Obama Eyeing Spot on Mount Rushmore?
ABC News’ Sunlen Miller reports: Sen. Barack Obama’s tight schedule and fierce regimen doesn’t afford many opportunities to be spontaneous.
But the presidential candidate broke his schedule when the press corps following him took a trip to Mount Rushmore Friday night.
After a day of campaigning in Montana, Obama returned to his hotel room in Keystone, S.D., to sleep. Upon being informed by his communications director that the press corps was making a stop at nearby Mt. Rushmore, the senator decided to tag along in the unscheduled outing.
Half past 10 p.m., a time when Obama is normally retiring to bed, he instead trudged to see the national landmark under a full set of stars.
"There’s something about seeing it at night that’s spectacular," Obama said on his first visit to the site.
Obama was asked if he’d like to see his face on the mountain with Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and Roosevelt.
"I dont think my ears would fit," Obama said, laughing. "There’s only so much rock up there."
Obama’s visit followed Sen. Hillary Clinton’s trip to the landmark on Wednesday.

Of course he had to make a trip to Mt. Rushmore…
He couldn’t stand the idea that Hillary went there a couple of days ago and got a lot of publicity shots for it, even if she didn’t speak to the media, he ALWAYS has to follow Hillary’s lead.
He is just a phony, copy-cat with no true ideas of his own.

Jan, has Obama ever made a unity speech at Trinity? Of course not. They’re too busy getting guest speaks like Pfluger.
Obama needs to fix his own backyard till he starts in the big leagues.

Obama runs on the themes of hope, unity and cleaning up DC.
Yet he comes from the most divisive church, has the most divisive friends and comes from a political Chicago cesspool that makes DC look spick and span.
One word comes to mind. Fraud! Oh wait, make that two more words. President McCain.

If the women of this country choose not to vote for Obama or vote for McCain they will have proved that they are not capable leading this country. Electing McCain will screw over a lot of good people including all those destined to die in Iraq. Use your brain!

Have you seen the latest Rasmussen Tracking Polls?
Hillary is now viewed favorably by 47% of Democrats, while Obama is only viewed favorably by 45%.
Obama had led in this category for months, what happened?
Posted by: SandyB | May 31, 2008, 7:59 am 7:59 am
SandyB,
What happened is all of the ladies who are screaming like you.
Who have hardened their views and decided if Hillary is not the nominee then they will vote for McCain.
That’s what happened. I asked you before if you are a democrat because there are some REAL differences in what we believe in and what the Republicans believe.
Posted by: Jan | May 31, 2008, 8:03 am 8:03 am
Okay SandyB,
I hear you.
One more thing WE (women) are not a minority. We have great power… that is part of what we see in the polls.
My concern is how we (Democratic Women) use our power. I don’t want us to give it up to the Republicans and you can trust that all the LOVE they have been showing Sen. Clinton has something to do with dividing Democrats so that the Republican can win.
That is the bottom line. That’s also a part of what was done to the Democrats by the Republican led legislature in Florida and why they are in the mess of unseated delegates.
Okay… that’s enough of this for today… I’ve got to clean my house!
:0)

I have been a Democrat since the day I first registered to vote many years ago.
Even during the Reagan years, I never once voted Republican like so many other Democrats were doing.
I am just of the opinion that Hillary has a better chance against McCain. I have felt this way since the beginning of the primary season, and I have yet to see any reason to change that OPINION.
It is my understanding that the DNC and the superdelegates are in the position they are in for that precise reason: to put the most electable candidate on the ballot in November, in case the will of the people failed to do this. It failed to do this in 1972; 1980; 1984; 1988; and 2004 (I won’t even touch 2000, to this day, no one knows who really won that one, as it was decided in the U.S. Supreme Court).
It is my further OPINION that this a year that this possibility needs to be considered, as those who do not LEARN from HISTORY, are only destined to REPEAT it.
Like I said, I have no idea at this time who I will vote for in November.

I also noticed that Hillary is now getting beat by McCain by 3%. (Exact same margin as Obama)
What happened to her “overwhelming electability” argument?

Obama will be our president someday. He’s just not ready yet. I think that he should sit out for another 8 to 16 years to build up his experience. He has stumbled a few times that make him look like an amateur.
John McCain is the most experienced and ready person in this race to take over the presidency. He’ll eat Obama alive on experience and international know how.
Obama needs more practice.

