Obama Camp on Pawlenty: Bring It On

ABC News’ Teddy Davis reports: The Obama campaign signaled a willingness on Thursday to go after Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, R-Minn., for the 2007 Minneapolis bridge collapse, while saying that the populist argument it is building against Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., will continue, even if the presumptive Republican presidential nominee taps the son of a truck driver as his running mate.

"I don’t think it’s particularly relevant who the running mate is if the running mate is willing to embrace, in total, the Bush-McCain economic doctrine," Obama strategist David Axelrod told ABC News.

"Every day, Americans understand that those policies aren’t working for them," he continued. "And if you have one more person out there saying we’ve made ‘great progress’ on our economy and that we ought to continue doing what we’re doing, I’d be eager to have him travel far and wide. I think it’s a losing message."

"Whoever he picks, it doesn’t change the fact that it’s John McCain’s agenda on the ballot," added David Plouffe. The Obama campaign manager joined Axelrod at a breakfast with reporters in Denver, which was held on the same day that Obama is set to deliver a speech accepting the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination.

Some GOP strategists have speculated in private about whether Pawlenty’s odds of becoming McCain’s running mate improved vis-a-vis Mitt Romney, in the wake of the Arizona senator’s seeming inability to tell Politico how many houses he owns.

Romney, a former Massachusetts governor who ran against McCain for the Republican presidential nod, is a multimillionaire with four houses to his name.

Trying to undermine Romney in advance of a possible vice presidential announcement, the Obama campaign has been steadily painting him as an "expert" on "Cayman Island tax shelters."

"You couldn’t have a more out of touch ticket," Plouffe recently told The Atlantic magazine.

Pawlenty, by contrast, owns only one house.

He recently told ABC’s Jan Crawford Greenburg that he owns a $335,000 suburban home outside Minneapolis, and was quick to note that he still pays the mortgage and cuts his own grass.

Obama adviser Robert Gibbs acknowledged that a Pawlenty pick would leave the Democrats with less populist ammunition than a Romney selection. Gibbs was quick to add, however, that there is a "treasure trove" of other issues that can be used against Pawlenty, including the 2007 Minneapolis bridge collapse which killed 13.

"Each of these guys have their own thing," Gibbs told ABC News. "It would be nice to talk about Romney’s stuff. But just because McCain picks a guy with only one house doesn’t mean that we’re going to stop talking about McCain’s seven houses."

“He recently told ABC’s Jan Crawford Greenburg that he owns a $335,000 suburban home outside Minneapolis and was quick to note that he still pays the mortgage and cuts his own grass.”
So he bought a house that he could afford instead of opting for the indicted slumlord financing?

it is a sure sign of desperation that all the Obama campaign can do is dwell and dwell on this silly house issue, when there is really nothing left for them to attack. You know what? Nobody cares. Not only are Obama and Biden clearly rich and elitists, but do recall that the Kennedy’s are the epitome of elitist and wealth, and FDR, one of our greatest Presidents, comes from a hugely wealthy ancestry.
It’s not an issue. At all.

On average, the Republican ticket would still have 4 houses per candidate, as comapared to the Democratic ticket with 1.
On average.

Nothing left on McCain to attack? Keating Five? Cheating on his first wife then leaving her for the rich beer heiress? Lobbyists up to his neck? McCain’s mental instability?
Do you want McCain’s problems alphabetically or chronologically?

Mack, you should do some research on that “slum-lord financing.” Let me know what you turn up.

Posted by: Billy | August 28, 2008, 2:19 pm 2:19 pm

Ugh. Why can’t the Obama campaign, media, et al, wait to start the attacks on McCain’s VP until the VP is actually announced?
How stupid will it look if the person being attacked is not in the end McCain’s VP pick?

Posted by: None of the Above 08 | August 28, 2008, 2:19 pm 2:19 pm

Isn’t the bridge collapse just a little low, even for the Obama campaign?!

Posted by: samhiguchi | August 28, 2008, 2:19 pm 2:19 pm

I was a POW and if weren’t for the fact that I was a POW, I would have a lot more issues that I could dwell and dwell on. But I was a POW, so that explains that.
What was the question again?
BTW: Did I mention that I was a POW?

Francisco and et al,
The GOP campaign managers have brought this upon themselves. McCain is the one who started slinging the mud. Go back and look at the ads and timing!

