Questions For Sarah Palin
As you may know, Charlie Gibson will have the first interview with the Alaska Governor and GOP VP nominee later this week. Last week many of you provided questions for our interview with Senator McCain; we welcome the same this time around…

As vice president, do you promise not to push for teaching creationism next to evolution is public school science as you have been quoted as supporting? If not, how do you justify this position with regards to seperation of church and state?
Posted by: rc | September 8, 2008, 11:25 am 11:25 am
Charlie you can ask: How about the plane comment…it was not sold on e-bay but to a private entrepreneur. Why she endorsed Obamas’s energy plan and wanted to meet with him to discuss its merits? What exactly is Creationism? What about the bridge/you did support it. What about wanting to remove books from the library and mostly what about other “firings” in her administration? Let’s see if any of these things are asked…they can be verified on the IReport of CNN.

As an advocate for smaller government, what measuring stick do you use for deciding a program/expenditure is frivolous?
Posted by: rc | September 8, 2008, 11:27 am 11:27 am
The question I would ask is this:
During your speech at the convention you said many things that factcheck.org says are untrue. Please explain:
1. Bridge to nowhere – actaully you were for it
2. You said you are for reform but you filled your administration with friends and lobbyists, you were in charge of Ted Stevens 527, you are under investigation for abuse of power and apparently you have a history of similar problems
3. You said that mayors have “actual” responsibilities and community organizers do not. When you were mayor didn’t they have to hire a town administrator to help you because you ran into some trouble
4. You said that Obama hasn’t passed any laws. He passed several including nuclear non-proliferation, government transparency, and ethics reform. And some were bipartisan efforts.
5. You said Obama would raise taxes. Didn’t you raise taxes in Wasilla and leave it $26 million in debt?
Charlie, please ask the tough questions. Do not let her get out of answering the questions. The American people deserve to know the real Sarah Palin and not the one created by the McCain campaign.

Gov Palin, Why did you insinutate that community organizers don’t have responbilities?

What is the single most important qualification, skill, or experience that you would bring to a McCain presidency?

If global warming is not a man made phenomenon, then what in your judgement and opinion is the cause of global warming?
Posted by: Manfred | September 8, 2008, 11:31 am 11:31 am
You are a proponent of the “drill now” mantra. Citing reliable sources, please estimate the best case scenario of how much this could reduce gas prices.
Posted by: rc | September 8, 2008, 11:32 am 11:32 am
You are being branded as a “reform” candidate, but you have a solid history of requesting extensive earmarks ($27 million to the small town for which you were the mayor) and have repeatedly made the claim that you said no thanks to the Bridge to Nowhere, when in fact you supported the bridge, only changed your support for it once Congress had canceled the project, and kept the funds for other projects. How does that represent reform? Isn’t that business as usual?
Posted by: mary | September 8, 2008, 11:33 am 11:33 am
I would like Charlie Gibson to ask Governor Palin to PROVE all the facts she spoke about in her acceptance speech last week. Not with double talk, actual proof.
Posted by: Gene | September 8, 2008, 11:33 am 11:33 am
With all respect to your daughter and your family’s privacy, given her situation how can you advocate “abstinence only” education.
Posted by: rc | September 8, 2008, 11:33 am 11:33 am
Given your energy experience, what do you think are the best short-term and long-term solutions to our dependence on foreign oil?
Posted by: James | September 8, 2008, 11:34 am 11:34 am
I would like to know which books she wanted banned from the library. Doesn’t she believe that we have freedom of choice in what we read? I do not feel I need Big Government telling me what is acceptable.
Also, how can she relate to the issues faced by minorities and those in poverty in the “lower 48″? What is the minority population in Alaska?
Would she go to war with Iran without follwing diplomatic channels first?
If Joe Biden is unqualified to be vice president as he is only a senator, doesn’t that also apply to John McCain? He has never had executive experience according to their definition.
1/3 of Alaska’s economy comes from federal funds. Isn’t that a red flag we should consider? How can she be against “pork” when her states depends on it?
Posted by: GAB | September 8, 2008, 11:34 am 11:34 am
Charlie, could you please ask the Gov. about her position for abstinence-only education?
Posted by: Jackie | September 8, 2008, 11:34 am 11:34 am
Please give two examples of foreign policy experience not involving the Alaska National Guard. If you are going to be an advocate in the White House for families with Special Needs Kids, why did you slash the budget to assist them by 65%? Why did you line-item veto assistance for pregnant teen moms?
Posted by: Paige | September 8, 2008, 11:35 am 11:35 am
Why does she believe global warming is NOT man-made and what is the basis for her belief?
Posted by: Paige | September 8, 2008, 11:37 am 11:37 am
1. How do you justify calling Joe Biden a Washington Insider, when the top of your ticket has been in Washington for just as long and in compliance with Bush 90% of the time?
2. My uncle is a community organizer; please explain what you meant by the lack of responsibility statement that you have been using on the stump across the country. Community organizer’s aren’t qualified to go onto the Senate and potentially become President?
3. Judgment- I’ve heard you’re charges against Senator Obama’s stance on the surge initially, and praise for Senator McCain’s stance. Do you share the same negative view on John McCain’s initial decision to go into Iraq, and praise for Barack Obama’s opposition?
Posted by: DP | September 8, 2008, 11:37 am 11:37 am
Given your partisan tone at the RNC, how do you plan to “reach across the aile” if elected?

Do you believe a decision should be judged on the outcome it yields, or on the evidence and rational arguments backing up that decision?
Posted by: rc | September 8, 2008, 11:39 am 11:39 am
Gov. Palin, as we all know this Nation consists of people of different religion and of course different faith.
On your views, do you think it is fair to impose your faith over the others who are not the same religion like yours?
Posted by: Peace | September 8, 2008, 11:40 am 11:40 am
Why did you misrepresent (lie) about your earmark record before the world? How can you be a maverick so tied to lobbyist and securing so much pork for your small town in Alaska. Why didn’t you give the money back for the Bridge to NoWhere once you realized it was not good for your career to have pushed for it, you flipped, but kept the money.?..?
Posted by: NMP | September 8, 2008, 11:40 am 11:40 am
Do you still support abstinence only sex education?
Would you try and block any effort to use public funds to teach comprehensive sex education?
Why do you think it’s ok to block an atheist or non believer’s right to terminate a pregnancy, when your beliefs are based on christian teachings?
Posted by: Birdie | September 8, 2008, 11:41 am 11:41 am
Please ask Ms. Palin about her position on the Arctic Refuge, climate warming and the treatment of wildlife in Alaska. Also ask her about her position specifically on aerial gunning of wolves and her support of mutilation of wolves by cutting off a leg as trophies and the payment of large bounties for the killing of wolves. Also be SURE to ask her about the misrepresentation of selling the jet on ebay. It has been widely reported she listed it on ebay, the reserve bid was NOT met and the plane was then removed from ebay and sold to a private corporation. Also, it has been reported she used her line item veto in Alaska to eliminate funding for a housing project for pregnant teenagers in Alaksa. Can we say hypocrite?
Posted by: Diona Savoy0McDaniels | September 8, 2008, 11:42 am 11:42 am
Your party’s platform includes the call for a constitional amendment banning gay marriage. Do you support this? If such a thing was passed, who’s life would be improved?
Posted by: rc | September 8, 2008, 11:43 am 11:43 am
I would like to know if she sees herself as promoting only her own agenda or can she see herself listening to the people and supporting their views even if they aren’t her own. The right for a woman to choose whether to continue a pregnancy, the right of people who are in love and the same sex to have a legally bound partnership, the right to read, watch and listen to what we choose we want to read, watch and listen to. Is the constitution more than a piece of paper to her? And finally, why does she feel allowing the killing of wolves by air is a way of preserving the balance of wildlife? She come across as anti-enviroment and pro-business.

Ask Gov. Palin these questions:
Why would she imply that Obama working as a community organizer not have responsibility?
Explain the federal earmarks that came back to Wasilla with the help of a lobbyist when she was mayor.

How would you describe your leadership style?
Posted by: rc | September 8, 2008, 11:44 am 11:44 am
I would hope Charlie can ask specific questions (with follow up) on subjects such as Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Georgia, Russia, Darfur, and China?
It’s not ok to roll out your family on the cover of People magazine, give no substantive interviews, and then claim the “liberal” media is attacking you personally.
I hope the focus is on the issues, so that we as voters can determine if Ms. Palin deeply understands the most critical issues of the day. We all agree she is charismatic.

Should people vote for you because you are a woman? If so, why and if not why not? You invoked Hillary Clinton both when you were nominated and when you were speaking at the Republican Convention. What, apart from your gender, motherhood, and politics, do you have in common with Hillary Clinton?
Posted by: Dee Dee Lynn | September 8, 2008, 11:44 am 11:44 am
I read that you admitted that you have been busy and only followed the Iraq War in terms of on what you’d seen on television. How can you explain this glaring interest gap in world affairs and yet feel qualified to be vice president?
Posted by: mary | September 8, 2008, 11:44 am 11:44 am
Charlie,
Please don’t let this be a softball interview! My question would be how would she explain how someone who was a mayor of a town of 7,000 people for two years and Governor of a State half the size of San Francisco have the requisite foreign policy knowledge to be President?
Posted by: steve | September 8, 2008, 11:45 am 11:45 am
Already posted this elsewhere before there was an official “ask Palin” forum:
Ask if Gov Palin still supports federal funding for the Knik Arm bridge near her home town – more expensive but just as ridiculous as the “bridge to nowhere”. That’s another one where she has supported earmarks for in the past, but has yet to say “thanks, but no thanks” to.
Your questions should be, “will she go on record as saying as Governor of AK that she doesn’t want federal funding for this bridge and will she commit to returning the money if the end up giving it to her anyway.” That’s what are REAL earmark reformer would do.
Generally though, PLEASE don’t do the regular “walk along the shore/family background/shucks, we’re just folks” type of interview filled with softballs, no follow-up, and just accepting it when they don’t address your questions – this is too important to not do your job.

Sarah should be asked about her knowledge of middle east history and how the treaty of versaille reshaped the middle east and the persian empire, so we don’t remake the same mistakes of the last administration

Please ask Ms. Palin Exactly what she meant in her statement that unlike community organizers, mayors actually do something. I found that statement extremely offensive and would like to hear exactly what she thinks community organizers do?

Gov. Palin, why do you believe the American public has reacted so positively to your nomination?
Given Joe Biden’s strong foreign relations experience, what skills and direction will you bring to foreign policy in a McCain administration?
Gov. Palin, the feminist left has reacted angrily to your nomination in many public comments. Do you see yourself as a feminist, or as simply a hard working, dedicated individual who seeks to share their abilities with the American people? (Yes, there’s a bit of sarcasm in this question.)
Come on folks, this woman’s a winner, and no matter what questions you come up with, she’s going to handle them with grace, intelligence, and wisdom that reflects her beliefs and the beliefs of most Americans.
Get over it, Obamacrats: Palin is the most refreshing political character to come forth in since Harry Truman. She dwill drive a McCain victory.
Posted by: Neil Monroe | September 8, 2008, 11:47 am 11:47 am
Considering recent presidental elections have been almost 50/50 split, do you feel that the winners have the responsibility to take into account that 50% of the country disagrees with them? Or is your responsibility only to the other half that elected you.
Posted by: rc | September 8, 2008, 11:47 am 11:47 am
As a very long time feminist and mother, the idea that McCain can trot out a pretty face and make a comparison to Hillary Clinton is absurd and revolting. Actions always speak louder than words and lies, no matter how eloquently delivered, are still lies. Sarah Palin can’t convince me she is pro life while treating her special needs baby like a rag doll with no concern for his health or safety. No baby, especially one whose immune system is already compromised belongs at a convention of that magnitude. Please ask her about the deficit she left Wasilla; the attempt to censorship the local library;
the lack of environmental protection for her own state; other real issues that need to be shown to the voting public.

Your party platform opposes a woman’s right to choose abortion even in the event of rape or incest. Is this in line with your view on the subject?
Posted by: Stephen | September 8, 2008, 11:47 am 11:47 am
If she is so against earmarks, why is Alaska number one in the country per capita?
There are 100 REAL questions to ask this woman.
PLEASE no soft-balls.
I’d also like to hear about her husband belonging to that separatist group.
Posted by: Tim | September 8, 2008, 11:48 am 11:48 am
Please, please don’t ask the usual softball, cream puff questions that are the hallmark of network news. There are serious questions about her ability, experience, knowledge, the lies mentioned in other posts here, the confrontational and divisive tone of her convention speech, her support for Bush-Cheney failed policies, and the cynical tokenism of her nomination. And her family IS an issue. If she wants to legislate the removal of choice for MY family, then her family situations is certainly grounds for discussion. So, please don’t grovel because you got the first interview. Stand up, be brave and ask why she only agreed to an interview in a carefully controlled situation and not on the sunday news shows.
Posted by: deedee | September 8, 2008, 11:48 am 11:48 am
Charlie:
Please ask Palin why she was trying to hide her daughter’s pregnancy when most people in her town knew about it. And she had to know it would be reported to the media.
She brought her pregnant daughter on stage holding her 4-5 month old brother with a blanket covering her tummy. Was Palin trying to cover-up the pregnancy?
Why did she think the public would tolerate her trying to belittle and trash Senator Obama? Is that all the Republican’s are about? Sounds like the same old thing!

