How Did Clinton, Biden Do?

The morning after…grab that cup of coffee and get typing.  For Bill Clinton (click to watch) this was an opportunity to lay rifts to rest and to make the case that Barack Obama was ready to sit in the oval office.  For Joe Biden, last night (click to watch) was a chance to introduce himself and his family and to take on John McCain.  Were they effective?  Did they fall short?

User Comments

Thank you President Clinton…We look forward to see you on the trail for Obama. Joe keep the attacks coming!

I love Bill! He and Hillary did an awesome job but I still will not vote for BO and for many reasons. The most important one is that I am not a hypocrite! I can not vote for someone that I debated all their weaknesses and now say it is okay, I didn’t really mean it! BO WILL NOT GET MY VOTE! Michelle makes me sick! They keep asking everything of the Clinton’s to unite the party but do nothing in return! That is the way he will be in office if were to get elected. He is on his own now!

I’m sorry Bill & Hillary….I still cannot vote for a flawed candidate! I don’t agree with everything McCain stands for, but at least I know what he stands for…and so does he!

Great speach by Clinton but it was all BS. How can someone who spent the past 18 months telling us all the reasons why Obama is not qualified to be Pres and then Clinton is backed into a wall. I am voting McCain.

a 6:53am post?!
Clinton was good. Biden was great. Kerry, was once-in-a-lifetime. If he would have been that loose and inspired four years ago, Obama would still be focusing on a first term in the Senate.

how good of a leader is hillary if she can’t even get her loyal supporters to vote for the democratic nominee over the republican? Get some brains hillites.

Barack would not have as much a problem with most Hillary supporters if he had run a campaign praising the accomplishments of the Clinton era. He could have made the case that he was ready to bring a new vision to build on the foundation laid by Bill, but he did not. He ran against Bill’s legacy but did not mention him by name. Nope. He praised Ronald Reagan for changing the direction of the country. He said Reagan did it in a way that Clinton did not.

I can see some Republicans claiming to be Democrats on this blog.
By the way, this is a democratic country so you are free to vote for whoever you think is best for this country.
Right now I am leaning towards OBAMA unless McCain can prove to me that he is not another Bush and he has policy prescriptions that will take this country to prosperity that is based on social justice.
All I hear from the McCain campaign at the moment is Obama is this Obama is that.
This election is NOT about Obama. It is about the American people.

Jordan-
Did it ever occur to you that what the Clintons were saying on the campaign trail was all BS? They knew Obama was ready to be President all along, and they did everything they could to destroy him for their own purposes.

Wow. Bill Clinton is back. I was amazed and pleased by his speech. I do not know what or who got him on the bandwagon but thank goodness he is there now. The Bill Clinton last night was the Bill Clinton that we all know and love(or loathe). The Bill Clinton who could sell icecream to Eskimos is back. I hope he stays.
Joe Biden was also great and I look foreward to find out more about him. He and Obama will make a great team.

“I’m sorry Bill & Hillary….I still cannot vote for a flawed candidate” Geeze Ed no one is perfect. Not even you. Since as far as I know Jesus Christ has not made his second coming I can assume you will not be voting for anyone in this election?

Posted by: jenny | August 28, 2008, 8:06 am 8:06 am

Bill Clinton did great! He was more than generous with his platitudes. However, I take his comment about Obama being ready to be President with a grain of salt. It could also mean ready to be a President by surrounding himself with the old establishment and lobbyists, as the campaign and convention has shown….Any which way Clinton’s speech is parsed, I’m still voting for McCain since the DNC failed to pick up the best, qualified candidate. I’m still at awe on how a Freshman Senator could possibly run this country. I’m assuming that Obama will be a puppet for the Kennedys, Pelosis and the extreme left-wing of the party. Yikes!

