Closing Arguments: Obama Overseas

Senator Barack Obama heads overseas for his first trip as the presumptive Democratic nominee for president this weekend. He’ll make stops in Europe and Israel and he’s also expected to stop in Afghanistan and Iraq. What do you think about his trip? Is it all about politics and the potential PR value or could this trip begin to shape a new American foreign policy if he wins in November?

What would actually be useful is for ABC or any other news group to explain Phil Gramm’s background. He was integral in creating the loopholes and deregulation that brought us Enron, the mortgage crisis, a weak dollar, and alas, skyrocketing oil speculation.
Good reporting, ABC.

I THOUGHT TO BE PRESIDENT, YOU HAD TO BE “ELECTED”?
The media is coronating Obama — Reagan and Kennedy were both “elected” before they went and spoke in Germany to the public. I think we should have the election by the Anerican people first, and then the media and should back who is elected — not who they favor. This thing in Germany, he is not speaking for the American people yet.
HOW MUCH IS THIS TRIP COSTING THE TAXPAYERS?
Barack Hussein Obama “hopes” we won’t notice how many times he’s “changed” his mind.
Why did Obama wait until he is running for President to find out what’s going on overseas?
ALL IT IS NOW IS A HUGE “PHOTO-0P” WITH THE BIASED MEDIA IN TOW.
If he cared at all about what is going on — he would have been before now — and don’t even get me started on Afghanistan — he should have been there several times — considering his committee appointment.
This man is a fake and a fraud and my only hope is that the American people wake up before it is too late. HE IS A DANGER TO AMERICA.

Senator Obama is taking Charlie Gibson,Katie Couric and Brian Williams on his overseas visit. Does anyone really think this trip is to shape a new American foreign policy?? Really ABC,how stupid do you think we are? This is nothing but a publicity stunt.

I will be interested to see how Obama
presents himself to Europe and if he
has the grasp on foreign affairs that will be needed by our next president.
Also, will be watching to see the reception that he receives by the people
of Germany. I wish him luck as America
needs a person who can capture the
respect of the other countries.

His trip is a farce. It is totally political. I hope the American people see him as he really is. HE IS A DANGER TO OUR COUNTRY. He is NO John Kennedy.

POLITICS, POLITICS, POLITICS! Obama’s trip is all and only about Politics.
Having only exactly 143 days of experience in the U.S. Senate, before setting his sights on winning the White House, OBAMA realizes that he desperately needs to persuade the American people that he knows SOMETHING about Foreign Policy!

Posted by: Babsline | July 19, 2008, 12:15 am 12:15 am

I agree with anyone-but-obama. He should wait untill he is elected. He is wasting time and the taxpayers’ money.
Are the candidates still drawing their senator pay? if so, shouldn’t they be performing their senatorial duties? Most people cannot take a couple years off from their jobs to apply for another job, and still expect to be paid.

Posted by: RJProfessor | July 19, 2008, 12:15 am 12:15 am

Obama doesn’t know much about anything like many of his supporters. He can’t think and speak at the same time. He is lost without his teleprompter where he reads speeches written by his speech writers. He is a fraud. For example, he was criticizing the Bush Administration and stated that too many Arabic tranlators were in Iraq when they were needed in Afganistan. Arabic is not spoken in Afganistan. His trip to the Middle East is purely political to get his name on the front page of newspapers, on the major network news programs, and to draw attention to himself for free publicity.

Posted by: Gary | July 19, 2008, 12:17 am 12:17 am

How about if Obama did the job he was elected to do – serving the people of Illinois. From the time he was elected all he’s been doing is trying to be elected to a different job. I also want to know who is paying for this trip? It has nothing to do with his Illinois senate seat, so I hope he is paying for it out of his own pocket (fat chance).

Posted by: Diane | July 19, 2008, 12:18 am 12:18 am

Obama is merely a politician with an agenda. He drags you media dopes around like puppies only for the photo opportunities you continue to provide for him. He isn’t the right man for the presidency. Not because he’s black (Powell would have been a great candidate), not because he’s a democrat (though, for us “common folk” that’s nearly enough), it’s because he has NO real experience and he IS running as the 1st black with a real chance as president. If he would have done this without the hype of being the “1st Black President” and ran on a love for this country and a desire to serve it best, then he might have gotten a vote from me. But, I don’t trust him. Not after his wife’s comments, not after his lies about never hearing Wright speak the way he does, not after the political in-fighting with Clinton and then the sudden “we’re all friends” routine he and she pulled.
He’s a sham, a flash in the pan.
God help us if this phoney DOES become president. However, I suppose you media types will eat it up, continue to hype him at the expense of the American people, and continue to lie to us.

