Memo to Jim Lehrer: Questions for Obama & McCain from Foreign Policy Experts
ABC News’ Tahman Bradley Reports: In front of millions of U.S. television viewers this Friday, Sens. John McCain R-Ariz., and Barack Obama, D-Ill., will take questions from PBS’s Jim Lehrer on foreign policy and national security issues at the first presidential debate. At a Monday Council on Foreign Relations event in Washington, DC, accomplished foreign policy thinkers suggested areas that could be explored in the McCain-Obama debate.
Some of the questions listed below are written exactly as posed by the experts, while others have been modified.
Questions
1. With the United States’ power around the world largely built on its economic influence, how does the current U.S. financial market crisis affect U.S. power in the world?
2. With the bailouts of Wall Street giants likely to increase the massive U.S. deficit and foreign entities buying up a large chuck of that debt, what do you see as some of the foreign policy consequences of foreign entities buying U.S. debt?
3. What’s the sustainability of foreign entities investing in the U.S. at a time when the U.S. markets seem to be in so much trouble?
4. What does Kim Jong Il’s incapacitation mean for the Six-Party Talks in Asia? How would you respond to a crisis scenario in Asia?
5. Where do you place Asia in your overall foreign policy agenda?
6. What work needs to be done to reform NATO to meet the challenges of the 21 century?
7. Do you think that climate change and energy issues should be treated as separate issues? If not, how are they related?
8. If Iran got a nuclear weapon, would you attack?
9. Are we at war beyond Irag and Afghanistan with terrorism or with some subset of terrorism or not?
10. What level of risk are we willing to accept to reduce the scale of the threat from terrorism or some terrorism group to the American homeland?
11. What scale of effort are we willing to undertake in order to reduce the risk to the America homeland from some terrorist group?
12. What are our aims in the two ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and what level of sacrifice are we willing to support in exchange for those aims?
13. Will you push for the international community to more toward a "league of democracies" and away from the United Nations?
Credit the terrific questions to a panel consisting of: Stephen Biddle, Michael J. Gerson, James M. Goldgeier, Michael A. Levi, Sebastian Mallaby and Sheila A. Smith. Two of the panel members — Sheila Smith and James Goldgeier — are advisors to Sen. Obama’s campaign.
Give these folks a quick Google search if you’re not familiar with them.

This is cheating.
You can not realease the exam questions before the exam.
You are evening the playing field and helping the weaker candidate.
This is unfair to the American voter.
You must be in the tank for McCain.

Tonight both campaigns had representatives debated about foreign policy issues in Asia in a debate hosted by Tha National Bureau of Asian Research. Jim Lehrer should take a look at some of the controversial comments made by both campaigns.

Let’s be honest, very few of our Presidents have had any foreign policy experience before becoming President. The President is essentialy a C.E.O. with plenty of “experts” at his disposal. Which, by the way, is why Sarah Palin with her executive experience would likely make a better President than any of the men who are running with or against her.
Posted by: Ron | September 22, 2008, 7:46 pm 7:46 pm
Good heavens, I ran a sucessful company for over 20 yrs. I have a lot more executive experience then Sarah does. Does that qualify me for vp of the USA. No it does not!!

“Sarah Palin with her executive experience would likely make a better President than any of the men who are running with or against her”
Well, Ron, that’s the stupidest thing I’ve heard this week. Sarah Palin threatened war against Russia in her first TV interview. Her appeal to republicans is that she is a Pentacostal End of Times believer. She couldn’t even wait until her first TV interview to let it out — War with Russia.
“Executive Experience” means nothing. Judgement means everything. Barack Obama is the only one in the race with the judgement to keep our country safe from phoney wars.
Did anyone notice that American deaths in Iraq are on the rise again? 13 in July, 23 in August, 18 in the first 22 days of September (a rate of 25 fatalities per month)? We are losing the war in Iraq, the war in Afghanistan, the war in Pakistan, the war on terror.
Maybe if we elect Palin as Ron has suggested we could have War with Russia too.
Obama. A better road lies ahead.

I think the questions should come from someone in Hollywood, say, Sandra Bernhard. She, like most in Hollywood, appear to be fair minded and very balanced. Their acting gives them great skill and insight into how we should be running the country and living our lives.
Which ever way Hollywood votes, I vote. They do all the thinking I need….I just do whatever they say.

PMS – I see you have read most of the blog here and can tell who is listening to Hollywood. It’s scary to think that those Hollywood followers can vote.
Like someone wrote above – “ENOUGH OF REPUBLICAN LIES AND HIPOCRECY” bring on the lies and hipocracy of the democrats. We need a change!

