Obama on the Palin Pick: Lukewarm Compliments & Criticisms

ABC News’ Andy Fies and Sunlen Miller report: It’s only been one day since Gov. Sarah Palin was chosen as John McCain’s running mate –- and it’s already clear Sen. Barack Obama is not quite comfortable yet going out on the attack against McCain’s choice.

Today he sent out one of his surrogates, Ohio Rep. Sherrod Brown, to warm up his Dublin, Ohio, rally with some not-so-veiled criticisms of Palin.

"John McCain chose someone who was a mayor of a town of 7,000 people, then was elected governor, has been governor of a state for 1800 -– for 18 months, governor of a state that’s half the population of Franklin County," Brown said to the local crowd. "And yet she’s gonna be a heartbeat away from the president. No way!"

Brown, who spent part of the day campaigning with Obama and his running mate, Sen. Joe Biden, said Obama showed better judgment by choosing Biden.

Obama didn’t quite bring up Palin herself –- but he brought up her state -– which solicited a roar of laughter from the Dublin crowd.

"After 19 months of traversing this country, traveling to every state except Alaska, which now that I think about it," Obama paused for comic relief. "I’m gonna have to go up there now."

At a press avail later in the day Obama demurred a bit when asked about McCain’s surprising VP pick.

"She seems to have a wonderful engaging personality and you know, the fact that she got elected governor of Alaska I think shows she’s got real political skill," Obama said of Palin who defeated an incumbent governor to gain the office.

But Obama quickly insinuated that Palin was just more of the same.

"I think that ultimately, she subscribes to the same economic theories and foreign policy theories as John McCain does," Obama told reporters. "I think those are the wrong theories for this country."

Obama said that anyone can take a look at Palin’s executive record against Biden’s record in the Senate and make their own judgments about what it takes to be a good vice president.

"I feel confident about my choice," Obama said. "I’ll let John McCain talk about his."

Obama’s lukewarm criticisms of Palin follow a somewhat different tone than the one his campaign set.

The Obama campaign’s immediate reaction to the announcement Friday was to cast Palin as immediately inexperienced, her only experience being the mayor of a small population.

Afterward the Obama campaign backed off the tone, choosing to issue a second statement from Biden and Obama taking a higher road, saying the Palin pick is an encouraging sign that barriers are falling in politics.

Obama wouldn’t last a minute in Alaska.

Obama doesn’t have to criticize her directly. It’s probably better if he doesn’t. She was never vetted by McCain, and stuff is starting to percolate out of Alaska now about her.
Just sit back and let the press do it’s job. McCain has already thrown away his experience argument. It’s looking like he’s irrevocably blown the judgement one as well.

Last time I check Obama is running against McCain. And since both major newspaper in Alaska have unanimously called her not qualified by a landslide. Obama is not going to take the bait because he doesn’t have to. Going after Palin is a trap. She’s a gimmick and will be easy to marginalize and essential take away to of McCain’s biggest charges against Obama.

I don’t think McCain could have made a better choice. She is all that! Finally, a woman with integrity!

I take war hero Rev. Wright over racist John Hagee. Rev Wright got in trouble for over critiquing the U.S using 70s era paranoia. Hagee got in trouble for being anti-Catholic, anti-Islamic, anti-Jew, anti-Homosexual, and anti-black. All of which was caught on tape. I guess McCain has the judgment to be proud of Hagee who I think is the closest thing to a terrorist leader in the U.S. I saddens me that any Christian would follow a man who preaches hate like Hagee.

Obama has one person he needs to focus on. That’s John McCain. Obama is confident in his VP pick. I’m not sure how McCain is feeling right now, but it doesn’t matter at this point.
Why would Obama want to say anything about McCain’s VP at this point?

Posted by: NM | August 30, 2008, 7:40 pm 7:40 pm

I can just see Obama and his entourage getting within 100 feet of a bear or moose. They would have to rush back to their hotel to change clothes. Moose and bear are occasionally seen in down- town or near downtown Anchorage. They are usually more afraid of you but one never really know what they may do if they have their young with them. Moose would come around and eat my left-over veggies and flowers after the ground was covered with snow.
Frankly, I think that Obama is worried with a VP candidate with more experience in government and administration then he has. I did community organizer work as a high school student. No big deal, it was so easy.

Let’s face it, with about 65 days left till election day, it’s kind of stupid and desparate for McSame to pick someone who is unknown because now he has to spend time to introduce her on the national stage. He just gave a big gift to the Obama camp. She’s not even worth attacking, the media and the pundits are doing their thing and raising doubt about her readiness to step into the president’s role and some are already saying McCain showed poor judgement in choosing her, given his age and health concerns. He had more credible candidates to choose from but chose her thinking she will pull in some women voters. That’s not putting country first, he’s just trying to win this election. Sarah is not qualified to step in as president should something happen to Mccain, period.

If the incumbent that Palin ousted in the gubernatorial election was a long-standing member of the good-old-boy political machine in Alaska, he probably had all of the newspapers in his pocket for a good many years.
It’s very likely these newspapers are biased against her because of their former support of the candidate she defeated.
If her approval rating is somewhere near 80% amongst her constituents, that should be all that matters.

Okay Joe
I’ll bite. Let’s compare. 1st research the political environment of Alaska and Illinois and you’ll find Illinois is much tougher. Then look at what she has actually done and qualifications; Palin has none on foreign policy. Obama didn’t just pop out of nowhere was just as well known in rural Illinois as Urban Illinois while in his term as Illinois State Senate. Example comparison Palin PTA, Obama led Project Vote! to register 600,000 new voters. Palin majored a town that rivals towns in mainlain U.S. Obama was doing State Lawmaking which is someways more direct then U.S. legislature when it comes to Domestic Policies and such. Palin gov of Alaska is an executive position but 1.5 years over a population fewer then some small counties. Obama passes benchmark legislation early in his first term a feat few new Senators. Senators work more closely with Foreign Policy and actually boost his Foreign policy credentials. Let’s not to mention a champaign historic not because Obama is African-America, but because of it’s organization, and fund raising abillity.

Obama and his associations of Wright, Ayers, Rezko and his own America hating racist wife will cost him the election!
It doesn’t matter who McCain picked, people will not be able to vote for an anti-American racist! His drug use has left him unbalanced!

Let’s be clear. Mayors have more administrative qualities then Palin.
Lets list a few:
Michael B. Coleman
Carleton S. Finkbeiner
Richard Michael Daley
Antonio Villaraigosa
Michael Bloomberg
John Marks
John Peyton
Manny Diaz

I guess there are a lot of people who worry about their lives. Why should we put the decision on the hands of a senile , arrogant , old man who doesn’t care diddley squat what the rest of us think. He made his choice, now in November we get a chance to make ours. She is so far to the right that she is almost falling off the edge.

I have to love you because your text is golden in it’s hypocrisy. It doesn’t matter who McCain chooses to surround himself with but it does with Obama. Well Rev Wright is stuck in the 1970s like most older black people, Ayer lives in the same neighborhood as Obama and the Rezco story was proven false because he bought the house above market value.
But if a convicted pedophile moves two doors down from you, I’ll know you that you like hanging around convicted felons.

WHAT A TERRIBLE CAMPAIGN IT HAS BEEN. I STOPPED WATCHING MOST NEWS CHANNELS AND DO NOT READ ANY OF IT FROM OUR TOWN PAPER EITHER. BLESS US ALL.
SNEAKYPETE.

Posted by: BETTY | August 30, 2008, 8:13 pm 8:13 pm

Here’s the great thing about this election. Both sides are realizing that they cannot use smear tactics. Period.
McCain team’s celebrity ads are shallow. Paris Hilton looked smarter than the whole of McCain’s early shots.
Obama team’s initial response to Palin was disastrously bad — and these surrogate shots are going to backfire.
Whichever campaign goes more deeply negative is going to fall apart in the end. I honestly don’t know which one it’s going to be. That’s what makes this race somewhat fun.
What I will say is that for both campaigns, I’m thankful they aren’t being managed by the people putting comments up here. Do you really think smearing people is a) going to convince independents like me and b) going to reflect well on who you are and why your on this planet?