Obama is a dangerous man and a threat to America. He is hoping peoeple in this country and overseas will see him as president. I am pretty sure he will say something that will show his true colors and finish his attempt to become president, a job he is ill prepared for.

Posted by: Barbara Parrish | July 19, 2008, 12:19 am 12:19 am

Even German politicians are questioning the appearance of Obama in Berlin. No German candidate for chanceralship would do this(hold a speech in America) as Obama is planning to do in Germany. His trip is mainly a political move, trying to be able to stand up to McCains claims of being the better candidate when it comes to foreign policies. Although I will vote for Obama, I think it is a cheap shot. But – McCain is not an option for me.

Posted by: Gerda | July 19, 2008, 12:20 am 12:20 am

I think it is important for Obama to make this trip. He is an intelligent man with an amazing ability to inspire and unite people. The experience of this trip will add to his understanding of these areas of the world and that will help us all when he is President. The people who insist on insinuating that he has Muslim ties should realize if that were really true his opponents would have proven that and ran in into the ground a long time ago.

I was crazy for Sen. Obama….I said “was”. I believed him. Then I “wanted” to believe him. Now, I’m just disappointed. I hate saying it; but, it is so very wrong for him to not keep this trip solely as a visit with our troops and conference with them and their commanders. It’s just my opinion; but, by the Senator extending his travels to other countries makes me feel the only value the senator places to his visit with our soldiers is the stepping stone it gives him to campaign in Europe. It is so wrong and so obvious.

Posted by: cathy | July 19, 2008, 12:31 am 12:31 am

You asked if Senator Obama’s trip is political for PR or to shape foreign policy. The anser is self-evident by the number of media peaple who will be accompanying him.

What I’m amazed at is a lot of obama’s supporters have college degrees and in college, you used to anyway, look at both sides of whatever your studying coming to a rational position… or conclusion .Yet obama is vacant of changing anything but his diapers and the liberal media I wont even call them biased cause its so blatent follow obama as he walks across the ocean…and with that the liberals want the unfairness doctrine… you know maybe its good I saved my money and went on my own rather then going to college its like get a degree lose your common sense. All I can say is vote for obama and good you’ll have him enjoy…

Politics Politics Politics
Obama wants to APPEAR that he knows what is going on in the world. That he
is familiar with world leaders. What a
junior (child) he is showing himself to
be. Like a child, he can’t decide what
he stands for. An intelligent person can
see through this jellyfish. Obama has certainly shut Michelle’s mouth so she
wont say more idiotic jibberish.
Sure do give Obama credit, He is a slick-tongued dude that has fooled an
awful lot of people to thinking he can
jump over tall buildings, run faster than a speeding bullet, and see through
brick walls, and is the answer to all the problems that the good old USA is
combating at this time.
Dream on, only the media has pronounced
him as ‘the anointed one”.

What I’m afraid of more then Obama are the people that support him ….it’s really sad there are so many he may be an empty suit but they certainly are empty brained.

Posted by: Ron Pellet | July 19, 2008, 12:45 am 12:45 am

Obama must be attempting to convince
himself he understands world politics.
Twenty (20) years listening to his pastor, with his wife at his side, cannot erase from his mind the prejudice
and hatred that penetrated his heart.
For one minute, do you think he wouldn’t
dump you or me as he has Jerimiah Wright?? Even if it is only in words.
Michelle has been hushed up. If you
don’t agree that he will do or say
anything to be elected, you just got off the turnip truck, and deserve him
and his ilk.

I think it is great that he is going overseas. For the last 7 years the U.S. has been seen as arrogant and aggressive, lead by an egotistic idiot. Obama is the ideal person to speak with foreign leaders. He is an eliquent speaker and a diplomat with new ideas in the same vain as John Kennedy. Why has McCain not drawn any controversy with all of his foreign trips? He can barely put two sentences together without flubbing up. Reminiscent of George Bush. Obama is a breath of fresh air.

