Is Palin A Step Forward or Back for Women? Biden vs RNC

Sep 9, 2008 5:07pm

ABC’s Matt Jaffe reports on the latest skirmish: The RNC is jumping all over comments that Sen. Biden made Monday in Green Bay in an interview with NBC’s Milwaukee affiliate TMJ4. Here’s the exchange:

Reporter – "Do you think that if she does win that that would be a step forward for women?"

Biden – "Well, look, I think the issue is what does Sarah Palin think, what does she believe. I assume she thinks and agrees with the same policies that George, that, George Bush and John McCain think. And that’s obviously a backward step for women."

Watch it on youtube here.

"The only person taking a step backward is Joe Biden, whose appalling and arrogant statements are better suited for the back rooms of his old boys club," said RNC spokeswoman Amber Wilkinson in a statement. "Sarah Palin’s nomination as the Republican vice presidential nominee is an historic opportunity to break the highest glass ceiling.  While John McCain and Sarah Palin continue to press their message of change, Joe Biden should stop these sorts of old-style attacks."