What’s wrong with hollywood’s point of view? They are right 100% of the time, never wrong. I follow them and their opinion at every turn. I no longer have to think for my self. That falls right in line with the democrats taking the white house. I will no longer have to fend for myself, the government will take care of me. Obama promised.
Posted by: clifton | September 22, 2008, 8:25 pm 8:25 pm
– then why should you judge Sarah? –
Because she and McCain are asking for our votes, and we owe it to, not just ourselves, but our country, to decide who would best fit that role. However, the Republican party apparently doesn’t even want us to do that, since it has prevented her from engaging in any real dialog and has even altered the format of the upcoming VP debates to accommodate her lack of experience. The GOP has also stepped in to the Governors office in Alaska, preventing people from obtaining information about her during her term in office and are preventing an ongoing investigation in hopes that they can stall until after the elections, all the while claiming to the American people that they support transparency in government. If they are not trying to hide something, then they sure are making it look like they are. If she cannot stand up to the scrutiny of a debate, or the questioning of the American people, then she has no business running for the position she is. I for one have a bitter taste in my mouth regarding the way this whole ordeal has been handled, and it’s not just me.. remember, the rest of the world is watching as well.

When asked by ABC News’ Charlie Gibson whether she had ever met a foreign head of state, Palin responded, “I have not and I think if you go back in history and if you ask that question of many vice presidents, they may have the same answer that I just gave you. But, Charlie, again, we’ve got to remember what the desire is in this nation at this time. It is for no more politics as usual and somebody’s big, fat resume maybe that shows decades and decades in that Washington establishment, where, yes, they’ve had opportunities to meet heads of state.”
well SARAH PALIN sure as HECK is not talking about Senator OBAMA… because he does not have DECADES AND DECADES in Washington… hmmm….
NO PEOPLE, I RECKON SHE’S TALKING ABOUT HER OWN CANDIDATE!
why? BECAUSE, she TOLD a newsweek reporter that there simly was no-one in teh GOP she would consider for president BEFORE MCCAIN ASKED HER TO RUN WITH HIM.

RON, THANK YOU. HERE:
The Obama and McCain campaigns have agreed to an unusual free-flowing format for the three televised presidential debates, which begin Friday, but the McCain camp fought for and won a much more structured approach for the questioning at the vice-presidential debate.
At the insistence of the McCain campaign, the Oct. 2 debate between the Republican nominee for vice president, Gov. Sarah Palin, and her Democratic rival, Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr., will have shorter question-and-answer segments than those for the presidential nominees, McCain advisers said. There will also be much less opportunity for free-wheeling, direct exchanges between the running mates.
McCain advisers said they had been
concerned that a loose format could
leave Ms. Palin, a relatively
inexperienced debater, at a
disadvantage and largely on the
defensive.

MORE BAD NEWS FOR McCAIN AND PALIN!!
WASHINGTON (CNN) – A new CNN/Opinion Research Corporation Poll suggests that by a 2-to-1 margin, Americans blame Republicans over Democrats for the financial crisis that has swept across the country the past few weeks — one factor that may have contributed to an apparent increase in Barack Obama’s edge over John McCain in the race for the White House.
In the new survey, released Monday afternoon, 47 percent of registered voters questioned say Republicans are more responsible for the problems currently facing financial institutions and the stock market, with 24 percent saying Democrats are more responsible. One in five of those polled blame both parties equally, and 8 percent say neither party is to blame.
McCain just can’t shake all those years of deregulation, with a weeks of incoherent rants!!!
Bye, bye McSenile…