Posted by: Kitty | August 30, 2008, 8:15 pm 8:15 pm

I see a lot of back and forth, which I find funny. Right now, one thing matters, and one thing only. MCCAIN DIDN’T VET HIS OWN VP!
That tells you everything you need to know about a McCain presidency. Game over. He’s got people in Alaska right now, as we speak attempting to put out the fires. And it’s because he didn’t do the homework beforehand, and chose to play it by ear and go with a gut pick.
That’s it. That’s the ballgame. A McCain administration would be sloppy and disorganized and a President McCain would be inclined to take poorly thought out risks. Suddenly, the Dangerously Unprepared team is McCain’s. Next to John McCain, Barack Obama is the very model of consistency and organization. Which if you’ve followed along, you know he is.
The first Presidential decision you make is to select your VP. McCain didn’t vet his, and picked his off of optics alone. This could get ugly.

Posted by: Nelson | August 30, 2008, 8:19 pm 8:19 pm

MM yes, funny. If what you are saying is true, it goes to show what an employer’s mindset McCain has versus Obama who wants everything for nothing. McCain believes in paying people what they are worth, Obama uhhh not so much. Heck, not at all. I’m rubber, you’re glue.

Posted by: Kitty | August 30, 2008, 8:19 pm 8:19 pm

Obama, made a major political mistake on not getting Hillary and bringing the whole party together, period!
McCain helped his campaign by picking another maverick and female who can stand up to anyone. Palin has as much experience as Obama on top of his ticket. Palin is a new inspiring pick the republicans need. She has 80 percent approval in Alaska and is the most popular Governor in America. She taxed oil companies and gave it all back to Alaska’s taxpayers at $1,200 each.
Obama is a smart inspiring speaker, but Palin’s actions speak louder than political words. She has fought corruption in both parties in Alaska. When she speaks she says it like it is, unlike polished career politicians. Some people can talk the talk, but Palin can walk the walk. Anyone with doubts about Palin should watch her interview with Maria Bartiromo on CNBC.
People are talking negatively about Palin without knowing all the facts about what she has achieved, including the media because they are in love with Obama. The media is saying McCain picked Palin because of Hillary not being picked and I love Hillary, but Sarah is the real deal for republicans and she gives them a new face that they need to reform their party. The Republican Party has always been for the rich and special interests, Sarah represents “we the people” and is against government waste and the good old boy network, this is just what republicans need to fix their image and direction.
Now the race is exciting and change is coming to both parties! History will be made period with either Obama or McCain!

Right after his all cozy touchy feely speech on how he’s different, he’s a different politician (blah, blah, blah)….the Obama camp rips out a Palin bashing memo blasting it. Trashing small towns in the process.
I guess Obama’s promises have a 12 hour shelf life.

Doesn’t know what a socialist means. I’m an engineer and I know who a socialist is. Face it your afraid of change. I guess you then the U.K. or Canada is socialist – they have Universal Healthcare. China is socialist, not the Democrats. The Government was invented for a reason, and the reason wasn’t to go to War with Iraq, ignore the actual people who kill American lives.
Get real Bush found Saddam in a hole but couldn’t find the terrorist that organized 911. Sometimes obeying party lines is wrong, McCain was wrong and needs to sit this one out. Obama was right. By the way McCain and Bush were eating cake when Katrina hit New Orlean.

McCains bitch problem.
One of McCains supporters at an event back in the spring called Hillary a “bitch”. McCain just laughed, and said it “was a great question”.
On a radio show a person called an opponent of Palins a “bitch”, and Palin just giggled away.
This is as much a indication of the “temperament” of the candidates as it is a window into the souls of the republican faithful. All they know is attacks, anger and hate. I have no respect for those like McCain, or Palin, who allow it, and don’t step in and correct these misguided people.

Nelson, the woman ran against the political incumbent powerful machine in Alaska. I imagine she’s been vetted to the hilt.
Also she has an 80% approval rating and is known as maverick.
McCain met her and liked her instantly. And what else do you need to know? She had it all.
But thanks for trying. Next.

Posted by: Meg | August 30, 2008, 8:25 pm 8:25 pm

Palin is better qualified than Obama, she has had real jobs, Obama has been a taker, living off of the political system and government his entire career. A governor of any state is much more of a leader than any junior senator, especially one with no accomplishments whatsoever.

Posted by: Rich | August 30, 2008, 8:25 pm 8:25 pm

It is so amusing watching all of you in the lower 48 (and yes, I do mean lower) talk smack about Palin. People who don’t know about the years of poltical corruption between the oil companies and the state government and how she fought it and won. You have no clue as to what it takes to simply live in the environment and yet you claim to know tough? Yeah sure, just like you know integrity, as your poltical choices over the last couple of decades shows. Hell, we may get lucky. McCain may win and if he does, he may even clean house. At least he has the right partner to pull it off.

Does Obama have some kind of phobia concerning small towns, you know the ones with bitter people clinging to guns and religion?
Obama keeps coming off as an elitist. The school he went to in Hawaii, Punaho breeds that into you, as does Harvard Law. Obama’s personality is not suited for the presidency of the United States of America.

Palin been governor for 1.5 years of a population of 683,478 (47th highest in U.S). Not only is this lacking but Bush had 6.5 years on her and you know how much he screwed up the last 8 years of a much larger state. This is not a game people actual lives are on the line, so don’t give me BS about executive experience because none of the candidates have any.

Posted by: MM | August 30, 2008, 8:37 pm 8:37 pm

Palin’s appeal is WAY obvious.
Her poll numbers already reflect a much more favorable opinion than does Biden.
(what a shocker!)
Half the battle is getting someone who actually WANTS to change Washington & fight corruption. Sarah Palin has already done that.
Obama doesn’t care about fighting corruption, or else he would have started with Chicago.
President McCain – get use to it!

Remember that Bridge to Nowhere that Palin claims she never wanted? I think her exact words were, “Thanks, but no thanks” about accepting that money. But it’s turned out that she’s on the record numerous times with her support for the project, and in fact when the the federal funds were finally withdrawn, she complained about what she called the lack of interest in spending federal dollars on the bridge.
In short, she was for the Bridge to Nowhere before she was against it.

Obama takes a job has civil attorney the most underpaid law profession (corperate makes the big bucks) – he is elitist.
Obama writes books about his life and philosophy which are actually good – he is elitist.
McCain can’t remember how many houses he owns – he’s in touch.

Let’s put it to the people.
You want an inexperienced presidential candidate? Or an inexperienced VP candidate?
Gosh, I’m sure this is a head scratcher.
LOLOL.

Posted by: Jo | August 30, 2008, 8:40 pm 8:40 pm

MM, elitism is a mindset.
It all starts at those Ivy League universities where they teach the students that they must control the masses.
So don’t even try to go there. They are elitests and they travel in the elite circles.

MM,
You forgot one:
Obama makes friends with Bill Ayers
Obama gets Rezko to help him buy his house
Don’t leave off the biggies.

Posted by: Jo | August 30, 2008, 8:43 pm 8:43 pm

McCain supporters are going to taste the same medicine that Kerry did.
They hated McCain before they liked him, and they only like him now because they hate Obama.
You don’t win by just being against the other guy, just like in 2004.

I am not playing. You like to throw around slogans without knowing what they mean. “like country first”, or “on the job training”. Well guess what Bush got into office playing this kind of game what did we get for it. Jo keep playing this game an America losses not just me. I support Obama but until you start thinking policy we will get nowhere.