One has to admit, Hillary kept her butt in the primary process way too long and carved into Obama, mercilessly. She could have single handedly cost us 4 years of McBushleague.
This self centered attitude of hers is no better than the Retreadlicans.
For the first woman with a real chance, she sure slaughtered it for the next woman.

Posted by: DAVID NH | August 28, 2008, 8:24 am 8:24 am

Hillary stayed in the race because people wanted to vote for her. David you sound like all the other sexists. Looks like alot of whinning about getting beat up by a girl to me! Hillary didn’t damage anything that wasn’t already rotten. If he can’t sell his BS to the masses then he is the loser which I already think he is.

Posted by: Terri | August 28, 2008, 8:29 am 8:29 am

Sadly, it seems that many of the Clinton supporters must have been voting on a personality rather than the issues. If you line Hillary’s views side by side with McCain and Obama, there is no way that you could choose McCain as closer to her stands on issues. So, how could you think of supporting a candidate with plans so different from the candidate you supported? It just doesn’t make sense.

Obama’s supporters should stop blaming the Clintons for their candidate’s flaws and failures. Obama’s campaign is all about blaming and whining.
Also, Obama’s mother went to high school on Mercer Island in the Seattle area, which was then, and still is, a very ritzy place to live. Then to Hawaii (not bad), and little Obama never attended public school (only exclusive private school and colleges). Gramma was a VP at a bank. Why did they need food stamps?
Obama never worked for a thing, never took a chance (no legal publications, even though he was offered a professorship at University of Chicago, a book deal upon college graduation!). He’ll be our first affirmative-action president. The whole thing is such a travesty.
Bill Clinton is the opposite.

For all those who say I won’t be hypocrite after debating Obama’s weaknesses…
It’s time for a clearing of the decks so to speak…
whatever his weaknesses you perceive…
It comes down to exactly these three questions/statements…addressed in Joe Biden’s speech…
(and at this point if you think Biden is a blowhard you weren’t watching the guy’s life last night)
We need a wise leader not a good soldier.
Anyone who has been to question and answer sessions with both of these candidates McCain and Obama, knows how weel McCain does NOT do with any follow up questions. He is propped up for an election. Almost every other follow up is greeted with a joke or some tough 30 second sound bite you have heard a thousand times before. and if there is a third… the person who asked is cut off. Obama seriously tries to answer…and even if it is all for show…
and I have seen these guys over the past year and a half many times.
The next is “Has the last 8 years been good for you?”
As much as everyone wants to spin it saying “oh John mcCain is not George Bush” no…but his promises and his policies are almost EXACTLY the same.
So if 8 years has been good for you then go with the guy promising not to change that plan (he may say we are going to change…but look at the details…they are almost EXACTLY the same).
and lastly
“John McCain was right on the surge bringing down violence…that’s it.”
The only thing in foreign policy he has been right about…
but what he was wrong on and Obama was right on…is too much for this commentary… and as far as the surge goes…
the goal was political reconciliation so we could leave. That was the goal…the violence reduction was the tool.
That goal is still far far off… maybe decades away. That is why mcCain wanted to stay…but McCain doesn’t care about the tax it is taking on our wallets, doesn’t prioritize what it has done to our and would continue to do our military, and has no understanding of how that would continue to be a stick in the hornet’s nest of aculture’s he has clearly shown he has no understanding of…
If you needed to pound a nail into a wall… would you say it worked because the hammer hit the nail.
The goal of the surge was to have a safe and stable Iraq… the reduction of violence was the tool not the goal…
I think the selection is clear.

Bill Clinton did a great job with his speech! Joe Biden did a great job with his speech!
It’s now time to get down to business and take back the White House.
For those of you who won’t vote for Barack Obama because of the color of his skin, or you don’t like him, then don’t. It’s a free country.
Please remember, the primary was Hillary’s to win, and she didn’t. She took too much for granted. She didn’t keep her eyes on the prize because she thought she had already won it. She thought Barack Obama was a non-issue. But how quickly things changed.
Obama won the primary fair and square, and if some of you can’t figure that out, shame on you!
If Hillary supporters want to turn to McCain, if you are that stupid, go ahead ! You are the ones who will be complaining later.
It’s too bad that even Hillary’s words couldn’t change the minds of some of you diehards. You can’t see the forest for the trees! Common sense is not your strong suit.
Wake up America!