Obama created his own presidential seal. This buffoon knows no bounds regarding what is proper and what is not. He got into Harvard because of affirmative action. His wife got into Princeton because of affirmative action.
He used Rev. Wright to get black credentials. he hobnobbed with anti-war terrorists like William Ayers and others.
This buffoon did not produce anything in terms of legislative accomplishments.
His ambition is sky high.
This same press pushed George W. Bush as the likeable guy and made the difference.
Obama thinks there are 57 states in the U.S. He thinks they speak arabic in Afghanisthan. He changes his position on every issue as the politics demand. He has as much credibility as O.J. Simpson.
These buffoons in the press have pimped out their journalistic principles. They have dropped the pretense of objectivity. Fox News seems more credible these days.
FYI, I think Chris Matthews is discovering he is gay.

Please tell me who is running OBOMA? He is a puppet and I’d like to know who his advisors are incase he wins the election, I’d like to know who will really be running this country. Wasn’t it OBOMA who said while he was in Michigan that he had been to “57 states and was headed to the last one tomorrow”. Tell me, what does he do or have that actually qualifies him to be a Senator much less the LEADER of this great United States. I thought Governers ran for President. Why were Senators chosen this year? So Hilary could run?
I also think that there should be some great qualifications behind a man or woman that is elected to run America. Our lives are in their hand after all. Oboma has absolutely NO experience running anything,he is so confused about who everyone in the political process is, he has NO IDEA who is who well enough to be able to appoint powerful positions below him…….this is so scary and we are in dangerous times in America. Do the terrorists have to destroy a whole American City beore we get it…that they (terrorists) are real and they are a threat and they hate us?
IT APPAULS ME THAT ABC, NBC AND CBS WOULD JOIN OBOMA ON HIS ROCK OBOMA TOUR TO TRY TO BOOSTER HIS POLITICAL POSITION. WHY DID YOU NOT FOLLOW BUSH OR McCAIN WHEN THEY VISITED THOSE COUNTRIES? THE MEDIA IS SO BIAS IS SICKENS ME!!!
Oboma is a terrible threat to this country and I wish the NEWS would report the truth and stop joining in on trying to socialize and ruin the freedoms that America was created to have by uplifting “the Messiah, oboma” He is not a messiah, he is NOT QUALIFIED…..GET IT?

I see that the hateful Republicans are still alive and well. How sad and pathetic they continue to be. First McCain is critical because Obama hasn’t been overseas and now he’s critical because he’s going. He’s bringing out the old Republican play book and is going to look pathetic in Jan.

One trip overseas by a geopolitical neophyte, does not produce an EXPERIENCED
President. He can look and sound as presidential as possible, with all the news anchor’s in tow, Obama pimps at best.In the month of June the network anchor’s spent a total of 146 minutes covering Obama, versus McCain being covered 48 minutes. What do I think of Obama’s trip overseas, I’d feel a lot better if he through on a helmet and went for a tank ride. But his trip will make for great theater.
P.S. Jesse Jackson’s comments about cutting a certain area of Obama are untrue; Why! You could put a dozen Obama’s together and still not come up with a full pair…Badop bomp!

Enjoy your “Audacity of Hope” world tour Senator Obama. It may be the only time you can actually express your hope for America without hearing the jeers of the frightened, huddled masses. You certainly won’t want to let the world know that America is actually a nation of whiners suffering from psychological needs brought on by a mental recession. And since your detractors are going to cry that your visit isn’t a fact-finding, diplomatic mission, but merely a political stunt to garner support for your leftist idea that diplomacy should be employed at all costs before Americans bomb, bomb, bomb and make war, war, war upon another sovereign nation, you should realize that these unseemly and unjustifiable tactics are not going to quell the rumor that you’re trying to be the next President of the United States. Otherwise, good luck with that.

Obama reminds me of my little nephew when he steps into his fathers shoes. He’s got a whole lot of growing to do. To go to Europe, while back home in Chicago, people in his precinct are being killed in record numbers, and the apartments are uninhabitable. If he can’t take care of these problems, why is he trying to posture internationally? Why the media is pushing Obama down our throats is a mystery.