I mean you forgot two

Posted by: Jo | August 30, 2008, 8:43 pm 8:43 pm

They said they wish McCain had put country first and hadn’t picked Palin.
Sorry but you lose on that one again.

Posted by: Jo | August 30, 2008, 8:44 pm 8:44 pm

MM, if Obama wins, America DOES lose.
I prefer my president and First Lady to have respect for this country.
Which if they did, they wouldn’t be in Trinity Church for 20 years and watch their mentor trash this country every Sunday.
Nor would they attend parties and socialize with terrorist Bill Ayers who said recently “America makes me want to puke”
MM, you lose on this game. Don’t even try to defend Obama.

I thought I address this earlier, but since you take pride in your ignorance. Opponents like to drum up fake controversy to distract from the issues, like 5000 soldiers dead in Iraq. You absorb the fake controversy, accept it as truth, and regurgitate it. Ayers, Rezco, Wright, Keating 5 are all fake controversy so don’t insult me.

Palin has a bs in journalism, was mayor of 6,000, elected to Gov a year and a half ago.
Obama, current US Senator on the Foreign Relations Committee, Homeland Security Committee, Veterans Affairs Committee, Health, Education, Labor and Pension Committee.
Passed Ethics Reform, Gov’t Transparency, Comprehensive plan to secure nuclear weapons, Benefits for Veterans, Katrina legislation, has written almost 1000 pcs of legislation, and has co-sponsored over 1000 pcs of legislation.
Served 11 yrs in Illinois State Senate, Civil Rights Attorney for 9 yrs, taught Consitutional Law at the Univ of Chicago.

Nice guy eh? Such compassion.
Oh yeah, and your hero Michael Moore said something similar. Like because of Gustav he knows there “is a God in heaven”

Obama talks about change, but McCain actually acts on it! Obama was so afraid of a woman that he didn’t even vet poor Hillary. Palin has more chief executive experience and far more accomplishments than Barrack Hussein Obama! You can smell the fear of Democrats.

Posted by: Duke | August 30, 2008, 8:50 pm 8:50 pm

She has done some intersting things as governor – actually has STARTED some interesting things, none of which are far enough along to qualify as completed projects. She has cut all kinds of things out of the state budget – money for schools, libraries, and such. Eighty percent approval – ! Of course, she just put through an energy rebate of $1200 to go to every single Alaskan to help with our disproportionate energy costs. That is in addition to the yearly Permenant Fund Dividend check. She defeated the incumbent because he really messed up – Alaskans are unpredicatable and don’t vote for anybody except Ted Stevens and Don Young consistently, and that is likely to change this time around. There is a real potential for a Democrat taking over one of their seats after decades of Republicans going to Washington from Alaska. It would only be fair to say, especially with the state questions about her administration that started in July, way before McCain chose her, that even in Alaska, the jury is still out on Palin.

I’m sorry your little Sarah doesn’t match up.

Posted by: bc46 | August 30, 2008, 8:52 pm 8:52 pm

Palin is not fit to be President, or even Vice President, since she doesn’t even know what the job entails. I learned in Elementary Social Studies that the Vice President is supposed to preside over the Senate, can be a tie breaker, and of course, fill in for the President if something should happen( MCINsane getting a stroke, for example.)SO by my logic, that makes ME more qualified than she.
If she doesn’t even know that, how is she going to possibly meet with world leaders? Sure, she’s pro life, but what does she think about the Enron Loophole, or the mortgage crisis, or the War in Iraq?
But arguing against conservatives is almost pointless. The people who are voting for McCain won’t listen to reason. The people who “love” Palin are morons.
People who vote based on gun ownership and pro life and religion and all that stuff don’t realize that they are voting against themselves every time, that the Republican have figured out the con game that gets people distracted so that they can dig into the treasury and get them and their corporate friends wealth. That’s what the War in Iraq is about-so Haliburton and KBR and the Carlyle Group can make money, not to mention the oil companies.
So go ahead Republicans! Vote for McBain and I’m willing to bet we are in for a rough 4 years. Don’t cry to me when you can’t buy gas, buy a home, or go to a hospital. You’ll be destitute, but at least Gays won’t be able to get married.
Yay!

Keating 5 is actually a direct precursor to our current housing crisis. McCain was directly involved. I agree 100 percent that we need to focus on the issues, but in light of today’s economic crisis, and John McCain’s self-professed lack of economic awareness, the Keating 5 scandal and it’s fallout is actually relevant to our economic discussion.

Posted by: bc46 | August 30, 2008, 8:55 pm 8:55 pm

Hi. I’m a Standard republican. I love Sarah Palin.
I also hate science(creationism all the way), take the bible literally(Jesus didn’t talk about physics), and think that it’s good that John McCain picked the governor of the Biggest Welfare State in the USA to promote fiscal security. They all get money, straight from the state, after all, just for being residents of Alaska.
I love it how she defeated the powerful political machine in Alaska–mostly made up of moose and grizzly bears(you saw what they did to Tim Treadwell! Yeah! stoopid environmentalists) and she’s now cleaning up Alaska. I mean, those political machines must have been so powerful, with Alaska having a conservative majority, conservative thinking minority. It must have been so hard to get her bills through the state legislature.
The fact of the matter is this. She can strongarm big oil in Alaska because they can’t really go anywhere else. They can’t take their oil to China for lower wage production costs. They can’t undercut it because it’s a land-dependant resource.
So yeah! Yeah! I don’t mind the fact that she’ll never face a crisis in Alaska because the state is flush with oil cash!I don’t mind that she was the mayor of a shithole town full of drugs and alcohol! I don’t mind the fact that she’s done drugs, and is a complete hypocrite, or that she’s from Sandpoint Idaho, home of the aryan nation! those guys are right, too. All people of color are just welfare scammers after all. We should encourage abortion among them. Because every third baby dies of choice, but we only care about the white ones from families that earn over $75,000 a year, and are from Christian families.
Praise Jesus and John McCain for giving us Sarah Palin. You socialist hippie liberals should just give it up and vote for her. She knows that a woman’s place is barefoot, pregnant, and ignoring her kids to do a job she’s not qualified for, and will ruin the hopes of women for generations to come with her complete and total inadequacy.

Posted by: StandardRepublican | August 30, 2008, 8:55 pm 8:55 pm

McCain has been fighting for Americans for years. He’s bucked his party when he thought they were wrong and he’s a wise man.
Obama has done nothing. He did nothing for Chicago (oh wait he voted “present” 100 times!) and he’s done nothing in DC but run for president.
Sorry, but I choose to go with the people who mean what they say and have a record of accomplishment.
McCain/Palin in a landslide.

Obama was a Illinios State Senator. Clean Chicago is Major Daley’s job and the Justice Departments. Get your branches right. And in fact obama did pass ethics legislation in Illinois State Senate for the entire State.

Posted by: MM | August 30, 2008, 9:01 pm 9:01 pm

Again guys. This isn’t Obama vs Palin. Obama cares about one person, and that’s John McCain. Obama is comfortable with his VP choice, and we’ll have to see what happens with McCain’s. Right now, they’re scrambling a bit because they didn’t do all their homework. People are starting to talk, which is bad news for the McCain team. It was the risk he took when he picked her without vetting her, but he was the one that went that route. Now they’re in mini crisis management mode.
This is reflective of McCain’s judgement and organization. We’ll see how it turns out, but we now know that he’ll willing to take huge, and somewhat poorly thought through risks.
It’s up to you if you want that in a President.

Posted by: dannity | August 30, 2008, 9:01 pm 9:01 pm

Hey Jo
How many people have landlines in Alaska. Think about it, that how they do polling. So few people in such a huge place, more people would have things like generators, cell phones, land lines not so likely. 80% of 600,000 is still 17.5 million short.

Posted by: MM | August 30, 2008, 9:04 pm 9:04 pm

Whats easy is how you discount Obama’s experience and accomplishments.
Obama was VOTED into the presidential nomination, not selected by a presidential nominee.

