Clinton Continues to Paint Obama as Out of Touch
ABC News’ Eloise Harper reports: Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, landed in Indiana Monday and picked up where she left off yesterday – hammering Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., hard on the gas tax.
"I think it’s a false choice as my opponent and others have been trying to say. ‘Oh we can’t do anything in the short run to help people – we can only worry (about) the long run.’ People live in the short run. People get up every day and have to go fill up their tanks."
Clinton wanted the people of Merrillville, IN to know that she understands the value of the dollar. Speaking about her plan to have the oil companies pay the gas tax this summer Clinton said, "My opponent Senator Obama, he disagrees with me. He wants you to pay it. Not the oil companies. And he’s always going on TV, and he’s always saying ‘oh you know that’s just like $20 dollars.’ Well you know for a lot people $20 dollars is something right? $20 dollars means something."
Clinton pointed out the importance of the race tomorrow in a larger context – but the outcome in Indiana is equally critical for the survival of her campaign. "Tomorrow is consequential. Every election is important. But this one holds special significance. Because after what we have been through these last seven years – we know we’ve got to get a hold of our country."
Concluding her remarks, Clinton pointed to a sign she had seen in the audience and said, "I do see you, and I do hear you. I do believe that you’re doing the best you can under difficult circumstances and were going to get in there and we’re going to reverse these circumstances but in the meantime lets provide a little help along the way. So you feel like you’ve got some leadership again."

The problem for Obama is the fact he never offered up any alternative for the gas tax holliday.
He just sat there pointing the finger at his opponent. Voters sit in the middle and could care less about the political MIND GAMES .
They just see one person actually TRY to do something, and the other one whining and complaining about it.
Obama had the high road on the gas tax, but then BLEW IT by not offering anything himself.

Hill has no respect for people, considering that everybody has to listen to her immature ideas about this gas holiday which came from McCain by the way, is just unthinkable. Her plan is to make 28 cents available for everybody by taking money from road and bridge safety funds i.e. giving us 28 cents money to go on unsafe roads and bridges, that is just incredible. Can somebody tell her that even McCain has abandonned the idea. Can she stop insulting our intelligence. We know that she is hunting the blue-color again or the old, but please this does not make it. God save America from BillHilary, FoxNews, McCain and Hannety. God bless America and God bless Obama. OBAMA08.

Hillary is the best candidate in this race. She is talking to us, we can hear her well, she is connecting with middle class America, the people that win elections. Her husband is doing the same going to small towns, talking to the people and listening to them, can’t be better than that. In the other hand Obama is all about big speeches, big campaign events, long term solutions only, dream of the future, etc. We can’t have a future if we can’t tackle the current issues head on and to do that we need leadership. As Bill Clinton did it in the past Hillary will do it again and probably better. We need a leader and she is showing us the real Hillary. Obama should learn from her and from Bill instead of trying to divide the party blind for his personal ambitions!
Go Hillary, the country needs you, we Democrats need you!

If Obama is “out of touch,” then so are the majority of the voters who voted for him, NOT for her. An alternate, and more likely explanation, is that Clinton is not telling the truth–AGAIN–out of desperation for her failed candidacy. Clinton is toast!

It is very funny Obama offered nothing but complaining…This is the exactly what he is: “empty’ speech vs substance….

Most Obama supporters are gambling, voting for a completely untested candidate without no records, experience, bills passed or proven leadership. I can tell they watch way to much reality shows and bought into the millions of dollars in ads, Hollywood production stages, big arenas entertainment like events and cheap rhetoric.
Obama has never been a leader, no even in Chicago or Illinois. I went to school at the U. of Chicago and never heard of this dude. I heard of his wife, that she was a power hunger cocky lady. Thats it!
No with Obama. This are not times to teach a wimp or light weight candidate. We need a leader that is tough and can deal with big issues.
Go Hillary 2008!

Clinton sold out America when she voted for the Iraq war. She was out of touch with reality then and she out of touch with reality now.
She didn’t have the spine then to standup, and she doesn’t have it now.
She and the majority of Congress, did not have the moral authority to lead then, and they do not now.
She and the majority of Congress do not deserve our vote.