Yes, but I think it’s the first time his favorability rating has fallen BENEATH her, and that was the point I am making.
The poll you refer to is for the Democratic nomination, where everyone has already annointed Obama. In a head-to-head with McCain, Hillary ties, and Obama is down by 3.

I am a Hillary Supporter and like a whole lot of other Hillary Supporters, we are not now going to “Unite” with Obama Supporters, (after reading and listening to their rhetoric all these months) and help vote the Empty Suit in. Barack Obama will ever see their

In Bill’s case you don’t memorialize
someone who lied under oath(regardless
of the crime) and neither Hillary nor
Obama will be elected president!
But don’t cry any tears for them!
Bill and Barack will make lots of money

How obsurd!!
This clown hasn’t even held the job as President, and he wants to be on Mt Rushmore! Truely pathetic!!
What has his record of US Senator been like? “Present”. Nice. Now all of a sudden he is the golden boy, the messiah, Christ himself with the ‘other half’ of us dems. The Obamabats, if you will. Completely batty of this horrible person of a pure hatred and racism towards whites!
There is no way that Obama will ever be on Mt. Rushmore. Not now, not ever! That is reserved for Presidents of the United States of America. Not wannabe presidents of Utopia!
Atleast he knows that his dumbo ears wouldn’t fit!

You can spare me the fear mongering that you people are already starting! Your pathetic attempts to scare us that McCain is this far rightwing extremist!
ROTFL!! He is not liked in his own party and viewed too liberal!!!
His ‘website’ is a joke. It is all B.S. put up to get his own party behind him!
John McCain is only a fiscal conservative! That is the extent of his conservative ways.

I won’t have to hold my nose all that hard. He is not the extremist that the Obamabats are trying to paint him as to scare us to stay with the party! I know McCain and I won’t buy their crap!

Why are Hillary supporters so unrealistic. Also, the Hillary or mc-more-war people are really closet republicans that probably voted for bush/cheney twice. These are the ones that need to sit out this election because that lack common sense. Obama 2008!!!

@Krissy – The more that comes out about Obama, the better McCain looks. lol.
I cannot believe the DNC is pushing this unqualified racist to be POTUS. The Republicans must be laughing their butts off.
In a year when Democrats just about had this election sewn up, Oprah and the DNC presents us with an Empty Suit and tell us to vote for it. How much kool-aid did they drink?? No way is he electable. Thank God, most of America realizes this and will refuse to let Obama and his henchmen anywhere near the WH.

PFEGER’S…
first of all, thats not what i asked. i asked a question to those who support the democratic party, but as a typical liberal would do, you answered a question with another question just to avoid it. but ill answer it i guess. first off, i said above i dont LOVE what the republican party has done. you would have to be absent minded to say you love the decisions ANY party has made. but you have to read between the lines a little. and im not going to get into a long winded answer about the war, but basically its simple… we were attacked by idiot extremists. we went to war with them. now, if you want to question HOW the war was, and is being handled , that is another thing. but the war HAS TO BE FOUGHT. going into iraq was to keep the central fight over there. you have to read between the lines. every president has lied and mislead the american people. thats just the way it is. i havent supporeted the way the war has been fought since we got into iraq. we should have just leveled it, sent a message and ended it days later. thats it. but, like i said im not going to explain all of my thoughts on it here and now. but i would still like an answer to the original question i asked. im in the mood for a good laugh today… sport. oh and by the way, the government has spent more money thatn it has taken in for 31 out of the last 35 years. the economy problem is ALOT larger than george w. bush. dont even get me started on that.

Let us talk about Trinity/Wright:
People familiar with the church compare its emphasis on African culture to the way some Catholic churches play up Irish or Italian roots. People who know about the church reject the accusations that the church is separatist or turns away white members.
An actual member who is white tells the story of a group of young Germans visiting the church. Wright met with them before the service and prayed with them in German, she said. Later, he delivered part of his sermon in German and the choir sang in German.
“To me, it’s a testimony that this is not a church that rejects people of other cultures and races,” she said.