For the record Palins “80%” approval was when she was first elected. Since then it has drifted downward, and more so since the ethics investigation.
They don’t track approaval very often in Alaska not to discredit its importance, but its the 47th largest state. They do have oil, but so does Iraq and Iran, but we don’t have to invade Alaska.

More info. I judge politicans by how much they make. Biden althought he has been in Washington D.C. has long as McCain seems to be worth a max of only a whopping $400,000. Compared with other politicians, if he has been gaming the system, he is really bad at it.

Posted by: MM | August 30, 2008, 9:10 pm 9:10 pm

“She seems to have a wonderful engaging personality and you know, the fact that she got elected governor of Alaska I think shows she’s got real political skill,” Obama said of Palin who defeated an incumbent governor to gain the office.
Jo, THAT is what Obama said, but apparently you didn’t read the article.
Typical.

Posted by: Jo | August 30, 2008, 9:11 pm 9:11 pm

bc46,
Apparently you guys don’t watch the news much.
The first statement out of the Obama campaign (by his spokesman) was trashing her “experience” (which is hilarious coming from the Obama team) and saying she’s from a small town.
Then Obama got embarrassed and made another statement.
So in other words, Obama’s team was NOT as classy as McCain was.

How much is 80% of 600000. It is alot less then the votes Obama has earned I proving he is qualified to be President. Hey if you think Palin is qualified check out Major Daley, keeping gambling out of Chicago and cleaning up the city. By the way Major Daley has 2.4 more million people in his town. By the way Daley is considered the Best major in the U.S.

Obama isn’t saying anything about her qualifications. Her qualifications for President should the 72 year old cancer surviver at the top of the ticket be unable to handle his duties is up for debate. She’ll have the opportunity to answer those questions in the weeks coming up.
In the meantime, Obama has been allowing the American people to get to know him and his qualifications for over a year of intensive campaigning. He’s put together a multi-billion (with a B) dollar campaign that took out the greatest political team in decades, revolutionizing campaign organizing and fundraising in the process. Like him or not, there’s a reason why he’s here. And it wasn’t because this was handed to him.
Palin’s getting her shot now. She’s got a lot of brushing up to do, this is the big leagues.

I sense that Standard Republican likes sarcasm.
Let me spell it out, pointless as it may be to try to convince right wingers of anything logical.
McCain is too old to be president. He’s 72 and not in good health. If I was 72, I would be kicking back in Florida on the golf course. Clearly McCain is doing it for the ego, not because he’s really interested in doing the the hard work that needs to be done. What does he care, he’s a billionare! McCain , just retire already, like most people your age.
Meanwhile, Palin, has no experience. Honestly, the whole ” we want a maverick outsider to bring in fresh new energy” is a complete crock. We need somebody who understands how to get something done in Washington. (Honestly, I don’t know why we’ve had all state governors for the past 30 years. Carter, a great man, ultimately failed because he couldn’t understand how the politics of the Congress functions. Obama and Biden really know.) The people who say Palin has “Executive ” experience, PLEASE!
If you want your car fixed, do you go to somebody who has worked in a garage for years, or someone who has never been under the hood but is a “MAVERICK”…..
It’s just common sense, people…..
Memo to the press, stop calling Palin a Maverick, stop calling McCain a maverick,it just gives away the fact that you are more propagandists than ” reporters”
And yes, McCain technically has more experience than Obama, but he has terrible judgement, and did I mention that he’s older than dirt? He doesn’t have the energy or the mind or the compassion. He’s a senile old rich guy. He could give a damn about people losing their homes…..
Once again, this won’t convince the right wingers. They’ll vote for McCain out of party loyalty or simply because they are racist. Palin might get the God vote. But it will probably be close just like the last 2 elections. There’s not much middle ground in this country.
And if the undecideds haven’t decided yet? What the heck are you waiting for, the choice is pretty clear. Unless you are the heartless CEO of an oil company or a defense contractor, you have no business voting for McLame.
It’s worth noting that Pat Buchanan said Obama’s speech was one of the best in History. Maybe there is hope.

bc46,
So you’re saying since McCain’s VP pick has no experience, we should pick Obama who has no experience, yet he’s running for president?
You’re kidding right? This is logical to you?
LOL. You can’t make this stuff up.

Obama said that anyone can take a look at Palin’s executive record against Biden’s record in the Senate and make their own judgments about what it takes to be a good vice president.

Undisputable! Great comment O!!
Thats a comparison Palin just can’t win. In fact, she can’t even compete.

McCain = incredible foreign policy experience
Obama = no foreign policy experience
If you’re saying you’d rather have Obama who has no foreign policy experience because you’re afraid to vote for McCain in case he dies and his VP wins and she has no experience and that’s bad……
Do you see where I’m going? Lol.

Palin’s experience:
U of Idaho
Wasilla City Council
Wasilla Major
Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commissioner
Governor of Alaska
Prospective: Wasilla population – 5500.
Obama had 6 times that in the stadium in his exceptance speech.

Posted by: MM | August 30, 2008, 9:24 pm 9:24 pm

Posted by: abel | August 30, 2008, 9:24 pm 9:24 pm

Maggie that would be a good analogy, except that Obama is asking us to vote for HIM and he has no experience in foreign policy.
I want my president ready from DAY ONE…..not a candidate I have to hope dies in order to get the guy with the foreign policy experience.
This isn’t hard for intelligent people to get.

A load of interesting stuff about John McCain from brother Joe.
1. It shows John’s Oedipus Complex with Cindy mirroring the role his mother had when he was a boy. Palin kind of plays into this as well.
2. Shows his family was Navy royalty with both father and grandfather being admirals.
3. Shows how out of touch the McCains are with average people — Mom was managing the oil leases [my mom did that too LOL!] and John knows how Americans are because he serves on a committee.
4. Finally, brains don’t flow on the male side as dad and grandpa finished near the bottom of their classes along with John.
“The person who took care of all the business was my mother,” he said. “My father had no idea about the family business, what oil leases he owned in Oklahoma.”
Joe McCain, who makes his home in Washington’s Northern Virginia suburbs, chuckled when recalling that “one time, [John McCain's mother] bought a house to remodel” in Southeast Washington while “[dad] was at sea.”
John McCain’s years as a prisoner of war in Vietnam and as chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee also help him “emphasize with the American people” on pocketbook issues, Joe McCain said.
John McCain was a less-than-stellar student who graduated fifth from the bottom of his class at the Naval Academy.
“By the way, that’s a McCain tradition,” he said. “My father and grandfather, both four-star admirals, and they graduated in the bottom fourth of their class, too.”

What good is experience if you’re going to make sloppy and misinformed decisions all the time.
ONCE AGAIN FOR THOSE THAT MISSED IT: McCain failed to vet his VP pick. He met with her one time ever before choosing to put her on his ticket, and he did this without doing the standard groundwork required for any modern politician. He took the biggest risk of his political career, and he did it in a purely reactionary manner after Obama’s acceptance speech.
This tells us everything we need to know about what a President McCain would be like. It’s your call America.

I am an evangelical Christian who thinks that we are a nation with a tunnel vision. I am pro-life but it saddens me that those who claim to have so much passion for the unborn, lack any compassion for those already born, and for all of life. The churches have not demonstrated any care or concern for the thousands of innocent men, women and children who have been killed in Iraq, including our own heroic soldiers. There appears also to be a lack of concern for the poor, the homeless, the jobless, and those who powerless and vulnerable. How can we call ourselves Christians when our actions seem hypocritical. If being pro-life is the only qualification needed to run the country then let us nominate our pastors! Some of them lead churches bigger than the town in Alaska where Palin was the mayor!
I think McCain, like Bush, is losing brain cells very fast! McCain is clearly demonstrating he is desperate. If he really cared for our country he could have selected some capable Republicans to be his V.P. He thinks his only chance some how is to have a woman on his ticket…. so why not a gun-toting, hockey mom, beauty queen while he is at it. Reportedly, he talked to her only once before making his decision. She seems like the type who will give up time with her newborn baby, who is diagnosed with Downs Syndrome, and who is going to need a lot of care and attention, just to fulfill her personal ambition. I don’t know what her family values are.
I am scared to have this duo in the White House. Our country cannot afford another war and McCain won’t wait to show off his so called “commander and chief” ability.
Obama and Biden WILL have my vote.