Several misconceptions have been posted by Obama supporters concerning the gas tax suspension proposal.
Initially, Hillary Clinton’s proposal would require that any lost revenues resulting from the temporary gas tax suspension would be paid for with oil company profits.
The boogeyman approach of those who would have us believe the temporary tax elimination will make roads unsafe or eliminate jobs suggests misunderstanding or an attempt at misinformation.
For those who suggest that a few cents a gallon is not enough, you are proabably right.
But, no one piece of legislation is going to get the economy back up and running as it should be.
Simply put, the economic woes did not emerge overnight and will require a lot of changes, not just the temporary suspension of a tax.
But, it is a start, and at least Clinton and McCain are doing something.
Regarding this issue, Barack Obama has done….
Nothing….

I guess the fact that 200 of the nations leading economists have written a letter proclaiming the Gas tax repeal a bad decision. Hillary is going to double down on the bad decision in order to pander for votes in the short term. Next she will be outright paying for votes. She is shameless and scandal ridden.

Peter_Indy for Hill, could you tell us what Hill has done as a senator, she is trying to run on the performance of her huseband in the 1990s, we have to understand that old solutions cannot work in the 21 st century. Look at her offer for a gas holiday which she has stollen from McCain, do you believe that that kind of politics will work in 2008? Pathetic, America needs real solutions and not pandering. The “Born to lead-Clinons Cult” will not work this time around. God bless America and God bless Obama. OBAMA08.

If Hillary thinks that $20 or $30 dollars is going to help me survive it shows that she is out of touch and an elitist. Only those who have millions of dollars would think that a couple of dollars will solve my problems is soooooo out of touch.

Obama doesn’t’ even know what to say if he isn’t in front of a TelePrompTer. When left along, he stutters as if he’s trying Clairvoyance to catch the waves of his keepers. Never has there been a less competent candidate.
And his promise of hope without any knowledge of where his new direction is going. He’s a NO ISSUE candidate who preys on the mentally weak.

“He wants you to pay it. Not the oil companies.”
That is a straight lie and Clinton knows it. According to independent factcheck.org as well as numerous experts, it is Clintons (and McCains) plan that will most likely benefit the oil companies, while not helping gas comsumers. In fact, they predict that it might end up increasing them.
On top of being so obviously wrong, does she have to go and lie about her opponent? How low can she go?

I hate to the 109 million dollar lady – $30 bucks in my pocket over a four month period ain’t cuttin it. Saying “our relationship has changed” will not ensure that Pastor Jeremiah Wright, Ayes, Rezko, Meeks, and Farrakhan will not be invited by a President Barack Obama to the White House. Once Sen. Obama clearly states that “I have will not have any relationship“ with these individuals, then Obama will clearly tell Americans that he has broken ties with his friends of 20 years.
Honest American’s don’t need much to wonder about the Senator from Illinois. Each time he talks, it is one lie after another. His most recent slip was today when Obama told the teamsters that if they have a friend in the White House, they could get things done. Sure does not sound like a new type of politician. Same old politician except the Senator from Illinois isn’t honest enough to tell the truth. When I hear Sen. Barack Obama say that he will not have “any relationship” with his mentor and spiritual guide Pastor Jeremiah Wright, Rezko, Farankam, and Ayers, then I will believe that once in the White House he won’t claim forgiveness when Obama has these individuals in the White House.

There is nothing ABC news can do to stop Sen. Clinton from becoming President. About three years ago a well known televangelist, Perry Stone Jr., told his congregation that God spoke to him and said Sen. Clinton will be the next President. This information can be obtained from one of his published works on CD entitled “Strange Patterns of Recent American Presidents.” On track 7 of this CD, he tells us that Sen. Clinton will once again be in the White House. So give it up ABC News. And Barack, your days are numbered.

