Obama On “The Old Boy Network”

Tough words from Barack Obama — moments ago in Elko, NV: "This is someone who’s been in Congress for twenty-six years – -who put seven of the most powerful Washington lobbyists in charge of his campaign – and now he tells us that he’s the one who will take on the old boy network. The old boy network? In the McCain campaign, that’s called a staff meeting."

Perfect Line…I Love it!

It was the “old boy network” of the Democratic Party that “selected” Obama!!

I watch the clip on television. I couldn’t stop laughing.
Obama keeps this up it’s straight to the WHITE HOUSE.

GREAT LINE!!!! And very true…was wondering when they’d get around to calling McCain out on it!
When you’ve got Phil Gramm…the one responsible for deregulation as McCain’s main economic advisor…
When you’ve got McCain claiming he is a “DEREGULATOR”
When you’ve got the McCain campaign sticking their noses in a state probe to investigate Palin’s corruptions, hoping to intimidate AK into ending the investigatiion…
…makes you wonder what exactly McCain is going to reform when he gets to Washington….HIMSELF?

Good job, Obama!

That’s great! He’ll have to use that one a lot more too. Obama has come out swinging and is going to expose the duplicity and cynicism that is the McCain campaign. It’s about time.

What would you call Biden? Barry is part of the old boy network in Illinois.

Posted by: Mack | September 17, 2008, 3:36 pm 3:36 pm

Is Obama talking about John McCain or his new sidekick Joe Biden? Hasn’t Biden been in Washington longer than McCain? Isn’t it Joe Biden’s own family that works in the lobbying industry? Aren’t members of Obama’s economic team the same people who ran Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac into the ground? Why do you and other members of the media consistently print the “tough words” from Obama in total but choose to edit as you choose to edit other comments that might reflect negatively on your newfound “savior.” Specific example: Why were the comments yesterday by the former HP CEO described as saying that McCain and Palin could not run a company, when in fact, she said that NONE of the four candidates (including Obama and Biden) were capable in her mind?

“Who exactly is McCain going to reform when he gets to Washington…HIMSELF?”
What reforming did Barry do in Chicago?

The ultimate insider berating the ultimate insider based on how long he’s been inside.
At least John McCain has stood up to his own party and Washington in general….on multiple occasions.
Obama never will. As the newest member of the club…Obama believes his own press.

bkm – So you admit, McCain IS apart of the old boys network. As well, Biden isn’t the #1 on the ticket… Unless you want to compare McCain with Biden, in this case i’ll choose Biden ANY DAY (Biden isn’t going to bring me and my family four more years of BUSH!!!)

That’s the best line I’ve heard in this entire election.

Both parties are cesspools. The republicans are a little worse than the dems, but both suck. Follow Ron Paul’s lead and go third party. Ron Paul was right about this financial crash, he probably is right about 3rd parties.

Flip-flop, diddy-bop McCain. Rails against corporate theives and huge CEO ripoffs, and then employs Carly Fiorina as one of his most trusted advisors. The same Carly Fiorina who got a $45 Million buyout from Hewlett Packard. McCain = HYPOCRITE

Talk about old boy network, Obama’s democrats controlled the congress and senate for two years. Two years. Suddenly Obama and the democrats complain about the economy? The democrats never heard of the energy crisis? People having to choose between food and medicine or driving to work? Never heard of regular folks not buying because energy costs sucked them dry? Where was Obama in the senate getting his democratic majority to help us regular folks until yesterday? Oh, right, he was too busy running for president. Now Obama won’t even answer whether or not he would have bailed out AIG. Not yesterday and not today. What a coward. He can’t make a decision even after the fact.

Obama the CEO
When Obama was running (unsuccessfully) for Congress after just one term in the Illinois State Senate, he touted his experience with CAC as a qualification for high office. I’ve chaired major philanthropic efforts in the city like the Chicago Annenberg Challenge,” that gave fifty million dollars to prompt school reform efforts throughout the city. The Chicago Annenberg Challenge fiasco was a colossal flop, wasting $150 million taxpayer dollars. The entire project later sold to city for $10.00. Thank Obama.

As a matter of fact, I haven’t had any disposable income for about 8 years now! It’s time for a change! Let the middle class have some money to spend and see what America looks like in a couple of years!

The BEST reform that McSame can and should offer is the one to “reform” himself by quitting. Tell me, if someone who has been there for 26 years, voted with the status quo for over 95% of the last eight years, which has seen the economy tanking, losses in jobs, homes and livelihood, how likely is it that he can and will be able to reform anything??? Now, in the last days, both McSame and McPalin have been touting “regulation” in one sentence and “deregulation” in the next sentence, AND ALL DURING THE SAME SPEECH!!! Do these jokers realize they do not have an iota of understanding of what they are talking about? Expect reform or assistance from them? Might as well aak the woodchuck nibbling on the grass in my backyard. It would be really hilarious if it is not so tragic!!