Hilarious. The Mutt and Jeff show is underway. And, Joe Biden loves John McCain and believes Obama lacks the experience and record of accomplishment to be president. Hilarious, I say, hilarious.

Posted by: Nat Turner | August 28, 2008, 9:25 am 9:25 am

Joe Biden is so plastic, you have to wonder what Obama was thinking when he selected him to be his vice-president.
Biden has 35 years in the U.S. Senate, which shows that he is not about change, but only on the ticket to counter Obama’s glaring inexperience.
The Democrats could have done a lot better than pairing a rookie U.S. Senator with a plastic politician.

rockthebleachers,
You seem to conveniently forget that Bill Clinton was impeached. You may blame Republicans for that but it was Bill’s recklessness that gave the Republicans something to pursue. I voted for Bill twice and am extremely upset with him for that reason. Hillary was just not extension of Bill..It was the Clintons’ embarassments that cost the Gore to lose the 2000 election. Clinton supporters have not faced that fact. Obama was right to position himself opposite of that. For the life of me I cannot understand why Hillary supporters, whom I presume consider themselves Democrats, would rather a Republican serve in the White House and kill all chance of moving forward their priorities than Obama who certainly would be open to them and possibly even beholden to them. If you are a Democrat you should support the Democratic nominee….otherwise leave the party….I am Independent who supports Obama….McCain is nothing more than a Bush clone and will beholden to the Conservative agenda if elected..He is not an Independent as evidenced by the way he is conducted campaign and the stances he has flip-flopped to…

Good management skills and character are excellent qualifiers for President. Barack Obama ran an efficient, well-managed (both financially and strategically) campaign. He has demonstrated strength of character and grace under tough questioning.
Senator Clinton is tough, but her campaign was perhaps one of the most poorly managed imaginable. She stuck with her cheatin’ man and even her daughter thinks Senator Clinton would make a better President than her dad (was).
John McCain cheated on his long-waiting, critically-injured wife, dumped her for a blond, wealthy hottie and can’t remember just how many homes he owns.
I’ll take Senator Obama. He’s smart, he’s efficient…and he has consistently honored his grandparents, his mother, his wife and his daughters. I choose character over cunning. I choose hope over the low road of questionable morality. And Harry Truman would agree.

Obama may win, just like Obama’s pal Deval Patrick in Massachusetts won as governor. Did you happen to notice that Massachusetts voted for Hillary in the primary? This is because we’re very unhappy with Deval, whose solution to everything is to legalize gambling, the most regressive form of tax. The people of Massachusetts learned the hard way that “yes we can” is a meaningless statement. Obama supporters: consider your options carefully.

I voted for Hillary Clinton in the primariws, and Pres. Clinton in 1992. I am sorry to see both of them buckle under the DNC.
I changed my party to independent and will never vote straight democratic again. So Bill and Hillary, thanks for not standing up to the real values but rather stoop to the level that the DNC, Obama and Nancy Pelosi that brought down the democratic party.
I will sit this out–this whole election is nothing but a joke. If McCain gives me reason to vote republican, I will do so–

Democrats are nominating the most radical major party candidate in history, whose thin record is relentlessly hard left, and whose rhetoric of change and hope cannot cover the fact that he has never worked across the aisle, has never sought to reform the deeply corrupt Chicago or Illinois political machines, and that he is hopelessly out of his depth on foreign policy and national security issues.