The problem with the gas tax cut is a lot of that $30 would go to into the pockets of the oil companies and distributors, not the people who need help so you and I do not receive anything near $30. That is but one of the reasons no economists back this idea. Desperately wanting to “do something because people are hurting” leads to more harm than good. A thoughtful candidate would propose sending the $30 (or some other amount) to usd directly so it actually gets to us and not big oil. Oh wait, one candidate did suggest that.
Posted by: ToastOnDayOne | May 5, 2008, 4:14 pm 4:14 pm
The Bo supporters are so short sighted, only thinking of 30 bucks they could get with the gas taxes. They never understood, especially Bo, that is Obama himself, that the tax reduction will help to stimulate the economy, by reducing the costs of transportation, thereby reducing the costs of your food, groceries, clothing, and everything you purchase. This means you will have more money, not just simply the 30 bucks gas dollars you saved, but much more associated with other people’s savings. Therefore, you’d spend more, and the economy will recover sooner.
Either Bo never understood it, which disqualifies him as a pres., or he pretends he does not to deceive people by saying anything to win elections, in which case he should be disqualified by the voters by not giving him a vote.

All the “experts” economists in this country last June, July, August, September 2007 said that the country was not heading toward a recession. Some say we are not in a recession right now and that everything is okay. Why did the “feds” spend billions and billions of our tax dollars to bail out banks and help the stock market then? All of the “experts” said that gas would not climb about $3.00 a gallon last year in September, October and November. Thank you Hillary for trying to bring whatever relief than you can to our country. The “experts” may prefer nothing is done, just more talk and debate, like Obama who is still thinking about how to address his 20 years with his church.

im a conservative so im not taking sides between these two, but if you honestly believe the gas holiday is a solution, you need to take a look at what it is. it will save you maybe 40 dollars this summer. maybe. its a political move to make it seem like she cares, its not any where near a real solution.

Yes it is a band aid, but something to help the people that are hurting right now. Millions are losing their homes to foreclosures and have NO CASH. My sister and her husband have two cars as they commute to work (many Americans are in this same boat). 2 Cars, that fill up once a week at $2.70 savings per fill-up for each car….you do the math they will have about $65.00 more in their pockets than they have right now. What about those that drive trucks that have larger gas tanks….they will have a fortune. It is meant as only a rippling effect to help the down economy and those that are hurting, and there are many. It is not a fix. The fix will have to come by what you say drilling for more oil…however, you know eventually all the oil will be gone…so the real fix seems to be a need for more solar energy on the planet. Sorry if we offend you, but these are the facts.
Posted by: Anne | May 5, 2008, 4:47 pm 4:47 pm
Well then I guess the truckers need to do their homework and stop following someone, aka Hillary, blindly. Sure it sounds good, I guess. But it won’t work and more imporantly it will not happen.
Posted by: lisa | May 5, 2008, 4:52 pm 4:52 pm
Hillary’s argument is valid because she wants to show that she will do what she can to make the oil companiess flip the bill when they are making record profits. Where’s all the outrage against oil company record profits? Oh thats right, some of you just want to hate Hillary. By the way, the Obama supporters were literally discusting audience members at the Jefferson Jackson event.
Posted by: irma | May 5, 2008, 4:53 pm 4:53 pm
see, now that makes a little more sense. if you want to make the case that the gas tax holiday might help the trucking/frieght industry stay alive a few more months, then that makes a little more sense. but to come on here and say “it will let me afford a vacation this summer” or it will “save me 600 dollars in gas this summer” your not being realistic. the average american dosnt consume enough gas for it to be a real solution. and here is the important part: ITS NOT FIXING THE PROBLEM!!! we get fixated on this stuff and we debate just about what they tell us versus actually talking about a real solution. after the summer, we are still screwed. then what shall we do? any good ideas canidates? of course not because you wouldnt want to talk the truth about issues??!! START BY DRILLING IN ALASKA.
Posted by: tim | May 5, 2008, 4:56 pm 4:56 pm
You know that Obama voted for this very tax relief a few years back in Illinois because he studied it and thought it would help. His judgment was wrong then too, I guess. He was positive it was a good thing back then —why is it different this time? Yes they tried it and it didn’t work out like they planned but you know in life we all try things and fail but then we get right back up and try it again, but this time a different way and that is how you succeed in life. You do not succeed by saying let’s don’t do anything because last time we tried it failed. Why did Obama vote for this very tax break just a few years ago?
Posted by: Anne | May 5, 2008, 4:59 pm 4:59 pm
Doing the math doesn’t matter to some people, because they have enough to get them by the crunch times. For working families, two bread winners going to work everyday, chaufering children to school, games and other activities, and those who drive for a living, such as truckers, the stress is much greater. Even to a single person with limited income and living on a tight budget paycheck to paycheck, a little relief could go a long way. Some people have to commute long distances to work everyday. Does it matter? Yes, it certainly matters.
We all know that we need long term solutions for the energy crisis. In bad economic times, does anyone worry about the have nots? At a time when drug companies and oil companies are making huge profits, who is worried about those in poverty or hovering just above it? Not Obama. He just doesn’t get it. He thinks everyone hurting, job wise or otherwise, is just bitter. He should understand bitterness while clinging to his bitter church pastor, while others “cling to their religions and guns”. I believe it’s more than that. People are angry.
Hillary gets it. Obama doesn’t.

