Hank Williams Jr. Serenades McCain, Palin

ABC News’ Kate Snow and Imtiyaz Delawala report: Hank Williams Jr. sure knows how to get a crowd going. On a small stage in the middle of a sea of red t-shirts at the Richmond International Raceway in Virginia this afternoon, Williams stood a few feet from Republican vice presidential candidate Gov. Sarah Palin to sing the Star Spangled Banner.  But it was his next song that was a surefire hit in this conservative crowd. Watch the video. "The left wing liberal media … most American people don’t believe ‘em anyway you see," Williams intoned. The tune seemed to be entitled "The McCain-Palin tradition" and was sung to the tune of Williams’ song "Family tradition," a song with lyrics about drinking and smoking marijuana.  No lyrics for the new song were immediately available from the campaign. "They’re not gonna blink. They’re gonna fix this country cause they’re just like you and old hank," Williams sang of McCain and Palin. And later of Palin: "How can you be so smart and be such a good lookin’ dish?" The song compares Palin to a "momma bear in Idaho" protecting her cubs, ready to protect America. This morning at a rally in Virginia Beach, reporters thought they heard Williams sing: "They’re not gonna blink.  They don’t have terrorist friends to whom their careers are linked."  But the press corps was further away and could not hear the song clearly. Williams did not appear to say the word "terrorist" at the Richmond event.

Sen. Obama went to Kenya to support
Odinga.
Odinga is a very bad man.
Is Odinga just ‘a guy in the neighborhood’, too?

I take Springsteen over Hank William Jr any day.

What does Odinga have to do with the horrible U.S. economy?
“It’s the economy, stupid”

Always disappointing when talented children of talented people soil themselves in public. This video should definitely come under the category of guilt by association. One consolation: stuff like this shows just how scared the Republican base really are.

Remember back when Hank Williams Jr. was cool, and could still sing?

Posted by: SemperFi | October 13, 2008, 9:08 pm 9:08 pm

There is nothing wrong with the economy stupid.
Gas price goes up and goes down, stock market goes down and goes up like night and day.
U.S. Economy remained the best economy in the world even after 9/11. That’s why Obama wants to break it down so that it looks more like Kenya.

Oh, let’s just keep spreadin’ that wealth around. How can people even feel proud of that? Don’t pay fed. taxes at all, but will take a nice rebate check from others who do? Hey next time you go out for pizza with 10 of your friends and get the $100. check, look at the guy who makes the most money and tell him he’s going to pay $91 and you all will chip in for the $9 ….This will be a sorry country.

Hank is still cool. The liberal people in this country will be sorry if Obama gets elected because anyone should be able to see there is not enough money for these things. The democratic party controls congress and they have a lower rating than President Bush.None of the the networks will report this but Foxs news.

Mr. plumber all I want to do is spread the wealth around.
Let’s see, yep that’s what they did in Russia for how many years? All you saw on tv was long bread lines and no grocery’s.
Obama wants people to set on their door stoops, get a government check, spend it and that will help the economy. Well, it will help the beer and cigarette companies which I guess will help. Boy, what a good idea.

I say take it from the billionaires, they dont need all that cash. They just hoard it all. Spread it around to strengthen the economy. Im not saying give it out to everybody, but use it properly to build america again. If all those greedy billionaires with 10 billion gave up 9 they would still have a billion which is way more than they will ever need, and this country would be in the black. If they are patriotic they should be more than willing to give what they dont need. If they arent patriotic, then its due time they become it. I know Im a socialist or whatever so dont even bother posting a response. We need to change the way we are going, because capitalism alone is what got us where we are. Social Democracy is the answer.

Oh geeze…people are so easy to get rilled up. To be honest, I don’t care who leads this country – so long as they do it with logical thinking and not blind religous “advice” I agree that multi-billionares should DO something to aid the economy more. (after all, those same billionares took YOUR money because you allowed them too.) BTW, the Hank Williams some was hella tacky.

