Romney probably would have been a better choice, but this may play to the female vote.

McCAIN/PALIN ’08……….

Go McCain!
Go Palin!

TOO BAD SHE IS NOT PRO-CHOICE WHICH IS THE WOMEN OF THE DEMOCRAT PARTY BASE,
THIS IS A INSULT TO USE HER AS A FIGURE HEAD , ITS ABOUT ISSUES. THIS WAS A DESPERATE PICK. AND DESPERATE PICK IS NEVER THERE ON MERIT.
SHE IS NO HILLARY CAUSE SHE IS NOT A DEMOCRAT.
the courts means more than a figure head.

I think Romney would have been a better choice too. How will she stand up against Biden? I think this was a bad choice.
It play onto the conservative base but what about the Independent base?
Wrong choice. You can’t criticize Obama for lack of experince and then turn your back and chose a VP with even less experience. I honestly don’t know what McCain was thinking.

Posted by: David | August 29, 2008, 1:55 pm 1:55 pm

tell me that he did not HUG her at the end of her speech?

Posted by: DAVID | August 29, 2008, 1:55 pm 1:55 pm

I think McCain just made a home run!
I love his choice!

Posted by: SB Wisconsin | August 29, 2008, 1:57 pm 1:57 pm

the republicans are very sick people they will exploit this woman
they will try to use this to get hillary womens voters , one thing they forget hillary women are dead strong pro-choice , and the democrat party is the only party that have issue to help women and kids ,
president bush just the other day VETO a kids healthcare bill.

Her legislative record in Alaska is really one of confident, decisive, no holes barred reform. Her tenure may be short but she has done more real hands on work than Obama. His campaign should not go down the ‘she’s inexperienced’ route. I think McCain is not only trying to appeal to women voters but to working class voters as well and she’s very knowledgeable about energy issues at a time of real need. Should be interesting.

Obama already has stated Sarah Palin has no foreign experience. Let’s see—let’s compare. Obama lived as a child in Indonesia (8 years old) and took one trip to Kenya while in college. Oh yes, he flew over there a month ago for a photo opts and shaking hands. Sarah Palin is GOVERNOR of a state which is surrounded by foreign nations. We could put her on a plane Obama to fly over to Europe for photo opts? Sarah is truthful and straightforward a very “refreshing” choice for America.

McCain just handed Obama the keys to the white house. Big Disappointment.

Posted by: David | August 29, 2008, 2:10 pm 2:10 pm

Palin was picked for her foreign policy experience, at least McCain thinks Alaska is foreign

Posted by: JC | August 29, 2008, 2:13 pm 2:13 pm

Interesting timing on the pick. It seems McCain is trying to steal the spotlight from the great Obama speech yesterday. McCain is a crafty politician. I will give him that.

Posted by: Ben Straub | August 29, 2008, 2:16 pm 2:16 pm

If McCain picked Romney he would have carried Utah. Now he may carry no states. Alaska however is now anybody’s bet.

“Her legislative record in Alaska is really one of confident, decisive, no holes barred reform”
Yeah, no OIL drilling holes barred, she’s deep in the oil industry pocket, even her husband works for the oil industry.

McCAIN and PALIN ’08 will win. I love this ticket and it will remind voters that OMAHA did not select a women because of his insecurities. McCAIN’s pick brings an energy and passion to the ticket. I will vote for McCAIN and Palin. They both are winners!!! Join the Cause!!!

