Bush E-Mail Mystery Deepens: White House Won’t Name Tech Contractor

The White House will not identify a private company which appears to be involved in the disappearance of potentially millions of White House e-mails. The company was responsible for reviewing and archiving White House e-mails, a White House official told congressional staff in May, according to a letter yesterday from House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Henry Waxman, D-Calif. Congressional investigators asked then for the name of the company and "have repeatedly requested" the information since then, according to Waxman. They are still waiting for an answer, the chairman wrote to White House counsel Fred Fielding. Waxman asked the White House to come up with the company’s name by Sept. 10. White House spokesman Scott Stanzel declined to tell the Blotter on ABCNews.com the company’s name or explain why the White House would not provide it to Congress. "We are reviewing Rep. Waxman’s letter and will respond expeditiously," Stanzel said in an e-mailed statement. Click Here for Full Blotter Coverage. According to the White House, as many as five million e-mails may not have been properly archived and may be lost forever, in apparent violation of the Presidential Records Act. The post-Watergate law states that communications relating to official activity in the offices of the president and vice president are owned by the American public and cannot be destroyed. The unnamed firm "was responsible for the daily audits of the e-mail system and the e-mail archiving process," Waxman said a White House briefer had attested in a May meeting. The firm worked for the Information Assurance Directorate, under the White House chief information officer, Waxman said he was told. In addition to requesting the firm’s name, Waxman’s staff has also asked to see a White House report which detailed the days on which few or no e-mails were archived; the White House has been similarly unresponsive to that request, Waxman charged, and asked it provide the document by Sept. 10 as well. Do you have a tip for Brian Ross and the Investigative Team? This post has been revised.

are we really surprised??? no email, no paper trail…..
do people actually think the white house would allow any entity, other than itself or these private contractors that they refuse to name, to have prying eyes look into the illegality of some of the emails and who sent them to whom, etc….
I think not!

As someone who worked in the tech industry for many years, the idea that millions of offical government emails would somehow be “lost forever” is ridiculous. No amount of gross incompetence can explain the meticulous, deliberate, and repeated steps needed to erase data which is copied or “mirrored” in real time onto multiple servers located in different geographic locations. Archived files are further protected by off-site and offline storage separate again from all of the above. The odds of all these databases being “accidentally erased” are less than zero by multiple decimal points.

How convenient – Doesn’t it make you wonder what the Bush Regime is up to and what they are trying to hide? They still think most of us are plain stupid. Didn’t Karl Rove claim to loose his emails also? This excuse is getting really old.

Politicians are like fighting siblings….bicker, b*&%$ and bicker some more! Shred them like Hillary Clinton and the Clinton administration or just archive them eternally lost….some things are just not meant to see to read by the public eye. Maybe that is why I can still sleep at night. That is where they get the saying….”Ignorance is bliss.” We voted them into the office. Let them do the job that we hired them to do and if we dont like it in the end…..DONT RE-ELECT THEM!

The White House is full of crooks, liars, and thieves and Congress and the Senate are full of cowards and collaborators. Terrorism isn’t a tiny fraction of the threat to this country that Bush, Cheney, Rove and the Republican AND Democratic leaderships are. Our rights are stolen from us in the name of “protecting” us. Our money, our childrens money, and our grandchildrens money are diverted into the pockets of a select few who grease the palms of our elected leadership. We need to start at the top with Bush, Cheney, and company – remove them from office, try and convict them of the treason they’ve commited on the American people. From there we need to go straight down the lines of the Republican and Democrat leaderships and through the “big business” crooks they’ve sold us out to. Try, convict, and execute the lot of them – after taking what they’ve stolen and returning it to the people.
Seriously.

Not surpising since The State of Texas mysteriously (read conviently) lost his driving records when he was getting ready to run for pres.
Frankly, if you can’t produce your driving record and pass a credit check, you shouldn’t be able to run for president…or Congress. Wouldn’t it be better to make all candidates be tested of IQ? We wouldn’t be in the mess we’re in if people had seen behind the good ól boy facáde and knew up front he was a dunce before we elected him?

