Palin & The World’s Leaders — How’s it Going?
ABC’s Kate Snow from NY: I’ve been trying to get some more independent information about how Governor Sarah Palin’s meetings with world leaders are going. Not as easy as it sounds. Those rooms are small and people have been told not to talk.
The campaign briefed us yesterday and said things are going swimmingly. Of her first three meetings on Tuesday with Afghanistan’s President Hamid Karzai, Colombia’s President Alvaro Uribe and former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, McCain-Palin foreign policy advisor Steven Biegun said: "I think she liked them very much. Governor Palin established a great personal rapport." Biegun said the meetings covered everything from national security to energy policy and trade.
A spokesman for Karzai backed that up. Humayun Hamidzada said the 30 minute session between Palin and Karzai was more of an "introductory meeting, a courtesy call." Palin was asking questions, he said. Exactly what questions he couldn’t recall. But he did say "She was asking all the right questions". "The President (Karzai) believes she understands the issues very well," Hamidzada said.
A spokesman for President Alvaro Uribe of Colombia was a bit less helpful. After several phone calls and two emails, he pointed this reporter to a website: http://web.presidencia.gov.co/sp/2008/septiembre/23/05232008.html. There you’ll learn that the Colombian President found his meeting with Palin to be "constructive". The meeting is framed as part of a push by the Colombian government to work with both American political parties to pass a free trade agreement between Colombia and the US, which McCain and Palin support.

I don’t know if you meant it this way, but wouldn’t be surprised if you did, but your headline of “Palin and the World’s Leaders – How’s it Going” seemed to imply that was the way Palin was greeting these people. As I said, it wouldn’t surprise me if this were a well-thought way to diminish her efforts and make her appear shallow and simple-minded.

NOW she is qualified on all matters of foreign affairs. She exchanged ‘hello’ and ‘my kids are named’, and that is sufficient to the guns babies and bibles crowd.

JR…it is shameful the way you and others talk about Governor Palin without knowing her personally or having any interaction with her as a professional. Oh, and by the way, she just happens to have been elected to serve as one of only 50 state governors in the U.S. That’s a pretty responsible job for a person who you describe as having “simple-minded and shallow” covered. Oh, and what important job do you hold that bears a similar level of responsibility? Keep in mind that “unemployed, stay-at-home blogger” is not a job.

Thousand dollars of tax-payers’heard earned money go to this great rapport! What’s a shamed ! That’s not including a round trip airfair just to have a hand shake with Nicolas Sarkozy…Presumably, the libs believe that will qualify their candidate an expert in forreign affair. It is insane. Forget the foreign affair experience issue. The candidate needs to have enough knowledge to idenfify the 50 states of US first.

Why are world leaders more important to address than the voters? If Palin is the qualified VP Candidate she claims to be start acting like and address the voters. Same to the campaign — if Palin is a qualified candidate — she should act like it — treat her like the candidate you claim she is and not a flower you are in fear will wilt as suggested on CNN.

ON PALIN’S MEETING AT THE UN
We have so much to memorialize from Palin’s UN début. Palin for sure might not have missed the opportunity of her meeting with Hamid Karzir to pitch for MOOSE BREEDING IN THE SHRUBS OF AFGHANISTAN! This might be the very essence of her foreign policy—a way to woo the world and restore good reputation for America abroad! Did Dude Palin seat in as well, given his habit of doing so in high profile and other important political meetings? If he did, he surely would not have missed the once in a life time opportunity to present a foreign leader with a fishing rod. Now that Palin’s UN meetings are coming to an end—like a night-gone dream—we await expectantly for McCain’s hastily-cobbled campaign ads announcing Palin’s sumptuous experience with world leaders. It is almost like getting an honorary degree without the equivalent knowledge. Mission accomplished: Palin now has the much sought after (AND NEEDED) “foreign policy experience.” How can anyone, especially Democrats ever have anything more to say about that. Case closed, indeed! Palin is ready to take the world–including the Putin monster–and he is best suited to do the job, being so close to the Russian border. Note, of course, that many other heads of state (except the Bush stooges) have said no thanks to being used as a prop for the McCain campaign whose desperation and use of gimmicks increase exponentially by the hour.

