I’m voting Obama (mainly due to Palin), but I do wish he would clarify for everyone what his relationship was with Ayers. Clearly when you work with someone on a charity (funded by a good friend of Reagan, who had no trouble giving Ayers 50mill) you are more than simply acquantainces. Fact is Ayers was Chicago’s citizen of the year in 97, so many many Americans didnt have a problem with him. It’s a legitimate issue to bring up, but it certainly wont eclipse the economy and the polling deficit. In my opinion its a negative but not a real big one. AND Obama hasnt had contact with him other than on the street since joining the Senate, and noone has proven that in the 2 years he’s been running for Prez. Hannity complained how long this election cycle has been yet acts as if noone has vetted Obama. Nope. That was it. That was CNN’s ‘fact check.’ It simply repeated the conclusions of pro-Obama publications, and then concluded that the accusation is false.
Another point of significance: no one’s saying the two are close now. That’s not the point. It’s nice of CNN to try to spin this thing for all it’s worth, but the accusation is that the two had a professional relationship in the 1990s. That Obama served on the board of an education organization founded by Ayers, that the two attended meetings together, that Obama endorsed a book Ayers wrote about education, and that Ayers held a private fundraiser for Obama when the latter launched his political career.

Those making $250k in this country gave 35% of their money to the federal government in income and a certain percentage in state income, as well as sales tax, property tax, etc. Many other people have no job, or a job that pays them less money. Shouldn’t those making $250k be forced to pay an even higher percentage of their salary to bring up the “salary” of those who make less or nothing at all? Isn’t it more “fair” if everyone makes the same?

1. Obama only intends to RESTORE taxes to the levels they were at under President Ronald Reagan.
2. If you can come up with some way to pay down the deficit that DOES NOT involve restoring a higher tax rate (from its currently artificially low rate, as set by Pres. Bush), I’m sure we’d all love to hear it.
3. McCain is all about cutting taxes, but he never says how he’s going to pay down the deficit. I’m sorry, cutting “earmarks” is just not going to solve the problem. Maybe if McCain actually had a proposal he’d be running a more competitive campaign. As it is, his proposal consists of reducing federal revenue, which will only inflate the current deficit even more – a recipe for disaster.
4. If you don’t like the tax rate, move to Bermuda. :-) I hear their rates are exceptionally low, many American corporations already have their headquarters there, and the weather is fine.
The rest of us Americans want to put our financial house in order, a first step involves paying down the federal debt, and that means raising taxes.

McCain is so fake even his own side starting to raise their voices:

I’ll keep that info in mind the next time someone like SmallBiz tries to pass off some more voodoo economics.
For my part, I try to point out to Republicans that Obama is not so much intent on “raising taxes” as he is about restoring taxes more or less to the same rates that applied under their favorite President Ronald Reagan, the original “Tax-cutter & Spender”.

As to the associations of these candidates, McCaine’s involvement in the keating five probe is much worst than sitting on a board with someone who did something dispicable when you were eight years old. Based on what is going on in the economy with banks, the Keating debacle shows that mcCaine has terrible judgement and laxed knowledge. He is always involved in things that work against the economic well being of the country. Another important area is his call for the privitization of social security. What would happen if all of the people security(retirement savings accounts) was presently tied up in wall street?
I will continue to repeat that McCaine is incompetent and has ridden an incident that was the result of that incompetence to the threshold of the presidency. But it seems that the american people like presidents that are not the top of their class.
So much for telling kids to strive for good grades when the Republicans always want the country to elect incompetent, bumbling C students.

Obama and Ayers on Walter Annenberg’s charity board. Ronald Reagan appointed Annenberg as an ambassador. So by association as configured by Repubs, Annenberg and Reagan are terrorist sympathizers.

Just to provide a little personal insight regarding Indonesia. I am in Jakarta, Indonesia right now. I’ve been coming here for over five years. It’s true that there have been clashes between Muslims and Christians in parts of Indonesia, though in my view, Jakarta is more tolerant. Although some 9% of Indonesians are Christian, I suspect that the percentage is much higher here in Jakarta. I am Christian, and recognizably American. Yet, during all the visits I have made to this country, not once has anyone shown anything other than kindness and respect to me. It has not been unusual for me to walk down the street and have children look up and say, “Hi Mister,” with wide smiles on their faces. These are good, caring people. I don’t look at them and see Muslims or Christians; I see human beings who have dignity and deserve respect. I’m not saying that there are no radical Muslims. But the same can be said for Christians. As is the case in life, if you are persistent you will always find that for which you look.

