The Note: VP Guessing Game Keeps GOP in Headlines
ABC News’ Rick Klein reports in Friday’s Note:
DENVER —
Now that we know Sen. Barack Obama is going to fight for this thing, we’re about to see why he’ll need to.
No rest for the weary leaving Denver for St. Paul: It was Obama’s night on Thursday, but as the confetti wafts down the mountain, Friday is Sen. John McCain’s day — since he’ll have someone to share it with, at last.
The birthday boy puts his veep out at a noontime ET joint rally in Dayton, Ohio — and away we go all over again (if the GOP can buy any luck with the weather).
And the process-of-elimination/obfuscation game resumes in full force: Gov. Tim Pawlenty, R-Minn., called it a “fair assumption” that he wasn’t it, since he isn’t going to Dayton on Friday: “It was an honor to be considered,” he told a local radio station.
He got the formal call from McCain Friday morning — told he was not going to be the selection, per ABC’s Jan Crawford Greenburg.

Fox News’ Carl Cameron reports that former Gov. Mitt Romney, R-Mass., is in Boston, Friday and won’t be in Dayton — and isn’t the pick. ABC’s George Stephanopoulos confirms that Romney is not in Ohio on Friday — and a source tells Jan Crawford Greenburg that Romney hasn’t been chosen.
No Huckster, either: “There are reports that I’m on my way to Dayton tonight. Not true,” former Gov. Mike Huckabee, R-Ark., wrote late Thursday in a message to supporters. “Wasn’t invited to be there, and any reports that I’m going to be there are a big surprise to me. I have never been contacted by the McCain campaign at any point about the VP slot.”
And a plane from Alaska had the overnight/early morning buzz on Gov. Sarah Palin, R-Alaska; Karl Rove tells Fox News that it “smells like” it’s her.
But ABC’s Kate McCarthy reports that, per Palin spokeswoman Sharon Leighow, Palin is at home in Wasilla, Alaska, on Friday, with plans to attend the Alaska State Fair — and won’t be in Dayton, either.

A lot of those disenfranchised women are going to looooooove this ticket!! Go McCain!
Posted by: Hman | August 29, 2008, 6:16 am 6:16 am
I like the former eBay exec as McCain’s VP choice. She can help him auction off American jobs overseas.
Gee, I wonder why McCain wants to choose a woman now? The transparency of his campaign is pathetic.
And Karl Rove can’t “smell” anything but his own stench.
Posted by: Luke W | August 29, 2008, 6:20 am 6:20 am
Palin would be a terribly cynical choice for McCain. Out the window goes the inexperience argument. Traded for the belief that former Clinton supporters will support a ticket with which they disagree on nearly every point, and why? Because there’s a *woman* there. Don’t look at the issues, how about that gender!
A Palin pick is a pick out of desperation. Sorry, but people just aren’t that stupid.
Posted by: Steve | August 29, 2008, 6:21 am 6:21 am
Many in the media are reporting sincere frustration as the McCain camp is putting out false information regarding the VP. This is bad for ALL of us as the media “sources” will have every reason to be skeptical of anything McCain puts out.
Posted by: Jennifer | August 29, 2008, 6:23 am 6:23 am
With Palin on the ticket, and Barack Obama passing up the most qualified woman to be VP (and more qualified than he is to be VP), you better believe women will defect from Obama to McCain.
Add to that the most recent comments by Biden insulting the VP slot. LOL
Posted by: JA | August 29, 2008, 6:24 am 6:24 am
So Radar, Fox news is reporting that her staff cannot confirm her whereabouts this morning. And you forgot to say in your previous report that the spokesperson who was asked in the middle of the night where her boss was said, “as far as i know”. Does John McCain tell spokespeople where his VP pick is or give them permission to tell reporters? Just wondering?
Posted by: s.b. | August 29, 2008, 6:25 am 6:25 am
This has to be a joke. Palin would take Obama experience and ability to conduct foreign policy out the window.
Palin prior to her two years as governor was mayor of the town of Wassila, Alaska. I’m sorry, that is so podunk it would be a Barry Goldwater moment for McCain (not in a good way).
Posted by: Mr. Coffee | August 29, 2008, 6:26 am 6:26 am
Hilarious. After weeks of smearing Obama as an unqualified “celebrity”, McCain is going to suggest that if he keeled over, control of the entire USA should go to the former mayor of a town of 3,000 people who does fashion spreads for Vogue.
He’s already married to a beauty pageant contestant with no political experience and a history of criminal investigations. Why didn’t he just pick his own wife?
Posted by: August J. Pollak | August 29, 2008, 6:27 am 6:27 am
McCain’s VP choice I believe is Joe Lieberman. He is in Ohio.

