pm

Well Gee! Duhhhhh…….so when something happens again in this country it must be the big bad Iraqis!
Then we will have a reason to stay there, right?
WAKE UP IDIOTS! This is all BS! That is the reason for NOT building a wall, the open border is a convenient excuse to use for anything that happens here, GET IT!?
Next of course some “intelligence” agency will have found IRANIANS coming across.
Put the pieces together!

Posted by: Joe B | July 17, 2007, 11:05 pm 11:05 pm

The most disconcerting phrase in this news report is the following sentence: “An FBI intelligence report distributed by the Washington, D.C. Joint Terrorism Task Force, obtained by the Blotter on ABCNews.com.” How was this information obtained by ABCNews? Was it obtained through an official press release? Or, was it confidential information leaked to the press by some ignorant fool eager to impress someone in the media with their own self-importance? Or, worse yet, was it leaked for political reasons. Any way you look at it, an FBI investigation crucial to the security of our nation has likely been compromised by the actions of either an idiot or a traitor and the complicity of ABCNews in the dissemination of that information is equally despicable.

This is not surprising at all, with the way the borders are, no Thanks to the House of Representatives, the Senate, and the White House. We, in the Minutemen, have found make-shift mosques on the border complete with prayer rugs and Korans. Believe me folks, the enemy is already here. And Bush allowing 7000 Iraqi’s into the U.S. well, it’s all part of his globalism attitude. We have to fight him because he already has the process of merging U.S. Canada, and mexico in place. Signed, sealed and almost delivered. And yes, the Border Patrol already know about Iraqi’s coming over our borders disguised as mexicans, shaven faces and cut hair. A change of clothes is given to them by the coyotes so they blend in. How do we know this? The U.S. Border Patrol TOLD US. We’re not idiots, Mr. President. SHAME ON YOU FOR SELLING OUT AMERICA.

“Why are we resettling 7000 Iraqis by years end ? If they are not willing to stay and fight or work to make Iraq better place why should we ? ”
Those 7,000 either:
worked with the US military and were subsequently targeted by militia groups, or
are Assyrian Christians who have lost whatever business, jobs, freedom they had prior to the war, or
had to leave their homes in the middle of the night after getting their kids back from kidnappers (they had to pay the ransom by the way which, according to us law may prevent them from coming to america since they provided “material support” to some group on a watch list.)

Does the bush administration think that just because we have troops in Iraq that we want be attacked by terrorist here? I’ve heard no so called experts bring this up. Maybe they plan to fight in more than one place at the same time. The bush administration is set on looking for a straight punch no matter what “We need to stay in Iraq because that where the terrorists are” that’s what he said a few days ago. Forget about a round house, upper cut, 1-2, kick, hand full of sand to the eyes. Instead of the Texas National Guard fighting for people who are not worth a hand full of sand. Bring them home to guard the border with Mexico and do the same with other border state National Guards. Regulars to while we’re at it, give them a rest because there going to need it. They are getting burned out. And before you think it, no we should stay in Afghanistan.

I am so calling BS on this story. As stated above, our current administration loves to release stories such as this to the press to further qualify their agenda. People must realize that most of this intelligence doesnt come directly from the CIA or the FBI, but its conjured up from think tanks who’s sole responsibility is to feed the administration with so-called real events and strategies to strengthen thier choking grip on freedom as we know it today. Most of all, these think tanks are not at the mercy of the voting public and cannot be held accountable for thier actions as they are not a part of the govt.

I have never in my life seen a time where so many polititians had their heads in the sand…and that goes for both parties. Why don’t they get it?!! It’s enough to make your head explode. It has already been reported that Border Patrol estimates are that 10% of the people coming across the Mexican border are “OTM” or “Other Than Mexican” and many of those are middle Easterners. First thing we know, there will be enough of these militant Muslim terrorist types here in the USA to form an actual army or militia to start making attacks. Think about it. Can you imagine what just 100 armed Muslim militiamen in one group could do in, let’s say, Dallas, TX using only legal firearms? What will we do then, arrest all of them for having illegal weapons and put them in jails for criminal trials? I’m sure that’s what the ACLU and other such fringe lunatic organizations will want to do. Our police agencies aren’t ready for attacks like that. It’s so frustrating to sit back and watch the terrorists take complete advantage of our lame brained polititians, the soft spots in our laws, the liberal’s with their heads in the sand, and the political correctness movement, in order to achieve their goals. We are in a pathetic mess.

ABC is only good for leaking classified information, while the local newspaper in San Antonio, TX ran a 3-part story how this is easily accomplished and being done! As for our borders AND the total lack of security, there is nothing new here. Why wouldn’t Iraqis, or anyone else, exploit
our unprotected borders?
Illegal aliens, drug smugglers, and mexican gangsters (criminals one and all) are treated better than our Border Patrol by Federal Prosecutors. And local non-government organizations, as well as some local governments aide and abet their criminal activities with impunity.
Does anyone seriously believe or think that terrorists are LESS organized than the hordes of Mexicans who cross our borders daily?

The news Brian Ross is reporting on has been old news for some time. Our border security is a joke.
Everyone with a ounce of common sense knows that border security should be a very high priority. What we have in Washington is a bunch of ignorant small-time political hacks playing politics with our safety. We, the American people right and left and middle, should come together and DEMAND that our immigration policies and our border security problems be addressed in a clear and understandable fashion. The politicians are playing games with our future. The small-minded politicians and their pinheaded supporters do not need to play the blame game, the I hate Bush the most game, I want to get reelected game, etc. THEY JUST NEED TO SOLVE THE D**** PROBLEM. If this is true, then Bush needs to be impeached immediately before he can do any more harm. He’s been pushing for amnesty for the illegals, and has done nothing to stop the influx. He’s received thousands upon thousands of letters, faxes and emails requesting stricter border security, and refused to do anything about it unless he got his ‘comprehensive immigration bill’ passed. When this failed, he sat back & picked his nose.

