Sarah Palin Meets World Leaders — Reporters Kept Away?

ABC’s Kate Snow from New York:  There’s a battle going on right now over how the networks will be allowed to cover Sarah Palin’s big day of visits in NY with world leaders. Palin is scheduled to meet with Afghan President Hamid Karzai shortly, followed by Colombian President Alvaro Uribe and then with McCain advisor, former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger. The networks had arranged for a "pool" camera- one camera to cover the meetings, whose video would be pooled or shared with all networks. Such arrangements are standard when dealing with intimate high-level meetings between leaders and candidates. But typically, along with cameras, there is an editorial presence– at least one print reporter, one TV reporter and one radio reporter is standard. Today, the McCain campaign had said it would allow only one editorial person inside. Now, the campaign is saying it wants only the camera inside with no editorial presence. All of the networks are objecting. Stay tuned. 11:30 AM Update:  The networks have voted to BAN any use of the photographs/video in protest. 12 Noon:  Word has come in that a CNN producer WILL be allowed to accompany the camera at these meetings.  This issue appears to be resolved.

When will journalists begin to be outraged by this manipulation of the press. Our country is in crisis and the McCain campaign has selected someone as the VP nominee who they will not allow to be covered. What is happening to us as a country? Sarah Palin could be President. We–the American voter–have a right to know whether or not she’s ready for prime time.

His pick of Palin is an absolute joke and a mockery of the election process.

Well, excuse me, while I die of shock. What a transparent presidency we will have indeed if the McCain-Palin (or is that Palin-McCain?)ticket wins!

So McCain gets to decide what is printed and what isn’t???

Posted by: 08Election Decision | September 23, 2008, 11:39 am 11:39 am

My vote is ALL PRESS tells them to go shove it? They should all REFUSE to cover it period.

Posted by: Sandra | September 23, 2008, 11:40 am 11:40 am

Why does the McCain campaign get to make that decision? It’s a public event, it all should be made available to the public. Or, no pictures, no coverage at all – that would suit me fine. The less press coverage of Mrs. Palin, the better.

Posted by: marianne | September 23, 2008, 11:40 am 11:40 am

Wow, there’s free press for you. Imagine what these dolts will do if they’re actually elected? It might make Bush’s scripted press conferences look refreshing!

Posted by: Lee | September 23, 2008, 11:41 am 11:41 am

More of the same from McCain’s “honorable” campaign. No reporter access, no accountability. WHAT ARE THEY HIDING? Could it be Sarah Palin is unprepared, and can’t stand up to media scrutiny? Well if that’s not true, why does the media have no access to her, for what, four weeks now?

Posted by: jon in maryland | September 23, 2008, 11:41 am 11:41 am

Kate,
Do you think that perhaps you, your organization, and the liberal media are part of the problem?
Why is it that most non-liberal people have to go to additional news orgranizations outside of ABC/NBC/CBS to get clarity on “your news stories” as you edit them to make people think one thing, when in actuality what happened was another!
Perhaps no one trusts you, or your organization?
Look in the mirror once in a while

How does the McCain campaign feel they have any right to limit media exposure for their VP candidate, over and above what is normal? And more importantly, why??? IT is clear they see her as a liability, and fear that she will say or do something to let the public know her true nature.

What are we trying to hide here? Maybe…..ignorance. Ignorance in action, more of the same.

IF Charlie Gibson had been more civil on ABC with Governor Palin, and IF Martha Raddiz had indicated that of 60 soldiers interviewed, 54 (90%) were voting for McCain and only 6 not, maybe the news would be more represented. Martha then used 3 for Obama and 2 for Clinton on the air, a 1/100,000 statistical chance on a RANDOM basis. No wonder the campaign does not want the liberal broadcast media and the warped Fourth Estate there when Palin meets these folks. Only an idiot would tolerate such Obama cheerleading and distortion of the news. For the most part, journalism is unethical, biased, uses charged language and represents the political agenda of wealthy liberal slobs. I recommend that reporters who do not offer objectivity and fairness in their reporting take a break and do some honest work for a change. In the interim, I would recommend reporters be given sparse access to the candidates. Then they can work for the National Inquirer instead, until they go back to school and learn what journalism really was supposed to be. Until then, they can crawl up in the fetal position and suck on their thumbs.

This is why America, is digging through her garbage. They just want to know who she is.
What do you think the rest of the world, will view her?
As a fragile little chiwawa, that needs protected.

trans·par·ent \tran(t)s-ˈper-ənt\
Function: adjective
1] having the property of transmitting light without appreciable scattering so that bodies lying beyond are seen clearly
2] free from pretense or deceit : frank; easily detected or seen through : obvious

Is this [2] what Palin means by ‘transparent’? The fact that we can see right through her and McCain’s pitiful charade!

Posted by: Deep Release | September 23, 2008, 11:43 am 11:43 am

MCCain hasn’t done a press conference in 40 days and Palin hasn’t done one since she ‘s been picked. I think what McCain is afraid of is that the truth hurts.

Posted by: bhciapol | September 23, 2008, 11:43 am 11:43 am

Of course they dont want any one to be in there because they dont want anyone to see how inexperienced she really is even though it has been quite obvious she is not qualified for the ticket the campaign just refuses to admit it.

YOu know, you journalists (and I use that term loosely) are not the end all, be all. You maliciously attacked Sarah Palin for days after her nomination… spread vicious horrible rumours.. why should she give any of you the time of day? Just so you can twist and distort and attack? You guys have NO CREDIBILITY with the public anymore.

Posted by: Angry Voter | September 23, 2008, 11:44 am 11:44 am

One would expect this from a Chinese or North Korean government or a dictatorship….secretive, paranoid, irrational. This is what we would have to look forward to.

Posted by: Daisy | September 23, 2008, 11:44 am 11:44 am

I’m with the previous writer. The networks should respond by refusing to cover the story at all. Give them what they want – in spades.

Posted by: Bayou947 | September 23, 2008, 11:44 am 11:44 am

What are they so afraid of? A light-weight among heavy hitters?

Posted by: jec1950 | September 23, 2008, 11:45 am 11:45 am

Why is it that that Democrats seem to be the most bitter and angry group in America. If you don’t like Palin vote for Obama and watch SNL. I had given money to McCain but not my max since all of the personal attacks have happened I now have given the max. Be angry in silence because when you say it out loud the base will react

Posted by: Jim | September 23, 2008, 11:46 am 11:46 am

Hoist in their own petard! So no free photo ops from the networks because the Palin/McCain campaign doesn’t want any reporters to witness how inexperienced Palin might sound speaking with these leaders. EXCELLENT!!

Posted by: mila | September 23, 2008, 11:46 am 11:46 am

Sarah Palin wants to ban books in Alaska and now John McCain wants to block media coverage. This is the type of governemnt we need.

Posted by: RA | September 23, 2008, 11:46 am 11:46 am

The question is: when will the public be outraged at the lack of an independent press and fair press? The McCain campaign knows that the major media outlets are in the tank for Obama. The McCain campaign is not manipulating the press; the press is manipulating the public and they’re doing it on behalf of the con artist from Hyde Park. When will the press give the same scrutiny to Obama’s racist, antisemitic and terrorist cronies that it is now giving to truly minor and trivial matters that might have occurred in Alaska such as the nonsense over a dispute involving a library book.
Give me a break!

Posted by: Randy | September 23, 2008, 11:47 am 11:47 am

Oh, but she really is ready to lead! She said so herself on television! I agree.. the press should boycott this one simply on principle!

Palin is isolated from reporters what are they hiding?

Posted by: Lookup | September 23, 2008, 11:47 am 11:47 am

What’s the difference. If the other reporters were in the room, they wouldn’t be able to participate in the meeting anyway. They can do the same reporting from the camera feed and don’t have to be in on the meeting. Besides, What does the McCain Campaign owe any of these Democratic Loving Media reporters. We need to bring back the law that requires EQUAL reporting for both major parties. You can see the media just can’t be trusted.

Posted by: TW | September 23, 2008, 11:48 am 11:48 am

Trying to hide and run at the same time. They fear truth will come out. Just on these tactics alone, people should vote for Obama/Biden. Imagine what it will be like IF by chance they get elected.

Posted by: disillusioned2008 | September 23, 2008, 11:49 am 11:49 am

Can anyone be surprised by this latest revelation? Of course reporters and cameras were banned. Otherwise, it would have recorded her being the most confused, out-of-touch, and ridiculous candidate in history. I can only imagine what the world leaders think! They probably thought she was the “entertainment” when she walked in the room!

Posted by: Sharon | September 23, 2008, 11:49 am 11:49 am

How much of Obama’s discussions with world leaders during his trip to Germany, Iraq, France etc was on tape? … only what he wanted to be … so the McCain Campaign is doing nothing unusual. And with the trash that the Media is reporting; i.e. the incest skit on SNL, why is that on the news 3 days later? … with this level of reporting, who would want the Media in the room?

But most of us are beginning to realize who McCain really is. And what his admin. would look like. I say more Palin, more troopergate, more flip flops, more ignoring the media..more more more

Posted by: HardLiner | September 23, 2008, 11:50 am 11:50 am

Wake up folks Sarah Palin is a real dimwit and this is the reason the McCain handlers do NOT what any major coverage of her meetings. They RUSHED to select her ONLY because she was a woman with a pertty face who puts on a good “act” of bing a pit bull, but is really a cupcake with artificial icing provided by the Republican party! Her selection was designed to attract women over from Hillary Clinton and if anyone, man or women, votes for McCain only for this reason you will earn exactly what you deserve—NOTHING! Sarah Palin is AGAINST everything women have worked fought for over these last 70 years and if elected she will set YOUR cause back at least 100 years! If that is what you are willing to get up only to see a woman as vice preident may God have mercy on you all!