Posted by: art | August 28, 2008, 2:21 pm 2:21 pm

She I bet he has a lot of foreign policy experience? Will McCain point that out. Other question – does he know how to use a computer and do any Republicans know how or do they all use their “staff” for e-mail?

But decentAmerican misses the point entirely. The issue isn’t being wealthy, the issue is being wealthy and using that as an excuse not to recognize that jobs for real Americans are disappearing and poverty is increasing. The Kennedys and Roosevelts were wealthy and geared their public lives around giving something back to the less fortunate.

You wish.
The Republicans have been attacking Democrats on the basis of “symbolism” – like flag pins and expensive haircuts – for TWENTY FIVE YEARS.
Obama is the first Democrat to recognize the effective of the tactic, and stuff it back down your right-wing throats.

In regards to the republican VP candidate, I will quote The Rock;
“It doesn’t matter what your name is!!!”

samhiguchi asks:
“Isn’t the bridge collapse just a little low, even for the Obama campaign?!”
Not nearly as low the continual nonsense about Rezko from the McCainites. I think Obama has shown astonishing restraint not to point out Keating.
How come McCain supporters never talk about McCain, by the way? He seems to be just a bland stand-in for “Not Obama”.

It’s Obama that is out of touch. The price of gas is what is hurting the economy. It causes the price of everything else to go up. 98% of the oil we use goes to transportation fuels and I don’t see every american runnning out and buying a new Hybrid or electric car in the next 4 years. So we have to bring the price down by increasing the supply of oil….end of story.

Apparently “realist2008″ thinks that making a speech to countries around the world means the candidate thinks he is going to rule the world. What about repairing the Nation’s foreign relations that have been crippled due to a war that was illegal? What about rebuilding allies that we need in a time when power houses like Russia could strike us with the touch of a button. These are real threats that need to be addressed. Or we can count on policies that address cursory threats that were more a campaign of fear to put profits in the pockets of people who own 7 houses; not to mention destroy our reputation globally. Maybe it isn’t a bad idea to start talking to these people?

Posted by: noah | August 28, 2008, 2:32 pm 2:32 pm

Pawlenty has some minuses. Remember the I-35W Mississippi River Bridge Collapse happened under his watch. Pawlenty’s tax policies were blamed as part of the cause of the collapse by Mayor James Hovland of affluent Edina He also defended Carol Molnau, the transportation commissioner who has been blamed by some for the collapse. Also, he initially supported but later disapproved of the importation of less-expensive prescription drugs from Canada to be used with the state’s MinnesotaCare health plan, and also as a means to band together with other states and negotiate lower drug prices. Many Minnesota residents traveled to Canada, as well, to get prescriptions filled and the governor was supportive of their efforts to save money. However, the U.S. government put pressure on Canada to cease these practices and banned the importation of drugs from Canada in 2006. Finally, opponents of illegal immigration may want to think twice before supporting a man who announced a program for reforming the way Minnesota deals with persons who are in the United States illegally.

And how do you propose to do that? Drilling offshore? That will add less than 2% to the world supply. That’s the equivilant of adding a quart of cold water to a hot bathtub to cool it down (in 7-10 years from now).
Oil (unlike electricity) is a global commodity. The price you pay has nothing to do with where it was pumped. The ONLY way to reduce our dependance on foreign oil is to reduce our dependance on oil.

If Bush, Cheney, Rove, McCain and crew was not so busy for the last 8 years bankrupting this nation’s Treasury spending $10 Billion dollars per month in IRAQ we might have had a little money to invest in American infrastructure, which is falling apart. But then you see that money would have gone to construction workers, engineers, contractors, school districts, small towns and all the people who usually vote Democratic.

I don’t really care how many houses McCain owns–because every one of these candidates is far richer than me.
It’s like comparing Warren Buffett’s wealth to Bill Gates’ wealth–while I work at Wal-Mart.
Having said that, I do care about whether a candidate’s POLICIES benefit the nation and benefit the middle-class of the nation. I do like McCain’s foreign policy (we should kick Russia’s butt again like Reagan did once before). But I think Obama has a better handle on domestic economic policy. That makes the decision as to whom to vote for this year very difficult.
It’s a choice between a San Francisco pacifist versus a Reaganaut who thinks the economy is still in the 1970s.