Yeah, being a high school basketball star, beauty queen and a “hockey mom” is much more impressive than Mr. Bidens creds… Silly me.
He has served as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, dealing with issues related to drug policy, crime prevention, and civil liberties. He is a long-time member and current chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee and has worked on resolutions concerning the Yugoslav wars and Iraq War. Biden is also a long-time member and current chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations.
Yeah, you’re right, Palin is “100% more better”.

Palin’s approval ratings are closer to 65% . . .
That doesn’t jive at all with the USA Today survey where she has has a confidence rating in the 30% range for being able to function in a vice presidency capacity. During a MSNBC interview yesterday, she was unable to state the responsibilities of a vice president.

Posted by: kat | August 30, 2008, 9:38 pm 9:38 pm

She’s bringing in money for McCain (which he’s need to spend before his convention), but polls are showing that she’s actually been a negative among women voters.
She’ll have her shot to turn that around, but she’s got a TON of cramming to do in order to make a credible impression to a national electorate.

Posted by: dannity | August 30, 2008, 9:38 pm 9:38 pm

I know you guys want to focus on Palin, but she’s running for VP. The focus here and the one of importance is PRESIDENT.
And we need experience. We need McCain.

Posted by: Jo | August 30, 2008, 9:39 pm 9:39 pm

Republicans just repeat B.S. ad nauseum , it’s like the old game” I know you are but what am I?” Just yell and scream the loudest and you win.
Barack Obama has way more experience in every way than Palin. He’s been in the Senate in Washington, he’s been to Europe and Iraq on dimplomatic …..ahhhh what’s the use, you don’t care. Anyway, I stand by my argument.
Let’s just imagine this scenario:
McCain/Palin wins.
McCain gets cancer relapse or has a stroke. Or heart attack.
Palin is President.
China and or Russia decide this is their chance, cause no one will take this Palin seriously, she’ll be too busy taking care of her 5 wonderful kids.
They invade , we are forced to speak Russian and or Chinese for the next 50 years.
Or actually I ‘m not joking, China decides to convert their dollars to Euros, collapsing our economy overnight, and Palin has no idea what to do because she’s never heard of the Euro. She thinks it’s a type of Elk.
I’m sort of joking but, please people. Boss Hogg from the Dukes of Hazzard has more executive experience than Palin.
I don’t wish for death on anyone except it would be great to see if McLame couldn’t serve for some reason and then Palin steps in and has no idea what to do and then we would just have to impeach her ass because she’s that unqualified. We would be sitting ducks on the world stage.
Come on, Alaska?

By this time Kerry was at least 13 points ahead of Bush. Obama gave a big speech watched by 40 million and only has an 8 point (in some polls 4 points) bounce.
We still have the GoP convention and a lot of enthusiasm for a woman VP.
Obama can’t crack even close to 50% and yet this is supposedly a year when it’s hard for a dem to lose.

Jo, you’re deliberately using circular talking points. Obama isn’t Palin. Like it or not, the American people have had over a year to get familiar with the idea of Obama becoming our President. He’s met with generals and foreign leaders, and has faced off head to head with the preeminent political family since the Kennedy’s. Obama hasn’t just been picked to be here. He’s been voted here, and in the most exhaustive primary we’ve ever witnessed.

Oh yeah, and he doesn’t hang around with terrorists like Bill Ayers and doesn’t attend radical racist America hating churches like that other guy.
There.
Didn’t think so.

Having more experience doesn’t nullify another person’s experience. So far all I hear is McCain and experience. What is McCain’s policy. Why should I vote for him?

Posted by: MM | August 30, 2008, 9:50 pm 9:50 pm

Jo, ARE YOU SERIOUS?! Did you just try to make an argument that “Most people don’t know what a VP does”?!
I learned what a VP does in grade school. I would expect an elected official to have an idea. And for d@mn sure, I’d expect someone seeking the office of vice-president to know what it is he or she is about to be doing.
I’m sure someone has briefed her. I’m not positive of that, because McCain isn’t known for his willingness to prepare, but I’m sure someone’s gotten around to it. But yes, that is disconcerting that the person seeking the 2nd highest office in the land didn’t have an idea what that job entailed a month ago.

Posted by: dannity | August 30, 2008, 9:51 pm 9:51 pm

I know the VP is the president of the senate.
What’s your point.

What has McCain Reform since he got in office?

Posted by: MM | August 30, 2008, 9:51 pm 9:51 pm

I don’t like Obama and I like his wife even less.
They’re both bitter and racially obsessed people. To attend that digusting church for 20 years which bashes America every Sunday is just disgusting.
Thank God they will never set foot in White House.

Posted by: Jo | August 30, 2008, 9:53 pm 9:53 pm

You assume most people doesn’t know what the VP does. I’m a person and I know so I disproved your point. And don’t change the subject.
And another thing should Palin know the Constitution back and fowards if she is going to be Vice President.

Posted by: MM | August 30, 2008, 9:54 pm 9:54 pm

Again, what good is experience if he he’s sloppy and easily mislead. What good is experience if his judgement is fundamentally flawed.
MCCAIN DIDN’T VET HIS VP! Defend that.

Dannity – Okay- I realize now the 65% rating came from her state. Thanks for the clarification.

“Does anyone else find it a little unsettling that less than a month ago ms palin, you know, Mr. McCains vp candidate – had to ask what the vice president does all day?”
And does anyone else find it unsettling that Obama attended a racist church for 20 years? I know I do.

Posted by: Mack | August 30, 2008, 9:55 pm 9:55 pm

No, the real question is, “is that all she’s got…”
My point is, we can do better. And to be blunt, we need to.

Posted by: dannity | August 30, 2008, 9:55 pm 9:55 pm

The main position of the VP is to be ready in case something happens to be the president.
I’d say 99% of people know THAT and nothing else.
As for what they do all day? who knows? Except for break ties in the senate, it’s anyone’s guess.
So you lose on that point you’re trying to make a big deal out of.

Posted by: Jo | August 30, 2008, 9:55 pm 9:55 pm

Typical famale bashing just like Hillary. If Palin was a male people would be treating her differently and with more respect. How many governors really have foreign policy experience, none. I never hear anyone saying Biden is from a small tiny state Delaware home of the credit card companies that he helped author bankruptcy reform against its card holders. Palin is getting s*****d by the media and Obama Democrats just like Hillary. Hillary had more experience than Obama but he tossed her aside like many strong females.

Stop avoiding the question. You gave me a legitimate reason to vote for McCain but you take the time to answer a simple question. If McCain is such a profound reformer what exactly in 26 years has he reformed?

Posted by: MM | August 30, 2008, 9:59 pm 9:59 pm

Why isn’t anyone answering the question about why McCain hasn’t done the basic research on the person that he’s asking the American people to accept as President if he’s not able to fulfill his duties.
That’s not a hypothetical in this case. He’s a 72 year old cancer surviver. This isn’t a game. Word out of Alaska is McCain’s team is scrambling to put out fires that never should have been set off in the first place. How is this possible? Is McCain that out of touch with his own campaign?

Don’t trust the media because the slogo is “if it bleeds it leads” and not “if its true it leads”.”
Pledging your allegiance to Africa first and blaming all of your communities woes on white Europeans isn’t racist?