Posted by: WISDOM FIRST! | September 23, 2008, 11:50 am 11:50 am

Posted by: ElodieStClair | September 23, 2008, 11:51 am 11:51 am

You ask why? Is that a rhetorical question? Obviously, she has NO experience, and the McCain camp doesn’t want their “head in the sand” followers to catch on. They’ve already put limits on the VP debates to make sure she’s only asked questions for which she has memorized “canned” responses. This is the biggest sham ever to occur in U.S. politics. What a joke!

What is most upsetting that both McCain and Palin are allowed to get away with this while it is demanded that past and future candidates be completely transparent and they still want people to vote for them.
Palin dishes out attacks and lies and can’t take the presure when facts are presented and when she is ask a simple childish question. Shame on the US… This lady should not be allow to run at this time…maybe later but she is truly not ready for the bigger platform in her career.

Not all media is liberal. How about Fox Noise Channel. They could report on her and do a real great job of making her look like the best person on the planet to be V.P. Maybe Rush and his ilk could cover the story. They love her. A rational person can only conclude that the reason the McCain Campaign doesn’t want any coverage of her discussions with foreign dignitaries is because she is ill-informed and unqualified to be Vice President of the United States. But, I don’t think McCain really cares. He’d rather win an election than do what’s best for this country. And he claims “Country First”. Yeah, right!

McCain’s campaign advisors are going to cost him this election if he doesn’t do it himself. Here they have an opportunity for her to demonstrate her ability to communicate with foreign leaders (the entire purpose of her doing this) and now ALL of the media coverage will be ALL about how they didn’t allow reporters in the room.
Headline could have been:
“Palin meets with Afghan President Hamid Karzai”
Now headline will be:
“Reporters banned from Palin meeting with Afghan President Hamid Karzai”
Stupid.

Dear concerned citizens of America and Mass Media of the U.S.A.
As a concerned registered independent voter, forensic psychiatrist, disabled American I made my decision to vote after taking into consideration following joint tickets attributes and characteristics.
1. Has the ticket shown adequate calmness, coolness, and connectedness’s under pressure to lead our nation [Presidential Temperament]?
2. Has the ticket shown sustained sound “Judgment and Caliber”?
3. Has the ticket shown adequate understanding of depth and degree to address the crucial challenges in their their purpose, policies, and positions [ Honesty, integrity and sincerity]?
4. Has the ticket sufficient “understanding and knowledge” of inside Washington workings [Experience]“?
5. Has the ticket reservoir resilience, wisdom, and vigor to address the present and future f our beloved “Great-grand Nation”?
6. Has the ticket enough joint foreign policy experience and exposure based on ” Values, Virtues, Vastness, and ” [American moral soul]“?
7. Has their campaign talk, slogans, ads, plans, and programs based on facts and are they free of fear, fiction, frivolous labels, unfair attacks, negativity, and impulsively? [No "imminent danger to national
security and safety"].
8. Has the ticket genuinely kept on message of country first and politics last and avoided copying [Message change"]?
9.Has the ticket message stayed away from Culture divide and war[ Disaster prevention ]?
10. Has the ticket resisted being surrounded, supported and surrogate’s by divisiveness, distortion’s, and destructive characters, [ Real patriotism VS shiftiness and shameless parrot-ism]?
11. Has the ticket thoughtful, real non-partisan, & non-impulsive plans to address our current economic crisis or political tactics and temperamental statements.
I have personally and professionally concluded that OBAMA-BIDEN ticket will lift and inspire our greatgrand nation back to its greatness within and restore our global standing with the use of maximum, firm

Why Colombian President Uribe and not the President of Peru, the President of Venezuela, the President of Argentina – all three have ejected the U.S. Ambassadors until after the election. Why not the President of Ecuador who before the Latin American Countries secured admonisment against the U.S. backed Uribe for crossing the border and killing innocent Ecuadorans in the U.S. backed “war on drugs” which has funneled millions to corrupt politicians and military. Why not talk to Guatemala, El Salvador or Honduras Presidents and explain the U.S. backing of dictatorships that killed indigenous peoples? Why not balanced reporting? Because Telemundo and Univision have already seen and are reporting the distortion that Palin and McCain are making regarding relations in this hemisphere. Why doesn’t Palin ask the Russian delegation why a nuclear submarine from Russia next month will be off the South American coast (as reported last night on Univision and Telemundo)? Get this woman off the stage before she does more damage than George W. Bush could ever have dreamed of.

It’s funny to me that those that support the McCain/Palin ticket just attack the media as being “liberal” when they hear something negative about their candidate. I have heard/read plenty of negative things about my candidate over the last year, but I never labeled the media as conservative because of it. Why were you not complaining about the press when they were attacking Hillary Clinton? How come you only care what they say when it’s something negative about McCain/Palin? Look yourselves in the mirror and ask yourselves those questions. Those of us that are complaining are doing so because we want the truth. We want to know who/what our elected officials are all about. We don’t want smoke and mirrors. As the article states, what the media is asking for/expecting in this situation is the norm and the only reason it is getting coverage is because they are being denied the norm by the McCain administration. That makes it look like they are trying to hide something and makes people not trust them. If you want my trust then be an open book! And Bob, not only non-liberals look to outside sources for their news coverage, but unlike you, we choose to get it from someone other than Fox.

They are continuing dictating to the public what they will not allow. This has gotten out of control. This is not a game show – Why is this being allowed? Of course the public has made their own perception that this woman was not vetted and the McCain camp is afraid letting her speak alone with all the dictating to the media not to get to close to her…. I have lost much respect for McCain for this kind of distraction even if his camp forced this decision upon him.
still undecided. Palin needs to go away immediately!

Everyone knows that McCain chose Palin for political purposes – to get his “base,” to get the women voters, to get the Evangelicals, and not to do the best for the country. That has become more and more apparent. I am one woman voter who is appalled at the disrespect and disregard and utter contempt McCain has shown not only towards women, but the country as a whole. He doesn’t get my vote. Not this year.

Posted by: counting crows | September 23, 2008, 12:01 pm 12:01 pm

This is a masterful move by McCain. The media and the American people don’t even realize that they are being manipulated.
You see, McCain and the Republicans are the richest and most powerful people on the planet. They keep themselves in power by being so very effective at playing the “victim.” They use these kinds of tactics to bate the media into complaining about their secrecy and then McCain and Republicans turn it around and say, “…the liberal media is attacking us.” Unfortunately the American people fall for it.
The only way this will ever change will be for Americans to wake up and realize that the richest, most powerful people on the planet realize that we American all too often act like sheep. SNAP OUT OUT IT AMERICA: BEFORE ITS TOO LATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: FM | September 23, 2008, 12:02 pm 12:02 pm

This is outrageous. I don’t even know what to say. It embarasses me that there are still people out there defending this woman. The McCain campaign talks a good game, saying she’s qualified, a great choice yada yada yada. Meanwhile, they’re scared to death to let her open her mouth without a script if there are cameras and microphones nearby. That, more than anything, should tell you what kinid of confidence the McCain campaign really has in Palin, despite all their protests to the contrary. If you believe in your candidate and his/her credentials and experience, you don’t keep them from speaking, and you don’t push to have the debate rules changed to keep your candidate from having to engage with her VP opponent. If she couldn’t hold her own with Charlie Gibson, they’re too afraid to let her speak in public, they want her meetings at the U.N. uncovered, and they’re afraid to have her really debate Joe Biden, what does that tell you about how prepared they really think she is? Give me a break…..

Another cover up…
Sen McCain and his campaign are afraid of exposing their inaptness. One, they didn’t vett Sarah Palin properly. Two, they are interfering and hi-jacking the Trooper gate investigation. Three, they have been preventing the media from asking Palin fair questions, and now this. They are preventing the American public access in these important meeting, that will help us decide with Palin is capable and qualified to be our next VP and possibily our president.
What are you hiding??????
Cover up after cover up… just like the Bush/Cheney administration…

The notion that Palin’s media timidity has anything to do with the nature of the press rather than her incomprehensible lack of qualification is self deluding fantasy. The mind set that thinks that if you keep saying the fundamentals of the economy are strong in hopes that it will just become true.

when will the outrage start already? Aren’t we entitled to see how Ms. Palin handles herself with foreign dignitaries? Isn’t that the point of why she is running- according to her she is qualified and didn’t blink when asked to come onboard the ticket. Are we just to take her word for it? We’ve had eight years of lying and deceit. Enough. She needs to be under a microscope if she continues to hide. What a sham this is, and will be even more if the press doesn’t make this an issue.

Posted by: Susan | September 23, 2008, 12:07 pm 12:07 pm

The majority of the U.S. networks are pure left wing propaganda machines and only a fool would give them enfettered access. The networks are no longer unbiased news media; they’re political entities and must be dealt with as such. Palin is doing exactly the correct things and if the networks don’t like it . . . tough. It’s high time that the allocation of the people’s electromagnetic spectrum reviewed and reallocated to non-political broadcast entities.

Just because Obama has to have an entourage of reporters everywhere he goes (even to take his daughters to school), does not mean that McCain and Palin think it is necessary to be followed everywhere. Honest to God, you people complain when the press does an article on McCain/Palin saying it is not newsworthy and then you complain when they don’t want press coverage and you look for some big deep dark secret that is being kept. Just keep following the “Rock Star Obama” and covering every little itty bitty thing he does so we can confirm how arrogant, ridiculous and inexperienced he is. Leave our candidate alone, they have nothing to prove to us. We know they are the better choice and that Obama just is not an option to be elected president.