John McCain should have just answered the question about the number of houses he owned instead of saying he’d have to check with his “staff.” McCain has never had a real job. He was born with silver spoon. Was a extremely poor student in college. Got by because of his daddy and uncle. Dumped his devoted 1st wife for a prescription drug popping beer heiress and a ticket to Washington. Spent years upon years as THE ORIGINAL DC CELEBRITY. Then abrubtly shed his maverick aura and flipped flopped like a fish out of water for pure political gain. Then climbed into bed with the bat guano crazy far right and Karl Rove. Not a pretty picture for John McCain. Sorry republicans, you had your chance and blew it. When you finally find something worth voting for let us all know.

For the 6 years that the Republicans had George Bush as president and a majority of the Senate, and 4 years a majority in the House, the US has suffered incredibly. Economy, security, energy, deficit, environment, inflation, housing and world-wide prestige, just to name a few. Oh and the debacle in Iraq too.
And now half the country is thinking of electing another Republican as president? How sad indeed.

Realist2008,
I’m not American… but the choice that you people make in the upcoming election affects the rest of the world… Not just Americans as you clearly believe.
Comments like yours give the rest of us the impression that you are full of it.
The fact that Obama got 200 000 people to the Germany talk is only a small representation of the massive support that he has overseas (vs McCain’s Harleys).
A president that can relate to the rest of the world is a very real asset to the Americans (especially now). Whether you choose to believe it or not… I do not know a single person (outside the US) that likes bush, or would support McCain if given the opportunity.
This is not an attack on republicans, or Americans. I have spent a lot of time in New York, and love the people… Unfortunately people like you (Realist2008) just don’t know when you have the opportunity to make something right. Wake up! Don’t you want to be liked overseas?

By the way, I feel the same way about John McCain bringing up being a POW. Equal opportunity sickness here.
Why is no one talking about the thuggery of the Obama campaign, however, in going after Stanley Kurtz in Chicago (on WGN radio last night), trying to disrupt the show by sending out an email blast and offering detailed instructions on the time, phone number, etc? Doesn’t that strike anyone else as curtailing free speech? Just our friendly, open Obama — you know, the constitutionallaw lecturer. Maybe he should have listened to himself.

Ugh. I would like to hear substance from Obama at this point and the number of houses that McCain owns is a NON-issue.
Actually, it only tells me that McCain is not obsessed w/ownership and his own finances. He knows he has more than enough and Obama who lives in a mansion himself should shut up. And while he’s at it, help his impoverished relatives.
What really matters is who is going to help the people who ARE struggling? Obama is in the better party that cares about the poor but I haven’t heard him talk about it with any of the weight that Hillary or Joe Biden have.
This housing thing might be entertaining to people who already love Obama but it’s not going to fly with those of us seriously confused by this baffling choice of candidates.

Posted by: sarah | August 28, 2008, 3:16 pm 3:16 pm

Again… its not that he owns 7 or 8 or 9, or 12 houses that is the issue with McCain… Its that he can’t remember how many! He’s OUT OF TOUCH! Seriously, who the hell doesn’t know these things?
As far as the Rezko crap.. Can someone please explain what he did wrong? As I understand it & have read through many news outlets is that Obama bought a house at MARKET VALUE & Rezko bought the adjacent vacant parcel that the Obamas didn’t want… He then paid market value for a portion of that parcel before Rezko sold the remained of the vacant parcel at market value… I can’t find the “special favor” in this situation.. Seems like a relatively normal transaction actually…
Also, it really seems to me that a lot of you McSame supporters need to do some homework. I have yet to find a message board where a McCain supporter is actually supporting McCain… It’s all Obama bashing. Sorry people, Dubya screwed up this country too bad for that crap to work this time. Get used to saying President Barak Obama… You’ll be hearing it a lot for the next 8 years after the way Republicans have run the country for the last 8.

After reading some of the same points over and over in blogs, I just have to comment on 3 points….
You people making fun of McCain’s age are so mean and childish, but then again that has been typical of many Obama supporters even through the primaries. I wonder if you will feel differently when you are 72…Believe it or not, there are a lot of smart people who still have a lot to contribute when they are 72, 82 and even 92.
The house “issue” is just plain stupid. Wonder how many houses the Kennedy’s and Obama’s Washington insider buddies own? Wonder how many Rezko owns? Gee, let’s find out how many cars, boats, dogs, etc. Who even cares! Those things aren’t going to determine my vote. I’m sick of Obama’s smokescreens. When he isn’t giving lofty speeches written by other people, he tries to distract from his lack of a real record or substance by throwing out stupid tidbits for the more than willing Obama loving media to pursue. Everyone isn’t as stupid as his campaign would like to believe, and can see through his campaign’s manipulation of people who are easily led.
For those who think Pawlenty is too young, if he is the VP pick, this would actually be the right way to gain national experience. Serving under a President with national experience as a VP, which is what Obama SHOULD have done, would allow that VP to develop his/her national credentials. Sen. Obama’s ego was too big though for him to actually wait and gain any of that unneeded and useless experience. HOpefully, if he is elected, he will make a better President than he did our Senator here in IL.