“going into iraq was to keep the central fight over there. you have to read between the lines. ”
How stupid. Iraq was contained. The fight was in Afghanistan/Pakistan! Al-Qaeda and Iran were contained by Sadam. Al-Qaeda was not in Iraq under Sadam. His people were certainly doing no worse under this hellish situation.
We went to Iraq to control its oil and to ease pressure on Israel due to Sadam’s support of the suicide/homicide bombers. He was somehow painted as a leader of that. He did not like Israel but he was in a box.
This stupid war allowed Al-qaeda to expand. Iran to gain more influence.
The costs was billions of dollars. 80,000 injuries to US troops. Hellish conditions for Iraqis. Not to mention the huge waste–extra demand for petroleum to run this effort. Imagine if that oil/gas/aviation fuel was released for domestic consumption how much gas prices would decline.
Iraq was a war that was conducted out of sheer ignorance.

pflegers…
first of all, my question was simple. and it is worth hearing the answer. democrats, as well as republicans, need to be held accountable for their actions!!! that is why im asking the question. first of all, they knew full well that the delegates were not going to be counted if they did what they did!!!!!! and they did it anyway. that was the problem. they turned their back on millions of voters and nobody gave a damn. until, now. so now there going to “fix” the problem, and change the rules halfway through the game??!! are you kidding me??!! if i was a democrat, not just from fla. or mich., i would be absolutely outraged. again, by saying this, im not saying that i have never been outraged by what republicans have done. i dont claim to be a republican. i am a conservative. therefore i have alot more in common with republicans. i dont play the partisan game. i vote for whoever holds my values. that being said, why are more democrats not outraged by this? they are spending more time being worried about how to fix the problwm versus the SOURCE of the problem. i ask that simple question because it is worth being answered. and you did what democrats ALWAYS do: you avoided the question, the big picture and you spun it around right back at me by asking me a totally differnt question on another subject. its one of the biggest problems we have with our government in our time. no one is held accountable. and the mcsame thing is not going to work by the way. im sick of hearing that it will be a “third term” for bush. im not saying mccain is the guy i want to vote for. he has some bird brain ideas and views on some very important issues. on immigration he may as well be another democrat. he is pro amnesty(which is a joke). also, he either is totally falling for the global warming fraud, or he feels he needs to lean that way to get independents to vote for him. not sure on that one. i mean the facts are there. mccain isnt stupid. global warming is simply not an issue. just like the democrats have accused bush as “fear mongering”, well thats exactly what the crazy left and most democrats are doing with global warming. anyways, mccain is not my ideal choice, but i believe 100 percent he will get us out of iraq with some sort of dignity and finality. he isnt going to just pull out like these two idiots want to do. the damage that will be done by simply pulling out would be worse than making the decision to go there in the first place.

Hey, to you folks out there, I’m relatively new to this site. The few times when I visited before, I read some pretty interesting comments. The information had thought behind it. I was also impressed by some people’s comments, the ones who could actually write and were able to voice their opinions in a decent manner. This infantile stuff that you all are trying to address, & comment about is ludicrous!{Outrageous, for those of you who don’t know what the word means} You are bickering like kids at recess.”Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, my president, no my president…” You sound like a bunch of silly willies! NOTE:To the person who is shouting “Rise Hillary Rise what school did you go to? I know it was only ONE?! Run-on sentences, no commas, no apostrophies, no periods, nothing! That’s right, vote for Hilary, maybe you all can learn together.Maybe, she’ll be able to teach you something. All the time you spend on this site is good, but you need to take some time and ..”learn your lessons”, like the old folks used to say. Then come back and try again. ACEHEART

I have noticed a lot of Clinton supporters sayin the Obama supporters are rude etc, while reading thru these post I can say the same is true of the Clinton supporters and I will say at least none of the Obama supporters are saying they will vote for McCain to spite themselves. That just does not make any sense. In fact while reading many of the political bloggs I have come across the same thing
Posted by: jojobo1 | June 1, 2008, 11:34 am 11:34 am
This is appalling. Anyone attacking Obama for “wanting to be on Mount Rushmore” blatantly did not read the article, which merely documents his visit to Mount Rushmore and his brushing off of the question would he want to be on it. Freda and jojobo1 are right–anyone who thinks McCain is more similar to Clinton than Obama is is clearly cutting off his nose to spite his face. I’d also like to add that I find it very offensive when people describe Obama as racist, especially considering the fact that he is fifty percent white and was raised by his white grandmother.