Chaparral NM isn’t even on the border, or the Rio Grande. In fact it’s on the other side of some small mountains from 3 towns/cities which are on the border/rio. It may be true, but it sounds a little strange — why would human traffickers work from such an inconvenient location?

It’s nice to see how people are scared. Some previous posts say diversity is not good, and you all sound scared. A terrorist doesn’t have to be foreign, or they could come in legally.
Conservatives always playing the blame game, yet you had control of Congress for years. Hows about instead of bringing hostilities up with more nations, we work with those nations to control immigration in their countries. It’s not like an Iraqi swam across the Atlantic. Close the border now. Stop screwing around. Close the damn border you morons in Washington on both sides of the aisle. You do not have this country’s best interest at heart. You are listening to the illegal population, and not to the majority of your OWN citizens. The vast majority of Americans, including legal Mexicans and hispanic citizens, want the border closed and then controlled using proper quotas. IF 5,000 field hands are required in the Texas valley to pick veggies, then let 5,000 in with proper documentation and then send them home when done. PERIOD. It is easy. Just do it.

Then look at the other side, is there a one in the whole lot that gets it either?
We’re heading for a disaster that will make 9/11 look like a small event. If this is really true, and I think it is, this administration along with the Congress is going to bring this nation to its knees … and it may take that for the politicians on both sides to finally screw their stupid heads on.

I’ve been reading these comments and across the board it seems Americans are now speaking with one voice: Damn the left and close the borders now! It has gone beyond words. Does no one in Washington understand the nature of our enemy? While we piddle around in Iraq our forces are stretched to the limit, we’re a country without a garrison, even our National Guard is over there. Our border security is a joke and meanwhile al qaeda is back at nearly full strength. How did the greatest power on earth ever get in this position? I think it all began with Tora Bora. It makes me sick that we had bin Laden cornered but Bush never sent that extra brigade our commanders requested to get the job done. Instead, he farmed it out to the “locals”. Ever wonder why he suddenly abandoned the attack on bin Laden? Only one reason makes sense: Because with bin Laden captured or dead, it’s game over. Justice served. And then Congress never approves the invasion of Iraq.

Posted by: Vinnie | July 18, 2007, 1:34 am 1:34 am

Why would “terrorist” go through all the trouble, cost and pain of crossing the Mexican border when they can cross the Canadian border in a car or by a safe ferry boat. This is how the Millenium bomber crossed into the United States with a full car load of explosives. We are trying to guard the wrong border.

These borders should have never been allowed to be so easy to cross. But since people with money and businessmen love cheap nearly free labor it has been allowed. This is probably the big business people like Bush/Cheney. Increasing our risk of terrorism for the sake of free labor was a poor move. I would assume that any terrorists meaning to do us harm have entered before 9/11.
Why do people say the Liberals hate America? Just because people have different opinions does not make them unpatriotic and fighting between ourselves plays into the terrorist plans. What happened to the America that used to step up and solve problems? Nowdays we point fingers and argue while things deteriorate.

Otherwise, the last case will be worse than the first.

It’s all Clinton and the liberals’ fault that we’re overrun with illegals?? Are you people for real? Only a bunch of ignorant, brainwashed morons would come out with such crap!
Both sides are to blame for the current mess we’re in. Both sides cow-tow to big business. And the reason why we have so much crap made in China and droves of illegals working in this country is because this is a nation of spending freaks and shopping and excessive consumption of cheap goods and food are like a religion. This nation consists mostly of (fat) self-centered, clueless idiots.

Posted by: Jodi | July 18, 2007, 3:06 am 3:06 am

The solution has sprung into my mind!
Send state employees to meet illegal immigrants once they’ve crossed the border. Give each immigrant:
1. $500 cash,
2. a bath and new set of clothes,
3. a warm meal,
4. a bus ride to NYC, Chicago, Boston or SF.
After doing this for 6 months the border states will have no further problems with illegal immigrants (since they won’t stay there). The cost: around $1000 per immigrant: something that the border states can now easily handle, since their social services, welfare, hospital and criminal systems will be unburdened by shipping the illegals to Northern cities.
About the same time the “blue” states should start screaming for someone, anyone, to build a border fence.

Posted by: tndal | July 18, 2007, 3:08 am 3:08 am

Geez, must be a hundred posts, and one woman actually understood the report. Talk of this presumably elaborate scheme, apparently already investigated, comes from Washington. The FBI hq and the Joint Task Force seem to have all the suggestive, threatening details, but neither the Border Patrol, the Albuquerque FBI office, or the federal prosecutors have any knowledge of any such case. The local career people are getting the mushroom treatment from the PNACers, along with the rest of us.
Come August the congress will be out of town. Good time for a false-flag terror attack, and retaliation against Iran. Some world.

I believe that trying to seal our borders is the wrong way to stop illegals. It’s kind of like swatting flies at an open picnic table. You can’t stop them from getting to the table — so you have to COVER THE FOOD! In other words, once they get here, our nation must keep illegal aliens from having access to basic necessities of life: like food, gas, and shelter.
That’s why we need to immediately implement a national identity card system. We must REQUIRE everyone to have such a card before they can get food, gas, and services like health care.

whats needed here is some heavy handed law enforcement generously applied to any and all who hire or in any way help to support illegal immigration. the problem is with the businesses and rich fatcats, the last thing any of them want is to lose their never ending supply of semi slave labor.
so democrats force the republicans to raise the minimum wage?it happened in the 70s and 80s and 90s folks remember? no problem for the fatcats they just basically made up new laws so they can have lots of cheap workers who by their very nature(being illegal) are not covered by any labor or wage laws at all!

Good thing they got across when they did. Now they can qualify for the amnesty once it gets passed.
I’m sure if these guys, all fleeing the viloence in Iraq of course, can get here this way, the bad guys can figure it out too. Hmmm… Nah… That’s not gonna happen. I’ll just keep thinking my politically correct and culturally sensitive happy thoughts and everything will be fine.

