Do We Still Have to Hide Our Children and Our Choices?
Listening to Sarah Palin’s brief comments to Charlie about the dual job she’s proposing to do, I have to admit I was somewhat disappointed. I certainly agree with her that there is no question she can raise a family and be vice-president, but the way she shut down the issue seems very 90s to me. I’m not sure we have to be worried anymore about discussing the balancing act that goes on. Indeed, one of the things that worked so well for her in her convention speech was her talk about her children, about being a hockey mom, and seeing the family on stage. I know she’s trying to prove she’s tough and ready, but I think she could have done herself a favor by using her trademark charm and warming up to the question.

I’ve had trouble juggling four kids and a career in journalism, I’m not ashamed to say. My husband and I worked well together, and traded back and forth, but it was difficult to find time to sleep sometimes. I think I would have blinked if asked to be VP, would have discussed it with my family, no matter whether I was a man or a woman.
