and he lied
straight to his face (or phone)
that is why he is so upset.
Mccain boldly lied to him.
does this surprise anyone?

David Letterman ??? Come now. He’s a washed up old has-been. Nobody cares what he says. He’s nowhere near the class act Johnny Carson was. Can you ever imagine Johnny making these sorts of comments about the future president of the United States. Letterman is just another Hollywood-type with the IQ of a raisin.

More media censorship ABC ?

Comedians and talk shows such as the View seem to be the ones that are brave enough to call this campaign out. This whole “suspending my campaign” bit is nothing but a ploy for McCain to control the debate schedule and take credit for a potential bipartisan agreement. Never mind, that Obama called McCain first to propose a joint statement where they shared their common opinions.
Go Dave!

Actually, that was some of the best Letterman I’ve seen in years! He was feisty and calling out McCain and Palin in all the right ways.
I mean, how bright can the McCain campaign be if they cancel with him but go on Couric’s show?!? They did realize that they belong to the SAME NETWORK, right? The point where they have the internal network feed on and McCain’s getting his make-up done is priceless!
This is yet one more example of the lies, mistruths, and overall incompetence John McCain has come to represent. Elect him at your peril, Americans!

Jill Mitchell, David Letterman is in NY not Hollywood. Presidential candidates never went on Carson. If the campaigns want to use the talk shows, they should expect this sort of thing.

I saw the show and Letterman is respected in his own right. It doesnt matter if he was Jerry Springer, the point is that he call ed the man and lied. There was no reason to do that if he had other fish to fry he should have said that and not lie and say he was getting on a plane to go somewhere and then be doing an interview. Its direspectful to anyone that plans their business around what you are doing.

McBush is a Old Buzzard

Letterman lost his credibility who demonstrated that he is an average joe by not understanding the gravity of issues and go bad mouthing in public.

Posted by: Tim | September 25, 2008, 2:18 pm 2:18 pm

it has not struck mr letterman that due to the disdainful treatment of palin/mccain over the coarse of this campaign season the hollywood elitist folks/snl/msn/oprah/the view etc… have lost relevance and respect.
watch the ratings begin to fall dramatically by next season.
you cannot insult with partisan furor one candidate or party over the other without insulting 50% of the population. ask oprah and other publications who have already seen their subscriptions collapse by close to 50%.
so cry me a river letterman you don’t matter anymore.

What is there to understand… HE LIED! He lied to the man to his freakin face. How would you feel if someone disrecpected you that was and lied! YOU WOULD BE pissed is what you would be…so please..say what you want..McCain was dead wrong for this..again.

Mr. Letterman told the truth. McCain is our War Hero, America’s War Hero.
He can do it all. If McCain is busy
this Friday night (only 2hrs??)Ms. Palin
can cover him in the debate. I’m sure
if she’s qualified to be VP, she can
handle a an easy debate.
Letterman – You were awesome!!

i think bill clinton said it best last night paraphrasing here; he said you cannot expect to win people over he was referencing (hillary supporters and the undecided) by insulting them. i agree.
i am both a clinton supporter and an undecided. yes we do exist, and no we haven’t made up our minds 48% of us haven’t, and yes we could determine the outcome of this election.

Ms. Mitchell, If David Letterman is so washed up, how is that you’re paying attention? Presidents are elected to work for the American people. They are not Kings who after the coronation rule the people. It is a positive sign that there are some in the media who will challenge the recent mindset by Americans allowing themselves to be led down a path of national disintegration by the charlatans in and near the white house.

Yeah, I agree. Cry Me A River, Dave. You weren’t funny last year and this year you’re turning into Lenny Bruce, more obsessed with your own problems and agendas than the act.
Somewhat like Obama: a man too preoccupied with his career to do the job he was hired to do.

Is Letterman a part of the media? Thought he was an entertainer.

Posted by: zeke | September 25, 2008, 3:47 pm 3:47 pm

Zeke, check the definition of media… and then make a point.