National Security and Foreign Policy are McCain’s to win. Why would they give the sock puppet (and McCain for that matter) a cheat sheet. We all know Bozo will run his lines, like an actor in a movie and we’ll miss his stammering that is typical when he is trying to think of an answer. I would prefer callers like in previous debates as McCain is great at town halls and off the cuff, unrehearsed answers. IS THAT RIGHT? YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT DISTORT?
LET’S…
POSTED BY CHRISTIE LAST NIGHT… ANSWERED BY ME:
CHRITIE-This is what I know about Barry Obama.
RESPONSE- WELL YOU DON’T EVEN KNOW HIS REAL NAME: BARACK OBAMA
CHRISTIE – He’s promoting higher taxes. Bad idea in many ways .. it would destroy the economy.
RESPONSE – MCCAIN’S PLAN ALSO RAISES TAXES! AND YOU CAN SEE THAT ON HIS OFFICIAL WEBSITE. IF YOU VISIT FACTCHECK according to THEM Obama’s economic plan calls for cuts for middle-income taxpayers and would increase rates only for people with family incomes above $250,000 or for individuals making over $200,000
CHRISTIE: He’s supporting gay marriage.
RESPONSE: ALTHOUGH HE HAS WORKED WITH LEGISLATION TO END ABUSE BASED ON SEXUAL ORIENTATION, AND THE FACT THAT HE SUPPORTS CIVIL UNIONS, HE IS IN FACT AGAINST GAY MARRIAGE.
SOURCE: INTERVIEW WITH THE CHICAGO DAILY TRIBUNE – Obama said, “I’m a Christian. And so, although I try not to have my religious beliefs dominate or determine my political views on this issue, I do believe that tradition, and my religious beliefs say that marriage is something sanctified between a man and a woman.”
ALSO OBAMA VOTED AGAINST A FEDERAL MARRIAGE AMENDMENT AND OPPOSED THE DEFENSE OF MARRIAGE ACT IN 96
SOURCHE: NATIONAL GAY AND LESBIAN TASK SOURCE
CHRISTIE: He says some departments will be cut. I image like Clinton, that means the defense department.
MY RESPONSE: I AGREE, YOU MUST HAVE IMAGINED IT.
CHRISTIE: He will draw up a socialize medical care. Whoa, like Canada. You get the doctor of no- choice, Barry.
RESPONSE: THERE IS NO SUCH CLAIM. IF YOU FIND IT, THEN PLEASE POST IT BECAUSE I SIMPLY CANNOT FIND ANYTHING OF THE LIKE. NOT EVEN ON HIS BLUE PRINT.
CHRISTIE: He’s supported state legislation when babies are born alive, they will have no medical attention while the nurses have to be apart of disposing of the little baby’s body. What a great role model for human rights.
RESPONSE: WHAT? LADY YOU NEED TO RE-ORGANIZE THIS MESS OF A PARRAGRAPH
CHRISTIE : We’ll have more government corruption the Chicago way.
HUH? – RESPONSE
FACT: ACCORDING TO THE FBI, IN 2006 ANCHORAGE ALASKA HAD MORE RAPE CASES THAN CHICAGO, IL…. ABOUT 98% MORE. THE 2007 FIGURES ARE NOT OUT YET.
SOURCE: FBI’S CRIMINAL STATISTICS. I POSTED THIS ALREADY.
Barry will do no drilling because the green-peacers would own Obama.
OH FOR GOD’S SAKE…
Barry says no running your air conditioners below 73. Yikes, can’t do what I want in my home.
LOL! YOU ARE HILARIOUS! LOL!!!!
Barry says we all need to keep our tire pressure down so our tires can cause an accident from improper inflation of tires. More medical bills. Not smart idea.
OH I GET IT, YOU’RE TALKING ABOUT A REAL BARRY?
Barry wants us to all speak several languages so the other countries won’t ridicule us so English will not be the official language.
QUE BRUTA ERES CRISTINA! NON E NIENTE EN LA TUA TESTA! – MY RESPONSE I AM GOING TO CALL YOU MY POSTER CHILD FOR UNDER-ACADEMIC EDUCATION.
Limited gun rights, you know it, he can’t do anything about crime. See the crime in Chicago is staggering.
RESPONSE: ACCORDING TO INDEPENDANT PUBLISHER CQPRESS, THE 15 MOST DANGEROUS CITIES IN 2007 WERE: DETROIT, MI – ST LOUIS, MO – FLINT, MI – OAKLAND, CA – CAMDEN, NJ – BIRMINGHAM, AL – NORTH CHARLESTON, SC – MEMPHIS, TN – RICHMOND, CA – CLEVELAN, OH – ORLANDO, FL – BALTIMORE (ALSO HIGHEST RATE) MD – LITTLE ROCK, AK – COMPTON, CA – YOUNGSTOWN, OH – CINCINATTI, OH – GARY, IND- KANSAS CITY, MO – DAYTON, OH – NEWARK, NJ – PHILADELPHIA, PENN, ATLANTA, GA – JACKSON, MO – BUFFALO, NY – KANSAS CITY, KA
NOW I KNOW THERE WAS A SURGE IN CRIME WITHIN SEVEN MONTHS IN CHICAGO, BUT IF YOU COMPARE IT AND ADD ITS ENTIRE HISTORY FOR THE YEAR, IT IS STILL WELL BELOW KANSAS CITY MO – WHICH I AM USING TO BE FAIR! SINCE IT IS THE LAST OF THE CITIES WITH HIGHEST CRIME… I HAVE MADE A CHART, AS MY SOURCE.. WITH INFO FROM KANSAS CITY POLICE DPT AND COMPARED IT ALONGSIDE CHICAGO… DUE TO THEIR DIFFERENCE IS POPULATION, KANSAS CRIME RATE OVERTOWERS CHICAGO LIKE YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE!
ALMOST DOUBLE THE CRIME!
CHRISTIE: He doesn’t like powerful women who get in his political way..Mrs. Clinton, Palin. Look at his remarks about these 2 women.
RESPONSE: WHAT REMARKS? THERE HAS NEVER BEEN ANY DISRESPECTFUL REMARKS TOWARD SENATOR CLINTON BASED ON THE FACT THAT SHE IS A WOMAN. ONLY THE SAME REMARKS SHE WOULD GET IF SHE WAS A MAN… BY THE WAY, SENATOR CLINTON DID NOT WANT TO BE TREATED AS A WOMAN… SHE WANTED TO BE TREATED AS A SENATOR. WHAT REMARKS WITH PALIN? THE PIG AND THE LIPSTICK?
CHRISTIE: He thinks there’s 57 states in America. LOL.