I hope that whoever wins this election, has the knowledge to put this nation back on top. Unfortunatly most of the voting public is voting blindly. I have watched these campaigns very closely and all I can say is “God help us All”.
You’ve got left wing nut jobs on one side and “same ole, same ole” on the other. Niether canidate truly reflects what I think most of this nation is feeling niether can either canidate relate to what we all want. I say Change for the sake of change is just as bad as doing nothing.

And yet when it really seemed the worse for everyone, they have drug their feet once again. But so quick to ” pass the buck “. Lets get our character morals, and some pride back into this country as one nation together.

MCSame and Palin. Both of these people are undereducated in my view. Thats why they rile up their base with racist rhetoric. That is what illiterate bubbas can understand. Bubba cant even see that a vote for this money hoarding
corrupt pair is a vote against his/her best interest. Look at Obama’s campaign there has been nothing like it ever in American Politics. And you folks need to stop faking like you think Obama hangs with terrorists. You know better. Dont be mad because a black man is smarter, more prepared and more honest than these two will ever be. Its because he is black and Bubba god bless him is not there yet. Even though Obama is the best option for Bubba aquiring the health care to get his kids rotten teeth fixed. Bubba the republicans and Mccain let your jobs leave the country as a deregulator. The companies left the country and gave your job to a Indian or China man and you still dont care you still drink the kool aid ” Country First” what a joke. I feel sorry for simple folk that fall for the BS. I like Bubba hes just not very smart, and he’s getting played to be a bigot disguised as a McSame Palin supporter. SaaaaD

president i dont think eany of the people of the united states is ever going to see the US as it was to much damage
has been done by the REPUBLICANS (no president in office can fix the damage not in 4 years not in 8) i dont know if it can ever be.(THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ALREADY KNOW THIS. THAT IS WHY NOBODY WANTED TO RUN FOR PRESIDENT .

Victor:
I am NOT a Bubba, nor am I a Racist. I would support Colin Powell in a minute. Unfortunately I don’t have that choice.
Your lack of tolerance towards those who don’t agree with you is typical of the days when Bush said “you are either with me or against me”. The Patriotism of those who disagreed with him was always questioned, thanks to people like Toby Keith. Now there is a BUBBA~!
Here you are supporting the new favorite of the media….just like they want you to. Do you think propaganda only exists in 3rd world countries? Its been going on here in the good ole USA for years.
Your guy has an ad on TV that says to STAND UP to the Insurance Companies… then he folded to them by supporting the Wall Street Bailout with all that bill’s shiny add-ons.
I hope you live long enough to see the problems we’ll be having once you and your fellow Barack supporters place a Democratic President with a Democratic controlled Congress. The last two years has been a downhill slide, and you think it’s going to get better? May God help us all.

So? – Hank Williams, Jr. is nothing more than a washed-up ignorant with probably nothing more than a 10th grade education. All he is doing is appealing to the other uneducated rednecks who are responsible for electing the Bush-Cheney Regime we are suffering under today! That brings to mind the old saying, “Think education is expensive? – Try ignorance!”

Posted by: Robert | October 14, 2008, 8:58 pm 8:58 pm

Peach, too many questions for people mainly looking for a free lunch. The main thing on their collective mind (pun intended) is “when’s lunch?” Don’t expect people who are products of our public education faculty (which encourages mediocrity and praises Marxists)to understand the importance of your questions.

Posted by: baldrad | October 14, 2008, 9:17 pm 9:17 pm

Robert, that old saying is profound. That kind of ignorance is exhibited in the traditional, tedious, and boring HATE THE RICH line bought hook, line and sinker by the gullible, when offered by (change?–hilarious!)Obama et al.
Check out the economies where redistributionists got their way (current example–Zimbabwe) and see where it leads.

Just a few comments on what I’ve read.
1. Hank Williams Jr. Great entertainer. If he wants to support McCain-Palin; let him. Great song. Has some truth to it.
2. Barack Obama. If you want socialism go ahead and vote for him. If you want higher taxes go ahead and vote for him. If you think the economy is bad now, wait until Obama gets in.
3. Its not my place to tell you who to vote for. Just be sure you vote. McCain is not my first choice but I think its way better than Obama. McCain’s saving grace is Sarah Palin. She may well be our first woman president in the future? Who knows.

so its ok for hasbeen rock and rollers to sing for nobama but a country star who has been around longer and had more albums and hits than half those loony rockers singing for a veteren is being ignorant.i would take hank over anyone who can only badmouth this great country anyday.listen to haward sterns interveiws with people who are voteing for nobama and see who is stupid they dont even know who his running mate is nor what his stand on anything is.