Posted by: Mack | August 30, 2008, 10:00 pm 10:00 pm

Jo- I have no understanding of your reasoning. Palin’s low confidence ratings have nothing to do with Obama. Not anymore than her inability during an interview to state the responsibilities of the vice presidency. Can you specify historically what you mean about the Clinton’s 20 point bounce?

Posted by: kat | August 30, 2008, 10:00 pm 10:00 pm

MM, I gave you a list.
If that doesn’t convince you, it’s because you don’t care about good qualifications.
I’ll tell you two reasons not to vote for Obama. He’s the #1 most liberal senator and Biden is #3.
And that’s all you need to know.

Posted by: Mack | August 30, 2008, 10:02 pm 10:02 pm

kat,
Clinton was known to have gotten the most historically high bounce after the convention of about 20 points.
Looks like Obama won’t even get close. And that’s after a 40 million viewing audience.
Palin already has higher favorables than Biden.
Let’s face it, the Obama bounce is a bomb. And we haven’t even had OUR convention.

Posted by: Jo | August 30, 2008, 10:03 pm 10:03 pm

Mack, Obama’s gone through the most thoughrough vetting process that we’ve ever seen. It’s all out there, and the people have had the chance to see it, judge it, and then vote for it if they chose. The fact that he’s here now is indicative of the results of that vetting.
Palin hasn’t gone through that process. That was the perogative of McCain. He didn’t do that, and now we’re slowly getting word of the fallout from that decision. Calling that sloppy work is being kind.
What was McCain’s excuse?

What? You’re kidding right? They didn’t vet him properly because they were afraid of being called racists. No white candidate that had attended a racist church for 20 years would never, ever be in the position that he is in now.

Posted by: Jo | August 30, 2008, 10:07 pm 10:07 pm

Kat, Jo’s talking about the convention bounce that Bill Clinton got in 1992, which was 16 points, the highest that I’m aware of. The problem here is there was an extenuating factor that led to this bounce. Right before the convention, Ross Perot dropped out of the race, and a good percentage of his support coalesce behind Clinton after the convention. In other words, the bounce the the GOP keeps trying to compare Obama to was only possible because a very strong 3rd party dropped out, and later came back in.
Obama’s convention bounce has actually been higher than the historical average.

They find it “unsettling” that a VP candidate recently seemed unsure about exactly what the VP did
Yet a PRESIDENTIAL candidate who has a long relationship with the unrepentant terrorist Bill Ayers (“America makes me want to puke”) and the libs have NO PROBLEM with that.

I’m not aware of Obama’s church pledging allegiance to Africa, though I’m aware of the descriptive term of Afrocentric used on their website. Which I took to mean maintaining an awareness of your origins, not a pledge of allegiance to Afria. Wright gave angry sermons, but I doubt if he actually blamed South Chicago woes on the Europeans. Though I heard him rally against the Romans though, as did a lot of Israelites and Christians way back in history.

But NO, you WANT to be president … and this is nothing about bringing change … it is ONLY about you being president, isn’t it Obama?
Palin is a pleasant contrast to you … she brought changes and has more executive experience than you and she is only running to be VP …

He’s now against every major piece of legislation that he’s ever sponsored. He’s promised to vote against his own bills coming up in the Senate. He’s embraced the same people who slimed him and his own family in the hopes that they’ll do the same thing to someone else, and allow him to just move into the White House already.
Why, what kind of reform where you looking for?

That’s a bit awkward if you’re going to try to conduct international relations with our allies in the Middle East, or try to have peace talks with Israel and Palestine.

I love watching them squirm and try to excuse the Rev. Wright (HIS mentor) and their 20 year membership in that church.
A church SO BAD that even OPRAH left.
Wow.”
The only way that they could excuse him is if they actually believe that Wright is right. Which brings us back to that they must hate America.

The bottom line is – Obama won’t win. In fact not only will he lose, but he’ll lose by a wide margin. People will come out of the woodwork to vote against this flake.

I heard Sarah Palin speak at a McCain rally in Washington Pennsylvania today…
It was the “exact same speech” she gave as her acceptance speech yesterday, but not delivered as well… Today the crowd booed loudly when she came to her tired line praising Hillary Clinton!
So what kind of a joke is this? McCain offers us some “pretty” one trick pony?
She recanted the same tired story, the same LIE about the bridge to nowhere.
She actually supported the bridge in 2006, but when the focus came on it and federal funds were cut, she ran away from that support at full speed!
http://thinkprogress.org/2008/08/30/palin-wanted-nowhere-bridges/
What is this, some kind of an ill conceived beauty pageant? Also McCain just bumbled through his introduction of her as well, making mistake after mistake, just very sad to see…
Now he wants us to vote for him and his rah, rah “yes woman” cheerleader with ZERO National and Foreign Policy experience??
I don’t think so…..
We need real change in Washington and a real vision – not some ambiguous promise to “reform things.” I guess this is his “new ” campaign theme now?

MM, your post is hilarious. You just said I gave you no reason to vote for McCain and yet I gave you a whole list.
Go ahead and vote for the empty suit Mr. Obama who has accomplished nothing but is a good speaker.
If you like a guy who belongs to a radical America hating church for 20 years and doesn’t flinch, if you like a guy who hangs around and has fundraisers with guys who bombed the Capitol, who says America makes him want to puke….then GO AHEAD!!
But most people won’t vote for him, and I guarantee you, in the end, he’ll lose.
Thank you God.

So she doesn’t have 300 advisers writing speeches for her. And at least it was her speech that she was repeating, and not Deval Patrick’s. What a loser.

Posted by: Mack | August 30, 2008, 10:46 pm 10:46 pm

MM,
McCain has been around a long, long time. I don’t always agree with him, but I respect the hell out of him and I KNOW he loves this country.
It’s YOU who know nothing about Obama, and if you watch the mainstream media, they’ll never tell you the truth about him.
It took Fox News (Sean Hannity) to research the church Obama attends for 20 years. The media had no problem dragging Mitt Romney’s church affiliation and religion through the mud, but they couldn’t be bothered to check out Obama’s church. How fascinating.
Obama will lose and I predict he’ll lose by a wide margin. And that’s all I care about.
Vote for whoever you want. I got the truth on my side.

Dannity – My response to Jo’s claims got lost for some reason. There’s no way that Palin is exceeding Biden in the polls. Back to the USA Today polls, Biden’s confidence levels are in the 60% range as opposed to her 30% range, which is a historical low for any confidence vp poll. Her low confidence levels, according to USA, are similar to Dan Quayle’s. There’s no way any link could be produced for support.

The election season has gotten a lot funnier with her selection. Some of her views (e.g., man does not contribute to global warming, doesn’t believe in evolution, …) , suggest that she might also think that Earth is flat.
To call this woman a Neanderthal would be giving her too much credit. I cannot wait until she cuts loose with some of her crazy ideas.

Obama’s team seems worried about this pick. The conservatives really like her and are proud of her record. It’s great that she’s a reformer and takes on corruption and wasteful spending. People everywhere I went today, was talking about her with true excitement! So refreshing to see that.
I still cannot believe that Obama didn’t pick Hillary. Why do the libs hate her or whatever. I wish Hillary would had fought back (not to make it good for the GOP)-to stand up to Peloski and Dean.

This pick by Mr. McCain says a lot about his judgment, or lack thereof. To pick a former mayor of a town of 9,000 and a governor of with a population of half the size of Brooklyn, 120,000, really shows what kind of decisions we could expect from this man, were he to be elected. And for a man with major health problems, the need for an experienced VP is paramount!

I think Palin will be a great leader in the 3rd world… like Eva Peron in Argentina in 1950′. She has guts and charisma,,, but look at her stand points on many issues.. they are not for America in 21st century.

