Obama Looks Ahead to the General Election
ABC News’ Sunlen Miller reports: Sen. Barack Obama will campaign in Missouri, Florida and Michigan over the next few weeks — another sign that his campaign is already executing a general election strategy.
On Tuesday while voters in West Virginia are heading to the polls, Obama will be campaigning in Missouri, a state which held its primary on February 5th.
While polls are closing Obama will fly then to Michigan in advance of campaign events in the state on Wednesday. Next week Obama heads to Florida to fundraise, marking Obama’s first visit to each of the two states since singing a pledge to not campaign there in the primary due the states violation of party rules.
At a press conference on Saturday in Bend, Oregon Obama spoke to the shift towards a general election, “We’re not going to have a lot of time to pivot. And John McCain’s been getting a free pass.”
With six remaining contests on the Democratic side, the campaign is taking on two races at once. He will be campaigning in the yet to vote Democratic primary states of Oregon, South Dakota and Montana later this week in addition.
Campaign manager, David Plouffe, in an email to supporters signaled the shift that the campaign is making, “Senator Clinton intends to compete vigorously in the remaining contests; at the same time we face increasing attacks from Senator McCain and the Republican attack machine.”
Obama spokeswoman Jen Psaki said that the schedule is strategic, “Our schedule reflects the fact that we are still fighting for votes and delegates in the remaining contests but also that we are going to places that are going to be competitive in the fall.”
Obama spends his day today in West Virginia, only his second visit to the state that Clinton is anticipated to handily win.

Good to see alot more Americans are waking up and seeing thru Hillary’s lies!Hillary and McCain go hand in hand, lets start from the begining;Hillary voted for the War In Iraq, but after she decided to run for Office, now she says, she is against the War..Hillary’s Dad was a Republican so you think that makes her a Democratic, it should be No! Hillary praised McCain on National T.V., if she recieved the Nomination, wouldnt she be running against McCain, then why praise him.Because she dont care if McCain or her Win.Could she be a undercover Republican? She didnt want to release her Tax-Info for months. NAFTA, Bill was for it, do you really believe then Hillary is against it? I think not!Hillary just days ago was taking shots of Whisky on the News, what kinda message is she sending our kids? Hillary has lied time and time again during this race for the Democratic Nominee. Hillary doesnt sound like a change to me! Vote Obama lets bring a Real Change to America.
YES WE CAN

Change is right (YES WE CAN) It will definitely be a change to have an affirmative action nominee. One who does not know how many states there are in this country? He said he had been to 57 and had one more to go 58? It certainly will be different having a potential candidate who has been indoctrinated in hate speech and racism in Rev Wright’s church for 20 Years.

It is a good thing Obama is starting early, 57 states and not a moment to lose!
JUST the GE. He will never win the GE!
A pock on him and his phony campaign.

Mrs. Clinton will not quit until she has destroyed Obama’s chances this November. Watch as she now stirs the racist pot, in W. Virginia and elsewhere, repeating that it is impossible for a black man to win white Americans’ votes. Instead of appealing to the country’s better angels and working for the historical importance for us as a nation to turn the page toward a more perfect union, Hillary is demonizing the entire nation and smearing all of us, especially white Americans, by saying that white Americans will not vote for a black candidate. This is a blatant lie, as proven in Obama’s victories in Iowa, Wisconsin, and all across the nation. It is way beyond time for the Democratic Party elders to STOP this madness before she destroys the party, the republic and all our best hopes for the future. No deluded, vicious, power-crazed politician should be given a free pass, even if her name is Clinton and she believes she is entitled to dynastic keys to the White House.

Hillary and Mccain make sense! they are lobbyist wet dreams. nothing ever would change , It would be the same ole same ole back room dealings. And the Citizens end up being the laughing stock.
This Hillary/ McCain buddy tour should clue the American people that this is bigger than party lines.
The though of Barack going in and cleaning up all the backroom dealings and kicking out the lobbyist frightens these career politicians along with others.
I know the American voters vote for Bush twice, Do we have faith they can spot this.

Good people who want to save this country from the likes of an arrogant self proclaimed messiah. All obama has ever manged to do was create a cult like following – he is the piped piper and his followers are like lemmings – except they are very scary – who knows what he will command them to do.

How can Obama directly campaign in FL and MI when the issue of a revote, etc. has not been resolved by the states? I am really disgusted by his behavior, arrogance and utter disregard for how the game is played.

Barack obama was at a fund raiser on South Beach, Miami last year just before the Fla contest so I dont know why the media is reporting that he’s making his first trip here. As everybody knows he lost fla ( yes, his name was on the ballot). Florida is Hillary country so he should reconsider coming here. He’s not even the nominee.

WAIT A MINUTE! All of the 57 states have not yet voted! Do his visits to Michigan and Florida mean that he now agrees to a revote for those voters? Does it have to be a caucus? Aw, shucks! For a minute there, I thought Michigan and Florida votes were going to be counted.
What audacity the bowling, hoop-shooting fool really has. Will the Michigan visit be at one of the big colleges in Michigan? Poor Obama, he is having to fight on all fronts: McCain, Hillary, and six remaining contests on the Democratic side. I thought he was already crowned. Maybe, we should wait until Barr gets the Liberterian crown and add another front for him. He is so tough, and we haven’t seen anything, yet.

