Certainly more worthwhile to the WHOLE POPULATION OF THE UNITED STATES than spending hundreds of millions of dollars on “infrastructure” AKA “boondoggles” aka “earmarks” AKA “pork” in Alaska such as multiple “bridges to nowhere”, “roads to nowhere”, and million dollar sports complexes for small towns with a population hardly large enough to fill a high-school gymnasium in a rural town in the lower 48.

I guess the point is ithe hypocrisy, and irony of McCain no claiming that, despite overwhelming evidence to the ocntrary, Gov. Palin is a “reformer”, someone who has fought to reduce wasteful government spending.
It won’t make a bit of difference. The Republican base has fallen hard for this “Joan of Arc” from Wasilla, this “Marilyn Monroe”, packing heat, this “Little Red Riding Hood” who shoots defenseless wolves from overflying helicopters, and her daughter JUNO from JUNEAU.
They don’t care about substance, they ignore hypocrisy, disturbing FACTS do not trouble them.
They are hunkered in a mental bunker untroubled by the world of facts, evidence, and real threats that the rest of us live in.

Obama sought earmarks? I am shocked…just shocked!
Has HE ever claimed he didn’t? No, he did not. So, he is not a hypocrite.
Now which politician running in this fall’s presidential elections did claim she is against earmarks, that she said “thanks, but no thanks” and returned the money to the federal government?
Hmmm…
If I could just find out who that was then I would sure call that politician a liar and a hypocrite…out to deceive the American public about his/her real political agenda.

Don’t blame ABC or the media. The fact is that the McCain campaign is dishonest and the media is just doing its role. For McCain, what goes around comes around. Period. McCain is really out of touch. I saw him on the view, he said lies regarding Palin, a proof that he doesn’t know her at all. What a dream team.

If being interested in the truth is a liberal attribute, then I guess I’m liberal.
McCain/Palin bring this on themselves when they push their demonstrably false earmark talking points.
Maybe they should change the subject, if they have anything else CONSTRUCTIVE to talk about.

1. She tells naked lies about her political past.
2. She RAISED taxes on oil corporations. She returned the extra revenue directly to Alaskan citizens. Essentially, she raised the cost of oil, and at least by Republican economic logic, past the cost of that tax down to the rest of us in the lower 48. We paid that tax in higher fuel costs.
3. She is the QUEEN of pork, though she presents herself as a cost-cutter. Not when it comes to gobbling up a disproportionate slice of the federal pie for her precious Alaskan constituents.
4. She pretends to know or care about energy policy. She does not. She knows oil companies, and that’s all.
5. She pretends to have taken on oil companies. She has not, she is in their pocket fighting to get ANWR opened for drilling.
6. She pretends to know even the first thing about foreign policy, because she can “see Russia from Alaska”. Well, I can see the moon from my backyard, that doesn’t make me an Astronaut.

7. She thinks she that by praying she kind influence the mind of God to support a pipeline deal she is trying to work out with Canada.

OH, PLEASE! It’s only like this because the McCain/Palin camp keep putting out lies and false accusations. Obama doesn’t put out statments or ads that are normally scrutanized because they’re TRUE!
The media is doing it’s job. If you don’t like it, take it up with your candidate for running false ads and picking an inexperienced running mate that no one knows ANYTHING about.

obamamama (which I’m sure you’re not)…Obama (unlike most people in Congress) disclosed all his earmark information for the last couple of years (he requested none this year). In fact you can google Obama’s earmarks to find out what they were. He co-sponsored a bill with Sen. Coburn from OK to have more government transparency so that the American people could see who is asking for what. And as I’m sure you know, Alaska is the worst offender.

I hoped any reporter could ask Sarah Palin her view on issues that 60%+ Americans agree on. Would she choose the will of the people or stick to her personal/religious belief to make a decision? I think that is a real concerning part of Sarah Palin.