Another rich one found in Richard’s comment about Stepford Wives and how “McCain obviously feels more comfortable with the plot…” Just try to describe Palin as a Stepford Wife. This is a woman who makes waves, this is a woman whose husband is “First Dude,” this is a woman they’re trying to trash for being in public office instead of being a traditional mom. If you want to try sticking the Stepford label somewhere, try it on Michelle Obama since her transformation and her warm speech at the convention. It won’t even stick on her because she’s not that good at acting.

The Liberals don’t get it …
Picking Palin is not about appeasement of the Obama camp.
It is about electrifying the Republican Party’s mighty social conservative powerbase, AND unleashing a stunning torrent of campaign cash, as the McCain camp raised a staggering US$7 million in the day-and-a-half since Mr McCain named Mrs Palin on Friday.

Posted by: stock_craft | August 31, 2008, 2:41 am 2:41 am

It seems to me the most important part of the Palin pick is it has electrified the GOP base. But I think McCain would be in big trouble if the base didn’t come out this year, so thats hardly a big deal. Will it connect to the centre, and bring in some of the indies, well I don’t know, it depends if she is an empty skirt or not. If she is for real, and the evidence I have seen so far suggests she isn’t, then it could still be a very close election. Though I still think the top of the ticket will carry far more weight, and the judgement will be Obama v McCain, and i still think in the end that Obama will win that fight.

I am a dedicated Obama supporter, but I strongly resent the smears and derrogative remarks being made against Sarah Palin. I know Senator Obama resents them, too, as he’s often been victim of smears and disparagement himself. Sexist comments, baseless insults, and lies have no place in a national debate that decides the future of our country. Part of the reason I support Senator Obama is his deep respect for women and his plans to help women secure the benefits and opportunities that his own mother and grandmother were denied.

I think its very evident and clear now that the Obama campaign are worried about this election. John McCain definitely made the right choice with Sarah Palin. Being a lifelong member of the NRA, blue-collar husband, champion for womens rights, took on the BIG oil companies and defeated them…Palin’s resume’ is thicker and better than Obama’s and will literally tear Big Mouth Biden to shreds in debates. Just heard this morning that Palin is pulling a lot of Hillary voters her way, and that Pennsylvania and Ohio will most likely go red this year. I love it! The fake Obama is being vetted and he can’t stand it! Sorry, Obama, but I think Chicago needs you more than America does!

A true test for both candidates and their running mates is going to be how they handle Gustov’s barrage on the gulf coast. Let’s see if McCain opens up his seven houses to displaced Americans and if Obama volunteers a few million of his campaign funds.
Secondly, Palin is a wonderful American, but was solely picked from a political perspective to attract Hillary supporters upset with Obama for not picking her as his running mate. Stop for a minute and think….which ticket is the best in assuring our children, the next generation…. providing them a nation free from the bondage of foreign oil and affording them every opportunity to become whatever they want to be without political entanglements.

Governor Palin appears to be very well-spoken, an advocate of political reform and yes a self-described hockey mom. She wouldn’t have the approval rating she has among her constituents if everyone in the state felt as the newspapers there are trying to portray.
From what I hear, the only negatives from them about her nomination is that most of them are afraid they will lose her!

What’s the difference between a male presidential candidate with little to no foreign poliy experience and a woman VP candidate with little or no foreign policy experience! Guess it’s obvious why Obama can’t say too much!!
Obama should have chosen Clinton as his VP- he could have won this election by a landslide! His own ego is very obvious!!

Posted by: Angela | August 31, 2008, 7:03 am 7:03 am

Well, if Obama was actually qualified to be President and didn’t have to choose an experienced babysitter as a running mate, perhaps he could have chosen Kathleen Sebelius as his running mate.
After all, Sebelius has been neglecting her duties as Governor of Kansas to campaign and swoon for Obama in hopes of getting a new job now that her tenure as Governor of Kansas is to become victim of term limitations.
And, Sebelius will not be able to secure one of the Kansas Senate seats as she has made significant enemies all over the state with her veto of the proposed energy plants in Western Kansas.
Sebelius could have given Obama what would keep the ruler of the Obama household (Michelle) happy as Sebelius would do what she was told and stay out of the spotlight, unlike that Senator from New York.
How amusing to watch the implosion of the Obama regime in slow motion…and with such unexpected direction…
What will Axelrove do now?

The VP’s office becomes a daycare center. I can see a national security discussion being interrupted due to diaper changing or feeding time or maybe a dignitary visit; McCain choice simply panders to the Evangelical Christian groups, the same folks who prayed for rain over Denver’s Invesco Field only to have a hurricane disrupt the RNC convention. These folks have big issues to deal with and need to stop trying to overtake the United States with their narrow views of a wide world. McCain/Palin are a disaster in the making.

As a mom, I can’t see how she can take care of a special needs child and run for VP. Down syndrome or not, a baby needs his mother in the formative years. If you don’t have a choice, I can understand. She has a choice, even though she seems to have a good support system, it seems it’s all about her and not her newborn. Secondly, I can deal with guns and hunting, but the image of her and a gun, again….as a mom myself – when children are being killed in schools and streets, I’m not impressed.

She recanted the same tired story and the same LIE about the bridge to nowhere.
She lied she actually supported the bridge in 2006, but when the focus came on it and federal funds were cut, she ran away from that support at full speed!
http://thinkprogress.org/2008/08/30/palin-wanted-nowhere-bridges/
What is this, some kind of an ill conceived beauty pageant? This is what McCain calls Country First? He chooses a “hockey mom” to be one heartbeat away from the Presidency?? This is a Joke, right?
Now he wants us to vote for him and his rah, rah “yes woman” cheerleader with ZERO National and Foreign Policy experience??
I don’t think so…..
We need real change in Washington and a real vision – not some ambiguous promise to “reform things.” I guess this is his “new ” campaign theme now?
Obama/Biden 2008!!!!!!!!

Data from Rasmussen Markets currently gives Obama a 60.3% chance of winning in November.

I’m all for McCain and Palin. For those that don’t think she is experienced enough…remember Presidents Clinton and George W. were both Governors first. Bill Clinton remarked the other night that nobody is ever ready for the office of President.
Palin may be Vice-President. If the two former Presidents can take office coming out of Governorship, why not Palin for Vice? The Democrats are always shouting about how America needs change! They will get that change with McCain and Palin. They won’t with Obama and Biden. Also…Obama may be great at speeches, but Palin delivers.
She is the go-getter that this country needs.

After criticizing Obama for alleged inexperience, McCain chooses Sarah Palin as his running mate? She’s a nice enough lady, I guess. But she’s not even remotely qualified.
Beyond that, I am puzzled by the notion that McCain chose Palin to appeal to disgruntled supporters of Hillary Clinton. Think about what Hillary Clinton stands for and what Sarah Palin stands for. They’ve got just about nothing in common. Palin wants to outlaw abortion. That’s right: she wants to put people in prison for having an abortion!. She supports wacko ideas of the wingnut right like advocating teaching creationism in public schools. She’s LITERALLY in bed with the oil industry — her husband is an oil company manager.
Why would any Clinton supporter, whether male or female, possibly support Palin?

CHANGE, CHANGE, CHANGE is what democrats have been shoving down our throats for a year. What does Obammma do? Pick a 65 year old hairplug corpse.
What does McCain do? Picks a new, exciting, non-Washington, outsider. In other words, he picks CHANGE.
She has a family and babies – can’t have that in Washington, according to you woman hating democrats.
Sorry, you would make an exception for Hitlery.

A comment from boortz.com
Then there’s Obama’s line about the Republicans and McCain not proposing one penny of tax relief for over 100 million Americans. Sounds good. But if you’re educated; if you know the statistics; if you pay attention you will know that the bottom 50% of income earners in this country pay only about 3% of all individual income taxes collected by the federal government. When you get to the bottom 40% that percentage figures drops to zero. Now just what is our current population figure? Around 300 million or so? That would bean that about 120 million Americans have no federal income tax liability at all. Yet there’s Obama saying that McCain is offering no tax relief to these people. Relief from what?