Hi d, Selling one’s strengths “Willingness to take on oil companies” and trying to figure out a way to put money in people’s pockets in order to get a vote, is not bad or wrong or ineffective. Her plan does not take from the environmental relief efforts. It gets the record making oil companies to pay for the tax relief to consumers. Although, this effort really doesn’t mean yea or nay to me because I have already decided. By the way, Obama has done the worst pandering. I went to the early rallies in Nevada and here. He, Michelle and his supporters have suggested that the “change” is based on the opportunity to elect a black man. I am half black too and I was really and seriously turned off by their allusions and insinuations. Especially because they were pandeIring to white liberals who want to “Do the Right Thing.” I knew this was a mistake and that it would come back to haunt them in some form. They switched their “change” argument to changing the political, scene shortly after that. However, it was too late because many of us knew that he didn’t have much to run on in regards to his accomplishments for society. I support Hillary because of her past work for people, not for how she made it to where she is. Obama’s personal accomplishments, from an educated, upper middle class family does not impress upon me his ability to do for others. I do know he speaks of it, but there is no real record of it.

Small measures with American at the helm can build inoto large measures. I have every confidence in the American public if aroused and working together that we can fix this problem. Yes, Tim you are correct we should be focused on how to bring down the gas prices and the future use of oil in America. I grew up in a family of scientist and there are many answers but because of the many corporations “big businesses” in America like Ford for example producing cars that only get 17-23 mpg when they should have been producing better efficient cars years ago is the problem. Our time has run out—it is time to take action. Hillary has quite a job ahead of her but you know and this is not racist, so please do not take it that way….men have been in office for every, let’s try a woman. Woman are best at multi-tasking, ask any woman who takes charge of the children, the home and works too. Woman are more nurturing, and caring and she will see that everyone has health care. What better thing for this country. Obama will still leave 16 million people (maybe more) with no health care because he says he is just making it more affordable….his idea and my idea of more affordable and mine is not the same. Paying some 20% and having the insurance companies pay 80% does not work. Hospital bills are so outrageous even for a few days stay that 20% will bankrupt most middle class people, let alone those with less income. Please vote tomorrow anyone in NC or Indiana and vote for America and health care for everyone. Vote Hillary

Anne, thanks for your interesting info on the kind of change we can believe in. O is now explaining what he meant in looking into the Teamsters issues. Sounds a lot like his explanation for double talk on NAFTA. He cannot think fast enough to explain what he meant. It sounds like “change” in positions to me.
Speaking of “change”….I was wondering if the summer relief could help me afford my daily lattes. How many lattes could I buy with the $30.00 savings some people are expecting from the gas tax relief? Just wondering if I can afford them now.

hillary out right lied to the PEOPLE to the face of her followers! then goes on t.v. and laughs about it?
she has been caught talking about things with out knowing if they are true or knowing they arent.. this gas tax thing is just the latest thing- she isnt even sure if its going to work and its been done before BY obama’s state and didnt work.. then she said he doesnt want to do it because he doesnt care about people? no, he tried it – it didnt work why would he or anyone else keep waving it around as a solution?
the thing that i hate the most about clinton is she is a hypocrit to the core! to the core!!! plus she claims all this experience well hate to tell you i live in NY and she yes has done some good but i looked into both records and he has too.. she has also messed up royally alot she has done as senator and first lady … so why is she talking about he doesnt have the experience she has? she is still messing things up with all her ” experience”…

You are the one misrepresenting as your candidate does…
Clinton can not pay for the infrastructure budget with any oil company profits… she can’t pass that before the fall first (Bush will veto and it doesn’t even come close to having enough votes to pass normally never mind with Bush in office)
and it probably won’t pass in any case becasue there are lots of problems with this…
bottom line is even if it got passed in a few years…
this summer won’t see any moneys coming in to pay for this years debt that we have already seen with infrastructure…
You calling Obama supporters misleading is the same as your candidate…
get her out of this race…get her out of this congress for that matter.
…stop misleading the citizens of this country.