Posted by: Voting for McCain because of Palin | September 23, 2008, 12:13 pm 12:13 pm

I am agog watching the circus play out in this country. We might not care what the rest of the world thinks, but they sure care about what’s going on here.
I refused intitially to watch the ABC interview of Palin for two reasons:
1) I found the idea of seeing Palin pretend like she’s up to being VP of the U.S. unbearable, and
2) I was terrified of seeing another reporter/journalist asking soft-ball questions that do not reveal the candidate’s true identity or (lack of )knowledge. (Thank goodness that’s not what happened.)
Despite the fact that we have had GWB, a first-class buffoon and empty-headed frat boy, in the White House for TWO terms, we are still entertaining the very real possibility of electing the dynamic duo of McCain-Palin. The idea that she could be President of the U.S. is nothing short of shocking. The fact that McCain’s decision-making process is obviously so impaired that he is willing to expose us to such a risk is reason enough to vote for Obama, or any other person on the ballot. That Obama can right all that has been ruined in this country is not at all certain (or that anyone can,for that matter), but to elect McCain-Palin would be a true finger to the rest of the world and a final (mercy) bullet to our own head.

I wanna know eveything about that person. and when you are a lying secretive persona and dont make yourself available to the people they will go through your garbage. Palin had to expect to be grilled by the press since no one knew who she was including john mccain. The press work for the people and when you blame them for reporting something blame the human condition that loves a scandel they are just doing their job. It is essential to our democracy that press be allowed to do its job.

I am not a huge Palin fan but it is rather interesting why Obama backers are so concerned of her lack of experience being a VP pick when she has more experience than the democrats #1 pick. Obama is a great speaker but has done NOTHING!! His wife has more accomplishments than he does and probably more prepared to be president.

Always has to be the way Sarah wants it. She is like a spoiled child. But one thing for sure, she refuses to answer real questions, except on Fox, and then, well, those are real questions, are they!
Hannity is a baffoon.
Hey, I have a question for Sarah. WHO THE HECK IS THE WITCH DOCTOR LAYING HANDS ON YOU, TO HELP YOU WIN THE VICE PRESIDENCY?
AND SARAH, WHY DO YOU BELIEVE, AND YOUR CHURCH TEACHES, THAT CATS, ALL DOMESTIC CATS, ARE EVIL, AND FROM SATAN?
Sarah wants to turn this country into a Theocracy! No thanks, I am not an Pentacostal Assembly of God member.
If your Jewish, catholic, Episcopal or Mormon, forget being Muslim, you are in big trouble with sister Sarah, she literally despises you!

Now, Palin’s top-secret media-blackout! Will the meetings be held at an undisclosed location too?
wow! Palin must be discussing highly confidential McCain administration policies. Why the black-out on the press? Transparency? Naah. Why bother with something silly like that? Paranoia about the Press? Who us?! Bush-Rumsfeld-Cheney weren’t troubled with something as silly as transparency. Why should McCain-Palin? Looks like McCain-Palin are learning how to run a cloak-and-dagger, zero-transparency operation from the current VP, yours-truly D ick Cheney!
Is this is a surprise? Should we be shocked, folks?! Nope, not if we’ve been tuning in. The same people who run Bush’s administration are deeply involved in coaching Palin and running McCain’s campaign.
More of the Same isn’t just a slogan that was pulled out of thin air. It can’t be more obvious! McCain-Palin = Bush-Cheney. Why? They’ve got the same people at their staff meetings.
If you’d like to pat ‘em on the back for the last 8 and give ‘em another 4. Boy, I don’t know if that’s wise! Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me thrice, boy, I don’t even want to know!

Friends…
Only my opinion –
It seems like McCain/Palin are setting up the rules to make the leaders they visit with feel more comfortable, instead of feeling like targets of a rabid U.S. media frenzy.
Since Palin is meeting leaders of other countries for the first time, it seems logical to ease into her role at first, instead of risking overkill by the media of some comment likely taken out of context.
Yes, Charles Gibson was insulting to Palin. I watched the interview and his body english seemed snide to me.
No, I haven’t made my final decision about which candidate to case my vote for. Both sides have their pros and cons. I certainly don’t believe the hype that McCain is a Dubya clone, and I don’t believe any of the anti-Obama spam making the rounds of the Internet.
I’ll keep evaluating both sides until I’m convinced in my own mind that my choice will be the right leader for America.

NONE NONE NONE

Posted by: FrankW | September 23, 2008, 12:30 pm 12:30 pm

Why would the McCain camp want any reporters record Palin while she’s in the middle of job training? It is obvious that Bush/McCain polices do not include Freedom of the Press unless they stand to benefit. What an embarrassment for our country on top of this latest Economic meltdown…”Gidget goes to the U.N.”….
More proof to the world that those in power who run this country, do not care about how we appear to the rest of the world. As an Independent female voter, McCain will not get my vote based upon his record on deregulation, and for the VP selection which was probably the biggest insult of all.

Posted by: ChangeIsGood | September 23, 2008, 12:31 pm 12:31 pm

Wow – it’s amazing how many people on this message board so badly misconstrue the situation. This was never a case of NO media in the meeting – it was a case of HOW MANY. No body was trying to hide anything. This is not an official meeting. Palin is not acting as an official representative of the US – there is no requirement that the press even be present. And, in the end, a camera and an editorial person will be there.

Posted by: Just following along | September 23, 2008, 12:31 pm 12:31 pm

Did I miss the memo that states that a candidate for VP who could very well ultimately be called upon to lead this entire country gets to pick and choose exactly what the public and the press get to learn of her character, decision making abilities, character and qualifications for that position?? If she doesn’t want to run for the office, wonderful. If she’s going to run, she had better pull them together and let the public see who she is and what she’s made of politically!

The McCain/Palin ticket and their supporters should not complain about any unflattering things the media says. If they are not willing to talk with the press, why should the press go to bat for them? You cannot dismiss a group of people and expect them to say flattering things about you.

It’s about time we got a ring in the presses nose! They’ve had way to much say so and have never been held accountable for their actions. Not to mention that the majority of the American people are stupid and they listen to everything Oprah or Bill O’Reily tells them. Yeah, yeah…freedom of speech and press and all that, but someone has to collar the watchdogs because they’re running wild and selling fabrications that only the simple minded and educated idiots buy. I wish the press had just stuck to their guns and not covered this at all. Now only one CNN reporter will be allowed in. One opinion that the McCain camp will undoubtedly slam if they say anything remotely critical. Let her do it alone. No pictures, no coverage. All Palin has EVER been for the McCain camp is a media distraction. A way to take the spotlight off Obama. Then the spotlight got a bit bright for them and they started complaining immediately. Hypocrisy at its finest.

No offense to anybody but people need to start seeing things to the McCain/Palin point of view because Obama just wants to take the troops immediatley of Iraq & Iran and thinks everyone would be happy, but how can we all be happy when so many countries does not like america and how can obama’s slogan “Time for a Change” really be when there is so much hate and anger between people and the world. Also even if bush is head in chief he is not the blame for losing our houses and Obama keeps putting it over on bush when that’s not his fault, when much of us are to blame, espically for our loans. And also how can McCain be like bush when they are two different people and obama keeps saying is his ads “We don’t want more of the same” when they are not the same people. And america has been mostly a country of complainers and obama is making himself look so stupid with one of the many statemets I put down here.

How can anyone think that having a VP that needs minders, tutors, and must be coddled is a good thing? I can understand that a lot of people who share the same religious beliefs as she does may appreciate her brand of conservatism, but even the most ardent evangelical must be able to see that she does not have the education or experience to be on a world stage. If anything should happen to McCain, if he were to win, Palin would only be able to act as a puppet that needs someone to pull her strings. She would not be able to function as president, she would only be able to read the speeches and inform the American public what her controllers have decided.

Being left or right has nothing to do with why the media has been shut out of her meetings. What both sides need to question and take seriously is; WHY is she being hidden? Why specifically her? Barack had the world follow him around and he was put under a micoscope by everybody. Also remember he had Senator Chuck Hagel with him too – a Republican. All that is going to happen is that she will have pictures taken with these influential world leaders, then posted online and published in newspapers and magazines. Thus fooling more Americas into believing she “must” have foreign policy experience because, look, she’s meeting with the President of Afghanistan. One other thing, I bet she has this page bookmarked:

When there’s biase favoring Obama and giving him the halo-like visionary over his head while painting the McCain’s camp w/viscious lies and smears… rude, sexist comments … have you even heard of the extreme liberal media loons out there against McCain and Palin. The McCain/Palin ticket are marching to the beat of the people who trusts them to lead… not the biased media.
By now, most of the McCain/Palin supporters are tired of the media already… hence, you’ll see mostly liberals complaining everything Palin, and we on the otherside, have heard your vitriol, and have decided to push your hate aside.
If the press wants to cover fairly, no one would complain. But no, they’ve chosen the leader… not the people. So why give them the satisfaction of spinning the facts to favor their candidate… when the people deserve raw information, not media spun information.

I just came back from an international meeting where the membership was less than 1% female (if you discount the spouses that came along). Most of my peers from outside the US seemed to equate Palin with Bush, but better looking. The German delegation indicated that Merkel is easy on the eyes, but she is intelligent as well. Some of the French said that their president had marry beauty to have it in the government, he did not make it a running mate.
It dawned on me while listening to the comments (not all of which were in English so I may have messed up a little on the translation) that Obama missed the boat by not naming VALERIE PLAME! Gorgeous blonde who can obviously think on her feet and is a lot closer to rocket science than Palin ever will be (I guess since she saw the fourth of July firewirks, she knows a little about rockets….)
All in all it was quite embarassing to try to explain that in my country it all boils down to whether you can convince people to vote for you.

justrightto,
I said bring it on..
Lets talk about Rev Wright, Troopergate, adultary by McCain, plagiarism by Biden etc etc..
BUT DON@T START THROWING THE PRESS TO JAIL…..THIS IS NOT RUSSIAN…..DOESNT MATTER THAT YOU SEE RUSSIA FROM YOUR HOUSE.