Let us not forget: the more and more we fight with our fists and close minds like little 8 year olds that pushed each other, the more and more we will continue to do and to be so.
There is no such thing as a War on Terror. If we want to prevent “the next attack” (hmm look at the “terror” in our eyes that the Bush administration has worked so hard to to get rid of, HAH!) then we should perhaps look to ourselves and maybe… hmmm… freaking apologize for the horrible wrongs we have committed on the people and families and societies we have harmed, and work to help them become stronger independent societies (with our hands maybe this time, not our freaking pocketbooks…). In that case they themselves are happier and do not require extremism to feel they belong, and there’s at least one reason for people to say no, I will not harm the US.

Posted by: Anthony | July 18, 2007, 6:09 am 6:09 am

We will end our nation with trying to be so politcally correct -it will be our total undoing. We have left our doors open for every nut-job on the planet – to waltz in and destroy us. I am pretty certain that every extremist in the world has figured by now, if they can survive in the mountains of Pakistan, they can certainly survive the deserts of Mexico, walk right on in, and set up shop. Why not just send the welcome wagon and make it eaiser. If they don’t blow us up, they will posion us to death with contamined food products labled “made in China”.

Put your head in the head of an Iraqi. Your country gets invaded and its president put to death in public. The americans came to spread democracy.. although its been a little dangerous on the streets and not so enjoyable these days. you think, why not go to the closest to real democracy the USA. That might be why they are coming. Call me an optimist, but they could be coming to flee a mess and live in the bliss that we live in here.

They’re waiting to hit us really big time, ’cause our enemy knows that when they do, that all hell will break loose, and the American people will no longer accept the bull that is presently being passed around as answers to our security problems.
Bush has kept them off our backs for six years now. In my book, that’s pretty good. But it’s going to take another big hit to wake up the people who are still sleeping.

I agree that the Dems are not impressive at all. However the GOP are just as bad. What we need is a new party. Time for talent as a minimum criteria in leadership, not stances on an issue in order to satisfy special interests or pet peeve of a certain demographic. Why wasn’t the border reinforced? Because the only thing ALL our politicians know how to do is run for office. They get congratulated on judging public opinion, on sound bites, on sucking up to sections of the electorate, on phony speeches, on hypocritical moral stances.

Hey, Had Enough,
There are lot’s of us who would LOVE a chance to guard our borders, “unrestricted,” of course. Mexican and other illegal entry into the U.S. would stop. I guarantee it. But the Mexican government would be squealing. You should pray to God that the handcuffs don’t come off and we DO get a chance to guard the border ourselves. You wouldn’t like it.

The other side of the story is that the “other liberals” who admit they are liberals, don’t just have their heads in the sand; they’re really working hard for what they believe in; and the only way to stop this whole mess is to impeach them, too. Otherwise, the last case will be worse than the first.

Many of you obliviots need to open your narrow shortsighted minds to the fact that the vast majority of illegals were here before Bush Jr ever dreamed of being a president. But yet your wisdom blames Bush.
The illegal alien influx ‘machine’ has been running for at least 50 years. For you to think one man could stop that powerful machine after all the years it’s been running is ludicrous! As a matter of fact – it has never been more difficult to squash the influx now that there are millions of passivist ‘peaceful’ activists who write laws supporting illegal aliens after they’re here.
Where the hell have you been? If you have a need to point fingers – point them at your parents who were also too shortsighted and looked the other way while thousands were coming across the borders 30-40 years ago. And BTW – had 9-11 not happened… they’d still be coming over and we’d all still be ‘looking the other way….’

The people who say this hogwash about liberals hating America CAN’T STAND the REAL America. They want everyone to think like them and put their conservative political opinions ahead of the unity and good of our country. They hate EVERYBODY who has a different opinion than they do. They lack the intellectual capacity to comprehend that our diversity is what makes us strong.

Randy says:”Having read these comments what comes to mind is the question of what’s more scary? The outside threat of terrorism, or the inside threat of totalitarianism?….”
Your post is absurd, Randy. Those of us who been alive for 60 years or so can remember when there was NO illegal alien problem. And guess what? No totalitarianism either. We have millions of illegals because US business owns both political parties outright and US business DEMANDS an oversupply of labor so as to keep wages and benefits down. Do you think it’s a coincidence that wage increases, medical insurance, pensions, etc. all started disappearing at the same time that the country started filling up with illegals? Whats that? You don’t want to work for what we want to pay? OK, we’ll replace you with an illegal alien for less money. Ask the guys who used to make $20 an hour in meatpacking plants and were replaced with $9 illegal aliens. Or ask the guys who USED to work construction at really good pay but were replaced by illegals at just over minimum wage. The fear of “totalitarianism” is a red herring spread by corporate media to keep us from doing what was done for the first 200 years of this country’s existence: Secure the borders.

Bush is going to the MexAmeraCanada summit in Canada next month. We are going to become one happy North American continent without the American, Candian or Mexican peoples approval. Bush threatens our sovereignty as a nation, won’t protect our borders, along with the Senate and Congress has sold us out to international corporations (which have no alliegence to the US even though they may be based here)it sounds like TREASON to me. The entire government needs to be replaced. This is from a former staunch Republican, former Marine, and right wing conservative. We need to take back our government before we lose our country completely.

Posted by: Mike | July 18, 2007, 9:40 am 9:40 am

I honestly don’t know what to believe anymore, especially when it comes to information released by the government at this time. Government has shown that it is willing to use deception and fear and terror to consolidate power and to social engineer the civilians into manufacturing consent to whatever freedom-draining, money-wasting projects they feel will assist them in it’s objective of perpetual power. It is up to the individual to be alert to this and other battles. And if the report is true, it is still the responsibility of everyone to be alert for injustice, be it in the form of keeping a friend from driving drunk, getting involved in a crime in process (like theft/rape/etc) to a suspicious person who may be about to do something bad. It is not “someone else’s job” to provide mutual security. That is all of our responsibility.