She hugged Kissinger, big deal. Cramming 4 hours of a meet-and-greet at the UN seems like the high school kid trying to fluff up the application to the big college. No matter–her experience isnt a issue because McCain picked her to quiet the critical conservative base who hates him. She mollifies them—Palin is the juicy red steak you throw to the guard dogs while you try to break into the White House.

Palin is governor of a state with 640,000 people. The least populated state in the country, where the many people are deeply suspicious of the “lower 48.” Rural. No hard budget issues. The town she where she was mayor has under 10,000 people. Meth capital of Alaska, and women pay for their own rape exams. She didn’t have a passport until last year. Remind me again how she is qualified to be VP, or President should the need arise? And being next door to Russia doesn’t count if you’ve never been there.

What hogwash. The media aren’t allowed to watch her because if they saw how embarrassing her inexperience makes her look, the election would be fundamentally over. She is NOT qualified for the job, and everybody knows that. Not that it matters, Obama’s got this election in the bag.
Posted by: Scott | September 24, 2008, 1:09 pm 1:09 pm
BKM – The left HAS to insult Palin on a daily basis. That is how they think. They certainly can’t debate on real issues, instead they use 6th grade tactics. Reminds me of a pre-teen group that didn’t like the new girl and insulted everything about her instead of actually getting to know her. The mentality is about the same with Obama supporters. They certainly don’t want you to bring up terrorist William Ayers, Father Pflager or Rev. Wright. They also don’t want to bring up Frank Marshall Davis, the communist. Not to mention that Obama’s ties to Ayers’ wasn’t just “a friend”. Seems there was a lot more going on with the CAC and the Woods Fund of Chicago. So, let’s stick to the shallow remarks, it’ll just get Sarah Palin more votes for the election. Does ANYONE know what Obama did at Columbia, no one seems to remember him there?

They never allow her to meet the press, answer questions from ordinary Americans or any of the other things that let people decide if she’s shallow or not. ***************************************** What is shameful is that we have not been allowed to get to know ‘her highness’ personally, nor have the press been allowed to have any professional interaction with ‘her highness’. It is also shameful that Sarah Palin seems to believe she is some kind of a Deity who owes nothing to the American People and thinks that we are dumb enough to turn the keys to the kingdom over to her because she has told us, after the one question a supporter was allowed to ask ‘her highness’, that we can trust her because she has “that readiness, that confidence, that she believes she is prepared to lead this country.”

Obama has NO foreign policy experience. Obama has to have a teleprompter to help him remember what he wants to say. Obama couldn’t make up his mind during his state senate career by voting “present” over a 100 times. Obama has NEVER owned his own business. Obama has NEVER made a budget. In fact, Obama has NEVER governed a darn thing! But Obama HAS worked for ACORN, charged with voter fraud. Obama got his wife Michelle a 320% raise at her job. They send their children to private schools for $20,000 a year. Obama, best friends with Father Pflager and Rev. Wright who preaches racism and hate. Obama never ONCE held a subcommittee meeting on Afgahnistan while chairperson. Obama’s childhood mentor, Frank Marshall Davis, was a communst. Obama was endorsed by the Democratic Socialists of America. Obama has ties to former CEO’s Fanny Mae. Hmm, a person with NO experience and sits in meetings or a person with REAL experience. Seems like a no-brainer to me. Don’t vote for the FRAUD (Barak Obama!)

Questions for Justright & BKM-
Can you both answer me (and this is ligit question from a Democrat searching for facts) if Palin is to be our veep, why does her campaign give the appearance of shielding her from interviews and questions? I mean as the second in command of our country I would like to know that she is there to answer the tough questions, to make executive decisions, who won’t fold under public scrutiny. I mean isn’t that what is to be expected when you enter into politics? Other than her background, her past, how is she going to help our country going forward? That is my main concern with her dodging the press. I don’t know, she shouldn’t be hidden from answering the tough questions. I mean she’s a heartbeat away from the presidency! If she can’t handle the press while campaigning, how is she going to handle a true crisis when/if one arrives for our country? Your thoughts please.