Posted by: Anna | July 19, 2008, 3:11 am 3:11 am

Obama is already shaping foreign policy, and he’s not even the official nominee yet. He’s the one who said he would talk to our adversaries – and look who’s talking to Iran now. He’s the one who had called for a timetable to withdraw our troops from Iraq within 16 months of becoming President. Look who’s talking about setting up a timetable NOW to start withdrawing troops. Of course this is PR – but I’m sure it’s also for his own education -if he could do all that without having visited the region in three years, just think what he’ll accomplish after taking in all that he sees and learns from this trip.

Posted by: Lori | July 19, 2008, 3:15 am 3:15 am

Obama’s trip overseas is totally political. Since when did he care about what’s going on in Iraq? Or Afghanistan? I didn’t hear anything about him stopping in Afghanistan! The people he needs to be speaking to and LISTENING TO aren’t even going to be at his appearance over there–they’re all going to be out at security check points, patrolling the streets of Iraq, training Iraqi soldiers, hunting for insurgents, digging for weapons caches, etc., etc……Serioulsy–he just needs to stay home!!

Perhaps this international trip by a US leader that is so well spoken, intelligent and well informed will begin to undo the devestation to our image abroad. So much damage has been done by Bush & Co. with their war mongering and unfettered greed. We need to work cooperatively with many other nations to solve the problems our planet is faced with now…Obama is stunningly adept at bringing people together to solve common problems, and inspiring them to take action. I hope the press will not continue to believe they must report both truth and lies as though they are equally credible out of some misguided belief that that is what constitutes “equal time.”

Well it’s out in the open now. OK, I’ll be the one to say it! The left leaning liberal elites, which includes the decision makers at ABC, CBS & NBC are trotting out their beloved liberal (guilt reducing) mulatt’o candidate, BHO, onto the the world stage to say. See, we’re making up for our past sins against the black people! Never mind that all European countries had slavery for centuries before the USA was born. regarding the ongoing “OBAMA DRAMA”
The one buzz phrase that is used beyond too much is “Obama–the presumptive nominee” a slight spelling change is needed. Obama is the “PRESUMPTUOUS” candidate. He can Kennedy-ize himself all he wants, with his posturing posing and pontificating, but he’s NO Jack Kennedy.
ABC,NBC and CBS have really overplayed their hand with this pending coverage…Obama is ready to be Prom King, not M.L. KING and certainly not ready for prime time to be president.
I’m NOT ashamed of my country…sometimes Im ashamed of my government, but now forever, I will be exasperated by the 3 major networks and ttheir pandering to this rock star who longs to be the leader of the free world. shame on you all.
I pray every night against it. Im not overly religious or devout, but Obama has made a desperate believer out of me.

To anti Obama whiners….. eat your hearts out:
First, Obama’s campaign is paying all expenses directly related to Obama’s trip. The media are paying their own expenses. Second, you can expect Obama to be on the news every day on this tour. McCain will have to beg for news coverage during this time.
You can safely bet that by now McCain has fired the advisors that egged on this tour. This would make it about the 4th time McCain has had a staff turnover?

Junior Senator thinks world tour with 300 friends makes him eligible for presidency? I don’t think so.
Pre Job training — Well maybe he can find time to hold one of the oversight committee’s — ya know do his ‘present’ job — Oh, I forgot, that was just a big stepping stone — he had no intentions of doing any real work — so now we are supposed to trust that he will actually do something for America?
No I think it’s a little to late to convince me he gives a flip about our service men and women in Afganistan.
I’m voting for John McCain. He has proven he loves this country enough to die for us. He has many years of experience.

Obama is playing the roll of President on his trip abroad, on this high-level stops throughout Europe and the Middle East with his important cast of characters and members of the press—and he is doing this before the Democratic Convention in late August which nominate him as their nominee, and he is representing America before the “people” get a chance to vote in November— and no one finds this a bit strange. This is more than just presumptuous—-it shows arrogance and egotism. This is what dictators do in other nations. The campaign is just following the Hollywood script of Mr. Smith goes to Washington. It worked in the movie and maybe it will work for Obama too. There is a BIG difference though, Jimmy Steward was in a “movie” and Obama with his padded credentials, and inexperience will be leading a nation—-“for real”.