As a citizen, do you believe that George Bush has been a “uniter not a divider”? If not, what are your personal feelings about that.
Posted by: rc | September 8, 2008, 11:48 am 11:48 am
Mr. Gipson, would you please ask Governor Palin the following:
I am a supporter of Senator Obama and his desire to bring change to this country. During the last few weeks, it is apparent that this nation is extremely divided in it’s views and opinions concerning the future of this nation.
If your party should win the election in November how will you in your role as vice president seek to unify the country and make it again a nation not of red and blue states but of united states.

Charlie if you mess up this interview with
cupcake questions, I will NEVER watch you again. Please ask about her education, why did she transfer to so many colleges?
Posted by: nagob | September 8, 2008, 11:51 am 11:51 am
I have a very simple request: please conduct a serious interview with a political candidate about whom so little is known, and much of what has been provided is filled with questionable assertions. We do not need to know anything about her personal life, her kids, or sport interests, as these are completely irrelevant and have been done to death. Just stick to serious politics, issues, and press her when she avoids answering in full or simply spins. Do this as you would with any politician, but please spare us the “human interest” nonsense. There are less than two months to the election and we know nothing about her as a politician. Just once pretend that we still have serious journalists, and leave the slly stuff to the tabloids.
Posted by: Questioner | September 8, 2008, 11:51 am 11:51 am
Why did you support the bridge to nowhere, then didn’t support it , but kept the money anyway. Well I guess that is three questions. Think she can handle that many?
Posted by: Thinking | September 8, 2008, 11:51 am 11:51 am
Since Ms. Palin brings Trig to work, how does she feel about pushing corporations to aid pregnant or nursing mothers? Or pushing for more day care centers at corporations?
I also want to know about the book banning in Wasilla, and how Ms. Palin left the down in such huge debt. Also ask about her education. She says she went to 3 colleges, including University of Hawaii, which says she was never there, but other media sites have reported her going to six different colleges with no declared major. Why all the moving around and changing?
Lastest rumor I heard was that she ran off to get married to Todd to save her parents money for a wedding, but other sites are saying her oldest was born 7 months after that elopement. Was she also pregnant before marriage? Not that that means much, it just shows more that her abstinance spewing isn’t realistic, even in her own life.
Does her her future son-in-law intend to go back and finish high school?
Posted by: joesmom | September 8, 2008, 11:51 am 11:51 am
When is she paying back the federal government she took for the bridge to nowhere? She owes all the american people that money – not just a nice rebate for the alaskan people.

How has the current housing crisis impacted the citizens of Alaska? What steps do you think should be taken to improve the economy? (Please don’t accept the very broad “cut taxes and reduce spending in Washington” as an answer, get some real substantive answers).
Follow up questions will convince voters if she knows her subject matter intimately or has memorized sound bytes.
Posted by: Stacey | September 8, 2008, 11:52 am 11:52 am
Gov. Palin — You have criticized Barack Obama for being opposed to the troop Surge in Iraq, while John McCain was for it. However, in 2007 you stated that you weren’t paying much attention to the situation in Iraq. Did you have an opinion on the Surge at that time, and what were your reasons for concluding either way? Also, what was your opinion leading up to the war in Iraq? Knowing what you do now, was it a mistake to go into Iraq, when it had no connections to Al Queda, the terrorists who caused 9/11.
Posted by: B. Jamison | September 8, 2008, 11:52 am 11:52 am
Another earmark question, and maybe the best one to ask since it blankets the whole issue and touches on Palin’s contradictions of McCain’s positions:
Will the Governor reverse her stated position on earmarks (that they should be reduced) and adopt McCain’s position that earmarks should be done away with entirely and any bill containing them should be vetoed.

Sarah – we wish Senator McCain a very long and very healthy life, but he does have health issues. The question is – IF something were to happen to him on day 1, do you really feel that you are qualified to become the President of the United States? And could you please answer that question WITHOUT bringing up Senator Obama?
Posted by: Sunil | September 8, 2008, 11:54 am 11:54 am
***Put her on the spot with this one, even though i’m sure the McCain campaign is reading this thread to prepare her*
1. A Vice President needs to be ready to step in on day 1 if somehting happens to the top of the ticket. Disregard the word executive. Putting your resume` beside Senator Obama’s resume`, both of them are thin. There is no bi-partisan way for you to say you are ready right now to be President and Senator Obama is not. So point blank, are you ready, and if so, are you prepared to make the bi-partisan step and admit that Senator Obama is as well. Yes or No
2. You’ve been watching the campaing just like we have. Why has a bolt of lightning struck, and all of a sudden every other word that comes from McCain’s mouth “Change”. Why, only 2 months before the election is he talking about it when that has been your opponent’s theme all along?
Posted by: DP | September 8, 2008, 11:54 am 11:54 am
Whatever questions you ask, I hope they aren’t “softballs, and that she is pushed to explain her positions. Don’t fall victim to the conservative bullies who try to make journalists guilty for asking Republican candidates tough questions.

Do you believe that Barack Obama and Joe Biden are patriotic Americans? Do you think they are sincere in what they say about their faith and religious beliefs?
What are the first three things you’d do if you suddenly found yourself elevated to the presidency? Were there WMD found in Iraq? Was there a connection between Osama Bin Laden and Sadaam Hussein?

Dear Mr. Gibson, I would hope that before you and your producer sit down to develop a question list for these interviews, you take a few moments to remember the legacy of Peter Jennings and Edward R. Murrow. You have an opportunity to illuminate the American people about Mrs. Palin’s ties to the AIP, her far right wing ideological stands against abortion, science, global warming, protection of endangered species and sex-education. You have a chance to question her record of mismanagement and bullying as Mayor, and her refusal to cooperate with a bipartisan investigation into abuse of power. You can question her on her position on earmarks and why — if she is so concerned about the taxpayers money — why she kept the bridge to nowhere money instead of sending back to the federal government. I would hope that your researchers take the time to read some of the old articles in the Alaskan newspapers while you are up there (since few other reporters have thus far) and perhaps take some inspiration. You have an opportunity Mr. Gibson. Don’t ask about “sexism” or her family, ask about her record of fiscal responsibility (which is a joke). Ask about cutting taxes on property and increasing sales tax when she was Mayor. Ask if she thinks Alaska should vote on independence from the United States. Ask how exactly her policies would differ from George W. Bush. Ask about the deficit. I’ve watched ABCNEWS for years, ever since I was a cub reporter. I have pretty low expectations that you will do a hard news interview with a Republican — particularly since I’m sure the McCain campaign is ONLY granting interviews is reporters show “respect and deference” to their celebrity pitbull. Yet, for a moment, think of your children and grandchildren. Think of your legacy. You have an opportunity to expose the mountain of lies this campaign is built upon and ask, “have you no shame?”
Posted by: Ed Hunt | September 8, 2008, 11:58 am 11:58 am
Do NOT let Palin see the questions before being interviewed! She will have plenty of time to rehearse and prepare with her handlers. I want to see tough questions pulled out of a hat and tossed at her. Let her answer those questions on her own. I want to see how she handles herself and what she can come up with on the fly.
No fluffy questions either – play hardball with her. She could be leader of the free world if something happens to McCain, and that thought is frightening right now.

Senator Palin, you have said that since your mother taught science, you believe that a student should be taught all points of view on subjects.
Intelligent design, the point of view that the universe must have an intelligent origin is the latest in the variations on creationism.
Since science is not a body of knowledge but a method of obtaining evidence based on testing of hypotheses, can you provide a test for the hypothesis of intelligent design?
Note: circumstances are not proofs. The notion that complex structures cannot emerge from simple systems has long been disproved. By what repeatable and verifiable test can we obtain evidence of intelligent design?

What is your answer regarding “trooper-gate?” How would you handle an increasingly militant Russia? What about Iran? Your chuch seems to advocate that America should be a Theocracy. Where do you stand on that issue? What would your position be on the kind of earmarks that you sought as Mayor and which Sen. McCain opposes?

First question:
you said managing Government is “not rocket science”. 1. Is it true that when you were hired as a mayor of Wasilla, you cut your pay from $68,000/year to $64,000? Follow up question: Is it also true that you hired a city administrator for approximately $50,000/year that did the duties the former mayor was doing himself, in effect increasing the costs of your duties from $68,000 to $114,000?
Also: when you ran for mayor of Wasilla, you said it was time for Wasilla to get a Christian Mayor. Since the former mayor was a Christian, is it true that you don’t think Lutherans are Christian?

Governor Palin,
I am a devout Roman Catholic who is a moderate conservative. I truly believe that there is a place for all religions in this country, but yet there are some right-wing conservatives who denounce other Christians along with Muslims, Jews, etc. because they do not share some beliefs (for example, the Southern Baptists). Does the church that you attend denounce other faiths simply because they do not share the same belief system or does your church welcome all? There have been some reports to the contrary and I would like for you to set the recrod straight. Thank you!

Please no softball or hanging curve questions. The last few days of celebrity driven frenzy on a VP candidate whose knowledge and experience is virtually unknown except for politcal sound bites is frightening. She is going to be one heartbeat away from the presidency at a time of crisis. Why do you you insist on calling a typical governor’s experience as commander of the National Guard inside the state equal to foreign policy experience. How can you with a straight face talk about closeness to Russia as such experience. What eaxactly is your on stand on abortion – why should a child who has been brutually raped be forced to carry the fruit of that crime to term and spend her life raising the product of that crime/ Do you agree with the Gramm comment that we are a nation of whiners due to our economic problems. How do you plan to deal with the continued fall out of the subprime crisis, what about the outsourcing of jobs overseas – where do you stand on that and what, if anything, do you plan to do about it. No matter what, please stay away from the personal life stuff – we don’t need a People Magazine piece or National Inquirer effort that simply fuels more celebrity frenzy for such a serious decision.

In a speech to your church, you said that the United States attack on Iraq was part of “God’s plan”. Isn’t starting wars in the name of God supposed to be restricted to radial Islamic terrorists? The follow up question is — how do we know, Gov. Palin, that you will not suddenly realize that nuclear war is part of “God’s plan”, sitting 3 feet away from the ‘red button’?

Why is the Alaskan Independent Party linked to groups that are racist? Why did Palin make a video for them in 2008?
Is Palin a racist?
What are her views on immigration?
Why did she cut funding to unwed mothers?
Why did she cut funding for food banks?
Why did she cut funding for Special Needs Children by 60%?
Why did she put a tax on food?
Did the big oil companies vet her?
Does she believe in Freedom of the Press?

Charlie
here is just a start…almost all of these i have seen answered adeptly and with detail as I went to many small events in NH over the past year?
to give us an insight on how she makes decisions…
What is your exact stance on global warming?
What is your logic behind that stance? What are the numbers of studies and by whom that you have weighted heavier than those exponentially larger (by sheer scientific population) as to why most scientists are wrong? What is your expertise that brought you to that belief?
What if you are right what happens?
What if you are wrong what happens?
How would you expect to negotiate trade deals with China and India with your beliefs…?
Do you think China and India exponential industrialization and growth is a concern since you do not buy into man made global warming and have used that as reasoning behind so many of your policies and proposals in Alaska?
Do you think the US itself has a carbon output that needs to be curtailed, and if so, how do you do that?
How do you get Russia to back down? What is it’s historical relationship with Georgia? Do you think Georgia should have toned down their behaviors in light of the hostilities that are now being redirected not only at them but at the US when many in the US were asking them to.
What is the historical nature of enemy warships in the carribean?
What are the changes that need to be made to healthcare to stop the present exponential growth in cost? Are those new policies? and why do you think they would work?
What are the three biggest issues we face as a nation? What do you know about these three issues?
Will you promise to eliminate ALL earmarks for the state of Alaska if you were elected ?
Do you believe that a member of a school board who fought for education policies that scientific studies shown that they did not work both nationally and locally… whose own child failed out of that system should be elected if they continue to fight for those policies? Do you think if your child went to that school you would have a right to know that the board members child had failed from the same policies that the board member was promising to push forward in light of the scientific evidence and their own personal family issues?
Do you know the historical and philosophical reasons and the constitutionality of separation of church and state…where does that separation get stated?
What is the constitutionality of Presidential signing statements?
Do you think going into Iraq was a mistake? and how much has it cost…what percentage of our national budget is that? How much will it cost?
and for how long will that go?
are the shia loyal to Iran? are they loyal to Saudi Arabia? are they loyal to Pakistan?
what is/was the mujahadin?
Where did Osama Bin Laden come from…a decade by decade basic history?
What are the three major financial problems causing healthcare increases?
What are the issues with social security? What are her answers for those?
How does NATO play apart in our defense? Does she think they owe us? How does she see a Mccain presidency bringing back our allies?
What is the historic relationship with iran? It’s evolution?
If on Septemeber 11 like Dck Cheney a year 9 months after she took office…she was sitting in the white house asking for permission to shoot down US commercial airliners…what would her decision process have been?
would if the planes were British? or Canadian? or Russian? What if there were no Americans on board?
What would the difference be culturally if it were African terrorists? and what threats could come from Africa? or southeast asia? Where is al qaeda factions located?
What are our 3 largest exports?
How many people live below poverty in our country?
how do we handle the mortgage crisis? what effect do you think deregulation had in this? Who pushed for that deregulation?
What is the name of the Secretary general of the United Nations?
Outside of building a gas pipeline in an oil and gas economy dependent state and more drilling what is your energy expertise? What regions are best suited for what altenative energies?