He has a relationship with a radical church and ties to a terrorist who blew up buildings in the US and Obama sat on a board with the very same terrorist.
He didn’t win his Senate seat with honor. It was a lot of dirty tricks played on each of his opponents.
This is just a few things. This is why I am voting for McCain. I do not distrust my country and I am for strong military defense.

Yeah, he sure proved how his ‘off the cuff’ qualities wound up putting a foot in his mouth this past week. Regardless, it will be an interesting debate and I look forward to seeing how each one does.

GIGI – what do you have to say? You mentioned Biden’s tragedy. It was a tragedy. Biden has lied on more than one occasion about the accident being caused by a drunk driver, and his own website shows this lie. What do you have to say to the family of the man Biden slanders? Is Biden so out of touch that he thinks it’s OK to slander this man?

GiGi, It is helpful if you can site a source that a person can actually read/see. Otherwise, it’s still just your saying so.

The newsweek one. Where’s the source sited for the newsweek reporter who said what you said he/she said? and do you think it’s OK for Biden to slander the man who was unfortunate enough to have had Biden’s wife pull out in front of him? stop avoiding the question.

– He’s been in office for what 143 days and voted mostly present. –
Apparently, you have his stint in the Illinois senate confused with his stint in the US congress:
Reality:
It is true that during his 8 years in the Illinois Senate, Mr. Obama voted 130 times as “Present”. However, that represents only roughly 3% of the 4000 votes he cast while in office, and is not as unusual as many critics would lead people to believe. In an analysis of Obamas voting record while in the Illinois Senate, the New York Times wrote:
“Sometimes the “present’ votes were in line with instructions from Democratic leaders or because he objected to provisions in bills that he might otherwise support. At other times, Mr. Obama voted present on questions that had overwhelming bipartisan support. In at least a few cases, the issue was politically sensitive.”
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/20/us/politics/20obama.html
While the McCain campaign has continued to use this in attacks against Obama, they are hardly in a position to be criticizing. In the US Senate, McCain has missed more votes than any other Senator, missing 412 votes, or over 64% overall. And in fact, Obama has cast more votes in the US Senate (348 votes) than McCain has (231 votes).

NEWSWEEK
Updated: 5:12 PM ET Sep 6, 2008
John McCain was not her dream pick. Only a year ago, when the Republican primaries were just beginning, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin told NEWSWEEK that she wasn’t enthusiastic about anyone in the GOP field. McCain was languishing at 7 percent in the polls. Mike Huckabee was reduced to playing his electric bass to get attention. Palin, driving with a NEWSWEEK reporter along the highway from Anchorage to Wasilla, said she could understand why the country was enthralled by the race between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. “When you talk about the Republican Party needing appealing candidates, darn right they do!” she said. “The Democrats, whether you like them or not … there is some dynamic there, and it’s something that the Republicans I think have lacked for some time.”
Palin had a lot on her mind in summer, with the kids out of school and a state to run, and didn’t think she’d have time to focus on the race for a while. “I’m not overly excited yet,” she said. “I will probably do what every American does and that’s really get plugged in, tuned in to what’s going on, when the field is set and that means there will be someone who stands out.”
When the GOP held its Alaska caucus on Feb. 5, Palin didn’t bother to endorse a candidate, despite personal appeals from Huckabee and Mitt Romney, her fellow social conservatives. She had never met or spoken to John McCain. But she indignantly dismissed his opposition to drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge as the politically correct—yet wrong—position of “Eastern politicians.” Palin finally got the chance to meet McCain at a gathering of Republican governors in Washington, D.C., in mid-February. Weeks later, even after the other Republican contenders had dropped out of the race, Palin still had not endorsed McCain. Preparing to go onstage March 3 in Los Angeles, at NEWSWEEK’s Women’s Leadership Forum, Palin was eager to quiz another governor, Janet Napolitano of Arizona, on her impressions of her state’s senior senator. Palin said she still had “a lot of questions” to get answered about her party’s presumptive nominee before she could back him.
Palin presumably got any lingering questions answered during her secret meeting with McCain at his Sedona ranch, the day he offered her the job as running mate. And McCain, in turn, got at least some of his questions answered, too. He learned days or weeks earlier that Palin’s 17-year old daughter was five months pregnant, and that the governor’s husband was arrested when he was 22 for drunken driving.
In the wake of her nomination, so many dirt-diggers were clamoring to get into the city hall of Wasilla, Palin’s hometown, that the mayor, Dianne Keller, started a number system for out-of-towners to take turns. She also decreed that long-distance calls would not be returned (understandable, given that reporters from Japan, the BBC and Al-Jazeera were on her doorstep). “We are a small city with a small staff, and our residents and business community expect us to fill their needs as well as the needs of the media,” said Keller.

