‘Love Child’ Query Rebuked by McCain Camp
ABC News’ Teddy Davis and Arnab Datta Report: John McCain’s top policy adviser rebuked a reporter on Monday for asking if there was "no sense of panic" in the campaign "over the love child issue," a reference to the announcement made earlier in the day that the 17-year old daughter of McCain’s running mate is five-months pregnant and planning to marry the father.
"All kidding aside — a little respect. I mean ‘love child’ issue? I mean this is a young woman," said McCain adviser Douglas Holtz-Eakin, referring to Bristol Palin, the daughter of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R). "She is 17-years old, and I believe that treating it with a little bit of respect is appropriate."
"This is the governor’s daughter," he continued. "It is their issue. It is something that we believe should be treated with a lot of respect. This is clearly something that we have a lot of concern about: the future of this young lady. She’s a wonderful woman. From the campaign’s perspective, we have an outstanding candidate who is a governor and she has a family. She loves that family, and this is their business."
Holtz-Eakin made his comments in response to a question from Paul Bedard the author of "Washington Whispers," a regular feature in U.S. News & World Report.
Bedard questioned Holtz-Eakin during a Christian Science Monitor lunch with reporters held in St. Paul, Minn.
The rebuke from Holtz-Eakin came after Bedard said: "I covered the Dan Quayle campaign. Is there no sense of panic over the love child issue or is there a belief that it shows that she is like a lot of American families?"
Another reporter attending the lunch asked Holtz-Eakin when he first became aware that Palin’s daughter was pregnant with an "out-of-wedlock baby."
"It doesn’t matter when I became aware," said Holtz-Eakin. "I mean, the governor and Todd Palin issued a statement this morning. The statement, I think, speaks for itself — which is to say, that they are now conscious that their daughter will have to address the great challenge of raising a child sooner than they might have hoped. And that they are being supportive of her and the man that she will marry and they would ask that we respect their privacy and I think out of respect for that request that’s probably all we should say."
Asked if the campaign knew about the pregnancy at the time of Palin’s selection, Holtz-Eakin said, "As I said, what I think we ought to do is recognize that the governor was completely vetted by the campaign. Senator McCain has complete confidence in her as a running mate and as a future vice president of the United States, and the particulars of the family life of the Palins is really something that’s best left to them."

She does NOT need to be running for VP. She needs to put her family first. She’s throwing her family to the wolves and they’re going to be scarred for life.
Ridiculous.

I just want to remind readers that this is a political issue. Ms. Palin does not believe in sex education in schools or the use of condoms, she advocates abstinence. That alone makes this political. I am a mother of two teenage girls and I do not want this woman anywhere near my daughters. Furthermore, what judgment does it show when a mother places her child in a national light in the knowledge that this would be aired for all of America to judge. Shame on her.

Maybe because it’s a family matter for the Palins and not a liberal National Esquire headline? Doh.

Enough already. This young woman will be marrying her fiance, Levi and probably live in Alaska, while VP Palin will be in Washington with President McCain.
If I were a Dem., I’d be far more worried that Obama DID NOT GET THE BUMP IN THE POLLS after Grecian rock concert convention. Man, B.Hussein just cannot get that bump…Hillary dropping out, fiasco World Tour, Biden pick, Dem convention….the debates are yet ahead and we all know how B. Hussein does in debates.
Leave Bristol Palin alone. BO’s mom was 17 and 3 months pregnant when she married Obama Sr., who was legally married to a woman in Kenya. They really need to stay away from complicated family business….Obama’s background is completely out of the norm!

Chad you are an idiot, she is putting her family first by running for the second highest office in the land, to make changes that will affect their lives and to insure that their future is secured. Plus they have a father who is equally responsible for them.

If she had been properly vetted they should have known Sarah Palin was a member (prior to becoming Governor) of the secessionist Alaska Independence Party. She is still on good terms and sent greetings to their convention.

Re: Chad’s comment–Would you be making those statements if Gov. Palin was a man? Seems to me that some voters are anxious about Palin and what she could possibly bring to the Republican ticket. Otherwise, why would all of these attacks be so fast and furious? She is causing some uneasiness from the opposition, so the only way to bring her down is to continue to make comments that no one would say about a male candidate. It may end up backfiring.

Chad,
show some respect. There’s a dozen reasons why she should not become VP and her motherhood is NOT one of them.
Talk about her bridge to nowhere. Or her calling Hillary a whiner. Or her fighting against polar bears being listed as a threatened species. There are lots of good reasons not to vote for her.

Bristol Palin is 5 months pregnant, PERMANENTLY SILENCING THE HORRIBLE DEM SMEAR THAT GOV. PALIN’S BABY SON WITH DOWNS SYNDROME, WHO IS FOUR MONTHS OLD, IS HERS!
I must say, I do not like Obama for President, but his statement today that childen of candidates are HANDS OFF, is one of the smartest things he’s said/done in this campaign. Of course if you look into his bizarre family and his own mother being pregnant at 18 and unmarried, he has some understanding of the situation.
STILL McCAIN/PALIN

I can only imagine the moralistic outcry by the religious right if the young lady would have been related to Obama or Biden. One thing this does show is that the Palin’s aren’t the goody two-shows that the RNC is portraying them to be. I wonder what other skeltons they have in their closets.
Posted by: algwriter | September 1, 2008, 1:50 pm 1:50 pm
I’m fom AK and we didn’t know our Gov was pregnant until she was almost due to deliver. She and Todd never made a big deal out of Trig being born with DOWN’s Syndrome. They knew ahead of time that something was wrong but their moral compass is in the right direction. People shouldn’t be throwing stones that her daughter is pregnant and not married. How many families out there are in the same situation? Sarah and her family are just in the limelight right now, and anything and everything will be used against her. Well “You go Girl”, you’re right, you are a multi-tasker. Now you can add V.P. and Granny to your resume.

The father has 2 jobs. I’m a Republican not a Democrat btw. I’m still very undecided though. As PARENTS they need to put their children first and be around for them. NOT running for the 2nd most powerful job in the country. My cousin has Down Syndrome and they require a lot! The mother AND father need to be there for their children, hands on. As you can see when she was busy being Governor and not paying attention to her daughter she got herself pregnant. Now, she needs to take responsibility for her mistake as a mother and be there FIRST HAND for her daughter. She should run as President when her family has grown and matured after 4-8 years. I think she’d make a great President, but too many family issues right now to have such a high powered, busy, gov’t job.
Posted by: Chad2 | September 1, 2008, 1:52 pm 1:52 pm
Hilarious. Dems just had another whacko theory debunked. The daughter could not have possibly had the baby 4 months ago since she was being insiminated at the time.
McCain has made a fantastic pick. Palin is going to make a great vp, and a greater president in 2012.

El Pajero,
“Talk about her bridge to nowhere.”
She fought that and got that shot down. What about Ted Kennedy’s “Big Dig”?
” Or her calling Hillary a whiner.” That would make her honest. Hillary had no credentials to run for the Senate, and won. She has no credentials to be President and almost got the nod. Her popularity is because she slept with a President. Paul Jones is as qualified as her if not more by that standard.
” Or her fighting against polar bears being listed as a threatened species.” Polar Bears? That’s the best you can do? You liberals want to treat polar bears better than humans.
“There are lots of good reasons not to vote for her.”
I’m waiting to hear a few.

I have to say, when my father in law who has been a life long 72 year old Republican says he will not vote Republican this time around because of McCain’s VP pick there is something seriously wrong. Even my mother in law who is also a Republican has decided she will either vote for Obama/Biden or just stay home. McCain, I really think you just shot yourself in the foot because your VP pick has really turned conservatives off. For G_D sake have you seen all the trashy pictures that are being put out on his VP Sarah Palin? How bout the story that is coming out on Daily KOS that the baby that she claimed was hers with down syndrome is really her daughters baby who is now pregnant with another child at 17. Good Judgement, I Think Not! You better get rid of this woman before she sinks you McCdummy and put Romney on the ticket like you should have. Stop selling our family values out for a hand full of trashy trailer park Hillary women that have no souls and no place in the Republican Party. John if you don’t put Romney on the ticket, you should be charged with political malpractice and you deserve to lose. Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s 17-year-old unmarried daughter that is Pregnant is no more then a whore and a disgrace and her and her mother should change their party affiliation to Democrats. By looking at this young Jezebel and her mother Gov. Sarah Palin, it appears the apple doesn’t fall to far from the tree. If you don’t get this woman off of this ticket, I will also be writing Mitt Romney’s name on my ballot and so will a lot of other Republicans. You folks that keep saying that the candidates families are off limits, yur a idiot. This skank is running for the number two spot, everything should be and will be checked. Like I said if McCain is smart he will get back to making people like me happy who make up his base. If he doesn’t, then fine I will write Romney’s name on my ballot. We don’t want her our Hillary Clinton trash. Republicans stay true to our roots!