Did ABC,CBS,and NBC follow MC Cain to Iraq when he went? Hell no. He got 15 seconds on the evening new. These news people are so liberal they make a rubber band look stiff. Obamma is not president yet and I trust him about as far as I could throw an elephant with a broken arm. Charisma does not run a country, common sense, and concern for it’s people is what counts.

I believe that if you want to get to know how to solve a problem, first you need to get all the facts on the problem. Obama is hopefully going to be President, so wouldn’t he need to know how to go about withdrawing troups when in office, by seeing what is going on over in war territory first hand? I dont care what the others scheptics say about politics or publicity, he is there isn’t he. I think its great that he went. At least he is trying to do something about it.

Why are we bothering to hold an election
On one side, you have a pants wearing woman lawyer, married to a lawyer who can’t keep his pants on, who lost a long and heated primary against a lawyer
who goes to the wrong church, who is married
to yet another lawyer who doesn’t even
like the country her husband wants to run.
On the other side, you have a nice old
war hero whose name starts with the
appropriate “Mc” terminology married to a good looking younger woman who owns a
beer distributorship.
What is the good old USA thinking ???

Why does the dimwit part of my Party do this ? First you slam Obama for not going and then you slam him for going because you suddenly realize the World loves Obama. We smart Republicans said this would happen.
Did you really think that the handful local people and Officials attended McCains trips would look good in comparision to the Millions who may show up for Obama.
Also, who really thought these News people would follow MCaCain into Boredom hoping only for the expected mistakes he always makes ?
BUSH knew about McCain and his problems years ago and Slipboated him out of the 2000 Election.

What is with the irrational hate mongers on here? They seem completely ignorant of reality. Ignorant that Obama has been an elected government representative for over a decade (longer than Senator Clinton). Ignorant that he already has been elected to speak for Americans. Ignorant that is is part of his job as Senator to make fact finding trips such as this. Ignorant of any of his policy positions, well laid out in detailed policy papers on his site (no policy can be delivered by sound bite).
After seeing the Republican administration, aided by a Republican Congress, run this country into the ground, squandering a budget surplus, driving up government spending, creating a new massive new bureaucracy, infringing on civil rights, massively devalue the dollar, and denying any constitutional checks or accountability every step of the way, forgive me if I find ignorants denying reality good counsel on who to vote for in November.

If the media placed half the scrutiny on the current administration as they are currently placing on Obama, we might have seen some of the atrocities & blunders comitted reversed. Why is it that Obama receives criticism for not going, & then again for going??? Why does Obama have to get everything just perfect, but Bush can blather like a bumbling idiot & the MSM remains silent??? Why is a narrative being set that will not accept anything but perfection from Obama but McCain can crack jokes about our cigarette exports killing Iran & only hear about it on lefty blogs???
Malliki endorsed Obama’s withdrawal plan today. Perhaps we should be discussing that along with Bush’s “time horizon”. The fact that the MSM is going along with that idiotic phrase makes me wanna puke.
It appears that all the ground work is being laid for an Obama administration (as it should be) because we all know he’s more respected by a long shot than anything the Republicans have to offer.
Obama called for withdrawal of combat troops from Iraq. That policy is now being pursued. Obama called for troop increases in Afghanistan. That policy is being pursued. Obama called for diplomacy in Iran. For the first time in 30 years we are stationing a diplomatic team in Iran. I know the MSM has a desperate need for a horse race election, but it really does nothing to create feelings of security with the general public. We’re suffering from something similar to battered wife syndrome (from 7 1/2 years of an abusive government). We are worried about another election being stolen. The incessant need of the MSM to criticise Obama while giving McCain a free ride leads US to believe the motives are nefarious.
I wish Obama the best of luck, & presence of mind on this historical trip. The world may begin to see US in a far more favorable light.