With Palin on the ticket, you have a 72 year old nominee with about the most unqualified VP choice he could pick. Hillary was substantive – that is what made her great. If McCain picks Palin, he will confirm his true and total lack of judgement. McCain/Palin- Bridges to Nowhere.
Posted by: PAIN w/Palin | August 29, 2008, 6:30 am 6:30 am
So he’s wants to pick an anti-abortion woman as his VP?
I hope other women aren’t stupid enough to fall for this. Someone who is AGAINST WOMEN’S RIGHTS will not help our cause.
The Republicans are much too scary to allow them to retain the power of the Presidency. President’s last 4 years, Supreme Court justices can be there for decades!
Besides, McCain only got into the academy because of his admiral father. He was in the BOTTOM 1% of his class. What business would consider making him their CEO? (The answer is NONE!) And some people think he can govern the most powerful and complex nation in the world?
Haven’t we had learned yet what electing an idiot does for America? Or are half of the people in this country just easily manipulated lemmings?
Start with the word “freedom”, “terrorism”, or “patriotic” and some folks will apparently believe anything that follows.

Mccain Palin
lol lol lol
Are you kidding?!
She is against almost every women’s issue out there. She is a posterchild for women who subjegate their choices and lives to men.
lol
She would do …what? In an international crisis?
do we have a single stitch of evidence of her capabilities or judgement or experience dealing with vast and diversified economic issues outside freaking ALASKA?!…
and proven track record or ability to motivate people or judgments on a level that we would need…if this older caniddate had to suddenly leave office…
that THIS WOMAN oy…could step in one a global stage.
Palin is a joke and if this is the kind of judgment McCain would make …picking a woman just because she is a woman and overwhelmingly with lack of understanding on a national and international stage…
would we even need to have an election lol after McCain sells out the country for a political stunt…to get himself elected.

Mccain’s choices are bad …or worse.
so today is all about how bad of a pick did he choose…

As a woman, I find this offensive for John McCain to think that women across America would get his vote just because he chose a woman as his VP. I would be fearful that if anything did happen to McCain during his presidency (if he were elected), an inexperienced woman would be in charge of running our country. Barack Obama is going to get my vote!
Posted by: a.d. | August 29, 2008, 6:36 am 6:36 am
So, McCain is picking Palin? I guess the Republicans think that experience is overrated too. They want a 44-year-old 1st-term governor with no foreign policy experience to back up 72-year-old McCain? I wonder how Hillary’s supporters are feeling about this. Considering that McCain is 72 years old, Palin might becom the first female president of the United States if McCain wins but for some reason cannot finish out his term.
Posted by: anthony | August 29, 2008, 6:37 am 6:37 am
If he picks Ridge he is saying that the Bush aggressive and blindered security bologne of the last 8 years was good.
Since he would be picking the biggest face of those choices.
If he picks Romney
“The Trust Fund Baby” Ticket
If he picks Palin
“The Pray he doesn’t have a heart attack” Ticket
If he picks Lieberman
the “we will win with 3 families from Boca and the couple of thousand people who had dinner with him over the years in connecticut and NARAL/Committee for Liberation of Iraq Lobbyists” ticket…
because no one else is voting for him.

I should have checked my spelling in my earlier post. I meant Palin might become the first female president of the United States if 72-year-old McCain wins but cannot finish his term. I heard that she was a former beauty pageant contestant. Didn’t Cindy McCain win a beauty pageant? So I guess it is true that McCain really has a thing for former beauty pageant contestants.

Sarah Palin 44 years old (younger then Obama). Was a mayor of a town with a population of 3,000. Govenor of a small state for one and a half years.
How will she debate with Biden? It’s almost laughable.
At least with Romney there was some sort of credibility.
McCain has just wiped out the “inexperienced” factor for himself.