Campaign just CAVED…..camera was pulled from the meetings.
Editorial people along with the camera WILL be in the room.
WAY TO GO MEDIA!
Do you think the McCain/Palin campaign considered that if they had allowed her to actually be forthcoming and meet with the press immediately after the convention — share with the world how fabulous she was…..vs. hiding her away in terror of her answering an unscripted question….how different things would be?
She should have made the rounds of ALL the networks AND Sunday shows. If she is really that great and has nothing to hide….why not show it off!!!!
Only thing she can do is follow a script.
hummmmm.

Posted by: Cathy | September 23, 2008, 12:48 pm 12:48 pm

Again, McCain/Palin supporters are missing the point of the article. There is a standard practice that is followed for certain meetings. The press is allowed one camera and certain written press media. This is standard practice, not something they were trying to do just because it is Palin. However, the McCain campaign wanted to go against this standard until there was push back that nothing would be published from these meetings. Then they agree, but still are not within the standard practice. If Palin is so ready, and their administration will be so transparent, why go against standard reporting procedures for these meetings?

NO PEACE TALKS, WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS MAN! THEY JUST WANT MORE WAR, WHY DO YOU WANT PEOPLE WHO WANT WAR, NOT PEACE?

I know who posts the cry baby crap, and its because the CNN and NBC can’t get to Sarah enough to “decimate”her. Thats what they want, not to cover the news but to find fault and destroy her. SHAME on you, stop pretending to be so lofty, you are slime and should be forced to write weather reports, then at least you can be right 50% of the time and blame everything on god, oh I forgot most of you do not believe in God.

Posted by: PJ | September 23, 2008, 12:49 pm 12:49 pm

Sorry, this is a private meeting.
Since the media (>80%, anyway) has used every opportunity to be critical of anything about the McCains & Palins, I have no problem limited access.
To be objective, take the next five days and scour the headlines of MSNBC, CNN, USA Today and Fox News (online editions)
Make a tally of negative articles vs. positive.
You will find overwhelmingly the press is obviously “Anti-McCain/Palin” and “Pro-Obama/Biden”
We see the difference and I don’t blame anyone for opening the doors to more reporters that are anxious to present the Republicans in a negative light.
Bill Clinton did the same thing before his first debate, no one complained or thought it was incredulous..
On it’s Political Page, here are the highlights:
“Palin meeting with world leaders ahead of debate”
“McCain blamed, Obama gains on economy”

Kim,
At least the press should say something before you start to protest.
Sarah Putin wants the press muzzled.
That sound Russian to me.

“We don’t need Obama’s “GET IN YOUR FACE” squad attacking world leaders. You come here and “Get in my face” instead, I will show you some bashing.”
Yup. That’s why the US is where it is today.

dmsc – It’s fine to not support Sarah Palin based on your disagreement with her work history/accomplishments – but to base your opinion on twisted logic, lies and half truths is just silly.
1. “book banning” The truth is, Sarah Palin never banned a book and documents at the city of Wasilla’s Web site show that she did nothing more than ask about policy and, at a resident’s request, asked about two books.
2. “firing of any one not agreeing” There are no documents to back this up. She was fighting a corrupt system when she took office and did what she had to do. Records on file at the city of Wasilla’s website do not indicate that people were fired for not agreeing with her but for other reasons.
3. “putting her own politoco;s in cabinet even tho ignoramus’s” not sure what you’re talking about here – when you elect an official, you expect them to “clean the cabinet” and install their own people – it’s one reason why we elect new politicians.
4. “padding all the trips and books” She also put the state budget on the Internet, so that everyone and anyone can review the books. Her spending was not even close that that of her predesseors.
5. “her children family as AMERICAN FAMILY VAKUES!!” Ummmm – did you say the same thing when Obama put his children on tv and let them do an interview with Entertainment Tonight?
6. “no interviews and openess, must be treated with reverence” – She has given several interviews – you must have missed them. There’s even been a book written about her – it’s in bookstores.
7. “explain why the foreign visitors would even meet with her;” They would meet with her for the same reason foreign leaders met with Obama – out of respect for our political process – something many Americans like yourself seem to have forgotten.

I see the lefties are all in a complete tizzy about this. Of course, all of these same folks were completely outraged when an Obama campaign staffer wouldn’t allow a Fox camera even to get a shot of “THE ONE” at a public event.

No? You mean leftist outrage is saved completely to defend leftist news outlets like CNN, ABC, NBC etc.?????

I wish the media would just boycott the McCain campaign completely. Let them have their little KKK rallies in Florida with no coverage at all.

Obama and Biden – Perfect Together: Obama thought there was 57 States, Biden averaged about $57.00 a year donated to charities. Obama thought about joining the army and Biden ran from the army during the Vietnam War (5 deferments and a medical exemption for teenage asthma). Obama did some “organizing” with home grown terrorist Ayers and Biden thinks is patriotic to pay MORE taxes. Obama didn’t want any part of Hillary for VP and Biden thought he should have chosen her. Obama wanted to stop law abiding citizens from owning guns and Biden told him he couldn’t have his guns.

RJ from NC,
The press needn’t be fair (at least not like O’Reiley or Rush Limburgh) but they have to have their opinion expressed. It is called democracy…..
I guess that is french to your Russian VP candidate.
Emman,
Wow …..How cosmic. Being retired military it’s called military and you can thank me now for your rights to express your opinion.
As far as for the media in general I can see your point we have several while you have :PBS,NPR,CBS,NBC,MSNBC,ABC,Air America (are they still up and running?) Plus most of the Producers,Directors,Actors, Actresses (not PC but who cares) So as far as I’m concerned it’s fair. After all. Being a liberal is a gutless choice right :-)

Just wanted to point out that NO MEDIA was present when Obama met with the Iraqi foreign minister – the same meeting when, according to the foreign minister’s comment to the Washington Post, Obama asked that any US troop withdrawal be delayed until after the election – and the same one where he referred to Bush as being in a “weakened state of confusion.” I wonder why Obama didn’t allow cameras and reporters in that meeting? I wonder if Obama supporters were equally outraged by Obama’s snubbing of the press in that case?

Before you associate Gov Palin with the communist leader Putin, how about: In 1995, State Senator Alice Palmer introduced her chosen successor, Barack Obama, to a few of the district’s influential liberals at the home of two well known figures on the local left: William Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn. They disappeared in 1970, after a bomb — designed to kill army officers in New Jersey — accidentally destroyed a Greenwich Village townhouse, and turned themselves into authorities in 1980. They were never prosecuted for their involvement with the 25 bombings the Weather Underground claimed; charges were dropped because of improper FBI surveillance. Both have written and spoken at length about their pasts, and today he is an advocate for progressive education and a professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago; she’s an associate professor of law at Northwestern University. But — unlike some other fringe figures of the era — they’re also flatly unrepentant about the bombings they committed in the name of ending the war, defending them on the grounds that they killed no one, except, accidentally, their own members. Dohrn, however, was jailed for less than a year for refusing to testify before a grand jury investigating other Weather Underground members’ robbery of a Brinks truck, in which a guard and two New York State Troopers were killed.

Emman,
My post was meant primarily to point out the selective outrage of leftists and their hypocritical “police state” rhetoric.
However, the difference, since you ask, is that Palin’s meetings are meant to be conversations between leaders while the Obama event was a completely open, public and media event. Certainly, you see the difference.

And let’s not forget about: Percy Sutton, the former borough president of Manhattan, off-handedly revealed the unusual circumstances about his first encounter with the young Obama. “I was introduced to (Obama) by a friend who was raising money for him,” Sutton told NY1 city hall reporter Dominic Carter. “The friend’s name is Dr. Khalid al-Mansour, from Texas,” Sutton said. “He is the principal adviser to one of the world’s richest men. He told me about Obama.” Sutton, the founder of Inner City Broadcasting, said al-Mansour contacted him to ask a favor: Would Sutton write a letter in support of Obama’s application to Harvard Law School? “He wrote to me about him,” Sutton recalled. “And his introduction was there is a young man that has applied to Harvard. I know that you have a few friends up there because you used to go up there to speak. Would you please write a letter in support of him?” Sutton said he acted on his friend al-Mansour’s advice. Although many Americans have never heard of Khalid Abdullah Tariq al-Mansour (his full name), he is well known within the black community as a lawyer, an orthodox Muslim, a black nationalist, an author, an international deal-maker, an educator, and an outspoken enemy of Israel.

Posted by: Diane | September 23, 2008, 1:01 pm 1:01 pm

Lillian, it is not a private meeting. When two leaders meet, there is always times for photo ops and for people to report on part of the meetings. Granted there are parts that are behind closed doors, but Palin is not going to be talking about high level governmental things.
DaChew, so one of Obama’s aids was messing with O’Reilly. If you watch the whole video, Obama does go over to shake O’Reilly’s hand after he was already walking away.
Also, I believe Obama took questions from O’Reilly. Palin has done interviews with Gibson and Hannity…talk about still working with training wheels.