You need to get-up to speed there John B… Haven’t you heard that is just a BIG LIE she has been telling???
McCain has bragged that Palin opposed the famous “Bridge to Nowhere,” only to learn now that Palin supported the project and even told residents of Ketchikan that they weren’t “nowhere” to her.
After the national outcry, she decided to spend the funds allocated to the bridge for something else. Actually, maybe it’s more fair to say that coincident with the national outcry, she changed her mind. The story shows her political judgment, but it is not a reformer’s credential…
Likewise, though she did cut property taxes as mayor of Wassila, she raised the sales tax, making her hardly a tax cutter…
The Republicans and McCain can Hide behind this “minor hurricane” (now downgraded to a CAT 2 and missing New Orleans) for another day or two…
But as the wind and rain goes away, the “Palin VP Pick Storm” is only going to grow! It will grow into the biggest disaster for McCain and the Republicans in the last 50 years!!!!

I think this situation is hilarious for the Republicans, coming as it does on the heels of moral outrage over the possible new fatherhood of John Edwards! Where was the ‘hands-off’ attitude then from Dobson and the GOP?
In addition, I find it hardly the hallmark of social conservatism to be running for the 2nd highest US office when you have 4 kids under the age of 18, one of whom is a special-needs baby. Hillary was demonized when her husband ran for President for being a working mom. The Republicans just don’t want a taste of their own medicine.

Having experience working with individuals with Down Syndrome, I think it’s funny how so many people are up in arms about just how *much* assistance this child may or may not need- seeing as I’ve found nothing to indicate how severely he is afflicted. Most cases of Downs are considered mild to moderate- and I could quickly ramble off dozens of people affected by Down Syndrome that despite suffering from mental retardation, are still smart enough to know that sometimes when people offer you change- all they are really promising is pennies. Or, in BO’s case- pesos.
I suggest that you might want to freshen your case against Palin by actually learning about the disorder that her family is dealing with. http://www1.ndss.org/index.php Who knows- it might give you enough hope to think twice about the next abortion you want because the child you carry isn’t “Perfect”.

John B,
you can start by getting informed on the “bridge to nowhere”, the one that she bragged about opposing in her acceptance speech. That was her first lie on the national stage.
In 2006, she campaigned in the local area on a pro-bridge platform. Then, once the election was won and Alaskan pork barrel spending became a national issue, she suddenly changed her mind.
From abcnews’ story on the issue today:
“‘We need to come to the defense of Southeast Alaska when proposals are on the table like the bridge, and not allow the spinmeisters to turn this project or any other into something that’s so negative,’ Palin said in August 2006, according to the Ketchikan Daily News.
The Anchorage Daily News quoted her in October 2006 as saying she would continue state funding for the bridge. ‘The window is now, while our congressional delegation is in a strong position to assist,’ she said.”
If you want to know Palin, ask the citizens of “Nowhere”.

I cannot believe some of the hypocritical statements I’ve been reading. People stating she has babies in need and a pregnant daughter and needs to “be for her family first” ….are the same ones who rooted for John Edwards who was running when his wife was diagnosed with terminal cancer….not too mention, out galavanting with another woman! The same people who supported the President of the United States when he committed adultry in office and lied under oath! What hypocrites we have!
So what if her daughter is pregnant. Her daughter is not running for President or Vice President! Goodness…this goes further to show that Sarah has a regular family like everyone else who is normal and down to earth. WOW! Her teenage daughter had sex? Gimme a break. The rate of teens having sex is quite drastic…the only difference is she got pregnant. Too many darn hypocrites!
By the way, Obama’s children are young. Shouldn’t he stay home and be a father after 5pm instead of running amuck and around the country and the world for that matter? Doesn’t he know the statistics of what happen to children without fathers at dinner time? PLEASE PEOPLE……..my statement is sarcastic….just to enlighten those of you who think you have a stance regarding Sarah Palin and her family.
GIVE IT UP. Poor argument.
GO McCain/Palin !! I know I look forward to their win and not having to pay more taxes and to be able to have focus on energy sources as opposed to having my paychecks go to universal healthcare so that EVERYBODY suffers.

Debra, I’m sorry to tell you, but I come from a Republican family and a Republican community, we are not voting for McCain now because of his poor pick for VP. Republicans would rather allow Obama to win then to sell out our Republican values for a woman and a daughter that are obviously loose, if you know what I mean. Republicans have standards unlike Democrats and I can tell you for a fact, we reject this woman period.

On an average of the polls, Obama has seen a 4 point bounce from the convention. That is, historically, average.
No news there, but thanks for trying to spin.

The polls may look favorable for Obama, but that is only because the smart folks who vote wait till all is presented before they go scurrying around and taking internet polls from news agencies and media outlets.

It’s easier to raise a child with Down’s Syndrome and having the support of many networks than it is to raise “normal” teenagers.
It’s easier to have a teenage pregnancy when one has supportive family and an upcoming wedding….as opposed to one who comes from broken networks and live off the system.
Get real folks.

Nancy Mitchell Pfotenhauer – Spokesperson for McCain Campaign is way out of her league and looking stressed today. Another example of the McCain campaign not being ready on Day One or 3am either. Let’s learn a little about Nancy.
Recently Nancy Mitchell Pfotenhauer — a top policy adviser for Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) — derided those who say that lifting the offshore drilling moratorium won’t affect gas prices, saying it “reveals ignorance on the futures markets.”
That position puts her at odds with the federal Energy Information Administration, McCain economic adviser Douglas Holtz-Eakin, and even McCain himself. Why?
Perhaps it’s because the only ones who would benefit from lifting the moratorium are energy companies like Koch Industries (pronounced “coke”), the largest private company in the United States, Pfotenhauer’s longtime boss.
With $90 billion in annual sales, Koch Industries is the largest privately owned company in the United States. Begun in 1940 as an oil refining business by Fred Koch, his company — now controlled by sons David and Charles Koch — has diversified into “refining and chemicals; process and pollution control equipment and technologies; minerals and fertilizer; fibers and polymers; commodity and financial trading and services; and forest and consumer products” — a global warming pollution factory.
Oh,that’s why.

WHAT ABOUT THAT BRIDGE TO NOWHERE ANYWAY??
Bye, bye Mr. McCain!!!!

NO.
I will not vote for the Grand Old this time. Enough is enough.
What we know ALREADY about Palin makes me wonder about McCain’s old age judgement.
He’s not the McCain he used to be.
And Palin?
She was a supporter of the bridge to nowhere, but denied it; so much for straight talk (and she didn’t give back the money.. an offense to all Americans
She was politically active in the Alaska independent party; so much for putting America first
She was a director of a 527 group supporting Ted Stevens; so much for fighting corruption
She doesn’t believe that people have a role in global warming, she doesn’t want to protect polar bears, and she is for drilling in ANWR
She believes that all forms of birth control are akin to abortion, that abstinence training works, and that sex education is a bad thing
She exhibits what has to be considered poor judgment by giving a speech, taking an 8 hour flight to Alaska after he water broke, and then failing to go to a hospital to deliver a special needs baby
She thinks the founding fathers wrote the pledge and put in the words “under God”
She supports creationism in the classroom
She might be willing to use her office to have her brother-in-law fired. And she is willing to fire a loyal state employee who does not carry our her vendetta
She has only had a passport for one year. Has she ever visited Canada?
She gave birth to her first child eight months after eloping; why would a good Christian woman elope?

Mr. Incredible,
You better check your fact incredible… It is illegal to transfer that money from McCain’s campaign to any other entity!!
That was the reason given why the Obama campaign could not simply pay off Hillary’s debt from his campaign funds…
He can ONLY spend the $84 Million from public funding PERIOD.
However, you are half right. The RNC can raise it’s own funds separately and spend them any way they wish….
Doesn’t matter though, no amount of money McCain could spend would get rid of this disastrous Palin VP Pick!!!
The biggest disaster for the McCain campaign, is that they will have to talk about and defend this BS Palin pick until election day! When they should be attacking Obama!!!
I am sure ALL Republicans will agree when I say, he should have picked Romney!!!!!
Ha, ha, ha, ha!!!!!
Bye, bye McCain!!!!!!!!

“Bristol Palin is 5 months pregnant, PERMANENTLY SILENCING THE HORRIBLE DEM SMEAR THAT GOV. PALIN’S BABY SON WITH DOWNS SYNDROME, WHO IS FOUR MONTHS OLD, IS HERS!”
It’s Palin own words – stating her teen daughter is 5 months pregnant. Is she telling a truth or a lie? I need more prove than her words.
Posted by: Neutralist | September 1, 2008, 3:01 pm 3:01 pm
So, Bristol Palin “will” marry the father of her unborn child. Well, I wonder if the Social Conservatives have given any thought to the possibility that the father will not want to marry Bristol. Of course, since Bristol is not due to give birth until after the election, this really doesn’t matter to a lying bunch of hypocritical right-wing nut jobs. The G.O.P. spin machine is running on high right now pumping out lie after lie for consumption by the American people. There are so many lies that are flooding the Internet from Republicans that I’ll bet people around the world are laughing their heads off at us, and wondering if we will buy this pile of G.O.P. feces. I won’t. But, I don’t know how many of my fellow citizens I can count on to do the same thing. The Founding Fathers concept of an “educated electorate” flew out the window long ago in this country. If he had vetted her he would have told the public that Sarah’s Daughter was pregnant. If he thought that the public would not find out, or it did not matter, he is a fool and shows a lack of judgement.
The fact that he picked her after one meeting, calls he a Soulmate after one meeting shows how ridiculous he is.
Along with Trooper-gate and a pregnant teenage daughter we are covered in the Palin family saga.
Maybe it is a planed distraction from John’s other failings.