Sounds like another Sandy Berger (burglar) episode from the Clinton administration! Look at the second post by “bush-is-guilty” – can’t even write without using profanity. That’s how the rabid liberal left of this country show us their lack of intelligence and illiteracy. So, can anyone tell me what happened when Sandy Berger stole documents out of the National Archives? Why should this be any different?

The Bush Administration is the largest, most criminal tragedy to ever happen in U.S. Government. Problem is, do we have any Patriots left smart enough to out smart them and put them in Jail where they all belong??? I highly doubt it based on the dog and pony shows we have been subject to so far.

Posted by: ron | August 31, 2007, 12:25 pm 12:25 pm

They won’t give the name because then Congress could ask the company what happened and the company would either have to lie or say “we just did what the White House told us to do.”

Posted by: Rudy | August 31, 2007, 12:27 pm 12:27 pm

It appears that Cheney et al have learned their lessons from their time with the Nixon administration and know to destroy the records of their illegal activities.

Posted by: Sean | August 31, 2007, 12:28 pm 12:28 pm

As someone who worked for years on data networks with 99.999% reliability, the White House assertion of “accidental” loss of millions of emails is ridiculous. Such data is invariably mirrored not only on distinct servers in real time (located in different geographic locations) but is also archived offline in data vaults impervious to anything short of direct nuclear impact. No amount of gross incompetence can explain the many deliberate, meticulous, and repeated steps needed to destroy such data. The odds of this occuring by chance are less than zero by multiple decimal points.

Everything is shrouded in secrecy with this administration. When challenged, they invoke executive privilege trampling all over the constitution. Why so much secrecy if nothing illegal was done ? What is this about Bush’s campaign to bring democracy to other nations while at home he’s governing like Stalin. But this is from a holier than thou party of hypocrites ala Craig, Vitter, etc, etc.

Are these people serious? Why haven’t the Congress already started Impeachment proceedings on Bush and Cheney, it’s obvious they are crooked as a stick and obstruct, avoid responsibility, lie, and basically thumb their noses at the American Public and our Constitution. If this was a Democratic President oh my, we would have had billions of dollars of investigations every talking head would be out telling everyone how bad the Dems are, do we hear a peep from anyone with regards to this? No. Why, because ever since 9-11 Bush and Rove and Cheney have made it their goal to paint anyone and everyone who don’t agree with them as unpatriotic and traitors, so of course the Dems shut up and march lock step with the Nazi’s. How pathetic our government is.

Truly the best generation that ever lived is fading off…….

Posted by: Freddie | August 31, 2007, 12:56 pm 12:56 pm

They borrowed that one from Slick Willie and Hillary. Henry Waxman had this to say in his Minority Staff Report titled “Unsubstantiated Allegations of Wrongdoing Involving the Clinton Administration”, March 2001.
Quote:
“Several problems relating to the e-mail archiving system at the White House over the past few years prevented a subset of White House e-mails from being archived. These problems may have had some impact on White House document production, because the White House conducted searches of archived e-mails to respond to information requests from investigators.
The Committee received no information that any White House official intentionally created the e-mail problems, made any attempt to impede investigation of the problems, or had any knowledge of the content of e-mails that may not have been captured.”
In 2001 when the Clintons were being investigated, Waxman didn’t consider it to be an issue. Now he is in full attack mode. Can you say “hypocritical partisan politician”?

Posted by: ottomanwolf | August 31, 2007, 12:56 pm 12:56 pm

Posted by: Looken | August 31, 2007, 12:57 pm 12:57 pm

They learned from the best. This is what was being said about the Clinton Administration in 2000:
Rep. Bob Barr (R-Georgia) pointed to the continuing flap over the White House email messages that seemed to disappear after being subpoenaed.
“We’ve been having a series of hearings, the conclusion of which from the Clinton administration standpoint is, we don’t even know how to keep track of our own emails,”
If I remember correctly, Henry Waxman was one of the Clinton’s staunchest defenders at the time regarding their “lost” emails.