Obama your own personal Messiah for the left-wing nuts (WHY DO YOU HATE AMERICANS?) Gotta love a guy who makes campaign speeches to the Europeans since he thinks(WATCH ME, I AM A TELEPATH) he’s going to be Ruler of the World if elected. What an egotistical empty suit. All McCain knows is that he know longer lives in a hole and is no longer being tortured. After that, I wouldn’t care how many houses I owned either. It’s his wife’s thing not his, and it DOESN’T mean he’s out of touch.
Let’s talk about policy instead of playing these ridiculous games. Who is really going to help the poor and HOW????? I would like Obama to explain his plans.

Anyone voting for Barack Obama is ill-informed, stupid or expects freebies from his socialist agenda. Take from the rich, small businesses and give to the irresponsible and lazy is a socialist program.
Obama is against drilling for more oil and gas but believe that wind turbines, solar cells and bio-fuels with at least 30% increase in cost is better. How insane. We have lots of gas and coal for energy use. And it has been the Democrats against drilling and new refineries for the last 25 years which has caused our current problem.

If after all these years in the Senate Biden’s net worth is ONLY ~$150,000 this guy should be nowhere near any ECONOMIC DECISION. 150k after 30+ years on a SENATE salary (with fully paid perks) is not a badge of honor but a DISGRACE.
People with far lower salaries have saved up much more in that timeframe.

When do the DEMS mention that McCain committed a crime when he pushed the neo-con agenda on letterman to get the USA to go to war against IRAQ based on false propaganda? He said he has a SOURCE who knew it was the IRAQI’s who did the anthrax attack against NBC and two liberal Congressmen.
Apparently that IRAQI story was all speculation, mere lies to lead us to war. To do so is a crime against the state, a federal crime. That’s Mccain, a pusher for the fear drug for Bush.

Noothing wil help McCain. His VP pick will either alienate the Religious Wrong, or offend the swing voter who kinda admires what McCain has achieved in his life.
See, the baggage McCain is dragging is the Republican Party. People with ethics and sense are departing for the time being, taking a holiday from politics. I doubt if we will see Colin Powell or Condi Rice on the ticket, because they can recognize a fast sinking ship.
Meanwhile, the Republicans worst nightmare is manifesting. The Democrats are united, and inspired. Tonight, Obama will give a speech that will resonate around the world, linked with Martin Luther King’s “I have a dream” speech for all time.
And the polls? the Dems are about to open up a big lead. McCain has been Swift Boating, while Obama has taken the high ground, and stayed on the issues, without pre-empting presidential prerogatives (Georgia, anyone? :) ) And McCain, while principled, has a big mouth and shoots from the hip. Bad mistake while people are taking notes for the final six weeks of campaign advertising.
Kiss your butt goodbye, McC. You have been allowed to stay up with the front runners. Now you are just going to sound raucous and old as we enter the final laps.

Posted by: Westacan | August 28, 2008, 4:05 pm 4:05 pm

Let’s see. If the Obama campaign collects the kind of opposition research that the McCain campaign uses, then it’s low. If it doesn’t, it’s naive and not tough enough.
McCain’s campaign has been flinging every bit of mud it can find, and making stuff up when it can’t find mud. It’s a shame Obama has to fight the same way. But Obama is a smart guy who learned a lot from the slime war against John Kerry–and obviously, he’s a fighter. He’ll be a great fighter when he’s president, too.

It saddens me to see how so many people are worked up like jr high school students at a pep rally. Net worth vs. Net worth. House vs. house. They are both figureheads bought and paid for by the two party structure. Matters not republican or democrat. Our government works by passibg bills and legislation. In all but the rarest of cases, these bills and items of legislation are introduced by people with more money and “interests” than anyone posting on this board. All your voting for is a name. In the end, its the money that controls what actually happens. And the people with the real money in this country, and world, arent on the ballots any more. Wake up people. Its the system thats broken, not every specific individual.