And lets hear it from voters that were brought into the fold by ACORN: If you don’t know what ACORN (the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now) is all about, you better bone up. This left-wing group takes in 40 percent of its revenues from American taxpayers — you and me — and has leveraged nearly four decades of government subsidies to fund affiliates that promote the welfare state and undermine capitalism and self-reliance, some of which have been implicated in perpetuating illegal immigration and encouraging voter fraud. A new whistleblower report from the Consumer Rights League documents how Chicago-based ACORN has commingled public tax dollars with political projects. Who in Washington will fight to ensure that your money isn’t being spent on these radical activities? Don’t bother asking Barack Obama. He cut his ideological teeth working with ACORN as a “community organizer” and legal representative. Naturally, ACORN’s political action committee has warmly endorsed his presidential candidacy. ACORN head Maude Hurd gushes that Obama is the candidate who “best understands and can affect change on the issues ACORN cares about” — like ensuring their massive pipeline to your hard-earned money. Let’s take a closer look at the ACORN Obama knows.

ABC — as well as the entirety of the MSM — have shown they have abandoned their role as news gatherers and have assumed the one of pro-Obama propaganda mills. As such, they no longer deserve press privileges. Let then spend their time spinning lovely fairy tales about Obama — that’s the only thing for which they’re good.

How convenient for Palin to have cameras only, and just one at that! This way the gaffes can be carefully edited out to make her look as good as possible. I wonder if there will be retakes of botched lines. I’m sure CNN will more than happy to oblige.
Cripes, this woman is getting to be the worst political joke in American history!

Maybe if the media – especially the print media – stopped being Obamamaniacs and stopped trashing the McCain/Palin ticket, McCain & Palin would be willing to have them cover this big news.
They excluded the print media for a reason – they’re obviously ticked off at the biased coverage.
Journalists need to check their biases at the door and just write the story without partisan opinions. That also goes for conservative print journalists (all 5 of them) that write about Obama.

Has anyone else noticed the remarkable resemblance of Sarah Palin to Kirstie in “A Bunny’s Tail”? Maybe that’s the Mc Cain strategy: Take one of the little animals she is so fond of mutilating and put the ears and tail on her. I’ll bet of Hef has a couple of the old black satin outfits hanging around as well. I can see it now: world leaders and the official White House BUNNY!!!!! I can visualize her saying “I’m your bunny Sarah”. The only problem is that a lot of the bunnies would be offended because they were working at the Playboy Club to finance college degrees.
Note to Lorne Michael: You can use this idea for free.

A little over a month before election day and the McCain campaign is attempting to prevent America from knowing anything meaningful about his VP candidate? How about this? HOW ABOUT IF ALL THE NEWS MEDIA REFUSE TO COVER PALIN UNTIL THE MCCAIN CAMPAIGN STARTS TREATING HER LIKE A REGULAR CANDIDATE? AND MCCAIN TOO FOR THAT MATTER. He’s getting tons of coverage in the way he wants, but not nearly enough heat for not making himself available to the press. Yeah, Fox will probably still cover her morning, noon and night, but they lost a whole lot of credibility with that soft ball interview with Hannity. Also, a countdown on all other networks and no hint of a free ride for McCain should do the trick. A candidate with no news coverage is a candidate who can’t win. The McCain campaign knows that. That’s why they caved on letting the CNN producer in to today’s meetings. I hope they’re taping the whole thing! No more letting McCain push the American press and the American people around.

FOX news was in on this boycott so it was across the board.
Her avoidance of ANY press in ANY situation is unprecidented.
I thought this campaign was about being transparent.
The more they hide her…the more it LOOKS like there is something to hide.

That O’Reilly had to scream over security and the campaign thug in order to get Obama’s attention is disgraceful. It also shows, if nothing else, Obama at least knows when it’s time to do the visually correct thing. Unlike his ill-trained staffer.
But do go on downplaying this incident. My point was leftist selective outrage and you’re illustrating it beautifully.

her involvement with the National Guard. Gee
has anyone researched this? When was she involved
with any decision making in using them? Was there any major catastrophe in Alaska that we didn’t know about? In her 2 years in office, did she at
any time have any communications with the White House, stating her concerns that she can see Russia from her State? Did Bush ever call her for any guidance to the Georgia conflict because “she can see Russia from her State?”
The press wants to know why she was chosen over
several candidates who had superior advantages over her.

Emman – It does not matter where the meeting between Obama and the Iraqi foreign minister took place – the media follows Obama everywhere and they were not allowed in that highly controversial meeting. Cameras and a reporter are being allowed in Palin’s meeting. Funny thing about the Obama-Iraqi foreign minister meeting is that Obama banned the media – the Iraqi Foreign minister later told the Washington Post about the meeting and Obama called the Iraqi Foreign minister a liar. You might have missed that story as much of the media chose not to cover it, but it highlights what can happen when the media is actually banned from a meeting.

Enough with the McCain trying to manipulate the media for their benefit. If he feels that she is qualified then she should be out there like the rest of the candidates. It’s funny but when the primaries were going on McCain told Mitt Romney that being a mayor and govenor did not qualify him to be president and now that he picked Palin he’s flip flopped on that to. The people should demand that she answer question.

Emman,
Because no cameras and no reporters would be held up by the left as Palin having secret meetings – especially with someone like Kissinger. They’d go completely insane with the “fascist” rhetoric.
You say that if the left suppresses press freedom, we should shout about that too. I agree. And my original post pointed out that leftists do NOT agree with us or they would not be exhibiting such selective outrage here.

Posted by: DaChew | September 23, 2008, 1:19 pm 1:19 pm

Ash – When did anyone vote for or against abortion? Until Roe v Wade is overturned (if it is overturned) it will not be an issue for voters to decide on – the Supreme Court made the decision for us to legalize abortion. It is far from the “main agenda” of the Republicans – abortion is used more as a scare tactic by the Democrats.
As for the war in Iraq, yes, the war needs to end, but not everyone agrees on when or how. Although Obama tells voters that troops need to be withdrawn right away, when Bush announced he would begin withdrawing troops, Obama met with the Iraqi foreign minister and suggested delaying the withdrawal of troops until after the election. Visit the Washington Post’s website and read the story. If you get all your news from the mainstream media, you will be ill informed.

Will,
Biden claimed small amounts of donations on his returns. That does not mean he did not make more donations, it is just he is not reducing his tax burden by writing off donations to charity. I don’t think there is a tax law that says you have to claim all donations. Why not complain about the McCains filing separately to hide part of their estate? Oh, that is because there is nothing wrong with them doing that.
Running from going to Vietnam, like Bush did by joining the National Guard using his Daddy’s influence. There were a lot of people who avoided drafts during that time. Some went into college, some got medical reasons, some ran to Canada, and some went into the National Guard. I also believe we had another president who did not serve in the military and who had this country not running in the red and people had jobs, President Clinton. So, who cares about whether Obama thought about serving during peace time and whether Biden had deferrments and medical releases.
Obama worked with Ayers on education reform, not some sort of underground organizing like you try to make is sound.
Nice job parroting the republican’s partial truths. They will be so proud.

>>You vote against abortion which is your main agenda
Huh? I’ve never voted against abortion. The Supreme Court Roe v. Wade decision took away my voter rights by claiming abortion was a Constitutional right that could not be denied by my vote or Congress.
I vote for Republicans because I want them to appoint judges that interpret the Constitution and don’t legislate from the bench.
getting back to the topic at hand… The media weren’t entirely banned. McCain was just trying to send a message that if you continue to be a partisan Obama hack, you can expect some retribution. About time McCain showed some balls against the liberal MSM!
Go McCain-Palin!
Down with terrorist-associating (William Ayers), criminal associating (Tony Resco, Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick), sitting in racist church for 20 years, throwing grandma & Rev Wright under the bus, NObama!

First off Kate, it’s GOVERNOR Palin, or Vice Presidential candidate Palin. Not just Sarah Palin.
Secondly, maybe if the admittedly left leaning media were more interested in reporting the news than shaping it, the McCain-Palin people would be more accommodating.
Just look at how McCain is treated on The View versus how Obama is treated. And Oprah won’t even allow Palin on her show yet shills for Obama.
The media is in the tank for Obama. That much is obvious. Why would anyone knowingly want to be ambushed?
And if Obama’s pick of Biden shows his managerial expertise, I ain’t impressed.
Neither Obama or Biden has ever run anything except a campaign. And these are the two you want to lead us?

I am from Canada. I have been closely following the US campaign since January 2008. I too find this a joke. If a VP candidate (man or women) will not be subjected to prudent questions as well as interviews that are vital to this election, than all voters are being duped. There is something wrong with this picture; since the selection process VP Biden has over 80 interviews to Palins 2. What ever happened to Democracy? How are any of you (male, female, young and old) expected to make an informed decision on who you want to vote for. Is she suppose to be for the people? At this point, I highly doubt it. This should be a two way street.
Here’s A quick solution: All News Media deny Palin the news & photo shoots she is hoping for (not just her meeting with foreign leaders & heads of states) Take steps beyond Wednesdays meeting until she starts answering questions & agreeing to interviews that all the American Voters deserve. The News media should only be focusing on the candidates that are coming forward with interviews and answers.

@Kitty: Utter nonsense. Palin visited Alaska National Guard troops as Governor of the state. Obama was visiting *Germany* (not Iraq) as a _candidate_ and followed the wishes of the military by not using wounded soldiers as political props. He *did*, however, meet privately with wounded soldiers.

“Here’s a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I’m not going to Washington to seek their good opinion. I’m going to Washington to serve the people of this country.”
Sarah Palin, September 3, 2008
The biggest appeal of Sarah Palin is that she’s not part of the New York-Washington elite and refuses to suck up to them or fall into their trap. In the past, they could destroy her for her insolence, but not anymore. They went after her 17-year-old daughter and her 4-month old son, and her supporters rallied around them. They tried to portray her as an airhead, and she proved them wrong. When none of this worked, they arrogantly proclaimed that the “Palin Effect” had already peaked, and she drew 60,000 supporters at a rally in Florida. And not once did she whine about this horrendous treatment.
Keep it up, guys; you’re just making her all the more popular. Here another little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: even if she and McCain lose, those of us in “fly over country” will never blindly buy your spin again.