Why not we can not stop these illegals at all because President Bush has made sure of that by arresting those two (2) men trying to protect us from the illegal Mexicans.
President Bush will be known as the president that destroyed the United States as he did in Texas.

I was in southern New Mexico in October 2001 when J.Zane Walley went to check out complaints by local ranchers living on the border. (border patrol & sheriff were no help) Interesting that after 9/11 there were only a few media outlets that would even consider his story. He had photos, video and eyewitness accounts.
He reported the story for World Net Daily in October 2001. Fox News’ William LaJeunesse did a piece on it also. (the left leaning media -I mean all others- blew him off)

All the partisan finger pointing does nothing to solve the problem of border security, or the lack of.
Both parties have been criminaly negligent in enforcing our borders, while hoping to to strengthen their own agendas by permitting this illegal invasion. Nothing we do to secure airports or ports of entry means anything to U.S. security while we have an uninterupted stampede across our borders.
If the terrorists are not already here in great numbers and working to procure weapons and finalize their plans, they must be stupid, incompetent or simply unmotivated and I doubt they are any of the above. Sometimes I wonder we have the will to survive as a nation.

Maybe at some point the American people as a whole will say enough is ENOUGH! We as a nation are ruled by the wealthy and the power elite. This nation was founded by the PEOPLE. It was a nation by the people and for the people. Not any more. Do you feel represented? I sure as hell don’t. We say enough with the illegal immagrants, they want to give them amnesty. We say close the border and keep the illegals and terrorists out. They fight to keep them here. Do we still live in a democracy? Or is our country ruled by special interest. I.E Oil. You think that Bush cares about Saddam gassing some Kurds? We sold him the gas. It’s about O I L.

Interesting that the info comes from the FBI and yet the FBI admits later in the article that it has no viable info that leads to a case. Why does the “lamestream” media bother to forward such gov. propaganda? Surely there must be someone in the media who is smart enough to see through such tactics otherwise the only conclusion is that the specific media reporting it is complicit.

This is a joke. Wake up people. If they know that people are being smuggled across the border then why have they not captured them yet? Why is the border still open after 6 years? Why are they trying pass bills to let all the illegals in? why no troops on the border?

Posted by: tony | July 18, 2007, 10:56 am 10:56 am

I grew up on the deep South Texas border. Bush is just one in a line of presidents who looked the other way at what has crossed the border. It is a bi-partisan neglect.
The OTM (Other Than Mexicans) have been coming across for years, many years, and the word last time I visited home was that the reason that the drug cartel kidnappings were not happening from Matamoros to Reynosa was that the drug lords were afraid of AQ. Remember the AQ operative nabbed at the McAllen airport a while back? If you think she is the only one over there or that her capture is the only incident to occur down there (I was suprised it even made the national news, other stuff doesn’t) or that her compadres are not busy as little bees across our southern border then you would be mistaken.
For the person asking why Mexico? It might be easier to walk across from Canada but it is far easier to set up a base of operations in Mexico where things are more “flexible”.

This story has already been covered exhaustively in a 5-part San Antonio Express News series called Breaching America, which followed Iraqis from Syria to Texas. You’re way behind the curve ball.

Posted by: Nem | July 18, 2007, 11:31 am 11:31 am

Please. This story reeks of planted info. The border patrol is unaware of the specifics (i.e., the report or the situation)? There is no viable information that could lead to a case? Federal prosecutors are unaware of any impending cases of smuggled Iraqis? But the FBI says it so it must be true. Then where are the smuggled people? There is no proof consisting of smugglers OR Iraqis because there aren’t any Iraqis being smuggled. It’s just more “booga, booga!” from the admin. Don’t believe everything you read in the media, those of you so easily scared.

Let me get this straight. Bush and his fellow Republicrats are sending our troops all over the world, bleeding and dying, to “fight terrorism” and yet they refuse to protect our own borders from terrorists? They said that they were going to build 800 miles of border fence to protect us, yet here we are several years later with only 10-12 miles actually built. They said they were going to put the National Guard on the border to help the Border Patrol protect us, yet the few NG troop there are unarmed. They say that Mexico is our “friend” yet their military assists drug smugglers, invades our country, and shoots at our Border Patrolmen and nothing is done. Could it be because Bush has already signed the “Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America” which destroys America’s borders and sovereinty…just as his One-World handlers have ordered him to?? Please wake up America, kick out the Republicrats and Dempublicans in Congress, and vote for Ron Paul…

Howizzit that you red-state nuts blame everything on Ted Kennedy when all Goerge Bush had to do was wave his hand and 100,000 national guardsmen would have been shooting anything that moved across the border? It’s HIS FAULT!

Posted by: jwalker | July 18, 2007, 12:26 pm 12:26 pm

They’ve been crossing the border for some time. In 2005, over 3700 people with ties to terrorist countries/orgs were apprehended by US Border Patrol Agents.
We need more border patrol agents. In addition, the border patrol should review and modify current hiring policies.

I fought in Iraq al-anbar province in 2004 with 1st MarDiv. K company. I had many friends that were Mexican and we used to joke around about how similar they looked to the Middle Easterners. Actually alot of the Iraqis thought they were also Iraqis.. I thought about how they could easily blend in with Mexicans coming across the border almost 3 years ago. I guess the geniuses in our government just figured this out, figures.

Strange, we can keep American citizens out of Area 51 with ease, but we can’t secure the border. And why is it that one of the first acts after 9/11 was to PAY all the families of those killed in the attacks, when has that EVER happened before??? Also, Clean up Ground Zero FAST…..
“We the people” no longer has anything to do with You and I.
The people responsible for the next attack are already here and already know what and when they are going to do what they will be ALLOWED to do. Keep your eyes open and be prepared. If and When could very well be as soon as tomorrow….

