“World News’” New Set & Anchor Desk
Director of “World News with Charles Gibson” Eric Siegel blogs: On New Year’s Eve, “World News with Charles Gibson” previewed its new set and anchor desk. We’ve been on the road in Iowa and New Hampshire since then, so tonight you’ll be seeing the official debut. The new set is a warmer, more intimate environment that takes its cues from the on-air style and approach of Charlie Gibson himself. It features an even wider array of technological tools than its predecessor, including additional areas for presentation and video displays that are among the brightest and sharpest available. The anchor desk is also the most fully-featured we’ve ever constructed, giving Charlie and our team of correspondents all the tools they’ll need for ABC’s coverage of the upcoming presidential election. And it’s all HD-ready for when “World News” makes its transition to high-definition in the coming months. Below are pictures of the set, let us know what you think by posting a comment.

That’s a much warmer looking set than the last one, and I like it. This fits Charlie’s personality much better. The previous set looked cold an uninviting. Good work.

Hmmm. Make that AND uninviting, please.

It looks nice and I love ABC NEWS and Charlie is the best! Now tell that to your advertisers that a 20 something year old watches the evenings and local news!

I miss the “rim.” This feels like it’s from an isolated studio… not the center of the ABC World News operation.

I agree Steve. This is a much warmer set, but people want to know their news is as up-to-date as it can be. The same feel that Peter Jenning’s intro for years had with the pictures of the team writing copy and researching stories. The noises and images helped to make the viewer feel the information Peter was delivering was important, topical, and urgent.
I’m afraid the new set has a news-magazine studio feel: closed in, scripted, and flashy. I think both warm and newsroom-like can be achieved at the same time.
I still enjoy Charlie and ABC’s platform the best. I’ll continue to watch, and yes, I’m a 20-something as well.

I love the set + ABC NEWS. My favorite shows are actually WN, 20/20, GMA, Nightline, and Primetime.

Can’t wait to see good ol’ Charlie Gibson in High Defition. It’s very overdue.

I find it funny that in the 2nd picture, if you look at the man at the left of the photo. You can see him watching the NBC Nightly News and the CBS Evening News pre-air cue.

WHEN ARE YOU GOING HIGH DEF? Wikipedia says you are going HD in early March 08. It’s early April.