Kitty, you can’t be so naive, can you?
Sept. 10, 2008 can be, and frequently is in lots of places, written in day/month/year format, or 10/09/08. In fact, that is a European standard notation, as is commonplace in many other locations, particularly when conducting international business. Not meaning to be derogatory, but arguing such a silly point simply makes you sound a bit petty and does nothing to support your position.

it was wrong for biden to add that in his speech. he hurt the family of the man he lied about. i don’t really care if you have made up your mind about the speech (whatever that means). you are full of facts. biden knowingly chose to hurt this man’s family. for whatever reason. i didn’t go looking to find out biden is a slime ball. ive voted for him everytime he’s been up for election that i’ve voted. never again.

that man who biden slandered had a daughter. whether or not biden’s law have helped anyone is up for debate, but there is no doubt HE HURT A WOMAN. and he offers no apology.

WOULD I BE RIGHT TO SUPPOSED THAT NOW I HAVE TO BRING YOU EVERY LAWSUIT, OR COURT RECORD WHERE THE LEGISLATURES HAVE BEEN USED TO SEND PEOPLE WHO COMMIT CRIMES AGAINST WOMEN TO JAIL, IN ORDER TO WIN THAT DEBATE?

gigi, it is a heartbraking story for everyone involved. and biden was wrong to slander the man who was not at fault. THERE’S A FACT FOR YOU TO ADD TO YOUR FACT FILE. goodnight gigi. it was fun.

ACTUAL QUOTE FROM SENATOR BIDEN’S POST 9/11 SPEECH, WHERE HE REFERS TO THE PAIN THE VICTIM’S FAMILIES ARE FEELING: “It was an errant driver who stopped to drink instead of drive and hit a tractor-trailer”
KITT’S COMMENT:
“he lies about his wife being killed by a drunk driver”
I COULD SAY THAT THOSE WERE NOT HIS WORDS… I’M ACTUALLY INTRIGUED AT HIS CHOICE OF STRUCTURE FOR THAT MESSAGE BUT IT IS IRRELEVANT.
SHOULD SENATOR BIDEN’S WORK ON US CONGRESS BE WASHED AWAY FOR THIS COMMENT? SHOULD WE VOTE FOR HIM OR AGAINST HIM FOR MAKING THIS COMMENT?
EACH INDIVIDUAL HAS TO MAKE THAT CHOICE. LOOK AT THE ISSUES AT HAND (LIKE I HAVE SAID BEFORE) AND COMPROMISE ONE THING OR THE OTHER.
LOSING A LOVE ONE IS HARD, IT MIGHT IMPAIR OUR JUDGEMENT… WE SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO HAVE CLOSURE, WE COULD FIND OUT IF PAMELA (THE DRIVER’S DAUGHTER) FOUND CLOSURE WITH THE NOTE SHE RECEIVED FROM SENATOR BIDEN.
SO MANY ACCIDENTS, I DON’T KNOW IF THESE SHOULD PLAY A ROLE IN OUR POLITICS… LAURA BUSH’S FATAL ACCIDENT, CAROL MCCAINS… I’VE HEARD THEM ALL ON THIS CAMPAIGN! AND I HAVE DISMISSED THEM… I WONDER IF I SHOULD DISMISS THIS ONE TOO?

ok i’ll play your game. you don’t have to read the entire speech to see the slander becasue it stands alone.