Steve: “A Palin pick is a pick out of desperation…”
I suspect a lot of folks are going to see it that way. Will be interesting to see the initial reactions, but my initial reaction is this is probably a political mistake.
Being seen trying to pander to Clinton supporters seems to cheapen McCain’s view of the responsibilities of the office.
Now, that’s the cynical view. We also need to be open to the possibility that McCain really thinks she’s presidential material. And she may be – I know nothing about her.
But a lot of folks are going to see this cynically, I think.

My comment: McCain selected the wrong Alaskan; it should have been Stevens. He would have fit nicely in the aged Republican Camp and his legal troubles will distract from the inept philosophy of the political anemia which is a centerpiece of our RP. We don’t have a chance in November; how did we get into this mess?

“Being seen trying to pander to Clinton supporters seems to cheapen McCain’s view of the responsibilities of the office”
It also cheapens his “maverick” characteristic and demostrates a lack of judgement. If…god forbid McCain dies during the course of his presidency Palin becomes president. Someone with NO foreign policy credentials. Mayor of a town with the population of 3,000. And govenor of a small state for a year and a half. This is the biggest risk McCain has ever taken I believe and after a debate with Biden……. McCain has just handed Obama the presidency.

Obama is at the top of the ticket.
The President makes the decisions Not
the VP! The responsibilities of the VP

break tie votes in the Senate, and be
ready to take over as President if something happens to the President.
She has executive experience as she was

John McCain will school her in foreign

But what you dont realize is the fact that the vp for mccain was DOUBLY important for mccain because he is more likely to become incapcitated. Heck… he already showing signs of senility. The man doesn’t even know how many houses he have. I could see if he was a property enthusiast and had scores of houses. But it was seven or eight. He is a human gaffe machine. I attribute this to his age.
Palin comes into this VP slot with ZERO experience compared to BIDEN.
The dems ticket is stronger. A ticket built to serve america.
McCain is pandering just trying to get votes. Palin brings nothing but a reason for disgruntled hillary voter to cross over. THATS ALL.
Try again. That spin didn’t work

Your comments are nonsensical!
Obama is at the top of the ticket.
As president he would make the decisions
relying on his lack of experience to
make his decisions!
McCain as president would rely on his
many years in the Senate to make
foreign policy and domestic decisions!
The VP attends state funereals overseas,
breaks ties in the Senate, and is
available to take over as president if something happens to the president.
She also brings to the table executive experience that none of the Senators
have. She was a mayor and a governor and
therefore has experience preparing
budgets!
McCain hit it out of the park!

All week long we has seen some of the strongest women in the democratic party show their prominence at the convention. Hillary will have her pick at what ever she wants. Mind you this the FIRST time in history a WOMAN has been chosen for VP in the GOP. And wow… what a coincence. At the heels of a hotly contested primary where hillary didn’t get the nod for the DEMS.
THE GOP has a habit of being so blunt in their stupidity. Problem this year is that the whole country/world is taking notice and calling them on it.

Paul,
It is so obvious. He is pandering to women. He is so desperate.
Think about what she brings to his ticket. I know you are drawing a blank right now.
You are correct. She brings NOTHING.
Posted by: Omentum | August 29, 2008, 7:59 am 7:59 am
I’m not sure that Hillary voters will flock to this ticket en masse just because a woman is on it. If anything this just upstages HRC if Palin’s the first woman to be elected to an office higher than senator. And if McCain croaks or becomes incapacitated with Alzheimer’s then she becomes president.
Posted by: samurai | August 29, 2008, 8:05 am 8:05 am
Omentum – actually she does bring something. She’s got a little executive experience, and she’s something of a party maverick, bucking the Alaskan Republicans for their corruption.
Does that make a VP pick? I’m not sure. I think we’re all suspecting she wouldn’t have been picked if she was a he.
But any sitting governor has to be considered among a pool of potential picks, so this isn’t completely outlandish, either.

McCain/Palin: “This will be a fight for the SWING voters for sure.”
What election isn’t?
And, no, it wasn’t Obama who was considering Paris Hilton. In fact, John McCain has the distinction of being the first major party nominee to ever engage Paris Hilton in a back ‘n forth, and we all know he’s obsessed with celebrity. So if anything, McCain might have considered Hilton as a running mate.
But he went with Palin instead.

Me: “But he went with Palin instead.”
See, I’m not saying McCain can’t make a good decision every once in a while. Palin is definitely a better pick than Paris Hilton.
I’m just saying McCain frequently gets seething mad, sometimes over nothing, and its then his judgment goes out the window.
My advice to Palin – don’t comment on McCain’s hairline. That’s what got Cindy called a trollop and worse.
Posted by: Paul | August 29, 2008, 8:20 am 8:20 am
Paul: I agree, and the reason McCain gets seething mad frequently is that he has early stage Alzheimer’s.