WHY ARE MY TAX DOLLARS BEING USED FOR PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES FOR SARAH PALIN, WHEN SHE BELIEVES SHE IS TOO GOOD TO EVEN SPEAK TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE?
Posted by: Truth Matters | September 24, 2008, 1:22 pm 1:22 pm
PALIN PLAYING THE PART
Surely by now the most observant voting Americans among us, have formed opinions concerning the McCain’s campaign extraordinary efforts to protect Sarah Palin from getting; shall we say, “Up close and personal with the press.”
One can only conclude Palin’s phenomenon to be no more than an ideological stand in, with a scripted speaking role as vice president for the obstinate and resolute conservative Republican Party.
Speaking as a thespian and spokes model, even I could have endured extensive coaching, memorized my questions and responses whilst maintaining poise with an alluring smile.
Like Palin, I would wear a skirt and have my legs crossed while making small talk with World leaders (who were perfectly aware of) what was obviously, a photo opportunity.
Change is definitely coming …Hopefully; it will not be wearing librarian designer glasses and a shade of illusory lipstick.

I think Palin is being vastly underestimated… by the McCain campaign. We the general public can only build on the information we’re provided. But, the McCain campaign knows her much better (I hope). So, this strong woman Governor who is clearly capable and multidimensional (you don’t raise 5 kids and run a state, even if it’s Alaska without talent)… she can’t meet the press? This absurd shielding is counterproductive to McCain, and I can’t understand why they would do derail an up-and-coming Republican woman by treating her so shallow? McCain and his advisers need to rethink how they’re mistreating women and Palin!

Well, maybe I’m being too hard on poor Baracuda Palin. She is a scrapper and when you set your ambitious eyes high, who knows where you will end up. I could learn something…if I smile enough, switch colleges several times and insists my private choices in life should be yours too…well, maybe one day I can end up as someone’s political puppet. God Bless America.

It’s sad to see the blatant attempt by the media and the liberals who love ABC News to discredit and undermine Governer Palin. They are so in the bag for Obama, a man who said he had visited 57 states, with 1 to go. A man who served a total of 147 days in the Illinois Senate, without one major accomplishment or change to point to during his “tenure” in one of the most corrupt counties in America (Cook County). And this man is suppose to be some kind of Messianic figure? Why? Because he looks sharp in a suit and has good oratory skills? The media and his supporters don’t seem to even want to know anything more than the superficial aspects of Obama’s experience, beliefs or principals, but all too eager to ridicule Governor Palin of whom they know equally little.

Why do you live in ignorance? How can conservatives live with themselves-aren’t conservatives supposed to represent Christ’s teachings? Conservatives are the farthest from the truth:
by the way:
Obama:
Occidental College – Two years.
Columbia University – B.A. political science with a specialization in international relations.
Harvard – Juris Doctor (J.D.) Magna Cum Laude
& Biden:
University of Delaware – B.A. in history and B.A. in political science.
Syracuse University College of Law – Juris Doctor (J.D.)
vs.
McCain:
United States Naval Academy – Class rank 894 out of 899 (meaning that, like George Bush, McCain was at the bottom of his class)
Palin:
Hawaii Pacific University – 1 semester
North Idaho College – 2 semesters – general study
University of Idaho – 2 semesters – journalism
Matanuska-Susitna College – 1 semester
University of Idaho – 3 semesters – B.A. in journalism
Now, which team are you going to hire to lead the most influential nation in the world?

