Clinton: W. Va. Will Be Turning Point in Race
ABC News’ Eloise Harper reports: Senator Hillary Clinton continued her tour of West Virginia today, arguing Tuesday’s primary election in the state will turn the tide.
“This is going to be a crucial turning point in this election and I want you to know that if you stand up for me tomorrow then I will stand up for you.”
Clinton, who is expected to win the West Virginia primary tomorrow, was introduced by a supporter, local state senator Harry Truman Chafin, who predicted a possible ninety percent victory in the state.
“We’ve got to give her vote tomorrow 80-20 or 90-10 – lets get the national media’s attention!” Truman said. Clinton spokesperson Mo Elleithee quickly tried to lower expectations.
“We appreciate his exuberance, but we expect the race to be much closer than that,” he said.
Clinton provided a small insight as to why she is continuing her bid: “I wouldn’t be doing this if I didn’t believe I could be the best president for West Virginia and America. And that was the stronger candidate to take on John McCain in the fall.”
Speaking about President Bush’s economic policies – Clinton said, “we’ve lost ground under President Bush. He seems to have the idea if you just take care of the rich everything else will just be fine. You’ve heard of that. Trickle-down economics; well, a lot of people feel like they’ve been trickled on for seven years.”
Comparing the current president to her husband she said, “Bill Clinton took care of us – he led us fiscally …and now were back to work our way out of a big ditch.”
Clinton said she was shaking hands with voters in the state and "a man handed me a check and said you keep fighting – this will help you."
During her speech a man from the crowd shouted out “Keep fighting!” and an applause followed the comments.
Clinton said West Virginia picks presidents – but then said the state was also responsible for picking George W. Bush.
“West Virginia in the general election votes for the winner. If West Virginia had voted for our democratic nominee in 2000 and 2004 we wouldn’t have had to put up with George Bush.”

I love the spirit of this campaign, and the spirit of the people in West Virginia! Don’t let anyone pigeon-hole you, West Virginia! Show the Democrat Party and America that you are strong and will not be counted out. Give Hillary a huge vote and you will not be disappointed. Show the rest of the country that wisdom comes in all kinds of states. “Almost heaven, West Virginia……..Mountain Mama” bring us home with Hillary!
VOTE FOR MAMA, NOT FOR OBAMA!

Her race is over, why is she the only one who does not get it? You can not win on the popular votes. If that is so than my vote in Iowa was not counted. She is one crazy woman.

West Virginia does matter! And people wonder why so many people do not like Obama, and will not vote for him. Yes, West Virginia does matter, so does Michigan, so does Florida, and so do all the voters in the states who have not voted. I just love the way Kerry and Kennedy, the news media, and people like Bill Richardson wanted the campaign to stop several states ago. We get it. Some of you certainly do not. What arrogance and elitism!

28 delegates up for grabe in WV and that will make a difference? Hill the Bosnian General get the math right, you are not under snipers’fire in Bosnia, you are in West Virginia in the US. God bless America and God bless Obama. OBAMA08.

John_Lai, I’m not a fanatic and I didn’t drink the kool-aid. I’m just one of the many Democrats choosing between two stellar candidates, whose stances are actually very similar. Clinton supporters who name-call while they criticize Obama supporters for the very same only hurt our chances to elect a Dem in the fall.

Whether or not winning the next few states makes a difference in the Clinton campaign or not – the point is HILLARY IS A FIGHTER – ALL THE WAY. She doesn’t need the DNC any longer, she can win this on her own. Let the DNC nominate and kiss the feet of obama and michelle – LET THEM – See how many of the Clinton voters will support them – about 20 people. The DNC has destroyed itself with its love, support and prejudice with obama. And the DNC can have him and all his followers – good riddance to both.
I hope that Hillary goes Independent – she will have all the Democratic supporters behind her and obama cannot win without them and they aint’ going to him.
Go Hillary – win big – we are still behind you – stay strong and show these wannabees what its all about.

Georgia, the problem is not that Obama doesn’t think all of the states matter. The problem is that Clinton thought that the caucus states and the late voting states would not matter. She thought she would have the nomination wrapped up with the big states and Super Tuesday. She and her campaign miscalculated. Now she is paying the price.

Obama is going to have a lot of trouble winning the general election.

Turning point! lol, where does she think of this stuff? That is like the Patriots going outside with a football talking about the Super Bowl is not over and looking for a turning point.
Her turning point was in Feb. when she wrote off half the country and assumed she could not lose. Hill and Bill have really lost it mentally and from the looks of West Va. there a lot of people equally crazy.
Posted by: chrisc | May 12, 2008, 1:34 pm 1:34 pm
Obama can get all the states that Kerry got and still lose in Nov….he knows that West Va and Kentucky will never vote for him so he’s busy trying to make amends for halting FL and MI revotes…FL will never go for that….
I believe that Obama has a ceiling of support he has reached in the primary. At least 35 or 40% of Hillary’s voters will go McCain…He is in a lot more trouble than he thinks.
Posted by: JA | May 12, 2008, 1:39 pm 1:39 pm
Explain me this Hillary’s supporters, How does she win the general elction without the Obama’s supporters because they ain’t going to her either???!!! So instead of bickering about the hows and the what ifs, Hillary and her supporters should join Obama and his supporters under the Democrats banner to give McCain one good kicking in Nov.