Posted by: truthman01 | August 28, 2008, 4:11 pm 4:11 pm

no matter what, you all need to quit looking at the cracks in the pavement directly in front of you and start looking at the big picture. If we, as the purveyors of freedom, allow the world to turn into fascist state, then what good is that freedom? There is a reason that the people of mexico are crashing the southern borders of our nation; they truly know what poverty is, and they are willing to risk capture, detention, and deportation to put that behind them. As an 11th generation American , surely I don’t approve of it, but I recognize there logic. Likewise, I will be the first to admit, I’m angry that my world is not all peaches and cream. Yet I can now look back on the early 90′s when I only had a budget of $12.50 a week for groceries and rejoice that i’m not making $13000.00 a year any longer. Now I make considerably more than what i was making back then. But my success had absolutely nothing to do with who was in office or what the economy was like . . . in fact if that were the case . . . I’d blame everything on the Clinton administration; but we all now our nation prospered during the 90′s. My success was brought on by hard work and the money from the G.I. bill I earned. That’s right folks, I worked hard and sacrificed to get where I’m at. I suspect many of the people complaining about their lot in life are from younger people who haven’t had time to make their way in life. Its obvious when I read comments like, “McCain is Dumb” in a post, and that is there only comment that it came from someone inmature and uninformed. Either way you shake it, we are gonna be alright. Thats why our forefathers set up our government with a set of checks and balances; it was done to prevent one part from gaining too much power . . . believe it or not even George Bush has his limitations on what he can do. There are 535 people he must consult before he does anything. So blaming the war on GW and the republicans is plain old ludicrous; the democrats voted too. Likewise, they vted on the budget that allowed the war to continue. It’s not as though the republicans overpowered the democrats. As for McCains houses, can we really judge a man on what his wife owns? Both of these guys have skeletons in their closets; everybody does, even the Pope.
My point is stop all the hatin’; it only makes us the savages others claim we are. I bet people in other nations get a kick out of watching us at election time.

Posted by: avgjoepolitico | August 28, 2008, 4:15 pm 4:15 pm

The Democrats don’t seem to be no better than the Republicans… Shame on them to say “same old politics of mudslinging” while they shamelessly, I repeat, shamelessly do the same thing that the Republicans do.
Look, no one can do worse than Bush. So either Obama or McCain will do better than Bush.

“me thinks thou dost protest too much”
“the wisest of minds is that which admits, even with the most advanced formal education, that it still has everything to learn.”
We are all entitled to our own opinions, and we are all basically right. The truth is, there are as many perspectives as there are people, all are valid when they form a perception.
Surely no one will argue that all these generalizations about each other are sincere? You dont really think that rednecks are stupid? or that being a republican makes you instantly a liar?
Its the use of name calling and generalizations that puts your ignorance on display for everyone, when before it was just assumed.

Only one thing wrong with your explanation of the $4.00 gal gas. It isn’t driven by shortages it is speculation in oil futures mostly by hedge funds. And guess who voted against any effort to regulate that speculation. McCain.. Besides it is the fact that we buy 70% of our oil from countries that hate us and we cannot replace that 70% no matter where we drill. It is finally time for us to replace oil with renewable energy. Nothing has changed in the last four years.
BUSH could run against Obama and beat him!

The “treasure trove” of Biden issues is just as long as Pawlenty’s or anyone else’s.
For example, how about Biden’s support of the changes made to the bankruptcy bill of 2005.
O’Biden has received plenty of money from credit card companies who wanted the bankruptcy laws changed to favor business over individuals.
Joe Biden has been part of the Washington machine that Obama has promised to “change” since John McCain was a POW in Viet Nam.
Obama/Biden…Change they can deceive in…

