Sarah Palin to Katie Couric — Let Me Get Back to You
Republican V.P. nominee Sarah Palin was interviewed the other day by CBS News anchor Katie Couric. Here is one exchange regarding John McCain’s record on regulation and Wall Street. Couric: You’ve said, quote, "John McCain will reform the way Wall Street does business." Other than supporting stricter regulations of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac two years ago, can you give us any more example of his leading the charge for more oversight?
Palin: I think that the example that you just cited, with his warnings two years ago about Fannie and Freddie – that, that’s paramount. That’s more than a heck of a lot of other senators and representatives did for us.
Couric: But he’s been in Congress for 26 years. He’s been chairman of the powerful Commerce Committee. And he has almost always sided with less regulation, not more.
Palin: He’s also known as the maverick though, taking shots from his own party, and certainly taking shots from the other party. Trying to get people to understand what he’s been talking about – the need to reform government.
Couric: But can you give me any other concrete examples? Because I know you’ve said Barack Obama is a lot of talk and no action. Can you give me any other examples in his 26 years of John McCain truly taking a stand on this?
Palin: I can give you examples of things that John McCain has done, that has shown his foresight, his pragmatism, and his leadership abilities. And that is what America needs today.
Couric: I’m just going to ask you one more time – not to belabor the point. Specific examples in his 26 years of pushing for more regulation.
Palin: I’ll try to find you some and I’ll bring them to you. Watch a clip from the interview.

This is why McCain is delaying the debate tomorrow and floating the idea through surrogates of using the VP slot instead. Sarah is not ready.

What a complete joke! No wonder the McCain camp is protecting her from the press, what with such in depth, hard hitting questions she has to face!

This whole McCain/ Palin thing is such a joke… if this was the otherway around OH MY… the GOP would be calling Obama a lair… a flip-flopper and everything else.
I am going to suspend my campaign.

Get over yourselves! Because she doesn’t have a silver tongue like Barkey?? She is genuine. We need McCain/Palin in 2008!!

Palin=worthless. That would be like me trying to being VP. haha.

PALIN IS A JOKE.
McCAIN MADE A HUGE MISTAKE.
NO WONDER HE’S HIDING HER.
McCAIN IS A COWARD WITH EXTREMELY POOR JUDGEMENT.
UNTRUSTWORTHY.

Fae. You obviously do not see things clearly. What are Mccain and Palin going to do for the American people?
Posted by: marie | September 25, 2008, 12:15 pm 12:15 pm
Does McCain really think we’re buying this campaign suspension? He and his VP need to debate the Democrats. Let’s hear what each candidate has to say. The country is hurting both domestically and abroad (remember the war). McCain has made a mockery of the office with his surprise tactics. He has not shown leadership, he’s only demonstrated that he does not have the temperament or judgment to be the President. Stop mocking the process and insulting our intelligence Senator McCain.

McCain was called back to Washington by Paulson the treasury secretary.
McCain puts politics first before this stupid campaign.
This whole campaign is a joke.
McCain wants to solve problems while Obama is worried about politics.

what a mess…what a screwed up mess….
Posted by: beck | September 25, 2008, 12:17 pm 12:17 pm
Jeff….are you kidding me? He has been in Washington for what 26 years. What has ne done to help. What has he done in the past 8 years…nada. If you do not see his actions as a political stunt then you are clueless.

Is this surprising to anyone? She’s had one month to learn a lot of topics, which she has not considered or thought of until this month. She may be a breath of fresh air to some, but clearly she is not ready today.

I tink McCain’s next big “ploy” will be to replace Palin. Who’s up?

No wonder he want’s to ditch the debates, this poor woman is going to be destroyed by Biden next week. I’m even starting to feel sorry for this little fundie moron.

