McCain & Obama Trade Blows Over Faltering Economy
Is John McCain or Barack Obama better geared to right this economy? Both candidates have been bashing each other…Obama seizing on a Monday morning statement yesterday by his running mate that the "fundamentals of the economy are strong." Later on the McCain campaign appeared to recognize that statement wasn’t enough and the candidate spoke of an economic crisis. This morning McCain clarified that when talking about the "fundamentals of the American economy" he was referring to the American worker — the best and hardest working in the world. Curious what both candidates ACTUALLY are proposing to fix things? Read here.

I think that the mccain/palin bounce has just started to head downward. No matter how hard mccain tries to distance himself from bush/cheney people will realize that mccain/palin will be bush-3. Obama/Biden 2008!!!

Let’s see: who is better prepared to help correct a faltering economy – a candidate who at age 71 said he “doesn’t really understand the economy” whose onetime top economic advisor called this year’s economic woes a “mental recession” OR a Harvard educated lawyer and community organizer who demonstrates easy familiarity with economic concepts and has been talking for 19 months about some of the problems that are now hitting the market full-bore?
Yesterday McCain said the fundamentals of the economy were strong. Then he tried to correct the egregiousness of this statement by saying that he meant the strength of the American worker. WHAT A TRANSPARENT LIE!

Yesterday McCain said the “fundamentals of our economy are strong.” Then, in an attempt to cover for the egregiousness of this statement he tried to say he meant the strength of the American worker – that’s what is strong. WHAT A TRANSPARENT LIE! No one should trust McCain on the economy -he said himself that he doesn’t understand it.

McCain = DISHONORABLE

The McCain campaign has turned into lying about lies!
What can I say? He will lie some more to defend his position on lying. It is going to be interesting to watch.
Who does he pick for VP? No other than another liar, who can’t help herself. Even lying about using a teleprompter, as if that is some great accomplishment anyway, all politicians and speech makers use the things. Why does she make a big deal out of it? It is pathological.

jon in Maryland:
Obama has no experience on the economy. It is ridiculous to assert that he has acquired the necessary knowledge on the campaign trail! You don’t really believe that, do you?!!!
Obama’s experience as community organizer was to register people to vote for him! He studied law, not economics, at Harvard!

I don’t trust either one of them Jon. I’m an Ivy educated attorney as well, but that does not qualify me to manage the world’s largest economy. I can also speak about financial markets with ease — and if I had the number of advisors preparing “talking points” for me as does Obama, then I could really wow audiences.
Unfortunately, the problems with the economy extend far beyond any presidential leadership. Certainly, the president can sponsor legislation to regulate industry, but Congress and industry are probably even more powerful in this regard. Where have the Democrats been on the issue of financial markets?
During the last few years, financial companies, the real estate industry, and American consumers became greedier than ever, and we are now paying the price of that recklessness. When low-income people seek public assistance, people call them irresponsible. Now, with the wealthy creating such an enormous crisis, we are trying to blame a president for not helping/policing them. What a contradiction.

Leopards can never change their spots, and no matter how much the Obamessiah and the democrats preach about “tax cuts” for all but the “rich”, their record is one of tax increases, “fee increases”, inheritance taxes, federal exise taxes, etc.

Thinking (and others): Although I am a Democrat who loathes conservatism, I am stunned by the contradictions in the way Dems online and the media have treated McCain’s “lies” versus Obama’s. Obama clearly distorted McCain’s statement about the Iraq War. McCain never said he wanted a 100 years war. Instead, he said he believed that a longterm presence in Iraq, similar to our presence in South Korea, is probably appropriate.
Obama also pledged to accept public campaign financing – until he said he would not. Obama also said that Clinton’s vote for the war showed that she lacked judgment in foreign affairs. But he picks Biden – who voted for the war (and Nafta!).
Obama is riddled with contradictions, but seemingly, only McCain and Palin’s distortions and untruths are worthy of commentary. True progressives despise double-standards. Unfortunately, I am beginning to realize that most Democrats are not true progressives.

John McCain definetly doesn’t have a clue. Question from the Reagan library:
Do you think we are better off now that 8 years ago?
Rudi – Yes
McCain – Yes
Romney – Yes
Huckabee – Possibly
Ron Paul – Hell no!

wow, have been away for 4 weeks overseas, and it looks like, upon returning, that McCain’s Palin gimmick, has the country drinking the Republican kool-aid again – distracting us from the real disaster this administration has visited on this country. As Einstien said “insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result” – when are we going to learn?

Who believes anything McCain says anymore? And Palin is acting like Bush/Cheney before she’s even elected. She’s got the ‘executive privilege’ bug and is too high and mighty to answer tough questions.

Only republican to tell the truth in the debates was Paul. How can anyone vote republican this time after all the terrible foreign policy and bankrupting initiatives. I will admit the dems suck too, but it is there turn to screw things up.

Don’t blame McCain for our economic mess. Blame Phil Gramm….

“the fundamentals of the economy are strong.” John McCain 9/15 – “The issue of economics is not something I’ve understood as well as I should. I’ve got Greenspan’s book.” 02/08 – It’s easy for me to go to Washington and, frankly, be somewhat divorced from the day-to-day challenges people have.” 9/11
do we need to know anymore…?

Is there anyone who can make a reasonable argument that Obama understands the economy better than McCain?
Posted by: wants to vote democratic | September 16, 2008, 11:14 am 11:14 am
wants to vote democratic – Actually I believe Obama and McCain both really don’t understand economics, but they probably have plenty of advisors telling them what to say. Ron Paul was really the only candidate to have a stated interest in monetary policy. He has gone toe to toe with Bernanke on numerous occasions, and it is fun to watch. Making Bernanke squirm isn’t easy. I would recommend voting Obama over McCain because of foreign policy although Obama has gotten worse and more militant especially with regards to Russia and Pakistan. Our current foreign policy is making more enemies than we can possibly imagine and bankrupting us in the process. My real recommendation is for everyone to vote 3rd party. A 3rd party win would make every politician that is in bed with big business crap their pants.

Angry Black Democrat? Make that Angry White Republican to be more precise. So McCain never contradicts himself? McCain doesn’t stretch the truth and lie about Obama? How about the “teach sex education to kindergartners” lie last week, when all Obama wanted was to explain inappropriate touching by adults to kindergartners. I guess you could say that was “sex education”. Yes, keep pushing that “scare” button against Obama every chance you get. Only McCain can keep America safe (and he would accept the presence of American forces in Iraq for an indeterminate amount of time (maybe 100 years!!) even if the Iraqis don’t want us there? only McCain can help the economy; only McCain can fix education, illegal immigration, and all the other social ills that have befallen this country. He’s 72 now, and he is beginning to look very tired. If he gets elected, Palin may have to finish out his term. Good Bye, America!!

Obama keeps crying about how bad the economy is,
but if Americans are hurting so bad, how come they
were able to send Obama 66 million dollars last month?
… And, tonight Obama is asking Americans to give him
$28,500.00 each for the Obama/Streisand fund
raiser dinner. Two faced Obama has no credibility.
No Wright, no Farrakhan, no Pfleger, no Rezko,
no Ayers, no mean Michelle, and, NOBAMA !!!