Soetoro No! I am an Obama supporter because I find his “substance” deeper and more appealing than McCain’s. Have you read the hundreds of pages of detailed, specific plans that Obama has placed on his site?
Fact: Senator Obama has released detailed plans specifically identifying how he would achieve his goals – go to his website, select issues from the navigation bar, and then follow the links at the bottom of the page for the .pdf reports with details. Where are Senator McCain’s detailed plans? I checked his website and all I can find is a list of talking points, promising hundreds of billions of dollars of spending and billions of dollars of new tax cuts financed by ‘cutting pork’ (if he eliminated all pork it wouldn’t fund a tenth of his pandering).
Senator Obama has plans and has the courage to put them out there, warts and all. He states where he is going to get the funding to support his infrastructure-targeted stimulus, rather than lying that it will be delivered by the “waste cutting” fairy. After 6 years of a Republican Congress with Republican Administration, if there is that much waste left why would we possibly give then another four years to waste America? Senator McCain is promising the moon in vauge bullet points with no acknowledgment of how he’s going to pay for it.
The Republican’s have already maxed out America’s credit card, it’s time we have a fiscally responsible president. And if you look at reality, at the hard numbers of how a Republican administration and Congress spends, it is clear that calling Republicans fiscally conservative, responsible, or even competent is a clear lie.
Do you have any FACT based opposition to raise about Senator Obama, or just more vapid talking points and partisan foam-finger waving?

Posted by: jhw539 | July 19, 2008, 11:33 am 11:33 am

P.S. Has ABC really really reached a point where only 23%ers will respond to your blogs??? Or are you perhaps filtering the pro Obama comments, like you filtered the favorable Obama poll this week…

Posted by: Chapman | July 19, 2008, 11:35 am 11:35 am

Why does Obama have to prove himself and McCain doesn’t. McCain has ZERO executive experience. Just because he’s been around since before Christ was a boy, that doesn’t make him qualified. Our right-wing media is constantly tilting the playing field in McCain’s favor, giving him a free pass on things he isn’t qualified to have a free pass on. McCain has experience in scandals and smoke filled back room deals. No experience running anything. Why does he get a free pass but Obama has to prove himself? More corporate right wing bias in favor or McCain.

Posted by: allen_osuno | July 19, 2008, 11:41 am 11:41 am

A fleet of press follows Obama abroad, including all the main news anchors, how come you didn’t follow McCain as well? Why are you in love with Obama? The role of the press, as far as I know, are to be as objective as possible, reporting the news, and only the news. Why dont’ you report on Obama’s clear corruption connections in Chicago? On poor little Curtis Cooper? Boston Globe did, Chicago media did, but the MSM just ignores. Obama has been proven to be a dangerous, corrupt, liar, and you just go on following on his coattails thinking he is the messiah. He has 300 foreign policy advisors, so basically he is a puppet, and he cant’ answer a question without a teleprompter. What a joke, how did Americans get to this horrible situation?

Posted by: doublestandard | July 19, 2008, 11:50 am 11:50 am

ML and all cons like you: “huge fool”, “air of superiority”, “pompous a$$”…You truth twisters use these terms about Obama, and yet they apply specifically to John McCain and George W Bush. How come you 23 percenters can’t reason your way out of your own hole-in-the-ground bungholes, and you can’t find any criticism for a party and a president who put our country into bankruptcy, false war and ruin, but you have words of vitriol for Obama, who has specific plans for helping pull out out of the ditch you cons have put us in? The only words for you guys are ‘brain-dead’ and ‘disingenuous’at best. You’re always flagrantly dishonest and blockheads who wouldn’t know the truth if it bit you square in the face.

Posted by: allen_osuno | July 19, 2008, 11:52 am 11:52 am

PS: Hey ‘doublestandard’: Don’t look now but the press IS in love with McCain and gives him free passes on everything: corrupt jokes, corrupt lobbyist campaign supporters, zero-idea political platform, bankrupt morals…McCain gets a free pass on them all and the press has NO criticism for McCain but puts Obama under a microscope on everything. What is WRONG with you that you have everything a$$-backwards and inside-out-wrong?

The talking point will be in the picture setups. If he is trying to look informal, it’s for politics. If he is formally dressed, one or two figures in the photo, it’s a negotiation and he is no position to negotiate so this is a question with only one answer.
It’s ALL politics and PR but the image he is trying to project tells the intent.

Obama: Still fooling some of the people all of the time!