this appears to be another case of the white knowing what we as americans need to know and what we need to see for ourselves. mr bush and his pals think we are all too stupid to really undertsand all this and therfore should not ever see this information. mr rove decided what i should or should not see. mr snow tells me what i should or should not hear and we go blissfully down the road to complete and utter disstruction.so much for open and transparent governemnt lets see this would more likely look like closed and clouded government. we can’t get out of this war because mr bush believes it is not time and we can’t stop spending money o this war because mr bush says so and we can stop the war machine becaue mr chaney says so and we should support our troupes and keep them fighting in the streets to regain again and again the same positions, because it is anti american to do otherwise. ok i get it. The initiated a sub-prime economy by cutting taxes for the wealthy, anhihilating the middle class, and unprecidented debt.

This is simply unacceptable in a functional democracy. The Congress has a duty to investigate and find out why the Executive Branch doesn’t feel like it owes information to the American people, for whom they work and to whom they report. The audacity of this Administration is stunning. I sincerely hope that dedicated journalists and the members of Congress continue to demand accountability from the Bush Administration. Obviously, 6 years without oversight was a dangerous and reckless proposition. Please, let’s not repeat the past. The news media was envisioned by our Founders as the 4th pillar of democracy, acting as a liason between the government and the people. I commend this report for doing just that, and I call on all MSM to do the same. For the sake of our country, it is an imperative.

Once again, in a now familiar pattern, the current WORST-PRESIDENT-EVER has sunk lower than the former worst-president-ever. TrickyDick’s taping system and his 18 1/2-minute gap pales in comparison to the millions of potentially incriminating deleted e-mails. Like TrickDick, DickNBush are just stonewalling and covering up.
The Congress should know what to do. The high crimes and misdemeanors of DickNBush are essentially identical to those of Tricky. The Articles of Impeachment and transcript of TrickyDick’s impeachment hearings are readily available. It now just a simple matter of following the script.
I suggest appointing Russ Feingold as the lead Senator in the BushCheney impeachment proceedings and having him work with Nancy Pelosi and John Conyers to draft the Articles of Impeachment. There is no time to waste. PELOSI/CONGRESS: STOP STALLING AND DO YOUR JOB. Carpe Diem!

I work in IT and know a little something about how data retention is supposed to work.
Rule number 1: Always take a back-up of whatever file(s) you are modifying before each and every modification.
Rule number 2: Never violate rule number 1.
Somebody has obviously ordered the destruction of these records and the destruction of the back-ups. No CIO could keep their job under such a circumstance, even if so ordered. They should resign rather than clicking their heels then violate the very ethical foundation IT resides on.

The Watergate burglary and cover-up by TrickyDick pales in comparison to the high crimes and misdemeanors of DickNBush. Yet, because of Pelosi and the Congress, these criminals are not being held accountable for violating the Constitution and oath to uphold the law.
EIGHTY (80) US towns and cities now have resolutions calling for the impeachment of the DickNBush criminals. Pelosi provides the lame excuse that the Dems are focusing on ending the senseless neocon wars and can’t handle impeachment as well – in other words, Congressional Democrats can’t walk and chew gum at the same time. Impeachment proceeding must begin in the House. House Resolution 333 defines the articles of impeachment for Cheney – the necessary first step. Somebody with a backbone needs to proceed on that. Once the House does its Constitutionally mandated job, Sen Feingold and other patriots will carry the ball in the Senate. Let the Repugs in Congress defend the indefensible high crimes and misdemeanors of DickNBush – the American people need to know exactly who these co-conspirators and accomplices are before the 2008 election.

The difference between Bush Co. and Sandy Berger is that Berger took copies. As an American Citizen I would very much like to know copies of what, and I would support an investigation into that also. But that is a very different from ‘without a trace’.
This Whitehouse is very good at misdirection. Like the ‘Yellowcake’ story. This ain’t rocket science folks…
all we need is one of those emails to trace the path contained in the header’s routing info.
Once we have the originating IP address, we can then look up who “owns” that IP address and track down the “secret” email “disappearers”.
Didn’t someone like Greg Palast receive one or two of those emails accidentally?