I’m a Clinton supporter who believes that Obama would have had a chance had he spent more time in the Senate building a record.
Axelrod’s strategy is failing. He thought it would be easier to create a persona, than defend a substantive record. He sure was wrong.
In the absence of a substantive record, people are free to project all sorts of things on him fairly or unfairly.
Let him go back to the Senate and try to earn the voters respect and trust for a future run.

Obama has had a plan for lowering gas prices. He talks about it at every rally. He’s been discussing it for several months. You folks who don’t know about his thoughts on increasing fuel efficiency, decreasing our dependence on oil, etc… well, you’ve been swindled by this country’s media. Thank them for your ignorance and then pat yourselves on the back for not researching things on your own. I feel sorry for anyone voting for HRC on the basis of a $28 savings over 3 months. You or your friends and family members will be the ones to suffer from the jobs lost and road maintenance problems. Miss Hillary is the one who’s out of touch. She’s made more money in the past 8 years than all of her working class supporters combined. You working class folks… you’re the ones who will suffer if she or McCain become president. I’m off to sip on my latte and pray for you folks!

Saying you care about all Americans is not as convincing as showing you care by actions. Clinton proves she cares even if the liberal dems and most of the republicans in the Senate are going to shoot down any relief efforts for Americans. $70 over a 3 month period will help those in need buy more food or more medicine that they need. It means nothing to Obama and his elite surrogates but it means a lot to most of us who cant make ends meet because the Bush administration and the economists have caused the devaluation of the dollar and a reduction in average income of $1000 per year for middle America. Clinton is right!

wow… some people on here are pretty sad. do you really think that the gasoline companies will pay for these taxes? at the very least, they will hike up the prices and you’ll be paying the same, while you think you’re not paying a tax. you may save a little now, but you will pay dearly later. the more gasoline we buy, the more money the oil companies make –> higher priced gas. as long as we are buying it and dependent on it, they can price it as high as they want. once the demand decreases, they will be forced to lower the price.

Hey Bud, Will you think it’s funny when your candidate loses handily in Indiana, and either ties with Hillary, or wins narrowly in NC? Funny how Karma works, isn’t it?
Nobody has more Karmic debt than Obama. Hillary’s baggage has been analyzed over more than twenty years of her public life. Your candidate has only had his demons revealed in the past two months, and already there are serious doubts about his character, integrity, and judgment.
With friends and “family” like Wright, Ayers, Meeks, Farrakhan, and Rezko, I’d hate to be Obama when the Karmic debt comes due.

Clinton showed she cared and she was right about the healthcare crisis in this country. It’s the liberal dems and the repugs that have blocked progress because it would take money out of their pockets. She has never lost touch with middle America. She has the strongest record of bipartisanship because she knows how to find the middle ground. Now it is time for us to help her reach a level that she can accomplish her common goals for all of us.

Hill is a LIAR, do you hear? A LIAR. There should be rules against lying to the American people for the sake of getting the nomination. I do not want a liar as my president. On the Bosnia issue, she admitted she lied and just shrugged it off. She lied about her debts on her monthly fundraising reports. She’s lying about the gas tax and calling the experienced economists as being elitist. This is just the tip of the iceberg of what this woman and her husband are all about. People, when do you stop being a fool for her? She’s had 8 years in the Whitehouse and 7 years in the Senate to make or initiate the changes she’s talking about. She has done NOTHING! She is a LIAR. Anyone who goes along with her lies needs to question their own motives.

I think Amercians should have to take a basic test before voting, because reading this blog- it is obvious some choose “selective” learning. Not sayin it’s a bad thing for everyday life- but for choosing a leader- I’d say that’s like learning the FCAT.