Posted by: S | July 19, 2008, 1:11 pm 1:11 pm

When a lie becomes the truth…
A lot of families understand the heartbreak and despair that surrounds a loved one involved in hard-drug addiction. There are specific psycho-dynamics involved with individuals on drugs, specifically LYING.
They develop a comfort level with lying and become good at it. The other common psycho-dynamic is the “CRISIS” in their lives (IMAGINED OR REAL), that leads their decision making to a path of hard-drug addiction as a way to cope and solve problems.
Mr. Obama, an admitted ex-cocaine user, wants to be President of the United States, arguably the most crisis-laden job in the world. Mr. Obama’s broke an outright promise to the American People, “I will accept federal funds for my campaign”.
OBAMA LIED-THEN JUSTIFIED IT, not once, but more than several times. This is not policy change or the common flip-flopping associated with presidential politics, THIS IS A FUNDAMENTAL BREACH OF TRUST!
The most troubling aspect of Mr. Obama is, his comfort level with lying and his belief that the voters are going to ignore this?
The democrats already realize that the Obama they supported just a few months ago, is not the Obama of today.
Mr. Obama is showing very definitive personalty traits that are more than troubling, besides his inexperience.
Ask yourselves this: DO WE AS AMERICANS TRUST THE NATIONS NUCLEAR FOOTBALL TO AN EX-COKE HEAD??? This addiction counselor with 32 years of experience will not! This is not a racial issue, this is a reality issue.
There are ex-addicts who do go on to become successful in other life pursuits.
Let Mr. Obama with his lying, pursue those other life-endeavors, not the Presidency of the United States. This office is where critical decision making in a multi-faceted crisis could cost hundreds, even thousand of lives.
Ask President Lyndon Johnson, the ultimate Democrat war escalator, who unfortunately is no longer with us.
Ask President Jimmy Carter, Democrat, who committed “The Mother Of All Military Rescue Screw-ups” during the Iranian Hostage Situation!
War with Iran is not a matter of if, but simply when and this is crisis management reality at it’s purest, a crisis I would never trust Mr. Obama’s decision making to execute!
Respectfully,
Dave Rappoport,
drapp9@yahoo.com
P.S. Since the flock of network anchors, aka, the Obama “PIMP MY CANDIDACY TEAM” has already begun Obama’s coronation, he will now be addressed as “The Ayatollah of Crapola”. The “Mullah of all lying Mullah’s” and what a Mullah Flocker he is.

I’m getting D**&%$d tired of ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, ad infinitum keep putting Obama in the headlines. Tetty Moran is the sorriest “journalist” I have ever seen or heard. Honey flows out of his mouth when he speaks the “Blessed Name” of OBAMA. This is a two person race for the presidency, not the “selection” of Obama. He AIN’T qualified to run for dog catcher much less the President of the United States.
And since when does a “candidate” start making policy. Obama is worse than Pelosi when interferring with policy making of the government. Congess and Congressmen and women MAKE LAWS, not POLICY.

Posted by: texasbluedarter | July 21, 2008, 11:47 pm 11:47 pm

I hope everyone realizes that is a race to the Presidency. And it has to do with the man, not his race.
Obama is tugging on the heartstrings of Americans right now. Telling us what we want to hear. Of course, we want to be done with the war. We want to stop losing our sons & daughters. We want to concentrate on what is happening to our country (the economy for example). We have been in Iraq this long, we have invested billions of dollars, we might as well finish the job. We were all for it when it began. Alot of good came of our loss. With our loss, we’ve sacrificed, and we have also gained alot!
Mr. Obama, I don’t think you are the man for the job. Mr. McCain, I don’t think you are either, but, I respect your ideas/views on Iraq. I think on the ballot for President, we have a slot for NONE OF THE ABOVE!
What is our country coming to? Is anyone else out there afraid? All I can do is pray as often and as hard as I possibly can. Because at this point it is in God’s hands!
Like a Statefarm agent recently put on his roadside stand, ” Taxpayers voting for Obama, is like chickens voting for Colonel Sanders!”

Balack Obama will most likely be the first black president in this white nation. He is a marxist and will ultimately help destroy the freedom our forefathers died for when building this nation. He won’t get there without the help of the corporate media though. I have noticed for months how they always show this slimy scumbag in way that is almost christ like. He is the saviour that will come to save the world.

Posted by: cjc1223 | July 22, 2008, 12:24 am 12:24 am

Having just watched Terry Moran’s “exclusive interview” with candidate Obama, the thing that struck me most was Obama’s absolute refusal to give credit where credit is due–to the troop surge for helping bring down the level of violence in Iraq. Part of leading and being responsible is recognizing and admitting your own mistakes, but he absolutely refuses to do so. He will give credit to anyone and everyone but those who made the surge happen, and, in fact, he would oppose it all over again–amazingly enough, he said so. Heaven help us if he is elected Commander-in-Chief.