YOU HAVE ORDERED ME TO DO THIS AND THAT AND I’M DOING IT…
THEN YOU TELL ME TO HURRY UP, THEN YOU TELL ME TO SLOW DOWN…

WELL ALL IN ALL, I’M ACTUALLY GLAD I READ ABOUT IT! YOU LEARN SOMETHING EVERY DAY! (if you read)

“biden was wrong to slander the man who was not at fault. THERE’S A FACT”
BY DEFINITION, THIS IS NOT A FACT. THE WORDS “WRONG” AND EVEN “SLANDER” CONVERT IT INTO AN OPINION.
HOWEVER, THE FOLLOWING IS A FACT, AND I WILL INCLUDE IT IN MY LIST. THANKS!:
IN A 2001 POST 9/11 SPEECH, JOE BIDEN SAID THE FOLLOWING ABOUT HIS WIFE’S DEATH:
“It was an errant driver who stopped to drink instead of drive and hit a tractor-trailer”
JOE BIDEN RAN FOR OFFICE IN 1998 AND IN 2008. JOE BIDEN WAS NOT RUNNING FOR OFFICE IN 2000 (PRE 9/11) OR 2004 (POST 9/11)
I DON’T WANT TO INCLUDE BIDEN’S NOTE TO PAM, I FIND IT IRRELEVANT.
THANKS… ITS LATE!

It is a hard one to wrap your head around.. obviously the indication of the driver being intoxicated got into his head somehow, but since none of us were there, we will probably never really know for sure. We also don’t know when he found out that the driver was not intoxicated, if that is indeed the impression he was under. His writings claim he never pursued the matter further, which I can understand given the grave nature of his loss and the mental state he must have been in. It appears that none of this was really revealed until around the time of his nomination, as all the articles are dated 2007 or later, when people started really digging into his background trying to find dirt to use against him. Either way, given the missing pieces of this story, I don’t think I would go as far as to claim “he’s also a liar in the most hoorfic way” as Kitty put it. Now that it has been put into the spotlight, it will be interesting to see just what Biden does say regarding the issue, so I think I’ll reserve judgement on this one until then.

BUT YOU KNOW, JUST LIKE I HAD TO TAKE THE TIME TO RESEARCH AND COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT ONCE AGAIN WORDS WERE DISTORTED AND OPINIONS WERE GIVEN AS FACTS… SHE AND ALL OTHER REPUBLICANS SHOULD ASK THEMSEVES
“HEY! WHY ARE ALL THESE WORLD LEADERS AND FAMOUS PHILANTROPERS COMING TO AMERICA ALL OF A SUDDEN?”
THEY DON’T KNOW WHY! THEY DON’T BOTHER TO WONDER WHY!
THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE MILLENIUM GLOBAL PLAN IS, OR WHERE IT CAME FROM! OR WHAT ARE OUR RESPONSIBILITIES!! ALL THEY KNOW IS MCCAIN TOLD THEM OBAMA WANTS TO END WORLD HUNGER BY GIVING AWAY BILLIONS OF DOLLARS… BUT HE THEN HAS THE NERVE TO USE THE VERY PROGRAM TO ‘FREE LOAD’ AND BRING IN HIS BARELY KNOWN ALASKAN PARTNER AND GET HER SOME OVERDUE EXPOSURE… ON WHO’SE DIME? The most pertinent question might be one that actually addresses the cause and effect relationship of terrorism, as it is the basis upon which all terror networks operate. Contrary to popular belief (and myth) it is not to destroy freedom — that’s another lie cooked up by the Bush Administration. The reason terror exists is the reason why any political or social force is organized, to seek self-determination. The question therefore, should be: With the ongoing challenges on the war on terror, what steps, if any, would you take to understanding the mistakes of U.S. foreign policy and reverse the course in which a world, once teeming with admirers has become one supplanted with enemies.

—————-
Russian President Vladimir Putin was on the phone to George W. Bush — the first international leader to call the U.S. president on September 11.
Putin said:
“Russia knows directly what terrorism means. And because of this we, more than anyone, understand the feelings of the American people. In the name of Russia, I want to say to the American people — we are with you.”