There are laws made and not enforced. So much secrecy and hidden agendas. Who do you trust? I don’t know whether this article is true or not, I do believe that nothing has been done to enforce our borders (though we were told it would be) and our government is leaving us wide open for future attacks. I guess it is up to each individual to protect their own families. Just my thoughts!

also of note here is the ” cry wolf” effect. this administration has stoked the publics’ unrelenting primal fear of the unknown at least one too many times it appears and now, from reading some of the above posts, its clear that the unintended effect of these booga booga reports is to instill feelings of apathy and mistrust and consequently anger and frustration as well,to at least a certain (evidently growing) segment of the populace.
whether the latest fbi reports are true or not isnt the point here really, anyone with light bulb iq should be able to figure out that this nation had better get a handle on immigration, illegal and legal, immediately. the real and important point is , we need CREDIBLE politicians.

The people in office today do not have the wisdom or leadership abilities of their counterparts of 1787. Let’s all begin now to educate ourselves about the candidates before the next elections. We must not elect people who are not willing and do not have the backbone to protect our country. If people want to come to America, they MUST do it legally. If they have come illegally, they MUST leave. Build the fence…ASAP.

Why is this not on the top of the page and headline news? Why is it buried? Some of those Iraqis are coming here to escape. But how many are coming here to get revenge? How many are not Iraqi? Because we are too afraid of Mexico turning off the oil spigot and because politicians are too afraid of businesses who use illegals as the New Slave, we have open, poorly controlled borders. And everyone knows that until a lot of people die, our government will not move on this issue with any sort of reasonable speed.

Why is everyone so worried about the border? If everything goes down as planned, we won’t need a border. The talks start in August between the U.S.A., Canada, and Mexico…This is to form the North American Union. This whole deal is to be finished by January. So why aren’t we focusing on this issue as its far more important to the people of this great country. You all need to read about this and find out what you can do. This issue does not need the American vote, we have got to stop it.

1: rich people dont like to clean their own toilets or mop their own floors or mow their own yards ,etc, etc, ad infinitum… 2: most rich people are “frugal” (read cheap skates ) 3: actual slavery is illegal 4: immigrants,in particular illegal ones, will do about anything to survive, even the most demanding dangerous demeaning jobs, for less pay and no benefits. 5. most americans have been brought up and taught to be proud free people who expect a fair wage to be paid for work done, especially for a hard, difficult demanding or just nasty/dirty job ,and as most of these aforementioned americans are not in such poor economic positions as illegal immigrants,(ie; penniless and homeless), they definitely wont clean anyone elses toilet unless they feel they are being paid a fair wage.
this is the nexus of the problem.my solution? do not allow any housekeeping or similar SLAVE LABOR TYPE jobs at all, except in instances where health or medical or similar circumstances make necessary such “jobs” . typical americans arent that lazy(just a select segment of pampered rich folks is all really) and the legal american worker will do any and every job there is ….IF THEY ARE PAID A FAIR WAGE TO DO IT!!!

I have been trying to find out everything I can on the North American Union & SPP. Seems like alot of work on this has taken place without the general public being informed! Also believe it ties in with Bush not enforcing our borders due to this deal he made with Pres. Fox in 2005. I have ordered Jerome Corsi’s book “The Late Great USA”, I haven’t got it yet. I hope it will give me more information as to how all of this was done pretty much behind our backs!

….lest i be misconstrued per my earlier posts about immigrants/immigration. i welcome all who come to live and be part of this still great nation of immigrants ,all those who come with our pledge of allegiance in their hearts, willing to become part of this nations’ treasured long history of cultural religious and ethnic diversity.i welcome all who love our flag and our language and want to be part of it. i welcome all who come here to support this nation and live within its laws, and it bothers me not at all that a new legal immigrant/citizen can make an equal or better living than some other citizen that has lived here for a longer time.
however personally, what really irks me about immigrants of any type(and i believe irks many many others as well) is when immigrants, especially illegal ones, come to this country and try to take it over, plant their country of origins’ flag on our soil ,showing disrespect for our flag and language, angrily protesting in the streets for rights they dont deserve, sending all the money they make back home without paying taxes, breaking innumerable laws of every type ,in general making an uneven playing field for the hard working LEGAL american citizen looking to support his/her family.

Posted by: Turbo BB | July 18, 2007, 6:49 pm 6:49 pm

particularly irksome to me moreover is the fact that rich pampered individuals (and their business entities) will make undesirable and/or low paying jobs readily available to anyone who applies for said jobs( in particular, illegal immigrant/work visa workers/trained chimps etc…),with no regard whatsoever as to national or local security and no matter what the laborers’ personal political and social agenda ,as long as they are the lowest common denominator, wage wise. the prototypical rich buisinessman or rich private citizen in the usa would hire mid eastern terrorists as quickly as they would a mexican or any other kind of immigrant, all the rich care about is (1) whether or not their toilet gets cleaned and their yard gets mowed and their (take your pick) oranges/tomatoes/apples etc gets picked…and (2) how much $$ do they have to pay for it?? they could care less about national security concerns or for that matter, any other concerns.
its nice i guess to live in your own (very affordable, thanks to cheap illegal labor) private idaho… penny wise, pound foolish. we need to only allow usa nationalistically minded immigrants into this country, anyone else is just here for a job/money/handout and could care less about this country, and could likely be more easily paid off or hired/used by most any enemy of the usa as well. WAKE UP AMERICA !! VOTE TO MAKE LAWS TO ALLOW ONLY PEOPLE WHO LOVE AND TREASURE THE USA AND OUR WAYS TO BE CITIZENS ,AND DONT ALLOW ANYONE ELSE ENTRY INTO THIS COUNTRY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES…THATS THE WAY TO HAVE A GREAT COUNTRY,NOT TO ALLOW CHEAP ALIEN LABOR FORCES TO UNDERMINE OUR LONG TIME AMERICAN VALUES!!!

