New Study Harsh on DHS Failures
A new study sharply criticizes the four-year-old Department of Homeland Security for failing at a broad spectrum of its assigned responsibilities. The Government Accountability Office (GAO) found DHS lagging in areas ranging from emergency preparedness and response to immigration services to bookkeeping, according to a report released today. GAO found the department has fallen short or failed entirely at a litany of missions, including: implementing a biometric exit system to track people leaving the United States; ensuring the removal of criminal aliens; developing an air cargo screening system; and providing timely assistance and services to victims of disasters and other emergencies. Click Here for Full Blotter Coverage. In its response to the report, the department criticized the GAO’s study, accusing the office of changing its criteria midway through the study and failing to value progress on vital security-related tasks above less important administrative ones. GAO Comptroller General David M. Walker is slated to testify before Congress this afternoon on his office’s findings. Do you have a tip for Brian Ross and the Investigative Team?

Odd isn’t it, that the GAO said the same thing about Iraq.

Well that makes me feel safe. Thank you George Bush and all the other Republicans.

This is exactly why Ron Paul is right in stating that this agency is wasteful government spending.

The guy “in charge” of Homeland Security is an idiot. Katrina was enough proof for me. Shertoff was on TV four days in a row telling everyone how everything was under control. However, I sat and watched for four days in a row scenes from within my own country that looked like it was straight out of a third-world country. I have no confidence in his department. When another terrorist attack does occur (and it will),I realize that I need to be prepared to take care of myself for an undetermined amount of time and certainly will not count on the division of Homeland Insecurity.

Dude, Ron Paul got totally pwned by Huck, last night for .. well, for Ron being completely nutty.
Oh, and let’s thank the Dems for the endless, non-productive bickering for straight up political points – and the fools who believe them.
Go .. uh .. team!

And what the blazes is the GAO supposed to know about security? Pray tell?

I know DHS failed on immigration enforcement to date, only 11 miles of border fencing is built. I still see a lot of illegals crowding the streets in the good old USA. I’m seeing more illegal aliens coming in day in and day out.
Maybe, we should abolish DHS and INS and leave the enforcement of immigration to the States.

BTW, you don’t have to be educated to criticize DHS about their accomplishments. Everybody knows that building the South of the border fence has not shown any progress. That is incompetence.