I agree w/ the person above about the idea that these e-mails are “lost forever”. That’s absurd. You see, Mr. President, unlike you, I actually read things. The American people (well, 50% of us anyway) are NOT as stupid as you wish we were (and I worked in the tech industry as well).
As far as I’m concerned, these people, and all the way to the top for ignorance of the law is NO excuse, have some nerve calling themselves Americans, for they do not behave as Americans. They do not behave like people who believe in our system of government; they have their own set of rules and go by them. If you ask me, they are behaving like not-very-bright criminals, and ought to be dealt with accordingly.

All of the IT professionals are absolutely correct. There is NO WAY these emails were lost. And if they were, which they most definitely were not, but if, then the company officers who allowed this to happen should be facing a judge for violating the Presidential Records Act. Simple as that.
The company that retains this correspondence is employed by the citizens of the United States. We have every right to know who they are. Let’s say they WERE dumb enough to ‘lose’ 5 million emails, don’t all of us and all businesspeople have a right to know what screw-ups they are so they don’t get hired again?

I am also in IT, and I agree with the many other experienced posters here. I worked for a contractor with USDA. This stuff is put on tape and vaulted, often in unused converted missile silos. Now the tape for a particular day might turn out to be bad, but “millions” of emails over what is presumably a substantial period of time simply cannot be “lost”. This is a bald-faced lie.
I am continuously amused by the posters who somehow feel bringing up the Clinton administration is some kind of rationalization. What does what happened during the Clinton admin have to do with anything? It’s like, hey everybody, look over there! A bright shiny object! Please – some of us are not that stupid.

This was not an accident, as those that have been paying attention are aware. Most politicans are dishonest crooks, but few hold a candle to those that are in the White House now.
Since they are quilty of lying this country into war (and making a bundle of cash for themselves and their friends in the process)- of course they are going to do whatever it takes to keep the truth hidden.
It still saddens to see so many misguided fools are still letting themselves be used as NeoCon tools – whipped up into an ignorant frenzy. It is going to be hard on them when they are forced to face reality.

Anybody who has worked in IT knows that is rubbish, emails are copied on multiple servers on multiple sites, so to say that millions have been erased is a huge LIE. The Contractor of course can get those emails if the Gov wants them, But the Bush government is soo corrupt its highly unlikely.

Re: Jim J. Donaldson at 2:15 P.M., which says, “The difference between Bush Co. and Sandy Berger is that Berger took copies.”
I took interest in this case, because it is truly “bizarro” and, in my opinion, not adequately followed up by the Justice Dept or by investigative journalists. Went to the trouble to read the original reports and witness testimony and comments by the Commission members, as well as by officials at the Archives.
Yes, he took copies, but that’s not the whole story. He was unsupervised, against regulations, for many hours with boxes of uncatalogued and uncopied originals of correspondence, notes, and the like. Why not copied/catalogued, I don’t know. Conjecture: he destroyed some copies so that he could later claim that’s ALL he did.
But, conjecture aside, what IS clear is that he had a uniquely arranged opportunity to do away with potentially important things besides copies of official documents. You may not think that’s an important detail, but I do.
And now I think, as well, that he might have done away with sensitive stuff reflecting on both the Clinton and Bush administrations. Why else was he not investigated harder and/or punished more severely by the Bush Justice Department? They have 112,000 people on the payroll, after all. Seems they could find time to dig into this more strenuously, doncha think?

As I recall the default choice for email platform in less sophisticated areas of the federal government is the Microsoft Exchange platform. Occasional spontaneous loss of data without means of recovery is a hallmark of this vendor’s software in general and of Exchange in particular.
Notwithstanding the point another poster makes that modern backup and recovery practices make the complete and total loss of the raw data in a system unlikely, such practices are frequently absent in environments where system administrators rely wholly on functionality within the Exchange platform.
In fact, one might rather expect that having an email environment based on Exchange would have been a requirement put forth by the pack of thieving, lying weasels within the administration.

We choose not to change it because it depends on who’s in office. How can a President sign a law one day and ignore it the next? Never mind about whether it’s constitutional or violates our civi rights; it’s okay if we like him, it’s not okay if we don’t.
We need to look into how we want each branch of our government to function so that one individual or party cannot manipulate it.