Posted by: Mark | August 29, 2008, 2:22 pm 2:22 pm

uhmmmm… I have been reading several blogs. trying to get a fix on the Republicans and how they feel out this VP pick… LOL I actually am loving it.
Here are two good examples of several I have been reading… they all are about the same tone and choice of words…
August 29th, 2008 12:03 pm ET
I am a true republican. HAVE HE LOST HIS MIND. No one is going to vote for her just because she is a woman. The Hillary Supporters know better than that. This woman has no experience at all. I am ashamed to say that I am a republican because of this. Biden will crush her. She has no experience in politics period. What the helllll McCain. Now you are really giving the Dems ammo. Does he really think a man would want a woman to run this country if she has no political experience. I am a woman and I would not want a woman to be president if he died and did not have no military knowlege or political experience in any attempt to be head of our military. My GOSH McCain. your have disappointmed me and many other women that are Republicans. This woman’s husband is big in the oil business. This also give the Dems ammo too. Geeeesh MAN. You have just lost my vote.
Number 2:
This was absolutely a poor choice. Sen. McCain – what are you thinking… this is clearly a defensive decision and truly re-actionary.
I’m sorry… You needed more balance on the ticket. No disrespect to Gov. Palin, but who is she… She only has two years of experience. She’s not ready to be Commander in Chief.
Your best argument against Sen. Obama was his not being ready… You negated your argument, and if most of the country being concerned about your age and health… This selection was NOT a good decision… This is an example of your poor judgment…
I can’t support this ticket…

Wonder what all those angry PUMAS from the Dem. side will do now? With two notable exceptions, presidents usually get two terms. So if McCain serves 8 years, then Hillary would face a sitting VP for president in 2016. I’ll bet the PUMAS have their little panties in a knot now!

Posted by: DublBogey | August 29, 2008, 2:25 pm 2:25 pm

Mark – No thanks, I can’t join the cause for more belligerence towards other nations. I am not voting for Obama or McCain, but I can bet this election will be very one-sided in Obama’s favor.

Posted by: Ben Straub | August 29, 2008, 2:27 pm 2:27 pm

PTA? Sounds like a local election to me

Posted by: Thinking | August 29, 2008, 2:31 pm 2:31 pm

Huh – put down the pipe. Utah will not go for a Democrat. That’s just ridiculous. I am unsure about the pick but listening to her speech, it was sure funny to me as an HRC supporter hearing them go after me as a voter.

Posted by: Tony | August 29, 2008, 2:32 pm 2:32 pm

I did not think it was possible but McCain found someone who is a worse public speaker then himself.

Posted by: jen | August 29, 2008, 2:35 pm 2:35 pm

Tony – just trying some comic relief. You are probably right about Utah. Ok so McCain has two states.

Posted by: Huh | August 29, 2008, 2:37 pm 2:37 pm

Go Sarah!!

Posted by: brigitte | August 29, 2008, 2:38 pm 2:38 pm

Beck – you are clearly looking for negative republican responses. Some have been positive. I agree that it’s stupid to think that Clinton supporters just want “a” woman. We are mad because the most talented woman in the country was stigmatized and demonized by her party. Palin cannot undo this. I am not voting for Obama, but Palin cannot lead me to McCain.

Posted by: Tony | August 29, 2008, 2:39 pm 2:39 pm

McCain is a crafty one. Keeping the VP suspense going throught the dem convention, and then announcing the pick right after the Obama speech. What a crafty dude.

Posted by: Huh | August 29, 2008, 2:39 pm 2:39 pm

Huh – I’m not sure how old you are, but unfortunately, people thought that Dan Quayle would cost Bush I the election. They also said that Senator Bensen would crush him in the debates (which he did). But Bush still won. Never underestimate the conservative impulse in this country. Also, the Obama fame movement shows that people want stardome. He’s a relatively unknown person running at the top of a ticket. At least she’s second. I am truly scared of both Obama and Palin.

Posted by: Tony | August 29, 2008, 2:41 pm 2:41 pm

WHAT A GREAT CHOICE…….
COUNTRY FIRST………
AMERICANS NEVER SURRENDER……
McCAIN/PALIN ’08
U.S.A U.S.A U.S.A U.S.A

Posted by: NICHOLAS | August 29, 2008, 2:45 pm 2:45 pm

I finally get to vote for McCain and a women and Joe Biden all in one election!!! yippeeee!

Posted by: Kitty | August 29, 2008, 2:46 pm 2:46 pm

This is who is ready to stare down the Russians and Terrorists in a heartbeats notice? JOHN McCAIN’S HEARTBEAT NOT TO MENTION!!! I’m sure ex KGB offical, Vladimir Putin is shaking in his boots. And, I think it’s a little absurd to say to that McCain was thinking if that Palin is just as experienced as Obama to highlight his opinion that Obama is not experienced enough. You don’t make your ticket SUCK really, really badly in hopes of pointing out a weakness that may or may not resonate with voters. This is the pick that lost McCain the experience argument and thus lost him the election.