I got tickled reading this about Hank Jr.This is a man who wanted to distant himself from his fathers name then every song he makes has his daddys name in it. This is a man with real family values. .His actions outshine his words.

Posted by: Beak | October 15, 2008, 8:29 am 8:29 am

When we elect a President, he will take office pushing buttons left and right, his word will be the final say. The President will change things over night. WRONG…The next President had better be a good salesman in order to sway the goverment this way and that way working the voters in order to away the goverment…No mater who becomes our next President…He has a hard job ahead of him…And it needs to be someone who knows goverment. He had better surround himself with the best minds of our time.

Isn’t it funny that the only people Republicans can get to support them are washed up country artists still belting out tunes from their 1980′s heyday? Hank Williams Jr. is ridiculous. This is a man who once belted out “If the South Would’ve Won We’d Have Had it Made.” That goes to show you where his sensibilities lie. The republicans certainly know who their base is, don’t they? Witless, ignorant hillbillies. And I can say this without hesitation because I come from a state where Hank Jr. is almost like Jesus Christ.

Posted by: Stacy | October 15, 2008, 9:49 am 9:49 am

You fools need to research McCain’s history before you consider him the solution.
If his grandfather wasn’t an admiral in the Navy, McCain couldn’t have pulled all the strings to advance his career. Between his grandfather and his father, he used nepotism to facilitate his ambition.
From hiring lobbyists to run his campaign to his record of changing positions, you can tell that McCain is only interested in getting elected, not helping this country.
I want a president who can at least use the internet…this IS the 21st century after all. McCain should have retired LONG ago.

I served my country in war, I can not say i was for the war but i went and served. I belive everyone should vote, and vote your heart. i think voting for none of the above would be a great way to send a message to our law makers that we as a country are fed up with the miss-use of our hard earned money.

You folks crying “socialism” and “wealth redistribution” are simply being manipulated by McSame/Playin (playin YOU!). A decent progressive tax code is the hallmark of a just society- Teddy Roosevelt, the man who introduced the progressive income tax. The strength of America has always been in the middle class- not in the top-earners / investor class. The Yeoman Farmer laws, fair wage laws, the GI Bill (there are other examples I can’t recall off the top of my head) – all examples of American success. Every time the government *invests* (Obama is not talking about give-aways, he’s talking investment in our future) in the middle class, there is a groundswell of wealth creation that makes our country strong- the strongest nation on earth. We’ve had about 25 years of “supply-side” and “trickle-down” economics and it DOESN’T WORK- the proof is in, even Greenspan admitted it. Those regulations were needed. What is also needed is another investment in the middle class, and that’s what Barack Obama is going to do. You fools are too stupid to even realize he wants to help you, and the Republicans have been ripping you off for years and laughing all the way to the bank- until they screwed the banks up, too. Remember, Republicans have controlled the Congress for 8 of the past 10 years, and Democrats enjoyed only marginal control (by 1 seat in the Senate of you count independents as Democrats) for the last 2 years with a completely combative President. People who blame the economic crisis on Democrats are just lunatics grasping at straws- too stupid to even properly evaluate how public policy affects them. GO OBAMA!!!

2 things..
The Republicans have been spreading wealth around for years – except it only gets spread to the rich. Case in point – $700B to Wall Street. That’s a lot of wealth to spread around. Who says Republicans don’t like welfare? They love it – as long as they are the recipients.
There is already a Socialist candidate for President. His name is: Brian Moore
Check him out at:

Let someone explain to me why future President Obama is always being refered to as a black man. His mother was white and father black. I think he should be considered as either. I know he considers himself black. One question to anyone out there with a snide remark, has you researched your back ground and found out that it is all pearly white. Well. one more then, I come from a “WHITE” family that was against any one that was not like them. I’m glad to say I’m the outcast in my family and proud of it.