Considering how rabidly the republicans went after Clinton for lying about a sexual encounter (and no, I don’t approve of what he did), I am really dismayed at the lack of reproach for an administration that has continually lied about virtually EVERYTHING they have done.
At least Clinton’s lies didn’t cost the lives of thousands of our brave men and women – not to even mention the lives of hundreds of thousands Iraqis.
If a lie about a sexual encouter was on the table as grounds for impeachment, then why in the world aren’t the deadly lies from this administration grounds not only for impeachment, but for prosecuting them with treason?
The administration demands that ISP’s hold all our email so that it can be examined for criminal activity. The ‘loss’ of the administration’s emails is just one more example of their ‘do as we say, not as we do’ attitude.
After all, only the working class people are supposed to obey the law – not the ones making the laws (at least in the minds of the criminals that are occupying the White House).

Posted by: Henry E. Lenz | September 1, 2007, 11:19 am 11:19 am

Ok, let me get this straight. People in a private company can look at the emails. But executive privilege is invoked to prevent congress for doing so?
How can executive privilege have any standing if you’ve already allowed private citizens to see the emails?

Posted by: T P | September 1, 2007, 11:22 am 11:22 am

It should be fairly straightforward and relatively easy to find out what company did it, whether the White House “names” it or not, so this is as much an excuse on the part of Congress as it is a dodge on the part of obviously scurrying criminals.

E-mail messages tend to leave multiple copies of themselves, and create numerous log entries all along their way though multiple networks, routers, servers and ultimately desktop workstations (typically PC-like platform) for the user to read, reply, save/delete, forward, etc. My point is that this deeply interwoven fabric of message transfers is not something from which “millions” of messages could be inadvertantly, yet permanently removed

Posted by: LJ | September 1, 2007, 11:54 am 11:54 am

Excuse me? The White House refuses to name the firm processing its mail?
We have already learned that Rove and others were using these non-governmental email accounts for their regular White House work.
They may very well have been discussing classified matters on any number of occasions.
(See where I’m going with this, folks?)
Has the White House or anybody been able to certify that either this unnamed company has a sufficient security clearance to ‘audit and process’ these emails?
Has classified information been transmitted via email through this insecure server provider?
If the emails have been ‘lost’, is it not also possible they fell into the hands of foreign agents? Is this not a threat to national security? These seem to be questions Congress should be asking.
Oh, right, silly me. These are Republicans. Rules don’t apply to them, unless they get caught soliciting a blowjob in an airport bathroom. Then it’s KA-WHAMMO!
Yeesh.

Read Rani Above folks, how does it go missing?
“As someone who worked in the tech industry for many years, the idea that millions of offical government emails would somehow be “lost forever” is ridiculous. No amount of gross incompetence can explain the meticulous, deliberate, and repeated steps needed to erase data which is copied or “mirrored” in real time onto multiple servers located in different geographic locations. Archived files are further protected by off-site and offline storage separate again from all of the above. The odds of all these databases being “accidentally erased” are less than zero by multiple decimal points.”
Those e-mails are probably still recoverable.

Posted by: Rodney | September 1, 2007, 12:34 pm 12:34 pm

We already have word that guys like Rove were using their private accounts almost exclusively.
It seems not a leap of faith to assume that occasionally matters of a sensitive nature or even national security topics were being discussed.
The White House insists nobody can have access to these emails, the Administration feeling secrecy is so important.
So here are my questions, some of which have been asked before, but now expanded upon:
1) Was national security breached because these unsecure 3rd-party servers were being used by high White House officials? In other words, were sensitive matters discussed via email on these non-WH systems?
2) Does the White House, Congress, or any official body have on file a certification that this 3rd-party provider has clearance to handle top-secret (and above) security matters? (Betcha my right arm no such certification exists.)
3) Is it possible that these emails did not merely ‘go lost’ but could possibly have fallen into the hands of foreign espionage agencies?