empty suit = stagflation. Anyone remember that? Try reading your history books. Mr. Hope/Change has the same economic philosophy as the peanut farmer did. (read Obama’s ecomonic policy outlay and compare that to Mr. Carter’s… look familiar?)
For those who think the economy is in the toilet, try looking at real economic data. The economy certainly isn’t as bad as BJ Bill babbled on about or as bad as the left-wing media has painted it to be. And I love how the libs talk about the “Rich Republicans”. How is it the Warren Buffets ($62 billion) and the Bill Gates ($58 billion) of the world are Democrats?? Or how about all the big-money Hollywood types? Hmmm…. makes you wonder, huh? sorta like Al Gore telling us to ride our bikes when he lives in a 20 room mansion in TN that uses as much power as 230 average homes… I guess when you are a rich liberal you can exploit the less fortunate and buy your carbon credits… must be nice. Where has Mr. Green-Jeans been, anyway?? Are the Dems hiding him away?
Here is some data for you to look over and learn something about where average income has gone. The Census Bureau just released its annual report that includes real, median household income for 2007 ($50,233) This was the third annual increase in real median household income. Compared with 1967, the first year for which household income statistics are available, real median household income has increased 29.6%. (source: Census Bureau). And let’s not use the “rich got richer, and the poor got poorer” argument. On average, those who either call themselves Democrats or give to Democrat candidates or DNC or other Democrat causes are wealthier than those who call themselves Repbulicans or give to RNC or other Republican causes. Obama’s Change is gonna be a lot different than the change Obama is trying to sell to voters. He is a socialist/communist/Marxist and lacks integrity, judgment and experience. Here comes the 1930 depression economy with the help of the GREAT OBAMA. YES, WE CAN CHANGE TO A THIRD WORLD COUNTRY. His 143 days of experience as an elected senator is not enough. POOR, POOR. SAD USA IF Obama is elected.

OBAMA, THE GREAT CON MAN made a speech. He is gonna fix everything and make south Chicago and rural Arkansas places of paradise if only he is voted into office as president. I want a statesman, not a con-man, not as rock star, not a circus clown in the White House. The whole speech was just a repeat of his bogus promises he has made the last year. He is just a corrupt candidate from very corrupt Chicago and its political machine.

wow – the same old stuff in a fireworks display. And is Obama REALLY going to unify Washington? His voting record (when he voted) was in line 96% of the time w/ the Dems…

Stanley Kurtz’s Fairness Doctrine Preview [Guy Benson]
Stanley Kurtz’s appearance on the Milt Rosenberg radio program in Chicago last night provided an unsettling look into the authoritarian tactics being employed by the Obama campaign to stifle and intimidate its critics.
I happened to be in the WGN studios for the entire affair because my friend, Zack Christenson, produces the show in question. He was aware of my previous reporting on the Obama-Ayers connection and kindly invited me to sit in on the two-hour interview. (For full disclosure, I work for two other radio stations in Chicago, WIND, and WYLL).
As I arrived at the downtown Chicago studios a few hours before show time, the phones began ringing off the hook with irate callers demanding Kurtz be axed from the program. It didn’t take long to discover that the Obama campaign—which had declined invitations to join the show for its duration to offer rebuttals to Kurtz’s points—had sent an “Obama Action Wire” e-mail to its supporters, encouraging them to deluge the station with complaints.
Why? Because, naturally, Kurtz is a “right-wing hatchet man,” a “smear merchant” and a “slimy character assassin” who is perpetrating one of the “most cynical and offensive smears ever launched against Barack.”
Evidently, much of Obama nation is composed of obedient and persistent sheep. They jammed all five studio lines for nearly the entire show while firing off dozens of angry emails. Many vowed to kick their grievances up the food chain to station management. After 90 minutes of alleged smear peddling, Milt Rosenberg (a well-respected host whose long-form interview show has aired in Chicago for decades) opened the phone lines, and blind ignorance soon began to crackle across the AM airwaves. The overwhelming message was clear: The interview must be put to an end immediately, and the station management should prevent similar discussions from taking place.
One female caller, when pressed about what precisely she objected to, simply replied, “We just want it to stop!” Another angry caller was asked what “lies” Kurtz had told in any of his reporting on Barack Obama. The thoughtful response? “Everything he said is dishonest.” The same caller later refused to get into “specifics.” Another gentleman called Kurtz “the most un-American person” he’d ever heard. Several of the callers did not even know Stanley’s name, most had obviously never read a sentence of his meticulous research, and more than simply read verbatim from the Obama talking points.
As Rosenberg repeatedly pointed out that Team Obama had been offered the opportunity to take part in the conversation, the agitated masses adapted their argument to suggest it was outrageous to request an interview from the Obama campaign in the thick of the DNC. Delivering the line of the night, Rosenberg countered, “The Obama national headquarters is just down the street from here. They obviously have the time to send out these angry emails, but they can’t walk a few blocks to our studios?”
Throughout the open-line segments, Rosenberg and Kurtz wore incredulous expressions. The hostile callers were so bereft of any legitimate argument, there was little to do but sit back and marvel at what was going on.
The experience was surreal, amusing, and chilling. In a matter of hours, a major national campaign had called on its legions to bully a radio show out of airing an interview with a legitimate scholar asking legitimate political questions. Coupled with the Obama campaign’s recent attempts to sic the DOJ on the creators of a truthful political advertisement —which also happened to feature Obama’s relationship with an unrepentant terrorist— last night’s call to action represents an emerging pattern. Any criticism of Obama’s unknown past is to be immediately denounced as a “smear,” and the messenger is to be shut down at all costs.
Stanley Kurtz is poring through mounds of documents (access to which was initially blocked) in a public university’s library that (a) establish a deeper link between a major party presidential nominee and a man who is proud of bombing US government buildings, and (b) shed light on said candidate’s brief, unexplored executive experience. It’s entirely understandable why the Obama campaign would prefer that the files remain out of the public eye until at least November 5, but Kurtz’s careful research is completely within the bounds of reasonable inquiry. One might even argue it’s vital that a man who may be the next leader of the free world be thoroughly vetted.
Team Obama is fast becoming the campaign that cried “smear.” They labeled the National Right to Life committee “liars” for providing evidence of some unpleasant facts about their candidate’s record on a series of infanticide votes. This tendency to lash out and engage in baseless name-calling not only smacks of desperation; it also may foreshadow an Obama presidency’s strategy in handling unfavorable media reports and sources.
If anyone still believes reinstating the Fairness Doctrine isn’t a top priority for the American Left, last night’s example offered a stark and alarming wake-up call. Still not convinced? For goodness sake, read Jonah’s book.