By making this choice. McCain is saying he will go it alone in running the country. I don’t think that Palin can offer any advice that the likes of McCain would consider.
This increases the risks of the the state of the country if the President disappears.
Biden would be a safer pick than Palin. Anyone would agree.

Omentum: “I don’t think that Palin can offer any advice that the likes of McCain would consider.”
I don’t think anyone could offer McCain advice, especially if he’s mad (which happens all too often).
In Palin’s defense, a lot of vice presidents haven’t been involved in offering advice or anything like that. In fact, conventionally the vice president was just a stand-in in waiting. Clinton and Gore started to break that mold a little, and of course with Bush and Cheney we have lingering questions over which is president.
Hey, she may be the real deal, and let’s not demonize her just because she’s on the other side. She may be the president that will serve this country well, one day. She may be the president who could have served this president best next year. But she’s not on the top of the ticket, so we’ll have to worry about the John McCain temperment, should the GOP win.

Let’s kick the tires and look under the hood first.
Agreed

CuriousIndep – yep, McCain was the Democrats favorite Republican once upon a time, while Republican colleagues were warning the country about McCain’s temperment.
Given his reaction to Georgia, his encouragement of the Iraq invasion – let’s not forget McCain was way out in front of Bush in advocating an invasion of Iraq – I have to say on the question of McCain’s temperment, the Republicans got that one right eight years ago.

But I am resolute in saying that MCCAIN is a POWDER KEG waiting to blow. He is the ULTIMATE risk. Even riskier than dubya.

Omentum and other Obama supporters:
McCain is in excellant shape.
Ronald Reagan was 2 years younger
when he was elected and was 77 when
he left office(surviving an assasins
bullet to boot).
At least palin has youth on her side.
If something happens to Obama and
Biden has a heart attack Nancy Pelosi
would be president!
I’ll take my chances with McCain/Palin!

Curious – is BusinessWeek conservative enough for you? Here’s an article they ran in 1999:
It’s just after dawn in Hampton, N.H., and John McCain is coming off a bruising week. His fast rise in the polls has hit a speed bump: With McCain’s hometown paper questioning whether ”Senator Hothead” has the right stuff to be President, the temper that has been legendary in Washington suddenly is headline news.
Posted by: Paul | August 29, 2008, 8:47 am 8:47 am
And Curious, from that same article:
Eric Vaughn, the president of the Renewable Fuels Assn., says he can only guess that McCain established his anti-ethanol stance in the late ’80s, when 70% of ethanol came from agri-giant Archer Daniels Midland Co. Today, most ethanol production comes from farmer-owned co-operatives. ”If he’s going to attack the ethanol industry, at least he should attack us with updated information,” Vaughn sighs. ”I don’t have the impression that Mr. McCain has the benefit of all the information. But he does have the benefit of his convictions.”
Posted by: Paul | August 29, 2008, 8:49 am 8:49 am
reganfan.
that was rather far reaching.
but i guess it is no fun in being crazy if you cant show it.
You are already embracing and taking your chances on someone we don’t even know. At least america knew obama since 2004. Palin is virtually a unknown governing the smallest populated state in the union for less than two years.
Did you give obama that priviledge?
Posted by: Omentum | August 29, 2008, 8:53 am 8:53 am
Reaganfan – congrats on learning to spell Reagan (assuming you are the same guy who previously showed up as ReagunFan).
You said: “If something happens to Obama and Biden has a heart attack Nancy Pelosi would be president!”
That’s not true, unless the line of ascension was triggered, meaning the president and vice president die simultaneously and don’t have an opportunity to make other picks. And upon that, I believe Pelosi would be president regardless of which party previously held the White House.
Posted by: Paul | August 29, 2008, 8:53 am 8:53 am
Curious, let’s not forget that McCain once tried to fight a 95-year-old guy.
Yep, sure he has the temperment we need in the White House.
Just think, if other folks hadn’t pulled McCain away from Thurmond, Thurmond would probably have died in McCain’s hands. I mean, how much physical abuse can a guy that age take? And then McCain may well have been brought up on involuntary manslaughter charges.
Posted by: Paul | August 29, 2008, 8:56 am 8:56 am
POWDER KEG.
He is already trying to drag the country into a unilateral war with russia when we don’t even have the forces for such.
Imagine Paling telling him to cools his heels. I hope she has time to talk with Cindy first. Also I hope Palins husband is a softy and don’t mind his wife being disgraced.