Charlie — I dare you to rake her over the coals the way you and George S. did to Obama during the debate you monitored, you know, stuff like his pastor, flag pin, etc. Surely you can find similar useless info about her that will help with the ratings. And also ask how at a convention that pretended to stress “service” she could belittle the work of community organizers and, by extension, anyone who volunteers in his/her community.

Please ask Governor Palin for more comments on how the McCain ticket proposes to solve the healthcare crisis in this country. Are they really in tune with the average american who has no health insurance? I’m a nurse who works in an ob/byn clinic, I have seen women come in who have not had physicals in years because they have had no health insurance and cannot afford to pay “out of pocket”, only to find out they have more serious problems that may require surgery or more testing. Their choice is difficult, do I go into debt paying healthcare bills? or do I ignore the doctors recommendations and not pursue treatment which may then result in more serious problems?

Hello Charlie,
I have been an avid viewer of ABC News programming. You will be interviewing Sarah Palin this week. I would expect you to vet her as you did Obama during the primary debates with Clinton.
This interview will prove whether you are a journalist or just a commentator like George Stephenopolis.
I wouldn’t expect you to be disrespectful, but I do expect you to get down to who she is, her record and her stands based on factual information available.
This is for the presidency and you as well as and any other journalist have a responsibility to the public to get to the truth and not have a nice little conversation with this woman.
Please do your job and remember that she is going for the 2nd highest job in the nation and the people of this country deserve the truth. This is not about Sarah Palin or Charles Gibson. This is about the United States Of America. I’ll be watching.
PS Don’t forget to ask her about her patriotism regarding the organization she is a member of and spoke to about Alaska’s cessation from the union.

Ask her how to keep Iran out of Iraq, if the Iraqis want Iran’s help, even if it is not in the best interest of the US.

In what specific ways does being a hockey mom, small-town mayor, and new governor of a sparsely-populated state prepare one to deal with critical issues facing our diverse and economically-stressed nation, not to mention a perilous world?
What lessons can we learn about your personal leadership qualities and executive style based on the personnel issues in your time as mayor and governor, and contrasting your statements with your actions?
When you considered whether to accept McCain’s offer of the vice-presidency, did you consider the national “outing” effect it would have on your daughter, her boyfriend, and her pregnancy? Did you ask her?

Mr. Gibson, since the Republicans consistently try to make an issue of patriotism (of the Obamas), can you please ask Ms. Palin to explain her and her husband’s preference to the AIP political party? And, given those explicit ties to a secessionalist groups how she feels she can attack the Obama’s patriotism. Also, can you please ask her about her “jews for jesus” beliefs, that jews must convert to christianity… and b/c they do not they DESERVED the holocaust and suicide bombers in Israel.
After the FARCE both you and George S. made of the philly debate you owe America serious questions about these serious issues.

Governor Palin, you have asked seminary students to pray for various things, citing them as God’s Will (the Iraq War, a natural gas pipeline in Alaska, etc.). From this, I deduce that you are intimately familiar with God’s Will and seek to promote it.
Will you also promote the modification of the Constitution to bring it in line with God’s Law as dictated in the Bible, as Mike Huckabee wished to do?

The tone of the interview is my main concern. I hope the questions are not the type of questions posed at a beauty pagaent: How do you balannce motherhood and work? Were you excited to have been chosen by John McCain as his VP pick. NONE OF THIS!!
The media, the pundits, and everyone in America had amost 2 years to vet Obama. I want her strange brand of Christianity to be exposed– conversion of gays to straight people. Why did she sit through the Jews for Jesus pitch by one of their advocates in church and afterwards when she finds out the powerful Kewish electorate don’t approve of her association with that organization she comes out and says she doesn’t agree with the message, or her pastor.. SHE HAS SOME EXPLAINING TO DO. What is God’s responsibility in the Iraq war? SHe made some strange zealot statements where God and the killing of people– that is what war is.
Her ties to the radical Alaska Independence organization with their plans to secede the union?? Camp Mac is trying to downplay her association with the group but we know they are still trying to say her husband IS a member for many, many years but she isn’t. What a load of crap. I find this unbelievable. Why are the Republicans’s trying to remove the Democrat over the Troopergate investigation in Alaska? There are important questions she needs to be asked in order for us to understand her mindset.
I want her grilled and afterwards I want her quotes to be misquoted by the media like Michelle Obama’s were. I want her to have the same treatment Michelle Obama had, only in a shorter compressed timeframe.

Charlie,
Please ask Mrs. Palin some simple world geography questions. Most Americans can’t answer these questions, but they expect their leaders to be able to do so. She can’t get “briefed” enough for this question…the only thing she can say is “Tunisia?, I’ll have to get back to you on that one, Charlie.”
Posted by: Collin's Dad | September 8, 2008, 12:16 pm 12:16 pm
I am reposting my post from Charlie’s blog (September 4, 2008). I wasn’t aware of this new ABC blog until a couple of minutes ago.
Pete:
Thank you for your comment and insight. You clarified my anxiety regarding this two part interview.
What Pete wrote: Re: Palin interview.
More kid-gloves from Charlie? Palin will sit down for multiple interviews with Gibson in Alaska over two days, most likely Thursday and Friday, said McCain adviser Mark Salter. Political interviews are never done like this. Because it makes the questioning entirely at the discretion of the person being interviewed and their handlers. The interviewer has to be on their best behavior, at least until the last of the ‘multiple interviews’ because otherwise the subsequent sittings just won’t happen. For a political journalist to agree to such terms amounts to a form of self-gelding. The only interviews that are done this way are lifestyle and celebrity interviews. And it’s pretty clear that that is what this will be.
Therefore, my advice to Charlie:
Ask the toughest and most relevant questions and appropriate followup questions in the first part of the interview. This will preserve the opportunity for journalistic integrity.
Second, if Palin and the McCain campaign can handle the heat and there is a second interview, ask more questions to clarify what wasn’t fully answered in the first interview. Spend little time dealing with ‘fluff’. If people want to know the propaganda side of Palin, they can watch her b.s. video presented at the Republican Convention.
The latest poll (USA/Gallup)show the McCain/Palin ticket is ahead by 10 points regarding likely voters. The Republicans used the media and election fraud to win the last two elections. So the big question for this election: Will you honor your profession by being a journalist in the best sense of the word or will you help cement a fascist state that has little compassion for its people and no or little allegiance to its civil liberties? The last liberty to fall will be our freedom of speech. The stakes are great. This is not hyperbole; it is the stark reality of our times.
Charlie, please ask the tough questions and appropriate followup questions in your first interview. As I stated in a recent post, Chris Wallace did an excellent job of interviewing both strategists for McCain and Obama. I am not a fan of Chris Wallace or fox, but the honorable path was taken by Chris. His job and your job was eloquently stated in a quote noted in a post by David:
“The journalist’s job is to make politicians uncomfortable, to explore evasions, contradictions and vulnerabilities.”
I would add: If they do not, our civil liberties, opportunities to provide a government that respects, provides for, and protects its citizenry, is at great peril.
Notice how many times people in your blog use the word please to impress upon you the importance of what you are tasked to do. They are the real Patriots of this county; they realize what is at stake and they truly give a damn about the founding principles of our government. Please do not let the American people down. Our founding fathers (and mothers)fought too hard for us to continue witnessing the slow and immoral erosion of our precious civil liberties. These liberties provided the world a hope for a better and safer tomorrow. Without them we have no light.
I appeal to you as a father and perhaps a grandfather. Do not let position, greed, or any other factor derail you from journalistic integrity; the stakes are just too high.
Peace

On August 4 of this year, you issued a press release, as Governor of Alaska, praising Barack Obama’s energy policies, which included support for a natural gas pipeline across Alaska.
The same press release indicated you thought that oil production taxes might slow development of oil resources.
1. Was this press release removed from the official governor’s web site as a favor to the McCain campaign by someone working for the state government and paid for by taxpayer dollars?
2. Is it true that, despite your criticism of oil production taxes, that every man, woman and child in Alaska receives a substantial payment, from the state of Alaska, that comes from oil production taxes?
3. Why does oil rich Alaska, with so much money that the state sends a substatial check to all of its residents, rank as the number one recepient of federal government earmarks? Why does Alaska have any federal funds (coming from the taxes of the lower 48) at all? Doesn’t Alaska have enough oil money to pay for its own bridges, roads and other necesary projects?
4. Would you agree that it is fair to say that every dollar of the ‘State of Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend’ benefit result in increased gas prices for all of the other states in the union?

Charlie,
There are two questions I would like you to ask to Palin:
1. You have stated a belief that life begins at conception, oppose any abortion for any reason and oppose stem cell research. Do your views extend to opposition of in vitro fertilization? What about the disposal of unused fertilized eggs?
2. In video taped comments at your church, you state that our invasion of Iraq was a mission from God. Would you care to elaborate on your views of how religion should factor in to foreign policy decisions? What does separation of church and state mean to you?

Why was your first and only interview with People magazine? Do you think this creates a credibility issue for some voters? In hindsight would you have picked another venue to introduce yourself to the American public?
Posted by: SET | September 8, 2008, 12:21 pm 12:21 pm
Governor Palin, several weeks before accepting John McCain’s offer to be his VP pick you said you do not know what a Vice President does all day. You have also indicated you have not had time to follow the Iraq war much more than by television accounts.
In a Q&A during the Alaskan race for Governor you seemed to think that the words “under God” were in the Pledge of Allegiance from the beginning and even that the founding fathers were alive when the Pledge of Allegiance was written.
I am a resident alien and moved to the USA in 2000. I seem to be more informed on these basic American matters than you are. This really scares me. Please explain to me why we should trust you to be informed enough to be our next Vice President.

Charlie,
I would suggest being very careful in how you conduct this interview. I have no doubt that you will be fair and impartial in your questioning. You are one of the few “journalists” these days who appear to keep whatever bias you may have out of sight. However, if you are too forceful and insert too many “gotcha” kinds of questions, you run the risk of losing that reputation and becoming part of the story and not just reporting on it.
Posted by: BKM in Tennessee | September 8, 2008, 12:21 pm 12:21 pm
Please ask her what books she would like banned, i.e., “removed from libaries.” Ask her what she believes we should do next to pursue peace in the Middle East. Ask her what she believes the US should do to keep Iran out of Iraq if the Iraquies want them there.
Ask her, please, exactly what you would ask Joe Biden or Hillary Clinton were they in your chair. If she wants to be a professional politician and most especially, a vice president – treat her as one.

Reposted from Charlie’s blog (September 4, 2008)
Charlie stated in this blog: “Once you know about her daughter’s pregnancy, once you know about her husband’s political interest in the Alaska Independent Party, once you know about the special nature of their latest child, I think that’s enough.”
Are you saying that her husband’s interest in the AIP is a family matter and not a legitimate inquiry of journalists. Would you say the same if Obama’s wife was a member of this party and Obama was ostensibly a member who promoted the AIS via satellite in 2008 and purportedly attended their conferences in 2002 and 2006? The question goes to the heart of the campaign: Put America First.
ABC News spokesman Jeffrey Schneider said he did not believe Gibson’s stated stance about family questions was key to securing the interview. Is this the truth???
McCain campaign manager Rick Davis said the offer was made the day after the Republican convention and that there were no ground rules on what could be asked. Is this the truth??
If the answer to these two questions is yes, and if Charlie asks Palin the tough questions with appropriate follow-up, the interviews need to be re-broadcasted at least 3x before the election. It likely will be the only interview before the election. Charlie: I sure hope you proof me wrong. The world will be watching.
Dr. Monk
ABC: The world will be watching you too. Please ensure that journalistic integrity prevails.

Ask her how people currently get from the city of Ketchikan to the Ketchikan airport. Then ask why a bridge wouldn’t be safer, less expensive and provide much better commercial access.
Ketchikan is the only major Alaska city that doesn’t have direct access to its airport. Airports are very important in Alaska.

“Do you think women should be pastors?”
“Why can a woman be a president, but not a pastor?”
“Do you think wives should submit to their husbands?”
“Do you obey your husband in all things as to the Lord?”
“Do you believe in evolution?”
“Do you believe the world was created in six days, 6000 years ago?”
“Will everyone who doesn’t believe in Jesus go to Hell?”
“Do you think the Bible is the literal Word of God?”
The idea of a president who thinks the earth is 6000 years old and does not believe in evolution terrifies me.

I would like to know what is the McCain-Palin plan (cause Barrack has one) to eliminate our foreign dependency on oil in 10 years. I would also like a direct question on why their emphasis on drilling offshore, and her’s on ANWR, when it is fact that the US only has 3% of the worlds oil yet consumes 25%. Please ask Gov. Palin to explain the concept of posse comitatus, its origins, and her views on its continued relevance in our present context.