“Whoever he picks, it doesn’t change the fact that it’s John McCain’s agenda on the ballot,” added David Plouffe.
I guess that also applies to the Obama
camps claim that picking Joe Biden as his VP made up for Obama’s lack
of experience in foreign policy!
Since Obama sets the agenda that means he still lacks the experience to be
Commander-in-Chief!
Just Say No to Obama! No You Can’t!

One key difference in the candidates is that the McCain has the ability to work with both Dems and Republicans to get the job done. McCain and Hillary both proposed the summer gas tax relief, and Obama dissed this so we are paying higher gas. The gas tax relief worked in Colorado when they reduced the tax, and it could work again. It seems that if Obama doesn’t think of it first or doesn’t get the credit for thinking of it – then he is not interested in playing. We need someone who can make the changes we need, not just talk about them. One of the last bills Obama proposed was to give US taxpayer money to the UN so they can build a military and the UN can redistribute the wealth to other nations. He is too liberal and inexperienced.

Did anyone notice that whenever Obama wandered into talking about THE MOST IMPORTANT ISSUES -
world turmoil, terrorism and security, the crowd glazed over and didn’t even applaud. Then he would shout out a giveaway and the crowd roared like they were on Oprah giveaway day.
Absolutely shallow and despicable.
This was a cookie cutter lib speech and it will be a losing formula.
He’s done.

NEWS FLASH!
GOP Considers Delaying Convention Due To Tropical Storm Gustav!
Staging a convention during a major natural disaster would be a public relations challenge for either political party. But GOP officials say the burden could be especially heavy for their party, whose reputation was tarred by the Bush administration’s bungling of Katrina and its aftermath in 2005.
I have predicted this from the start! Two weeks ago I predicted that when the Republicans “prayed” for rain to ruin Obama’s acceptance speech, that they would crash – guess what? They did!!!!
These losers just got their Butts kicked by Obama and they want to run and hide and regroup… What a bunch of losers!!!!
History will not look favorably on this…

Obama knows what cave Bid Laden is hiding in. So why doesn’t he go there? Perhaps Bin Laden is saying with Obama’s brother.