The GOP is against homosexual civil unions even though their current VP’s daughter is in one. And the GOP believes the best contraceptive is abstinence only education, and we can see how well that is working with the presumptive GOP VP.
At least we know that the GOP believes in family and faith first, that is why Bush put so many unqualified (lawbreakers)/religious people in the DOJ and why Cheney does not listen to anyone (in the GOP party) but himself.
John McCain’s daughter is hanging out in Hollywood with TV stars going to some of the TMZ covered spots as Paris Hilton. Sarah Palin’s daughter is just like Britney’s Spear’s sister. Which party was supposed to be the one with candidates that are too busy being like Paris and Britney to be prepared to run this country?

THE ISSUE is that John McCain did not even bother to do some simple background checks on Palin. 1)She WAS an early supporter of the Bridge to Nowhere. 2)Troopergate is a bipartisan investigation. 3)According to the Christian Broadcasting Network her husband had a history of DUI. 4)Her daughter has been pregnant for 5 months. 5)John McCain had only met Palin her ONE time. THE ISSUE is the total lack of judgement and research by John McCain. THE ISSUE is that John McCain is caught by surprise. THE ISSUE is that John McCain has been blasting Obama for months on lack of experience and he picks a person who 20 months ago was the mayor of a town with 8,000 people. Is that a full-time job??? We cannot wait to learn more about Palin. But we already know much more about John McCain’s political reasons for picking her and his total lack of judgement. McCain is 72 years old and had a history of cancer. Palin as president? NO WAY.

Also, wouldn’t your own precious Sarah Palin call you a “whiner” for suggesting that many male politicians and pundits are being chauvinistic? That’s what she said when Hillary did it at least.

Now the positive news about Palin since the pro-obama media hasn’t reported it.
1. By any account she has more executive and policy experience than Obama
2. She stood up to the good old boy Republican establishment in Alaska and got elected defeating a corrupt Republican incumbent
3. She chose to give birth to a beautiful child while knowing before birth that it had Downs Syndrome.
4. She fought the big oil companies in Alaska
5. She has a 90 approval rating in her state the highest of any governor in the country
6. her position on gay rights is a moderate one and very close to obama’s
7. She married her college sweetheart who is not a Republican and is a Native American.
8.She has created extraordinary enthusiasm in Republican ranks.
9. Wassila (her home town) loved her and described her as a wonderful mayor and a great wife and mother
10. Her son is going to Iraq A TRUE PATRIOT
11. She is an avid fisher and hunter
SHE IS MORE OF A MAN THAN hussein OBAMa EVER DREAMED OF BEING!

Sean, You got that right! Palin is a reformer, pro-lifer, has a son going to Iraq, has actually balanced a budget, is for drilling to get off foreign oil, has a faithful husband, is against raising taxes and doesn’t believe in same sex marriage. Hillary IS the exact opposite. Thank God.

McShame on you sexist racist bigot!!

JRinLA, that wasn’t the point of this whole “big deal” you putz!
This convention was supposed to be called off in the anticipation of a Katrina size disaster. So now that it is over, lets get back to McBush’s convention failure!!!

All these Hillary supporters who claim to be voting for McCain are actually GOP supporters. Your lies are amusing but oh so transparent. No Hillary supporter will vote for some GOP candidate who’s for everything Hillary is against! Give me a break!

Seems since Obama came on Stage, people just want to hate and tear people apart.
=======================================
What are you smoking?
It is Obama’s opponents who have been spreading false rumors and lies in the hopes of drumming up fear against Obama.
Don’t cloak yourselves in false outrage now, I don’t recall John McCain denouncing the ridiculous propaganda ads that try to tie Obama to Bill Ayres.
Gov. Palin’s elevation by Sen. McCain to be his running mate shocked the world! Republicans and Democrats alike, political insiders, and media pundits. The appointment is a bolt out of nowhere.
What we are now learning about McCain’s decision-making in choosing Gov. Palin does not offer us a reassuring picture of his judgement. He seems he did not practice due diligence, but basically flipped a coin on the most important first decision he has made.
McCain has a reputation for being rash, intemperate – a little reckless. This choice only highlights those qualities.
Is this the kind of judgement we want in our next president? Reckless, intemperate – a gambler?
In the film Independence Day, Mort Kondracke appears on a talk show speaking about the failed leadership of President Thomas J. Whitmore (Bill Pullman) saying,
“Leadership as a pilot in the Gulf War is completely different from leadership in politics.”
Indeed, we might say “leadership as pilot in the Vietname war is completely different from leadership in politics”.
McCain’s experience as a fighter pilot mmakes him the right man to protect us from an invasion of aliens, he does not show the right judgement or leadership to lead this country through the complicated political challenges that currently confront this country.
This VP pick does confirma he is a gun-slinger. But I don’t think we actually WANT a gun-slinger in office. We’ve had that for the past eight years, we don’t need four more.

Sgt. Maria, Do I sense some buyers remorse about your candidate? Because Obama has scandals around every corner. Rezko, Ayres, Rev. Wright, Father Plaegar, endorsements by Hamas and Louis Farakhan, mother had him at 18 married his bigamist father when she was 3 months preg. He is part of the corrupt chicago machine, has a brother and other family members living in squalor on $1 month, while spouting “White mans greed versus the world in need” picked a plagerist, liar for VP, need I go on…..

I am a republican, life-long for that matter.
I am deeply embarrased by the way McCain made this VP choice.
A woman he met once for 15 minutes at a govenors meeting just before offering her the VP slot. A woman he now calls his partner and soulmate. This is getting weirder by the day, reminds me of Bush and Putin. McCain I am a woman and cannot vote for you.Your behavior is reckless and your judgement in doubt. I will have to vote for the Democrat this year I watched both of them on 60 minutes last sunday and I liked what I saw and heard. In your first real test of what you would do as president, you failed.

HEY McKEATING FIVE!!
When are you going to let the press kick the tires on your new new VP Pick??
You can’t keep her hidden forever…..
I for one can’t wait for all the Sunday shows (Meet the Press, etc), maybe a 60 minutes interview (like Obama and Biden just did), you know stuff like that…
I am sure you didn’t pick just some little “beauty queen lightweight” right?
Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!!!!!!!!!

Funny how all the GOP supporters who show their bigotry with slanderous statements and lies against a Democrat get so mad when anything bad is said about their own even when it’s the truth. GOP supporters are the biggest bigots and hyprocrites on the planet! GOP: the do as I say,not as I do party.

How old is this quote “Man” unquote that is the father? Are we talking about a 17 year-old boy as father? Or a “Man” of legal age and thus technically and legally a rapist or sexual predator in todays legal playground? Will this affect the vice president’s view on such relationships? Or will she give it her own a special exemption?

The biggest disaster for the McCain campaign, is that they will have to talk about and defend this BS Palin VP pick until election day! When they should be attacking Obama!!!
I am sure ALL Republicans will agree when I say, he should have picked Romney or even Gulliani!!!!! Anything would have been better that this “one trick pony”
Ha, ha, ha, ha!!!!!

Bristol is not 5 months pregnant. This whole story was released as part of a cover-up story to hide the fact that Bristol is the mother of Trig. Reason being because if she were truly 5 months pregnant then there could be no way that she could be Trig’s mother.
In a few weeks they will say that Bristol mis-carried and thus there will never be a way to determine if she was 5 months pregnant. Think about it, did Bristol look 5 months pregnant in any of the photos from last week when her mom was accepting the nomination? No she didn’t.
And for a long time now Alaskans have been skeptical to Sarah being pregnant and never appearing as pregnant until her 7th month after making the announcement.
Not to mention prior to this they pull Bristol out of school for 5 months because she supposedly had mono! Come on people, I was born at night but not last night.

Your story along with the suspicious way Trig was born, just makes a person think!

How long before Palin drops out due to “personal reasons?” I say 4 days.
Posted by: Steve from Danville | September 1, 2008, 4:15 pm 4:15 pm
As a mother, I’m horrified that Sarah Palin has exposed her pregnant daughter to the scrutiny that comes with a campaign. I’m horrified that she either A) spends so little time on governance; or B) spends so little time with her FIVE children. Looks like the eldest are rearing the youngest, rather than Ms. Palin parenting any of them, and given that she just upped the stakes and the time required for her career, she shows no intention of refocusing while her family most needs her. That’s not sexism, or discrimination — there are only so many hours in a day, especially when travelling to campaign, and a webcam is no substitute for a hug.
Even if I weren’t so concerned about her priorities regarding her family, as a mature, educated woman, I’m horrified that Palin had the lack of judgment to even ACCEPT the nomination. She’s out of her depth with international affairs, diplomacy, defense, and national economic policy, (just to name a few issues). If she DOES realize she’s in too deep, then she’s rolling the dice on the country’s safety by running for VP. If she DOESN’T know she’s out of her depth, she’s downright delusional and arrogant.
The whole fiasco is embarrassing to the country, to conservatives, and to John McCain.
(heavy sigh) What a mess.