Sorry Steve, That insult to woman as being silly to want a woman in office just because of gender is like you saying people of color want only people of oolor in office now what is that a deep cut on woman and people of color or not ,I think so ,You are shallow and I dare say most likely for Obama
Posted by: Takethat | August 29, 2008, 9:02 am 9:02 am
In my humble opinion, I don’t think that this election really matters.
Let’s look at the issues that the Republicans and Democrats both Support:
• Invasion and Occupation of Iraq
• Patriot Act
• Invasion of Afghanistan
• Kosovo War
• Increased Military Budget
• Death Penalty
• Corporate Agriculture
• Drug War
• Telecommunications Deregulation – Giveaway of public broadcast spectrum to private companies.
• Bank Deregulation and Banking Reform – Do I hear sub prime mortgage anyone?
• Expanded (Global) Corporate Power Trade Agreements and Institutions (NAFTA, FTAA, CAFTA, WTO)
Now look at the issues that both the Republicans and Democrats both oppose:
• Global Warming – Reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emissions
• National Health Insurance
• Real Campaign Finance Reform & Publicly Financed Elections
• Electoral Reforms & Democracy
• 2000 Florida Election – Congressional Investigation
• Reform of the Presidential Debate Commission
• Strict Standards on Genetically Modified Organisms
Now let’s look at where the Republicans and Democrats differ but only slightly and not enough to make a difference in our lives:
• Increased Accounting Oversight – Republicans oppose, Democrats opposed until the Enron scandal broke and then they changed their stance in order to grandstand
• Labor: Wages and Unions – Republicans Oppose raising minimum wages and have worked to weaken unions and labor standards.
• Democrats have very minimal support for workers through incremental minimum wages increases, claim to support worker’s rights but refuse to overturn Taft-Hartley Act restrictions on union organizing. Democrat Platform is silent on Taft-Hartley and living wages.
• Clean Water – Republicans oppose clean water. President Bush wants to delay a 9 month order to reduce arsenic in drinking water. Democrats have weak support for clean water. Bill Clinton delayed action for 8 years before signing an order just before Bush took office.
There is one issue however that there is enough difference between the two parties to merit a reasonable debate:
• Right to choose – Republicans oppose, and there is questionable support for the right to choose in the Democratic Party. Former President Bill Clinton signed the same ban in November, 1999. Al Gore favored outlawing late-term abortion in the US. Sen. John Kerry is opposed to a ban on partial-birth abortions.
Is this REALLY the only issue that matters? No wonder why Corporate America has been steadily eroding the quality of our lives and the security of our nation is at an all time low. Come on people. Wake up! Stop bickering over the color of the paint while the termites are eating away at the foundation of our society.

Posted by: McCain/Palin 2008 | August 29, 2008, 9:05 am 9:05 am
Did Palin really address Clinton and Ferraro?
They’re playing this wrong. If they make it so obvious this is just a gender-based attempt at attracting Clinton supporters, it will become a negative.
Posted by: Paul | August 29, 2008, 9:09 am 9:09 am
And maybe the worst part about that is it victimizes Palin. If she’s seen as just a stunt, then her political future will be pretty much over.

That’s it, geniuses. Keep attacking Palin. That’s exactly what McCain wants. Expose yourselves as the vile cynical filth that you are. Gov. Palin is an exceptional human being, so much so that it is lost on you pathetic losers, who for some bizarre reason prefer a corrupt Chicago communist.