Charlie – leave no room for typical polictical wishy/washy answers. Since she stated that Hillary Clinton was ‘just whinning’ about the sexism in the interviews/media, and she is now complaining that the ‘mainstream media is picking on her and her family’ – pull off the gloves and ask her pointed, direct questions.
I am concerned about many things:
* Hypocrisy – too many flip/flops on several topics (which have been on the record & vetted)
* “Outlawing abortion” – we are ALL entitled to our opinions – however I believe the VP oath also clearly states that she would be responsible for upholding the constitution & the laws of the land. Roe v Wade is the law – is she saying she would not support the federal law?
Also – what does she think of pharmists that refuse to fill birth control prescriptions, yet they do fill Rx for Viagra? Does she support a woman’s right to privacy with her doctor to receive birth control? What if the woman is married versus single?
Please move the interview beyond reproduction issues — that is only ONE platform item.
* It’s the Economy … Her record as mayor & governor does not reflect her claim to be a fiscal conservative. Ask her to name 3 things the Federal Government can do to improve the declining economy launched by Bush. Also, what makes her qualified?
A few other questions …
* Wildlife protection – she does not have a good record of this as governor. Would she support a change in federal law making animal cruelty a federal offense?
* Enforcement & protection of federal wildlife preserves – again, not a good record for the Alaska Gov. When such a large portion of their economy comes from tourism (not to mention global warming, etc).
* Foreign relations – absolutely no experience in this area. How does she think she could represent the US in any foreign nation with no experience. How would she negotiate with foreign leaders — or would she not even negotiate. Who would she like to see as Secretary of State?
* Charlie, ask her what her biggest weakness is, the biggest mistake she has made professionally.
Bottom line- treat her like just like you would any other politician.

While asking about posse comitatus, also ask if she understands the concept of habeus corpus and why it just might be important.
How insane is it that we feel compelled to ask a vice presidential candidate questions from a high school civics class? These are sad times.

I would like to know how Sarah Palin can demean Barack Obama stating that he started out after college as a community leader when everytime she talks about her own resume she states that she started out in the PTA because she wanted to improve her children’s education? I would also like Charlie to answer at the top of the interview what restrictions, if any, the McCain camp put on the interview and did Sarah Palin see the question in advance of the interview?

Follow up, follow up, follow up. It almost doesn’t matter what you ask. It matters what you accept as an answer.
This election is about hiring for the two most powerful positions in our country. Unfortunately, we are not being allowed to ‘interview’ our candidates in the usual way anymore. You are the one token interviewer.

It would be a huge disservice to the American people is you asked “soft ball” ridiculous questions as you did at the democratic primaries. Please ask questions of substance and follow up until you get the TRUTHFUL answer. We deserve a well researched, fact finding interview. Not one that should be air on TMZ. Will she commit to appearing on one of the Sunday morning news programs (excluding Fox)? A taped interview is better than nothing, but does not truly demonstrate the ability to discuss issues with various political experts who ask tough follow up questions.
I think the key is not to attack, but rather to ask legitimate questions and follow up when an answer is clearly campaign spin. Only the bravest of journalists do this because they risk a backlash from the people who drink the kool-aid.

Also, if she believes in a smaller federal government: 1) why does she concern herself with homosexuals, at all? Why does she support a a ban on gay marriage?
2) If God takes back the souls of fetuses not brought to term, don’t those souls have another chance to be born? So, why shouldn’t an 11 year old victim of incest, be given a “morning after pill”,
so that little soul can fly back to God? Or, why shouldn’t a baby with no brain, arms, or legs, be sent back to God, for another chance? Why shouldn’t any unwanted child be safe in God’s loving embrace rather than forced to be born into possible poverty, & abuse?
Shouldn’t a “smaller” government stay out of our personal lives, and no tax payer money be wasted on such issues?
By the way, does she believe that life begins at conception, or at “quickening”? ( See Thomas Aquinas).
Does, Gov. Palin, know that the rate of abortions is much lower, in those countries which support sex education? In those classes, girls are taught to have self respect, and that it is OK to say no, to a boy.
How does she expect US students compete with those taught critical thinking skills and a full scientific & liberal arts curriculum, in India, China, & Europe, along with the rest of the civilized world, if our kids our taught that Global Warming does not exist, and evolution is not true? How can our future generations get the new jobs in scientific & technical fields, if they are not properly educated?
Does she also believe the world is really flat? Oh, and how many angels can dance on the head of a pin, Gov. Palin?
If everything is God’s Will, ( only a Christian God, of course) as she states, do we just give up on finding new scientific breakthroughs, not negotiate with Iran or North Korea? Do we let the Space Station crumble? Why not give up, entirely, and let the US simply fade away, or is she also waiting for the Rapture to take care of it all, as Bush believes?!

Questions for Sarah Palan:
Is there any difference between your positions on moral issues and those of the Christian Right?
Should an employer have the right to fire an employee for being gay?
Should a landlord have the right to evict a tenant for being gay?
Should a judge have the right to display the Ten Commandments in the courtroom?
Should a public school teacher have the right to lead the class in prayer?
Should the government pay part of the cost for Christian schools through vouchers to parents?
Are non-believers as capable of making wise moral judgments as Christians are?
What should the government do to censor sexual content in TV shows, movies, books, Etc.?
If abortion were illegal, what should be the punishment and who should be punished for it?
Do you believe in the separation of Church and State?
Do you support any laws that are beneficial to gay people?

Could Gov. Palin explain how Sen. McCain’s economic plan(s) differs from the Republican Party mainstream/Pres. Bush’s? Tax breaks were supposed to stimulate the economy but there are rising unemployment rates, recession and an enormous deficit, less government (a perennial Republican theme) resulted in unregulated lending and a mortgage crisis and insufficent government staffing to determine if there is lead in imported toys.

In addition to any ground rules that may have been stipulated, both ABC and Charlie Gibson need to make a public statement regarding Palin or anyone else associated with the McCain campaign getting advance notice of the questions to be asked.
What do other bloggers’ think? Is this a reasonable request to make of ABC and Charlie Gibson?

Does she subscribe to the same theory on executive power as the Bush administration? What is her opinion on the use of signing statements? Does she believe, like the Bush administration, that the Geneva Conventions do not apply to Guantanimo detainees because of their status as “unlawful enemy combatants?” Please ask her to go into detail on all of these; no “yes” or “no” answers.

My, my, my….so Palin is going to talk to the big bad biased media….Charles Gibson should ask the obvious question….What makes her think she has the experience and judgement to be vice president of the United States when she doesn’t even know what the Vice President does. And if she begins to refer to Obama’s experience Charles should politely cut her off. The issue is not Obama’s experience it is hers. If John McCain said that the most important aspect of vice president is to be ready on day one what evidence can she provide that is ready (and not just a political gimmick..)…And be ready, Charles to be tough on her…you are a respected journalist….Of course, if Palin comes off badly the Republicans will jump on you as being biased. However, if you are not tough on her (as you were with Obama, Biden, McCain, Hillary, and all the others) then you are not doing your job.

Please ask her if she’s found out “what it is the Vice President does every day” or if she has “paid much attention to Iraq” yet.
Apart from that I am very concerned over how extremist her religious views seem to be. On Fox News the other day a commentator was defended the fact that her congregation spoke in tongues by saying the speaking in tongues is now part of the American religious mainstream. I do not want to see this country deteriorate into a Third World-Dark Ages theocracy.

What was the last book you read?
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to compromise in government?
When you see people wearing campaign buttons that say “hottest vp”, how does that make you feel?
Was McCain your choice for president through the primaries?
Did you talk to the McCain camp about the role you would have in Washington if you won?

Mr. Gibson,
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE remember that she is running for the second highest govt. position in our country and should know a great deal about policies –whether she is a Washington insider or not.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE remember that you work for ABC not Entertainment Tonight or ACCESS Hollywood. Ask her hard questions that require more than just a sound bite!
Posted by: Angie | September 8, 2008, 1:24 pm 1:24 pm
I think that the entire questioning can ignore ANY questions regarding whether or not Governor Palin is a woman. Let Fox defend her there, and pundits deal with all of that. I hope you do NOT ask her whether or not she feels she’s been attacked, and focus on ISSUES. On her RECORD. On matters that concern how the American public can make an informed decision. The contradictions in her stated positions, vs actions. How her creationist and Evangelical stances feed her public decisions. How her pro-BIRTH beliefs do not extend to funding important teenage mother programs (if, indeed she DID cut funding there). Biden, Obama, and (not nearly enough)McCain are grilled. She should be. It is crucially important with this Day One readiness issue, to see how she WOULD be able to handle the complexities of international security and catch up by January! And how is it that she and McCain are outsiders, more so that Obama and Biden? If you look at the WHOLE ticket, what is it she brings that was lacking on the ticket, in her executive experience? We won’t go into the discrepancies of record with McCain… not for this interview, but I echo the sentiments of many. Do us the favor of beginning the sort of vetting that we’ve not had because of this Fox and Republican (they ARE the same) insistance of sexism in vetting her! Thank you Mr. Gibson. You ARE a journalist, so I am looking forward to seeing that part of you as only you can do it.

As for CG being a “respected journalist,” I’d have to say many of us are questioning that after the primaries. Charlie, given that you’re they’re go-to-guy for this interview, you really need to prove you’re not just a lapdog, or send your resume to Fox.
Sorry to be so blunt, but these are critical times and like Anne Kilkenny, I can’t be silent.

Where is Osama Bin Laden?
Does she think it was the proper course of action to invade Iraq, instead of intensifying the search for the man responsible for directly attacking the U.S. on Sept. 11, 2001, Osama Bin Laden?
What is her stance on women serving as front-line soldiers, instead of in rear-support positions?
Does she think women should be eligible for the draft?
What are her thoughts of Iraqi women being forced into prostition in Syria?
Does she support giving Syria money and/or giving money to relief efforts for the 1.5 million Iraqi’s immigrants in Syria that are not allowed to hold jobs?
Does she have any ideas on how stop human slavery and human trafficing of women and children?

Regarding vouchers: my understanding of the McCain position is that parents should not have to send their children to failing schools and, thus, he supports vouchers. I have several questions: (1) would vouchers be only for children who are in failing schools? (2) would the voucher be enough to pay the full cost of a private school? (3) would those private schools have to submit to testing of students in order to verify that the children are actually succeeding there over the public school they originally went to?
Most of all, Mr. Gibson, please insist on real answers to the questions. I am more than a little tired of a journalist asking a question, candidates saying something completely non-responsive and the journalist just going on to another question. I think the best questioning I ever saw was Elizabeth Vargas with Ross Perot when he kept trying to dodge the quesiton of whether or not he was running for president. She actually made him answer the question. It was very well done.

Once you step into the public arena, scrutinys hould be expected. Since Palin campaigned on abstinence in 2006, and she and McCain have tried to divert attention away from the real middle class woes by bringing abortion to the forefront, has she suggested adoption to her daughter. There is no reason for these two children to get married. They bring no life experience to the table. They need to be allowed to grow up and respect the sanctity of marriage. Just because there seems to be rise in teens carrying babies to term does not make it okay and it is very poor role modeling.

Charlie:
You have an extraordinary opportunity to do the right thing and ask THE TOUGH QUESTIONS. Those pertinent policy questions that I would have chosen to ask have already been expressed above by others….. and in great numbers. Read them carefully. The American people want answers! Try not to be seduced by her “likable” demeanor or what I am sure is going to be a subtle bat of an eyelash. If you leave the tough questions by the sidelines or allow her to double talk……you will be perceived as a weak interviewer….and perhaps even a bit bias. Take a page from the George Stephanopoulos rule book……..it doesn’t matter what side of the fence you are on…..George NEVER gives the person he is interviewing “a pass”.

It is critical for special needs children to be a daily routine – nutrional, exercise and stimulation, to maximize their potential for independent living down the road. It is not enough to dismiss questions along these lines with lines attributed to you and those close to you that generally down syndrome babies are happy people. Mr. Gibson, I understand that you do not think it is appropriate to ask Gov. Palin about her family. If the McCain campaign has chosen to promote her “family values”, i.e., her son is leaving for Iraq shortly, her new baby is a special needs baby, and her oldest daughter has chosen to keep her baby and marry the father, she paraded her baby around the stage then passed him around. I would think it IS appropriate to inquire about her family and how she will manage a new special needs baby with the demands of the Vice Presidency. It’s one thing to be a working mom. It’s a whole other ball of wax to be the Vice President, a heartbeat away from the Presidency, and be a mom with with 5 kids.

Charlie, I beg of you: don’t do a softball “human interest” piece here. Please don’t agree to give her the questions in advance so that handlers can write out answers for her. Please don’t stick to innocuous subjects. We need to know her OWN beliefs and her OWN ability.
There are more questions about this problematic candidate than I have time to write. But here are some I’d like to see dealt with.
Regarding Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac: does Governor Palin understand that these are private institutions, despite her assertion that they have gotten “too big and too expensive to the taxpayers”? Does she feel she has a solid understanding of the fundamentals of our nation’s economy? What does she see as the main problems and opportunities confronting the economy?
Alaska is rich with oil money. Why did Gov. Palin ask for $27 million in federal earmarks — paid for by the other 49 states — for Wasilla and its six thousand residents? How does this gibe with her current stated opposition to earmarks? Why does she repeatedly claim that she opposed the Bridge to Nowhere, when she not only publicly supported it but strongly so over a long period of time? If she genuinely opposed the waste of it, why did she then KEEP the $300 million dollars that would have been spent on the bridge, rather than returning it to the federal government?
Does she think it is fiscally conservative that, during her tenure, she took Wasilla from having a budget surplus to carrying a debt? When a town lacks a sewage treatment plant and a hockey stadium, which does she feel is a higher priority?
Does she support the teaching of religious belief systems other than her own in public schools? Why does she feel that any religious teaching belongs in public schools?
Could she please explain what the First Amendment of the Constitution contains, and how she interprets its meaning?
What rights precisely does she feel that prisoners and prisoners of war should receive?
Does she currently feel that the war in Iraq is God’s will? If so, in what way?
Dexter Clark, the Vice Chairman of the Alaska Independence Party, has stated in a recently released video that she was in fact a member of the AIP but decided to become a registered Republican in order to further her political career. How does she respond to this? Does she believe that Alaska should have a referendum on seceding from the union? What would she do if Alaska did have such a vote?
Thanks for letting me write. I really need to know the answers to this stuff. I hope I’ll get some of it later this week!