AND WHILE SARA PALIN FINISHES HER TOUR OF EPCOT CENTERS PARADE OF NATIONS IN FLORIDA, WHERE SHE HAS GAINED MORE FOREIGN AFFAIRS EXPERIENCE TO GO WITH HER BACKYARD THEORY OF NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOR RUSSIA,… THIS HAPPENED:
Echo of the Cold War as Russia anchors in Caribbean
By Vladimir Isachenkov
RUSSIAN warships set sail yesterday for manoeuvres in the Caribbean, in a deployment of military power to the western hemisphere unprecedented since the Cold War.
The exercise, drawing on a strong alliance with Venezuela’s anti-American president, Hugo Chavez, will be closely watched by western navies and is calculated to demonstrate to the United States Moscow’s return as a global power on the military and poADVERTISEMENTlitical stage.
Igor Dygalo, a spokesman for the Russian navy, said that the nuclear-powered heavy missile cruiser Peter the Great and antisubmarine destroyer Admiral Chabanenko left their base near Murmansk with two support ships for the 15,000-mile passage to Venezuela.
The Kremlin has moved to intensify contacts with Venezuela, Cuba and other Latin American nations, amid increasingly strained relations with Washington after last month’s war between Russia and Georgia.
Mr Dygalo refused to comment on reports claiming that the ships were to make a stopover in the Syrian port of Tartus on their way to Venezuela. Russian officials said the Soviet-era base there was being renovated to serve as a foothold for a permanent Russian navy presence in the Mediterranean.
The deployment follows a weeklong visit to Venezuela by a pair of Russian strategic bombers and comes as Mr Chavez – an unbridled critic of US foreign policy who has close ties with Moscow – plans to visit Moscow this week.
It will be his second trip to Russia in about two months.
The intensifying contacts with Venezuela appear to be a response to the US dispatch of warships to deliver aid to Georgia, which angered the Kremlin. An independent military analyst, Alexander Golts, said: “It’s a show of the Kremlin’s irritation about the US deployment to Georgia.”
He added: “It’s a signal to the United States: you have broken into our zone of influence, and we will show you that we can enter yours.”
BACKGROUND
RUSSIA’S cultivation of the leftist Hugo Chavez and renewed interest in Cuba bear unmistakable echoes of the Cold War, when two superpowers vied for influence.
At that time, Latin America became an ideological battleground between the Soviet Union and the United States, reaching a climax with the Cuban missile crisis in 1962 in which the two superpowers went to the brink of nuclear war.
In the years after the fall of the Soviet Union, Russia’s once-proud armed forces, deprived of funding, declined rapidly. Ships lacked fuel to put to sea, warplanes were grounded, troops neglected.
Eventually, with the revival of the national economy and soaring oil revenues, the Kremlin leaders poured money into the armed forces, as a symbol of revived national prowess, though western analysts say their fleet is still in great need of modernisation
BUT WE DON’T NEED TO WORRY, BECAUSE OUR VICE-PRESIDENT CANDIDATE CAN HEAR THEM WHEN THEY ARE SLEEPING.

IF OUR COUNTRY IS GOING TO BE TRILLIONS WEAKER, OUR GOVERNMENT HEADED BY THE OLDEST PRESIDENT IN HISTORY WITH SOMETHTING GROWING OUT OF THE SIDE OF HIS FACE AND OUR VICE-PRESIDENT IS AN UNDER-EDUCATED WOMAN FROM A STATE THAT HAS ONLY BEEN A PART OF THE UNION FOR FIFTY YEARS…
I WOULD NOT MAKE ANY SUCH THREATS, I WOULD LEAN ON OUR ALLIES…DO WE HAVE ANY ALLIES LEFT?

By selecting Sarah Palin to be the republican party’s nominee for vice-president, you’ve really told the American people that the manager of the largest restaurant in their small town, regardless of the quality of the food or the service, or what they have actually done in managing the restaurant, is qualified to be President of the United States. Chavez is a wanna-be and his only real power is that he is sitting on some oil. He is a distraction. Russia, since the fall of the Soviet Union and their near demise has finally raised themselves out of the rubble of the past. They have no intention of going back to where they were now that they have tasted a promising future, and simply want to try and regain a more prominent role in the world. The key now is diplomacy and dialog. Did anyone watch the CNN show the other night that had the last 5 secretary of states on and the advice they gave whoever becomes the next president? To me, it seemed as a thinly veiled nod to the policies that Obama have been advocating, and a condemnation of the current administrations and McCains similar stance. Has anyone bothered reading the RAND report on terrorism, and their historical analysis on how and why terrorist organizations were eventually removed? Again, it bears a striking similarity to the position that Obama has, and a very stark contrast to the Current administration and McCains stance.

And finally, if someone tells you McCain is a third term Bush and that BO is “Mr. liberal” please pass on this info:
“Obama often says that McCain voted 90% of the time with Bush. What he doesn’t say is that Obama himself voted 88% of the time with Bush and even voted for the Cheney energy plan. Hillary didn’t and neither did McCain.
What they don’t tell you is that McCain voted 97% of the time with the Democrats and that he has the worst conservative voting record of any Republican. He voted liberal 20% of the time.
(A little tip when you hear Obama lying about McCain’s voting record: most votes in the Senate are unanimous consent.)” http://www.redhotandbluepolitics.com