Judging by the awesome amount of fear and whining I see on the left side of the Internet today, Palin was a terrific pick for the GOP. Look at all the haters coming out of the woodwork.
Posted by: ReapItDems | August 29, 2008, 9:15 am 9:15 am
Back to McCain’s temperment, here’s how the Washingtonian once wrote about it:
John McCain bursts out of the cloakroom and onto the Senate floor. His face red, he rips off his glasses and gets ready to pound a table. Senator Hothead is mad. Again.
“He just comes out and blows up every once in a while,” says a congressional correspondent, who didn’t want to be named. “You can almost see the steam coming out of his ears.”
Posted by: Paul | August 29, 2008, 9:15 am 9:15 am
Paul ,That is your name and I assume your a man ,I am female and you are wrong, Is positive and I am going to vote for the ticket because of her ,,I like her guts and she is a Gov. of a state that has made big changes and good ones ,more than Obama has done , and his VP is just an old same old same old -NO CHANGE THERE ,

ReapItDems: “Judging by the awesome amount of fear and whining I see on the left side of the Internet today…”
Huh, I guess that’s just another example of Republicans seeing what they want to see. I was wondering why the boards have been so dead, and was assuming this announcement just hit too late on a holiday Friday.
But, please, continue to see it anyway you want to.
Posted by: Paul | August 29, 2008, 9:17 am 9:17 am
Fair enough, Takethat.
But I do think the cynicism with which this pick will be viewed will result in a bigger loss than a gain. Like you said, I could be wrong.
Posted by: Paul | August 29, 2008, 9:19 am 9:19 am
McCain’s pick of Palin, a woman with very little executive experience, a woman who has approved a 26 billion dollar oil pipeline to Canada instead of the United States shows that McCain’s decision was made from an adlolescent place of “I’ll show you mentallity” instead of one of wisdom and judgment and will be a disaster because this is not a game but serious, deadly business! Maybe McCain really is senile and confused and incapable of making sound judgments. This woman will be a heartbeat away from being in charge of the highest office in the land. If she was Qualified, that would be different but she is not and that is the bottom line. Not to mention that his argument that Barack has no experience And Is not Ready is out the door, his strongest argument against Barack.
Is this decision Historic or Hysterical or a mockery to our political system? A game changer or a roll of the dice? And should a Presidential candidate play russian roulette with the people’s business? It is sort of sad to me personally, that McCain with all the problems we face here, did not have the People’s interest at heart but rather a desire to win for winning’s sake and did not think of the consequences of his actions and what it would mean for this country if she had to be sworn in as President of the United States!
However, in this evil ploy to pull Hillary women from Barack with no consideration as to whether or not this woman has the ability and experience to lead the United States here and on a world scale shows a very adolescent way of thinking, and a lack of sound judgment and as McCain’s first executive decision, a disaster! Through this pick, McCain has just shown that he is NOT READY TO LEAD!

MSNBC is reporting Palin spoke favorable about Obama’s energy plan. Guess that’s going to change, lol.
“I am pleased to see Senator Obama acknowledge the huge potential Alaska’s natural gas reserves represent in terms of clean energy and sound jobs,” Governor Palin said. “The steps taken by the Alaska State Legislature this past week demonstrate that we are ready, willing and able to supply the energy our nation needs.”

Someone above wrote: “That’s it, geniuses. Keep attacking Palin.”
Do Republicans just prepare their comments, and then go around looking for message boards to post them?
This is the second one like this we’ve seen, and the funny thing is I don’t recall seeing her attacked that much. Maybe I missed something.
Posted by: Paul | August 29, 2008, 9:36 am 9:36 am
Sticking to the theme of the above post, we’re just now getting to know anything about Palin, so sorry but you’re comment about attacks is premature ;)
All I know right now is she was a beauty pageant contestant, mayor and now governor. To her credit, she opposed the bridge to nowhere. She may have a liability in a spouse who works for BP.
She also is at least a little bit of an environmentalist.
And most recently I learned she at least likes the natural gas part of Obama’s energy plan.

Paul…this is what is fact…Palin equals 2 years executive experience as a governor was elected as major of Wasilla, AK in her early thirties Obama equals zero, Biden equals zero, McCain equals zero…
By your previous comments about McCain being a man for the oil companies, by the way Obama gets oil also, THIS MAY INTEREST BIG OIL NAY SAYERS:
In 2003, as Ethics Commissioner on the State’s Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, she RISKED her rising political star by RESIGNING her position in protest of ethical misconduct within the state’s REPUBLICAN leadership as well as then-Gov Frank Murkowski’s acceptance of the impropriety..Though this briefly made her an outcast within the party, within a year several state REPUBLICAN heavyweights were reprimanded for the conduct she’d decried
When was the last time Biden or Obama put their “political raising star” at risk for doing the right thing within their party?????
Article written by David Paul Kuhn, Politico.com, “Three women who could join GOP ticket.”
I SAY PALIN FOR PRESIDENT
Posted by: CuriousIndep | August 29, 2008, 9:48 am 9:48 am
Curious – this is what is fact:
McCain has temperment issues.
But I’ll give you one thing. I’d rather have Palin as president, knowing as little about her as I do, than McCain.
Posted by: Paul | August 29, 2008, 9:53 am 9:53 am
Curious: “When was the last time Biden or Obama put their “political raising star” at risk for doing the right thing within their party?????”
Let’s see, Obama opposed the Iraq invasion while running for the Senate, though most in his party didn’t agree.
Oh, and Obama stood in front of a teachers union and advocated merit pay, though knowing the union and his party didn’t want to hear it.
Obama was and remains open to nuclear power, assuming we can safely store waste, when few in his party wanted to hear that.