Does Palin support the existence of Israel? Charlie please be tough on her. Don’t just talk about her son going to Iraq and her daughter’s pregnancy. We need info from her and if she cannot or will not provide facts and figures, we need you to point that out. Never before has the “freedom of the press” been so critical in our lives.

Please request specific answers ala Campbell Brown.
Questions for Palin:
1. You have refused to release 1000 emails on the basis of executive privilege yet many of these documents were also sent to your husband, and many of them were politically charged against people who have disagreed publicly with you. Why are you not being transparent and cooperative with this issue AND the pressure from your office and your husband to members of the sheriff’s office.
2. You kept the hundreds of millions of dollars that, when you first supported the “Bridge to Nowhere” continued on as an earmark for funds to Alaska anywhere.
3. You claim to be a reformer and against corruption yet your vast success in getting hundreds of millions of dollars in earmark funds for Wasila and for Alaska came only AFTER you hired Ted
Steven’s lobbyists. And after Steven’s indictment for corruption, you are still retaining his connections. How does this equate to being a reformer and/or not pandering to lobby money and votes?

Ask her about the Alaska Independence Party.
Ask her what books she tried to ban.
Don’t ask her about the plane. She said she “put it” on eBay, not that it sold. But then again John McCain is going around saying that she “sold” it on eBay for a “profit.” Both false. :) Ask McCain about that. Hehe

Does your view of being pro-life which includes being-anti-abortion also include being anti-in-vitro fertilization since many of the zygotes/embryos are discarded after use? And if you believe that human rights should not be taken away, how does that line up with your views on torture and the “collatoral damage” of an unjustified war?
Posted by: Deidre | September 8, 2008, 2:17 pm 2:17 pm
First, permit a comment: You national media people are doing it again. As you failed the public with your soft ball questions during the run up to the Iraq invasion, you, thus far, have given a free pass to this unknown, obviously provincial and largely unvetted woman. Since her handlers are intent on minimizing her exposure, and since McCain did so little digging, we are left with imagery that has been concocted (even including her high school basketball performances). It is critical that we know more. Her lack of “experience” aside, I’m more interested in what she thinks, in her political philosophy, in learning how she incorporates her religous beliefs into her politics, and, frankly, I want to know if and how her provincialism affects all of this. I pray that you will rise to the challenge. Three suggested questions:
Governor Palin, when you see Alaska do you see America?
Governor Palin, Senator McCain now claims to be the “change” candidate. Inasmuch as he supported the president over 90% of the time, could you be more specific. And as Vice President what actions or policies of George W. Bush would you recommend to your running mate that he now oppose?
Governor Palin, Do you take issue with Senator Obama’s concern about the situation in Afghanistan? More broadly, the Iraq redux foreign policy debate would seem to pit those of the Bush “make the world safe for democracy” school of thought against those of the reemerging “geo-political balance of power” school of thought. Could you discuss with reference both to Iraq and Afghanistan? And Russia too, for that matter.

Ask her about the differences between the two Iraq wars, and why she thinks Bush (the first one)did not think it was necessary to remove Saddam Hussein from power in 1991.
(follow-up) Do you believe Saddam Hussein had anything to do with the attacks on 9-11.

I think you should ask very simple questions to test her ability to lead immediately…
Who is the President of Pakistan?
How many regional Fed Reserve Banks are there?
What are the consititutional responsiblities of the Vice President?
What is the number of the Amendment to the Consitiution that deals with Incapacity of the President?
Does someone who has made only 1 trip overseas and only obtained a Passport in the last 12 months know enough about the World to manage Foreign Policy?
Ask her to relate her understanding of the Consitutional separation of Church and State

Ms. Palin,
During the primary campaign Senator McCain was very verbal in his commitment to keep this campaign free of the backstabbing discourse that has become so prevalent in the last to Presidential elections, on the part of the Republican party and Karl Rove.
Would you commit to making this same promise and to stop making this campaign about personal affronts on each candidate. During your acceptance speech you made quite a few disconcerting remarks regarding the opposing candidates. This does not sit well with many Americans. We want to deal with real issues, such as the economy and the war. While we are concerned about your children and your family, who you are as a Vice Presidential candidate should be weighed by your political views and not your religious views. As Jewish American I am guaranteed protection against religious persecution and other’s beliefs and I am frankly not interested in hearing about yours.

In addition, could she address the three things she would like to see in the federal level and three things she would like to see on the state level to help families with special needs children.

Before you took office as the Mayor of Wassilla, the town had little debt. After you left the Mayor’s office after being there for 6 years, not only did you leave the town with debt, but a staggering debt reported to have rose more than 69%. You also received earmarks for the town at a rate of $1000.00 per resident, more than the entire State of Idaho received, (Wassilla has only approx. 7000 residents) Given these well documented and proven facts, how can you run for the vice presidency as a “proven” reformer who has repeatedly said no to earmarks and pork barrel spending? Isn’t that a proven lie via your own record?

Charlie:
After reading most of the above partisan comments, I would submit that you frame questions of your own selection with a non-gender, non-political party bias; questions that seem important to middle America, questions concerning taxes, energy, jobs, defense, the environment and stay away from those of religion. Finally, if you choose to hit her on her presumed lack of experience, please be gracious and also point out the lack of experience on the part of others, both preceeding her who went on to the presidency (TR, HST), and in the present campaign the head of the other ticket.

Can you ask the governor why she demeaned community organizers in her convention speech. Can you ask her what her definition of a community organizer is. Can you ask her if in her opinion someone who works for low paid, through a church organization assisting folks who were laid off from factory jobs, is doing honorable work. Has she had experience working with community organizers through her government or church?
Can you also ask about her cutting back on funding for low income teenage mothers in a state that has a budget surplus. Would she want low income teenage mothers to receive the same pre-natal care that her daughter will receive
Can you ask her about comments from John McCain and others that Alaska being near Russia a qualification to be commander in chief? Has she had dealings with the Russian government and if so on what issues.
And Charlie, your comment that her husband’s involvement with the Alaska Independence Party are a non-issue should really be examined. Gov. Palin videotaped a welcome greeting to the group and if Joe Biden or Barack Obama had done the same I believe you would be asking that question.

Posted by: johnny hardwick | September 8, 2008, 3:01 pm 3:01 pm
Please do not allow Charlie Gibson’s upcoming interview with Sarah Palin to become another softball-throwing fluff piece. There is a lot we as a voting nation need to learn about this potential presidential replacement, and a People magazine -style human interest story is not what is needed or deserved.
For instance:
- Will she push Congress to enact meaningful legislation to rein in the devastating and self-serving corporate control over our government?
- Would she pursue invading or bombing Iran as a means of dealing with them?
- What is her position on Cheney and his gang’s creation of the imperial
presidency? Does she consider any or all of it unconstitutional? Will she
pursue reversal of their policies?
- What is her position on the Bush administration’s frequent use of executive privilege and signature letters to avoid being held accountable for their actions?

Charlie:
Please ask the following of Governor Palin:
1) What is her position on dealing with North Korea?
2) Her church reportedly hosts a “Pray the Gay Away” event to convert homosexuals with prayer; does she believe in and support such efforts?
3) Regarding guns and since she is a gun owner herself, how does she reconcile the relatively easy access of AK47 and other automatic weapons?
4) Name three things with which she does NOT agree with the Bush administration.
5) Would she advocate against using ANY form of stem cell research — even cells which are going to be disposed of — even if she knew it would lead to cures for illnesses like Alzheimer’s, Downs Syndrome and Parkinson’s?
6) Does she feel gays and lesbians deserve the exact same civil rights as those afforded a married straight couple, including tax benefit or legal rights to visit a loved one in a hospital?
7) Does she feel the government should have the right to listen in on people’s telephone calls or save or read their emails, without a warrant, as a tool against possible terrorists?
8) Will she commit to running a campaign and administration that is entirely free of all current or past political lobbyists?
Thank you

If Charlie Gibson fails to do his job as a journalist
I’m going to have a hard time watching ABC News again. It’s that important all of these questions posted here by people who care get answered. Or at least asked to the person who has refused to answer them so far.

Governor Palin, you have clearly stated that you have done no wrong and welcome the investigation regarding the firing of Walt Monegan, why are your attorneys and those of the McCain-Palin campaign working to derail the investigation on technicalities and why have you and your aides refused to appear before Mr. Branchflower as he investigates the allegations?
Posted by: DefendOurConstitution | September 8, 2008, 3:11 pm 3:11 pm
Has the McCain campaign given you the questions yet? Or are they just sure they don’t need to bother?
Posted by: Youdontfoolme | September 8, 2008, 3:12 pm 3:12 pm
Charlie, you sure have a tough job deciding what questions to ask from all that have been proposed. I am most interested in her foreign policy views, especially since John McCain jokes about “bomb, bomb Iran.” He also said he looked forward to the day Fidel Castro meets Karl Marx in hell. These kinds of radical remarks scare me. Does she share his flippant views?
Does she plan a visit to WV with her gun…a la Charlton Heston?
I, too, am interested in her educational background…why six colleges in six years? How did a middle-class family support this hip-hopping…from ID to HI to AK, etc.
This may be too personal, but I question the judgment of a 44-year-old woman opting not to use birth control when she already had four children and an ambition for higher office in politics.
I’m not being mean-spirited, but I really want to know how this woman thinks and makes decisions for herself before she begins making them for me and my family.
Thank you.

Mr. Gibson, please ask:
“What are your views on birth control?”
“What are your views on abortion and choice?”
“What are your views on sex education?”
“What are your views on the gay community and gay rights, such as adoption?”
“What are your views on global warming and how to combat it?”
“You claim to be against earmarks, yet you hired a lobbyiest while you were mayor of Wasilla and got $3000 per person in earmark funding. Please explain this.”
“When you became Mayor of Wasilla, why did you demand resignation from your top staff as a sign of loyalty?”
“How is it that Hillary Clinton is “whiney” (as said by you on tape) when she cried out at the press attention, yet you are simply defending yourself when you refrain from talking to the press for longer than any other vice-presidential candidate?”
“When did McCain actually tap you for the vice-presidential nomination?”
“How did Bristol’s pregnancy affect your decision to accept the vice-presidential nomination?”
That’s a starter list. Please ask these things sir. America deserves the truth about these things.

Here’s the question I’d like asked:
You supported taxing oil profits in Alaska to provide payments to Alaska residents, yet you are opposed to a federal oil windfall profits tax. Why is it OK to tax profits in Alaska to benefit Alaskans, but not OK for the federal government to tax windfall profits so the rest of us can obtain some relief from rising oil prices?
Here’s the questions he will ask:
How are you coping?
Is your family holding up to all the pressure?
All the women of America want to know – where do you get your eyeglasses?
Is it cold in Alaska?
Was it fun being a hockey mom?
If your team was losing 2-1, with how many minutes left would you pull the goalie?
Anyway, you get the point. We all know you were picked for this because you wouldn’t ask any tough questions. You must be so proud! But hope springs eternal – maybe you’ll prove us all wrong.

1. Why did you lie about being against the Bridge to Nowhere during your convention speech?
2. Why did you mock Barack Obama’s work as a community organizer (especially when it was happened two decades ago while the man was still in his twenties?) Don’t you realize that your cutting remark smacks of racism?
3. What are the major differences between Shi’ite and Sunni muslims? Can you name three countries (besides Iraq!) that these groups reside in?
4. Your church recently hosted a speaker who claimed that Israel was being punished with attacks because Jews have not accepted Jesus as their savior? What are your personal views on Israel, and what do you think its role will be when the “End of Days” comes?
5. Don’t you think that even inquiring about banning books from the local library could be construed as unconstitutional?
6. Why had you never left the country before last year? While many Americans may not have passports, surely it is the bare minimum for a VP candidate of the United States of America to have at least traveled to Europe and Latin America, if not elsewhere. Otherwise, how can we expect you to speak intelligently to foreign leaders?
7. What do you think of George W. Bush? He is currently experiencing the highest disapproval ratings of any American president in history. Why do you think this is?

The AIP wants Alaska to secede from the US. What do you think about this position?
Isn’t it anti-American for an individual to want to break apart the United States?
Isn’t it anti-American to want to break away from the US when you have a great deal of oil that the US is dependent on?
Even if it’s your husband who is a member, why did you congratulate them by video at a recent major event they threw.?
Do you know the American Nazi party also endorses AIP. How do you feel being supportive of a party endorsed by the Nazis?
These are not personal off limit questions, they have everything to do with the ethics of the person who wants to run our country. Please be sure to ask why it is ok to consider breaking the US apart?