Obama is the nominee.

Obama does not think all states matter: Michigan, Florida, West Virginia, Kentucky et al. He is in a hurry to be crowned king before he stumbles badly again. He won his states primarily because of AA votes, college students, skewed caucuses that intimidate individual voters, biased media that pumped him up at every turn while ridiculing Hillary, and a Democrat primary process that is absolutely ridiculous.
The only miscalculations on Hillary’s part were the unexpected ploy of the Obama campaign in calling the Clintons racist and getting away with it, and fighting the biased media while trying to fight on the issues.
In spite of all that, look where we are. Half of the Democrats do not feel a “tingle run up their legs” when Obama speaks. He is full of rhetoric, weak on substance, and woefully inexperienced. If he is the nominee, he will lose in November. If he is not a strong enough candidate now against McCain, he will not be any better in November. What is he going to do til then, take a crash course in experience?
Obama’s miscalculation?
He did not plan on so many of us being so “bitter”. So, we will just “cling to our guns and our religion” until the Convention. Can’t wait to see how the well-planned Democrat Party process works.

I am from Canada. I remember when this presidential race started and I was interested in Obama. The first thing that came out of his mouth of note was that he wanted to meet the PRESIDENT of Canada. Canada is the USA’s largest trading partner, it has huge oil resources upon which the USA depends and it shares the longest undefended border in the world with the USA. Chicago is only 435 miles from Toronto yet Mr. Obama did not know that Canada’s leader is a Prime Minister and it has been that way for almost 150 years. Rookie mistake? Couple that with the gaffe about 57 states and the 100 million dead in the Burma cyclone and you can see that the emperor has no clothes. The guy is an ignorant idiot who makes George Bush looks almost as smart as, well Hillary Clinton. The rest of the world does not want four more years of an American Idiot.

Why do so many INSIGHTFUL people keep asking why Hillary can’t see it is over and that she is the only one that doesn’t see it.
Excuse me, but my name is not Hillary and I say IT IS FAR FROM OVER.
Peronally, I admire Hillary for her staying power and for FIGHTING for what she believes in. I certainly wouldn’t be supporting a quitter or a wimp.

I am a New Yorker. I apologize for the remarks of our junior senator. I admit to you that I voted for her twice. I will not make that mistake again and will join with others to seek to have her leave office as soon as possible.
Having live in other states I know that the racism that upper class people like the Clintons attribute to the good people of the South and Midwest exists only in their own narrow minds.
I apologize to you. New York owes the rest of the country better.

Why does the DNC feel it can just write off the votes of so many states – West Virginia, Florida, Pennsylvania, Michigan…because they voted for Hillary Clinton? The GOOD OLD BOYS network seems quite alive and well in Kennedy and Obama.

Do you believe that it is stupid to train for the olympics and then just quit 2/3 away from the finish line?
What you are really saying is that the rest of this country that hasn’t voted yet DON’T MATTER. The numbers are extremely close considering all the crap up to this point in the race.
Hillary has stated many times that if she loses she will support Obama, not sure he would do the same.
But what I find to be STUPID are all the ignorant people that believe what they read and hear from the media…we all know how honest and truthful the media have always been. FAIR? NEVER HONEST? NEVER
Politics can be very sickening…

Hillary Democrats who say they will vote for McCain are speaking with their hearts, not their minds.
Hillary does not want you to vote for McCain. Both candidates agreed some time ago to support the other if they won. Their supporters should follow suit.
A vote for McCain is a vote to continue the same Bush policies that Hillary has railed against for the last year. An Obama president would be infinitely more like a Hillary president than McCain would be.
This business about voting for the GOP looks like irrational posturing, sour grapes, or worse. It seems hypocritical to vote for Hillary then McCain… Someone, PLEASE tell me what policy views you liked in Hillary that you find in McCain????

From what I can gather. Hillary will win in West Virginia tomorrow easily, followed by Kentucky, by a decent margine, as well as Puerto Rico, with South Dakota favouring Hillary and Oragon and Montana possibly up for grabs, but I’ve a feeling they too favour Hillary. Which leaves a dead heat, yet again, with BO very slightly ahead on the delegate count. That doesn’t include FL & MI, won by Hillary, which DNC wont count, which is pathetic ! These people have rights that Dean and his biased buddies are negating and dont go on about Obama not being on the ticket in MI, because it was his choice! As everyone knows, including those votes completly changes things. throughout the campaign, the media have wanted to seem politically correct that BO has got away with playing the race card time and time again, and the truth is being ignored! Like his funding coming from very dubious sauces, like Auchi and the connections with Rezko and his crooked dealings. I want to know why he is not questioned, when there is so much evidence to prove he is not worthy of being a candidate. It is obvious that the republicans will have a great time slinging mud, and it will stick! Which makes Obama unelectable, he cannot win a GE!!! But Hillary can, because she is the only candidate fully qualified, with solutions to put America back on it’s feet! The race will come down to super delegates, who can and will change their minds right up to the point of voting! It could even go for a second vote at congress. But at the end of the day, Hillary is the best candidate for the job and I wish her the best of luck!