Posted by: Becca Morn | September 1, 2007, 12:42 pm 12:42 pm

Ever wonder WHY all this is happening?
Let’s look at the origins. The White House is presently run by NeoConservatives. What is a NeoConservative? The NeoConservatives were a group of Russian Jewish social theorists from the late 1800s-early 1900′s who were big big fans of people like Karl Marx, Leon Trotsky and Vladimir Ulyanov (Lenin). During Woodrow Wilson’s presidency they were very influential, and thats why the term “Wilsonian Interventionist” came about as Wilson believed the USA should extend its military power out as much as possible. Now lets skip over to the Soviet Union, that militaristic, paranoid communist state. You see the Soviets were pretty much the same as NeoConservatives, having the very same origins. Fast forward to the Reagan Revolution where NeoConservatives began to take power over old guard Goldwater conservatives, and now you see why all this is happening.
Its a shocking revelation once you understand it, but the NeoConservatives want to CHANGE the USA into a Soviet-style paranoid communist state!
The red scare is real folks. We will be the USSA in a few years if we’re not careful.

They are being secretive because they are criminals of the highest order. They are on the same level of the Third Reich. To think that they will ever be honest about the activities they have engaged in is sheer lunacy.

Why is this listed as a “mystery”? Isn’t this a blatant attempt at a coverup!? This is yet another piece in a growing pattern of lies and avoidance, one which looked bad when it was just Iraq and Katrina, but which is now growing to encompass the entire Bush Administration.
How can the White House have even made such a contract without it being a public record? How can the Congress, even a Republican Congress, let something like this pass for 6 years?
What other “outsourcing” has the White House done that nobody knows about?!
This is moving from the ridiculous to the outrageous, and I would hope the media start to take this seriously…!

I have worked in the data processing business for 45 years and if you want something do disappear, just say the word. Most people of this younger generation in the IT world think backups are old fashioned and many have never had to restore a backup that was just 2 years old. As a test of this old man’s belief, try it Tuesday when you get back to work. I’ll keep checking back for the first post of a successful restore from two years ago by anybody.

There are so many people involved and so many people complicit. Sounds like conspiracy to overthrow the government of the United States Of America. Treason is what its called.

It seems to me, that the democratic congress was going to get to the bottom of all this mess, (that’s why we elected them I thought) and then later, become wishy washy. What does Bush do or say to our congress to alter their original plans, we the people’s wishes and protecting the Constitution?

It’s not enough that YOU kept this administration in power, that YOU refuse to remove the Waxmans, the Pelosis’, the Reids who are now enabling the traitorous .

What a colossal outrage. The ongoing level of arrogance displayed by this so-called “administration” is beyond sickening.
Whatever it takes, Bush et al need to be reeled in and held accountable to the American people they claim to serve.
If their actions are found to be in violation of law and/or the constitution, they should be punished accordingly.

What we have as American’s before us is the generation of the Vietnam war! Remember the groups calling for a “communist” victory in Naim? Well Clinton and his backers in the Demo party “headed” such groups! The communists KGB admited that they were “very much” involved in the (so-called) peace movement! (Which called for a communist victory in Naim)! The media of course never questioned that they were just normal patriotic Americans! Even tho they also carried the “communist” flag! And “many” were not even Americans, but students from many European countrys! However the “media” did not even bother with telling the American people! Well they never lost their dream of a “fantasy” world! Even after hearing how communism was in the USSR! Jimmy Carter as you may know assisted the the radical Islamist in their take-over in Iran! He also handed over the Panama Canal, were there are now “communist” Chinese maning the former USA military bases! 50 to 100 thousand. Where we now see the “result” of! (Do they take responsibility for it??) Think! How many liberals can you think of that EVER take responsiblity for “anything” they do? But blame “others” for their failures. And “expect” others to pay for what they do! Mr.Clinton gave the Long Beach base in Ca to Communist China were thousands of Chinese ships come each mth! Just a few mths before they had caught a ship with more than 8000 AK47s on board!( A very lucky find I must say.) In Clintons second run to be president the Chinese communist “funneled” money thru dumby corp. Setup by a branch of the “Red army”. Clintons response to terrorist killing “Americans” was to bomb an asprine factory in Africa! Killing many innocent people and not ONE TERRORIST! But the Europeans “loved” and Loves” Clinton. Because he used Americas military at “their behest” in Yugoslavia! Our pay off by the Islamics “after saving their lives”. Was to carry a war to our shores! By the way we had Islamic friends in Ca (nice people) but they could not understand why I objected to communism! So you see there is a close relation between Islam and communism. One being of course both are “totalitarian”! Look for the link of a world wide cooperation by leftist and Islamics to control the world!(I am sure many of the posters here are from “many” countrys and party to, of which I am speaking of!)