Wow! After reading most of the posts here, some of you are in denial. Iraqis and middle easterners are coming in through both borders; more through the southern one because it’s easier. They know that agents get prosecuted if they try to stop them. Now with the fake passports, anybody will be able to get here via almost any mode of transportation. I didn’t hear about this on ABC. They’re trying to keep it quiet just like the scheming that the US, Mexico and Canada have been doing in secret. By the way, I have a message for Chertoff: I had a gut feeling back in 2000, but mine was authentic. I told everyone I knew that G W Bush shouldn’t be elected. Nobody would listen.
As for this: “Fred Thompson has also spoken strongly about closing the border”. I heard that too, but you need to dig a little deeper. He’s a globalist too, so we’ll be in for the NAU with him. Same with Rudy and maybe Romney. I don’t trust the “big three” from either party who have been selected by the media. Somebody tell them there are more than 3 Dems and 3 Repubs in the running. I’d like to hear from all of them.

Julie, like so many others, claims this is a Christian nation, but truth is the USA is secular and fueled by greed and bloodlust. 99% of the professing Christians in this nation are apostate. How many of them would open their homes to a starving, beaten Christian brother or sister? This nation has gone too long without a moral compass. We must all repent and turn to Christ that we may be forgiven our sins. Judgement is not far off. Our rejection of God will be punished.

It is vesy sad that most people haven’t realized that the so called FBI report is just another LIE to hype up fear among Americans. If no body has been arrested doing that how could FBI know that the Iraqi smugling ring exist? And if the FBI has seen those people, why didn’t they arrest them? The main clue to knowing that the whole story is a LIE is this: “Border Patrol officials in the area said they were unaware of the specifics of the FBI’s report, and federal prosecutors in New Mexico told ABCNews.com they had no current cases involving the illegal smuggling of Iraqis.” and “A spokesman in Albuquerque said the FBI had “no viable information” that could lead to a case”. Now you see, FBI has just made up the story without any proof!!! Guys!! Wake up from your slumber!!

Posted by: Samuel Muloz | July 19, 2007, 7:28 am 7:28 am

I live in New Mexico and we have been hearing stories for a while now that ranchers along the border have been finding stuff the middle easterners have thrown away as they have crossed the border into this country. Stuff with middle eastern writing on it. This has been going on for a while and NPR has reported on how the ones that are caught, once they are let out awaiting a court date, somehow never show up for court to be extradited.
The border situation is a joke. We have possibly/probably AQ coming into this country and Bush and his “Homeland Security” morons aren’t doing a thing. If we have another 9/11, responsibility is with George W. Bush and Michael Chertoff and the USA should hold them accountable.

Posted by: It's True | July 19, 2007, 7:49 am 7:49 am

It’s True: “Stuff with middle eastern writing on it.”
Is this the same type of “evidence” found a ground zero on that horrific day?
Logically speaking, why is it that our citizens are subject to security checks, and our borders are wide open?
Do you recall how all of The U.S. was shut down within 20 minutes or so on 9/11? Do you recall that eerie silence?
If they wanted borders controlled they would be. So would our ports. Even if all of the agencies are that screwed up (I don’t believe that), when do we say ENOUGH??

I am continually astonished at how easily people get on a blog, like this one, and criticize and condemn the current political administration for all the ills of our country. Granted, the current administration has neglected to accomplish much that truely is in the best interests of the
American public. But there is something that a great number of people in America have obviously forgotten, as we are unable to identify where blame should truely be placed. Long ago, a group of Americans (true patriots, I might add) created a document that began with three very important words – “We, the people”. “We, the people” are responsible for the people who are in the current administration. “We, the people”, by our apothy and our general disinterest in the workings of our government have empowered our elected representatives, from the local to the federal level, to do as they please. Few of us even know who our elected representatives are, let alone have we written to them and voiced our opinion on any subject. “We the people” have allowed ourselves to be distracted by the “Brittany Spears” and “Dixie Chics” of the world, while our elected officials operate in a public opinion void since we don’t communicate with them and let them know when we are displeased with their actions, thier immoral conduct, and thier voting record that shows plainly that they do not have the best interests of the American people at heart when they make decisions that adversely affect our lives. For anyone to single out the current administration because our borders are not secure showes me that that person knows nothing of American history and that they obsolve all previous administrations of any involvement in our countries security. When will “We, the people” remember who we are and what our responsibilities are to our country and our political representative? When will “We, the people” stop blaming others for our inaction? Either support those that YOU elected or take action to remove them from office as the constitution of these United States allows. Either vote them out of office or work to have them impeached. Get out from in front of the computer or tv or whatever is distracting you. Get informed. Stay informed. Just stop whinning, please. You have the power to change whatever is wrong in your world. So just do it!!

When people start realizing that they are being divided perhaps you will be able to save your country. This US AND THEM bullcrap is so sad and pathetic. This IS NOT about Republicans vs Democrats, Left vs Right. My personal opinion from digging for the truth is that this is exactly what was meant to happen. Divide the people to such an extent that all they do is fight each other instead of fighting for what really matters. In the end, they win and you the people lose. Why a story that all but confesses to being a fraud? And reason it out people, Iraq doesn’t border Mexico. And it cost an awful lot money to fly from the Middle East. Finally, Mexico is harder on Middle Easterners coming to their country than the US is. So, what gives with this story? Who is responsible for this fraud that so many of you are swallowing hook, line and sinker.

fred posts above that “we the people” should take the fight to the politicians, and let them know how we feel by protest and vote. hasnt nancy sheehan and her posse been doing just that for what,4 or 5 years now. and where has that gotten her/them? no where…but it DID make her a convicted felon… wake up fred, this is no longer the democracy that was envisioned by the founding father.instead,we have a federalist republic, where only one things speaks to any issue;namely $$$,and lots of it .
if nancy sheehan had bill gates kind of money she could get something accomplished, however shes just a more or less regular citizen with no “key players” as friends or ,more aptly,”accomplices”…ergo not much of her agenda even gets off the ground.