There’s a few things coming to light about the Palin family that should be disturbing. No matter how Hush Bimbo, O’Hannity, Ann Coulter, and Laura Ingraham try to defend them, there’s no excuse for Todd Palin’s DUI, Sarah Palin’s ethics violation (Trooper Gate), and the 17 year old out of wedlock mother to be. This family was not thoroughly vetted, and Karl “The Matrix” Rove looked at a spreadsheet that said Obama was having a problem getting white, surburban, soccer mom types of voters. He took this matrix and farted out Sarah Palin.

1. By any account she has more executive and policy experience than Obama.
Obama served the Illinois Senate Since 1996. Helping to create Bills that served his State.
Governor cannot get anything passed with out the Senate.
Obama as a US Senator he created Bills and Laws. Most of the Laws he got passed was to serve OUR COUNTRY FIRST!!
Nuke Pro Lif Act. Transparency Act and Ethics Reform Act to clean up Washington from Lobbyist and Special Interest. OBAMA IS A LAW MAKER!!

Palin’s family SHOULD be off limits but not Palin herself. She has a newborn with special needs and a daughter pregnant out of wedlock – what are Sarah’s priorities should she end up VP and potentially President should the need arise? What happened to family values? Is Palin going to take birth control so she doesn’t get pregnant while in office? or is it against her religion or something?
Just exactly what is it she will add to McCain’s Presidency? Will she advise him on dog sledding? caribou shooting and guns? I get the tactical advice on dealing with oil executives but I don’t think McCain needed help there.
I understand her appeal to some, an attractive woman that fishes, hunts, shoots and is obviously out there in the big wide world. But this is for a very serious government job, a leadership position. It’s her preparedness and the mind of the man who picked her that I question.

It said essentially that he went to the mosque with his father, the father being the one who prayed at the mosque. That’s a lot like saying that because my child accompanied me to church that my child prayed at the church. What if my child accompanied me to church but did not pray–that is he accompanied me for some other reason (i.e. out of respect for me, or because he was too young to stay alone) but did not actively worship or pray? Heck, I’ve seen Atheists sit through religious services at a wedding, out of respect for the bride and groom. Did that mean those Atheists were worshipping?

========================
Your are right, JRinLA, real fear that this intemperate “John McCain”, a reckless, irreponsible, political “gun-slinger” might still become president and take this country over the brink and into the abyss.
As McCain’s choice of VP IRREFUTABLY shows, he cares a wit about what he says, or what the country needs. For the past eight months he has been hammering the public with political ads bring up Obama’s inexperience. So, whom does he appoint as his running mate – a governor with even less experience than Obama.
Didn’t McCain mean it when he said that Obama’s inexperience put the country at risk? What changed? Does McCain mean anything he says, or is he just willing to say anything, gamble anything, make decisions seemingly at random, and which patently contradict positions he “FIRMLY” holds
And the American public isn’t supposed to notice? His choice of VP, the manner and reasons he chose her are an insult to the American public. The man cannot be trusted on any subject, let alone to take over the ship of state.
He’s not a maverick, he’s just unpredictable, and obviously does not know his own mind.
Palin’s experience, or Obama’s experience isn’t even the point.
McCain is acting like a confused old man who forgets what he just said, and then says the complete opposite.
So, tell us Sen. McCain is experience important or is it not important? What do you think today?

She’s not qualified to be VP of the University of Alaska, let alone of the United States. a “cheerleader”, with a journalism degree. Give me a break!!! Ethics reformer my ARSE…that’s why she just hired a lawyer to deal with her ETHICS VIOLATION investigation. John McCain is a doofus!!!

McCain should be ashamed of himself.
I do realize that Sarah Palin is a great choice for VP but at this point the big question is WHAT ABOUT HER FAMILY?
He should have known that all this will put a HUGE weight on her family.
I’ve heard of scorched earth but never scorched Family.
McCain… you are the weakest link.

What’s more, the registration documents from Obama’s school documents are easy to find online. He was registered as a Muslim and that’s the religious lessons he got.
Both his biological father and his stepfather were muslim and his brothers still are.

None of my pro-Hillary female friends are falling for this obvious GOP pander.
To the contrary, McCain’s selection of Sarah Palin as his VP is drawing hoots of derision.
Once they learn that Sarah Palin opposes rape and incest exceptions for women seeking abortion, they completely write her off.
One female friend said: “Sarah Palin is to the movement for women’s equality what Clarence Thomas is to civil rights. She’s an extremist and an enemy to the cause that has been fought on her behalf….
Someone should stand up and say: ‘I know Senator Clinton. Senator Clinton is a friend of mine. And Sarah Palin is no Hillary Rodham Clinton.’”
One female friend did some quick internet research and said, “Sarah Palin has a great deal of surface appeal, at first. But once America’s women look behind that cheerleader smile and see at her extreme social agenda, they will run the other direction.”
Another said, “McCain picked a fan, not an equal partner. She has no international experience. She was just fawning all over him. No independence. Given McCain’s temper, Sarah Palin probably won’t challenge John McCain on any substantive issues.”
Then she added, with a laugh, “The only thing he is going to let her do in the White House is teach him how to use the internet.”

Senator Obama did get the Convention bump. Just go to the USA Today site and you will see it for yourself. Also they have the bump shown on CBS polling. Senator Obama is surging and McCain is lagging as he should. What a lame pick for VP. Palin is nothing but a beauty queen that the old geezer wanted around.

Watergate convict G Gordon Liddy’s home was the site of a McCain fundraiser. Over the years, he has made at least four contributions totaling $5,000 to the senator’s campaigns–including $1,000 this year.
Last November, McCain went on his radio show. Liddy greeted him as “an old friend,” and McCain sounded like one. “I’m proud of you, I’m proud of your family,” he gushed. “It’s always a pleasure for me to come on your program, Gordon, and congratulations on your continued success and adherence to the principles and philosophies that keep our nation great.”

It’s her personal decision and it’s none of your business as journalists. Don’t you think you are worst than that by using SEX on the screen for MONEY? Don’t you think it’s more NOBLE to keep the baby

That 17 year old is more RESPONSIBLE to accept the consequence of her decision than YOU MEDIA, the perpetrators. I challenge YOU MEDIA if you have the guts to publicize the ABORTIONISTS even older than she is.

Gov. Sarah Palin on Wednesday revealed an audio recording that shows an aide pressuring the Public Safety Department to fire a state trooper embroiled in a custody battle with her sister.
Palin, who has previously said her administration didn’t exert pressure to get rid of trooper Mike Wooten, also disclosed that members of her staff had made about two dozen contacts with public safety officials about the trooper.
Palin’s scandal envelops her in the constellation of scandal-plagued lawmakers currently serving in Alaska. Here’s a brief overview:
Sen. Ted Stevens: Last month, long-serving Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens was indicted by a federal grand jury “with seven counts of making false statements for failing to disclose” gifts of over $250,000 from the oil services company VECO Corp.
State Sen. Ben Stevens (R): The senator’s son, Stevens is being investigated by the FBI for his involvement in “an alleged payment scheme involving fisheries legislation brought by his father.” When VECO’s Bill Allen “pleaded guilty to bribery and conspiracy charges, he stated that almost a quarter of a million dollars in consulting fees paid to the younger Stevens was in fact bribery.”
Rep. Don Young (R): Last year, it was revealed that the senior House Republican was “under criminal investigation” involving “possible political favors for a company in Alaska.” In April, Young’s legal fees exceeded $1 million.
Last week, Palin placed her boards and commissions director, Frank Bailey, on paid leave while the investigation into the suspect firing continues.
She is just as Corrupt as her Mentor Corrupt Alaska Sen. Stevens and now McCain..
The most corrupt Repug in the House…

Republicans are scared of the ole wack mantra, BIG GOVERNMENT..
If you are making below 60k a year, then you need BIG GOVERNMENT. It will help you get GI, Small Business, Medicare, Rebates, Workers Comp, Gas efficiencies, Unemployment benefits, Student Loans and Grants and many other programs for special needs citizens.
If not for BIG GOVERNMENT, if you loose your job, your losing your House and Healthcare and other beefits that protect you until you gain employment..
Republican’s from Reagan,Bush Sr. to Bush Jr. caused the US over $400+ Billion in deficits.
Bush Jr. over $800 Billion deficit in “SMALL GOVERNMENT”..
Republicans All against BIG GOVERNMENT, right Repugs??
Democratic Bill Clinton, so called “BIG GOVERNMENT” by association, $300 Billion Surplus after two so called “SMALL GOVERNMENT REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTS” Reagan and Bush Sr.
Obama has a plan to repeat what Bill Clinton did and then some..
Democratic House means things will get done, the “HIGHLY EDUCATED” right way..

The Albanian American Civic League, or AACL, regards the KLA as “freedom fighters,” said the AACL’s president, former Republican congressman Joe DioGuardi of New York

She was a Journalism Major, not a Political Sci major..
She is not a Magna Cum Laude Grad from Harvard and Columbia like Obama.

You are right midwestlady, electing Obama as president comes with some risk. That is why so many Democrats and Independents supported Hillary Clinton.
But McCain’s recklessness and ill-considered choice for a running mate now makes Obama look like the SAFE CHOICE.
What this choice shows is that McCain does not even know his own mind. We now know that his first choice was Joe Lieberman, but party leader’s shot this down, threatening party revolt. So McCain flipped a coin and chose an unvetted, unseasoned political novice as his running mate. This is just rash.
And we are supposed to let him take over the ship of state?
For months he has been saying experience is important – and now, suddenly, at the drop of the hat, it is NOT?
What changed? Does McCain think the public won’t pick up on this glaring contradiction?
Sen. Kerry was right, Sen. McCain must first resolve the debate with “Candidate” McCain before we, the voting public, can even know what he stands for.
McCain is no longer the “safe choice”, who knows what he’ll say or do next, or how he’ll change his positions.