Elises…is that all you have to defend the Bush Crime Family, to blame Clinton and Sandy Berger? How sad…we’re talking apples and hand grenades here. Wise up. Somehow I think Berger was able to only stuff maybe 3 million e-mails into his trousers max. Every time Bush screws up, whiic is like 10 times a week, the first cry of defense for the Bushies, “Well, Bill Clinton did it first!” and 99 percent of the time it’s so disproportionate it is laughable. Get a clue…admit that Bush is the worst president in U.S. history and find some closure.

Posted by: MarkieBee | September 2, 2007, 11:33 pm 11:33 pm

Let me say what has been said already – How *@#%ing convenient.
Also, if we the American people do not hold the S.O.B.’s accountable, we only have ourselves to blame. Many of the main players in this administration were responsible for major problems in past administrations. Heck, Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld have caused havoc in Washington going all the way back to the Ford administration. When will we learn from our past? This is not a partisan issue. This is an issue about the ability of power to corrupt, and this administration is the perfect example of that.

Posted by: R | September 2, 2007, 11:52 pm 11:52 pm

One more thing. Americans – hold these people responsible for their crimes. The integrity of the United States of America depends on it.
There needs to be accountability in D.C.
Quit voting for the candidates with the biggest pile of money and start paying attention to what they actually stand for. In fact follow the money. All this money it takes for a candidate to campaign makes the candidate owned by special interests. Our representatives in government do not make decisions based on the best interest of the people. They make the decisions based on the best interests of those who pay them.
Those who fought the Revolution throw off the chains of tyranny must be rolling over in their grave as the indivual rights that made this nation a great nation have been usurped.

What should bother us, as tax payers more, is that the executive branch apparently can enter into scrert contracts. What happened to the Congress having the power of the purse? Posted by: fubar | September 3, 2007, 4:23 pm 4:23 pm

If anyone on the planet wants to impeach President Bush simply read and listen to the transcipts and audio of what he said and ordered from Aug. 28th – Sept 18th 2005 regarding Katrina and the citizens located there. On those tapes you will hear Ben Bernake, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Chertoff, and Bush order the killing of 1000′s of US citizens (coons as he calls them), pets and animals, and total distruction of US property on US soil. “Turkey shoot by day and coon hunt by night”. This is a direct impeachable offense for which his presidency will always be considered the most horrific. The murders of millions of innocent lives (combatents, insurgents, militants, secterian fundamentalists…..whatever slogan you wish) in other countries may be “forgotten” because of the label of terrorism…….though his killings of thousands of innocent US citizens by Bush’s direct orders can NEVER be forgotten. (Bernake become Fed chairman 6 months after Katrina. It is never a secret that Bush rewards “trust and confidentiality” over any and all crimes. Bernake is now in place to thwart any connection to GHWBush Sr., the Savings and Loan crimes, and our current mortgage collapse until Bush is out of office.)

OK. That’s like asking a perpetrator to make a case against himself. We’re
expecting beings in the highest echelons of governments to provide damaging evidence against themselves. Would we expect a speeder to carry a radar gun and clock himself? Would we expect a robber to produce the camera to film himself during the event?
I believe that the communications would likely hit multiple servers. Operated properly, the servers would have backups, meaning that one does not have to rely solely on the originating source.
Is this not the same country that cracked the code for the Enigma machines? Yet, we cannot ‘locate’ e-mails which have relatively minor security?
Awake America!!!! The Constitution was compromised with the Patriot Act. There is no oversight anymore. There are no checks and balances. What remains is an Executive Branch that dwarfs the Legislative and Judicial.