Gov Palin -
Do you feel that we are in the “End Times” as do many Christians? Do you believe, as does McCain endorser John Hagee, that the so-called anti-Christ is currently alive and walking the Earth? If so, how would such beliefs influence your decisions as vice president and possibly president?

It has been reported that at church services at your church- there was a speaker from ‘Jews for Jesus,’ who indicated that Israel was suffering-and would suffer- from relentless attacks because they are not believers in Jesus Christ. I have been told you recently changed churches so that you could say that your church(your new church) is mainstream and not be bogged down with the more fringe beliefs that were espoused by the pastor of and the members of the congregation to which you formerly belonged.
How long have you been with your current church? How long had you attended your former church? What were the basic tenets of your former church in regard to separation of church and state and the role of other religions in the lives of Americans?

All I want is to have Gibson ask REAL questions, like:
How come you and your husband were members and supporters of the anti-American Alaska Independence Party?
Why did you support Ted Stevens and his “bridge to nowhere” and then lie about your previous support of both?
Why does your pregnant teenage daughter have a choice between keeping her baby or having an abortion while you want to deny every other woman in America that same choice?
Why won’t you release the emails concerning the troopergate story?
Why is your preacher allowed to say America will be damned by God while Obama was roasted by the media when HIS former preacher made a similar remark?
You supported the conversion of gays by your church, positing the opinion that a person “chooses” to be gay. If that is what you and your church truly believe, please tell us the exact year, day, hour and minute that you chose to be straight.
What books did you try to have banned from the Alaska Public Library system, and what was your reason for trying to do so?
You recently said the Iraq War was ordained by God. If so, Governor Palin, then why haven’t we won yet, and why did God allow nearly 5000 Americans to die in the conflict?
Just a few questions I would like to have asked, along with too many more to list, but I doubt if Charles Gibson will be able to ask them, since he will be too busy kissing John McCain all through this election campaign.

After the GOP took great pains to emphasize the beliefs and comments of one of Obama’s previous pastors, how should we approach analyzing the dominionist, hate-filled, anti-American beliefs coming from the pulpit of your own church? Beliefs that include forbidding all forms of birth control (not just an anti-choice stance), advocating war in the Middle East to hasten the Second Coming and considering all citizens of the United States who are not born-again Christian dominionists to be “illegal aliens.” Why did your pastor “damn America to hell,” a country you claim to want to lead?

Dear Mr. Gibson,
I think people have posted quite a few good questions, not that anyone of your experience needed any help any in the first place, and that is what concerns me.
As an experienced journalist you don’t need the public to help you craft an interview unless you are looking for a way out of asking the kind of pointed questions that obviously need to be answered.
We will have less than 60 days to learn about Gov. Palin and with the exception of the one debate, you may be the only time that the American people will have to hear her express her knowledge, opinions, and stands to the myriad issues that confront the this country.
We don’t need a puff piece, pretty pictures of moose hunts, photos of Palin playing basketball or posing in beauty pageants, we need focused questions that require a focused and precise answer.
That is all that I ask.
In closing, I would like to quote a old friend and journalist who once said to me, “O.V., journalism is the only business protected by a constitutional amendment. It isn’t just a business, it is a sacred trust.” And, I am going to hold you to that trust.

I AM VERY PUZZLED BY WHAT I’M READING ON SEVERAL BLOGS THAT YOU HAVE BEEN GRANTED THIS INTERVIEW BECAUSE THEY CAN COUNT ON YOU NOT TO BE TOUGH ON HER. Also, the setting of this 2-days interview is very peculiar. The American people need to know everything they can about this woman. Please ask her to define her qualifications to be commander-in-chief, about the earmarks she received as mayor and the lobbyst she hired to get them, about her flip-flopping on the Bridge to Nowhere and her religious and personal views about the Iraq war and Jewish and her economic plan for thepeople who have lost their job. There is so much to know about her. The American people are waiting and will be watching.

2. What short-term and long-term goals would you like to see the Iraq government achieve before any US troop withdrawal were to take place?
3. Why do you think God has a vested interest in whether or not Alaska gets a new pipeline?
4. Why do you support culling the wolf population so that they don’t compete with hunters? Don’t the needs of animals trump a human past-time?
5. Which world leaders had you met face-to-face before you were nominated?
6. Do you still believe that when the Rapture comes, the world will seek refuge in Alaska?
7. You have stated that it does women politicians no good when they “whine” about sexism. Will you tell your supporters to stop complaining about sexism just because the public wants to know who you are?
8. The US now has the worst teen pregnancy rate in the industrialized world, and STI’s are on the rise. Do you believe abstinence-only education works?
9. How come you and your daughter can “choose” to have your babies, but you don’t want the rest of America’s women to have a choice one way or another?
10. Why do you support tax cuts that will only substantially benefit the rich?

Charlie,
You lost so much credibility when you moderated the sham debate between Senators Obama and Clinton. This is your chance to redeem yourself – by asking tough questions of this inexperienced person who seeks to be a heartbeat away from the oldest president in history. Among many important topics to address are: the contradiction in the McCain-Palin tkt’s objection to earmarks and her town and state’s hogging of such federal gifts, confronting her with the explicit lies she stated about Senator Obama in her convention speech, a discussion of the limits and abuses of power and her understanding of the Constitution in that regard, how she would handle specific foreign policy crises – yes, be specific, Charlie – in the event that Mr McCain becomes incapacitated, how someone who believes in or encourages Alaska secession can be considered a patriot, specific questions about economic policy and health care policy, a discussion of her line-item veto of programs to support pregnant teens in Alaska, her positions on federal funding of prenatal care and teen pregnancy prevention.

He SHOULD ask her what data supports her belief in teaching abstinence only, and how well it’s worked for her own family. He should also ask why she thinks she’s ready to lead if she has to be COACHED for two weeks by the GOP and will only take scripted interviews. Does she think other world leaders are going to play nice with her, just like the conservative corporate media? What’s she afraid of and what is she hiding? How can she address America’s economic problems if she doesn’t even understand what Freddie and Fannie are? Palin is an absolute joke, and the thought of her as a leader in ANY country is idiotic in the extreme.

Governor:
You have asked that the press and the public provide your daughter, Bristol, a degree of privacy while she deals with the difficult decision to continue her pregnancy and enter into a new stage of life as a teenage mom. But you are pro-life and–given the opportunity–you would fight to overturn Roe v. Wade and criminalize abortion. As a result, many other young women would face the most extreme form of government intrusion into their decisions regarding unwanted pregnancies. Why is Bristol’s decision a private, family matter while the decisions of these other women are not?

As a member and speaker at ‘The Alaskan Independence Party’(Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s husband, Todd, twice registered as a member of the Alaskan Independence Party, a fierce states’ rights group that wants to turn all federal lands in Alaska back to the state.); Do you agree with it’s founders words: Alaska Party’s Founder: “I’ve Got No Use for America or Her Damned Institutions”. Yet. your husband is a member and you’ve spoken to the group. Why? Do you agree with founder Joe Vogler? Why should America trust you with our constitution; if members of your own family believe in seceding from the union?
The words of founder Joe Vogler are proudly displayed on the Alaska Independence Party’s website (at least as of this writing): “I’m an Alaskan, not an American. I’ve got no use for America and her damned institutions.”
Isn’t that un-American statement and wouldn’t that make your husband un-American?

I wish that ABC had not chosen to post these suggested questions on its website, since they have basically provided the McCain campaign with a primer for the interview. Also, the two day format is usually reserved for “celebrity” interviews, and makes it much more likely that her handlers will control the interview.
Perhaps that is a good place to start: Why does someone who is running for the second highest office in the country, and who could potentially become the leader of the free world, need to be tutored, sequestered and have interviews controlled by handlers? Will her handlers travel with her to the Middle East to negotiate a peace treaty?
Ask her why the potential VP/Pres of the US didn’t understand what Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac are. Does she begin to understand the dynamics, simple and comples, of the economy?
Also, ask her why “executive experience” whatever that is (perhaps she will define it for us), trumps intellect, judgement and temperment?
Lastly, I also have watched World News Tonight forever, but will stop if this interview turns out to be a “puff piece”. Please ask the woman substantive questions about policy. Now that McCain has made his cynical and strictly political choice, we MUST know whether she is even remotely qualified.

-You’re on record as favoring abstinence-only sex education. Has your teenage daughter’s pregnancy caused you to reconsider that stance?
-You went out of your way to conceal your pregnancy from your constituents in Alaska until one month before you gave birth. Do you think a vice president or president has the right to keep major information about his or her health from the public?
-Your views diverge from John McCain’s in several areas, most notably on global warming and on the question of whether abortion should be legal in cases of rape and incest. Given McCain’s advanced age and history of cancer, would you pledge to support policies of his that you disagreed with in the event of his death? Have you and he discussed the matter?
-Spokesmen for your campaign have argued with reports claiming your vetting process was highly abbreviated. Please clear up the confusion. When did vetting process begin? When was your first meeting with the head of McCain’s search committee?
-In your acceptance speech, you portrayed yourself as a reformer who battles earmarks and wasteful government spending. Yet as mayor of Wasilla, you aggressively solicited federal cash. How do you reconcile these positions?
-It’s been reported that as mayor you tried to have books banned from the town library. Please clarify exactly what happened. Between that and your media-bashing, is it safe to say you’re not as big on the First Amendment as you are on the Second?

What does she think of the current situation vis a vis Russia/Georgia/South Ossettia?
How should the occupation of Iraq come to a conclusion ?
What will the Rep. party do for the middle class ? How does she define “middle class” ? What will the effect of McCain’s proposed tax cuts be for us ?
How would she make college more affordable for Americans ?
What are her thoughts on job creation?
What office did she hold in the PTA ? What did she learn from that work?

Ask her if she know what the vice president does yet ?
Ask her if she knows what community organizers do yet ?
Ask her if she knows what the president does ? Just in case she had to step in and fill that role, that could be important.
Ask her to explain the difference in economic issues facing the lower 48 states versus the state of Alaska.

The press SHOULD interact with the general public and understand what they want to know. That’s kinda the whole idea.
“Sensing what the public needs to know” is what Goebbels did.

I am confused about oil. My understanding is that our biggest importer of oil is Canada, not the middle east. And that we actually sell most of the oil drilled on US soil to other countries. Why can’t we demand the oil companies sell the oil to our own country? How would more drilling in Alaska help us, if oil companies can turn around and sell that oil elsewhere anyway?

Some very good questions here!
My first question requires only a yes or no answer:
“Gov. Palin, do you support the Equal Rights Amendment?”
Followed by: “If not, why not?”

Will you be asking Sarah how to make Caribou Stew? Or how to field dress a Moose? Or how about her association with AIP, even though she has said she was never a member. Even though there is evidence out there that show that is a lie. Ask her how many lies she has told since she stepped off the plane in Ohio, because I have lost count. Ask her how she gets to decide what’s right for every woman in the country. What gives her that right??

Nice, so ABC News is posting Sarah Palin’s questions here publicly before her interview? I see this is going to be a cakewalk for her. ABC has been my choice for election coverage for years since I loved Peter Jennings before he fell ill. And might decition whether to switch to a different network depends on how I perceive the integrity of this interview.

I’d like Charlie to ask Palin why she allowed the speechwriters to humiliate and belittle public service, in her Convention speech? I’d like Charlie to ask her WHAT a community organizer does, and if she can name ONE. (hint: MLK was one.)
Also, I’d LOVE to know why ABC and other media outlets are treating Palin like a FIRST LADY or CHILD of a candidate. Palin’s handlers are being allowed to walk her through the media, and shield her from scrutiny, as though she is not really a party to the election, but something more suitable for the cover of Ladies Home Journal. If she were a man, would the campaign be allowed to dictate one interview with a hand-selected tv personality? Hillary Clinton sat down with Richard Mellon Scaife (a man that spent years and millions trying to take her down), and the Board of the newspaper he owns. I would LOVE to see Palin grant that kind of access.. but it won’t happen. My question for Palin is “If you are trying to run as though you’re some pit bull, then why are you hiding behind your handlers and acting like a first lady?”
This is only the potential Leader of the Free World we’re talking about. No softball questions.

President Bush and Senator Obama both support Community Organizing.
In the United States starting in 2001, the Bush Administration launched a department to promote community organizing of this type, which included faith-based organizing as well other community groups.
Question: Why would you, Gov. Palin, sneer and jeer at Senator Obama’s efforts at community organizing and not the president’s efforts?
President Bush Attends Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives’ National Conference
June 2008 -
Omni Shoreham Hotel Washington, D.C.
Fact Sheet: Faith-Based and Community Initiatives: Delivering Help and Hope to Millions at Home and Around the World
12:59 P.M. EDT
“THE PRESIDENT: Thank you very much. Please be seated. (Applause.) How beautiful was that? From being a homeless mother of two to introducing the President of the United States. (Applause.) There has to be a higher power. I love being with members of the armies of compassion, foot soldiers in helping make America a more hopeful place. Every day you mend broken hearts with love. You mend broken lives with hope. And you mend broken communities with countless acts of extraordinary kindness.
Groups like yours have harnessed a power that no government bureaucracy can match. So when I came to Washington, my goal was to ensure that government made you a full partner in our efforts to serve those in need. And the results have been uplifting. And that’s what we’re here to talk about today. It’s an opportunity to celebrate your achievements, to thank you for your life-changing work, and to look ahead to ways that you will extend your record of compassion in the years to come…. more… ”
Does Sarah Palin disagree with the Republican President George Bush?
Or is she just being sarcastic and untruthful when it comes to Senator Obama’s efforts at Community organizing and how is Community Organizing a ‘BAD THING’?

