Obama’s Big Night – What Did You Think?

It is the morning after…and before you tune in to all the next-day analysis of the speech and entire night take a minute to register your thoughts.  How did Obama do?   Was the night effective in conveying the Democrats platform for the fall?    Looking for your thoughts on last night AND what is likely to shape up as a major day for John McCain (announcement of his running mate expected). Be heard.

The only thing missing was the red carpet, and a little gold statue. I thought it was too over the top. He wasn’t my choice during the primary season, he is not my choice now. His speech, well, same political speech, different political players. The only “change” are the names.

Disappointing. It was certainly not inspirational and it had little of the spirit of MLK, on the anniversary of the “I have a Dream Speech.” I’m tired of hearing about the failed past, we need an inspiring vision for the future that has some real substance and content.

Didn’t watch the Cubs were on! Did see some of it on the news this morning and wasn’t too impressed. He said a bunch of things that he would do but never really said how he was going to do it. That’s like me praying for world peace every day and nothing happens to change it. Any way Cubs win!

The Republicans are alreay up and running scared. Some fake Christains prayed for rains to disrupt the Democratic convention but instead the Republicans now have a fear of having theirs disrupted. If this was God’s answer to their prayers, I ask everyone both Democrats and Republicans to pray for a reversal. The worst thing that can happen to America is another Katrina. God bless America.

OB is a greatest speech reader but after a while, things get boring with the same theme CHANGE, CHANGE and the same blame-game on accused-failure of Bush. Greatest showcase to cover up what may be missing underneath…

Open your ears next time…you obviously missed one of the most powerful speeches meant for a 21st century mentality. What is with you people — “never really said how he was going to do it” — did you not hear him outline at a very high level how he was going to do it? How low and substantive can you get when there are so many problems to fix now b/c of the Bush/Cheney mess left in Washington. McCain == George Bush, that’s all there is to know. If you are voting for McCain b/c you think he will offer something more, you are sadly mistaken, and wrong. Go back to watching Cubs games.

Great Speech. Delivered a specific path for change. Countered all of McCains petty attack ads and is ready to take him head on.
Guys like rockthebleacher above who watched the Cubs game and then comments on specifics that he didnt see, shows the stupidity that drives the GOP base.

Since I missed the parting of the sea did he mention this?
While Barack Obama will talk about his plans to tax the ‘rich’ and cut taxes on the middle class, he will not say that his record includes voting for higher taxes 94 times and voting for a tax increase on those making just $42,000 per year.”

Posted by: rockthebleachers | August 29, 2008, 7:29 am 7:29 am

When the temple comes down, the fireworks end and the words are over, the facts remain: Sen. Obama still has no record of bipartisanship, still opposes offshore drilling, still voted to raise taxes on those making just $42,000 per year and still voted against funds for American troops in harm’s way.
Obama told supporters, “As commander in chief, I will never hesitate to defend this nation, but I will only send our troops into harm’s way with a clear mission and a sacred commitment to give them the equipment they need in battle and the care and benefits they deserve when they come home.”
Sounds I little different from what he has actually done.

I continue to be amazed by the number of people who are so enraptured by the promise of an action that they treat any critic of that promise as someone denying a fact. So far, it’s words, words, words. When the pretty promises have become concrete actions, THEN I’ll be impressed.

No, he did not proclaim himself to be Moses. That’s Mccain negative ad. He did not discuss why his camp using department of justice to force the AIP to pull the William Ayers ad of the air either. Talk about first amendement suppresssion in the 21st century. That’s a big CHANGE.

Best nomination speech I have ever heard. Filled with specifics.

Posted by: MJ | August 29, 2008, 7:43 am 7:43 am

Absolutely fantastic speech. He did exactly what he needed to do: inspired, laid out specifc policy proposals, and called out mccain and bush for their omissions and failures. Anyone who heard the speech and denies it was a great political speech is denying a very obvious truth.

Can’t wait to see what loser McCain picks for a running mate. There is no way, no how, that McCain can win. It’s time for the Democrats to try to fix the disaster the Republicans have created.

funny
to see a bunch of repubs above…actually and literally jealous.
lol
the first time in a long time we actually have someone who is making so much sense
and who speaks so much to the best character of our country running for President
and all they can do is make fun of it.
why don’t you just make fun of all of the American flags that stood flying in people’s hands last night.
or the fact that 40,000 of those people got registered to vote last night and had to promise to volunteer for a week just to get in.
lol
JUST FROM the swing state of COLORADO ALONE
and now it’s on the repub side it’s down to
The Trust Fund Baby ticket….

trettion
what are you talking about he thanked Hillary (and Bill) at the beginning of the speech…you obviously didn’t even hear the speech.
oy…

Pathetic? I think not. This was the top story on Entertainment Tonite? See the word “entertainment”?. That is exactly what it was….entertainment. All you have to do is “change” the names in the speech, and, there is your “change”. Same politics, different players. Kinda disappointed he didn’t turn water into wine last night.