Hey, the Palestinian terrorist organization, Hamas (a.k.a. the Islamic Resistance Movement) wants the big O to be president. The charter of Hamas is to destroy Israel, and thus, it’s responsible for multiple bombings and terrorist attacks. Hamas is banned by virtually every nation in the free world, but they love Obama.
Obama’s Middle East policy advisor, Robert Malley, has been meeting with and negotiating with Hamas for decades. Always conscious of his voter appeal, Obama just sacked Malley from the campaign because the media found out about his meetings with Hamas.
Even Rev. Wright loves Hamas. Last July 22nd, Rev. Wright’s church (TUCC) published a Hamas terror manifesto in the church’s weekly bulletin. In fact, Wright compared the Hamas manifesto (originally entitled: Hamas Stand), to our U.S. Declaration of Independence.
Not to be outdone, Michelle Obama loves Hamas even more. The Obama campaign removed a page from it’s official website that was managed by a Hamas fundraiser, Hatem El-Hady. The page listed Michelle as a friend to the terrorist fundraising efforts.
The media, the DNC, and the “latte” left should just be so proud of their choice for presidential nominee, but even if they aren’t, what really matters is that Michelle is proud.

I more than think Emily is wrong, I know it. The United Church of Christ is not Wright’s Church.
Wright Church is but one in the larger group of the United Church’s of Christ and one of the very few that happens to be a majority black congregation.
The United Church of Christ is about tolerance and acceptance of ALL Gods children, not hate and the writings of Hamas would not be a UCC publication.
Trinity may have done it, Wright may have done it, or and this I find very likely Emily is happily repeating a partial lie to satisfy a need to hurt others.
Emily God can forgive you, but you need to find the cause of your need to do these things and try and stop.

Considering the mainstream media has done nothing but do their best to give Hillary a bad time, the lady is doing good! Especially as Dean has let his personal fight and petty feelings of the Clinton’s affect his judgement…smacks of total unprofessionalism to me!
Everyone knows that Hillary will win most, if not all, of the remaining states, she will call for FL & MI to be acknowledged and make a clear case of being the most electable, with the ability to win and become the next President! So come on Super delegates, ignore the negative bias of the press and DNC, Obama has too many corrupt connections and cannot be trusted!

I am a citizen of the world. I am not American and reside in a developing country which has always been a friend to the United States.I have been keenly following the Democratic nomination process. It is very dissapointing to see that it seems as if though the American electorate is more concerned about personal attacks and mudsling than substantive issues which are pertinent to the economic and political wellbeing of the US and the world at large.
As an American voter you have been bestowed a privillage and honour of electing the leader of the world. The choices that you make will determine the kind of world that we ALL live in. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE take this responsibility seriously. The whole world is watching you.
You aught to be focussing on who would be the best president to:
1)Turn around the US and world economy. The more prosperity there is in the world, the more the US stands to benefit.
2)Rescue the Dollar from its downward spiral before it reaches a point where it makes better economic sense for countries to abandon it in favour of more stable and reliable currencies.
3)Stop the growing global reputation of the US as a bully who misues her status to force and coerce others to get what it wants whith out sparing a thought to the long term damage that is being done.
4)Arrest the growth of global terrorism and religious intollerence.
WITH GREAT POWER COMES …….
If you do not exercise your power wisley, you will only have your selves to blame when the US ceases to be the center of attention and affection. History is littered with lessons such as what happend to the Roman,Greek and British empires.

It is sad, isn’t it? Obama will be clocked today in WV and the media will downplay it. I don’t thing CNN’s “election center” is going to put a 4 hour Obamathon on TV tonight since they’d be forced to acknowledge Hillary’s win. It’s not close enough to spin Hillary’s win as a loss.. as they have in IN and PA.

LeeLee07, thank you for speaking to the realities of life. So many people have had to struggle in life. Those born in poverty who have been unable to get out of poverty due to lack of education or some meaningful job have the right to speak of solutions and vote for the right leadership. It is not just the color of skin that has held some people down, it is a life in poverty without educational or job opportunities. Hillary fully understands that. She is the candidate who will work for early and pre-K education, more affordable college loans, healthcare for everyone, and creation of jobs in this country. She gets it and so do we. Thank you for speaking to the realities.
RISE, HILLARY, RISE!