I THINK WE NEED TO TAKE OVER OUR OWN COUNTRY SEEING AS THE PEOPLE WHO ARE SUPPOSED TO BE IN CHARGE AND KEEP US SAFE ARE NOT DOING THEIR JOB. GUESS WE NEED TO TAKE OUR OWN COUNTRY OVERThe government know where these terroists are at but refuse to bring them in because they will lose money. SO WHAT IS THE BEST FOR US THE MONEY OR OUR LIVES????

Er, I’ve been away. I recall that the proponednts of open borders were adamant that their purpose was to stop illegal immigration, and that to do that, they had authorized a shorter fence. (Defficult to rationalize.)
But Mr. Bush, where is the frenzied fence building activity that we all anticipated? Yes. We didn’t believe you then, and you hav e demonstrated our wisdom.
Ten percent of the Mexicans from Mexico, now reside in the U.S. And they have “exported” their illiterates and others who have less aptitude. Aren’t we fortunate to have these people available.

Iraqis are NOT terrorists! The 911 hijackers (supposedly) were all Saudis.
Get you facts straight!

I don’t mind immigrants, but we already take in more legal immigrants than all other nations combined. The huge numbers of illegals are just way too much for the country to handle all at once. One theory on the North American Union is that this will make the merger more paltable and smooth in the end. After all, right now the American middle class is being made to subsidize the poor Mexicans, bec. there is no Mexican middle class to do it. We’ll all be evened out in the end, for better or worse. I have never been a conspiracy theorist, but I am baffled as to how our President and the lawmakers have been so deaf, dumb, and blind to what the US citizens want. If they got away from us on so many other things, surely we need to stop them on movement towards a NA Union.

bah, did you understand anything I said? If you think you cannot make a difference, then you won’t. Miz Sheehan allowed herself to be used by those in the democratic party for thier purposes. And when they had gotten all the mileage they could our of her – well you know the rest. Yes, protest, communication, and action are what’s needed, not by a few, but by all of us that have the means to do something. If we accept defeat, then we are defeated.

It is perhaps no longer relevant whether America proclaims itself as land of the Free and bastion of democracy. What is relevant is the fact that not only does its government not want to accept Iraqi refugees (who were non-refugees prior to to American military action) but that American citizens themselves are not dispalying the mercy or compassion the world has been accustomed to expect of them.
Perhaps the US government is not taking in the refugees so as not to embarass the Iraqi Prime Minister who repeatedly confirms that Iraq is in good shape; the implication being only Iraqis who are rogues or greedy economic migrants would leave (‘the country of honey and oil.)
It is noteworthy that Sweden which is not ‘touched’ by the Iraq war has said it will admit 10,000 Iraqi refugees (making a total of 80,000 in the country). By the way Sweden is not pushing through the Iraqi parliament for an oil law that would effectively place Iraq’s oil wealth in Sweden’s hands for the long term .

This one is hard to believe…but if it is true, why not offer rewards on the Mex. side of the border?

Posted by: cuah01 | July 20, 2007, 12:12 pm 12:12 pm

Just as we rely on our “partner” Pakistan to help us get Bin Laden,we rely on our “partner” Mexico to help stop the rush on our border. Seems we should have learned by now that if we want anything done we should do it ourselves.

Tudo,
I think you missed a couple of key words re-read the story and look where it states:
Alleged
Under investigation
To me that means they stumbled on it or it was report to the FBI as happening, and they are investigating to build a case if one does in fact exist.

Justin Case: you’ll have to go after Ted Kennedy and his ilk also to prosecute if there is another terrorist attack. His group wants the borders wide open for anyone to come so he can get his lawn moved really cheap….. Check out who sponsored the last so-called immigration reform bill that was defeated by the Republicans (Kennedy, McCain, Bush….). It’s a group effort

All of this Republicans bashing Democrats and Democrats bashing Republicans has got to stop! Don’t you people know that this is what our government wants? They want us to point fingers at each other, because then the focus isn’t on what any particular politician is doing. Forget about politics!… How about we actually use our brains instead of letting other people do it for us! If we aren’t happy with what is going on in our government PLEASE pledge with me to do one of 2 things… next election, either vote for a 3rd party or write in a name. At least if another moron is elected to office, you can say after the election is over, “I didn’t vote for the idiot”. Oh… I almost forgot…BUILD THE FENCE!

Posted by: Lori | July 20, 2007, 5:23 pm 5:23 pm

I would trade straight up all our Congress and the Administration for a like number of terrorists. I believe we could do something about the terrorists but we can do nothing about Congress and the Administration.
Build the fence and enforce our laws!

Pro-amnesty, no borders, laxed border enforcement, a transcontinental highway linking South America, Mexico and Canada, hodgepodge hiring practices, birth citizenship, higher wages, free medical care, social security benefits, tax free income, low income benefits, laxed housing restrictions… What a future! Where can I go to get all of this?
Let’s connect the dots, Folks… Welcome to the new ”United Nations of North America” — member of the ”New World Order”. — and yes, I voted Republican, but what’s in a label?

If another 911 happens here then the citizens of the United States need to file treason charges against the president and any congressman that voted for the illegal immigration bill. Yes, the bill was defeated but who knows what those idiots are planning behind closed doors now.

Lots of good comments here, and the consensus seems to be that of the hundreds of posters (not a scientific sample, but a good number), the consensus is to urge our Government to do more for its Citizens and less for those who sneak in. Any policy-makers or legislative staffers listening??
I especially agree with the list posted by Stan on the 21st, of things that have gone very wrong in the past decade or so. Good relations and trade with our neighbors is important, but Canada and Mexico still have protective laws and national preferences, so why shouldn’t the United States? Our “liberal guilt” is giving the store away.
And regarding Islamic terrorists’ use of Latin American smuggling routes (for people and drugs), there will come a time when the Christian Latinos will understand how the Muslims despise them as infidels, and see them as disposable fools. Then the smugglers we distrust will slit the throats of the terrorists we fear. Let’s hope our fellow Christian smugglers understand in time.