Could we just end the election stuff now? McCain and Palin are a joke and our country already looks very silly and stupid to the rest of the world now that we’re bankrupt!
Posted by: Kath | September 25, 2008, 12:23 pm 12:23 pm
Hey, wasn’t that sexism? Couric should have just kept nodding her head to whatever Palin said. Instead, she made Palin look like a fool. How dare you, Couric? How dare you? So sexist! So disrespectful!

To Obama Supporters:
Same question was asked of Obama supporters. Name a specific accomplishment that Obama has done?
oh..oh. NONE!
At least Sarah did not put her foot in her mouth like Biden.
Posted by: Voter In America | September 25, 2008, 12:24 pm 12:24 pm
She could have started by mentioning Keating Five which was another scandal from deregulation and resultant risky behavior by savings and loans. There McCain was deregulation all the way, a line he has repeated numerous times.
Posted by: bhciapol | September 25, 2008, 12:24 pm 12:24 pm
She is most definitely a washington insider…. she talks in circles and never answers a question…. she is a true republican.
She has shown herself as Unable to take charge of anything.
McCain would have done himself a favor by choosing someone else… but he chose the puppy in lipstick instead… no way do I see strength or intelligence in her… she is nothing
Posted by: l | September 25, 2008, 12:25 pm 12:25 pm
gee guys maybe she could be more like Biden, lets see, President Roosevelt during the depression got on TV and explained it all to the American people!! wait a minute – oops wrong president and oh my gosh!!! no television in those days!!! honestly who sounds more stupid here!
Posted by: cindi | September 25, 2008, 12:26 pm 12:26 pm
Why McCain is shielding Palin from the media: Better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.
Posted by: Deep Release | September 25, 2008, 12:29 pm 12:29 pm
Finally, something good from Palin that McCain can use in the debate he is trying to avoid. He can pull Palin’s one-liner on tough questions:
“…um…let me get back to you…” or…
“…may I go to the bathroom…?
Posted by: shiny | September 25, 2008, 12:29 pm 12:29 pm
I said 2 weeks ago that Palin would flame out and wouldn’t make it to election day. The campaign would use a “family matters” excuse and they’d put someone else in. I originally thought Huckabee to keep the evangelical base enthusiastic, but with the way McCain’s campaign is heading south, it could take a gamble with Romney, since there was a lot of independent support for such a ticket. On the other hand, McCain’s team may just use the family excuse to keep Palin away from debates and appearances, but keep her on the ticket. The GOP loves to use the “trust us” approach to government. Trust, but not verify, because verifying means the terrorists and Marxists have won.

Maybe Katie should have asked her a question she’s more suited to answer, like, “What’s the difference between a pitbull and a hockey mom?”
Pathetic.
Posted by: Deep Release | September 25, 2008, 12:31 pm 12:31 pm
This is SO Palin…She cannot talk her way out of a paper bag.
She is clueless and now that all the glitz and glamor is wearing off we can all see why McCain chose her: she is a women.
Take head you Hillary supporters…is this the women you want in office? Hillary would have NEVER answered that way…

Deep…or maybe :
” Can you go through the 10 step process of gutting a moose?”
Posted by: mainegirl | September 25, 2008, 12:33 pm 12:33 pm
What scares me more than Palin is that Americans will vote for her because they “like her”. I could care less if I like my President or VP. I’m not inviting them over for a BBQ. I want them to be qualified and do a good job for the American people. I could care less if they are egotistical or aloof, or elists or whether they hunt or ski or whatever the heck food they like to eat. MY GOD PEOPLE! This is our country you are messing with.