H) Did she ever take earmarks from Washington D.C.

And lastly please explain to me and the American public why she is so afraid to do interviews and whatever in the world

What is your net worth? Aside from yours and your husband’s salaries, what if any other sources of income do you have? Are you currently invested in any energy companies?
You inherited a state with a large budget surplus which is getting larger due to the increasing price of oil. You may inherit a country with a large and growing debt. What in your wide executive experience has prepared you to handle this type of financial situation? How are you going to fund the needed repairs in the federal infrastructure – roads, bridges, levees – while maintaining the levels of commitment Bush and Cheney have made on our behalf in Iraq, Afghanistan and now Georgia?
Alaska receives over $1.80 in federal payments for every dollar it pays in taxes. Alaska receives the largest amount of federal spending per capita. Yet there are other states, such as New York and California, that receive less than a dollar back for every one they send Washington. How do you plan to address this disparity?
Aside from the Middle East, what do you consider the top three potential world trouble spots in the next decade, and why? What are the U.S. interests in these regions, and what should be done to protect them?
While the Midwest was hit by major floods this summer, other areas of the country are facing drought. What environmental crises have you faced in your previous experience? How will you propose the McCain administration deal with climate change?
The US is rapidly losing its edge in high tech. The number of Americans receiving advanced degrees in science and technology is decreasing. But you advocate letting parents decide what science will be taught to their children. How will the McCain administration regain America’s scientific and technological edge?
If the worst happens and you do become president, what qualities will you seek in your vice-president? Give an example of how you’ve chosen appointees in your previous positions

Mr. Gibson, please do not forget, it’s not just the questions first asked, but the follow up questions that are always necessary. You can ask the most hard hitting first question but if you allow Gov. Palin to spew rehearsed talking points that will most likely have nothing to do with the original question without steering her back on topic and repeatedly asking her to answer the question then this is worse than an exercise in futility and becomes a Republican infomercial. I would ask that you give equal time to Sen. Biden next week.

Dear Mr. Gibson,
As a long time viewer of GMA, I trust you to treat Sarah Palin with warmth and respect, while asking questions that deal with the issues. After reading several of the other comments, many are hoping you will slice her up and serve her for dinner, but, I know you will be a true professionl and not allow personal ideology to enter into your interview.
All of the candidates should be held accountable for answering the voters truthfully with respect to the issues and their opponents. The dirty games turn so many of the voters off. Factcheck has disputed comments made by Obama, McCain and Palin…they all stretch the truth, and should be aware that the voters are doing their homework.
Financial analysts have questioned the feasibility of both parties plans to help middle class Americans, while balancing the budget.
My question:
How much pork spending do you think can be eliminated from the federal budget?
Posted by: Judy | September 8, 2008, 7:09 pm 7:09 pm
If some of the posters on here did their own homework, half of the questions being asked would be answered.
Do your homework, people!

I do not have a question for Sarah Palin. I am sure Mr. Gibson will do well in the interview. My question is for the Obama supporters who appear to have made most of the suggestions. It is: Why have you not asked the media to pose these same types of questions to Senator Obama? ANd, some of your proposed questions are based upon inaccuracies recently put forth in various venues. So, how do you think these should be dealt with?
On energy: Do any of you know how many acres of land are needed for each wind turbine? I think you should look into that.

These are the three questions:
1. Clearly you have to learn a lot on the job if you win. You went to 6 colleges in 6 years and got a B.A. in journalism without receiving any honors or working with any student media.
Will you release your final transcripts of your grades from each of these 6 collegs?
2. In what ways would a McCain/Palin administration be different from the last 8 years of Bush/Cheney?
3. Your candidate, John McCain, emphaized his experience as a POW in Vietnam. He claimed to have been tortured while in captivity.
Currently, we have hundreds of alleged enemy combatants detained at a Guantanamo Bay prison camp. Some would say they are prisoners of war, just like John McCain was.
How should we treat prisoners of our own wars, and how do you define “torture”?

Gov. Palin was quoted in an AP story about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac — “At a rally in Colorado Springs, Col., Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin said, “They’ve gotten too big and too expensive to the taxpayers. The McCain-Palin administration will make them smaller and smarter and more effective for homeowners who need help.”
Based on that answer, it appears that Gov. Palin has no idea what Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac do.
Please ask her simple questions –
What is the purpose of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac?
Why are they important to homeowners with mortgages?
Why was the rescue necessary?
How will the McCain administration raise money to pay for the rescue?

Mr. Gibson: here’s a conversation with Governor Palin that would be educating:
You and Senator McCain have been elected to be the next President and Vice-President of the United States, and are sworn in; it’s February 2009.
The Country is more deeply divided than its ever been. Unemployment is at a record high; food, housing, utility, college, and health care costs have soared beyond most Americans ability to absorb them. Iraq’s fragile government has collasped and US troops’ deaths there and in Afghastan incrase dramatically.
President McCain suffers a fatal illness and you are now the President.
Russian ships advance within striking distance of American soil; China is demanding immediate payment of overdue loan payments; the dollar has plummeted to a record low. A major earthquake hits Alaska.
Sarah Palin, what would your response be to these multiple disasterous situations? Who would you rely on to advise you? I ask this because in all your somewhat braggart statements about all the things you’ve done in such a short time, I’ve never heard you thank anyone else for their support and help that’s led to your rise to fame. One can only assume you can make all decisions without help. Is this true?

The nutroots are out in force.
Most of these questions fall into three categories:
- personal slanders and supposed “gaffes” that have already been answered and/or debunked, but continue to be passed around by the Kos about “fired librarians” who were not fired, and claiming to have “sold” the plane on ebay when all she said was it was put on ebay, which is absolutely truthful. Ever since their party’s favorite serial philanderer parsed the word “is” to escape a sexual harassment in the workplace lawsuit, this kind of bizarre nitpicking has been rampant on the left, but only towards those on the right.
- questions that require insanely complex knowledge that nobody would be able to answer, not even The One, like “identify the nine naval chokepoints around the globe and briefly discuss the importance of each, as well as consequences if any or all were to become blocked.” Are you serious? I doubt if the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs could give an answer to that off the top of his head.
- Mike Wallace “gotcha” questions with firmly implanted premises along the line of “has your husband stopped beating baby seals to death yet?”, or why is she opposed to granting polar bears endangered species status when their numbers have been growing for decades?
The abject pathological hatred these kooks show for anyone who disagrees with them or their Messiah is absolutely astounding and totally pathetic. The right to vote should be premised on passing a psychological test. The Republicans would win with 90% of the vote.

Many here are basing these incredibly insulting “questions” on rumors which have been disproven. She didn’t “slash funding for teen mothers” in Alaska. She RAISED it. She did not try to ban any books– that list which has been circulating the Internet is a fake. She does not want Alaska to secede from the Union. Her Fan-Fred comments were taken completely out of context. Start getting your information from somewhere other than the Huffington Post and Daily Kos. “Who wrote your acceptance speech,” seriously? And… “naval chokepoints,” are you kidding? Like you’ve asked ANY of this of Biden or Obama? Or, for that matter, Hillary Clinton during the primaries? Why not ask Gibson to demand of Obama, “Senator, you once mentioned that America has 57 states. How many states do you really think are in the union?”
If I were Sen. Obama, I would be embarrassed to have you as my supporters. Thanks to the atrocious, double-standard behavior by the press and some of my fellow citizens, I’ve gone from not caring at all about this election to volunteering for McCain. Way to go, Obama supporters. You’ve really shown your true selves with this Palin situation– and won a vote for your opponent.

Governor Palin, as you know the constitutional duties of the Vice President are rather minimal, and you have been quoted as saying that you’d need to have some explanation as to what the vice president’s duties would be before accepting a nomination. in re naval choke points: given that service in the senate brings with it a generally high level of sophistication on national security and international affairs, I can presume that Sen. Biden, Clinton, and Obama would all be competent on the issue. I would like to know that Gov Palin recognizes the significance of a naval choke point such as the Strait of Hormuz before it is blocked in contravention of international law. In other words, that she wouldn’t be merely learning on the job—at potentially at my expense.

The McCain campaign has said it would only allow Governor Palin to be interviewed by reporters who showed “respect and deference”. Remember when you sit down with her that this is a republic and you are interviewing a candidate for vice-president – not the Queen of England.
The citizens of the United States deserve a media that will hold elected officials accountable. The framers of the Consitituion knew this when they wrote the First Amendment.

I’m terribly sad reading some of these “questions.” I cannot believe how nasty some of these people are, basing their “questions” on rumors which are patently untrue (like the “book banning” stuff– she never asked for any books to be banned!) If this is how people decide who to vote for, I’m very frightened.
I don’t understand why so many of you are so incredibly mean and hateful. Sarah Palin has done nothing to you. (As some of you state, she is “an unknown”– so why are you so furious? You don’t even know her, so how can you hate her?) You may disagree with her politically, but there is no need to insult her as you are here. That gets nothing done. Everyone’s just shouting at each other.
Also, I’m pretty sure Charlie Gibson knows how to do his job without the rest of you telling him. As if he’s eagerly scrolling through this list– “The American people want us to ask her about the leading political opposition leaders for Zimbabwe and Burma! Write that down!” Come on.

Charlie,
Please ask Mrs. Palin how much time did she and her staff spend on blogs to gather intelligence on the questions that she might be asked during the upcoming interview. Also, ask if based on the most recent revelations about her inaccuracies of her personal life, professional positions and political goals is it that she has problems with remembering her position on issues or is she just a woman who will tell whatever lie needs to be told to advance her cause. Finally, ask her how that abstinence only position is working for her? Not many women can become a mom and a grandma in the same year and have it looked upon favorably.

The steady decline of the economy and the value of the dollar against the euro since Bush’s major tax cut appears to belie that contention. How do you plan to balance the budget while taking in less revenue? What was the total amount of earmarks in the 2008 budget? What percentage of the budget was taken by earmarks?

Instead of asking her the obvious abortion questions, I think it would be useful to dig deeper:
Governor Palin,
On what constitutional basis do you believe Roe v. Wade should be overturned? Do you side with those conservatives who say that the decision is wrong because there is no “Right to Privacy” in the Constitution? If so, would you overturn all of the Supreme Court’s “privacy” precedent (going back to Griswold v. Connecticut), such that states may legislate, for example, the use of condoms between married couples, or sexual choices in the bedroom between married couples?

Mr. Gibson,
If you’re going to ask any of the many “gotcha” questions proposed above, please don’t make a fool of yourself by asking one of the many that are based on false, already-discredited premises.
How about “Governor Palin, what is your reaction to all the accusative questions and disrespectful assertions regarding your qualifications when those assume a standard for you that is not applied to the other party’s candidate for president (or, for that matter, its Speaker of the House, only two heartbeats away from the presidency)?

Are you ready to lose your family nest for the VP position? Do you know that your Down syndrome baby could get heart problems or any problem and multiple hospitalizations during his first 4 year of life? Are you ready to stop a world travel due to international crisis or national crisis to be with him as needed.

Who does the 49th Missile Defense Battalion directly report and why was it decided to man the interceptor defense system with the Alaskan National Guard?
2. Approximately 3,000 people have died from terrorist attacks in the US in the last 7 years. Tragic yes, but consider this. According to the US Centers for Disease Control, more than 400,000 people die prematurely every year from smoking related illneses. That is equivalent to one major US city every year– dead and gone. Tobacco is a WMD.
In addition, smoking related illnesses costs the US economy over $90 billion dollars in lost productivity.
My question is this– Why are we not waging a war on tobacco?

Two questions:
“At least 200,000 Iraqi children have died as a result of the US invasion. Does it bother you that, statistically speaking, about 200 of these dead children had Down Syndrome?”
“John McCain is celebrated as a hero for being captured on a mission to bomb children. You are seen as a hero for not aborting your own child. Of course, we have to take into account the facts that the children McCain was bombing were gooks, and that the child you spared was not female, but don’t you think this suggests that your supporters are hypocrits?”

Now that its been revealed that Todd Palin is copied on emails concerning AK state business, attends cabinet meetings, and even goes on “fact gathering” junkets representing the Governor and the State it is completely reasonable to ask Sarah Palin about his involvement in a political party (AIP) that considers secession from the US to be an option, whose slogan says “Alaska First” (not Country First) and is founded by a man who often expressed his “hatred for the American government” and its “damn flag”.
These are most certainly question that would be asked of Obama if they were related to his spouse (in fact they would have already led the news multiple nights by now), so to not ask them of Palin is extremely biased, particularly considering Todd has been functioning in a semi-official capacity within his wife’s administration.