HILLARY CLINTON CAN BEST WIN IN NOVEMBER:
IT’S ABOUT ELECTABILITY !!!
It’s time for everyone to face the truth. Barack Obama has no real chance of winning the national election in November at this time. His crushing defeat in Pennsylvania, and loss in Indiana makes that fact crystal clear. His best, and only real chance of winning in November is on a ticket with Hillary Clinton as her VP.
Sen. Obama has zero chance of winning against the republican attack machine, and their unlimited money, and resources without Hillary Clinton. Zero chance.
It is absolutely essential that the democrats take back the Whitehouse in November. America, and the American people are in a very desperate condition now. And the whole World has been doing all that they can to help keep us propped up.
Hillary Clinton say’s that the heat, and decisions in the Whitehouse are much tougher than the ones on the campaign trail. But I think Sen. Obama faces a test of whether he has what it takes to be a commander and chief by facing the difficult facts, and the truth before him. And by doing what is best for the American people by dropping out of the race, and offering his whole hearted assistance to Hillary Clinton to help her take back the Whitehouse for the American people, and the World.
Sen. Obama is a great speaker. And I am confident he can explain to the American people the need, and wisdom of such a personal sacrifice for them. It should be clear to everyone by now that Hillary Clinton is fighting her heart out for the American people. She has known for a long time that Sen. Obama can not win this November. You have to remember that the Clinton’s have won the Whitehouse twice before. They know what it takes.
If Sen. Obama fails his test of commander and chief we can only hope that Hillary Clinton can continue her heroic fight for the American people. And that she prevails. She will need all the continual support and help we can give her. She may fight like a superhuman. But she is only human.
Don’t be fooled by the pledged delegate, and math arguments. Neither candidate has the necessary pledged delegates. The entire delegates counts, and votes from Florida, and Michigan are not even being counted. Plus the democratic caucuses, and primarys have been heavily corrupted by fraud, and vote cheating. The only relevant question now is who can best WIN IN NOVEMBER and take back the Whitehouse for the American people. And the answer is HILLARY CLINTON. Everyone knows that now.
Sincerely
Jacksmith… Working Class :-)
p.s. I have been under heavy attacks for some time now. But it wont stop me. :-)

You just have to love that Obama…up until this moment he and his campaign have refused to speak with the Democratic Leadership of Michigan over the revote issue. Not a single Democrat in any high position in that state has even heard from the guy. All of a sudden he is going to campaign there???????
You Obama lovers out there…what do you make of your silver tongued Messiah now? Typical politican? Quick “CHANGE” artist? OR is he still your light in shining armour?

He likes that word “pivot”, a basketball word he is familiar with. What he is not familiar with are the people who make up a large base of the Democrat Party who do not want him as President. So, he refers to Pennsylvanians as “bitter” while they cling to their guns and their religions. I guess now that same attitude applies to people in West Virginia and Kentucky. Does he plan to go to Michigan and Florida to pour some soothing oil on their bitterness, then come back to West Virginia and Kentucky and do the same for them before the General Election? Alas, it most likely is too late. He cannot “pivot” fast enough or often enough. Once “bitter”, we stay that way a long time.

McCain changes like the weather “am I a conservative, wait, no I hate the conservatives” “Am I pro or anti-abortion”. My best friends in the Senate is an independant(in name only, he is a demo in indy clothing. Hardly going to go over well with the conservatives.
And last but not least “I’m 72 years old”. I can’t wait until you see Obama and McCain face to face. McCain will look like he’s from the late Triassic period.

The media must really love to make a fool of Obama in the eyes of intelligent people, he has not attained the numbers to be the democrat nominee but they are willing to print that he is campaign in Missouri, Florida and Michigan over the next few weeks — another sign that his campaign is already executing a general election strategy.
Now that is a laugh, now why leave it at that why does the media not tell us who the invitees, the food and that band that will be playing at the presidential inauguration, they can also add a few hints on what color scheme Michell will be going with for drapery choice for the WH.
The media is really ridiculous at times and to think this is what is passed off as good journalism.

Sen. Clinton is ahead by 43 points in WV! She’s up by 30 points in Nebraska! Florida and Michigan is still unresolved! Sen. Obama has not one single major battle-ground state, like Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Florida, Texas, New York, California, New Jersey, Massachusetts and so on and on.
Consider for a moment which Democratic candidate is more electable?
Look at how the Electoral College stands as of May 08, Clinton vs. Obama.
This assumes a winner-take-all Electoral votes for each state. Florida and Michigan is not included.
Clinton 261
Obama 181
But with Florida and Michigan:
Clinton 305
Obama 181
With Clinton winning Indiana, West Virginia, Kentucky, and Obama winning North Carolina, South Dakota, Oregon (which is too close to call at this time, and Montana, would then be, even without Florida and Michigan:
Clinton 285
Obama 209
Even if you give Indiana, to Obama, the totals would be, still without Florida and Michigan:
Clinton 274
Obama 220
We all know it takes 270 Electoral College votes to win the General Election.
This shows which of the Democratic candidates is stronger in the General Election.
Therefore if Sen. Obama is the Democratic nominee, it would be a big mistake! I am sure the Republicans are going to make Rev. Wright his running-mate in the fall. Having manipulated the caucuses with small groups of zealots, but now not in play for the presidential election, Mr. Obama is going to find himself stuck! Sen. Clinton would make a much stonger candidate to face Republican John McCain in the general election. Sen. Obama is too weak to win the presidency for Democrats!
Posted by: EPICTETUS | May 12, 2008, 6:56 pm 6:56 pm
You Clinton people say what you want. He played fair and square and he won.
If thing you say were true then why have primaries? Just give it to Hillary and be done with it.
Too bad does not work that way.