I’m not so sure Obama can do this for 4 years if he is elected. It will be a disaster if that happens. He doesn’t know what he’s doing. You’ll see when they debate. Everything that comes out of his mouth is scripted.

M@cc, electing Obama comes with a hell of a lot of risk. He has no idea what he’s doing. He’s only aiming to move into the white house at this point and make history. He has no clue what that might entail. Maybe it’s not even dawned on him that he might actually have to handle very serious situations.

Andrea Mitchell reported on MSNBC that McCain met Palin only once at the Republican Governors Conference and then spoke with her on the phone to say she was chosen. This shows that McCain is a real incompetent moron. He didn’t vett this woman. He hardly knows her or anything about her. As someone said, this was McCain Hail Mary Pass, and it looks like a giant bust. McCain looks like a fool while this Palin woman has so many things coming out that are biting him in the butt.

The Palin women have a special genetic trait that allows them to be 5 to 7 months pregnant but yet not look pregnant at all! Must be something in the Alaskan water!

If Palin wasn’t boasting of being a Maverick who would reverse “Ro v. Wade”,
it wouldn’t be so bad, but to see that she stated that her daughter chose to have the child,I find it very hypocritical.
She and McCain said that would reverse Roe v Wade for all women. How could you reverse every woman’s choice that allowed your own daughter to have a choice. The main key is that people fought that Your Daughter would have a choice, yet you would fight to take away every other woman’s or other woman’s daughter choice. HYPOCRIT!!!
While I sympathize with your situation, you are denying every other female their RIGHTS!!!! THAT IS NOT RIGHT !!!!
THAT IS A HYPOCRIT !!!! I’M GLAD ALASKA IS OKAY WITH IT, BUT YOU RUNNING FOR THE UNITED STATES VICE PRESIDENT !!!! AND YOU FIGHTING WOMAN’S RIGHT TO CHOOSE AND THAT IS WRONG !!!!

The simple fact is that even if the supreme court overturns Roe vs. Wade, it just goes back to the states. If you live in a state that says it’s okay to have an abortion, you can. Get pregnant 99 times wiht 99 differnt drunnks. Go for it, democrat. You Dumba$$ social control freak.

WHAT ABOUT THAT BRIDGE TO NOWHERE ANYWAY??
The Republicans and McCain can Hide behind this “minor hurricane” (now downgraded to a CAT 1 and missing New Orleans) for another day or two…
But as the wind and rain goes away, the “Palin VP Pick Storm” is only going to grow! It will grow into the biggest disaster for McCain and the Republicans in the last 50 years!!!!
Bye, bye Mr. McCain!!!!

Whoopie ding…okay, you got me!!! I’m voting for the McCain/Palin ticket now. That just convinced me. I’ll put aside the fact her only qualification is a journalism degree. I’ll put aside the fact that Wasilla, AK has fewer people than my zip code. I’ll put aside the fact that the “reformer” is under investigation for ethics violations by firing a sheriff that wouldn’t fire her ex brother-in-law. I’ll put aside the fact that her husband had a recent DUI. I’ll put aside the fact that her “moral” America, abstinence crap has led to her having a pregnant teenage, unwed daughter.
Posted by: BruhMan | September 1, 2008, 5:42 pm 5:42 pm
Palin’s family life really shouldn’t be an issue, but the problem is that she MADE it an issue. In her introductory speech, she cited her status as a hockey mom, that she had a son going to Iraq, her husband’s snowmobile racing, that she had a special needs baby. None of these are qualifications for being vice president. Then she conveniently left out another important fact about her family: that her 17-year-old daughter is going to make her a grandmother. It looks deceptive, like she was trying to hide it. She only revealed the facts about her family that would supposedly endear her to voters. The deception is the problem, not the fact that her daughter is pregnant.

Midwest Lady
You just called Sen. John McCain a Dolt;-) Stronger words than I would have used, but you are entitled to your opinion.
RE: The importance of experience.
You say: “You can’t have it both ways, M@cc. Unless you are an illogical dolt”
[In other words, either experience is important or it isn't, I can't have it both ways, or else I am an illogical Dolt]
I’ll hold your to your words, but lets see who’s really “a Dolt” here?
Democrats never said, and do not not say, that experience is crucial, they have been saying that JUDGEMENT is crucial – and that Obama shows better JUDGEMENT than MCain on every major issue of the day.
In contrast, McCain has been saying that experience, whatever that experience might be, IS CRUCIAL. He made the importance of “EXPERIENCE” the central theme of his political campaign. Yet now he turns around and selects a political novice from a provincial backwater to be his running mate, and possible replacement?
IT IS THE REPUBLICANS who made such a big deal out of experience, it is McCain who made such a big deal out of experience, and it is McCain who has now demonstrated by his selection of a running mate that he doesn’t think experience is that important.
How did you put it? Ah yes:”You can’t have it both ways, M@cc. Unless you are an illogical dolt”.
Indeed, McCain cannot have it both ways, unless he is an illogical dolt.
According to you, McCain clearly is a DOLT. Your words, not mine ;=)

Palin Almost got Recalled As Mayor!!!
Seriously, though, we’re coming off eight years of cronyism and inept leadership in the White House, which led to everything from Heck Of a Job Brownie to the US Attorney Firing Scandal.
Sarah Palin’s emerging record as Mayor of Wasilla and as Governor are almost a complete mirror of that (though closer to the Mayberry scale than leader of the free world).
But it is a glimpse into the type of “leader” she is. An inept hack, in the George W. Bush mold, who was so brazen with the little power she was given that she faced citizens trying to remove her from office.
Did John McCain even ask her about this, the one time he talked to her on the phone before picking her?
If John McCain wanted a woman on the ticket, there were plenty of conservative women to choose from, who have a respectable record as public officials, and who would arguably be ready to be Commander in Chief. That he chose Sarah Palin, who is nothing short of an embarrassment, speaks volumes about the kind of judgment McCain will show as President.
For if he’s willing to put a nearly-recalled, under-investigation inept hack one heartbeat away from the Presidency, what kind of judgment will he show when choosing Judges and Justices, Secretaries of top departments, and administrators of lead agencies?
This isn’t putting Country First. It’s putting Political PR first (and not even good PR at that).
Sarah Palin as a VP nominee is an affront to the intelligence of every American, and a freakin’ embarrassment.
Well done, John McCain. You’ve shown possibly even worse judgment than George W. Bush, which until now was almost an impossibly high bar to meet.
Did they even do anything CLOSE to vetting Sarah Palin? The other day, I wrote about how Sarah Palin was nothing more than a two-bit hack, given the investigation into her abuse of power as Governor,…