Obama represents the worst in DC politics — big money, favors, influence peddling. I hope the DNC and other socialists realize the opportunity they’ve squandered some day. But, based on past history, probably not!

Posted by: dl | September 17, 2008, 4:58 pm 4:58 pm

I guess HP though Carly couldn’t run a company either – so they fired her!
But she got her golden parachute – just like the old boys at Leman Bro’s, AIG, and Freddie and Fannie will (because they’ll sue to get it)
HarleyDavidson – my man-
democrats have been in control for two years with a GOP President who has over-riden many pieces of legislatur that has been presented. So who can you blame? The buck stops here – at the top.
The rich get richer – the rest get screwed. What about the consumer spending? After years of the rich corporations telling us to get credit, to use credit to buy it now, and getting most of middle class in hock – suddenly when middle class tightens up their belts and stop spending what they don’t have – wall street come tumbling down -
Greedy businesses wanting to profit off selling homes to be people who couldn’t afford them – both are at fault – but mainly I blame the businesses for making it sound so good – you get what you deserve (Nothing)
And what is with the GOP trying to stop people who have been foreclosed from voting – losing your house doesn’t mean you can’t vote – that is just another example of what the GOP will do to win this election (especially since they can’t steal this one)

The Republicans controlled Congress for most of the last 12 years and the White House for the last seven. The Democrates control the House, but are virtually even in the Senate….so, how can anyone say it was the Dems that caused the meltdown. It’s been McCain and company all along.
Go Obama…it’s time for a change.

“The pot calling the kettle black”… old Jamaican saying. This idiot can only talk in terms of how people “run their campaigns” because that’s the ONLY accomplishment this fool has ever completed. His other lies of “initiating the stimulus rebate program” when he didn’t even vote on it is laughable! I guess that was perhaps a “present” vote, the same way he would “mail in his decisions” if if ever had the fortune to be elected. LOL!!

McCain has done a 180 from the time he could declare himself a Maverick, now he agrees with everything Bush says and does, he done a 180 on everything he once opposed and now he’s crawled in bed with a bunch of lobbist. Some people will do anything to get elected and McCain had decided to let his integerty go for a chance at the white house.

Well, To all of you who still insist that Sen. McCain has what it takes. Please outline his plan for fixing what is broken. As of yet, he has not stated anything. Sen. Obama has at least given us his plan, which has been stated many times before this. You can find everything on Sen. Obama’s web site, Sen. McCain’s web site has nothing. Also, where is Sen. Give me a break…Mr. O.
If you really were going to change Washington, you would not have selected a guy for VP that has served longer than MccAin in the Senate…
so get real.
McCain was right on surge and was correct on Fannie Mae…what do you have to show?
John McCain. 25 May 2005, speaking to the Senate:
Mr. President, this week Fannie Mae’s regulator reported that the company’s quarterly reports of profit growth over the past few years were “illusions deliberately and systematically created” by the company’s senior management, which resulted in a $10.6 billion accounting scandal.
The Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight’s report goes on to say that Fannie Mae employees deliberately and intentionally manipulated financial reports to hit earnings targets in order to trigger bonuses for senior executives. In the case of Franklin Raines, Fannie Mae’s former chief executive officer, OFHEO’s report shows that over half of Mr. Raines’ compensation for the 6 years through 2003 was directly tied to meeting earnings targets. The report of financial misconduct at Fannie Mae echoes the deeply troubling $5 billion profit restatement at Freddie Mac.
The OFHEO report also states that Fannie Mae used its political power to lobby Congress in an effort to interfere with the regulator’s examination of the company’s accounting problems. This report comes some weeks after Freddie Mac paid a record $3.8 million fine in a settlement with the Federal Election Commission and restated lobbying disclosure reports from 2004 to 2005. These are entities that have demonstrated over and over again that they are deeply in need of reform.
For years I have been concerned about the regulatory structure that governs Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac–known as Government-sponsored entities or GSEs–and the sheer magnitude of these companies and the role they play in the housing market. OFHEO’s report this week does nothing to ease these concerns. In fact, the report does quite the contrary. OFHEO’s report solidifies my view that the GSEs need to be reformed without delay.
I join as a cosponsor of the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005, S. 190, to underscore my support for quick passage of GSE regulatory reform legislation. If Congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system, and the economy as a whole.
I urge my colleagues to support swift action on this GSE reform legislation.
The legislation was blocked by Democrats, with the assistance of a few Republicans.