They just don’t have the analytical ability to see what she is really doing to this country and the people. Just ask yourself–why is she running for president? It’s all about power. She’ll do anything for power. And if she has to LIE to the uneducated who can’t see through her very convincing arguments, she wins. They lose. Americans lose. All you have to do is a search on the net for the Clinton Whitehouse years. When you recall all the drama, anyone with an ounce of sense should be done with her. Gonna do some research? Or just keep talkin’ trash? Do your research. Hillary is unashamedly putting herself before the general public to run for office. She’s bankin’ on the masses not performing any research. Will YOU?

We are a country of mixed americans. We need to start acting like Americans again… people who care enough about each other to take action to eradicate poverty, to turn hopes into reality with actions, to redefine basic human needs as food, shelter, healthcare, and education, and to accomplish it by eliminating the taxes on the middle class and returning to tax rates that are fair for all Americans… Clinton knows how to make it happen… Obama only says he does. With the delapidated housing and poor living conditions for many of his constituents, the lack of charitable work and contributions on his part, the profits and income his wife makes on the backs of the uninsured, and the inability to unite his own church and constitunecies in living American values are but a few reasons why no one should have faith that what he says he can do is true. In fact, if we examine his voting records we will see he has done nothing for the American people but pander.

This is embarrassing…. the amount of hate and inaccurate information within these comments.
I am confused about why people seem to be attacking each other rather than addressing the content of each candidate?
Do your research (clearly some have) about each platform and the context…. seriously, men and women are dying in Iraq and we are kibbling about flag pin debates?
Who can move our country forward? Who has the experience on issues? Who has the judgment to lead? Who is getting the endorsements of people you admire? Compare each candidates records – use votesmart or another nonbiased site.
I hate to sound bossy or patronizing yet it concerns me the lack of independent thought in these posts – if all you are doing is parroting the media, then we can all go home and let them decide. Voting is a privilege and responsibility – do your homework.

Tomorrow morning we will announce that BO now has 1,500,000 contributers who have given an average of $150 each. If we all decide to max out we could raise $3,450,000,000. While $3.5 billion won’t guarantee victory it will help.

The gas tax holiday has been explained by over 200 economists but in hHRC’s true form, she wants it her way or no way at any cost. If you think you are going to be part of any decision-making if she makes it to the Whitehouse, think again. Just like her health care plan of 15 years ago. If she is so great, what has she done in the last 15 years. Trust me, New York doesn’t want her, why would the rest of us.

BO has 80 more supers in line that will come out for him. The Pelosi club will vote for him once he has assured a majority of elected delegates. This will happen in two weeks from tomorrow. We are guaranteed to get at least 50% of the remaining add-ons. Victory is guaranteed. Look for a deal on FL and MI in a couple of weeks when BO has sewed it up. The race is over. This is just being done for practice and to suck in the Reps who have now shown their hand. You are all being played.
BO shall win.

C’mon, once again, Melissa. How about some of Obama’s best lies:
I barely knew Bill Ayers.
I hardly know Tony Rezko.
I have plenty of experience.
I’ve sponsored lots of bills.
I never heard any of Wright’s controversial sermons.
None of my campaign staff ever met with Canadian officials.
Nobody I know talked to the Canadians about NAFTA.
The number of Obama lies are nearly incalculable.

Simple question for Hillary. Why is she still wearing high end designer women’s wear, rather than say…Kohls or Target. Yeah it’s fair. Obama’s been asked about his suits. Time for ‘who are you wearing Hillary.’
And since she’s still on that gas tax holiday, she needs to ask Bill why he’s so silent on it. Oh wait. If he says anything, it’s hypocrisy. More on the Bob Dole position Hillary put herself in… http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/5/5/4595/33889

all these personal insults sure show the passion that voters feel.. unfortunately, we should direct our anger and disgust where it belongs… at the MSM, the Bush administration, and the DNC controlled by the rich elite that doesnt want to help Americans and only wants to talk talk talk in the hopes that we are not smart enough to see through the pandering… we have a nomination process our own party has violated… rise up and be counted but dont let the DNC divide us… if you like Obama state some reasons why you like him or reasons why you dont like Clinton… but please dont fall into the RNC engineered trap of dividing dem voters along identity lines… Karl Rove has been advising Obama publicly since last year and Axelrod and Burton have been following his instructions… let the process play itself out… see you at the DNCC

staniam, you are so wrong. The DNC hates the Clintons. They loved Bill until Monica and then he disgraced the white house and the party. They really don’t want him back and they also know the Clintons are bullies that will stop at nothing to get back into the white house. If that is who you want then fine, but she won’t win.