Bill & Barack’s Excellent Adventure
By Thomas Lifson
William Ayers, unrepentant terrorist and education professor, is once again being tied to Barack Obama in the public mind. Controversy builds over the withholding of the archives of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, an expensive failed school reform effort headed by Obama and effectively run by Ayers, held by the library of the University of Illinois Chicago. Researchers who have gained access to a few documents recording the history of the project have found strong evidence of a very important working relationship between the two men on the project, Obama’s sole claim to executive experience.
Oddly enough, even though the project produced no measurable improvement in student performance according to its own final report, educators and administrators — participants and grantees of the CAC — were reported by outside monitors to be often “ebullient” about the activities. For insiders, it was an excellent adventure. For the pupils stuck in the failing public schools of Chicago, an ongoing, unrelieved disaster.
Obama and his campaign long have gone out of their way to downplay, in fact distort, the long and evidently deep relationship between Ayers and Obama. In the Philadelphia Democratic debate last April, George Stephanopoulos asked Obama about his relationship with Ayers, and the candidate responded:
“This is a guy who lives in my neighborhood, who’s a professor of English in Chicago, who I know and who I have not received some official endorsement from. He’s not somebody who I exchange ideas from on a regular basis.
“And the notion that somehow as a consequence of me knowing somebody who engaged in detestable acts 40 years ago when I was 8 years old, somehow reflects on me and my values, doesn’t make much sense, George. [....]
“So this kind of game, in which anybody who I know, regardless of how flimsy the relationship is, is somehow — somehow their ideas could be attributed to me — I think the American people are smarter than that. They’re not going to suggest somehow that that is reflective of my views, because it obviously isn’t.”
Almost two months earlier, the “neighbor” talking point campaign manager David Axelrod introduced the notion that Obama and Ayers were mostly just neighbors, telling The Politico’s Ben Smith,
“Bill Ayers lives in his neighborhood. Their kids attend the same school,” he said. “They’re certainly friendly, they know each other, as anyone whose kids go to school together.”
Ayers and his wife are in their sixties, while the Obamas are in their mid-forties. Ayers’ children are all adults, while Obama’s children are currently 10 and 7. Axelrod’s prevarication is telling, bespeaking confidence that nobody in the media will bother to dispute an obvious falsehood.
“Flimsy” turns out to be a completely misleading word when it comes to characterizing the Obama-Ayers relationship.
Notwithstanding the campaign’s efforts to direct attention away from Ayers, a 527 group, American Issues Project, has just released the following ad tying Obama to Ayers, and says it is spending 2.8 million on television airtime in key states.
Despite the legally questionable embargo of the CAC archives, most of its tax returns and official evaluations of the CAC have already been made public. In the hands of intrepid bloggers such as Steve Diamond, Tom Maguire and Dan Riehl, there is already proof of Obama’s extensive involvement with Ayers over the course of his chairmanship, and an emerging picture of Obama’s indecisiveness and absence when serious problems needed leadership.
Barack Obama joined the CAC shortly after William Ayers and Anne C. Hallett received news that their letter of November 8, 1994 submitting a grant proposal to The Annenberg Challenge had been approved. They were to get as much as $49 million from Annenberg, plus tens of millions more dollars from other foundations. Obama’s involvement predates by months the actual incorporation of the CAC and his appointment as founding chairman of the board. He came on board almost as soon as the proposal was approved.
How on earth did a relatively unknown associate at a politically-connected but small Chicago law firm come to be entrusted with the heady task of handing out tens of millions of dollars of other people’s money?
Keep in mind that Obama was at this point in his career very undistinguished considering his pedigree. It would be a kind understatement to say he had underperformed his academic resume. Three years out of Harvard Law and the Law Review Presidency, here is a short list of some of the things Obama had not done:
Clerked for a US Supreme Court Justice (or any Federal Judge);
worked in an important legal position at any level of serious responsibility;
written a law review article or note or published anything of legal substance.
As of 1995 Obama may have had the most professionally empty resume of any President of the Harvard Law Review three years gone from “The Law School.”
And yet Ayers gave him a gig that would enable him to hand out large amounts of money to many people in Chicago, who could be expected to be grateful, once Obama ran for office — as he was to do later that very year, in an event held at the home of Ayers and Dohrn.
Quite clearly, Obama was already well-enough known and trusted by Ayers to be offered the sensitive, prestigious and highly visible post of chairman of this important new undertaking. So we must ask, when did Obama and Ayers actually first get to know one another? And how did they come to trust one another?
One possible connection between Ayers and Obama was Sidley Austin, the prestigious Chicago law firm where Obama had a summer job after his first year at Harvard Law School, and where he met his future wife Michelle, assigned to him as a mentor. Also working at Sidley Austin was Bernadine Dohrn, wife of William Ayers, and a fellow Weather Underground terrorist. Given the shared “progressive” politics of the three, they probably knew one another and associated together at a firm known as a white shoe corporate practice.
Or Obama might have met Ayers even earlier, during his stint as a community organizer on the South Side of Chicago, in fact. Ayers was a well-known and very active figure in left wing Chicago politics, and might have encountered the young, articulate, Ivy League educated rookie black radical Obama, working in a Saul Alinksy spinoff.
We soon will know much more about the period of collaboration between Obama and Ayers following the start of the CAC. Even if the archives continue to be withheld from public scrutiny, the cat is out of the bag with the documents available to all. The formidable analytical engine of bloggers trading insights and new data is warming up.
But the period prior to 1995, the time when Bill and Barack, the terrorist and the presidential aspirant, got to know one another and build the relationship of trust, is one excellent adventure likely to remain obscure.

It’s ok for the President himself to commit adultery in office and lie under oath…but low and behold a teenager who has not a thing to do with the Presidency becomes pregnant and all hell breaks loose??????

I’m more worried that she is not Trig’s mother, that the daughter is really the mother. Not the biology, the lying.
Also, I know that Sarah Palin is a member of an Alaskan seperatist party.
She wants Alaska to withdraw from the union. That means only one thing…that she hates America and is unpatriotic.
I don’t see how McCain put “Country first”, when his VP puts Alaska first.

News continues to break regarding vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin that could, in the long term, pose serious problems to one of the main thrusts of the McCain campaign: the message of conservative reform.
The presentation of Palin as an anti-earmark, fiscally conscious pol is challenged by a review of recent political records.
As mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, she hired the firm of Hoffman Silver Gilman & Blasco to help secure spending projects for her town. The expenditure apparently paid off.
From 2000 through 2002, Wasilla received more than $5.5 million in federal cash for transportation and social service projects.
According to the group Citizens Against Government Waste, the city received $1 million for a bus facility in 2000. In 2001, the Wasilla Health Center was granted a half million dollars for a community mental health center. That same year the city’s emergency shelter also was granted $500,000 for a transitional living program for homeless youth.
A year later, the Wasilla regional dispatch center received $1 million in pork, the city was granted $1.5 million for water and sewer improvements, and received an additional $600,000 for a bus facility.
The use of the earmark system that — as a vice presidential candidate — Palin now criticizes continued into her tenure as governor. As the Los Angeles Times reported, the state of Alaska requested 31 earmarks worth $197.8 million for next year’s federal budget.
And according to Citizens Against Government Waste, Alaska received $379,669,715 in pork during fiscal year 2008, nearly $100 million more than any other state.
There are important caveats to this information: projects funded by federal earmarks are often viewed positively by voters, particularly in Alaska, and analysts argue that many earmarks serve important community functions and end up saving taxpayer funds in the long run.
But John McCain has made earmark bashing a cornerstone of his campaign, calling the spending projects a “gateway to corruption.” And since taking on the responsibility of running mate, Palin too has presented herself as a thorn in the side of the earmark culture. When introduced to the public last Friday, McCain said of Palin: she “championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending.
” Palin herself touted her opposition to the infamous Bridge to Nowhere, the nearly 400 million-dollar project that Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens requested and which became a rallying cry for McCain. As subsequent news reports pointed out, during her gubernatorial run in 2006, Palin backed the project and sympathized with the communities who wanted the Bridge to Nowhere money. Only when it became a national joke did she change her tune.
Making matters worse, on Monday the Washington Post reported that Palin had previously served on Ted Steven’s political 527 group. The revelation is a notably thorny one for McCain. The Arizona Republican has butted heads with Stevens over spending matters (Palin, too, has challenged the longtime Senator on the matter). And Stevens was recently indicted on seven counts of corruption. On Sunday, moreover, McCain’s chief surrogate and confidante, Sen. Lindsey Graham said of Palin’s foreign policy experience, “if she can handle Ted Stevens she can
handle Russia.”

So what next? We start doing DNA on the candidates children to make sure they are theirs? How about medical tests on their kids too? Gosh forbid we don’t want them distracted by a child who may have an illness. I think we should be entitled to knowing who they have as friends too. And at the same time, we should have public knowledge of the children’s bank accounts. Goodness knows we want to be sure they don’t have too much cash on hand available to them. While we are at it…what about their diets? We need to ban all Presidential candidates from allowing their teens/children from eating in fast food. Wouldn’t be right for them to have all that trans fat and all. Good Lord…what about cars? They need to be forbidden to go anywhere in a car with less than 4 others. Gas crisis, ya know? We need to watch Obama’s little ones too. Can’t let them have those china made toys. Can you imagine if they have too much lead what it will cost us perfect Americans? I tell you. You liberals are the biggest hypocrites ever. First you go and make up stories that Sarah’s infant son is not really hers…then when it comes out that her daughter is pregnant and couldn’t have given birth to the infant…you all switch gears to bash a teenager who already has a long hard road ahead of her….yet, you’re the same group that says women should have the right to their choice? Well her choice is to have and keep her baby. NOW LIVE WITH IT.

The way I look at it, at least Obama can now recognize that Alaska is a state in the USA and hopefully can remember how many states there are. Last I recall….he visited nearly all 48 states of the USA. And you talk about McCain not knowing how many houses he has? ROFL. Sorry. But a 1st grader knows how many states are in the USA. Bet Obama doesn’t forget Alaska now! LOL

Wonder how many people Obama has hired for his SMEAR MACHINE. He took lesson from the corrupt Chicago Political Machine and now half of those members are in jail or indicted. Obama is still under investigation.
How many love child’s has Obama produced? How many pregnancies were aborted. When was the last time he used cocaine? When was the last time he sleep with a guy? All interesting questions but he refuses to answer. Can’t ask the candidate questions about character traits. Obama puts the Africans and Muslims first, not America.

Obama has said he wants to change America. He wants to tax the middle and upper classes to raise up what he calls the worker’s class. He wants to punish those who have worked hard and accumulated wealth with huge increases in taxes. Those tax increases will have to be passed to the middle class because Obama has proposed over a trillion dollars in spending for his new government programs. He says he will fund them with “PAYGO” but his proposals would take 17-20 or more years to fund according to economic theorists. Obama’s plan reeks of Marxism!
All of Obama’s friends are Communists, Socialists, Former Radical terrorists or convicted criminals. He also has ties to a former PLO official who wants Israel blown off of the face of the earth!

Three days after the Chicago Sun-Times reported that Aiham Alsammarae, the former electricity minister convicted of corruption in Iraq, put up $2.7 million in property to help raise $8.5 million to free Tony Rezko from jail in Chicago, the Times reported that Alsammarae had contributed six times to Obama’s presidential campaign.
The April 29, 2008 report also noted that before he escaped from jail in Bagdad in December 2006, and returned to Chicago, Obama’s US Senate office had sought information about Alsammarae from the State Department on October 16, 2006 on behalf of Alsammarae’s family while he was being held in jail in Iraq.
As usual, when busted on the contributions given in January, February and March, the Obama camp said it would donate Alsammarae’s money to charity and his spokesman, Ben LaBolt, put out the standard line that Obama does not ever “recall” meeting Alsammarae.