Posted by: OlFubar | July 22, 2008, 12:32 am 12:32 am

Obama is right and McCain is wrong. The violence in Iraq is down because the Sunni’s terminated their relationship with Al Queda, the Shiites have withdrawn their militias from activity (unforeseen developments) and the Surge. This is what Obama has always said. The line that McCain is pushing is that violence is down only because of the Surge, and that is wrong. The Surge is a tactical policy that cannot be sustained in the long run with Afghanistan falling apart. McCain is not qualified to be Commander-in-Chief because he does not know the difference between a war of choice and a war of necessity. Obama does.

Posted by: Michael | July 22, 2008, 12:35 am 12:35 am

And you, Michael, have not a clue as to why the the Sunnis and the Shiites acted the way they did–they saw the surge handwriting on the wall. You people are going to be the death of the rest of us.

Posted by: OlFubar | July 22, 2008, 12:39 am 12:39 am

The greatest war strategist/leaders throughout history had solid plans for defeating the enemy, they significant historical knowledge of the enemy and intelligence on the enemy.
George Bush led our nation into Iraq with his, Cheney’s and Condie’s EGO’S.
The “surge” is a bandaid that will hold temporarily. The war that the United States is bogged down in in Iraq will not be won by Bush’s tactical month-by-month playbook.
Bush unleased hell in Iraq. We should have stayed the course in Afganistan and rooted out our enemy there, rather than running from pillar to post with a shotgun approach and no solid strategic plan for protecting our nation.
Neither candidate will get us out of the Middle East. We will be there until the ancient of days comes again.

Posted by: Rhonda | July 22, 2008, 12:52 am 12:52 am

Obama still hopes we lose the Iraq war and may have a chance to guarantee the loss when the media elects him president. It’s obvious his preconceived notions about Iraq have not been changed by the facts. He is naive, presumptious, arrogant, and obviously unqualified to be president of the U.S. Why does ABC want to elect him?

Posted by: hnt | July 22, 2008, 12:52 am 12:52 am

it’s obvious from the interview with terry moran that sen. obama doesn’t want to answer tough questions. he was wishy-washy and tried to answer a question before moran even asked. even moran said, ‘how do you know what i will ask?’ we need more than just somebody who offers something as hollow as hope, we need somebody who has answers. hopefully more people in the media will stop fawning on obama and keep asking tough questions, and see how he handles a baptism of fire. being president is a tough job, and we don’t need somebody who promises a lot of things but is unable to deliver. and i liked how german chancellor merkel quashed his speech in berlin, of course it was ‘presumptuous’. kennedy and reagan spoke there, but did so as president. and obama isn’t president yet!

its real sad to see so much ignorance is embedded in the minds of americans, no wonder people like bush get elected and play havoc with rights and civil liberties and mantain a genocidal attitude by murdering 1.5 million iraqi men, woman and children, and not to speak about the 5000+ young american kids who laid their lives in vain. While we are busy trying to teach the world our way of life through force. The world is busy running us into the ground ecnomically. with emergence of China and India as economic giants. All you nit wits, wake up and get enlightened or you would really loose in the 21st century.wether o bama is right for us or not, or he is a fake, at least he is preaching something we havent heard before, and you know what? he just might pull us through, I dont think he is a bad gamble as compared to the bushes or the clintons. For 25 years all mcain did was wheel and deal in the smoke filled back rooms, for personal gains.if you call this experience, then shame on you.

Darned if you do! Darned if you don’t! Complain because he hasn’t spoken to the generals and now complain cause he does. I just wish all the speeches weren’t the same from all the candidates all the time!
I also wish they’d donate 1/2 of the money they raise to building businesses in this country. With the technology today you really don’t have to go anywhere to campaign. You could do it on line and in a movie. It sure would cost less and the majority of us wouldn’t have to watch it 100 times over.
What about Mc Cain’s commercial charging O’Bahma with the Oil crisis. What happen to Bush for the past 8 years and his congress. Give us a break. I’m an independent and I think this is wasteful spending….

The money spent for the trip could have been used to help his countrymen, that is if he is patriotic.