I do have a problem with him hanging out with Ayers in 1968 I lived in Pa half way between Philly and Trenton NJ the race roits were bad and it was a long hot summer and its to bad we don’t teach more of our own history the Iraq war is not in are face everday not like during Nam when at dinner time and the New s came on Dover Del. would be shown and rows and rows of flag draped coffins in hangers thousands it is something you don’t forget Ayers was a protester that believed in bombing places and killing people.
Posted by: Bishop | May 5, 2008, 8:22 pm 8:22 pm
ayers was against the war in nam. now i have to admit i was no where near even thoought of at this time so if your old enough to remember it im sure you have more info then me on the war. but my grandfather told me stories about what happened and he said we should have never been over in nam , he said that they didnt take prisoners because of orders they shot people on site!
maybe they went to far sure but during those times from what i hear it was all about drugs and protest and the gov did not listen to americans they then went even farther… you can correct me if im wrong because like i said i wasnt alive!
im not saying what he did was right or wrong what im saying is how can you vote for a women who’s husband let out those who were convicted and hold a friendship against another man?
Posted by: MELISSA | May 5, 2008, 8:29 pm 8:29 pm

There was something very strange about Obama today on CNN.
Posted by: Adinah | May 5, 2008, 10:55 pm 10:55 pm
one thing I question is why SC and NV went unpunished by the DNC then it dawned on me after DCVoter’s post… the DNC controlled the order… many states wanted the opportunity to vote early and were tired of IA and NH always being first yet the DNC allowed them to move their dates up more than once to ensure they remained first… then SC and NV went unpunished but MI and FL were punished… if you look back you will see all the polls and pundits expecting Obama wins in IA, NH, SC, and NV… when Obama lost NH and NV he was upset if i remember right and stated he was perplexed at the results… pollsters were embarassed… meanwhile FL and MI had been stripped… why would the DNC do something so stupid?… well it was actually sly on their part… FL and MI at that time were expected to swing red in the GE anyway… the talk had always been that they would get seated after a nominee was selected so they are not left out… seems to me we should all be looking hard at possibilities as to why the schedule was setup the way it was with so many caucus states up front, ie. advantage Obama because the majority of caucus participants are liberal latte and young voters

Hillary’s 109 mln are very touchy and match perfectly with our income: ordinary summary of 10 ordinary families for the entire life.
Still need phony bribe $0.18?
Posted by: Linda, Fl | May 6, 2008, 12:24 am 12:24 am
The truth is not a honey: there is no fast solution for price raise of any product on the market. It is Market. If You want regulations – ask Soviets first, how it was – to stay in line for several hours to get 2 lb bread per household per week.
That what You eager for?
We should save Gas first, not cents: drive less, drive carefully. It is temporary . Greater demand causes price raise. So, let’s slow down a bit.
Posted by: Linda, Fl | May 6, 2008, 12:30 am 12:30 am
tomdavie….I agree with you. Obama is NOT offering any solutions to the high gas prices…he just sits there and makes fun of Hillary…..at least she is trying to get something done to help the American public….but, we have to remember, empty suits with NO substance do the same things that Obama does…thats why he WON’T win the nomination! Go Hillary !

I wonder if the economist dissing this idea are the same ones who say we aren’t in a recession. No one cares what they think. They are are a bunch of rich fat cats who have NO CLUE what it’s like to live middle class. Screw them and their proclamations! I am FINE with the temporary holiday, and FINE with the oil companies paying for it, and also FINE with Hillary’s more robust long term plan.
Posted by: A reader in georgia | May 6, 2008, 4:35 am 4:35 am
Some of you are getting excited over $20 over the course of a summer, without regard to long term effects. Do you have any investments/401K? Making the oil companies pay $9 billion in extra taxes is going to reduce your investments. The inefficient use of tax payer dolars and government resources will cause the dollar to decline further, making gas more expensive in the winter. You don’t like economists because they study these effects? Hillary’s proposal (not Hillary’s, of course, John McCain’s who borrowed it from a number of states who have tried it) is not only an empty promise, it takes us backwards and harms our economy in the long run.