WHAT ABOUT THAT BRIDGE TO NOWHERE ANYWAY??
McCain!!!!

Hey Obama supportera read this:
August 22, 2008
Clerked for a US Supreme Court Justice (or any Federal Judge);
worked in an important legal position at any level of serious responsibility;
written a law review article or note or published anything of legal substance.

Let’s see, now. Gov. Palin has a state to run. She has a down syndrome baby who she is nursing. She has an underage daughter who has been dragged into the public spotlight clutching that baby to conceal her developing pregnancy. She has a son headed to Iraq. She has two other daughters, and a husband who travels on his job.
Is it sexist to suggest that Sarah Palin should have walked away from the offer of the vice presidential nomination? No more than it was “sexist” to suggest that John Edwards should have dropped out of the presidential contest after his wife learned her cancer had recurred.
Politicians are people. They have families. The very best politicians put their families first, above ambition and personal advancement, especially when their families are being rocked by one crisis after another.

What is known about McCain vetting of Gov. Palin
(disclosure, this info is exerpted from Huffington Post, so take it with a grain of salt).
- the McCain campaign NEVER conducted an FBI background check on the governor, despite its claims to the contrary. Such a check is against FBI policy.
- the McCain campaign NEVER examined old newspaper articles from the Valley Frontiersman, Palin’s hometown newspaper.
This failure in due dilegence was discovered when a Democratic operative requested access to these archives over this past weekend and was met with surprise
Why surprise? Because he was THE FIRST PERSON to ever request access to these files. The McCain campaign NeVEr asked to look at the newspaper archives, archives that cover
go back over 15 years of Gov. Palin’s local and state political career.
- the McCain campaign NEVER ontacted Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan, someone Palin allegedly fired after he refused to remove her sister’s former husband
from the state’s police force. Gov. Palin is currently being investigated by a bi-partisan state commission that is looking into the circumstances of that firing.
- former Republican House Speaker of Alaska, Gail Phillips, told reporters that she was SHOCKED by McCain’s choice of Palin, since she says
“his advance team didn’t come to Alaska to check her out.”

brit, I’ve been reading everyone’s comments on this blog and you have got to be the most ignorant, ill-informed person here tonight. And that says a lot! The racist card isn’t working. When are you going to realize that people are not voting for Obama because he is a disaster. You want to slam Palin’s daughter, but Obama comes with way more baggage and he is running for President. His policies are dangerous, his inexperience is scary and his terrorist and racist friends are an Obamanation! Palin could have done what Barry would have done if one of his daughters was pregnant. Have an abortion, no matter how far along she is, and not tell anyone.
Palin’s daughter is 5 months pregnant, therefore she cannot be the mother to Trig. It’s impossible. I have seen pictures of Palin obviously pregnant, and her water broke so she took a PRIVATE not commercial flight back to Alaska where her Dr’s were to have her baby.
As far as “troopergate” is concerned the trooper tasered a dog and threatened his wife’s family that if they paid for a lawyer to divorce him he would kill them all. Do we really want that kind of person as an officer of the law?
Grow up, you really sound petty and immature.
Posted by: S Adams | September 1, 2008, 7:56 pm 7:56 pm
S. Adams:
She boarded a PRIVATE FLIGHT? Not True. All available articles, from reputable news reports written at the time of the event, say that she boarded an Alaska Airlines flight, that she informed noone of the flight crew that her watered had broken and that she might go into labor at any time.
Other passengers and flight crew were later interviewed and stated that “Gov. Palin sat in a aisle seat, was very pleasant, and no one had any idea that she was pregnant, let alone that she might go into labor at any moment.
You can easily find all of this information at the Website of the Anchorage Daily News, a leading newspaper in Alaska
So the flight was PUBLIC, not PRIVATE, and the governor failed to inform ANYONE OF HER CONDITION. She flew for more than 8 hours, after her water broke, while pregnant with an infant that she knew might need special attention, she failed to go directly to a hospital in Texas and at least have herself looked at, and she failed to inform the flight crew that she might go into labor at any moment.
2. I think every one can agree the trooper brother-in-law is extremely unsavory. That doesn’t excuse the Governor if she tried to influence an official inquiry into this trooper’s behavior by threatening to fire, and then firing the commissioner who reached a conclusion she didn’t like. She should have recused herself. That seems pretty clear to me, and obviously it also does to the bi-partisan commission that is currently investigating her behavior.
Frankly, shouting insults, and passing off false information will not get you very far.
Posted by: M@cchiavelli | September 1, 2008, 8:34 pm 8:34 pm
M@cchiavelli–So sorry, my bad for the mistake of Private and not commercial, but excuse me, making a mistake and blantantly stating false rumors are two very different things. Spreading false rumors that a 17 yrs old girl had a baby and her mother covered for her. Monegan, the commission states that Palin never told him to fire the trooper. She welcomes the case to prove her innocence. The accuser is the man who lost to Palin as governor in 2006.
Not very convincing.
For the record, I do not shout. But the name calling by the far left is very childish.

Under Alaska statutory rape laws, if Bristol baby was conceived while she was 16 then the father has to be either 16 or 17. If not then a felony has been committed. If the father was 15 or younger Bristol is the guilty party REGARDLESS of consent. If the father is 18 or older then HE is guilty of felony statutory rape REGARDLESS of consent.
Of course, the Governor could issue a pardon to either one.

No one hear speaks with certitude of facts. McCain knew of all this before he chose Sarah Palin. He chose her because she is the best candidate to renew Government. She has done an outstanding job Governing Alaska and raising her family without our help. She will do even better without all the second guessing of strangers on newsforums who know not a twit of what they speak. Basic civility would allow any candidate for public office a modicum of privacy for their family and children. We are creating a country where the best, brightest and most gifted public servants will shy away from public office because it is not worth the trashing and threshing the public will put them and their loved ones through. Give people the benefit of the doubt until you know better.
Sarah Palin is an outstanding choice for the McCain ticket. Praise to McCain for choosing her. Go Sarah, GO!!

The pregnancy of Sarah Palin’s unwed daughter is not off-limits in discussions of Governor Palin’s fitness to become the Vice President of the United States.
Why? Because your pregnancy is not off-limits to Sarah Palin, not even if you are the victim of rape or incest.

Yes it may be unfair to attack the mother by dredging up the daughter”s sexual mistakes. But, the Republicans started this when they impeached President Clinton over consensual sex between 2 adults well over 18. They opened the door to allowing the Presidents personal life to be publically scrutinized, and they only have themselves to blame now.
The fact of the matter is that according to figures from advocatesforyouth.org which are simple copies of government reports, less than 10% of American teenagers having sex ever become pregnant. Playing to the base will not play to the everyone in the middle and the other side. I can’t even imagine how how this person was the best for the ticket. 3 Days out and this stuff comes out. What else is on the way.

The republicans started all of this by impeaching president Clinton? What does that have to do with Gov. Palin and her family? Because they are in the same party, this is payback? How absurd. It wasn’t Sarah Palin, and it certainly wasn’t her daughter, who impeched Pres. Clinton, although I’m sure the brilliant blogsters will start spreading that one next.

How come the liberal Dems are so up in arms about a pregnant teenager that has a loving supportive family, yet saw nothing wrong with a President the lied under oath and used the Oval office (and I am sure many other places) as his personal, sexual playground? I do not care for Obama, yet he was more of a man than I have seen to this point when he stated this was a ‘hands off’ situation. I also do not care for McCain, but this Gov. Palin has impressed me with her honesty. Leave Bristol Palin alone!! Worry about who will do something about the price of gas!!

The reason Palin could not let Trig be born in Texas is, she is a key member of the Alaskan Independence Party, and Trig had to be born in Alaska, which Palin intends to make into an independent nation. Palin sees in the future, Trig needed to be born in Alaska so when he grows up he will be a citizen of the nation of Alaska.

Has nothing to do with discrimination==
Yes, it does. You people say that she should stayhome with family. You wouldn’t say that about a man.
==Let’s also not forget which Presidential candidate refuses to pledge allegiance to the flag, and refuses to wear a flag lapel. At the same time, whose wife…Michelle…had some pretty predjudiced statements to make about white people in her masters thesis. And those are the folks you people want in the White House? ==
That’s precisely what they want.