– What they don’t tell you is that McCain voted 97% of the time with the Democrats and that he has the worst conservative voting record of any Republican. He voted liberal 20% of the time. –
Interesting numbers from a source whose leading story title is “Left-wingnuts Continue To Poop On Palin”.. unfortunately, they seem to leave out where they pulled them numbers from.
However, According the the congressional vote database, “John McCain has voted with a majority of his Republican colleagues 88.3% of the time during the current Congress. This percentage does not include votes in which McCain did not vote”. And, interestingly, he has missed more votes than any other Senator, more than 64% of them.
http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/members/m000303/
– What he doesn’t say is that Obama himself voted 88% of the time with Bush and even voted for the Cheney energy plan. –
Interesting how you switch the context from voting with a ‘party’ to voting with ‘Bush’, however, since Bush doesn’t have a vote on congressional bills, I can only compare apples to apples. In that regard, if the implied message is that Obama voted for Republican supported bills 88% of the time (and therefore against his own partys position), again I must point to the congressional vote database, where Obama is an even more staunch party line voter, having voted some 96% of the time with the majority of his Democratic colleagues. As for the “Cheney” energy plan? I can only assume that you mean the 2005 Presidential Energy Plan which was written by Cheney and later had the presidential seal slapped on it. I guess the author of the article saying that anybody, let alone Obama or McCain voted on it, fails to realize that there was no vote.. it’s simply a report, prepared by the executive branch outlining current and future directions the office wants to go.

So the CNN survery says that Americans blame the Republicans by 2:1 for the financial crisis? But I’m certain that, if they knew the facts, citizens would blame the MSM by 10:1 for their ignorance.
Consider the following:
RE: Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005
“The Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight’s report goes on to say that Fannie Mae employees deliberately and intentionally manipulated financial reports to hit earnings targets in order to trigger bonuses for senior executives. In the case of Franklin Raines, Fannie Mae’s former chief executive officer, OFHEO’s report shows that over half of Mr. Raines’ compensation for the 6 years through 2003 was directly tied to meeting earnings targets. The report of financial misconduct at Fannie Mae echoes the deeply troubling $5 billion profit restatement at Freddie Mac.”
“I join as a cosponsor of the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005, S. 190, to underscore my support for quick passage of GSE regulatory reform legislation. If Congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system, and the economy as a whole.”
—Sen. John McCain (AZ)–May, 2006
NOTE: Congress killed this bill. Raines has rendered “economic advice” to the Obama campaign. Now go figure.

This economic crisis puts the leadership qualities of both Sen. McCain and Sen. Obama on full display for all the world to see.
John McCain made a decision to do his job. After all, like Obama, he is a sitting U.S. Senator. McCain announced that he’s suspending his campaign, heading to Washington and doing everything he can to help get this economic calamity fixed.
Sen. Obama wants to put on the make-up and and smile pretty for the TV cameras in Oxford, Mississippi, site of tomorrow night’s scheduled debate.
What a dramatic difference between these two men. John McCain is a natural leader, Barack Obama is a wanna-be.
Obama isn’t even exactly sure when the next president’s duties begin. Last night, he referenced the fact that the next commander-in-chief will be “making decisions” in “about 40 days.”
Someone needs to get him a copy of the Constitution. News flash, Sen. Obama: the next president doesn’t go to work until January.
But in any event, it is gratifying to see John McCain shine like this. God forbid he backs down and winds up at the debate Friday night. That would be a disaster.
Let Obama continue to play politics, fiddling while Wall Street burns. The American people are getting a rare look at the stark contrast between these two men.
Bravo, Sen. McCain. You have trumped your opponent simply by insisting on putting America first and doing the job you were elected to do.
That’s what a leader does.
From his radical stance on abortion to his prominence in the corruption scandals that has been virtually ignored by the mainstream media, Barack Obama is not fit to be Senator — not to mention the next President of the United States.
Posted by: ridgerunner | September 25, 2008, 5:50 am 5:50 am
i can’t believe McCain is using this crisis to his own gain.
He’s pulling out because he has to either fire his campaign manager for having ties to Freddie Mac, or RETIRE his entire candidancy BECAUSE HE KNEW ABOUT THESE TIES TO FREDDIE MAC.
Oh How soon we forget.

I would very much like to ask each candidate a domestic economy question.
Senator McCain, “what is price of a gallon of milk in your constituents’ market?”
Senator Obama, “what is the price of a loaf of bread in your constituents’ market?”
It would be interesting to see if either of them is connected to mainstream Americans, well enough to answer questions so simple.

I’d like to see some of the major news media investigate the source of those multi-millions the Obama campaign claim they harvested off the Internet.
I’ll bet if he truly got somewhere north of $200M that way, a big portion of it was provided from offshore sources — more specifically Muslims.
Personally, I don’t want foreigners voting in my election, with money OR ballots, and especially not the very people who’re blowing up GIs.

And another thing: I see that private school in Hawaii that both Obama and his half sister attended lists current tuition as $16,650+ various incidentals. Call it maybe $18,000, total?
Must’ve been an awful burden for those white grandparents.
You’d think there would have been some gratitude expressed by the candidate.
No way.
Back in the closet, Granny, you too white! You spoil my pan-Afro image!
(Of course, as I read it, Obama’s Muslim forebears were Arab slavers…)