Posted by: frankd | September 25, 2008, 3:57 pm 3:57 pm

Letterman is so deep in Obama’s pocket he doesn’t know when it’s daylight or dark outside.
Movie and TV so called stars are overpaid pampered idiots.

McCain decided to return to D.C. and skip Letterman’s show. GOOD.
Why go on his show and let him attack you. You know that’s what Letterman was going to do.
How can the messiah lose when the news media, movie and TV stars, are supporting and protecting him.
A year from now people will wake up and realize they made a terrible mistake.

The majority of news reporters for ABC, CBS, NBC, Associated Press, New York Times, Newsweek, Washington Post supporting Obama. They are falling over themselves to praise everything he says and does.
During the primaries Senator Clinton and her supporters pleaded with the news media to investigate Obama. They refused. Instead we were bombarded with feel good Obama stories.

frankd, by media I assumed, perhaps incorrectly, that you were referring to news media.
News media…those charged with providing news to the public, are supposed to be unbiased. We don’t seem to have that..ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN all tilt way left..FOX tilts way right. We are also bombarded with opinions from celebs not charged with providing news to us. When you throw in Letterman, Pink, Matt Damon,Rosie O’Donnell etc…the numbers are slanted in a huge way one direction. That’s probably OK if it reflected society, but our society is much more equally divided as to which political side your on.

Ok it’s as simple as this folks, McCain has tried to take credit for the move to suspend campaigns. (Obama’s camp called McCain first, look it up.) Two any half intelligent person knows that this…bs bailout is not going to do much for the economy, its a quick fix, a quick fix and another quick and worse fall. McCain should know, this is something that won’t be fixed for several years, he can spare 2 hours. (And it will be fixed, our economy has proven strong through rough times before.)

These are all politicians–they all love money, they all have money–they all use money to get what they want. ALL OF THEM. Get over the contibution thing since this was a thread about a talk show…

McCain in this campaign has proven he is a moron on a par with our current president. His historonics in suspending his campaign because of urgency in resolving the crisis and then injecting himself into the fray without even taking a position himself is moronic. And to not realize how this would come off to the public (through the media) is also stupid. McCain always portrayed himself as media-savvy which is why he appears on shows such as Letterman. To not realize he would be beat up by Letterman for cancelling last minute is naive….Conservatives will blame the media….but the bottom line is Republicans are simply not media-savvy….McCain used to think he was but has shown he isn’t..

As an 80-year-old white woman, I could not have been more proud of David Letterman’s integrity in displaying his disdain for a man who purely failed to keep his word as committed to him. I would not trust Mr. McShame for anything. He is living proof of the wisdom of “old age and cunning . . . ” which can be a lethal combination. Hopefully, this time, it will be to himself, Mr. McShame. David Letterman did what most Americans are fearful of doing these days lest they wind up under the watchful eye of the Gestapo. He was brave enough to dare an investigation of himself while the rest of us cower in our corners waiting for the acorn to fall on Chicken Little. Such a sad commentary on a country built upon the premise of “Love thy neighbor as thy self.” May God help us to remember how to help ourselves. If we are too cowardly to verbalize our feelings, then, for goodness’ sake, let us slip quietly into the voting booth and boldly vote to get rid of the present fear-monging mentality.

Zeke, I understand your position and I agree that we filter our acceptance or rejection of ideas through the lens of individual ideology. I do believe, though, that from time to time, the entertainment media, whether Letterman or Limbaugh, take a stand when conventional news waits to see which way the wind is blowing. Even when I don’t agree, such commentary makes me think, and inspires involvement.

Letterman is in tune with the people of this great nation. He knows what our concerns are and that’s why his fan base is constantly growing, now more then ever!!! His gusty monologue and the fire he’s bringing to the show is addictive. We love it, so don’t stop bringing it! If the Media won’t say it because their too afraid, we know we can count on Dave!!!!
Letterman staff – don’t change a thing, no matter what the McCain staff cries/complains about, don’t censor Dave!!! Not only is NY with you, but the whole USA!!! and probably the World, who are definitely watching!!!