A Voice From The Alaskan Wilderness: On Sarah Palin & Much Much More.
http://mudflats.wordpress.com/2008/08/29/what-is-mccain-thinking-one-alaskans-perspective/
Note: Barack Obama was a State Senator and is now a Federal Senator who sits on the Foreign Relations Committee alongside Joe Biden, who is his More Experienced senator, liken unto JFK and LBJ, but Palin’s so called “Executive Experience” is a Rush Limbaugh-Sean Hannity …JOKE on the American Populus…
MCCAIN-PALIN WILL…. LOSE
After extensive news coverage about all this nasty behind-the-scenes scandal, which is definitely NOT squeaky clean, Palin’s approval ratings fell to 67%, still high, but a far cry from the 90% number that’s being thrown around so glibly by the Republicans today. Alaskans are quickly becoming disillusioned once again.
“Executive Experience”
Before her meteoric rise to political success as governor, just two short years ago Sarah Palin was the mayor of Wasilla. I had a good chuckle at MSN.com’s claim that she had been the mayor of “Wasilla City”. It is not a city. Just Wasilla.
Wasilla is the heart of the Alaska “Bible belt” and Sarah was raised amongst the tribe that believes creationism should be taught in our public schools, homosexuality is a sin, and life begins at conception. She’s a gun-toting, hang ‘em high conservative. Remember…this is where her approval ratings come from.
There is no doubt that McCain again is making a strategic choice to appeal to a particular demographic – fundamentalist right-wing gun-owning Christians.
And Republican bloggers are already gushing about how she has ‘more executive experience’ than Obama does!
Above is a picture of lovely downtown Wasilla, for those of you unfamiliar with the area. Behind the Mug-Shot Saloon (the first bar I visited when I moved to Alaska long ago) is a little strip mall. There are street signs in Wasilla with bullet holes in them.
Note: Wasilla has a population of about 5500 people, and 1979 occupied housing units.
This is where your potential Vice President was two short years ago. Can you imagine her negotiating a nuclear non-proliferation treaty? Discussing foreign policy? Understanding non-Alaskan issues?
Frankly, I don’t even know if she’s ever been out of the country. She may ‘get’ Alaska, but there are only a half a million people here. Don’t get me wrong….I love Alaska with all my heart. I’m just saying.
I, and all Alaskans will be interested to see how this whole process unfolds. This is definitely a gamble for McCain, and in my humble opinion, a gift to Obama and to Joe Biden who just got thrown a big hunk of red meat for the vice presidential debate.
This is the wedge-issue, desperate ’Hail Sarah’ pass of the McCain campaign.

Sarah Palin: Was a member of an Alaskan Seperatist Organization, that wanted to Seccede the State of Alaska from the United States Of America and You Low Lifes want her Neophyte A!! as Your President !!!
Members of ‘Fringe’ Alaskan Independence Party Say Palin Was a Member in 90s
September 01, 2008 6:52 PM
The campaign of Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., likes to herald the independence of its new running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.
NOTE: Officials of the Alaskan Independence Party say that Palin was once so independent, she was once a member of their party, which, since the 1970s, has been pushing for a legal vote for Alaskans to decide whether or not residents of the 49th state can secede from the United States.
And while McCain’s motto — as seen in a new TV ad — is “Country First,” the AIP’s motto is the exact opposite — “Alaska First — Alaska Always.”
Lynette Clark, the chairman of the AIP, tells ABC News that Palin and her husband Todd were members in 1994, even attending the 1994 statewide convention in Wasilla. Clark was AIP secretary at the time.
“We are a state’s rights party,” says Clark, a self-employed goldminer. The AIP has “a plank that challenges the legality of the Alaskan statehood vote as illegal and in violation of United Nations charter and international law.”
She says it’s not accurate to describe the party as secessionist — they just want a vote, she says, adding that the members of the AIP hold different opinions on what Alaska should be.
“My own separate opinion as an individual is that we should be an independent nation,” Clark says. Others in the AIP “believe that being a commonwealth would be a good avenue to follow.” Some advocate statehood — but a fuller statehood than exists now.
She doesn’t know what Palin’s position was.
“It never came up in conversation,” Clark recalls. “But when she joined the party, our platform was right under her nose.”
Clark says that Palin left the party and became a Republican in 1996, when she first ran for mayor of Wasilla.
The McCain-Palin campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The AIP platform states that the purpose of the party is to “seek the complete repatriation of the public lands, held by the federal government, to the state and people of Alaska in conformance with Article 1, Section 8, Clause 17, of the federal constitution …
To prohibit all bureaucratic regulations and judicial rulings purporting to have the effect of law, except that which shall be approved by the elected legislature …
To support the privatization of government services …”
Walter Hickel, a former Republican governor, was elected to the governorship in 1990 as an AIP member — the third-largest party in Alaska — with a plurality vote of 38.8%.
A Seattle Post-Intelligencer story that year said that “Hickel is running with the Alaska Independence Party, a fringe group advocating that the 49th state declare itself a sovereign nation. But he’s not a separatist; he’s an opportunist: the Independence Party was

Republicans a bragging that this 17-year old will get married anyways which I believe to be another wrong judgement. Is she really ready? I hope they are not forcing these kids just to make them look “moral”. By the way, one good thing is Palin is an NRA member. I am pretty sure this is gonna be a shot gun wedding. The issue here is hypocrisy. Republicans are not credible with regards to family value at all.

I am sure that these “holier than thou” Republicans didn’t have the same understanding when Jamie Spears announced she was preganant! Yes, things happen, but the REPUBS need to be compassionate to EVERYONE not just their “own”. 100 years ago…being pregnant at 17 wasn’t a big deal because girls didn’t go to school…they just went off to get married. I don’t like the idea of suggesting that a pregnancy MAKES a marriage mandatory.

“Bristol is not 5 months pregnant.
Come on people, I was born at night but not last night.”
It’s pretty obvious for lack of solid evidence to the contrarry that the rumor of Palin being the grandmother of the down syndrome baby is true, and the current pregnancy story of the daughter is a red herring. “Oh what tangled webs we weave when first we practice to conceive.”
Next VP pick: Kathleen Harris
GO McInsane!

The GOP has always been the family values party. John McCain recently indicated his greatest moral failing was his adulterous relationship with the much younger Cindy (McCain) while he was married to his first wife, and this led to the failure of his first marriage. Gov. Palin pushed abstinence only sex education policy in Alaska, and it obviously doesn’t work with her high school age daughter getting pregnant. McCain is opposed to pork barrel spending while Palin collected 27 million dollars in pork barrel projects while Mayor in Wasilla, Alaska population of 9000 to her strong connection to senator Ted Stevens. Palin ran for Governor on an anti-corruption platform and was public endorsed by Senator Ted Stevens. During her acceptance speech she praised the bridge to nowhere project. She later changed her tune when the National media got a hold of the project and was giving it negative attention. Further, Palin was greatly embarassed that her close politcal ally Senator Stevens was arrested by the FBI for corruption actions in Alaska. McCain wants Hillary Clintons 18 million supporters that is why he picked Palin without properly vetting her. McCain just sent a team of 12 lawyers to Alaska to try to help Palin beat the Trooper-gate or Wottengate scandal and to do damage control. Palin has hired her own attorney to deal with legislative investigation which could result in censure or impeachment for ethics, or conflict of interst violations. John McCain is a lot smarter than this. There is no way that he knew all of this prior to offering her the VP slot. If she cared about the Republican party she should have let him know all of this in detail. Bush/Cheney have a record low approval rating, gasoline prices are soaring, the economy is in trouble, and we’re spending billions of dolars each month in Iraq, we have the largest national debt in history, Russia and China are growing stronger and becoming greater threats everyday to our country’s interests, and we’ve lost about 4000 American troops in Iraq so far and the country still isn’t stable, and Iraq may well turn into an all out civil war when the US military eventually leaves. All of this and the Iraqi’s don’t even appreciate our help.
I voted for Ronald Reagan, George Bush, his son George W. Bush but I have no intention of voting for John McCain and Sarah Palin. America wake up, the Republicans had their turn for the last 8 years. Enough is enough. Let go of your fear of diversity, let go of racism, it is time for the United States of America to stop being red and blue states and to become one united country. It is truly a time for change Obama/Biden is this right vote for our country at this moment in history…

How ‘ bout these tidbits from http://www.traditionalvalues.org/modules.php?sid=3282 :
1. Barack Obama, Sr., was married at the time to Kezia Obama, who was three months pregnant when her husband moved to Hawaii on a government scholarship to attend the University of Hawaii. Obama never formally divorced Kezia, yet married Stanley Ann while living in Hawaii.
2. Six months after Barack and Stanley Ann wed, they announced the birth of Barack Obama, Jr. on August 4, 1961.
SIX MONTHS!!!??? What’s wrong with the picshur???
3. Barack Obama, Sr., soon left his wife and newborn son, Barack, Jr., to continue his studies at Harvard University.
You mean to say that Harvard was more important than his family!!???
4. At some point in the 1970s when Barack was attending school in Hawaii, he became acquainted with Frank Marshall Davis, a member of the Communist Party, USA. Davis had moved to Hawaii in 1948 from Chicago where he had been involved in Marxist-related activities.
Gee, no kiddin’. Say it isn’t so.

I have always been tired of the GOP using Religion and God to sway voters….it should simply be about the critical issues and the best leaders to build concensus and implement necessary change to help ALL Americans, not just the faithful. I thought it was hypocritical that Gov. Palin had her poor 17year old daughter holding the 4-month baby with a blanket covering her belly…if she was sooo proud, why were they hiding this? This is so obviously a tactic and it insults educated women like me who can see right thru this risky move. I wonder how the GOP and the media would react if it was a political family that happeed to be Hispanic or black? Would we see it as simply a “common mistake”?! or, would we call it another example of the lack of American values and a baby out of wedlock?!?
Clearly there is a double standard and hypocrisy…Again, it should be about the best candidates and focus on issues.