OMG. If McCain gets elected, I will be on my knees every day praying that he stays healthy!
Posted by: William J. LePetomaine | September 25, 2008, 12:35 pm 12:35 pm
Fae…genuine about what, not knowing the simply policy of her campaign partner?
This is a VERY important election. We cannot vote on someone being genuine. We need someone who can talk policy…
Posted by: formerhillary | September 25, 2008, 12:35 pm 12:35 pm
Palin has no clue at all how they will run the country together with McCain.
I can’t wait to see the debate on Oct.2
if McCain will not cancel it at the last hour.
Posted by: FM | September 25, 2008, 12:37 pm 12:37 pm
Here is what is truly disturbing about this exchange: Given the deep financial crisis our nation is facing, Palin went into this interview totally unprepared! Did she think Couric was going to ask her about Moose hunting????? OF COURSE the focus would be on the economy! She could not even do enought homework to be familiar with McCain’s record!!!!! Truly pathetic and scary at the same time.
Posted by: William J. LePetomaine | September 25, 2008, 12:38 pm 12:38 pm
she struggles any time she is not giving a speech. we’re so easily manipulated. we may potentially have a vp who does not debate. this looks like the path mccain is following. cancel the first debate, postpone it to the vp date, then offer scheduling conflicts for the vp. we can only hope the press is brave enough to report on this attempt to subvert the democratic process.

I’m a former Hillary supporter as well. Initially skeptical of Obama, very turned off by his most ardent supporters, and liked McCain (or at least liked the illusion I had of him, which since has been destroyed – by him).
A key reason I like Hillary so much is how much she isn’t like Palin, and I’m not even talking about the issues. Just on capability and competence alone! Hillary knows her stuff, and isn’t easily cornered, cowed, or thrown off. She’s a real tough woman. Palin, supposedly a pit bull, can’t even go into detail on a question, she just repeats what she has already said, or bails out. First it was “we could play stump the candidate, but (proceeds to ignore question and re-hashes platitudes and talking points)”, now it’s “I’ll look for something and get back to you.” It appears that hockey PLAYERS are the tough ones, not their moms.
A vote for Palin is no consolation for the fact that Hillary isn’t on the ticket. I’m voting Obama/Biden, because McCain/Palin are clearly more of Bush, Monica Goodling, Harriet Miers, ideology-trumps-reality governance that has gotten us into this mess.
Posted by: Bill Bored | September 25, 2008, 12:44 pm 12:44 pm
Duh Duh Duh Duh Duh Duh, I’ll try to get back to you with something on that. This is an actual air head and Republicans are fawing all over her like she is Einestine.
Posted by: Ernest T Bass | September 25, 2008, 12:47 pm 12:47 pm
The interesting thing is she didn’t try to fake it. Which is different from what any career politician would do – either redirect the question or spin some other hot air. Sometimes I wonder if we’re so accustomed to the “model politican” that we implicitly accept that as the standard against which to judge other, despite complaints to the contrary.

Ask the same question of Joe Biden – What has Obama done in the last 4 years in the Senate – he would come up with nothing. How in the hell is Sarah Palin supposed to know every peace of legislation that John McCain has worked on in 26 years. Why don’t they ask intelligent questions that really matter – such as what are we going to do about energy, or Russia or something that will effect our lives. If Katie, the lowest rated news program in history, wants to talk history she should call Joe and let him rehash the point of FDR on TV while president in 1929.
Posted by: Tim | September 25, 2008, 1:46 pm 1:46 pm
Yea – she makes Joe Biden look like a real prize – suppose she knows who was preisident in 1929 – suppose she ask crippled people to stand up in from of a large crowd? Oh Yea – Joe is a real prize!!!!!!!
Posted by: Joe Biden | September 25, 2008, 1:51 pm 1:51 pm
OMG…I just cant believe her answers..If we Americans put her in the vp spot then we deserve everything we get..At least she is good looking
Posted by: guss | September 25, 2008, 4:53 pm 4:53 pm
What a shame. Sarah Palin is back.
UNfortunately most of the people seem to have forgotten what a bag of hot air that woman is. She offers only very simple answers to complicated questions. and thats putting it nicely.
She never goes deep into any subject, all she always says is america needs this, america needs that, he has done this bad , and she has done that bad… but how to solve the real problems… no answer from god old sarah…
Please, please dont vote for these Tea Party people, you may really regret it….