Posted by: Anthony | August 29, 2008, 2:47 pm 2:47 pm

Maybe she can use her “assets” to persuade world leaders on issues like Iraq, Iran, China, North Korea to make up for her complete lack of foreign policy experience.
A woman? Fine! but how about some one with some experience? Like…any…would do at this point.

Posted by: Joe | August 29, 2008, 2:51 pm 2:51 pm

Come on! You know you want to! Join the Cause!!! McCAIN and Sarah just feels right to me. It is true. As McCain said, he needed her. He could have selected a conservative African American woman and that would have really been hilarious to see how the other side perceived that. However, McCain and Palin are just a winning combination to me and many others. They will WIN and we will have America’s first female Vice President! I kind of feel sorry for Omaha though. His wife may be kicking him right now because he did not pick Hillary. Such is politics. This ticket brings me hope. God Bless America!

Posted by: Mark | August 29, 2008, 2:53 pm 2:53 pm

Sarah Palin is a crackling lightning bolt that just changed the face of the entire election. Anybody who thinks that she’s not going to make a huge difference is just whistling past the graveyard!

Posted by: Mike O | August 29, 2008, 2:54 pm 2:54 pm

This ticket brings me hope too Mark…hope that if by some chance that McCain wins after this horrible pick…hope that he doesn’t die.

Posted by: Anthony | August 29, 2008, 2:55 pm 2:55 pm

Mike O, Sarah Palin is a crackling lightning bolt that just changed the face of the entire election.
You’re right. She did. Before McCain had some momentum…now he has lost that.

Posted by: Anthony | August 29, 2008, 2:59 pm 2:59 pm

In that case, we will have our first female U.S. President that is real and straightforward. Leadership can be learned and there are many women that are strong leaders like Sarah. Time will tell and this is the first time I felt excited about politics in a long time.

A floor fight just might do our Grand Ole Party good. It can’t hurt at this point!

Posted by: Mike from Texas | August 29, 2008, 3:37 pm 3:37 pm

What a GREAT pick!! A female Ted Nugent!! A Washington outsider! A brilliant Mother of 5 who is not afraid to fight corruption! Pro-life, Pro-gun, Pro-Christian, Pro-drill ANWR, hunts, fishes, with an 80% approval rating as the Gov. of Alaska!
Go McCain/Palin!!!

Posted by: Texas Tuff | August 29, 2008, 4:08 pm 4:08 pm

When your supporters reference your “Miss Congenitality” title as a political qualification, you are not ready to become president. People note that Obama cannot attack Palin’s lack of experience. He doesn’t need to. The point is that attacking Obama’s lack of experience was a major theme of McCain’s campaign strategy. Now it is completely off the table. Palin’s lack of experience pretty much precludes her from the traditional attack-dog role of the VP candidate. I just don’t see how this will help McCain. Start watching for senior campaign staffers jumping ship.

Some of you need a geography lesson. The only border we share with the soviet union is in…drum roll….Alaska. She’s been guarding the border faithfully since she became governor of Alaska.
She has more way more foreign policy experience than Obama, unless you count his time in the mosque in Indonesia.

Posted by: midwestlady | August 29, 2008, 6:45 pm 6:45 pm

Somebody up there said Utah would go Democrat???? I’m laughing my rear end off. When pigs fly Utah will vote Democratic.

Posted by: midwestlady | August 29, 2008, 6:50 pm 6:50 pm

I am so embarrassed by McCain’s choice.
The “old man” and the “beauty queen.”
Does he think we women are stupid? He is completely out of touch with America.
Creationism, pro-life even in the case
of rape and incest, anti-gay rights — is she Jerry Falwell’s protege?
Obama-Biden all the way — this has clinched the election for the Dems.

10 years from now americans will relize what the BUSH’s did for this country, we should be glad that this country is safe thanks to the republicans.
god bless america, god bless the republican party