Paul…Also glad to see that you are reading from MY EFFORTS in regards to doing your research for you…on comments you quote that come from who knows where…at least now I can see you are not cherry picking comments from things you have heard…BTW..Since we are quoting Evan Thomas, Newsweek writer one of your favorite sources for your information, although I had to dig it up for you, is the grandson of the late Norman Thomas, a six-time Presidential candidate for the Socialist Party of America…..Hummmm how interesting..I just love trivia don’t you..Gotta go to go teach a class now…
Posted by: CuriousIndep | August 29, 2008, 10:02 am 10:02 am
Also, how about Biden and his Iraqi federation idea? That was a bit of a risk.
And as for putting rising star’s at risk, I don’t know if anyone can top Biden, who simply didn’t show for his swearing in.
“Delaware can find another senator, but my boys can’t find another dad.”
Here’s a guy who won election, but was willing to step away to care for his family, and had to be convinced to accept swearing in from the hospital room his sons were in.
Posted by: Paul | August 29, 2008, 10:04 am 10:04 am
Curious again: “When was the last time Biden or Obama put their “political raising star” at risk for doing the right thing within their party?????”
Also let’s not forget the original reason for Obama’s support. He didn’t want to continue the partisan food fights, but instead wanted to treat the other side of the aisle with respect.
That’s what people hungered for, and what cost Clinton the nomination when you come down to it. Obama would criticize Bush policies, but not see the need to throw in that extra childish adjective. With Clinton, a lot of us saw just continual fighting from the trenches. So money and supporters, including independents who previously hadn’t been in the Democratic Party, flocked to Obama – I’m talking like March and April of 2007. If that hadn’t happened, he’d have been a footnote in the history of Clinton’s nomination.
The Clintons are a big part of the inside party. So by taking this tack, by saying, “you know, let’s move past this and discuss our differences with a little more maturity” he was really taking on the party establishment.
Now he himself is a big part of the party establishment.

Well, Dubl, she is a sitting governor. Let’s give her some benefit of the doubt.
The part that’s ironic about all this is that she may be a promising talent, but if this pick is seen cynically as a token woman for women, and eye candy for men, then her political future could be derailed by this campaign.

As an Obama supporter, I am loving this pick of McSames!

–DublBogey–My posting was not vitriolic hatred but facts based on months of research some even from Obama himself. Sometimes truth hurts and Obama and his cronies have been trying to prevent truths and facts from the American people. Obama is from the most corrupt big city in our nation with many politicians and others already in jail that were his associates. Obama is still under investigation at this time. His resume is too thin for qualifications as president.
McCain/Palin on November ballot is a WINNING combination.

The bloggers who make nasty remarks about McCain and his senior citizen status and political experience are childish and stupid. My grandparents and parents were healthy and intelligent when in their late 80′s and 90′s. Obama could drop dead tonight from his nasty smoking for 30 years. My granddad was mowing his own lawn and growing a garden in his late 80′s and walked several miles nearly every day.
In other words, aging is an individual’s process. Some die at age 6, some die at age 98 as my uncle did and my great uncle at 102.

Both McCain and Palin can proudly point to a lot of friends and associates in their past history Unlike Obama here are no gaps to hide or run away from. What was most notable at the Democratic Convention was the lack of anyone who could stand up for Obama. No one from his days in Hawaii, no one from his days in college or law school, no one from his days as a community worker or at his church of twenty years. No one from his days as a politician in Chicago. The only people we saw were a lot of celebrities like Oprah. Below is an article from the the real barack obama that further discusses Obama’s curious lack of friends that were there to stand up for him at the Dem convention.