The McCain camp and Sarah Palin seem too think that she will be able too say something substantive in the debate she will have with Joe Biden next week. She will say, “I met with the President [fill in the blank] last week in New York and so….” And the audience will chuckle. Joe Biden will respond by saying, “I’ve met with President [fill in the blank here] many times in their country and toured different sites and met the people of his/her country, discussed world affairs numerous times, so on, and so on…..?” The McCain camp has set this woman up for a total meltdown with these one day off the cuff photo-ops. She’s going too get marginalized pretty hard in the coming weeks, and pressed mighty damn hard by the media and the American people who are becoming resentful of her evasive demeanor. It’s laughable and ridiculously juvenile. McCain is going to lose this race handily and it will be because of Sararh Palin and her lack of indepth knowledge on world affairs, the economy and plain ole politics. She’s a novice on the ‘national’ stage and far from being able to stand in Hillary Clinton, Kaye Bailey Hutchinson or Elizabeth Dole shoes. Not even a close call.

Ivy – I noticed that YOU can’t mention a single policy point that Obama and you hold that are relevant. So, go ahead and insult Palin to make you feel better. I know that using emotions is the core concept of the left and not using the real facts. Go ahead. Make yourself feel better. I know you want socialism. You love it.

I don’t think there should be that much difference between the qualifications we seek in the President and Vice-President. After all, the Vice-President is only one bullet, heart-atack, or plane crash away from the top spot. And McCain IS 72, with all the attendant health concerns of his age.

The news media has no business complaining about their access to Palin’s meetings… The news media has obviously placed all their bets AGAINST Palin, and has spend weeks trying to smash her. Now, they want her to play nice and let them have whatever they want.. Sorry… Better luck, media, after she’s elected Vice President….

yup,
I have fired plenty of Ivy school grads … they come with a sense of elitist entilement. Whereas, a person with a sense of pride, hard work, determination, and humility dramatically outperforms.
I’ll take the person over the paper every single time.

===========================
“Shallow & simple-minded”?? Sorry, but Princess Stalin needs no help; she does an excellent job at doing it all on her own.

lol i guess you only concentrated on a small portion of bidens statements then because he eviscerated john mccain and his lack of foreign policy standings other then surge is working
lol
ps
saying obama is right and mccain is wrong obamas so called lack of experience is not true and he is far more experienced and correct than the old war hero
isnt a gaffe… its a slam against mccain

Scott, you don’t get my premise. The left uses pre-teen gimmicks to make their point. The can’t debate Palin on real issues but go below the belt. I have no insecurities. If you want to highlight complete lack of experience and incompetence, look no further than Obama. His name is in the dictionary! Having a rock group perform before his speech in Berlin will NOT change my mind! A 48 hour photo-op in Iraq does NOT equate experience in foreign policy.
When he does talk, it’s all liberal views on gov’t. which has NEVER worked in ANY country so far. So, you do the math.

Why is McCain shielding Palin from the media: He knows she will say something stupid and wreck his chance for the white house. And this will show the world that she is nothing more than a good looking librarian from Alaska.

All these spews of hatred toward Sarah Palin just shows the FEAR the left has of her. She’s everything they despise! An average mom who has worked her way up. Who understands how local gov’t works! (the left despises local control of gov’t.) Whose NOT an elitist snob. Who didn’t go to an Ivy league school. Knows what it’s like to go paycheck to paycheck. Who doesn’t believe in abortion birth control and goes to church (gasp!) Who doesn’t socialize in Washington! (oh, the scandal!) What’s worse, she’s like us! And, and, and, she’s a conservative!
The left must be taking twice the Rolaids as the election gets closer!

Why does the link say she gets a thumbs up? It’s more like a guarded-to-neutral response. “Constructive” in diplomatic terms is not remotely a rave. It means nothing was accomplished.
And these are “world leaders”? Was the Prince of Monacao unavailable? Or the President of the Seychelles?

“absolutely crystal clean politician with a history of reform”
HA! You don’t really believe that, do you? She is a proven liar on almost everything she or the McCain campaign has said about her from the moment you and I and everyone else first heard of her a few weeks ago. She lied about the bridge, she lied about earmarks, she lied about taking on Alaska, she lied about the Alaska pipelines, and she is in the middle of lying and obstructing the investigation of her abuse of power in troopergate. She has been called out on her lying by numerous reporters, and rather than revise her lies she has chosen to simply repeat them and ignore that they have been debunked. She and the McCain campaign obviously think you are stupid. Judging by the comments above by people like “justright”, they may be right.
If you believe she is “absolutely clean” I have a bridge to nowhere to sell you.