The most secretive administration in my 70-year-long lifetime. Maybe the most secretive ever in the country’s history. Compared to these guys, Richard Nixon was a transparent blabbermouth, always spilling the beans.
Of course all the intrigue and censorship and general mishigas is in the interests of “national security” — even the secret meeting of Cheney’s energy policy task force that met before 9/11.

It is unbelivable that all of this is happening, it’s in the news daily.
The Bush administration give us stupid excuses or no excuses at all, but whats even more stupid is us. For allowing it to happen and worse for not doing anything about it. Some of us don’t even know where to start or what to do about it but the Democrat adminstration sits on the side lines and only bitches about it. Who is worse?
Lets start taking care of the real problems. Example putting up a wall at the border. It will take longer to put up then tearing down. I can give a easy dozen ways to WALK IN without sneaking in. Release those you catch OTM (other then Mexicans) and give a court date and you know they won’t show up and good luck tracing them down. I rather have a drug dealer in my neighborhood then a terrorist. USA land of opportunity… for everyone but us. I am a hispanic Mexican American one parent born in Mexico the other in the U.S. and my parents worked for everything they had. Come from another Country and we have to help them out. If we can’t take care of our own what the hell are we doing helping others. I say have them work for at least 5 continous years with absoulutly no goverment assistance and then lets see if they qualify, not just give it to them because they’re immigrants.
We need to know who we vote for.
Well after venting I say IMPEACHMENT!!

The funny thing about time is that it can mask change so well. One of you compared this incident to more overt and violent crimes such as rape and murder, but they should not be held next to each other. In the long run, this is far worse, it’s only one in an endless string of pieces chipped off our true Democracy. Of course, no democracy is perfect, including ours, but this group in charge is doing all it can to expand govt. reduce it’s need to answer and respect questions or concern, and to tighten us slowly into a group who cannot think, live, or believe anything for ourselves.

Ok first of all. the reason the names are not being released of the contracted company is for security reasons. In the wake Of September 11th one would assume that people would realize that others in the world might find official goverment correspondance useful for things like ummmmmmm WAR PLANS. Next those individuals that archive emails are low level techs at best with a GED and an AA who make maybe 25-30k a year. They are easily bought off. So the potential to exposing their company to possible enimies is so great its not worth the shouting match possed by you raging radical left wingers. Lets talk about emails when we could be talking ABOUT ILLEGAL CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS AND FUNDRAISERS FOR DEMS WITH PRIVATE GROUPS WHO WOULD BENIFIT GREATLY FROM PROPOSED CHANGES IN NATIONAL SECURITY. wow all of you are worthless. History will proove what a great president you have and what jack asses you all are. But that would mean you would have to eventualy pick up a history book let alone a book at all and learn something about your party’s people, views, and morals. How about asking the question WHY WONT ANY CANIDATE RUNNING FOR DEM NOMINATIONS ATTACK HILLARY CLINTON HMMMM MAYBE BECAUSE EVERYONE THAT DOES ENDS UP DEAD!!! I THINK THE TOTAL NUMBERS OF MYSTERIOUS DEATHS OF PEOPLE CLOSESLY RELATED TO SCANDALS WITH THE CLINTONS TOTAL SOMEWHERE AROUND 260ish HMMMM THAT ISNT A TALKING POINT. Oh my, we have the silly weenies here trying to politicize this, “Oh the Dems have their skeletons in the closet, blah blah blah”. Duh. This is about Bush and millions of “disappeared” emails, one of many evasions on that administrations’ part. And really, there is nothing in comparison so far in the annals of American history to the way these boys play. They must think we are real idiots. And as one of the posters says, there is no way these several millions emails could just disappear – they are mirrored and archived and to make sure every last one of them are gone very specific steps must be taken to do that. Of course they are trying to get rid of the record. Please – powers that be – these people are riding roughshod to a degree you can’t tolerate. All faith in the gov’t. is rapidly approaching zero. You must remove this clown asap. We can’t wait for impeachment – get rid of him now!