Concerned Americans, Palin is a true American. She believes in the right to bear arms, freedom of religion, and lower taxes. Not like Obama who stands for Marxism which goes against the very individualist fiber of America. Obama who says we are clinging to our bibles and our guns and should pay more taxes and our business should pay more taxes for us. Just wondering who really needs to care so much about what Senator Obama did in the past. Or what Senator McCain did in the past. Absolutely, each person’s past contributes to who they are. But it’s often the very errors we make when we are young that make us better, stronger people as we get older. But that’s our own choice. It’s what we do with what we’ve learned that shapes who we are. If it’s all about judgment, look at the person today, then decide. I don’t care about Senator Obama’s or Senator McCain’s past. In truth, in today’s world I can search for, find, and read whatever I want, and believe anything I choose to believe, then document as many reasons as I need to justify that belief, molding them to meet my own desires. And I can keep doing that again and again, reinforcing my own belief, often blind to my own prejudices. That’s what many people have done, including myself. Just look around at what is happening today before your eyes.
And so, now I choose to examine who these candidates are today, right now. And I especially look at how they respond under pressure, how they think, and how they communicate. Most importantly for me is, do they have a positive outlook? Do they think positively? Act positively? It was Abraham Lincoln who once said that people are just about as happy as they make up their minds’ to be. It’s not the circumstances of our lives that make us happy, it is our own choice to be happy, even in the most dire of circumstances. With a positive philosophy we can shape our own lives for the better, rather than being aroused and engulfed by negativity. You can believe what I say, or not. Some people will, some won’t. After all, it’s your choice.

Certainly no person is perfect but I cannot remember a time when a politician EVER associated in ANY way with a DOMESTIC terrorist. Overseas, we’re fighting two wars, an increasingly belligerent Iran, a resurgent Russia eager to reassert it’s influence on the former soviet bloc (and now Venezuela), Ukraine destabilized, China rising, and North Korea unresolved, our alliances strained due to our unilateralism..the global tectonic plates are shifting…and here we have John McCain playing these dirty totally irrelevant political games, blatantly repeating lies, inciting hate in the electorate, destabilizing the markets with his political maneuvers, appointing an extremist running mate who knows NOTHING about the economy and the world a 72-year old heartbeat away from presidency, and dividing the country along choices (guns, race, abortion, religion, left-right) that are totally irrelevant to this new and very threatening environment, and having absolutely no solid plans to get us out of it. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! I cannot believe that John McCain is STILL not interested in challenging Obama’s plans, and presenting to the American public why his plans are PRACTICALLY superior or relevant to the current environment, or how they are actually DOABLE. He has not explained ow his approach is a significantly different approach to the failures of the last 8 years. His healthcare plan is a farce, taxing my health benefits to give me a healthcare tax credit which will not buy me even a bare bones healthcare plan, his tax plan is unsustainable and rewards those who don’t need it, he has absolutely no solid ideas for our recovery plans, he has offered no answers on how he is going to pay for the buyout of these bad loans, is spending freeze of 18 billion will not even come close to paying for his tax cuts AND his $300 billion ideas to pay for his home owner bailout ‘plan’, and absolutely no transition plan for when he assumes power so he can get to work on day one (he felt winning the election was more important than planning ahead), and shows the underlying influence of special interests in his policy making and his past judgement, and his foreign policy positions have been PROVEN wrong consistently, with his war mongering rhetoric getting increasingly aggressive…and NOW THIS???!!! YOU CAN HIRE EXPERIENCE, AND YOU CAN BUY KNOWLEDGE, BUT IF YOUR MORAL COMPASS IS MISALIGNED YOUR EXPERIENCE IS OF NO USE TO US. Stop telling us you can do it John McCain, TELL US HOW YOU ARE GOING TO DO IT. It infuriates me the absurdity that this once great man has stooped to. Is he THIS out of touch with reality? We need a serious president, with a steady and even temperament, who is willing to listen to EVERYONE and come up with solutions that work for ALL OF US. We need a president who has the intellect, and the moral compass pointing true north to our interests, who helps the nation focus on what we have in common, not why we are different…we need a president who understands that issues should lie at the foundation of political attacks, not baseless associations focused on dominating the next news cycle. We need someone whose inner circle of influence is not tainted by special interests and lobbists, who has the highest probability of reforming Washington. We need someone who understands the new world order, and who understands that war is but ONE tactic, along with intelligence, diplomatic and economic leverage in our overall strategy to counter our foreign policy challenges today. We need a president who is a calming voice in this cacophony of chaos, who calls out to the best within all of us to lead us out of this hole we’ve dug ourselves into, not divide us and calls on our hate. We need a President who is a pragmatist, who has been consistent, with judgment that is guided by good nature rather than a thirst for power. We need someone with new ideas, and a new approach to change our course in history. ENOUGH WITH THIS PETTY HATE MONGERING, THE TIMES ARE TOO SERIOUS FOR THIS KIND OF NONSENSE. I DON’T CARE IF HE IS BLACK, BLUE OR PURPLE, AND I DONT CARE IF HE IS PRO OR ANTI ABORTION, OR LIBERAL OR CONSERVATIVE…I JUST CARE THAT HE IS RIGHT FOR THE CHALLENGES WE NOW FACE. The dirty voter suppression and caging efforts of 2004 and 2000 are very much underway and already making huge impacts across all the swing states, we are now facing the possibility of THOUSANDS of obama voters getting turned away on election day, and the campaigning is only going to get more hateful. Do not believe the polls. Obama may be ahead, but they could steal it again unless we SHOW UP IN FORCE AND GET OUR PAPERWORK STRAIGHT. We cannot let them steal it again.