Lately, I saw OBAMA in bars trying to order a BUD on TV. He was pleading like in a court. With his long sleeved-white shirt.
At another shot, he was chairing the bar table with town folks in awe. Everyone was in casual dress. Without his jacket, he is just as formal as the lawyer next door. Sitting at the head table, I want to drink to his losses after that.
It’s so cool that I read the face saying that ‘What do you want from us? No beer, No vote..Ha..Ha.
It’s so funny. Michelle must have never let him lose her sight. He has never been in a bar like that. He just wish he could finish the race and go home; win or lose doesn’t matter to him anymore.
He just goes through the motion; stone-faced ready to give a long speech about a BUD…..Change…We can do it….
Well, you had better ask Mrs. McCain..before saying that. This could be a multi-million dollar lawsuit.
Posted by: John_Lai | May 6, 2008, 7:14 am 7:14 am
A gas tax vacation will not help voters like myself even in the short term. Unfortunately, I understand that shifting the tax burden to the oil companies will simply raise the pretax price of gas. A gas tax vacation will not make my family’s financial outlook any brighter. With rising fuel, food and health care costs, our standard of living is rapidly deteriorating. I miss feeling like a member of the middle class. I live in small town America. And, yes, I am bitter.
Posted by: Living in Rural Upstate NY | May 6, 2008, 8:02 am 8:02 am
I agree, the gas tax savings isn’t that much. But, what impresses me more, is that at least, Mrs. Clinton, is trying to do something in the short term as well as the long term to help out the American public. All Obama can do is refute anything good she tries to do. What amazes me, though, is that Obama voted for the same gas tax relief as a senator in Chicago. Talking about being double-standard! Go Hillary, 08 !

David from tx: You know that Illinois did have a gas tax holiday and analysis showed that is didn’t work. That is why Obama is against it now. To use Obama’s new position based on his experience is not telling the whole truth. It makes me question the validity of any of your arguments.
Posted by: X marks the spot | May 6, 2008, 9:48 am 9:48 am
No one should be allowed to “hoard” commodities that are vital to the general public. This includes “gas” that literaly drives the economy.
An Elitist would not understand what a $40 cash-back means to an ordiary family. Any help is welcome, even if it is only short term.
Hillary Clinton has great long term plans too, for everything. These are the things that Barak Obama lacks. And he does not understand people’s needs.
Posted by: Retrovvision | May 6, 2008, 12:08 pm 12:08 pm
Hillary is not even pandering! When you pander you methods are successful and somewhat detectable but the overall result is a success to say the least. However, her latest shenanigans are just PLAIN STUPID! she has no concept of the REAL economic issues that are causing a possible IMPLOSION. She is saying things to sound like a visonary which she attacked Obama with about empty rhetoric earlier in the campaign.
Posted by: sterling | May 6, 2008, 2:30 pm 2:30 pm
but this saving of 20 dollars to say she is AT least is trying is flawed logic! To me, beginning with phrases..AT Least is not good enough. The true story is that anything she says is hypothetical because she has no real grasp of the economic issues. Im saying it, Warren buffett is saying it, Portfolio magazine is saying it, Karl Rove is saying it. who she worships with all these outdated 2004 campaign tactics. Appearing tough and making bold statements might sound good but unfortunately thats all it is!

By the way. What happened to her Money?
That was fantastic One-day 10mln donation. What was then?
What happened? She claims – she was outspent ( her fault – she could not handle finances) . Now, in jus 2 weeks she asks for more.
Where those Miracle 10mln? Same place as Snipers?
In race money is the way to vote . So we do. And Obama will never claim about being short with money. He sure will have as mucvh as he needs. Cause this is the way we – vote. And he is smart to spend.
Sure , he would not bring this country into debts, as clinton.

to tomdavie: there is only one alternative to “gas Relief” – control on spending. Your personal control.
It is not just a candidate, who has obligations. you , personally have those too.
decreasing spending we will decrease demand, than (and ONLY then) prices will go down. This is the time, when we would not have this “Gas Holiday”. Until after New President will come and act accordingly . Act , but not promise miracle.
So , drive smart and do not listen Phony.
p.s. I am driving 29 miles for my shift. And back , of course. I know what I am talking about.