I agree that some of these comments are too detail oriented. We need her actual position on the issues such as the economy, loss of jobs, abortion (even if some of us do know it, it should be made plain for those who do not), how should the United States respond to the Georgian crisis and possible future Russian aggression in that area of the world. She made a point of the need recognize Russia’s threat to oil and gas pipelines in the area – what would she do if such a threat materialized. How does she define the “War On Terror” and how does Iraq fit into that war? Everyone needs to remember that she and Joe Biden could be a heartbeat away from the presidency and their finger on the nuclear botton. This is simply too serious a matter to leave to pundits, spinmisters, the popular journalism that did not aggressively question the basic permises of the Irag War, and partisan loudmouths on either side. Finally, I learned with some regret that this interview will be over two days in Alaska. Please do not let her (or Biden if you do something similar for him)answer something, go back and get their information from their handlers (who will be present whether is Palin or Biden) and at the next interview seek to set the record straight by mouthing some handler material. Still, even after this interview, regardless how it goes, she needs to hit the Sunday talk show circuit just like the other 3 candidates have done. Until, she is let loose to go through what her fellow candidates have done, suspicion about her readiness will remain. One final note, please do not get trapped in the political horse race and her impact on it. We will only know that come election day and I, for one, do not want to hear a lot of handicapping nor partisan junk. Since so little is know about her, we deserve to know her positions and qualifications. For the Obama and McCain bashers out there, we do know these issues for them thanks to a terribly long campaign. You may or may not like or support either one or both, but, if you have been paying attention, you can not say you do not know their qualifications and positions. the problem with Governor Palin is that we do not know very much beyond what the campaigns are spinning on her. That has to stop if we really believe that an informed electorate is vital to our Republic.

Will you vote for his opponent? Will you urge Alaskans to help you change Washington and vote him out of office? If not, why not?

Since you are such a respected journalist it is imperative that you ask the tough questions so that the voters can make a choice. My main concern is that this interview could easily become some sort of infomercial for Paylin. It seems awfully gratuitous, if I understand the timing correctly, to interview Paylin in Alaska, over several days, including 9/11 on the day her son ships off to Iraq. Obviously, the McCain campaign is less interested in her being seriously interviewed than using Charlie Gibson/ABC to give them a free hour of advertising. Any other candidate would be required to sit down in a room and answer tough questions rather than be coddled by the press.

Please ask her the same hard-hitting questions that would and will be asked of Mr. Biden. Ask her if she totally believes in the separation of church and state. Please ask her if she has ever spoken in tongues. Also, please ask her how long her and her husband were members of the Alaska Independence Party and ask her to explain what that organization stands for. I would like Paylin to account for The Washington Post’s expose of her charging the people of Alaska for $707 hotel rooms on travel and charging them a per diem to be paid to stay 312 nights in her own home. Their defense seems to be that she charges less than the previous governor but if he was so crooked, of course hers will be less but is still not justifiable.

Historically Senator McCain has NOT supported equal pay for equal work, so as a woman do you believe he is correct in his position?
Some have argued that it is hypocritical of you and your family to have “decided” (i.e. have a free choice) to keep your teen daughters baby BUT at the same time want to overturn legislation that grants that very same ‘decision’ to other families with different background and religious views from your own. How do you justify your decision to deny others this ‘decision’ even though they might have radically different views on the matter?
If legislation where drafted to over turn the separation of church and state would you support it?

Charlie,
You have an incredibly important task, you are the one person who has the opportunity to help reveal if Sarah Palin should be a potential leader of the free world. The long-term future of our country could be on the line with the decision that Americans make in this election. Many seem to be basing their decision on Sarah Palin. Yet, Palin has been shielded from media questioning and the only words we’ve heard are brazen claims from her about herself and shortcomings of Sen. Obama. Frankly, these appear to be untruths (OK, lies) and she repeats them over and over shamelessly and with glee. I fear that the media so afraid of being sexist (or offending the right-wing) that they won’t hold her accountable for these lies. Can we have a potential president who is so comfortable stretching the truth? (many of us can’t take another). PLEASE DON’T MAKE THIS A SOFTBALL INTERVIEW. The country deserves more. If she gives another false response, please follow up.
The following claims seem to be disengenuous or false. Please ask:
– “I said thanks but no thanks to Bridge to nowhere”: What? she campaigned on this at first before the political pushback and only then changed her mind. Alaska still got the money.
– Say no to special interests and lobbyists. WRONG. She hired a lobbyist and received $27 million for her very small town as a result. Much higher than average per capita in US.
– I fired the cook. She rehired her in other capacities, but the woman still cooks. This is very misleading. A lie?
– I cut costs and turned down perks for myself. Now revealed that she billed taxpayers 312 nights for time in her own house! Daughter and husband $43,000?!
– Obama never passed any legislation not even in Illinois. Lie. He has passed numerous pieces of legislation.
Other issues:
Abuse of power:
Tried to fire librarian as Palin wanted to CENSOR books.
Fired boss of ex-brother-in-law for not firing him
I think minimum standards for a potential president is trust that the leader tells the truth. If she lies about these things, what about matters of the country?

In a recent interview with Maria Bartiromo of CNBC (as reported in Business Week, pg. 18, Sept.15,2008), Palin said: “We are a nation at war and in many (ways) the reasons for war are fights over energy sources”.
Does Palin believe that the Iraq war is a war over OIL? Isn’t that contrary to the Bush-McCain concept that this is part of the war on terror? Has she changed her opinion now that she is a VP candidate?

Given her daughter’s pregnancy, how can she defend abstinence-only teaching? Can anyone consider it responsible to teach this to teenagers when AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases are to be considered?
How can she defend banning books? What possible reason can she have for this?
If global warming isn’t due to humans, what is to blame? Animals? Aliens? Is drilling for oil worth putting the earth and creatures at risk?
Does the Republican party actually believe woman who supported Hillary Clinton will vote for Palin? The only think they have in common is the fact that they’re female. 2- She said the war and, the oil pipeline were God’s will. What does the seperation of church and, state mean to her?

4-Does she belive creationism is a legitimate branch of science?

6-How many lobbyist did she hire for her ‘small town’ and, with 27 million secured for that town. Why then when you left, was there a substantial deficit?
7- When you said your daughter decided to have your child, doesn’t that imply choice? So how can you deny other women a choice.
8-Leaders from the seperatist Alaska movement say you were a member before they said you were not. Which is it? Your husband did belong to it for many years. They espouse radical anti american beliefs that you have not denounced. How do you justify your and, your husbands support?

Mr. Gibson,
May I suggest the following tack when interviewing Governor Palin?
“Since the most important qualification of the Vice Presidency, and what is foremost in most people’s minds, is the ability to take over for an incapacitated President, I’d like you to respond as if you were running for President.”
I think this will avoid her hiding behind Senator McCain’s protection, and reveal more honest and direct answers.

Why were you critical of Hillary Clinton for “whining” about the press being sexist and yet within days of your nomination, you made the same claim?
Name something you would have done differently regarding Iraq.
Since you are the closest state to Russia and this has been cited as your critical foreign policy experience by the McCain campaign, can you name an interaction with Russia? Have you ever been to Russia?
Although your travel budget IS significantly less than the previous governer’s of Alaska, is it really reform when you expect the state to pay for your children’s travel? I work for the federal government and travel extensively, can I submit per diem claims for my children too? Is this something only mothers can do or are fathers given this same right?
If you are so concerned about your children’s privacy, why do you bring them to public events and define your qualifications in terms of your motherhood?
What specific policies do you intend to push (if any) to allow all nursing women the opportunity to nurse/pump in their work environment?

People are asking if your latest child is even yours. People claim you didn’t put the governor’s jet on ebay, when in fact you did.
Sarah- how do you cope with all of these accusation, when no one asked Joe Biden if his kids were “really his”? Or if Joe Biden could be Vice President and still be a father?

As an Alaskan I sure hope you do not ask anything about life in Alaska. Gov. Palin will have the best stage in America and it could not be a more biased setting for her first interview.
Please do ask “What is the toughest or most contraversial decision you have made as a governor or mayor”
Ask how being governor in a state awash in oil revenue poses any hard decisions. Alaskans have all the money they need and the state budget continues to grow even with her line-item vetos. How is that fiscally conservative?
Why give back $1200 to all Alaskans even though it is really the rural communities that are suffering from high fuel costs? Is this a way to buy reelection and an 80% approval rating.
Ask the hard questions so all Americans know about this woman’s policies and views.

In the election process, I think of my vote as that potential job offer. I won’t be interviewing Governor Palin but you will. I would like you to ask her this question for me. “Governor Pain, if you become Vice President and the President dies, or becomes incapacitated and is unable to perform his duties, you will become the President of the United States. I’m curious as to Gov. Palin’s response to the mothers/fathers out there that critize her choice to run as V.P., saying she should be focusing on her family, especially considering that her youngest child has Downs Syndrome and her oldest is expecting.
I personally support her all the way. I believe, maybe naively, that she is doing this to better the future of our country for her kids and her grandchildren. For crying out loud, that’s how she got to where she is today.

Did she expect the extreme response, both positive and negative, that has come with her elevation to the ticket? How is her family adapting to life in the spotlight?
Secondly, I’d like to know her views on nuclear energy, a cornerstone of her running mate’s energy policy. What does she think of this particular plank of the “do everything” McCain plan? Also, having negotiated that natural gas pipeline deal, what does she think of T. Boone Picken’s energy plan that calls for using natural gas for automobiles?

What specifically will be your role as Vice President in a McCain administration?
A few months ago you stated that you had not seriously thought about the details of the Iraq War. Why had you not thought about it at that point, and why should Americans trust your judgment on foreign policy?
You call yourself a fiscal conservative, yet as governor you both raised taxes and increased spending. What exactly is your philosophy on taxes and spending? When is appropriate to raise taxes or cut taxes, to increase spending or reduce spending?
What are the essential elements of the McCain health care plan?
What is the proper role of the federal government in improving education?
What are the critical factors in improving our economy, and how will a McCain administration address these factors? How is McCain’s economic policy significantly different from the economic policy of the Bush administration?
An independent analysis showed that 80% of Americans would receive an average of four times more in tax cuts under the Obama tax plan than under the McCain tax plan. Why is your tax plan better for most Americans than Obama’s tax plan?
Part of leadership is not only reacting to issues, but foreseeing and dealing with issues before they become critical. What are some national issues that most people aren’t thinking about right now, but that you foresee as being important to the future of the United States, and what would you do to address those issues?

2) In your acceptance speech you mentioned that Senator Obama is too concerned about reading to our enemies their rights. Is this how you would approach foreign affairs?
3) You have been chosen as the VP candidate for more than 10 days now. Why have you been avoiding the press? Your campaign says that you will not have interviews with the press until you are “treated with deference”. Do you believe you should be treated differently from Biden, Obama, Clinton, and McCain?
Please ask the hard questions. This election is too important. Think about your standing as a journalist with integrity rather than just your standing with the Republian Party.

Please verify! From an email circulating from a resident of her home town:
CLAIM VS FACT
•social conservative: mixed. Opposes gay marriage, BUT vetoed a bill that would have denied benefits to employees in same-sex relationships (said she did this because it was unconsitutional).
•pro-creationism: mixed. Supports it, BUT did nothing as Governor to promote it.
•”Pro-life”: mixed. Knowingly gave birth to a Down’s syndrome baby BUT declined to call a special legislative session on some pro-life legislation
•”Experienced”: Some high schools have more students than Wasilla has residents. Many cities have more residents than the state of Alaska. No legislative experience other than City Council. Little hands-on supervisory or managerial experience; needed help of a city administrator to run town of about 5,000.
•political maverick: not at all
•gutsy: absolutely!
•open & transparent: ??? Good at keeping secrets. Not good at explaining actions.
•has a developed philosophy of public policy: no
•”a Greenie”: no. Turned Wasilla into a wasteland of big box stores and disconnected parking lots. Is pro-drilling off-shore and in ANWR.
•fiscal conservative: not by my definition!
•pro-infrastructure: No. Promoted a sports complex and park in a city without a sewage treatment plant or storm drainage system. Built streets to early 20th century standards.
•pro-tax relief: Lowered taxes for businesses, increased tax burden on residents
•pro-small government: No. Oversaw greatest expansion of city government in Wasilla’s history.
•pro-labor/pro-union. No. Just because her husband works union doesn’t make her pro-labor. I have seen nothing to support any claim that she is pro-labor/pro-union.

I would like to know how Gov. Palin thinks that it is fair and appropriate for a person, no matter his or her qualifications, who is known to only one quarter of one percent of the U.S. population up until two months before the election to be selected as a candidate for the second-most powerful position on the planet. How can the American people possibly get to know enough about her fitness for office beyond the campaign rhetoric. Don’t the American Idol contestants get better vetting?

Science underlies just about every major problem and opportunity facing America. Unfortunately, many government scientists report political interference in their job. Is it acceptable for elected officials to hold back or alter scientific reports if they conflict with their own views, and how will you balance scientific information with politics and personal beliefs in your decision-making?

One of the first major, important decisions a presidential candidate must make is his (or her) selection of VP – an individual whom s/he trusts to be BEST qualified to run the country if something should happen to him/her. In your opinion, when John McCain chose YOU over all of the other Republican women at his disposal, did he choose the person BEST qualified to step into the presidency? Please give a DETAILED explanation for your answer.