Posted by: Lisa | September 23, 2008, 2:39 pm 2:39 pm

Its quite amusing to see the MSM whine when they don’t get what they want. Have they been civil in any way toward the non-anointed ones (Sarah and John)? When the anointed one speaks and makes an error(…my Muslim religion…”), Stephanopoulos gently corrects him. When Governor Palin seeks clarification on the Bush Doctrine, she is ridiculed by Charlie G. who attempts to make her look bad (until Charles Krauthammer dropped the hammer on Gibson’s stupidity). If I were the non-anointed ones, I would say “screw you” to the MSM and not let anyone in on the meetings. Wait… isn’t that what Obama did on his European tour?
Until you, the MSM, remove your heads from your rear ends and become objective journalists, I will not watch your drivel.
By the way, I used to be a Dem until Carter. Now I am an independant.
In Chicago, Obama stonewalled the newspapers on his associations with Rezko, Ayres, etc. As a US Senator, he has done nothing for my State. As a State Rep., he was part of the Daley Machine. If he wins, this nation will find out all about corruption, Chicago style.

Kurtis 41….Charlie Gibson was civil with “poor, little Sarah”. Why is it, when anyone questions her, they are being sexist, mean or whatever. As far as I can see, she has been treated, by the media, no differently than anyone else running for office. She wanted to play with the “big boys” so she needs to toughen up. Also unscripted question and answer sessions would be nice so we can see how she can hold her own and what she actually knows. If she can’t even talk to the media on her own, how is she going to be President should something happen to McCain. In the meantime, if you want to hear what she has to say, go to one of the rallies, or the town hall meetings, or wait till the debate. She’s got important things to do today and all you crybabies care about is getting some attention.

It doesn’t really matter what anyone thinks..the Constitution guarantees freedom of the press. I, for one, am most certainly NOT going to vote for a candidate whose own campaign doesn’t trust her to talk candidly with the media. Apparently even her own campaign doesn’t think she has the experience, knowledge, intellect or information to speak to any important national or international subject. Palin may think subpoenas are merely suggestion; she may think she can choose when she follows the law, or not; but neither she nor McCain can rule the media. We don’t believe in royalty in this country.

All this hatred and saying that Palin is inexperienced and a moron… Abviously you didn’t hear the Comments that Biden made about the stock market crash in 1929 and the president went on TV…. There wasn’t TV then. and he even named the WRONG President. He named Roosevelt. and it was Hoover.
Biden has also said numerous this directly opposite to the “Obama” Platform… So really take a look and see just who has the most inexperienced or Dumb .. Running mate and tell me if Mr Obama has show good judgement in his choices.
I think NOT.

A one issue guy huh? Someone who wants to crimminalize a woman’s right to choose what she wants with her body. It is so funny – the majority of the media are desperately throwing everything they can at Palin in a panicked effort to portray her as less qualified than Obama – they have attacked her parenting abilities (but not Obama’s), her children (does Obama have kids?), her religious beliefs (Christian, like most Americans), her being from a small town (Obama is from the mean streets of Hawaii), her hobbies (does Obama have any?), her looks (making fun of her hoop earrings- sigh). But instead of crushing her, all this media attention has stolen the spotlight from the MIGHTY OBAMA! Everyone does not look at the fact that Obama is an elitist posing as a working class hero. He took lessons in “agitation”, for pete’s sake – how to get people stirred up and angry about their situations. Get everyone all riled up and they forget to ask Obama exactly how he proposes to do all these things he promises.

I find it very hypocritical that Palin blasted the media during her RNC speech and then is now trying to USE the media for photo ops when it is beneficial to her campaign. Can anyone say two-faced?

Posted by: Reality Check | September 23, 2008, 3:33 pm 3:33 pm

The McCains aren’t elitists at all. Just because they have 7 mansions and 13 cars and Cindy wears a $300,000 outfit to the RNC. Why, they’re just ordinary folks who like church suppers and go bowling every night. And gosh darn it, Sedona Arizona isn’t an elitist New Age community, it’s really just like any town. Any town of multi-millionaires.

“Someone who wants to crimminalize a woman’s right to choose what she wants with her body.” – Actually, the “crimminalization” [sic] is over a woman’s right to KILL HER UNBORN CHILD just because it is “inconvenient” to let it live at this time. I have always been confounded by those who are frantically in favor of preserving animal and plant life, but are equally (and paradoxically) against preserving the life of an unborn human being. Call it “Pro-Choice” if you wish, but it is actually “Pro-Killing” or “Anti-Life”.

Posted by: Rick | September 23, 2008, 3:36 pm 3:36 pm

**Someone who wants to crimminalize a woman’s right to choose what she wants with her body.**
Larry, if you’re an adult, you know that we have all kinds of laws about how people must treat their “own body”.
Aside from that being fact, it’s the unborn’s “body” that’s torn to shreds in any abortion. Not the womans “body”.

I wished he would talk more about his relations with Bill Ayers, Tony Rezko and the like. But, that is OK because the Media has made him out to be the messiah. If he gets asked a question he gets an attitude like how dare you ask me that question, how dare you question me, “Barack Obama”! How about the media will learn about Palin when they do their due dilegence and report anything about Obama other then their lovefest. Chris Mathews, the view MSNBC, NBC, ABC, CNN, PBC, CBS pathetic. Barack Obama’s economic plan is unsustainable… Taxing the upper 5% does not cover the $1 trillion planned spending in his plan.
His speeches sound wonderful and I cannot argue he’s an eloquent speaker, but his plan of overtaxing the top 5% to cover healthcare for the entire nation, is a Socialist plan that will eventually affect the middle and poor and will in turn increase unemployment.
If we are complaining about our current unemployment rate of 6.1%, here are the unemployment rates of a few Socialist nations in Europe:
UNEMPLOYMENT RATES:
France: 7.5%
Spain: 10.9%
Belgium: 8%
Itlay: 5.9 % (lowest they’ve seen in yrs)
The average unemployment rate throughout Europe is 8%
Let’s face it, those obove the 250,000 income level are the ones that take risks, make investments, and create jobs for you and me. By overtaxing them, the unemployment rates will significantly rise.
What good is a tax cut if you don’t have a job?
We have friends of ours that make about $260,000. They have a small business and said that if Obama wins this election, they will have to let 2 employees go and fire their personal trainers.
How is this going to help our economy? Let’s face it, people who are well off and even rich, spend a lot of $$ on “stupid things” that go right back into our economy… The very rich, will still continue to spend, but those like our friends, they are well off, but not rich… They will have to make some adjustments.
I feel overtaxing those who are successful to give to the poor… goes against our Democatic system and against the American Dream… We will all suffer in the end.
Middleclass Mom of 3

Rick–Why do you believe that Obama is an “elitist”? What is it about being a community organizer, civil rights attorney, pro-workers, and pro-middle class that makes someone an elitist? Any why does the fact that McCain owns so many cars and homes that he has lost count not qualify McCain as an elitist?

Posted by: Denver | September 23, 2008, 3:53 pm 3:53 pm

I do not believe the ‘Liberals’ understand the real threat against civilized nations in the world today… I must vote for a candidate I feel will keep my children safer.
I do not feel safe with a candidate (Obama) who makes comments like these: “Iran is a tiny nation that poses no threat to us”. Is Obama aware of Iran’s nuclear plans and how over and over again they have threatened to “wipe Israel off the face of this earth”?
Obama would like to shrink our military in these dangerous times and “convince” extremist radicals to disarm…
McCain / Palin is the better and safer ticket for our Nation and it’s children

Of course they don’t want the electorate to see just how clueless Palin is…..McCain dies, and we get an anti-woman troglodyte who thinks she can handle complex foreign policy because you can see Russia from Alaska. In case you hadn’t noticed, TV viewership is & has been in a tailspin. Eventually Advertisers take note of that kind of fact & their money flows elsewhere.
Heck, some MAJOR Advertisers are shifting considerable assetts towards conservative media today.
Although it’s just a trickle for now, once that dam breaks, the MSM & their News Nutwerks will suddenly be forced to “See the light” & quit pushing Lefty political hack propaganda onto the public.

I’m an Independent who will be voting for the McCain / Palin ticket.
The fact that Sarah Palin was disinvited from the rally against Iranian Pres, made me think… The Republicans have always seemed more willing to work in a bi-partisan manner, while the Democrats seem uncapable.
The Irananian threat is serious folks. No time for childish games. Hillary should have stood side by side with Sarah Palin as Americans supporting Israel. Gov. Palin was willing to do it, but Hillary decided to put politics ahead.. Not only did she refuse to attend, but pressured the organizers to “disinvite” Gov. Palin… Not very presidential like.
I’ve made my decision and even know a couple of Jews who will now be voting McCain.

Three Jewish Groups Protest Disinviting Sarah Palin
Klein called the decision “wrong-headed” and one which would hurt Israel and the United States. “Ahmadinejad must be delighted that those who oppose his policies are so divided they can’t even stand on the same stage to condemn him. I assure you, if we were holding a rally to condemn an internationally-known racist, anti-Black leader, no one would dare disinvite a speaker and no speaker would dare back out.”