Why do we have the suppressed biography of Obama’s life, and his belated dumping of Jeremiah Wright, Bill Ayers, Tony Rezko, and even teenage mentor Frank Davis. The “bitter clinger” sneer at Pennsylvanians. Smearing Bill Clinton as a racist. Trying to intimidate the Milt Rosenberg show on Chicago radio station WGN, just because the host was interviewing Stanley Kurtz about the Bill Ayers alliance.
Two nights ago Michelle O discovered her inner Jackie O, but not before revealing her entrenched anger for all to see. It was a great performance, but nobody who’s been paying attention to the lady believed it. When this campaign gets in trouble it becomes Stalinesque and starts to stamp on its critics.
we always get suckered by our elected leaders like George W. Bush — so now they will sucker us even better than ever before.

he still has not said what change. all you hear is “changes are coming” and how many people really believe that clinton meant what he said. he happens to be a fine actor. i doubt that in his heart he believes what he said. words are cheap.

Posted by: fran | August 29, 2008, 8:43 am 8:43 am

Wow, It was fantastic!!! How much did that cost? Where did that money come from? Really, where did it exactly come from? The stadium, the guards, screeners, concerts, security, fireworks, and the list goes on and on. I live in a small community who would really love to have some of that money to fund much needed projects. Our fire and police protection. Green energy projects. I am happy for him but I really believe it was extravagant. John McCain is going to have to cancel his convention. Gee, maybe some of the money spent at Obamas could go to the hurricane relief we are really going to need from the looks of it. What a waste.

I wasn’t sure which way I would vote, but, now my mind is made up.I think Barack Obama did a great job on his speech.I’m 100% on his side.GREAT JOB BARACK!!!!!!!!!

Barack Obama – what a slam-dunk!! Very, very impressive. I see this guy as exactly what he says – HOPE AND CHANGE. No one can deny that this country is going in a VERY wrong direction. We need all the help we can get. And John McCain’s pitiful attempt to attract women voters by naming Sarah Palin as his VP candidate is a real sign of his desperation.

Brenda, are you talking about what he said, how loud he yelled, how slick that silk suit was or the GREEK TEMPLE?? It reminded me of the set Michael Jackson used in one of his videos……
But then Obama *IS* just a celebrity.

I heard this morning he got about 34 millions viewers?
Micheal Phelps got 44 millions.

I think it was great, right on time, touched all of the important aspects needing to be addressed. And at one point in the speech another african american leader who’d made a run for office some years ago came to mind. I could see he too had been a contributor to Obama’s heritage. Although the ball wasn’t hit out of the park when he & others went to bat, he helped set the stage for the next generation to be up at bat to make the same attempt, something to be proud of.History has shown time and time again the vision birthing in one generation & manifesting generations later at the appropriate time. The DNC August 28,2008 presidential nominee acceptance by Barak Obama was the culmination or rather another advancement of that vision and as far as I’m concerned he hit the ball out of the park. This is the first time in my 40+ years on this earth that I watched most a national political conference & even made a contribution. I was on the road to becoming more involved anyway but this current race actually lit the fire under me & propelled me to fully act. I will also add that this thing is about all of us. We are a team: the white collar worker & the blue collar worker, our seniors & our children. Let us not demonize our corporate & otherwise leaders. But rather let us all take these words of instruction from the wisest word that graces our world for the common good (Proverbs 29:18 “Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” Colossians 3:22 “Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God:… ” Colossians 4:1 “Masters, give unto your servants that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven.”
Ephesians 6:5-9 Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; 6:6 Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; 6:7 With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men: 6:8 Knowing that whatsoever * * good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free. 6:9 And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your * * Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him. Romans 13 13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God *: the powers that be are ordained of God.
13:2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. 13:3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:
13:4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid ; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. 13:5 therefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. 13:6 For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God’s ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. 13:7 Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour. 13:8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. Matthew 20:27 And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: Mr 10:43 But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister)… Whomever becomes america’s nnext leader, unless we do the following we will never reach the true goal of freedom. 2 Chronicles
7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

I am Mexican but know more of USA political than many Americans…I watch ABC good morning America every morning since long time ago…and will like to share with you my thoughts…I can’t see Obama’s wife no matter how nice she can be as a first lady of the United Stated, cant see her in the white house and I am nonracist just maybe because my age I will like to see a American Anglo Sajon stereotype of USA…and about McCain /Paulin love it we said in Mexico “ for a sample a button is enough” means Mc Can have the experience and maybe the eye and intuition to make the right choice…. Paulin has been a governor of a State Obama what? Just Senator. Paulin A governor of a few people…but a governor If you order a cup of soup will give you a normal soup spoon If we order a bowl the spoon will be bigger?? Or same size spoon? Same I mean hope you can use this to let the people know that she is able and capable to be a VP