EPICTETUS, Anderson Cooper said tonite that if Hillary wins West Virginia by more than 20% and Kentucky by more than 15%, then this will make the SuperD’s very nervous. They know that Clinton will win the Electoral vote. It seems that Obama is imploding, while thinking he’s got the nomination.

Islamic Resistance Movement) wants the big O to be president. The charter of Hamas is to destroy Israel, and thus, it’s responsible for multiple bombings and terrorist attacks. Hamas is banned by virtually every nation in the free world, but they love Obama.
Obama’s Middle East policy advisor, Robert Malley, has been meeting with and negotiating with Hamas for decades. Always conscious of his voter appeal, Obama just sacked Malley from the campaign because the media found out about his meetings with Hamas.
Even Rev. Wright loves Hamas. Last July 22nd, Rev. Wright’s church (TUCC) published a Hamas terror manifesto in the church’s weekly bulletin. In fact, Wright compared the Hamas manifesto (originally entitled: Hamas Stand), to our U.S. Declaration of Independence.
Not to be outdone, Michelle Obama loves Hamas even more. The Obama campaign removed a page from it’s official website that was managed by a Hamas fundraiser, Hatem El-Hady. The page listed Michelle as a friend to the terrorist fundraising efforts.
The media, the DNC, and the “latte” left should just be so proud of their choice for presidential nominee, but even if they aren’t, what really matters is that Michelle is proud.

Yes, the USA voters are so lucky that the most corrupt politician in 100 years maybe moving into the White House in January. Unfortunately, polls indicate that he is gonna be sent back to his crime-ridden South Chicago area–Oh, well, he has a 20 ft fence around his mansion to keep the nice citizens from visiting in the middle if the night. Maybe he and Rezko and Ayers and Sinclair can have a cook-out/beer party to celebrate his homecoming.
This politician has the audacity to declare his victory before all the people have voted in the primaries and the superdelegates have been bought by the highest bidder. Dirty campaign, dirty politics. He is a socialist. He is a Marxist. He is not a statesman. It is indeed sad for America.

If Clinton is so great and so experienced, how come she is losing in every facet. Money, campain strategy, votes, it seems like Obama has exhibited better preparation and skills at every challenge. The quesion is why didn’t she close the deal in the first place. She had the Clinton name, political connections, her team dropped the ball plane and simple. I was a Clinton supporter and she has shown a reckless disregard for civility. She agreed to the Florida and Michigan rules and now she wants to change them because she is losing. Pathetic, she only cares about herself. I wish there was an option of none of the above for the rest of the candidates.

It was posted that 270 electoral college votes were needed to win the Presidency. Was that before Senator Baraack Obama added another 5 (five) states to our Union making it a total of 57, not 50. Did that change the number of ECVs necessary? And when will these five new states’ primaries be held. I am totally confused.

Of course Obama wants to look ahead to November. He is going to get whipped in the remaining states. He doesn’t have a large black voting base that will vote for him because he is black, like last week.
The voters in these remaining states are going to vote for the person, not the color/sex. Obama doesn’t stand a chance.
KEEP THE CHANGE

Why should he campaign in Michigan and Florida while doesn’t want to hear the voice of the voters in those states in the primary, even oppose the revote? It is a typical power hungry man who cares only for the benefit of himself.

OBAMA is a chicken and a duck.
He has no gut to stand up for himself when he goes to state like Virginia. He is virtually writing it off on his map. To him American is made up of 40 states or less that he would campaign. With a 60% win, he would still loss.
However, in his nightmare he wants 57 states to secure his nomination.
Hillary is the one who can take a challenge. North Carolina has 30% of population who is black. In a democratic primary, this means 30% to 60% of the votes. 92% go to OBAMA. Still Hillary fights odds for every vote. In contrast, OBAMA virtually writes off the state from his electorate map now and in November.
The communist party is a party with biased views and unfair practices against the old, handicapped, the working class
and most of the mature-minded patriots.
If there is no caucases, and the system is just like the general election, Hillary is the run away winner now. So the system is for the cowardly candidate rather than the strong one.
Before the election in November, McCain has already gained many states on OBAMA. BO’s campaign can’t get pass the general election.

If Obama want the votes of Florida and Michigan in general election, he must respect the voices of the voters in those states by counting all votes from the primary.