We just came home to NC to retire after living in Ca for the last 35 years. The illegal immigration has ruined Ca forever. They own it now and they will go into every state and take it over eventually if something isn’t done NOW!. We need the fence, tougher laws on hiring illegals and immediate deportation when they’re caught! No DRIVERS LICENSES, THEY ARE ILLEGALS!!!

I’m aware of this report and many others that you do not have access to. As a Cage Code Government Military Defense Contractor, I have continually received such reports from various field agents that I work with over the course of the past few years.
As it happens, the Intel that I’m receiving is alarming and the field agents are expressing grave concern with respect to worry they are seeing in mid and upper management. In other words, their bosses are scared and have stepped up both training and procurement of tactical equipment.
DHS Secretary, Chertoff’s so called “gut feeling” about a possible attack occurring on US soil (this summer) is compelling enough evidence that the bad vibes I’ve been getting from my law enforcement clients is real.

My husband and I moved from Chaparral in April. We had been there for 5 years. Chaparral’s location is ideal for human smuggling since it’s only approx. 10 miles from El Paso. It’s location is also convenient because it’s easily accessible to Ft. Bliss, Holloman Air Force Base in Alamogordo, and White Sands Missile Range. Chaparral is divided by two counties, Dona Ana, and Otero. Both counties operate under the philosphy “Hear no evil, see no evil”. The officials that run both counties have done nothing to see that human smuggling is stopped. You have the problem of the landlords, or as my husband and I affectionately call them, slumlords hiring illegals to maintain their properties, and we personally believe that alot of the “slumlords” give sanctuary to these illegals. We’ve never had proof, but we believe that our former “slumlord” was one of these people. These people are smuggled into Chaparral, then they trash the town. Otero and Dona Ana counties do nothing to clean the town up. It looks like a 3rd world country out there. Then these people put up tiny little businesses whose legality is highly questionable, since you walk into one of them, and there are no legal documents hanging on the wall to prove they are there doing business legally. They have their crude, handpainte signs out on the side of the road advertising that they are open. My arms are open to refugees who are sincerely running for their very lives. But when they can afford to spend over $10,000 to a coyote to get across, that makes my blood boil. What about the ones who are trying to do this legally? Do they get pushed to the back of the line? We are so glad to be out of Chaparral. The illegals have turned that little community into a sanctuary, and have ruined it. Trash everywhere! Both counties doing NOTHING!!!! They know about it.

I am an American who has lived in Mexico for nearly 38 years (Guadalajara and Mexico City) and I can tell you without reservation that it would be almost impossible for Iraqis to be smuggled across the border( I am not saying impossible but almost). How did they get into Mexico? If the FBI is giving out this information, then we are really in trouble. Surely the FBI knows that the Mexican Government will not give visas to any Arab or Middle Eastern Muslims. In the whole country of Mexico there is only one public mosque , in the city of Torreon, and about three private mosques in Mexico City attached to certain embassies such as the Saudia Arabia and Syrian.
There are no mass of disaffected youths converting to Islam, as in the “Rest of Latin America”. That is not to say that there are not disaffected youths, but they seem to be either atheists or converting to Protestant sects such as Evangelists and especially Mormons. One fifth of the country is now Protestant. Doesn’t the FBI know how much the Mexican hate the Muslims? Don’t they know about the Intereligious Council (formed in 1992) comprised of Catholics, Jews, and various Protestant groups? One of their most important goals is to keep Muslims out of the country. Where do you see women in chadors in Mexico?
There are Lebanese and Palestinian Christians in Mexico (especially Lebanese, Carlos Slim being one of them and he is the second wealthiest man in the world) and usually the Lebanese Christians are not into funding or assisting Middle Eastern Muslims.

I just read my posting of yesterday and see the last half was not posted. I finish by saying that how then did the Iraqis get into Mexico? Illegally through Guatemala? From Belize with British passports or were they brought by boat across the Atlantic and dumped on some deserted Mexican Caribbean beach? Someone should ask the FBI where they get their information and who their informants are.

Well one half of the residents of Chapparal NM are all illegals, to quote one long time citizen, in a recent El Paso Times article. And we wonder what is Congress and the President doing, nothing.

Posted by: JG Montville | July 26, 2007, 11:22 am 11:22 am

One half of the resident of Chapparal NM may be illegals, I’m not disputing that. but they sure as hell aint Iraqis. And the title of the article is Brian Ross reports on Illegal Iraqis being smuggled across the Rio Grande.

Several years ago I was appointed to represent a Mexican immigration official that had been extardited from Mexico to the US to face charges of alien smuggling. He had worked with a middle eastern ring to allow middle easterners to get into Mexico legaly and then be transported to Juarez, Mexico to be smuggled into the US.
All the persons smuggled were proffessionals such as doctors and engineers who had the money to pay the large fees. Can it happen? Yes! The logistics of moving a person from the middle east to Mexico and then to the US are not that difficult. The propblem is the Mexicans antipathy for middle easterners of all sorts and the difficulty in communications from Spanish to Arabic, farsi etc.
Last but not least there is Canada — much easier and the country from which our cross border threats have already come. Also, too many CCL’s AZ, NM & TX.

Use Google Earth and follow the US/Mexican border with it and you’ll see why a fence in impractical.

Well at least we know the FBI can see things that no mere mortals are able to see.
We do wonder how they managed to let all the Saudis out on Sept 13 though.
Well, it’s been a good 6 years. And our news media are teetering on the brink of actually reporting this stuff that’s been on the net the whole time.

Posted by: rainbow sally | October 18, 2007, 5:04 am 5:04 am

when is it a terrorist crossing, is it when an person crosses across the border or is it just simply when A MUSLIM crosses the border. I get the feeling that, Americans think all muslims are terrorists. Maybe these people just found a way too get to a place that they can feel safe and secure. If you ask me we invaded their country, and they have the right to invade ours. after all America was created by Invaders from another land. What do you think about what the Native Americans though when White man crossed and ivaded their land. This country is becoming very Ignorant and arrogant by the day. We should be Ashamed how we behave. No wonder the world can’t stand American Imperialism.