Let me make sure I understand
The economy is well into the danger zone
We are fighting in Iraq and Afganastan
Schools, already struggling in many areas will now face budget cuts
There are children going to bed hungry every night in this country
Many elderly on fixed incomes are seeing a source of income crashing down
Not to mention subjects such as the environment, health care, etc.
And Senator McCain is trying to get elected on inuindo, falsehoods, namecalling, and just plain meanness.
Is this the kind of man he thinks we want running the country? Is this really how he wants to be elected?
Anybody remember the line from “The American President”….”they are making this up as they go along.”
I see know discussion of issues, no connection with what the American people want and are worried about…I see playground mentality of calling names and playing games.

Digging up dirt is what politicians do so well as we have all seen in the past and now in the present. The Bill Ayers topic is just one more thing to create diversion off of the subject that really need our attention. I was a Pacifist during the Viet Nam War, but I was a teenager and young adult in college. SDS came to our campus, a small all girls college in NH., and I listened, but I did not partake. I do not find violence an answer to anything. Not even the toxic, verbal violence as I read on many blogs! Yes, Ayers got off on technicalities of improper wire tapping and other stuff, but it was a long time ago. Forgive and let go does not mean to forget, but what is the point of beating a dead horse (as the saying goes)? Huh? Let’s focus on what is important and going on right now! The market has not bottomed out yet. Banks are now going under world wide. Out of control greed has swelled the housing and financial markets for too many years. Now it is all collapsing. We need answers from our two candidates! Not more party rhetoric. Not more avoidance of the issues. Not more lies and distortions. Not more smear campaigns. What are these two men going to do to really help us? What are they going to do about Global Warming? What are they going to do to help our schools? How are they going to stop the out of control deficit spending? How are they going to ‘clean house’ and deal with those in our Congress and Senate who are not doing anything productive nor positive for us and our country? How about those executives at AIM? Did you all hear about those greedy big wigs getting bailout approval and then taking their sales staff of an elaborate vacation to some resort on OUR tax dollars? What are they going to do about that? Come on people! We are all Americans – not just Republican or Democrats, conservatives or liberals – we are the PEOPLE! Have you taken the time to read the Constitution and the Bill of Rights lately? We need a President who knows what those documents say and what they mean! Those documents are the foundation for our freedoms! They need to be fully understood and totally honored by all who lead us no if’s, and’s or but’s about it! We have not had true allegiance to those documents that for almost eight years. That is what all of us should be demanding of those we elect into office. And if they cannot or refuse to do that we should eject them from office by whatever legal means available to us as the citizens of this great country. Government of the people, by the people and for the people are words our forefathers gave their lives for to give us the freedoms we have today. Come on! This back stabbing, slandering, smear campaign election techniques are so high school and petty. I am sick of it – aren’t you?