Looks like we have some prognasticators in the midst. Can you predict how Obama will pay for 95% of us to get tax breaks? I think Obama made it clear that businesses would be writing the checks for his costly cuts and the milk and honey things he’s promised. And who is it who employs us folks…yep businesses! Everyone talks about big CEO bonuses. Guess what? A good CEO drives in business and creates diversified products and services. If they don’t, they get fired. That is why they make big bucks. Only those who think they can not aspire to be the CEO want to take the CEO’s money. Redistribution of wealth = socialism. Where has socialism worked? No where. Even teeny, tiny homogeneous Denmark has problems. The garbage man and brain surgen making the same amount of money doesn’t work. Period.
Obama has a LOT to answer to from his speech last night and I suspect as many Democrat analysts are saying, they are a bit worried about that. And fortunately, the few times he’s voted and the many times he’s spoken on video or audio, have been VERY contrary to the centrist he tried to portray last night. Either he was lying for the 20 years he was a “community activist” (whatever that is) and state senator and during his quick blush as a US senator, or he was lying last night. I think it will become very clear when he was lying.
Storm or no storm, the Republicans will answer the Hollywood production we saw this past week. Anyone who thinks will begin to see we are a free nation with a free market economy and we don’t need the government digging deeper in our pockets. 95% of us getting tax breaks. Come on. THINK!
As Reagan said the scariest thing someone can is is, “I’m from the government and I’m here to help.”
As for Katrina – the mayor of New Orleans was Ray Nagin – Democrat. The Govenor was Kathleen Babineaux Blanco -Democrat. And Govenors have the authority to call up the National Guard during peace times… so, who was to blame for the problems during Katrina? And please check the LA legislature to see who shot down funding for repairing the levies.
Obama will fail. He is not the exhaulted one as much as he has been puffed up to believe so. Take the teleprompter off and he lives in a country with 57 states, he thinks kids with asmatha need breathalizers, he thinks people in Afgahnistan speak Arabic, he sees fallen heros and the list goes on and on. on the gaffe chart he beats McCain 10-1. The only place he’ll beat McCain.

Pacaderm: “Can you predict how Obama will pay for 95% of us to get tax breaks?”
Oh my gosh, I almost spit coffee on that one. Now, when a Democrat talks about cutting taxes, the Republicans are suddenly worried about how to pay for it?
I can’t think of any better indicator that all our cynicism toward the Republican Party is fully justified and then some. You guys just like to complain, and you obviously don’t care whether everyone can immediately recognize the ignorance of those complaints.

By the way, did we all notice that Obama is willing to debate temperment?
Uh oh. Door has been opened. McCain might want to learn some anger management.
Seems he had yet another blow-up with a reporter just a couple days ago. But at least he’s an equal opportunity spewer of venom. For a while, it seemed to just be directed at senators and his wife. Well, and Russians. And Iranians. And Iraqis. And women in general.
Okay, disregard the above. He’s always been an equal opportunity spewer of venom. And it really has no limits, except, oddly, for the Vietnamese who oversaw his imprisonment.

what about the biden-mccain-clinton-bush iraq war policy? they didnt mention that one…

Biden isn’t known for being calm, cool and collected. That anger arguemnt isn’t going to hold water once Biden starts getting hot – especially when called to the carpet on his fibs about his education.
Looks like the Republicans have answered all of the Democrats positions. Biggest one is the “change” farce. Biden has been in Congress longer than McCain. So much for the outsider argument. “Chang. Hope. Hope. Change.” BS

Paul: complain? I’m not complaining at all. Again, take a look at the few details of Obama’s economic plan (you know, the one that was posted on his website that then got pulled because it was an impossible dream) and compare it to Jimmy Carter. Remember him? Not sure how old you are but a quick google about the 1970s will show you what an Obama plan looks like when it is played out. Come on – even you can see there is no way 95% of Americans can get tax breaks. Even with the top 10% already paying 80% of the tax burden. Stimulating business generates jobs and growth. The more people make, the greater the over-all tax base and the more revenue we generate. Start spaking those who generate the business and those who are supposed to get the “breaks” pay $7.00 for bread.
I live a great life. I work hard. I’ve saved a lot of money. I have college for my 4 kids paid for. I don’t need to complain about anything. I live in the greatest country in the world. You are misguided if you believe common sense and criticism is considered “complaining”. Drink your coffee carefully.

Biden -what an idiot. Anyone who watched the Supreme Court Nomination hearings over the past years knows that.
Obama – where does he stand on anything? Gives a good speech, so let’s elect his speech writers. He attended a racist church for 22 years and regarded the Rev Wrong as his mentor, then dropped him like a hot potato. Chooses to overlook Bill Ayers past discrepancies. Good judge of character this one is.
John McCain caused ire within his own party when he chose to vote his own mind and not vote along party lines. A puppet of Bush? I don’t think so. Want a real change, vote those idiots out of Washington – R’s and D’s and let’s clean house. Congress has the lowest approval rating ever -and it’s led by Democrats. Imagine that!
And while your at it look around you . We haven’t been attacked since 9/11. The surge is working and for most Americans the economy is great. Hen I ask people if they are better or worse off than they were 10 years ago, they can’t give me an answer. Annoy a Liberal -work hard and be happy!