I’m a little confused. Let me see if I have this straight…
If you : grow up in Hawaii , raised by your grandparents, you’re “exotic, different.”
If you: grow up in Alaska eating moose burgers, don’t believe in global warming…a quintessential American story.
If your name is Barack you’re a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.
Name your kids Willow, Trig and Track, you’re a maverick.
Graduate from Harvard law School and you are unstable.
Attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, you’re well grounded.
If you spend 3 years as a brilliant community organizer, become the first black
President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that
registers 150,000 new voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law
professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over
750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate’s Health and Human Services
committee, spend 4 years in the United States Senate representing a
state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign
Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran’s Affairs committees, you don’t
have any real leadership experience.
If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council and 6
years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, 20 months as
the governor of a state with only 650,000 people, then you’re qualified to
become the country’s second highest ranking executive.
If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising 2
beautiful daughters, all within Protestant churches, you’re not a real
Christian.
If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and left your
disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you’re a Christian.
If you teach responsible, age appropriate sex education, including the
proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.
If, while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no
other option in sex education in your state’s school system while your unwed teen
daughter ends up pregnant, you’re very responsible.
If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in a
prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city
community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family’s values don’t
represent America ‘s.
If your husband is nicknamed “First Dude”, with at least one DWI
conviction and no college education, who didn’t register to vote until age 25 and
once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA ,
your family is extremely admirable.
OK, much clearer now

After the pilloring the “unbiased” MSM gave Palin, there is NO benefit or advantage to letting Palin have MSM coverage.
In fact, as nasty as the attacks have been by the so called “unbiased press” it would actually be better for Palin if there’s NO press coverage. At least it won’t be as much crap as negative. Except for the MSM like ABC and MSNBC making up stuff. But they will do that anyway, they’ve already proved that.
My advice to McCain’s campaign is to keep out ANY press that has been disrespectful, and only give interviews to the ones that show they are truly unbiased.
Someone above said they have never seen anything like this.
Well, at 57, I’ve never seen anything like the total left bias the Media has shown this election cycle. And I’ve seen some nasty stuff, but NEVER as bad as this year.
And the Hollywood crowd has went totally over the edge. Palin has gotten the far left hysterical. And that’s EXACTLY why Mainstream America will support her.
Anyone that the far left moon howlers hate this much is just what we need as a leader.
It’s only 40 days, then we will see if what I say is true.
I am going to start a suicide assistance company and will make a “killing” when all the howlers completely flip out on Nov 5th.

Good Gawd People,
Let me break this down for ya.
If one asks another if they want a cookie and the other accepts taking the offered cookie then gets a knuckle busted, how many more cookies is the invited party going to take? Charley Gibson offered that cookie in front of the entire Nation and as such we saw Ms. Palin get a knuckle broken. Now multiply this by a factor of 10.
I agree with no more interviews for Palin or McCain. The debates are where the rubber meets this road. Based upon my perception of the true reality of Obama’s debate capabilities with Mrs. Clinton, in my humble opinion Mr. McCain will make Mr. Obama look like a freshmen running for President of a high school Student Council. Maybe Obama will surprise me and hope that he does but as a man who loves gambling, I wouldn’t put one dime on Mr. Obama in these debates unless I was afforded points of which Mr. Obama seems very adept at doing.
Thank God for Jim Lehrer. The only honest to goodness Journalist left who gives you the cookie offered with no strings attached.

Q: “Why is it that that Democrats seem to be the most bitter and angry group in America.”
A: 8 years of neocons trashing the Constitution after stealing 2 elections, running our economy into the ground with huge loans from China for a war we were lied into along with Phil Gramm led deregulation, degrading our national reputation in the world with torture, Gitmo, illegal wars, etc. No-bid Halliburton contracts, turning a huge Clinton era surplus into a record deficit which tanked the US Dollar. Alberto “amnesia” Gonzalez. Darth Cheney, perhaps the most unpopular and evil VP on record. Jobs shipped overseas. Extreme oil prices. Rampant cronyism and incompetence. A Republican Congress and President that kow tows to religious extremists both in Saudi Arabia and at home. “Heckuva job Brownie”. Everything Dubya touches turns to $hit. HERE’S THE REAL QUESTION… WHY AREN’T YOU PEOPLE ON THE RIGHT ANGRY??? YOU LIKE $700,000,000,000 BAILOUTS? YOU LIKE A BROKEN MILITARY? YOU LIKE SEEING YOUR COUNTRY DESPISED BY THE WORLD??? IF YOU WERE REAL CONSERVATIVES, YOU’D BE MORE ANGRY THAN THE LIBERALS.
“Be angry in silence because when you say it out loud the base will react” THE ONLY THING IT TAKES FOR EVIL MEN TO SUCCEED IS FOR GOOD MEN TO REMAIN SILENT.

I agree… Let’s forget the Left-winged, Nut, Looney media. I wouldn’t give them the time of day.

Agreed. I’m only here now, cause it’s (thankfuly) been a slow day.
Most of the time I try to ignore the MSM News Nutwerks & their pals the DNC spin cycle machine.
Besides, it’s much more fun to challenge these Moon-Bats in person with facts.

As a Canadian (who is a big fan of the U.S.), I am deeply disturbed to see that the U.S. media is allowing itself to be pushed around by the out-of-touch, “hockey Mom”, who greatest experience is in running a one-horse town in Alaska that none of us had ever heard of until 4 weeks ago. Please do yourselves and the world a favor…don’t accept this manipulation and abuse of your media rights. And for God’s sake don’t vote for this lightweight, holier-than-thou nitwit!

One thing i have noticed bout you Repubs is this, when the media is not spouting your racist views they are deemed Libreal, but when on every media outlet all you see is Palin/Mccain there is no mention of the libreal media get real we all know this so called media is run and own by conservatives like Rupert Murdoch. Stop your whinning and show Palin for what she really are not ready for primetime all you jerks are looking at is a pretty face but get this a pretty does not make one ready to be VP. if you ask me you are the ones being sexist using this poor woman like a pornstar and she dont even get.The GOP is like an all male club why else has it taken so long for them to pick a woman for such a high office. Why isn,t she out on her own campagining like Biden? Because you cant trust her to say and do the right thing without a leash. What you got to hid johnboy???

If we are complaining about our current unemployment rate of 6.1%, here are the unemployment rates of a few Socialist nations in Europe:
UNEMPLOYMENT RATES:
France: 7.5%
Spain: 10.9%
Belgium: 8%
Itlay: 5.9 % (lowest they’ve seen in yrs)
The average unemployment rate throughout Europe is 8%
Dennis, we have Canadian friends living in the U.S. that have commented our healthcare is far superior than Canada’s.
We’ll stick with what we have – Thanks!

We’ll be just fine here. Just like we always have been.

Posted by: Elaine | September 23, 2008, 4:48 pm 4:48 pm

In a recent interview, Obama stated the U.S. was the #1 nation in the world, yet he wants to instill healthcare programs and government control methods as in Europe.. I find that ironic and arrogant at the same time.

Tex,
I bet that you and your wingnut-cases will come back and say that your are “evangelicals”. Shameful. Really. Muzzling the press in the year 2008. That is the issue here.
We have an adulterer and an alledged abuser of power and that rallied the “evangelical” base?
Pharises !!!!!!!!

Mccain and palin have avoided any press conferences for about 40 days.
Hmmmm – they something to hid? What if Obama/Biden did this same avoidance? Come on get real america – Palin cant handle the questions – she cant even level w/Alaskans. IF PALIN/MCCAIN ARE ELECTED WE GET WHAT WE DESERVE. ECONOMIC/POLITICAL AND SOCIAL DECLINE.
YOU REPUBLICANS ARE GOING TO BE THE 1ST TO CRY TO; JUST LIKE TODAY WAAAA WE NEED 700 BILLION.

We should talk about troopergate, pastorgate and all gates with all freedom.
Mind you, this thread started because someone is afraid of the press.
So, on you wingnut chat rooms, talk about pastorgate. On our liberal chat room, we will talk about “teenage-pregnancy-gate” with no fear.
Fair isnt it? So, dont muzzle the press now, it might lead to the chat rooms later…..

Wow, I hadn’t realized how nasty the remarks from south of the border could be…right I forgot, W did set you Republicans up as the “dad” to the world. Sorry it’s not working so well for you. What a fantastic election. The media has tried it all. Attack the family, attack the gender, attack her experience, attack her personally, the silent treatment. And regardless of what they try, she just attracts bigger and bigger crowds. Now they want to be there to report after two weeks of silence?? Fantastic! Keep going, Sarah. McCain?Palin aren’t “afraid of the press”. They, like anyone else who has been treated so unfairly, have choosen not to participate in the fraud of the “press”.
At least this way, the “press” can’t mischarecterize things.
So be it.

Of course the media didn’t mind at all when Barack did not admit the media in either. Oh I forgot, he’s a Democrat. That explains it. I don’t blame Palin a bit for trying to not give Obama a free advertisement by allowing the MSM in. You people really shouldn’t even call yourselves journalists anymore. Maybe cheerleaders or advocates or even DNC or Obama campaign staff but not journalists. To all of you ahem, journalists who are fair and try to be subjective regardless of your leanings I apologize that you have to share in the punishment of failing newspapers and broadcast news organizations that is accelerated by the phenominal majority of hacks in your proffession. However, you have known this was and is happening for a long time and have been scared to stand up against your own so you must share in the penalty of loss of all credibility. Soon now, many more of you will also be shopping for fewer and fewer jobs in fewer and fewer organizations and it just won’t worry us because you didn’t bring us the news anyway. By the end, all you were bringing us was your opinions wrapped as news so good riddance to you all. But please don’t go away mad. Just go away.