Congress began the corrupt practice of earmarks. John McCain has promised to veto legislation that contains them. I hope the press continues to push the issue regarding Palin. It only serves to point out how corrupt our Congress is. The more attention to the issue the better.

you really are a moron if you conflate fact checking with liberal bias. It is the all too often overlooked responsibility of the press, to check on the veracity of what politicians say. It is important to the public to know more than their PR handouts. If Palin presents herself as a crusader against pork – but – by McCain’s own standards – has been a voracious consumer of pork – that matters. That is important. that is something you can double check for yourself. McCain and Palin are simply lying to you – telling you what polls say you want to hear. You should demand more of your own candidates than that.

To MM – look at Palin’s mentor – Senator Ted Stevens. He was the earmark king and power broker that Palin lobbied for earmarks when she was mayor of Wasilla. Appropriations bills must start in the House – but the Senate can craft their own version and then they go to a conference committee to work out the differences.

When did Hillary and Joe vote “in favor of going to war with Iraq”.
As I recall, they voted in favor of allowing Pres. Bush the OPTION of going to war at a time of his choosing.
That’s no more voting in favor of going to war in Iraq, then Sarah Palin saying the the WAR in Iraq was God’s will.
The decision to go to war was Pres. Bush’s and his alone.
As it should be, as President he is the Commander-in-Chief.

Does anyone even remember McCain’s involvement in Keating 5. For those of you who dont’ know.. basically he accused of corruption. He escaped being thrown in jail, but was slapped with a reprimand for very “poor judgement”. Why are the Alaskan earmarks such a big issue now, but weren’t years ago except for the Bridge to Nowhere? What about the millions upon millions in other states? Why is it a problem that she later rejected the bridge plan in the original form, long before she was VP candidate?
How come voters don’t complain about pork in THEIR backyards-just in other states and when it makes those they oppose look bad? If you or I had a politician bring in millions of Federal dollars into OUR state we’d be like, “Wow, he/she’s really looking out for us!” It’s all hypocrisy.
Earmarks are a sham plain and simple. If appropriations can’t stand on their own they shouldn’t make it to the President’s desk, and they also can cripple more important legislation by veto because of the pork coupled to it. And no president is going to veto a bill providing funding for homeless, one-legged, abused puppies.
Pork will always be there, but at least let it stand alone, and be fought over in Congress through the usual give and take, wheeling and dealing of politics so that hopefully the stuff that benefits few citizens will not see the light of day.

I’m an active union member and shop steward for several years now. I have yet to see one thing that any political party has done for labor. It wasn’t just Reagan busting PATCO, but there was also Truman fighting a railroad workers strike in 1950.
The old ‘solid south’ that the Democrats used to run have made it so that unions are still weak in the South to this day. They used black prisoners hired out in shady deals to contractors-de facto slavery really.
Minimum wage is a tool employers use to keep wages low. They have the attitude of, “Well, that’s all we legally have to pay you…take it or leave it.” And a quarter an hour raise means you should name their first born after the boss I guess.

Palin’s problem is not that she was mayor of a small town or has only been in the Alaska governor’s office a short while. Her problem (and now ours) is that she is not well versed on the critical matters confronting the country at one of the most crucial turning points in its history.

Actually it’s only McCain who is confusing. McCain did several interviews where he elaborated on his PRO CHOICE position.
It wasn’t until sometime after he lost in 2000 that he “changed his mind” on the issue.
If a person in his late sixties, and now mid 70′s, does not know what his beliefs are; if that person keeps changing their mind about things “he could not do in good conscience” just a couple years ago; how can you trust him OR ANYTHING he says? Especially when he’s telling lies repeatedly? (That’s not conjecture, look at fact check, he and Palin are spewing non-truths and distorted information daily)
McCain has not only sold out his integrity to get the nomination, but he has flopped on most of the few GOP issues that he originally opposed. These were the very things that made him seem like a “maverick”.
The “maverick” died when he started campaigning this time. It’s a joke to think he will be standing up to anyone. He’s already shown he will cave in. You don’t think the hundreds of lobbyists on his campaign staff will expect something in return? Palin, of course, will do as told, that’s why the GOP (gas, oil, pipelines) loves her. She can recite her memorized lines and tow the party line.
