Closing Arguments: Can He Win It?

No, we don’t mean Barack Obama.  We don’t mean John McCain.  We mean the horse Big Brown. He won the Kentucky Derby and he won the Preakness. Will he win tomorrow’s Belmont Stakes? It would make him the first Triple Crown champion in 30 years. Do you think he can do it?

Most definitely Big Brown will win, the money goes as so;
If Big Brown wins the Triple Crown, then Obama will win his Crown for the White House!

Watching Big Brown race reminds me of Secretariat’s Triple Crown wins. He just goes out and dominates the race. I don’t think there’s a question of whether or not he can win the Belmont Stakes, just about how many lengths.

Based on how he performed in the Derby & Preakness there is no doubt Big Brown has to ability to win at Belmont. Should he win and the win is by at least as many lengths as either of the 2 previous races he should be considered a very good horse who deserved to win the Triple Crown. He is not Secretariat but still beautiful and talented. The win would be nice and exciting but more than that I just pray each horse comes home safe. God Speed to all.

I think Big Brown will win the Triple Crown. He is a very talented horse and I’m glad he’s getting the attention he deserves. He was kind of in the shadows at the Derby with the unfortunate death of Eight Bells. I just hope he wins with no injuries. I have held my breath since the tragedy at the Derby.

The only horse who can beat Big Brown this year is the great Curlin.

You’re kidding, right? Last night we’re asked if a terrorist “SHOULD” get a fair trial and tonight if Big Brown “CAN” win the Triple Crown (the answer, of course, is that he most certainly “can”). Maybe the next question should be “Do you think that ABC’s Nightline program will ever regain a measure of the journalistic integrity it once possessed?”. Between the insufferable attempts at forcing Cynthia McFadden’s square peg into Barbara Walter’s round hole (the only thing missing from McFadden’s schlocky interview with Madonna was the “tree” question) and the weekly “Playlist” feature we get the intellectual equivalent of pablum. I realize the days of Koppel are gone but let’s face it: we’re being asked about a horse because – lo and behold – the race is being televised by ABC! Anybody think we’d be asked this question if it were FOX televising the Belmont? This show appears so disjointed at times – as though it can’t figure out what it wants to be – that it rarely gets anything “right”. It’s political pieces come across as extremely lightweight (again, I don’t mean to pick on McFadden but her Clinton coverage during the recently concluded campaign was little more than an ass-kissing embarrassment. And I’m a huge HRC supporter, btw) and it’s entertainment pieces seem to be done by people who consider themselves to be above them and so offer a certain sneering aloofness. If Nightline is to be taken as nothing more than an entertainment vehicle then I suggest it just be removed and Kimmel moved up into the vacated time slot. God knows he’s more informative (and knowledgable of current events, I’m sure) than any of the regular talking heads we now get. My guess is that he could also come up with a better Question of the Day than “Can Big Brown win this weekend?”….

This horse is poetry in motion; watching him run is sheer joy!
I pray he wins, not just because racing needs a Triple Crown Winner — no, because he is an honest-to-God real champion, skilled in running true with a heart and soul reaching up to heaven! He’s the real thing!
That run in the Preakness when Kent just shook the reins, no whip, was one of the all-time moments to remember.
So, go Big Brown. The hopes of your fans are riding with you!