Garbage in, garbage out. I am amazed at their hypocrisy. Before the Clintons and Biden couldn’t say enough bad things about Obama. Now they have done a complete turnaround? Which is it? A few weeks ago they felt Obama was too wet behind the ears to take on the leadership of our country. But the real clincher is the fact that Obama picked a running mate who he admits has the experience he doesn’t have. That tells me they were right on the first go round. Does the democratic party really think they can construct a happy and peaceful society on the blood of the innocents, eroticism, the manipulation of human life and food sources, and other unmentionable practices they speak of so glibly and casually? Heath, education, social justice and the like are impossible to build without the structure of a strong family unit and the respect for the most basic value of human life. Roman civilization prevailed for 400 years, but they too lost sight of the most basic tenets of a moral society which caused their downfall.

Even with the 24-hour-a-day media fawning, McCain is even with Obama.
Even with all that cash, Obama can’t pull away.
He barely even won his own party’s nomination after losing 9 of the final 13 contests and the popular vote to Clinton.
Obama is a deeply flawed candidate. He’s a first-rate con man to be sure, but nothing close to presidential material.
When Michelle Obama complains that “Our souls are broken,” she is referring first and foremost to her husband. He’s empty. He stands for nothing.

Our votes were absolutely ignored. Why vote. Thanks alot Clinton. Why is it that politicans would rather fall in line with their party, than fall in line with the people.

Joe Biden’s son gave a tremendously moving intro for him. Joe Biden gave a very good speech, though you could tell he was a bit overwhelmed by the emotion of the moment. But Biden has a great story and is a very good man and also hit all the right notes. As someone said, he grounds the ticket!

I am a big Hillary supporter. I loved her speech yesterday and I love bill’s. It is hard to comend someone who beat you. I really wish Hillary could have made history as the first woman president, but it looks like women will have to wait again(black men got the right to vote before women), but as an african american female I am ready to help Obama make history.

All this PUMA stuff on here are just republican trolls trying to get on peoples nerves.

Forecast for Denver…..
A beautiful 80 degree day with clear skies throughout.
PUMA KITTY “Evangelist” who prayed for rain has been sorely disappointed.
Does that mean God wants to hear what Obama has to say?
I know all of PUMA Kitties will be tuning in for hear what the future POTUS has to say.
It’s funny. He’s the one they love to hate. Keep up the gimmicks.
OBAMA needs good laughs.
OBAMA/BIDEN – ITS A LOCK!

As a big Hillary supporter, I loved her speeh tuesday and bill’s was wonderful. I would have loved to see Hillary make history as the first woman president but it looks like women will have to wait again(black men got the right to vote before women), but as an african american female I now feel I am ready to help Obama make history.

Well,
I think with Biden next Obama, i can sleep safe at home.
Obama alone is not enough, but one thing i can be sure is that Obama is a good listener and has sound judgment. that is very important as a leader which Bush and Maccain lack for sure.

Bill and Hillary both “endorse” Obama, but who do you think they really want to win so Hillary can run again in 2012?

We see in the speeches what we want to see. But a caution, don’t let others do your thinking. Each of the speakers have an agenda and it may not be your’s. Obama selected the speakers and approved their words in advance. What do we expect them to say.
Not one speaker is allowed on that dais that disagrees publicly with Obama.
Again we need to do our own research, listen to and “read” Obama.

The Clinton’s have always been great speakers, they have to unite the party or they might as well as hand McCain The White House. Sometimes I feel the media, and the attack ads insult our intelligence. Now were talking about experience for the job, that wasn’t a issue during the primaries, if that were the case the public would have voted that way then, and the democratic ticket would say BIDEN/OBAMA instead. Everyone knows Joe was the most qualified for the job.

Obama lacks experience but has experienced partner,Biden.
On the other hand, Maccain lacks judgment which is more crucial element a leader should have.
If you have intelligence, whom do you want to choose?

rockthebleachers,
Vote for who you like or dislike…just don’t consider yourself a Democrat if you vote Republican. You’re being dishonest with yourself. McCain offers nothing for Democrats.