Additional comment
Now here’s one part of the Obama speech that was particularly clever. As you know, we’ve been talking about Obama’s plan to raise taxes on the very people, small businessmen and women, who are providing about 80% of the new jobs our economy is producing. Obama’s response last night was to say that “I will eliminate capital gains taxes for the small businesses and start-ups that will create the high-wage, high-tech jobs of tomorrow.”
Here, again, is where the ignorance of the American voter comes into play. I can just hear some of my listeners now: “That Neal Boortz said that Obama was going to raise taxes these small businessmen. Obama said he is going to eliminate him. There! I knew it! Boortz is a liar!”
Pay attention now. Obama said he was going to eliminate capital gains taxes. These small businessmen generally don’t pay capital gains taxes. They pay income taxes. Obama’s plan is to raise the income taxes on these entrepreneurs. Telling the American people that he will cut their capital gains taxes is simply a charade; a charade the uneducated will buy.

This is like a game of chess. Since the congress(which is mostly democrats)
approval rate is lower than George Bush…all you have to do make is throw the most liberal senator in with the liberal congress…and you dont have change you have a rubberstamped congress voting “Business as Usual in Washington”.
Now you put into play someone(Govenor Palin) that doesnt reek of Washington politics and you have the Americans
interest put first…you have a checkmate. Looks like the last stratagy
is what the people want and the game
is won.

We saw the picture of her in google images. She does have experience in a flight simulator! John McCain can train her in less then 10 weeks to fly!

Wow! I am so proud of my republican friends, giving the same arguments that they have all along! they prove that the right wing strategy of following blindly and shouting down your opponent make you look..Strong!
Some people say that Strong is synonymous with jackass. good thing that synonym conains the word Sin. i can keep living my closed minded existance and not have to think, just listen to the loudest voice.
McCain/Palin! Let the Right Wing bring about the rapture, by undoing the emancipation procloamation and extending it over the entire middle class, regardless of race, color or faith!

To MM:
Yes, Canada has universal health care – and their tax rate is 42% – 52% for each resident.
And one other thing:
Statement from Communist Party USA (CPUSA):
“The Communist Party USA views the 2008 elections as a tremendous opportunity to defeat the policies of the right-wing Republicans and to move our country in a new progressive direction.
The record turnout in the Democratic Presidential primary races shows that millions of voters, including millions of new voters, are using this election to bring about real change. We wholeheartedly agree with them.”

Who is sarah palin? Judging from her life story, she is one sorry, selfish individual. 1st thought,No woman in their right mind after age of 40 should even consider having children knowing that the chance of down syndrome increases exponentially with every year. and after having four already ,she should have just adopted. The poor kid was set up for failure way before conception. I feel bad for the kid but for momi, she got what she deserved. 2nd thought, any person that tatle tales on others for their own gains makes them untrustworthy and selfish. her tactics might have worked in alaska but nationally, politics is a dirty game if u can’t play it the good old boys way then maybe u shouldn’t play with the boys.3rd thought, we don’t need a premenopausal woman in the white house. Hillary would have been tolerable since her hormones aren’t wacky anymore. Peace to all.

What in the world was John McCain thinking when he chose her. There were so many better candidates. Given his age – why would he pick her.

Looks like the decision of giving birth to a baby after getting pregnant is a harder and more admiral decision than
not having to deal with it by getting an abortion.
If any of us were ever in that babys..position..Ill bet we hope our
mom was pro-life..

I think there is truth that you are known by the friends you keep.As long as Sarahs friends arent anything like Obamas friends (Bill Ayres, Rev. Wright,
etc.)we know we can trust her.

A 43 yr old woman having a kid is like two midgets having children. Its just not fair to the kids! peace.

Posted by: lou | August 31, 2008, 3:58 pm 3:58 pm

Tamara, I’m not knocking palin for having the child. I’m knocking her for getting pregnant at 43. lets analyze down syndrome. they have iq’s similar to that of a toddler, shorten life spans, recurrent lung infections, heart problems, infertile. they generally die before 40yrs of age.very poor quality of life. I just don’t think the palin’s conceived her by mistake. they selfishly made a decision to get pregnant despite the risk. if i were a baby i would not want to be in that position.

Unless you were in their bedroom the
night that baby was conceived you’ll
never know if it was planned or not.
Her decision to have the baby is still more admiral then Obama’s decision to
call a baby that was born alive after
a botched abortion a “fetus.” In a fathers day speech, he said fatherhood begins at conception. Then when asked when conception begins he said he couldnt answer that because it was above his paygrade. Yet if fatherhood begins at conception..isnt he conceiving a baby? He was the only senator to sign papers that says if a baby is born after a botched abortion,it has no human rights. If he feels that baby has no rights at that time, he surely wont value rights of an older person who he thinks doesnt matter. Values are values. If somebody doesnt value a young life, why would they value a really old life. Also, there have been down syndrome babies born to people who were a lot younger than 40. Normal babies have been born to women over 40. As much as we would like to, we cant play God.

Jim its time to let that rev Wright stuff go. it is played out. This is how blacks practice their faith. they find strength in listening to negative comments on white people. it is morally uplifting to them after all those years of continued oppression. thats what gets them through sometimes. do you eat at Dennys, or buy reebok products who once were avid supporters of apartheid. well when that came to light blacks quit buying their stuff but whites continued to buy reeboks despite these revelations. If a man tells you he didn’t hear those negative comments over the past twenty year then u must take a man by his word unless of course u r a republican.

Posted by: harry | August 31, 2008, 4:43 pm 4:43 pm

Kelly, I agree. I saw where the baby of the botched abortion was put in a dirty linen room to die. This nurse picked it up a held it till it died. The nurse was so upset she went to congress to try to get rights for babies like this.
Guess who was the only guy who didnt sign the bill. Your guess is right. It
was NOBAMA! He called a baby that was already born a fetus.

Posted by: Taylor H. | August 31, 2008, 4:54 pm 4:54 pm

ok kelly, i wasn’t in the bedroom, but i know 40 yr old people don’t get pregnant by mistake. if obama didn’t support the born alive bill in the past, well he does now, google it if u want. we as human beings have the right to change our minds and take different positions. this is called growing up. u can call it flip flop if u want, but i know obama is on the right side of that whole fetus issue now, especially after getting burned by it. he’s grown up alot lately hasn’t he. regarding that whole conception thing he got it right on fathers day even a 5th grader knows conception starts when sperm meets egg. don’t know what he was thinking.

Posted by: lou | August 31, 2008, 5:43 pm 5:43 pm

Why don’t we let that botched baby stuff go. obama has long since signed that born alive bill which gives all babies born human rights. how would you like it if someone held things in your past against you after you redeemed yourself. we would never progress as humans would we. imagine blacks holding a grudge against whites for all that slavery stuff. let it go. obama no longer takes that position. google it if you want. mccain apologized for not signing the MLK holiday bill . and i respect him for it and its now a null issue with me. get it.

Posted by: lou | August 31, 2008, 6:02 pm 6:02 pm

I hope you do more than google before
you vote for the president of the USA.
or you will get it in the end.Get It?

Posted by: Kelly | August 31, 2008, 6:10 pm 6:10 pm

that McCain almost got my vote. he screwed up with the palin choice. i kinda liked tom ridge. hmm, i’m really puzzled by this choice maybe this is a hoax or a dream or something. i just pinched myself and it hurts. boy o boy we’ll be in big trouble having a premenopausal finger on the button. god help america now. obama/biden 08

Posted by: tony | August 31, 2008, 6:16 pm 6:16 pm

you’re on point tony. remember hillary wanting to obliterate IRAN, wow that was a strong word. but shes post menopausal isn’t she. maybe a woman is a bad idea all together. imagine mccain sick somewhere with palin giving orders i think it should be god bless america then.