This is the first time I have written a comment. But i abhor what the Republicans are doing to deface Obama and twist the facts, citing a part of quotations but dropping the rest of it, thus presenting lies.
It is distressing to see how vicious and dishonest McCain/Palin are being. Now think about it, if they show their dark colors in this campaign, how will their mode of operation work with our country and the world. I bet that after all this dishonesty and avoidance of the issues/details he is well practiced to do this in the future to us and the world. He does not have the wisdom and temperament for any high office, and the presidency.
Some questions:
1. Can the behavior, qualities and beliefs of McCain be what our country/world needs and can survive? We need honest straightforward leadership. Not McCain’s negative brand of thinking and attack methods. (Imagine how his behavior would go over with our people, and other countries! Would anyone trust him?)
2. Yes, in his youth he was a war hero. We do not know how he behaved before his capture. And, what says his experience indicates he is presidential material. Does that mean that all of our military heros are also qualified for the presidency? I think the his horrible experience could also warp his mind the set him up for resentment and retaliation of a negative sort.
3. McC/Palin pride themselves at being mavericks. The term maverick can be a fearful and negative quality to a person. Dictionary:maverick-an independent individual who refuses to conform with his group. McCain takes pride in being a maverick. What does this really mean? It sounds to me that he is capable of being stubborn and turn from truth and wise counsel to maintain his maverick trait. Now think, can a self-interested maverick repair and strengthen our country and relationships abroad? I don’t think so.
4. At his age, McCain is a risk of a weak person. Will he stay in good health? Will his mind weaken? And a big concern, should he fail to do the job, could you survive an inexperienced, vicious, truth twisting leader like Palin? WITH AGE I doubt that McCain could do a second term…thus requiring a new president.
I believe that we need a strong leader who can serve 2 terms to provide continuity for our progress and healing of the problems of the nation.
I HAVE MORE CONCERNS, BUT WILL END WITH THIS:
OBAMA IS THE LEADER WE NEED, NOW AND FOR THE NEXT 8 YEARS! I BELIEVE IN HIM AND HAVE FAITH THAT OUR COUNTRY WILL SEE BETTER YEARS WITH OBAMA/BIDEN IN THE LEADERSHIP!!!

Obama sowing socialist seeds in young people
“We, as parents, are well aware of the importance of our teachers who teach and program our children. We also know how important it is for our children to play with good-thinking children growing up.
Sen. Barack Obama has grown up with the teaching of very angry, militant white and black people: the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Louis Farrakhan, William Ayers and Rev. Michael Pfleger. We cannot say we are not affected by teachers who are militant and angry. We know too well that we become like them, and Mr. Obama will run this country in their mindset.
The Democratic Party, in its quest for power, has managed a propaganda campaign with subliminal messages, creating a God-like figure in a man who falls short in every way. It seems to me that if Mr. Obama wins the presidential election, then Messrs. Farrakhan, Wright, Ayers and Pfleger will gain power for their need to demoralize this country and help create a socialist America.
The Democrats have targeted young people, knowing how easy it is to bring forth whatever is needed to program their minds. I know this process well. I was caught up in the hysteria during the Vietnam era, which was brought about through Marxist propaganda underlying the so-called peace movement. The radicals of that era were successful in giving the communists power to bring forth the killing fields and slaughter 2.5 million people in Cambodia and South Vietnam. Did they stop the war, or did they bring the war to those innocent people? In the end, they turned their backs on all the horror and suffering they helped create and walked away.
Those same leaders who were in the streets in the ’60s are very powerful today in their work to bring down the Iraq war and to attack our president, and they have found their way into our schools. William Ayers is a good example of that.
Thank God, today, we have a strong generation of young soldiers who know exactly who they are and what they must do to protect our freedom and our democracy. And we have the leadership of Gen. David Petraeus, who has brought hope and stability to Iraq and prevented the terrorists from establishing a base in that country. Our soldiers are lifting us to an example of patriotism at a time when we’ve almost forgotten who we are and what is at stake.
If Mr. Obama had his way, he would have pulled our troops from Iraq years ago and initiated an unprecedented bloodbath, turning over that country to the barbarianism of our enemies. With what he has openly stated about his plans for our military, and his lack of understanding about the true nature of our enemies, there’s not a cell in my body that can accept the idea that Mr. Obama can keep us safe from the terrorists around the world, and from Iran, which is making great strides toward getting the atomic bomb. And while a misleading portrait of Mr. Obama is being perpetrated by a media controlled by the Democrats, the Obama camp has sent out people to attack the greatness of Sen. John McCain, whose suffering and courage in a Hanoi prison camp is an American legend.
Gen. Wesley Clark, who himself has shame upon him, having been relieved of his command, has done their bidding and become a lying fool in his need to demean a fellow soldier and a true hero.
This is a perilous time, and more than ever, the world needs a united and strong America. If, God forbid, we live to see Mr. Obama president, we will live through a socialist era that America has not seen before, and our country will be weakened in every way.”

If we are going to assume that what our pastors or priests do reflects our beliefs and the way we conduct our lives then that would make me a pedophile and a child molester. When 300 million catholics walk out of their churches for the disgraceful way their priests, bishops, cardinals and yes, the Pope condoned and covered up these atrocities and allowed them to continue for generations, then we can talk about why someone would not walk out of their church because a pastor occasionally said something controversial.