McCain/Palin aren’t “muzzling” the “Press” either. They’re simply refusing to participate in any more Leftist driven MSM media fraud.
Soon enough, Palin will step forward to speak with the MSM again.
IF she’s treated with the respect & common decency ANY Governor & major party candidate should be, rather than continue to be mischarecterized & abused, she’ll likely attempt to become more open with the “Press”.
So, either the Leftist lunatics within the “press” will prevail, or, they take instructions from adults & move past this latest unfounded nonsense.

**Sounds like you’re one of those folks who thinks that Canada is smaller than the U.S. and that Toronto is a suburb of Montreal. Time for some education on world affairs!**
I’ve been everywhere in Canada.
Great fishing. Great French food in Montreal. Great hunting & skiing out West.
I like a lot about Canada.
Many years ago, while in school not far from Detroit, it was very common to have as much Canadian money in my pocket, as US currency.
But, I’m sure you’ve noticed, more than 80% of your population lives less than 100 miles of the US border. Most of the Canadian people I knew back then, would have loved to have been US or even joint citizens.
Now, we’ll continue to watch your back, I know you’ll do the same for us, just don’t bother involving yourself with our politics, & we’ll continue to do the same of yours. eh?

Tex, you’ve got a deal…if only you can convince your President to stop bothering with our politics or the politics of the world. It seems that your terrific country has enough to do to clean up the mess that it currently (and sadly) finds itself in. The idea of Sarah Palin unravelling your financial quagmire…or bringing a sensible end to your foray in Irag is truly frighening. She is not a stateman…or even an unlightened, knowledgable politico. And by the way, while we love America too, thanks Tex, we’re pretty happy living where we are.

Sarah is so special! Let’s not distract her while she takes her crash course on the world and our country… What a joke! Oh well we should all believe she is worldly once she has her picture taken with all the big world wigs right? Yeah that won’t help. Now add the fact the media has been restricted, once again, and I smell a fishy karabu.

Posted by: Lee | September 23, 2008, 6:41 pm 6:41 pm

As the lines blur between leftist crackpot media outlets and the legitimate main stream media, look what happens. The members of the media who object to this treatment do so because they get lumped in with the loons. Don’t the members hiding behind the legitimate, objective journalist tag know they can, with only a camera feed, still use the sound to belittle and ridicule Palin and still abandon any semblance of objective journalism all-the-while pleasing the left wing news coonsumers?

**Tex, you’ve got a deal…if only you can convince your President to stop bothering with our politics or the politics of the world.**
We barely bother your politics. And, regarding world geopolitics, surely you’re aware, the strong survive the weak do not.
With that true, no, we won’t stop bothering the politics of authoritarian despots, such as in Iran, or elsewhere.
Tyranny anywhere always threatens liberty everywhere. That’s sadly just how the world works.
**It seems that your terrific country has enough to do to clean up the mess that it currently (and sadly) finds itself in.**
We haven’t bitten off, or stumbled into, anything we can’t deal with ourselves, over time. Those that doubt that, should be very wary indeed.
**The idea of Sarah Palin unravelling your financial quagmire…or bringing a sensible end to your foray in Irag is truly frighening.**
I trust any true American Patriot, more than I do any self aggrandizing Left leaning political climber. And Governor Palin is a Patriot first & foremost.
**She is not a stateman…or even an unlightened, knowledgable politico.**
The average engaged American adult is much more aware of issues, simple & complex, in considerable depth, than those in much of the rest of the world. As a long time world traveler, I’ll attest to that as fact.
Also, Governor Palin will do fine & I’m confident she’ll make a dynamic VP, Or president, if opportunity, or need, be so.
**And by the way, while we love America too, thanks Tex, we’re pretty happy living where we are.**
Then things have changed considerably. Or, you’re not aware of how things truly are.
Whatever the case, rest assured, we will continue to endure, & overcome. Always.
Our Constitution gives us the tools to do so, despite whatever challenges we may face along the way.

It amazes me that the media just doesn’t get it. It is not surprising they are kept at a distance after the disrespect shown throughout this campaign. Come on, guys, this is the first time meeting of the various leaders. Who can focus and concentrate with all this activity going on. This is unfair. Besides who can blame them. My worst enemy does not deserve treatment that has been displayed by some in the media.
Disrespect to anyone is not accepted especially for a professional.

Posted by: JA | September 23, 2008, 10:38 pm 10:38 pm

When will the MSM put Obama under the same scrutiny it has Sarah Palin? When will it investigate the sweetheart loan for his home? When will it look into his political mentor, Pentagon-bomber William Ayers? When will it examine his 52 second video vowing to gut our military to Carter-era levels just as China is rising and nuclear weapons are falling into the hands of rogue nations? When will it scrutinize his vow to create a civilian “agency” just as well armed and funded as the US military? When will the MSM ever ask Obama about his pledge to invade Pakistan, a nuclear power, over the objections of its government? Better still, why is one of Obama’s key advisors Jim Johnson, the former CEO of Fannie Mae that knew a mortgage meltdown was coming and warned no one?
So many questions the MSM could be asking Obama. Instead, they attack Palin as a devil in human form. Palin, they don’t seem to know, is the BOTTOM of the GOP ticket. Obama is the TOP of the Dem ticket, so I care far more about the answers to the above questions than whether Sarah Palin hunts moose or pressured some official to fire her brother-in-law after he admitted using his state-issued tazer on his 11 year old stepson.
We’ll never get the answers to any real questions about Obama or his relations from the MSM because the MSM no longer reports news, they make it up.
Double-plus ungood, Winston.

John McCain looks older and more tired every day — I would like to have confidence that Sarah Palin is ready to take over if necessary, but if that happens she can’t just avoid the media and the public eye waiting for “deference.” Can you imagine the President of the United States refusing to hold a press conference because some reporter was “mean” to her family? Grow up, Sarah, this is not middle school… embarassing.

Please tell me, why someone who might maybe become an elected official is meeting with foreign dignitaries as a representation of our country? How did politics get this sleezy?!? How else would it be that someone would bring the governor of a state to meet international big wigs?!?
Outrage!

The media spent 10 years ripping Bill Clinton to shreds. They spent the whole primary season ripping Hillary to shreds. Now they are trying to rip Sarah Palin to shreds.
And yet, Barack Obama’s had a free ride for the past year. Would somebody look into this guy? Ah, no, that would be racism.
Sorry, when the media shows such partisanship they those lose credibility.
Their attacks didn’t increase my suspicion of the Clintons and aren’t increasing my suspicion of Sarah Palin. Their lack of vetting of Obama does enormously increase my suspicion of him, reason for which – for the first time in my life – I’m considering NOT voting Democrat.
Since the Clinton years I have grown to distrust the political figure the media doesn’t dare criticize.
Remember when Dubya could do no wrong and the only person willing to criticize him was Michael Moore?

Posted by: Jennifer | September 24, 2008, 1:41 am 1:41 am

Look, Sarah deserves a little privacy don’t you think. She is a working mom and a soon to be grandmother and she says she fired the cook from the governor’s mansion because she likes to cook for her family. That’s a lot of work, on top of her regular job of being governor and commander in chief of the Alaska National Guard.
All she wants is a little quiet time alone with the leaders of friendly foreign countries without being hounded to death by the leftist media shouting out irrelevant trick questions like, “Should the US pull out of the UN?” or Should the US abide by the Geneva Conventions?”, the answers to which they will just twist for their own twisted benefit.
You would want the same for yourself now wouldn’t you?

Posted by: USAR | September 24, 2008, 2:42 am 2:42 am

Why isn’t Sarah Palin talking to the media when there are only a few more weeks left until the Election.
What’s Ms. Palin (or McCain) scared of? She owes it to the American people to voice her opinions and thoughts on the important issues facing our country and world today.
Ms. Palin’s running for Vice President of the United States for Christ’s sakes not Vice President of the PTA.

I am horrified that this light weight might be representing the US before the world. What does she bring to the ticket? Certainly not wisdom. intelligence, knowledge, gravitas. Can anyone imagine her negotiating a treaty with Putin, the North Koreans? This woman is a sound bite. I am ashamed. Why are the Republicans dumbing down the Presidency? The world and our Country are a mess. We NEED serious people who have their head in the game. Not some bimbo who looks good to some and sounds better to others. Palin….GO HOME TO ALASKA, TAKE CARE OF YOUR KIDS. THEY NEED YOU. AMERICA DOES NOT…..

Considering how the media is spinning this election, I don’t blame McCain for this restriction. Major news organizations will just make up what they want to spoon feed the public anyway. It is up to us to decide just how much more we will eat!

Posted by: Tinman | September 24, 2008, 8:45 pm 8:45 pm

It’s crystal clear why Palin is not talking to the media. Same reason my dental hygeinist would keep her mouth shut if she were nominated for VP. Pure, unadulterated ignorance. Well, not that pure. It’s mixed with a healthy dose of right-wing televangelist nut-job-ism. The few times she has opened her mouth has only put a spotlight on her paper-thin understanding of any issue, written by speechwriters and faithfully regurgitated. Good thing Vice-presidents don’t have to be quick on their feet or have any understanding of the economy, international affairs, or energy. If they did have to know this stuff, we might be in trouble.

Sarah Palin is running for the vice presidency! Wake up, America! We have the constitutional RIGHT to know if she’s strong in foreign affairs, domeestic affairs, diplomacy, getting the U.S. back on its feet, and is strong and competent enough to replace senator McCain as president! There is no “what if” about her. She MUST be strong and competent and self-assured enough to stand in the shoes of president of the United States. She isn’t. She’s pretty, she’s got a great smile. Thts’s not going to cut it!Cutting back on media reporting on her debut with foreign diplomats is a sure sign she IS NOT capable to be our next vice president. How sad McCain chose her as his running mate………..