Yup: as a State Senator, Obama can’t give himself credit for ONE thing that has helped Cook County! WHAT has he done to help his constiuents? The crime rate is the highest! Poverty is high!High school dropouts are high! NONE of his sponsered bills have EVER been passed! NO ONE can remember him at Columbia. HIS former co-workers have stated that his accounts in a NY firm say he’s lying aobut his work there! I’m sorry, but having meetings and voting is hogwash. McCain HAS led and HAS served his country! Palin HAS governed, unlike Obama. You can have 10 degrees, but that doesn’t get YOU A REAL JOB!

yup,
With all due respect, book smarts do not equate to common sense and the ability to make smart decisions. it is what Obama and Biden stand for (when they are on the smae page) that scares people. We used to believe that socialism was wrong but many Omama kool-aid drinkers don;t seem to remember or care.

Response to your comment:
If you look back in history you will see a lot of “Socialist” projects. Did you know before Thomas Jefferson, public eduation was only afforded by the wealthy? He was the first president to believe that public education was right to be held by all Americans because it best preserved the new republican gov’t. A lot of presidents in the past have championed for national public standards to give everyone the best opportunity to live up to one’s potential. This doesn’t necessarily constitute socialism. Let me ask you this, have you read both McCain’s & Obama’s healthcare reform plans? Because when you speak of socialism i’m assuming you are refering to universal healthcare coverage. If not I can give you a side by side comparison. Did you know that McCain is proposing to tax people who already receive insurance through their company as income earned? He would be the first president in history to do this.

yeah … fresh and new ideas like:
1) existing politicians are not nearly corrupt or sleazy engough … let me show them an unprecidented level of sleaze
2) existing politicians only break their promises AFTER they get into office …. let me break them BEFORE the election even occurs
3) here is a fresh idea … let’s run a president with no FEDERAL government experience. … sorry but 143 days … less than 5 months in the Senate before declaring running for president is NO EXPERIENCE.
4) NOW this IS a fresh idea … let’s put someone who can deliver speeches off of a teleprompter that is articulate and attractive in front of the media masses and the uninformed … BINGO … got him this far

People are missing the point on these UN meetings. Gov. Palin is speaking to these foreign leaders for a lot more than the 23 seconds that the press pool is allowed to listen in. She spent ALL DAY YESTERDAY AND ALL DAY TODAY . . speaking, and getting Zardari was GUSHING OVER HER AND SAID HE UNDERSTOOD WHY AMERICA WAS SO IN LOVE WITH HER!!! It’s not about the angry liberal press getting the story. The McCain campaign is absolutely right to leave you all out of the meetings! She’ll say the sky is partly cloudy and you’ll have a weather guy say she’s wrong, it’s partly sunny and it’ll be broadcast as worse than when Biden asked a man in a wheel chair to stand up! She’s classy & the world loves her. Get used to it! She’s going to be the next VP!

WHERE ARE SARAH AND “THE 1ST DUDE’S” FINANCIAL DISCLOSER??????
Everyone else has disclosed theirs; what makes Sarah Palin so special?? Does she not want ALL to see all of the “gifts” she has been receiving from those BIG OIL companies up there in The Last Frontier???
I smell MORE scandal on the way…..

..palin-waste of tax payer money…just like the 700 billion bail-out…
she has begun dodging a serious ethics investigation for abuse of power. Senator Hollis French says under the circumstances, “she could face impeachment.” for sacking a State official for refusing to fire her ex-brother-in-law. More ruthless petty judgement was evident as Mayor of the small town Wasilla. She faced a recall threat after her first month in office for firing the Police Chief and Library Director. Her reason? Not supporting her 1996 race for Mayor. she has left a papertrail of emails, of partisan activity. We need someone to unite the country.

commom sense? As Mayor, she requested almost $750 million in special federal spending, the largest per-capita request in the nation, yet charged rape victims between $300 and $1200 for their own rape kits. this is a crime.

