Gingrich Not Running in ’08
EmailABC News’ Lindsay Hamilton reports: ABC News has learned that former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, D-Ga., will not seek the presidency in 2008. Gingrich has kept campaign watchers guessing by delaying his decision for months. As recently as Thursday, it was reported that he was planning to launch a website this coming Monday in an effort to raise $30 million by Oct. 21 to support a possible candidacy.
Despite those earlier indications, Gingrich spokesman Rick Tyler confirms that Gingrich is staying out. Tyler said Gingrich plans to "remain a citizen activist," continuing his work with American Solutions for Winning the Future, a non-partisan organization aimed at rising above partisan gridlock to provide solutions to issues facing the United States.
This Sunday Gingrich will appear exclusively on ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos.

Newt had his chance with the Contract With America 1994. He masterminded the Republicans takeover of the house and senate and then reneged on almost every point in the “contract”.

Newts critics here are whistling past the graveyard.. Their time would be better spent praying that Giuliani does not pick him as a running mate. He would destroy any democrat in a serious head to head debate.

It’s a real shame. I’m a Dem, but I love Newt because he is substance over PR-speak, unlike every other candidate. And Scott is right-he would DESTROY any other candidates in the debates. So, get ready for another snooze-fest of the uninspired, for the apathetic, in 08.

Too bad. Newt and Rudy would have made a good “moral values” ticket. At least they could have counted on 6 votes, the cumulative total of their wives.

I don’t understand why Newt would do this to us! Doesn’t he understand how easily he could win the White House, especially if he runs against Hillary? Everyone in the country would remember all the good times, with him as Speaker of the House, facing off against a Clinton. Just like old times, we would wistfully yearn for the nostalgia of yesteryear.
Look we Republicans need to have the distraction of a new candidate every couple of weeks to take the stench off the giant pile of manure we call the pool of Republican Presidential Candidates. Since Fred Thompson doesn’t seem to have made that pile smell any more like lilacs, and Newt isn’t joining

Newt Gingrich is still alive? Isn’t this the same Newt Gingrich who resigned in shame as Republican Speaker of the House? The same Newt Gingrich that was having an affair with an intern while leading the witch hunt against Clinton for doing the same thing? The same Newt Gingrich that informed his wife he wanted a divorce while she was laying in a hospital bed dying from cancer? THAT Newt Gingrich?

Of course the US isn’t going to stick with the hard right in 2008. The US is still recovering from the mistakes that W has made. Hopefully, these guys will be gone for good.

Republicans thinking Newt is electable is the same as Democrats thinking that Hillary is electable. Both parties like their own. But outside the party, neither has any support.

People want to turn the page. Maybe that is why Obama is gaining steam. He reminds me of Clinton in ’92. Obama now leads Clinton in likely Iowa caucus-goers. Let’s not forget Dean, McCain and all the other early leaders who nearly always flame out by the end. Right on the war when it mattered, a uniter and very principled, Obama is a good one to watch.

I can’t believe ABC news has sunk so low as to take Gingrich seriously. The guy has demonstrated repeatedly that he is a dispicable individual. When he hung up on Diane Reahm of NPR, I thought the news media would finally open their eyes regarding him. How blind can you be?

How unfortunate! The publicity given to Newt Gingrich story speaks volumes of what a great candidate who would have been. He is indeed a political think-tank who understands clearly the challenges facing this great nation and the possible solutions to tackle them.
He would have been a fine president to restore national pride in the highest office.