If McBush is similar to Bush, then we’re in trouble..
Former president Jimmy Carter called President Bush’s international relations “the worst in history”
US Nobel Laureate Slams Bush Gov’t as “Worst” in American History
-Helen Thomas: GWB Is Worst President in American history”He is the worst president in all of American history.” The woman who has known eight of them isn’t joking.
…then the logic should follow that MCBUSH is thee WORST PRESIDENTAL CANDIDATE IN MODERN HISTORY!

IS IT POSSIBLE IN THIS COUNTRY TO HAVE DIFFERENT POINTS OF VIEW OR BELIEFS WITHOUT COMPLETELY DISMISSING OR DENEGRATING THE OTHER SIDE. SEN. OBAMA IS AN ACCOMPLISHED MAN. SEN. MCCAIN IS LIKEWISE AN ACCOMPLISHED MAN. AS A MATTER OF FACT BOTH HAVE ACCOMPLISHED MORE THAN 99.99% OF THE PEOPLE CRITICIZING THEM IN THIS BLOG. KEEP THE DISCUSSION ON THE ISSUES. WHEN YOU ATTACK PEOPLE SO PERSONALLY ONLY SHOWS HOW WEAK YOUR ARGUMENT IS. AND REMEMBER THAT ALTHOUGH YOU FEEL STRONGLY ABOUT WHAT YOOU BELIEVE HAVE ENOUGH WISDOM TO RECOGNIZE THAT THE OTHERSIDE MAY HAVE SOME GOOD POINTS TOO.

“I find her an appealing person,” Clinton told CNN host Larry King.
The presidents of Iraq and Georgia gushed over Palin as they met with her yesterday. And Afghanistan’s President Hamid Karzai told an audience Tuesday night after meeting Palin earlier that day that she asked all the right questions.
Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari expressed great joy in meeting her during the short photo session at the start of their meeting that was viewed by reporters and cameras.

I finally realized where I had seen the phenomenon that seems to be affecting Palin. When I worked with a mission in South Texas years ago, new young missionaries would come through our mission for a crash course in spanish before being sent into Mexico. During their stay, they were exposed to nothing but spanish, sort of a sink-or-swim scenario. Invariably they would reach a phase where they couldn’t distinguish between english and spanish. It would pass but it was sort of a brain-overload. That’s what I’m hearing from Palin, a person who has been given so much info in such a short time that at the moment she can’t seperate her own thoughts from what she’s been told to think. That’s why you kind of get the idea of what she means but it’s not really clear. It will pass if she’s given enough time. I think that’s what Mccains stalling is all about. It remains to be seen though if she has the mental capacity to handle it. A little scary from my point of view.

Election ’08: The press spent so much time sniping at Sarah Palin for her visits with global leaders that in the end it babbled about itself. What it missed was news on John McCain’s foreign policy. Who are the real rubes?
outlets from AP to Newsday to even Fox News busied themselves hollering about access. They made themselves the story. Then they conjectured that these were “tutorials” and “burnishings of resumes” instead of messages to the world.
Obsessed with pink sofas and Alaska-shaped earrings, and on lookout for a mispronounced word, they complained that they got only a briefing, not a seat at the table.
How do we know this? Because there really was news out there about what was discussed in Palin’s meetings, like the one she had with Uribe. Details were reported in Colombian newspapers like El Tiempo, agencies like EFE and other Spanish-language press, where interest in what a President McCain means for a nation like Colombia is very real. Any American who wanted to know that was out of luck unless he could read Spanish.
Obama has yet to negotiate with a foreign government. Palin did so with Canada, our top energy supplier and largest trading partner, to create a 1,700-mile natural gas pipeline. Obama, in fact, discounted Canada’s importance in a campaign vow to break the 1994 trade ties forged in the North American Free Trade Agreement.
